On the darkest of dark nights, down the rolling, phthalo green hills of Hogwarts, at the extreme back of the barnyard, in what used to be an old winged horse stall with no door and is now a converted fireplace..... lies one very shiny, very large egg-like object.
The object seems to be giving off an incredible amount of heat and occasionally quivers to and fro as the flames lick the sides of the cauldron it sits in. What is it, you wonder? You seem to be half-hypnotized by the shady, crackling, almost bubbling object; you hardly even notice the absence of the hay bales where you usually sit. In fact, there doesn't seem to be ANYWHERE to sit.
So you stand, shifting awkwardly from foot to foot, and waiting for more directions from Professor Williamson, who IS sitting, on a little metal stool, his back to the arriving class.

Lily finished up her drawing before the professor returned with his pails of who knows what. Patiently, she waited for the class to begin since, well, that's what they were here for. She occasionally would look from the cauldron over towards the other professors that showed up in the barn with them.
Ah... Now the class was starting... Magizoologists??... What did they do?.. Lily had no idea but her attention was soon off of that and onto the next thing that involved eggs of various size. And then they had to guess what he had made them draw? The second year had no real experience with magical eggs to know what was magical creatures came from eggs. Her only other option was to guess, so guess she did as she put her hand up to answer. "Could it be a Phoenix egg?" She really wasn't sure what it could be but it had just been in fire so who knew...

Leaning forward a little to get a better look at what was in the cauldron, she moved back to clinging to the barn wall as William reappeared. What was that red stuff...?
Nevermind that.
After a quick whispered conversation, Medea nodded and smiled, looking around for the...aw! There it was. Almost easy to miss, considering what else could steal one's attention in here. Glancing towards Callie, she quietly moved around a few of the students towards the corner of the barn, where the refreshments sat on a small table.
Glancing between the two, she picked up the stack of cups and started pouring some of the dragon fruit tea into them while listening to the lesson going on. Might have some herself later on. It looked gooooood. Smelled even better as well. Picking up a few cups at a time, Medea moved around, handing them out to those who wanted it.
Really, who didn't want this tea? Dragon fruit tea!
Flames flickered in William's eyes as his deep, penetrating gaze reflected the fire before him. Students entered, talked at him, talked at each other, tried to sit on air, and gaped at the egg, but after about five long, awkward minutes of zero professor direction, the man leading this class snapped out of his stupor and stood up so suddenly from his stool that he nearly knocked the thing over.
Righting the stool, and blinking at the sudden appearance of students, Williamson cleared his throat and then moved his stool out, somewhat shooing them back from the converted fireplace.
"Hello, hello, hello," he randomly nodded around at the kids, not greeting anyone in particular. Of course they were ALL welcome in his classroom, so long as they took care of the creatures. And each other. Maybe.
"First things first, I'm going to need everybody to take a few BIG steps backward, that's right, and then a few more. There. Good." William chased them away from his fireplace in a nice, calm manner, until the students who had entered last nearly had their backs against the wall with the barn door. Now that they were not in any danger of catching fire, he motioned for them all to sit down.
Hmm. Where were those benches he'd meant to bring in? Ah, no matter. Must've just slipped his mind. "You all can take a seat on the floor, my apologies for, er, the lack of more comfortable seating, but I have a feeling we won't be here long. So. Thanks for coming."
He smiled and rubbed his hands, glancing over his shoulder just once more at his precious project in progress.
"While we wait for the start of the..... event that I invited you to, I would like everyone to begin by sketching what they see before them. You brought paper and pencils, right? And fireproof footwear and stuff?" Willy shot the older students looks. He was going to blame the older ones for not reminding the younguns if anyone was unprepared and got hurt as a result. Fingers crossed though, nothing would go wrong today. Right?!
He cleared his throat and his mind of such thoughts. "So yes, that's your first task of this class. Draw the ah... well I'll tell you it's an egg, but I won't tell you what KIND of egg, draw the egg in the cauldron and the fire and such as you see it. I realize it's rather dark in here, so you may use your wands as a sort of drawing light, but give me your best sketch." The professor beamed at them all happily. "All righty then? While you work on that, I just have one more thing to prepare for today's lesson."
Williamson nodded at the older students once again, sort of giving them a nonverbal cue to keep the younger kids on task, and then disappeared around the corner of the barn. Two metal buckets were just visible in his hands before the darkness swallowed his tall frame.[/color]
OOC: WHEW, lengthy post there! Sorry for not replying to you all directly, but I will reply to your drawing posts! Sketch the scene you see here as I've described it, either by hand (in real life), in Photoshop, or in Paint. The more creative you are on your own, the more points you'll get! No credit will be given to photos taken straight off the internet. I want to see what YOU can do on your OWN.
When you've finished your drawing, upload it to a photo hosting site and post it in here under a spoiler tag for grading! Class will continue tomorrow (EST) sometime (likely not for another 18-ish hours). HAVE FUN, but don't chat too much! Williamson is still within earshot. ;D
Belle started drawing the fire and she brought out her pastels she kept in her bag since she loved to draw. She was shading in the yellows and reds and the fire. She drew the black cauldron and then she drew the silver egg in it.
Being away from the barn as he was, William did not hear the second year complaining about drawing, and even if he had, she would not have received much sympathy from him.
When William DID return from....wherever he'd gone, he was carrying one pail with sand in it and one pail with some sort of thick, smelly, reddish liquid in it. The students in the front row would probably cover their noses at the smell but Willy, having made it hundreds of times, was immune to its stench.
Once he had set his materials down and had tossed the damp sand on the fire, he suited up in his long, dark, thick fireproof dragonhide gloves, quite proud that he'd remembered to put on fireproof EVERYTHING when he'd gotten dressed this morning.
Carefully, very, very carefully, the professor removed the cauldron from the heat source and set it down on the ground, still a ways away from his captive (?) audience. He removed his gloves and tucked them into the back pocket of his pants, then walked away again and came back with a simple cardboard box.
"All righty then, those of you who are still finishing up your drawings, feel free to do so. Those of you who are finished, sit tight for a just a moment. We'll resume in a second."
--------------------------------
Now back by the cauldron and the quivering egg, which seemed to be quaking as if under great pressure. William started laying out a few other eggs from his box, lining them all up from biggest to smallest behind HIS egg. He laid out a big, but not BIGBIG, ostrich egg, then a regular chicken egg, then a tiny, foil-wrapped chocolate candy egg.
Taking a step back, the professor beamed around at the class and clasped his hands loosely behind his back. "Welcome to Care of Magical Creatures. Heh. I have to say, from the drawings I've seen, you ALL have a bright future as magizoologists one day." He smiled and took a step to the side so that everyone could clearly see the eggs.
"First things first: What in Merlin's beard did I just have you draw? Take a guess, based on the size comparisons of MY egg to these other eggs. Try to be as specific as possible with your educated guess."
OOC: don't tell me WHY you think the egg is whatever it is, just tell me WHAT you think it is. ;-)
Annabelle raised her hand and gave a wild guess, "Professor wouldn't the egg be a dragon egg?" she asked. I mean it was stifling hot in the place and she felt the heat.

Reason: it doesn't suck at all ^_^
Nigel was looking at what the Professor was doing and he walked up to the eggs quietly. He looked at the chicken egg, the chocolate egg, and of course the ostrich egg. He had to make a guess but it could not be a dragon egg, coudn't it? But Nigel thought that they were illegal, even banned, so how could the professor get one. Well Nigel could not think of anything else that was that big as an egg so Nigel raised his hand and said "Um I think it is a Dragon Egg"
Pyrsephonie looked at and compared the eggs. "Maybe a Dragon," she guessed. "Or a Pheonix. Maybe a big Salamander." She started to think of other creatures that she knew of that involved fire.
As Callie and Medea stood at the back of the classroom like the cool girls they were the Divination Professor was trying to come up with a better joke to give her friend when they were interrupted by William. "Oh hey there."
He leaned in and whispered to them for a few moments and when he walked off a smile was playing on her lips. They were going to get to play waitress during this lesson, how fun! Professor Elwood hiked up her skirts from around her sandals and stepped over a few kids to reach the table that housed the refreshments.
Hmmmm...there were alot of the weird looking dragon fruit in a small basket and she took a second to decide how she was supposed to serve it. Did she have to give them the whole thing and they were to eat it like an apple? Nah.
Professor Elwood flicked her wand a few times and they began to slive themselves and she caught them each under a napkin. Now how to carry them all? Looking atound she saw a big flat metal plate leaning against the wall for whatever reason, which she picked up and placed the fruit slices on.
After hoisting the tray above her head like a good waitress would, Callie began to walk around the group of students pondering the question that Willy had just asked them. "Does anyone want some dragon fruit slices." She held out a few for them to take if they wanted.

A bright future as a magizoologist?! Could Kurumi just push herself up off the ground NOW and hug Professor Williamson? PLEASE? Kurumi never fangirled - minus coming close to doing so with Professor Zookara - but Professor Williamson was deserving T-shirts, mugs with his picture on it, and perhaps even a shrine in the Gryffindor dorms right now. Not only had he possibly brought THAT to class right now...but he had just implied that her future career of choice would be bright ignore that he had said this about everyone in the class.
Kurumi was so starstruck right now that she almost missed his next question and her eyes immediately fell on the egg display. The surface of the egg in question was certainly much more shiny and beautiful than the others - and most likely not eatable like the chocolate one - and Kurumi was practically bouncing in her seat. How many other types of eggs did you have to incubate in a cauldron over a crackling fire like that? Hmmm?!
Kurumi's hand SHOT up into the air. "Professor, is it perhaps an egg belonging to a Hebridean Black?" Dragon was the more obvious answer, yeah? Kurumi wanted speeeeeeeecifics. What breed of dragon had an egg like that? Kurumi was past guessing and was now just assuming that that was in fact a dragon egg. If it wasn't, well, then the Gryffindor was likely to be crushed.
Seeing their DADA professor walking around with some delicious smelling tea, Kurumi tried to catch the woman's attention because....she really wanted some. Now all they needed were cookies...
Or dragon fruit slices would do as well.
"I-I would, professor....s"

What in Merlin's beard was happening to her? She felt like the egg was drowning her in utter hypnotism. As Professor Williamson returned, she tried focusing her attention to him and to what he was saying and doing. But it was really hard to take off her eyes from that egg. It felt like it demanded her attention.
Shaking her head a bit, she raised her hand and gave the most obvious answer to the Professor's question, "It's a dragon egg, that would be my best guess." Yeap.
Now, she really a distraction so she can stop gawking at that egg. And what a perfect one at that their Divination Professor was handing out dragon fruit. Seriously? Dragon fruit? At this time. Oh. "Errmm..Professor Elwood. Can I have some?" she asked as she stood and walked over to where the Professor was, forcing herself not to take a glance at the mystifying egg.

Wait....did someone say Dragon Egg?!
Minerva saw two professors passing out tea and fruit. She smiled and put her hand up trying to get their attention. "Could I please have some tea and fruit." she asked them nicely and she didn't forget to say "Thank you" to them. She then turned back and studied the eggs Professor Williamson put on the table. It was such a big egg, what could it be. She put her hand up Professor could it be a Norwegian Ridgeback Dragon Egg?" She didn't know why she gave a specific dragon, but it was the first thing that came to her mind.

Ok there were a lot of Professors now, what with the DADA and the HOM Professor being here too. He was partly expecting the Headmaster and his Deputy to walk in next.
But then Professor Willamson reappeared with buckets in hand, one with sand, the other some kind of liquid. The Ravenclaw watched the Professor lay out the different eggs in front of them and asked them to take a guess.
Vickers took one quick glance at the displayed eggs but it was the rest of the set up that he was looking at. Raising his hand he replied "Sir, its a dragon egg..." and although the entire barn was dark, egg in the pot looked pretty dark from where he was at "... an egg from a Norwegian Ridgeback or a Welsh Green?"
Oh the other Professors were offering food "Professor Elwood I would like some." Dragon fruit. How appropriate.
Yeah thats what crazy is, when its broken you say theres nothing to fix++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++And you pray that everything will be okay, while you're making all the same mistakes
Angelina wasn't good at identifying things. That was probably a weakness of her. By looking at the egg she would have to take the best guess so can. It wouldn't be easy either. She never is around or in positions to identify eggs.
Raising her hand she said, "Umm.. I-I'm just guessing Professor... but is it a drag egg?" she smiled an uneven smile to show she really wasn't to sure. Even by her little stutter and waiting to answer showed as well.
Her first customer? "Well sure sweetie." Calista leaned over and picked a napkin full of slices off and handed them to the Prefect. "Enjoy."
For some reason her American accent was even thicker than usual and she suddenly had the urge to chew gum like those small diner waitresses.

"Yes you may!" Professor Elwood handed the little Claw some of the fruit with the musical jingle of her bracelets and gave her a quick smile before shooting another look at William's egg at the front of the class.

"Here you go Miss." Calista dropped some fruit into the girl's hand and continued to search the room for others who may be in need of some dragon fruit slices. This hot barn would surely be making their mouth's dry.

The next kid to ask her for some fruit got a look before she handed it over. It was one of the boys from Miss Fanster's group in her Divination lesson who had somehow gotten their wagon in the tree.
Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.
Oakey stuffed his drawing away very quickly and watched as Professor Williamson handled the large egg and placed smaller ones behind it. Then He saw Professor Romanos and Professor Elwood handing out Dragon Fruit Tea and Dragon Fruit slices. He heard Elwood speak up if anyone wanted a piece of the Dragon Fruit. I'll take a piece of Dragon Fruit please, he said politely. He also took took some Dragon Fruit Tea from Romanos as she passed him by. Thank you he said graciously. Now if he could just take a sip of this Dragon Fruit Tea...it was to crowded in here.
Oakey raised his hand and was about to answer what he believed what was in the egg. He quickly shot it back down though. Oh Huh I'm on to you Professor Oakey thought giving the COMC Professor a glare. You WANT me to say Dragon Egg, Merlin! You're baiting me to say it with all this Dragon related foods. Oakey raised his hand slowly this time. Professor I believe it's an egg for a really big Salamander. How about that.

As Gideon's drawing lay finished and they awaited the return of Professor Williamson, he noticed a few of the other professors started appearing at the barn. Were they invited? Heard rumors, been curious and decided to come out and see what it was all about? No matter the reason, it was interesting to see them around together other then at a feast or meal at the Great Hall.
And then Professor Williamson returned with a bucket of sand and another of a foul-smelling liquid. The prefect couldn't help but make a small face of discomfort as the odor reached his nose. Gideon did his best to try and work past it and focus on what was being said or done around him as the class was continued. He watched as eggs of varying sizes including a chocolate one were laid out in front and then they were asked in comparison what the egg they had first seen could possibly be.
Dragon was the most common consensus of the class as he listened to the answers spoken aloud and Gideon had to agree with his classmates seeing as thats certainly what he believed it in fact to be. A real live genuine dragon egg at school rather then within various pens at the preserve his brother assisted it. It certainly was an experience to be the closest he'd ever been. He himself remained quiet at the moment not adding his own opinion since it appeared fruitless, however he was accepting of the offer of tea. "Please Professor Romanos," he replied politely and quietly as she walked around.
There were so many Professors here! But they were giving out food, so that was good. "Erm - Professor..." The other students were saying Elwood. Glenn didn't take Divination, probably never would. "Could I have a Dragon Fruit please?" The Professor's voice was funny, American it sounded like.
Glenn shifted how she was sitting on the floor and continued watching the egg quaking in the cauldron. Her eyes wandered over to the chocolate, ostrich and chicken egg. She could do with chocolate right now, her chocolate was in her dormitory.
"It's a Dragon Egg." Glenn said. What other egg was that big?

She'd noticed Kurumi's hand shoot up in the air as quick as a firework, which made her chuckle slightly, though with Callie helping her with the fruit, Medea waited and turned to the next person. Aw, here we are. "Of course." she smiled, handing Minerva one of the cups of tea she held.
So a dragon egg, huh? How'd William manage one of those?

Aaaand...
Oh! She'd almost missed Oakey.
Medea handed him one of the cups, nodding a little while she kept her voice low as to not interrupt the lesson. "You're velcome." It was official. She was pouring her own cup when she was done passing these out to the students.

Hearing her name, she looked around for who called.
"Here you go, Mister Gert." she said quietly, handing the last cup she held over to him. Woops! Time to go pour some more then. While she curiously stared at the supposed dragon, or maybe salamander according to some of the students, egg.
Nigel already answered the question bu saw that some other Professors were here watching. Nigel was nervous with all of them here. Was something amazing going to happen because all of them were here or the Care of Magical Creatures Teacher Professor was friends with all of them. But Nigel saw that one was handing out Dragon Fruit "Um Professor could I have a Dragon Fruit please and some tea to please?"

Why were so many Professors here? Though the blonde guy didn't know who exactly they are, but he could recognize that they were the school staffs here.
Okay, ignore them. And now back to the lesson! The young professor showed three eggs to them. One of them was very.. large and strange. While the others were smaller. Gary didn't have any idea about that. For the largest one maybe it was a dragon egg. "Well, Professor. I think the largest one is a dragon egg." said him.
There were two Professors offeres tea and dragonfruit slice. Why did the not offer apples to him? But dragonfruit sounded yummy too. "Professor!" said him to the blonde Professor. What was her name? "I want the dragonfruit too." said him.

Derrick stared at the egg until the Professor asked a question. He looked up then back to the egg and put his hand up.''Professor that would most likely a Dragon's egg.''He looked around at some of the other Professors that had arrived.''Possibly a Welsh Green Maybe.''He kinda had a small obsession with Dragons
He turned around to see some Professors.''I Wouldn't mind some DragonFruit Please,Professor Elwood Please.''
Narumi thought Everyones answering dragon egg, well I am not going to say dragon eggIs it a very very very big mutated chicken egg? Yes, Narumi said it was a large mutated chicken egg. She smiled and said Whats dragon tea? Can I have some please Professor Romanos!? Dragon fruit, sounded yummy Can I have some dragon fruit please Professor Elwood!?
Prue finished up her drawing, no longer bothering about showing the professor instead watching him with interest as he began arranging other eggs behind the first... wait... did that mean it was about to hatch? It surely looked like it. He wouldn't let them be around for that would they? But they had the right stuff with them...
O.o "Professor... based on size..." and the fact that it was just on a fire and didn't die... but never mind that... "Is that a dragon egg?" In truth, she was doing her best to contain her fear... which was actually very well at the current time but nevertheless she couldn't contain how nervous and excited she felt.
Who wouldn't if this was a dragon?
Then she noticed the tea being handed out, staring at it open mouthed with envy before bouncing slightly. "Oooh can I please have some tea? Please?"
Having just finished her drawing, Silvia turned her attention to the eggs sitting in front of the class. Could that large egg really be what she thought it was!? But what was with the chocolate egg? "Professor, could that be a dragons egg, or maybe another creature associated with fire?" After all, there couldn't be very many magical creatures that could stand to have their eggs heated at such high temperatures. For most eggs, its mother's warmth or a heating spell would be enough to help it grow and hatch. And besides, why have all the other teachers here and all the precautions if it wasn't something dangerous? Then again, dragon eggs were really rare, how could the professor have gotten one, let alone even get permission to expose it to young students?

Sierra glanced around at the growing number of professors filing into the lesson. What was this? The new hot spot for the over thirty crowd? She watched them for a few seconds longer then turned her attention back to WWW. What did he have them draw? Raising her hand, she said, "...and egg inside a cauldron, with some flames blazing against the cauldron." Well, that was what he'd had them draw...
"I think it's a dragon egg, because those type eggs need a lot of heat in order to hatch," she said. "So that's why you have it in a heated cauldron. It could also be an ashwinder egg, since those are born from an unattended fire, but I'd still go with a dragon egg. Looks like you've attended to this one."
Belle saw the Dragon Fruit being passed around and some tea. "Professor may i have some dragon fruit and tea please?" she asked politely. She used her charming smile too.
