| | Arithmancy Study Laboratory
Not to far from the classroom where Arithmancy lessons are held, there is a room that looks like it has not been used properly for sixty years – or 17 years, when Professor Fox taught the subject. It has been cleaned up nicely, however, with all the dust gone, books and other objects placed neatly on the bookshelves located at the back wall of the room. The walls have been painted a lovely salmon color, with small white jasmines in a line around the middle of each wall.
The bookshelves contain various numerological texts, from specifics about a number to about calculating the map of your future, as well as several abacuses on one shelf to be used as counting aids. Please note, some of the books might be quite old, but they are well cared for, so should any harm come to them, then the price to pay will be heavy.
There is a large blackboard at the front of the room, which is charmed to write coded messages on it every once and awhile. You'll need to use your knowledge of cryptic messages, however, to translate it into English. Lining one wall is a row of windows, overlooking the Quidditch Pitch, and the opposite wall has smaller boards in which students may write out their calculations and teach each other, if desired.
The chamber may be used by students for puzzle solving and extra time to study the art of Arithmancy; all the books and tools that you should need could be found along the bookshelves. However, on the off chance that it is not there, Professor Hadley's office is right next door, so feel free to ask her for materials you may desire. All students using this room are expected to follow the honor system, and any abuse or inappropriate use of the classroom will result in immediate loss of house points and/or detention.
Rather than desks, there are several wooden tables scattered about the room in no particular arrangement with four or five chairs surrounding each table. This creates the perfect environment to bring a buddy or two to work out some difficult calculations and compare notes. You are encouraged to work with others, but do remember that cheating is NOT permitted and shall result in no house points and/or possible loss of points. There are also two [purple] armchairs located in the far corners of the room which are perfect for snuggling up with a good book or working out some homework questions.
Just remember again, Hadley's office is right next door, so keep your voices down unless of course you require her assistance. OOC: You are welcome to use this thread as a free roleplay area, but just be warned that Hadley may stop in at any given moment... so don't be doing anything you don't want her to know about. Feel free to use this to study and enhance your Arithmancy studies as well; please indicate in the title of your post if you require Professor Hadley's attention. Just remember that white jasmine is one of the flowers for the number two, which is about harmony and connecting; of which, you are all connecting your futures here at Hogwarts. And of course, all SS rules and Arithmancy-specific rules apply, always. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Fiyero Marcus Bermen First Year | Fiyero walked into the study, carrying a load of thick and thin books. All on Arithmancy. Fiyero, who has been studying the subject with his mother, a well respected Arithmancer. He walked to a table and dumped his books out. As they flopped open, he figured he should have had more care. Some are as old as 1845. Pulling his bag over his shoulders and on top of the table, Fiyero sat down. He dug out his notebook, quill and ink, and grabbed the thickest of books: Calculated Arithmancy, A Guide for Integral Arithmancy. With a deep sigh of genius and tiresome, he opens it up and starts reading, taking notes as he goes.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Archie O'Brien Slytherin Third Year | Nate silently walked into the Arithmancy practice room. He found the closest wall by him. Then he sneaked his way over there, and hung up a poster. Then he quickly snuck out of there.

Since the Common Room was rather crowded, and fifth years were everywhere around the library studying for OWLs, the Ravenclaw decided to choose another place where to go reading. And the Arithmancy laboratory sounded quite promising. As she made her way along the corridor, the fourth year held two books tightly in her hands. She had focused on subjects she wasn’t particularly good at in the past weeks, and she hadn’t been reading for Arithmancy almost at all. Things have to change…, she told herself as she pushed the door to the laboratory open.
As soon as she entered the room, Gwendolyn gave a quick look around. Hmm. Maybe this place was a bit too quiet. While looking around, her eyes stopped upon the bookshelves, then shifted to the windows. The fourth year glimpsed out the window and started looking at the Quidditch pitch. Truth be told, the Ravenclaw was eagerly waiting for the final game. As much as she liked Slytherin, there was no doubt in what house she was supporting. Obviously. Gwendolyn then drew her attention away from the window and looked around in order to find a seat. She picked a random desk and crashed down on the chair, then immediately started flipping the pages of the book she had brought with herself. This should keep her busy for a while.

What happened when you were too lazy to make your way to your Common Room when you wanted a nap? You headed for the usually deserted study lab, obviously.
Alice groggily entered the room and made her way to a chair. She flopped down in it and hugged her knees to her chest, curling into a tiny ball. MHHHHMMMMM. This was nice. Only her, a comfy chair, and hours of sleep just minutes away... and then someone sat on her. NAWT. COOL. The lioness opened her eyes to see the back of a girl with long, light brown hair perched on her. "HEYYY. PERSON. Yeah, you. GERROFF MEEEE!" Flail. Was she really that tiny that someone would SIT on her?!
WORST. DAY. EVER.

WORST. DAY. EVER. After she spent a while looking around the lab, and giving a quick glimpse at the Quidditch pitch, the Ravenclaw decided she should start studying. After all, that was why she came here. Gwen was about to crash on one of the chairs and start reading, but all of a sudden, a person started screaming. O_____________________o
What was going on?! ‘When did you get here?’ No ‘excuse me’, ‘sorry’… whatsoever. Gwendolyn started at the girl in disbelief before crashing down on one of the empty seats. Seriously- since when did people start appearing like this? Not fun.The fourth year drew her attention back to her book and started reading. She felt very stupid for the mistake she just did, but Gwen was not going to admit it.
After she finished reading a few pages, the fourth year grabbed herself a piece of parchment, and started taking notes. She really wasn’t in the mood to make conversation with this girl, and hoped she would forget the whole incident. Or at least, not recognize her the next time they would meet. Hmph.

When did Alice get here? ".. I've BEEN here. For 'round fifteen minutes. When did YOU get here?" What? Was she going to do anything other than sit there and stare at her book? And write on her parchment? The lioness watched her with wide eyes, the disbelief plain on her face. This.. was not normal. For other people, anyways. No apology? Or excuse? Or even the tiniest hint of acknowledgement that she regretted sitting on the lioness? hmph. People these days.
The thirteen year old scowled in frustration. "HEYY. PERSON. You. The one who sat on me." Flail. Yes, YOU. What do you think I'm talking to, the bookshelves? "You KNOW you sat on me, right? 'Cause you did. Just, y'know, for your information." And Alice expected a full apology. "You can't just sit on the queen of the world and not acknowledge it. That's not very respectful. OR COOL. It's definitely NAWT cool." MHM. Learn yo' manners, guuuurl. The Queen needs to be treated like a.. A QUEEN. Duh.

The fourth year went on reading the first chapter of the book she had brought with her, and then began to take notes. Gwendolyn started writing a few words on the nearly empty piece of parchment, with an almost illegible handwriting, though very orderly. Hmm. Gwen placed the quill down for a moment to examine her work before flipping the page of the book in order to carry on with her study. Scribble. Scribble. Scribble.
And yes. She was going to ignore the girl. ‘Well…’, she said as she raised her eyes from the book in order to look back at the younger student. ‘…I came here to study’ Therefore- don’t bother me. ‘… and it appears me that you are here to sleep. Whilst this is the Arithmancy study laboratory’, Gwen said, accentuating the word ‘study’, ‘… there is no wonder why I wouldn’t expect to find someone sleeping. Therefore, it isn’t my fault’ It was totally the girl’s fault for hibernating on that chair. It was definitely her fault for sleeping here, and I doubt she was meditating about essence cycles, Gwen thought and tried hard not to roll her eyes. Pft. Please.
Gwendolyn was about to return to her book when she heard the girl say something. Hey person? What now? Against her will, the fourth year drew her attention back to the other girl. ‘It was an honest mistake’, the Ravenclaw said curtly. And I am ready to accept your apology, she wanted to say, but managed to control herself. ‘But it wasn’t’ PAUSE ‘…entirely my fault’ Fine. She almost said it. There was no way she was going to apologize... Though… maybe that would be a better idea, the Ravenclaw told herself. ‘I umm…’, she started talking, but she heard the girl call herself the queen of the world. This- is not worth any apology, the fourth year thought. Hmmm.
What could be worse? Leaving it like this and listening to the girl go on and on about it, or apologizing and minding her own business? Since Gwen wasn’t willing to listen to this girl anymore, she made an effort and said an ‘I’m sorry’. Happy now?
This would mean she could carry on reading without having to listen to the endless story of ‘the queen’? Hopefully. As soon as she got to the page where the second chapter started, Gwen decided to leave the reading part aside, and start calculating.

As soon as she got to the page where the second chapter started, Gwen decided to leave the reading part aside, and start calculating. Well, I came here to study. Insert mimicking tone here. This girl was annoying. She sounded like a know-it-all. Alice didn't like those kinds of people. hmph. "Actually, it seems you came here to sit on little children," She pointed out seriously. 'Cause it did. "You should watch where you put your rump before you set it there." Queen Hulk was tired of being sat on. This had to be the 9048290278589132756897534th time it had happened.
It wasn't entirely the older girl's fault? A puzzled look crossed the lioness' face. Since when? hadn't it always been her fault? After all, she was the one who had chosen to sit an occupied chair. Alice was just about to go on lecturing her when she finally got an apology. FINALLY. Her scowl morphed into a BEAM and she bounced around the girl's chair happily. "THANK YOU. And you're forgiven!" BEAM. "So what's your name, person?" She said, flopping around the older girl in circles and most probably distracting her from her work. "Unless you'd like to go on being called 'person,' then you don't have to give me a name." Giggle.

The piece of parchment soon got all covered with her notes on the first chapter, and, as soon as she finished, Gwen put the quill down and examined her work before starting to read from where she last stopped. Pam pam pam… Where was it?, the fourth year asked herself as she tried to find the part which she hadn’t studied yet. And no. She was not even planning to listen to the girl. Why would she, anyway? It wasn’t like she was the mean one… well… maybe she was, but that wasn’t a good enough reason to apologize and start being all nice and communicative. Because… whoever this person was, Gwen didn’t really care. Hmph. So anyway, where is… ah. Here!, the Ravenclaw thought as she finally came across the sentence she was looking for, and then started to read. Since apologizing seemed to be the best option to make the girl stop talking, Gwen said an ‘I’m sorry’, and was about to return to her book, but… something made her stop. The girl started bouncing around. Another hyperactive firstie?
Gwen had come across too many of those. See? These weren’t trainable. With this, she could prove the Slytherin wrong. ‘You can calm down now…’, Gwen said and tried not to roll her eyes. With or without the girl bouncing around her, the fourth year was determined to study. That was why she came her, after all. Though, in the next moment, the hyperactive firstie started talking… AGAIN, making the fourth year raise her eyes from the book and look coldly at her. ‘Gwen. Gwen Greene’, she said curtly. ‘And you are…?’ Not like she was planning on remembering, but mehh.

She didn't like the study lab, with all it's school-related junk and thaaangs, but bouncing made everything better. Bounce. Talking made things better, too, so she was gonna to that, too. And crabby-person-in-the-chair was gonna help her. "Well, it's nice to meet you Gwen Gwen Greene!" BEAM. That was a pretty name, though she didn't know why a parent would give his/her child the same first and middle names. "My name is Alice Fischer. HAII." Cue teensy wave. Heh.
Now it was time to bombard this girl with questions.. tee hee. "What's your year? What house are you in? "Do you have any candy on you? What is your purpose in life? Have you ever sat on someone before?" Those were the main questions. She also had questions about why Gwen Gwen was so nit picky and studious, but she would save those until later. Bounce.

As much as she was trying to convince herself that she could indeed study with the hyperactive firstie around, Gwendolyn got distracted. She was focusing on her book, so that she didn’t hear the girl say her name in a very silly way. Her eyes were examining the words carefully, but in the next moment, she stopped herself- ‘Nice to meet you…’, she heard herself saying. Why she said that… Gwen had no idea. She just drew her attention to the piece of parchment and started scribbling a few words. Though, she soon got distracted again.
This girl talked… A LOT.
Since she was probably going to keep talking until Gwen would answer to her questions, the fourth year picked the less painful option. Heh. Anything to make her stop talking for a couple of seconds. ‘I’m a fourth year Ravenclaw’, she said curtly. Was that all? Nooo! Of course not. This Alice girl still had lots of questions prepared. ‘Candy? Hmm…’, she mused as she searched through her bag. What? If the firstie would eat, this would mean she would stop talking, therefore Gwen would be able to concentrate on Arithmancy again. It sounded like a good plan…
Gwen eventually took out a box of Bertie Bott’s and extended her hand to the girl. ‘Want some?’, the fourth year asked. Truth be told, she preferred chocolate frogs, but it looked like she had left them in the Common Room. These were the only sweets she had right now. Errr… hang on- If the girl is already hyper, candy would indeed help...
Gwen felt like hitting her head against the desk. Nicely done, Greene, she ‘ congratulated’ herself. Her plan wouldn’t work. The girl won’t shut up. She will probably be even more jumpy. Great. This is just great, the fourth year thought and tried hard not to roll her eyes.
Though, as the lat two questions followed, Gwen just stared at the girl. Her purpose in life? She was not talking about this with her. Mehh. Maybe Alice wouldn’t notice she hadn’t answered to this. ‘How about you?’ She was referring to whatever question Alice was going to pick. Gwen didn’t care anymore. Her study time was ruined anyway...

Errr… hang on- If the girl is already hyper, candy would indeed help...
Gwen felt like hitting her head against the desk. Nicely done, Greene, she ‘congratulated’ herself.
"A fourth year? Woooooow. You must be fifteen already! That's so..." OLD. ".. uhm... awesome." Nodnodnod. "OH. I like 'Claaaaws. Two of my besties are 'Claaaaws. MHM." And.. the girl was offering her candy? YES. Yesyesyesyesyes. Alice took the candy from Gwen Gwen and popped some into her mouth. "Faaaaanks, Gwen Gwen!" She said, bouncing around the older girl. "I'm a second year Gryffie. MHM. Mhm mhm mhhhhhhmmmmm."
WELL. Gwen Gwen seemed to want to study, Alice thought that she should stop pestering her. "MMKAY. Well. Imma go find another place to take a nap. Byyyeeeee Gwen Gwen!" The lioness shot the girl a BEAM and then hopped out of the room, the candy still in her hand. Though she was probably much too hyper to sleep now
