Butterfly drew a sqaure on the paper,"Stat-UA HAB-itum." She smiled as it turned into a normal picture frame. SHe sat quietly while looking at it.

Setting her picture on her desk, Kurumi was momentarily distracted by it. It was a picture that she had taken over the summer after being given a make over by Jonathan's mother. Her first moments with her new look had been really awkward, but nothing had made her feel more awkward than when he had seen her for the first time. The picture was from a small dinner party his family had hosted, of her and Jonathan of course, and she smiled because for perhaps the first time she did not look plain standing next to him. She had another one with her as well, one of her and Selina smashing chocolate frogs with Beater's bats in the dorms. Horrid things.

When there was a discussion about what Transfiguration was, Kurumi opted to be an active listener and refresh her notes on the topic should anything new pop up that she didn't already have written down from previous terms.

Kurumi was pleasantly surprised when class then immediately moved on to an activity. So soon?! Excellent! First things first though, Kurumi needed to practice the incantation and wand movement before diving right in and trying it on her piece of paper. She flinched a bit when Professor Magnus subtly hinted at not blowing anything up. She hadn't said it, but it was all in her eyes. She didn't say anything about melting things. So, Kurumi was safe. Yep.

First, Kurumi picked up her wand and practiced drawing a square in the air. "Professor Magnus," she asked with her hand in the air. "How important is it to draw a perfect square? If we were to trace a rectangle in the air, for example, would the results be the same?" For now, Kurumi would stick with trying to perfect drawing air squares.

Once she felt confident enough with this, she set her wand down on the table and used her index finger in its place. "'Stat-UA HAB-itum....Stat-UA HAB-itum....Stat-UA HAB-itum...Stat-UA HAB-itum..." she repeated as she drew much smaller and confined air squares with her finger. That sounded just about right. Time to put everything together.

Kurumi picked up her wand again and traced a square above her paper. "Stat-UA HAB-itum," she said. The effects were instant and, well, the result was what she suspected they would be. Her paper now somewhat resembled a mushy rice cake that had been rolled with a rolling pin and was now a gooey mess all over the table. She couldn't help but laugh. Somethings just never changed. "Reverto," she commanded, and her paper was back to normal.

Good, now that THAT was out of the way, her second go should be much more fruitful.

Kurumi glanced over at Jezz who seemed to be struggling a bit and flashed her a smile. "It helps if you relax your shoulders," she suggested. Jezz looked very tense, probably from being nervous which was to be expected when practicing a new spell. "You'll get it and probably won't have to melt your paper to do it. Don't call yourself a failure. Remember, there are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure."

Such as always having to melt your object before doing things properly.

Jezz smiled at Kurumi and took a deep cleansing breath and felt her shoulders release some, but not all of the tension. "I'm trying but this is all still so new to me and I really don't want to let anyone down." Especially herself. She decided it would be best if she just practiced the incantation. "Stat-UA HAB-itum. Stat-UA HAB-itum. Stat-UA HAB-itum," she said to herself almost as a chant.

She closed her eyes, probably not the wisest thing she could do while picking up her wand. She took a deep calming breath drew opened her eyes, drew a square over the paper with her wand and said, "Stat-UA HAB-itum." The paper below her changed, not into a picture frame but small bouncy rubber balls going all over the place. "Reverto."

Lily watched as some of the older students transformed their papers into frames. After watching for a while, she decided to practice the incantation first, then attempt to transform the paper. "Stat-UA HAB-itum..." continuing on until she felt comfortable to attempt the spell. Pulling out her wand, Lily drew a box over the paper with her wand while saying "Stat-UA HAB-itum." Poof, there was a frame, but it was lopsided and not at all looking like the professor's frame. "Reverto" Lily stated pointing her wand at her paper, making it return to it's original form. Now to try again until I get this. Lily thought. "Stat-UA HAB-itum" She said again forming a box over her paper. This time, she got an almost square frame that somewhat looked like the Professor's. Lily returned it back to the paper form and kept on trying.

This was the first lesson Hades hadn't speak even a word. He was busy writing down notes when other students were racing to give their answers. As he finished with his notes, Hades glanced briefly at the piece of paper, tracing a square shape on it with his finger. "Stat-UA HAB-itum..." he muttered. Weird incantation. Almost sound like something from pre-historic era, whatsoever. Suddenly, a question struck Hades' mind and he shot his hand up in the air. "Professor!" called the blonde Slytherin as he waved his hand to get the professor's attention. "Does it need to be square? I mean, if I want to make a circular frame, should I trace according to the shape I chose?"

"Exactly right, on both counts. Well done. A controlled wand movement, clear speaking and above all focus are extremely important." Isabelle was mighty impressed that a young one had picked up on such an important point. She gave the girl a broad grin for that.

Again with the eye narrowing. This time for someone that wasn't paying attention.

Walking over to the girl, Isabelle took the folded piece of paper out of her hand and placed it down on the table. Smoothing it out in a rather pointed manner, she cleared her throat. "The parchment is to be used for practice, not for you to distract yourself with when you should be paying attention to the lesson. Five points from Slytherin."

"Yes, understanding the physical traits of an animal, or person, you are going to transfigure is paramount so not to cause injury." Isabelle nodded approval towards Alyssa.

"Exactly. It's not just changing the appearance of something, but also being able to produce something seemingly from thin air." Oh yes, and Gamp's Law's, one of the very important things they all needed to remember.

"Gamp's Law's, as Sierra mentioned will all be listed in your textbooks, so please make sure you read that before attempting to do any spells outside of the classroom," Isabelle said, raising her voice to address the whole class.

Never use it on a professor? Did she hear that right? "Considering the professor is likely to be more skilled than you, it isn't a good idea to try and use transfiguration on them, no." Not that they were allowed to use it as a punishment.

"Concentration is a major thing to remember, yes. Good, August." Smiling as she passed towards the front of the class, Isabelle patted him on the shoulder lightly.

"Absolutely! If you drop focus and concentration for a second with this type of magic things you turn out in a manner that you don't want."

Getting back to the front of the class, Issy turned to face the kids and sum up what had been said. "You are all correct, well done. Transfiguration is, put simply, changing one thing into another. Although, as Sierra and a couple of you pointed out, you can also conjure, vanish and untransfigure things."

Picking up the piece of paper she had left on her desk for the demonstration, Isabelle held it in front of her. "Now the paper you have all been given will, hopefully, by the end of the lesson become a brand new picture frame for the photo's you all brought with you." She hadn't just asked them to bring them for her amusement. Although you never knew, some of them might be funny. Issy hadn't actually seen them yet.

Taking her wand out of her pocket again Isabelle placed it against the paper and drew a square around all four sides. With almost a pop the paper changed into a gold picture frame that was slightly ornate. "The incantation is 'Stat-UA HAB-itum' (Statua Habitum)....and you trace a square above the object you are changing. Because this is a new spell you're trying I've given you something square to use, in the paper, but it can work on any object no matter the shape. I'll explain where your photo's come into the practice a little later when you have all got used to the spell. For now you don't need them."

Putting the frame down on her desk, Isabelle spread her arms wide and smiled. "Now I don't want you all to launch into changing things yet, please do refine each element of the spell before you try it for real. And don't be worried if it doesn't work first time. No one is perfect. Just revert it back to it's original state, using 'Reverto', and try again. And please, don't be afraid to ask for help!"

OOC: You can begiiiiiin! PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE READ EVERYTHING ISABELLE HAS ASKED YOU TO DO. No excessive chatter, and please don't blow anything up. lol This is my last post before bed, but Issy will be here the whole time. Remember that. ;)

Harvey had taken out his picture and was looking at it when he realised that he was supposed to be doing the activity.. so he took out his wand and started tracing the square on his page without saying anything just to make sure the wand movement was correct. He did this over and over and over again, he then put the wand on the table and practiced the incantation. "Stat-UA HAB-itum... Stat-UA HAB-itum...Stat-UA HAB-itum...Stat-UA HAB-itum....Stat-UA HAB-itum....Stat-UA HAB-itum...Stat-UA HAB-itum...Stat-UA HAB-itum..Stat-UA HAB-itum....Stat-UA HAB-itum" he then picked up his wand and tried the wand movement and incantation.. he traced the square on his page "Stat-UA HAB-itum" he said and saw his paper turn into a frame.. he was happy that he had got it right.. "Reverto!" he said changing it back and trying again.. traced the square and "Stat-UA HAB-itum" he chanted but it didnt change into the frame it was before.. but something else all together.. a circle type frame or something. well dented circle frame more like.. "Reverto" he said as he tried again and if it worked he was leaving it as it was.. trace the square "Stat-UA HAB-itum" he chanted as it worked and became a nice frame.. Harvey put his wand down he was going to leave it as it was..

"Statua Habitum..." Nate murmured to himself, his wand still on the desk. Instead, he was holding a substitute wand he had made for himself by breaking off about 14 inches of a tree branch on the grounds. It was for wand movement practice with the incantation, without actually doing the spell.

Tracing a square over the empty sheet of paper with his practice wand--which was obviously not his actual wand, especially since his real wand was sitting on the desk in front of him--Nate said, "Statua Habitum!" Of course nothing happened, but it felt right. He practiced a few more times, trying to get the feel for the spell. One didn't simply say the spell comfortably the first time...

Poolicious 01-10-2012 03:34 AM

Messer's eyes went from his notebook where he wrote all the instruction Professor Magnus said earlier to the piece of paper in his desk. He decided to practice the incantation first. Statua Habitum. Statua Habitum. He repeated the incantation in his head over and over again. "StAt-Ua Hab-itUm...StaAt-ua HAB-ituM..sTat-uA HAB-Itum.." That didn't sounds right. "Stat-UA HAB-itum..Stat-UA HAB-itum.." Better.

The first year reached up for his wand, he placed it above the paper and drew a square around all four sides "Stat-UA HAB-itum!" but nothing happen the paper didn't change into a photo frame. Maybe he did something wrong. The wand movement perhaps? Or the incantation? "Stat-UA HAB-itum!" Nothing happen again. "Stat-UA HAB-itum!" this time the paper turned into a photo frame but it didn't last long. Poof! It changed back into a paper. Well, he just need to keep on trying.

Bazinga 01-10-2012 03:47 AM

Minerva made a square with her wand again, this time making sure it was a square "Stat ua Hab itum" the paper turned into a picture frame. Minerva smiled, she loved this class and it had always seemed to come to her after two or three tries. She beamed at her picture frame and then pointed her wand again 'Reverto" to try again making sure it wasn't just luck that did this.

RandomRaven 01-10-2012 03:54 AM

Oh, now Raven understood why the students need to bring a photograph. They would transfigure a paper into a frame? Sounds cool. Raven took her wand out, then she tried the spell.

She drew a square around all four sides with her wand and mention the incantation clearly.

"Stat-UA HAB-itum." the paper now became a black frame

"Cool!" she said. "Reverto!" then the frame changed again became a plain paper.

Hey Ju 01-10-2012 03:57 AM

Sophie looked around the class as everyone started trying out the new spell. She got her wand and started drawing the square on the paper, without saying anything. Before she realized it, the paper started burning out where the wand was touching, as if someone was holding a light match under it. She jumped on her seat and started tapping the paper with her other hand to stop it from burning more. Oops...

Maybe she'd better just say the words first, without holding the wand, just in case...

She placed her wand on the desk and started repeating the words. "Statu Habitum." No! "Statua Habitum!" oh, there! That was it! "Statua Habitum! Statua Habitum!" she said it a few more times and picked up her wand once more.

She drew the square around the burned parts of the paper (oh well...) "Statua Habitum!" and a weird picture frame was right in front of her. It didn't look exactly like the professor's, but Sophie actually though the burned parts made her picture frame look... different. In a very interesting way.

sweetpinkpixie 01-10-2012 04:09 AM

just going to pretend this happened pre-Reverto XD

Kurumi was always so afraid of failure that it almost always got in the way of her spellwork. It had certainly been the case last term in Professor Schirmer's Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson when they were learning how to conjure a patronus. She still wasn't able to produce much more than a wisp, but things had certainly improved once she allowed herself to let go a bit. "The only way you would let anyone down is by not trying, so you are already over that hurtle," she added with a small wink.

Okay, now back to her piece of paper and NOT making it melt.

Kurumi twirled her wand in her hand a few times before she held it firmly and pointed it at her piece of paper. Slowly, she traced a square hopefully making the corners 90 degrees and not something less and trace a lopsided diamond in the air. Holding her breath, Kurumi cast the spell. "Stat-UA HAB-itum!" The paper contorted and morphed until it took the shape of a glass photo frame. Thank Merlin! Her paper hadn't melted this time!

Kurumi didn't notice the bouncing ball Jezz had transfigured until it was too late and the ball came bouncing on to her table, smacked into her frame, and sent it crashing to the ground where it shattered into several pieces.

Vickers looked down the the frame he held in his hand. He wasnt one for bring pictures around, but this one had always stayed on his bedside table-- it was the framed photo of his late mother. And he brought it with him when he moved to Hogwarts. He listened to the Professor demonstrate how to transfigure a photo frame out of paper. So did that mean he would eventually have to take his mother's photo out of the frame?

Gosh he had better do this spell right. The photo was too much of value to him to have him mess up.

He stashed his mother's photo back into his bag where it lay safer than in the midst of students practicing the spell. He eyed his notes and recalled how the Professor uttered the spell, the pronunciation playing over and over in his head. He whispered the spell a few times to himself until he got the hang of saying it properly "Statua Habitum". Okay now for the paper. He drew it closer to himself and traced an outline of the square as he uttered "Statua Habitum.."
WHOOOOOOOOOOSHHHH
Flying paper. No it wasnt supposed to do that nuh uh.

Why did every class have to start with the definition of the subject. Ira hadn't bothered to answer. She anyways wasn't very much fond of Transfiguration. But it was surely beneficial, to say the least! But now the were on to a fun part!

She took out her photograph. Then she watched amazed, as the professor coverted, no, transfigured a piece of paper into a beautiful photo frame! Wow! Now Ira was eager to learn that.

She took down her notes:
Text Cut: Ira's Notes
Paper to Photo frame
Spell: Statua Habitum (Stat-UA HAB-itum)
Wand Movement: trace a square or any other shape above the object you are changing

Reverse Spell: Reverto

Ira first decided to practice the incantation. Stat-UA HAB-itum.. statua habitum.. Statua Habitum. That seemed right? Maybe.

She decided to now try the spell.

5 Points for trying to make Origami!? Ariana had just lost her first points of the year.. great... Ariana raised her wand to the paper and traced the outline of the squares on the edges of the paper. "Stat-UA HAB-itum." she spoke clearly & a beautiful Golf Frame appeared. Ariana's mother taught her this spell while she was 8, so Ariana already could do it

Jezz had felt so much hope coming off of Kurumi for her... That was until the bouncing ball. She had said reverto but it hadn't worked and now there was a shattering sound as it had smashed Kurumi's picture frame.

"Reverto," Jezz shouted and caught the ball in mid bounce. It transfigured back to the piece of paper and floated gently down landing in front of her, but the damage was done. "I am so sorry Kurumi. I don't know what happened or how to control the ball." She had said the spell right and she was pretty sure she had made a good square. "I am truly sorry. I didn't know that was going to happen. I'd never do that on purpose, I SWEAR." Great, she was getting hysterical. Emotional.

"Here have my piece of paper," Jezz said pushing it towards the older girl. She didn't want it anyway. It was becoming a thorn in her side to try and deal with it anymore. "I'll just..." Take a zero on the assignment? Ask for another piece of paper? She looked down and mumbled, "Sorry," one last time.

Flailing her arms a bit, Kurumi turned to look at Jezz. "I-I-It's alright, I know you didn't do it on purpose. These things happen with new spells." Jezz wasn't Sierra. Bowing her head towards Professor Magnus in apology, Kurumi got out of her seat and scampered around to the front where the frame lay in pieces. She then pointed her wand at the pieces. "Reparo," she said and the pieces glued themselves back together and made it seem like the incident had never happened in the first place. She pocketed her wand again and held up the frame for Jezz to see. "No harm done." If it would make the first year feel better she would say that she forgave her, but Kurumi really didn't think that was necessary. There was nothing to forgive.

She then returned to her seat and set the frame on her desk before once again removing her wand from her pocket. "Reverto," she commanded, and the frame was back to being a simple sheet of white paper.

Feeling a bit enthusiastic even if Jasper the snake wasn't with them at the current lesson because Professor Magnus promised to send her regards to the snake, Beezus comfortably leaned on her seat as the discussion commenced.

Of course, they were to tackle about the definition of Transfiguration itself first. While the other students where busy sharing their ideas and answers regarding the subject on, Beezus took the time to refresh her thoughts about it too although she chose to stay silent as her idea was almost quite the same with the others.

When the idea sharing was finished, Professor Magnus added on a bit more and announced the start of their activity.

REALLY?

That early? They were just talking about what Transfiguration was and now they'd already be transfiguring. How awesome was that! And how lucky were those new students who didn't have to undergo the set of theoretical questions.

Excited, the young eaglet immediately practiced the spell they'd be using to transfigure the paper on their desks into picture frames. "Statua Habitum.." She muttered first, without giving any emphasis. "Stat..wait, wait..Stat-UA..what was that again?" Beezus was having a bit of a hard time since she was never good at memorizing spells. "Stat-UA HAB-itum." Sounds good enough.

Next, she pulled out her wand from her wrist holster and pointed its tip towards the piece of paper on her desk. But as she was said the incantation, a tickling sensation occurred on her throat which caused her to cough slightly which resulted to her saying, "Stat-UAh" Cough. "..bi-tum!" She tried to stop but too late, a tiny spark had already emitted from the tip of her wand. The paper frizzled, bent here and there and turned into a banana peel.

A BANANA PEEL!

Beezus slapped her own cheek as she irritably exhaled. "Yeah. Great work Beezus," she sarcastically remarked herself.

She showed it to her and she came to accept that maybe the older girl was right. Accidents did happen and some accidents were easily fixed with the wave of a wand. She looked back at her own sheet of paper. Why couldn't she just... "Stat-UA HAB-itum!" With a perfect square drawn above it she watched as it transfigured into a wooden picture frame.

Jezz could only stare at it. The flowers that were going around it made her think of her grandfather and she couldn't help but give a small smile. "Maybe all it took was an accident to make me really want for this paper to be a picture frame." She showed it to Kurumi smiled softly. She placed it back down and said, "Reverto." And stared at the now white sheet of paper.

Glenn took her wand out of a pocket in her robes and bit her lip in concentration. She drew a small square on her piece of paper and said "Stat-UA HAB-itum!" The badger watched as the piece of paper shrunk and darkened till it was a tiny wooden photo frame. Nope. That was not what she was aiming for. It wouldn't be able to hold the somewhat large photo she had brought with her.

The photo was a moving picture of herself as a young child, around six. Glenn was holding her father's wand, making a flower grow until it was the size of a car. Her father had thought it was funny. Her mother - Not so much.

"Reverto." She muttered, blowing the curly blonde hair out of her eyes in a sigh and turned to look at the other students progress. Sophie! No way!

Glenn looked over in her direction and winked at her. Gesturing to her work and shrugging. Well, she better get back to work. "Stat-UA HAB-itum!!" She did the same as she had before, except, perhaps overshooting how vigorously she needed to point her wand in order to draw the square in mid air. Her wand flew out of her hand and over the students heads, "Duck!" She cried and she slid from her seat and scrambled to pick it up again.

Since her first attempt was a total failure, Beezus rested for a bit before turning back the banana peel into the piece of paper again.

She rested both her arms on the desk and looked at the picture she brought along with her for the meantime. It was taken last summer. A picture of her and her best friend, Erin. Yeah, they had some supertastic fun over the holidays even if Erin stayed only for a few days. They did things together such as cooking breakfast and even having pillow fights before they go to sleep. That was such a summer, and one she won't ever forget.

After a while, she straightened up. It was time she continue doing the task. "Reverto," she mumbled and the banana peel returned to being the piece of paper.

Beezus pulled the paper and placed it in front of her, pulled her wand out again. Breathing, she reminded herself of the correct incantation along with the proper wand movement. Then.. "Stat-UA HAB-itum." the young eaglet exclaimed as a small reddish spark traveled from the tip of her wand into the paper.

The piece of paper glowed then it sort of stiffened. "Please let it work.." she plead as she clutched her wand tightly. It contorted, crumpled and rolled back and forth.

A second later, a picture frame was on her desk with colorful sequins along its border.

RoseMalfoy 01-10-2012 07:16 AM

Desiree had her picture sitting next to the paper on her desk, it was one of her and her sister laughing. She smiled a little at the memory and picked up her wand. First maybe she would just practice drawing a square. Start with the basics.. She traced a square around the paper, and in her head she was trying to get the pronunciation right

Stat-UA HAB-itum. Stat-UA HAB-itum..

She kept tracing a square but said the next one out loud, "Stat-UA HAB-itum." She stared at the plain piece of paper, and was shocked to see that there was now an intricate drawing of a frame etched onto it, slightly raised off the paper. Well that wasn't bad for a first try! She pointed her wand again, "Reverto!" and there was the plain old piece of paper again. Desiree wasn't getting frustrated though, she found this really fun and exciting!

Enigma 01-10-2012 07:17 AM

Ira readied herself for her first attempt. She looked took her wand and referring to her notes for the correct incantation and wand movement, she tried. She drew a square with her wand on the paper in front of her and muttered, "Stat-UA HAB-itum!"

But nothing much happened.. except that the paper had somewhat shrunk and turned somewhat to a square paper frame! Not like she had wanted..

Uh? What had she done wrong? Maybe she hadn't focused enough. So she first calmed herself down and tried again.

RoseMalfoy 01-10-2012 07:44 AM

Deciding to try again after practicing a few more times Desiree picked up her wand. She just had a really good feeling about this time. Clearing her throat a bit she carefully traced a square around the paper, "Stat-UA HAB-itum!" she said clearly. The paper began to transform right before her eyes. She stared at in awe, the paper was no longer paper.. it was a FRAME!! And a nice one too! It wasn't too intricate, but it was interesting, she liked it.

Admiring her frame, a question suddenly popped into her head, she politely raised her hand, "Professor I was just wondering why all our frames look different?" because she hadn't been concentrating on this frame, just a frame in general, but it turned into this.."Is it that whatever frame you concentrate on, that's the one it transfigures into, or is it just chance?" she asked curiously. She just found the whole concept interesting.

"It was very nice, thank you for asking, Selina," Isabelle smiled at the girl and got up from her position perched on her desk.

Stepping forward a couple of places, she waved her wand lazily in the direction of the board, making the chalk shoot in the air and write her name. "Good morning everyone! For those of you that don't know me, my name is Professor Magnus, and welcome to the first Transfiguration lesson of the term."

Placing her wand back in her pocket, her hands followed and she stood, relaxed, and smiling at the assembled group. "Now, I hope you have all brought a photo with you, as I requested in the lesson notice. If you want to get them out of your bags and place them ready on your desk for when we practice a little later." She eyed them all and gave them some time to do as she asked.

"Okay then. As we have quite a few new students with us this lesson, I'd like to start by asking you all to tell me the definition of Transfiguration, as you understand it, and the most important things you need to remember when performing this branch of magic."

OOC: You can all answer this one, then I'll move on later to the practical part.

Isabelle narrowed her eyes at this one. She wasn't sure if the girl was being serious, or just a naive firstie. "Urrr, no. You seem to be getting confused with transportation. Not the same thing." But you know, she was young. She could excused just this once.

Remember that. ;)

"StatUA haBItum!" Tayla said, practicing the words without yet waving her wand. "No, that wasn't right." she thought. Trying to remember how Professor Magnus had said it, she tried again. "StatUA...ha...HABitum! StatUA HABitum!" There! "StatUA HABitum!" she said the incantation over and over, then after a few more tries. She picked up her wand and practiced the wand movement, tracing a square above the piece of paper.

"StatUA haBItum!" she said in her sudden and excited urge to try. "Oh..." Tayla knew she didn't pronounce the second word correctly. The piece of paper was sort of like...a flat block of hard white paper. "Great," she said with a sigh. "Reverto." The block turned back to a piece of paper.

"StatUA HABitum," she whispered to herself. Then with a wave of her wand, she tried again. "StatUA HABitum!" The piece of paper turned into a picture frame. She smiled, though the frame wasn't as beautiful as Professor Magnus' one. It looked like the flat block of hard paper she managed a moment ago, but this time had space in the center for a picture. "Better at least..." she thought happily. "Reverto."

Tayla kept on practicing. She wanted a pretty frame, too.

Justin began to practice the incantation when given the go ahead from the Professor. " Stat-ua-hab-itum, Stat-ua hab-itum....." He practiced with out his wand until feeling comfortable with it's pronounciation. Then out came his wand and he proceeded to trace the edge of the paper while saying, " Stat-ua hab-itum " wow his paper really did turn into a beautiful frame. Then he said the counter spell, " Reverto! " and the paper was just paper again. He practiced this several times to make sure he has mastered the spell to his satisfaction. Then sat and waited for further instruction.

Alright. This seemed fairly simple.

Holding her wand, Nora kept staring at the photo-frame-to-be for a few moments, but then decided to put it on the desk and practice first. You know, to be sure that she won't turn the desk or something else.

"Stat-ua Hab-itum," she mumbled. "Statua Habitum... Statua Habitum..." Okay, that worked well enough. Holding her wand again, she said "Statua Habitum," tracing a square above the paper, watching as it slowly turned into a... frame made of paper. Great.

"Reverto," she said, this time watching as the paper turned back to its original state. She'll just have to practice more and it will work, right?

Eventually.

Wait? So they weren't going to do any spells on the photos they had brought? Ness pouted a little so what was the point of bringing the photo, couldn't they just put the photo in the frame once they got back to their dorms. Whatever, it didn't really matter, Nessie put her photo back into her bag and then she took her wand out of her pocket.

She knew she'd mess up already, she wasn't so good with these sort of things. "'Stat-UA HAB-itum'" she said just practicing the incarnation so she'd get it right, because that was usually where she went wrong. She then practiced the wand movement and she traced a square in the air. With these things it was always good to do one step at a time. She said the incarnation in her head a few more times and then she picked up the paper.

Tracing a sqaure shape over the paper she got began performing the spell."'Stat-UA HAB...HA..HA" she said, but got interrupted by a sneeze. "HACHOO!" She had totally messed up and there was no picture frame, instead the paper shot into the air and came to life. It looked scary, well for a paper that was. She looked at the paper once more and noticed how it had folded itself so it looked like it had a mouth...within a few seconds the paper started opening and closing its mouth as though it wanted to eat her. She stood still for a few seconds, but then she started taking a few steps back. "Um...somebody help?" she said a little ashamed this was very embarrassing after all.

Holmesian Feline 01-10-2012 10:25 AM

So thats where the need for a picture came into play...they were going to make a picture frame for it. How cool! Certainly one of the more interesting lessons and reminded him just a tad of Lafay's lesson the previous term on moving pictures. Now there was a corresponding spell that rounded it out to make a whole photo and frame set.

Statua Habitum

Gideon wrote it down in his notes, practicing it in his head as he did so before speaking aloud though quietly a few to practice saying it. "Statua Habitum...Stat-UA HAB-itum...Statua Habitum." Now for the drawing part, the 5th year tracing a square on his piece of paper with the tip of his wand, trying to visualize it in his mind. He then imagined it becoming what he wanted it to be...a three-dimensional square frame.

Easier visualized then done of course.

Taking his wand up from the paper, he knew he had to actually try it. "Statua Habitum..." he finally cast, moving his wand in a square above the paper as Professor Magnus had demonstrated. Gideon watched the results as he had tried to focus on what it was to be but it had developed all wrong, looking instead like a square of twigs. Sighing softly, he moved to change it back. "Reverto," he cast, the object reverting to its original paper form, eying it slightly as he tried to figure what he had done wrong.

Quick Quotes Quill 01-10-2012 10:28 AM

Gwen listened to the Professor talk and then waited a few minutes, letting the information sink in. The girl grabbed her wand, but, noticing that her hand was shaking, she placed it down again. If I don’t draw a perfect sqare, that means the frame will come out… wavy? ‘Professor?’, the Ravenclaw began saying, raising her hand. ‘Umm… will the shape of the frame be exactly the way we draw it? And, if we…err… I make a mistake, it will come out asymmetrical?’ Gah, stupid hand, Gwen thought and glimpsed back at her shaking hand. 'And what about the design of the frame? And color? How can we control that?'

‘Stat-UA HAB-itum… Stat-UA HAB-itum.... Statua Habitum’, the third year practiced the incantation a few times and then decided it was time to actually start transfiguring the piece of paper. Hopefully I won’t screw anything up…

Looking back at the piece of paper, Gwendolyn decided to give it a try. ‘Stat-UA HAB-itum!’, she said loud and clear and was surprised to see that it changed into a frame. I DID IT!!!, the third year felt the need to congratulate herself. Taking a deep breath, Gwen pointed her wand back at the frame, and said: ‘Reverto!’

*blink- blink*

The frame was still almost the same. It just looked as if the top part would tear apart easily, just like a piece of paper. Nice going…, she told herself and decided to try using the last spell again. ‘Reverto!!!’ Come oooon- why won’t you turn back?! Grr. ‘ReVERtoo’, Gwen said once again, actually starting to get upset. ‘Reverto!’, she said and was relieved to see that it worked. YES!

Lewis had simply been taking notes for last couple of minutes, trying to keep up with what the others were saying. Not that he hadn't already known most of it but still. Maybe Professor Magnus would want to know EXACTLY what each of the students had said in her class for the exam. Who knew?

Placing the picture he had brought onto the desk next to the piece of paper, Lewis looked at it for a moment. Was it weird that he had brought a picture of himself? But he hadn't known what exactly they would be doing with it - this was TRANSFIGURATION class after all - so he hadn't wanted to bring one that meant something to him. And he didn't exactly have a multitude of photos with him in the first place. So this one it was going to be.

Aw. They were going to make a picture frame? That was pretty cool. He watched closely as Professor Magnus performed the spell and nodded slowly to himself. Right. Once she was done, he started off by muttering the incantation a couple of times to get a feeling for how it was pronounced. "StatUA HABitum. StatUA HABitum. StatUA HABitum." It was pretty long. But not that hard to say.

He didn't think he was going to practice the wand movement so instead he reached for the piece of paper, holding it up a little. Right. Now. Just say the incantation and draw a square. Directing his full attention and concentration at the task ahead of him, Lewis drew a square on the piece of paper with his wand while at the same time saying, "StatUA HABitum!" And it had worked!

Or at least mostly. The picture frame he was now holding wasn't the black normal one he had wanted but it was close enough. Well, it was a picture frame so there. Hoping nobody had seen him holding it, Lewis quickly pointed his wand at it again and started to say "Rever-". He was however interrupted by a loud sneeze and then a voice asking for help. Huh?!

Turning in his seat to see what had happened, Lewis' eyes fell on a Hufflepuff girl backing away from a piece of paper, flying in the air. Now that he took a closer look at it it looked a lot like...mouth?! His eyes flickering to the professor for a moment, Lewis got up from his seat and pointed his wand at the strange flying paper. "Finite!" Hopefully that would work.

If not it seemed they were all going to be eaten up by a piece of paper today. NOT the way he wanted to die.

Kurumi hovered her wand over her piece of paper. Now that Jezz seemed to be situated with her spell work, there was less chance of a bouncing ball to come bounding across the table and knocked it off the desk again. Nothing Reparo couldn't fix of course, but Kurumi would rather not have to deal with the sound of shattering glass if it could be avoided. Kurumi traced a square in the air again, repeated the incantation, and her glass frame was back. THIS time, she set it on its side, flat, on the desk so that it couldn't get knocked over. You know, just in case.

Breathing a sigh of relief that the melting of objects was becoming less and less of a thing, Kurumi glance to her right.

Since when had Howlers been white?! Not to mention when in Merlin's name had an owl been in the classroom to deliver it? Unless...was that her piece of paper? She had heard a rather loud sneeze earlier that very well could have been Nessie...and would certainly explain why her paper was chomping at the bit to get to know the Puff now. Hehe.

Leaning over her seat, Kurumi took careful aim with her wand. "Revert---" But Lewis was already on the move. Badger loyalty right there.

"'Stat-ua WHATTA?'' Daichi failed to hear incantation precisely and he now had to look around to here the students say it. "Stat-ua-babba.." no that didn't sound right. "Stat-ua Habilum!" oooh that was right , right? Daichi''s eyes twinkled with excidement when he thought he had the incantation right and grabbed his wand.

"StatuaHabilum!" he shouted while tracing a squar around the piece of paper. Of course , nothing happened. Nothing even exploded which was a compliment for him. Pouting and running a hand through his hair , he tried again. "Statuahabilum!" fail again. "StatuahabiLum...statuahabiLum!"" the Slytherin was now moving his wand so frantically due to nerves that sparks erupted from the wand and it weren''t the sparks he saw from the other students. He closed his eyes tightly shut and was ready for an explosion when...

nothing happened.

Sighing loudly, Daichi dropped his wand back on the table and leaned against the chair. What was he doing wrong?! Still pouting, the third year listened and listened and that''s when he noticed where he had done wrong. He had used an L in the incantation instead of a T!

"'Statuahabitum~" he said without touching the wand. "Statuahabitum...statuahabitum..." NOW it was right, right?

Pulling up his sleeve, Daichi grabbed his wand again and traced the piece of paper in a square. "Statuahabitum!" He saw something glowing but then it vanished and the paper hadn't transformed...or whatever it was suppose to do. "Statuahabitum!" nothing. "Statuahabitum!" ..... Why was it that a THIRD year couldn't even do this?! It was so unfair to see younger students than him succeed.

Maybe he wasn't magical at all and there had been a mistake in his first year? O__o
''P-Professor?" he stuttered as he raised his hand in the air. ''It's..it's not working...'' he felt sad now.

Leaning over her seat, Kurumi took careful aim with her wand. "Revert---" But Lewis was already on the move. Badger loyalty right there.

It was comming closer and closer, and Ness kept on taking steps back, but it wasn't exactly helping as she couldn't go back much further. She was at the verge of wantingto scream, but she knew that it wouldn't be necassary as it would just attract more attention and it would embarrass her even more. She bit her lip and stood still afraid of what would happen.

Then it hit her, she had a wand and she could of used it, she attempted to lift up her wand, but she was sort of frozen and she couldn't move, so instead she continued looking at the piece of paper in horror. This was it, this was..the..end...or maybe it wasn't.

The paper had almost reached her and she could feel it barely touching her face. That was when she heard them, her rescuers. With their counter spells they both attempted to fix the paper that was very much alive. . and just before the piece of paper could reach her, it stopped moving and it fell to the ground as though it was dead. Ness looked at the paper and then at her rescuers.

"Um..um..thank you." she said to them both, still a little shakey. She turned her eyes back to the piece of paper that was on the floor. It looked scary even though it was back to normal now, she was afraid of it and she took a few steps away from it. She didn't want it to come back to life again that would have been terrifying. To be honest, she had become a little traumatized now.

After practicing with his twig, Nate felt fully confident with the spell. Time to take things up a notch. Carefully, he drew a square on the paper before him, about an inch from each edge. That part had to be just about perfect, or Nate would have started over. He liked things working out on his part...

Picking up his wand from the desk, Nate traced over the square he had drawn and focused hard, saying, "Statua Habitum!" Sure enough, his focus payed off, as it usually did in magic. Before him lay not a piece of paper with a square on it, but a blue and bronze frame, decorated like the Ravenclaw common room and adorned with the house crest on the left and the motto, "Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure" on the right, written in engraved calligraphy in the metal of the frame. As if Nate wasn't impressed enough by how the spell's results had outdone his imagination, the frame was also the perfect size for his picture, and he hadn't even thought of that much!

Satisfied, Nate sat back a little in his chair and admired the frame. He was careful to leave the picture itself alone, though. One could lose house points if one wasn't careful, and it wouldn't help a House with negative twenty-two points if he were to lose more.

"OK", Alex thought. I'll take this one step at a time. She decided to practice the incantation alone first. "Stat-UA HAB-itum, Stat-UA HAB-itum". She concentrated on visualizing the picture frame. "Now I'll try the movement", Alex whispered to herself. She moved her wand silently tracing a square. Then combining both parts she repeated, "Stat-UA HAB-itum". The paper gave a little rustle and then.....nothing. "I guess I have lot of practicing to do", Alex said a little dejectedly.

Beezus was marveling at her new transfigured piece of paper which was now a sequined picture frame. It would surely suit the picture that she brought with her. If Professor Magnus would allow them to bring it then she'd place it on the table beside her bed. Erin would be delighted for sure.

Just then, she heard someone gawking and squacking behind her. When she turned around, she saw that it was Daichi. Honestly, she hadn't taken note of those people around her, she was too engrossed on doing the activity. He seems so stressed. Whatever the reason, she was still to find out. "Daichi, what's the matter?" Beezus asked.

Remember that. ;)

As the answers from everyone started pouring in, her notes started to multiply, one piece of information at a time until she moved on to the next page, and the page behind that. Soon enough, Professor Magnus finished explaining everything and all that was left was the actual spell casting.

Oh dear, Merlin. Here goes nothing.

She watched as Professor Magnus demonstrated the spell, drawing a perfect rectangle with her wand and watched as the piece of paper turned into a picture frame right before her eyes. Oh dear, would she be able to pull that off? Hopefully, she wouldn't set anything on fire or something.

"Stat-UA HAB-itum" She said, it sounded right. She decided to repeat it, you know...just in case. "Stat-UA HAB-itum....Stat-UA HAB-itum"

The Slytherin looked around and watched as the others drew rectangles over their paper while holding it in front of them. Alright, she could do this! The blonde held her paper in front of her and drew a rectangle over it with end of her wand while saying "Statua Habitum!"

But...nothing happened. Well, wasn't that awesome?

She tried again, one more time, twice, thrice...until what seemed like the fifth time, she watched as the paper transformed into a frame...but, it was still paper. Just with a perfectly cut rectangular space in the middle...big enough for her picture. Not bad...not what she had in mind, but not bad.

"Reverto" The fifth year muttered as the paper reverted back to it's previous form. Then she sighed and drew the rectangle over the sheet one more time while saying "Statua Habitum!" concentrating as much as she could. Then, as if by some miracle it had transformed into a frame! Although, it did look kind of square though.

"Professor, my frame looks a bit...square, is that alright?" She asked, oh. She hoped it was fine. It was a rather pretty one and yeah..

Wait, what if she wanted a circular frame? What was she going to do?

Lewis watched as his spell seemed to have a) hit target and b) actually seemed to stop the rogue piece of paper too. It had fallen to the floor and was now just lying there like, well, like a piece of paper. Which it was. He still hadn't quite got how in the world the girl had managed to make the paper do that in the first place.

"What did you DO?!" He voiced his thoughts before he could stop himself, his eyes still fixated on the paper. Finally looking up he glanced at the girl who was saying her thanks, still looking slightly shakey. But she wasn't only looking at him. Huh. Turning around Lewis followed her gaze and found himself looking at Kurumi who was also watching them with her wand pointed at the girl.

With a quick smile for the Prefect, he turned back and was already on his way back to his seat - trying to hide the picture frame behind his back - when his eyes fell on the Hufflepuff girl again. "You okay?" Lewis inquired softly, his brow slightly furrowed. She WAS in his house after all.

Daichi had tried to use the spell one more time and when nothing happened he gave up. He looked around to find others having already gotten a frame and a hint of jealousy rushed through him. Sighing, the Slytherin turned back to look at his still normal piece of paper and it was then that he heard his name.

Looking back up, his first reaction was to look at the Professor, thinking that it had been her. But found out that it was Beezus. He frowned and a little pout formed on his lips as he leaned forward. "It's not working" he said. "I just want to perform a spell without messing it up!" uhoh he was getting emotional... It's not working? Well..he wasn't the only one who had trouble doing it because she also had issues a while ago. That piece of paper even turned into a banana peel! A BANANA PEEL!

Sighing, she rested her right arm on Daichi's desk. She wanted to help the Slytherin because well.. it was the first time she had seen a snake act like this way and she just felt sorry for him. Not to mention that he looked so cute with that pout. "Why?" She absolutely asked the obvious. "I mean..have you err--practiced already the wand movement?" Because that was pretty important. "Or the incantation?" That was her usual problem, incantation.

Ella looked around as several students had already turned their paper into picture frames. She glanced at the picture she had brought to class with her, it was a family photo. One where her grandfather was still alive. Pops, this one is for you. Ella was determined to get this spell right. First she needed to know how to say it correctly. "Stat-UA HAB-itum...Stat-UA HAB-itum....Stat-UA HAB-itum...Stat-UA HAB-itum!" That last one had sounded the most like the professor's spell so she decided to put it to use. She held her wand and focused on the paper. She slowly traced her square above it and with a wince said "Statua Habitum!"
The paper had moved a little but nothing had changed. "Humph." Ella was disappointed but not discouraged. She looked around. She wasn't the only one struggling and she figured it was normal not to get it on the first try. She smiled at Charlotte who was working next to her and then focused once more on the paper. She took a deep breath and tried again. She traced the square more calmly this time and then in a controlled voice, "Statua Habitum" What was this?! The paper was no longer there and in its place was a lovely picture frame. "Merlin's beard..." Ella whispered. She had done it, she had actually done it.

Eh? Wot?

Eh?

Tom had been off in his own little world sitting there doodling away and thinking about something totally unrelated to Transfiguration. He wanted to learn, but just found himself drifting into daydream land as soon as things got even just a little bit complicated; doodling instead of making notes which would be illegible and unreadable when he went back to look at them later so he saw very little point. Who cared about theory anyway? Lets get to the magic already!

He looked up as there was movement around him and realised they'd got to the practical part. His cheek found it's way between his teeth and he looked around anxiously to see what everyone else was up to. He'd always been good at copying – a way of compensating for his dyslexia. It looked like they were turning parchment in photo frames? He looked back down at his parchment which was now covered in little drawings and he frowned deeply.

'Crud.'

He looked over at his friend Nessie with a slight panicked look in his eyes. Did it matter that his parchment was now covered in dragons and unicorns and other weird magical creatures he found fascinating now that he knew they were real and not stupid crazy muggle myth??

SCAB---Wot the 'ell woz she sayin'? Why were incantations so blaady 'ard to say??

Urgh... He scowled and looked away and back to his parchment, deciding it was better to look like he was actually doing something than looking lost. He picked up his wand.

“S-scab—um... scab-UA-hab... um..”

*sigh*

Hearing a commotion, he looked up again, his eyes widening when he saw Nessie abiut to be attacked by her parchment. He knew that fire spell--Lexi Denver had been a really good tutor... but another boy stepped in and saved her without the need for any pyrotechnics. Lewis wasn't it? The scared Hufflepuff boy from the lake.

He turned his attention back to his parchment, drawing his wand in a square shape and hoping for the best..

Right. So, Sierra pretty much had the incantation down now. There was really no point in continuing to say it over and over when there were other parts of the spell she hadn't moved on to yet--like that square formation she was meant to do above the piece of paper. She wasn't exactly sure how her tracing skills were, especially in such an odd formation for wand movements, but the professor made it look easy enough.

Sierra pointed her wand toward the piece of paper and practiced moving her wand around and around in the same formation the paper made. She got outside the lines sometimes, so her square wasn't exactly four straight lines and four square corners, but it was getting close enough. There were so many distractions around the room, though. Sierra's gaze traveled over to Kurumi Hollingberry. Why did the girl always have to play the hero?! Couldn't she ever just mind her own business?

See, this was what made Gryffindors so annoying...

Sierra sighed and turned back to her paper. She made the square formation above it a few more times before deciding she was ready to start putting it all together.

"It was very nice, thank you for asking, Selina," Isabelle smiled at the girl and got up from her position perched on her desk.

Stepping forward a couple of places, she waved her wand lazily in the direction of the board, making the chalk shoot in the air and write her name. "Good morning everyone! Placing her wand back in her pocket, her hands followed and she stood, relaxed, and smiling at the assembled group. Vlimia was quite excited, since she loved the idea of Transfiguration. Upon hearing the instructions, she dug her unframed photo of her little sister out of her bag, and put it on the desk. The definition of Transfiguration... she had read something somewhere... Vlimia raised her hand, and said "Well proffesor, Transfiguration is a branch of magic that focuses on the alteration of the form or appearance of an object, via the alteration of the object's molecular structure. Transfiguration can be done to most, if not all, objects. Currently, transfiguration is divided into four branches. They are: Transformation, Vanishment, Untransfiguration and Conjuration." Vlim replied confidently. She had memorized a few passages from quite a few books, and had found that it helped her a great deal in classes.

Gwen glanced at the photograph she'd brought with her. In it were her mother and father, standing side by side with their arms around each other's waists, occasionally looking at one another and smiling. Her older brother Henry was to his mother's right, holding his beloved broomstick, a Firebolt, and running his hand through his dark hair from time to time. Gwen's younger sister Jasmine was in the middle, both hands pushed deep in to the pockets of her dress and staring directly at the camera with wide, angry eyes, her usual glare. She hardly moved, and when she did, it was only to glower up at her parents in a way that said, "Why are you making me do this?". Gwen was to her father's left, holding her cat Pickles in her arms and beaming. Pickles was squirming impatiently in her arms and once in a while Gwen gave him a kiss on top of his fluffy head.

Tearing her eyes away from the photograph, Gwen took out her wand and practiced the wand movement. Then she put down her wand and practiced saying the incantation.
Finally, she picked up her wand again, pulled the piece of paper to her and tried the spell.

"Statua Habitum," said Gwen as clearly as possible, tracing a square on the paper. Before her eyes, it transformed in to a frame. However, it was still made of paper, kind of like an elaborate origami frame. Really? she thought, a little disappointed. Oh well, it had only been her first try. "Reverto." And once again it was a sheet of paper.

Gwen tried the spell again. "Statua Habitum." This time the piece of paper actually transfigured itself in to a frame! Gwen couldn't help smiling as she picked up the frame. It was a square and made of wood, with some lines carved in to it. It was simple, but hey, it was still a frame.

Magical Soul 01-10-2012 04:32 PM

practicing a bit

Louisa was scribbling down what the professor had to say about the paper and... what? They were doing a picture frame? COOL! SO much better than the clowning thing last term, that put Louisa's self-esteem on the edge for full two hours... which felt like a couple of decades considering WHO she'd spent them with. HOWEVER, no more bittersad memories, she was going to enjoy Professor Magnus lesson today.

Looking down at her picture in Brazil that was stuffed in her bag, the fifteen years old was beyond glad that she didn't bring some pathetic family photo. Her picture this summer was worth the framing more. Especially magical framing, that was epic cool. Yep. She was loving Magnus so much.

Clearing her throat and putting down her wand, she started reciting, "Statua Habitum..Statua Habitum..Statua Habitum...Statua Habitum...Statua Habitum..Statua Habitum.." over and over and over again... the wand movement should be easy, tracing a square. They made sure to teach her how to do that back in nursery, thank you.

Anna Banana 01-10-2012 04:37 PM

Sierra took a deep sigh and let it out slowly, preparing herself for putting together everything they'd learned and, hopefully, creating a picture frame. She guided her wand back above the piece of paper then started to make the same square formation she'd been working on. "Statua Habitum!" she said, just as she finished the square.

She heard that same popping sound she'd heard when the professor had done the demonstration. Only, the result of Sierra's casting didn't exactly turn out the same as the professor's. She peered down and saw one straight piece of a picture frame and three very uneven pieces with parts of paper jammed in between them. Had she really been that far off on her tracing?

With a sigh, she pointed her wand toward the mess. "Reverto!" she said, and the mess of a frame changed back to a piece of paper.

Kurumi was a little disappointed that they were not going to transfigure origami, but there really wasn't any connection with the art and bringing an unframed photograph to class. Oh well.

Kurumi smiled. "If you put too much pressure on yourself you won't be able to concentrate as well." Speaking from experience here, for sure.

Isabelle had been walking around the room, making sure everyone was doing as she had asked and not just launching themselves into trying the spell. It was important to make sure you could say the incantation properly first, but some of the younger ones seemed intent on rushing things.

It was good to see the prefects helping with that though. Issy smiled as Kurumi went about trying to convince a young first year that she could do it. Moving over to the two of them, she smiled at the young one as she tried to do it - and surveying the slightly chaotic scene of broken glass. Returning the nod the Gryffindor gave her as she cleared up, Isabelle crouched down by Jezzabelle. "You know, Kurumi is right. Just relax your muscles and your mind to start with. If you get too worked up about things it won't work as well as you want - as you found out just then," she vanished one of the balls that was still bouncing down by her foot. How on earth that happened she didn't know. "And please, don't be afraid to ask me for help if you need it. I won't bite your head off for not being able to do a spell."

Giving her another reassuring smile, Isabelle moved on to the question the prefect has asked her. "Well the lines themselves don't need to be perfectly straight, I mean most people's hands falter a little when trying to draw a straight line, but for the spell to work accurately the wand movement does need to be a square, yes. Otherwise the frame will be deformed, or......be something else entirely..." How DID that happen?

Almost sound like something from pre-historic era, whatsoever. Suddenly, a question struck Hades' mind and he shot his hand up in the air. "Professor!" called the blonde Slytherin as he waved his hand to get the professor's attention. "Does it need to be square? I mean, if I want to make a circular frame, should I trace according to the shape I chose?"

Ahh, good question young grasshopper.

Isabelle moved off towards the other side of the room when Hades asked his question. "The wand movement remains the same, it's your intent and focus that changes. The end result is dictated by the image you fix in your mind as to what you want it to be. By all means try and produce a circular frame, the result doesn't need to be square."

As she was talking to Hades a piece of paper suddenly flew past her head, making Isabelle jump. Snapping her head in the direction it had gone, she flicked her own wand to stop it in it's tracks. Summoning it to her she looked around for a desk that was missing a piece, or a frame, and noticed just one.

"I think this belongs to you," she smiled, placing it back on the Ravenclaw's desk.

What on earth was it with students sending things flying in this lesson? No sooner had the piece of paper been dealt with than Isabelle heard the word DUCK. She turned to see what was happening and saw a student diving for the wand that had shot across the room.

"Are you alright over there?" Issy called.

Oooh, another question. Good.

"When you transfigure something you need a clear image in your mind of what you want to turn your original item into. That's why everyone will have a different end product, because they are thinking of different things. You run the risk of getting something you don't want if your concentration wavers."

And more chaos. This lesson was certainly more...lively...than she had planned. So much for a nice easy start to the term.

As a piece of paper started attacking a Hufflepuff, Isabelle got her wand out ready to cast 'Finite' when another 'puff got there first. Nodding approval, she walked over to the girl who had cast the original spell. "Thank you," she said to the boy as she passed him, giving a a grateful smile. "Now, are you alright? You're more than welcome to take some time to compose yourself before carrying on."

YES!

After making sure the Hufflepuff was okay, Isabelle moved over to the next person who asked a question. Smiling she shook her head. "The wand movement doesn't impact on the outcome of the spell in that way. It has to be a square, yes, but that doesn't mean the frame does. How it looks is completely up to you. Your concentration and intention are what changes the look of it. As long as you keep a clear final image in your head, and perform the incantation and wand movement correctly, then it will turn out the way you want."

"StatuaHabilum!" he shouted while tracing a squar around the piece of paper. Of course , nothing happened. Nothing even exploded which was a compliment for him.

Isabelle coulndn't help but smile at Daichi as she watched him try, and try, and try to get the spell right.

"Daichi, just calm down. Now, the spell is in two part, not all one word. Repeat after me...'Statua Habitum'," she said the words clearly and enunciated. "Don't panic. You will get it eventually."

"Square, round, even triangle - it really doesn't matter. As long as you picture what you want in your mind, and do the required parts of the spell correctly, you will end up with what you want." Isabelle smiled at the Slytherin as she moved up to the front of the room.

Clapping her hands to get their attention, she waited a second to make sure all eyes were on her. Flicking her wand at the board the eraser removed the words already on it and replaced it with the spell they were learning.

Minerva put her hand up. "Well Professor the words are Latin I think. I'm not that great at Latin but Statua means statue or image, right? Then Habitum means I think hold. So does the spell me to old an image?"

Autumn watched The professor so carefuly.
Damn! they won't be doing something horrible to the picture..But she had brought a back up.. she ripped her previous picture upped and dove into her bag for her other one. It was her best picture of her, she had it done professionally and they made her look so magical in a amazing garden full of roses!
She picked up her wand and the paper she traced a square on the paper, easy enough!

" 'Stat-UA HAB-itum' 'Stat-UA HAB-itum' "
she picked up the paper and placed it in front of her as she drew the square and simmiltanously said " 'Stat-UA HAB-itum' " It turned into the most beautiful frame! Gold with purple butterflies and ivy decoration, perfect for the picture! That was amazing!!.

Tayla stared at the frame on her table. It still didn't look as pretty as Professor Magnus', but it was a little nicer now. She heard the professor tell the other students to imagine what they wanted the object to transfigure to, so she tried that. Blue being her favourite colour, she wasn't surprised to see the blue frame on her desk.

She understood what the professor said about pronunciation. Tayla did struggle with it at first, and in fact still did especially when she wasn't concentrating well.

Hearing Professor Magnus' question, she raised her hand and said "Professor, I believe the words are in Latin. 'Statua' probably means 'statue'. While 'habitum'....I'm not so sure. Maybe it refers to the appearance or the shape?" Tayla was making a guess, but she hoped she was at least close to correct.

"You're welcome!" Lewis replied happily, as the professor walked past and thanked him for his help. SCORE! One more professor who seemed to like him. Transfiguration was definitely going on his favorite-classes list now. Right there after Charms. And Potions. But then, it was RIGHT THERE at the top!

Back to the theoretical part of the lesson. Lewis quickly took a seat again, and realizing he was still holding on to his PINK picture frame, he put it on his lap. He would get rid of it later. Or you know, revert it back to its original state. As long as nobody saw it, he was good.

YESLANGUAGES! Lewis almost bounced in his seat as he raised his hand to answer the question. Almost. He managed to control himself a little. "It's Latin, Professor. I think, habitum comes from the word habere which means to have, possess or regard. And Statua means statue." Yes. He wasn't quite sure what either of those two words had to do with picture frames but you know.

Poolicious 01-10-2012 05:35 PM

He didn't quite manage to transfigure his piece of paper into photo frame earlier. So, Messer decided to give it another try. He traced a sqaure shape over the paper then began performing the spell. "Stat-UA HAB-itum'" Again nothing happen. He frowned. Once again "Stat-UA HAB-itum" And to his surprise the paper turned into a very simple photo frame. At least he managed to transfigure the paper.

The eleven looked up when Professor Magnus asked them a question. He raised his hand up in the air "Is it Latin, Professor?" Because most of the incantations were in Latin. "I think the word statua mean statue in Latin and Habitum mean..." Umm.. "Maintained perhaps." he shrugged.

Bazinga 01-10-2012 05:40 PM

Minerva decided to try again. She traced the paper as a square "Stat-UA HAB-itum" the picture frame popped up nicely this time. She smiled at her frame.

The third year tossed back her dark hair, getting annoyed. If this piece of paper didn't start cooperating, she was going to get aggressive. Bubbles had now began to emit out of her wand tip also. Face palming, Thea took a deep breath. After practising the spell and doing the wand movement in the air, she had felt ready. Now however, she was a bit unsure. The piece of paper kept moving for one thing, and she had no idea why or how it was doing this..

Looking up for a moment, she spotted Daichi getting frustrated across the room. Biting her lip, she looked down. He had help. The kid was fine.
Frowning, Thea went back to her practising.
'Statua Habitum..' the third year spoke clearly, but not too loudly. This seemed to do the trick. Before her sat a delicately decorated glass frame. Smiling slightly to herself, she ran a finger along the intricate designs of flowers and vines. It was a pretty frame. Not too bad for a third year.. Mwahaha.

Popping her wand down onto the desk, she looked up. Raising an eyebrow, she was disappointed when she had no clue what the answer was to this question. Boo. Raking a hair through her tousled mane, Thea settled down to take some notes.

LuLu's raised into the air, She knew Latin when she heard it and it was obvious it was mentioned in alot of classes and in every spell book there is! ''I believe it's Latin, Proffeser! The habit of the statue... To be exact,'' Which made sense statue and the habit of she ehh didn't get that part but still

She stared at her parchement again ''Stat-UA HAB-itum,'' It worked this time! Actully worked!!!! YAY!! She smiled at herself looking at the wonky frame.. Oh no..

Ira's first attempt had gone completely wrong. So she tried again. She wasn't the one to give up easily!

She looked over her notes once more:
SPOILER!!: Ira's Notes

Paper to Photo frame
Spell: Statua Habitum (Stat-UA HAB-itum)
Wand Movement: trace a square or any other shape above the object you are changing

Reverse Spell: Reverto

She closed her eyes and concentrated on the image of the photo frame she wanted, in her mind. Then, tracing a square on the paper in front of her, she muttered, "Statua Habitum" clearly.

And then opened her eyes to see the result. And Lo! there was her desired photo frame

FireboltAvis88 01-10-2012 06:29 PM

Alyssa thought for a while repeating the words before she raised her hand,"Professor could the words 'Statua Habitum' be latin based? Could Statua mean image or statue, while Habitum means to hold or to possess?" Alyssa hoped that her interpretation was correct

Nora was glad when the professor told them they'd take a break from the practice, no matter how short, because she didn't like that the spell wasn't working yet. She knew she'd just have to keep practicing.

"It comes from Latin," she said when she raised her hand, thinking of what it meant. She shouldn't have raised her hand. "I think statua might mean statue or... to stay?" Uhm... "I have no idea for habitum, though." Or at least nothing that would actually make sense.

Ira looked at the professor, as she suggested a break from practicing. That was good. But then she asked a question. No, that was not good!

Still, Ira raised her hand up, though not wanting to answer but having to since she had been quiet until now, "Professor, I think it sounds like latin.. And so if it is in latin, then 'Statua' in latin means 'Statue' in English" But what about Habitum? Ira didn't know what that meant. So she decided to say the same, "I don't exactly know what Habitum means professor!" But then she decided to at least guess it, she continued, "But I think it means 'to have or to hold'" Atleast she had tried, right? That was important!

SilverDragon 01-10-2012 06:32 PM

She did it! She actually managed to turn the paper into a picture frame! It took her six tries, but she did it. Although, it still could use some work. The frame was a dark brown wood with a simple leafy vine pattern, just like she imagined it, not bad for a first year. Maybe transfiguration would turn out to be one of her better subjects.

Silvia looked up to the front when the professor called their attention. She raised her hand. "I think it's in Latin, though I don't know what it means. But statua sounds a lot like statue."

Nessie was eternally gratefull to this guy and if it wasn't for him should have been eaten by paper, it did sound pretty ridiculous but seeing as magic was involved anything was possible. She looked at the older boy again and sort frowned when he asked her what she did. Did he not care whether she was alright or not? Well he didn't really know her and she sort of didn't blame him if he after all didn't. "Um, I don't know I think I sneezed." she said with a completey serious face..if she wasn't as traumatized as she was she might have laughed, because it did kind of sound funny.

Was she okay? Her lips formed into a pout as they usually did when she started to think about anything. "I think I'll be fine" She wasn't exactly alright just yet, but she knew she would be in the end."...eventually" she added because it did feel like it was going to take her a while to recover. "I owe you big time" She honestly did, because he had after all saved her and so did Kurumi. "Actually I owe you both big time." she nodded at the two, she'd have to find some way to repay them. Now where were her manners. "Anyway I'm Nessie" she said and then turned to the older boy whom she hadn't met yet.

Merlin, this just kept on getting worse. Nessie sort of hopped the Professor hadn't noticed, that was only because she didn't like getting all the attention over something so humiliating. Well at least she had permission to recover from the whole commotion. "Um..I think I'll be fine, I'll just need a few minutes if thats okay?" She wouldn't recover completely in that amount of time, but she would have been in good enough condition to try the spell again.

Pronounciation? Yeah that was definitely the problem in most situations, especially hers even though she didn't mean to pronounce the word wrong. She may have not been able to cast another spell just yet, but talking and answering she could do. She raised her hand "Professor, isn't it Latin?" most spell incarnations were right?

Feeling some eyes on her, Nessie turned a little and saw Tom. She gave him a little grin and then looked at the piece of paper on the floor once more. She was afraid to pick it up and so instead she climbed back into her seat and took a few moments to relax herself.

After having listened to the Professor talk, Gwen nodded. She actually felt relieved that the square shouldn’t be absolutely perfect. That isn’t so hard, after all…, the Ravenclaw thought. But I’ll definitely manage to do a better one, she told herself and remembered the last picture frame she made, which was rather plain.

Hmm… another queation- let’s see… ‘Latin, of course’, Gwen began saying. All the spells and charms had incantations in Latin, so why would this one make an exception? ‘Statua could be image… or statue... and habitum’, the third year said, and, after making a short break she added: ‘To have?’ Habitum- Habitus- havitus- Have… It made perfect sense to Gwendolyn…

PatInTheHat 01-10-2012 07:03 PM

Leaning forward in her chair, wand weaving slowly between her fingers in a circular motion, she focused on the spell. She hadn't taken out her picture because she didn't need the added distraction, though it probably wouldn't be much of one. Not anymore, and no more that the students were.

The wand movement was simple enough, and didn't require her to practice, but she did repeat the incantation a few times.

"Stat-UA HAB-itum... Statua Habitum..."

When she was comfortable with the incantation, she carefully outlined the paper's square shape with her wand, "Statua Habitum." Her paper fluttered some before transforming into a thin silver frame. While it was bigger than it's original form, the frame was... thinner than what she was originally got for.

Arya wordlessly reverted it, brown eyes flicking up to the Professor. More incantation questions, huh? She assumed the same as the rest of the class, that or ancient Greek, and so left them to continue guessing as she went on with her practicing.

Transfiguration was one of the classes Ariadne genuinely enjoyed, ever since she had practised with Kurumi. This assignment was really interesting, so the girl did her best, being quite quick in nailing the wand movement. The incantation was pretty tricky, but that helped her with the next question: the girl knew she had problems with pronunciation of Latin words, so that must mean only one thing-the incantation was in Latin!

'I think it's Latin, I remember reading somewhere that habere is the verb to have, and statua...sounds a lot like statue or state.' the third year Gryffindor replied.

GinevraWeasley 01-10-2012 07:21 PM

Vlimia had been practicing Statua Habitum, and she had gotten it on her ninth try. Well, that wasn't entirely true. She had gotten a frame that she wasn't entirely happy with on her third try, so she tried until she got a nicer one. Call her a perfectionist, but Vlimia was content with the lovely frame on her desk.
But now the proffesor was asking them to stop practising and talk about the spell's actual meaning. Most spells were in Latin... Vlim raised her hand politely, and when she was called on, said "Well, statua could mean statue," But what did that have to do with a picture frame? "Or maybe set up, or stood up?" Because photo frames had that thing at the back that made them stand up, right? "And Habitum might mean inside. Or even to have." Vlimia concluded, because habitum sounded like inhabit, and that meant to live in or to be inside. And have... started with the same letter. Vlim also had a little hunch that it was have.

Pam looked on the board, worried that she wouldn't be able to do it. She took a deep breath, and looked down at her paper, and then her wand. Before trying anything, she decided it would be a good idea to start by practicing the incatation. "S-AT-ua HA-bitum. Sat-UA HAbitum." Once Pam was satisfied, she took out her wand, and tried it. She pronounced it correctly, and made the square movement with her wand over the paper. She didn't think it was going to work, until the paper successfully turned into a golden frame. Upon further inspection, it was a little bronze-y, but she was satisfied.

Then the teacher spoke up. She thought for a minute. "Isn't it Latin?" It sounded a bit Latin at least.

Justin still was practicing the incantation when the professor began to address the whole class, so Justin put away his wand and paid close attention to what she was saying. Then as she had said they could practice a bit more to become more comfortable he tried it a few more times before taking notes on what some of the older students were answering with.

SPOILER!!: Jezz and Kurumi

Ahh, good question young grasshopper.

Isabelle moved off towards the other side of the room when Hades asked his question. "The wand movement remains the same, it's your intent and focus that changes. The end result is dictated by the image you fix in your mind as to what you want it to be. By all means try and produce a circular frame, the result doesn't need to be square."

What on earth was it with students sending things flying in this lesson? No sooner had the piece of paper been dealt with than Isabelle heard the word DUCK. She turned to see what was happening and saw a student diving for the wand that had shot across the room.

"Are you alright over there?" Issy called.

Oooh, another question. Good.

"When you transfigure something you need a clear image in your mind of what you want to turn your original item into. That's why everyone will have a different end product, because they are thinking of different things. You run the risk of getting something you don't want if your concentration wavers."

Jezzabelle smiled. "I'm just trying not to let anyone done." She never really had anyone to try and prove things to. "And Kurumi is proving to be more right than anyone I have ever met." If it wasn't for the older girl though she'd be a lot more stressed than usual. "I'll just try again later." Maybe after relaxing and getting rid of her stress she'll feel better.

"Statua Habitum is Latin and it means the habit of status," Jezzabelle said raising her. Though she wasn't sure as to how that pertained to what the incantation did.

GoldenSnake 01-10-2012 09:36 PM

“Isn’t it Latin?” Victoria took an educated guess. Because most of the time, the spells are from Latin. Other than that simple knowledge, she doesn’t know anything else more about it.

She did the same as she had before, except, perhaps overshooting how vigorously she needed to point her wand in order to draw the square in mid air. Her wand flew out of her hand and over the students heads, "Duck!" She cried and she slid from her seat and scrambled to pick it up again.

Sophie smiled at Glenn when her friend winked at her. She was having fun, even though her picture frame looked like it was burned. She actually thought that made it look cool! She then jumped on her chair when Glenn shouted and looked around just in time to see the girl picking up her wand again. That was close!

As if Nate wasn't impressed enough by how the spell's results had outdone his imagination, the frame was also the perfect size for his picture, and he hadn't even thought of that much!

Sophie looked around the class and notice a reeeally cool picture frame. She did like details and stuff, and this boy's frame had tons of it! "That's really good!" she said in a low voice, smiling at him. She didn't want to lose any house points for talking, but she couldn't help it, she had really liked his picture frame!

She then heard the question that Professor Magnus had asked. Sophie listened as the other students were giving their answers, then raised her hand. "Couldn't 'Habitum' be 'habitat', professor?"

"I'm fine!" She breathed. Getting her wand and returning to her desk with a red face. She continued practising. This time, she was going to think really hard! "Stat-UA HAB-itum!" She said strongly, picturing her photo frame clearly in her head. Her piece of paper darkened and hardened, taking on a wooden sort of colour then the Professor spoke.

The badger lost her concentration and her piece of paper lay on the desk; a square piece of wood. Not a photo frame like she was trying for.

She honestly had no idea how to answer the question. She bit her lip and thought. Nope, no idea. Wait, yes! She had an idea! She raised her hand, "Is it Italian? Statua mean statue, right?"

Listening to the professor again, Louisa squinted her eyes at the board and nodded to herself, affirming that she was saying it right. However, just to make sure she recited, "Statua Habitum.. Statua Habitum.. Statua Habitum.. Statua Habitum.." Over and over again. Then she grabbed her wand and absently traced an imaginary square without saying the incantation.

Emptying the desk from everything except for the paper, just in case her spell went horribly wrong. Clearing her throat, she started tracing the imaginary square, "Statua Habitum." The paper turned from white to grey. Simply like this.

Furrowing her eyebrows at the paper, she held it and flipped it over several times. "Okay.. that is not a frame." Not at all. With a sigh, she murmured, "Reverto." And the paper was back to it natural color.

Clearing her throat, which seemed to be the hundredth time, Louisa spoke loudly, "Statua Habitum!" Tracing the square on the paper aaaaaand VOILA! A proud smile made its way on the girl's face almost immediately as she put down her wand and held the newly framed paper in her hands. "It's beautiful." Yep, she liked it.

When the professor asked the question, though, Louisa had to put down her masterpiece and ponder over the answer. She wasn't really the brightest in word roots and those stuff, so she just listened to what the others had to say.

Ella had absolutely no idea what language this spell had originated from. She did have a guess as to what it meant, though. "Professor, statua sounds like statue...and habitum means...um..." Ella went blank for a moment and she was sure her face was red like a tomato. "...it must have something to do with holding or keeping the qualities that said statue possesses."

Violet took out her photo and placed it on her desk. Then she took out her wand and said slowly "Statua Habitum" while tracing the blank piece of paper. Instantly a beautiful frame formed around the piece of paper.

Zhenya had a quick think, and raised her hand. "Professor, I think Statua Habitum comes from the Latin Language, and I think it translates to mean Image Holder," she said, indicating to her photo frame. Transfiguration was soon becoming her favourite!

She had in front of her a dark wood photo frame. It was just big enough to hold a small photo, which she had, and the frame itself was nice and thick. The wood it appeared to be made out of had unique textures to it.

Deezerz 01-10-2012 11:26 PM

Kennedy focused on how his picture frame would look and pointed his wand at the paper again. He traced a square in the air and said, "Statua Habitum!"

The paper looked like a frame like last time. Hmm. He pocked it with his index finger and grinned when the frame slightly shook. It WASN'T A FLOPPY FRAME! Woot! Kennedy picked it up and sat it up straight. There. A wonderful piece of Transfiguration art.

He glanced back up when heard Professor Magnus speak. For sure the words had to be Latin, right? Right. He raised his hand and said, "It most likely derives from Latin." RIGHT? "Statua sounds like the Spanish word for Statue, which is probably the same in this language," he said. Being fluent in Spanish it helped Kennedy understand some Latin words at times. "And habitum sounds like habitat...which in this case could mean a place of housing? For example..." This was going to sound weird. "A home for the picture?" There. He said it.

Kennedy put his hand down, trying to ignore his blushing cheeks. It was a ridiculous way to put it, but it was simple...and that's what it sounded to him. His picture needed a home.

Sierra stared down at the piece of paper in front of her, remembering what it'd looked like when she'd practiced the spell before. It'd been almost in the shape of a frame, but it'd been too jagged and still made of paper. Maybe if she concentrated on just how she wanted the paper to look, she'd have better results.

She closed her eyes and pictured a perfectly square frame. It was made completely of wood, and all four sides were perfectly straight. The vision was so clear that she could almost reach out and touch it. When she opened her eyes, she began to trace a square around the paper with her wand. She made extra sure to get the edges as close to perfect as possible. "Statua Habitum!" she said, and then with a quick pop, the frame she'd imagined, just as she'd imagined it, lie before her.

It seemed Sierra had created a picture frame just in the nick of time. The lesson was moving on, and to a part that Sierra always hated the most. She'd never been really good at what she guessed was the Latin language. She only really knew the most common words, like nox and lumos. She only knew those, of course, because they were used in common spells. How in the name of Merlin did all these other kids happen to know random Latin words anyway?!

"I think it's from the Latin language," she said, raising her hand. "It sort of has a resemblance to the other Latin words we use in casting." That part was easy to note, even for someone who didn't know much Latin. "...and I think it translates into 'a place to put photos'. I'm only guessing, of course, but that's my best guess."

The first person to put their hand up got it right. Gold star. If she had gold stars. But she didn't. Just a smile. Which she gave to Minerva.

"If that was a guess, very well done. Taken separately it is image and hold or have, yes." Hence why they were getting a picture frame.

Isabelle smiled to herself when she got the cheery reply to her thanks. Somebody was happy that morning at least. And his answer to her question wasn't bad either.

"Statua doesn't just mean statue though, as I just mentioned to Minerva. It can also mean image, which is how it pertains to this spell. But you're certainly right on the rest."

Oh, this one was good. She had nailed it.

A broad grin spreading across her face, Isabelle nodded at the girl. "That is the exact meaning for this spell, very well done!"

A house for the picture. "It's not habitat, Kennedy, but that is actually a nice way of saying the true meaning. A house for the picture. I like it." Probably even better than the actual translation.

"If we take it literally, that's not quite right - as you'll see when I write it on the board. But as a general way of saying it, that's good, Sierra."

"Image in this case, yes. And have or hold - it could be either." Smiling at Gwen, Issy nodded and made her way over to the board. She felt like writing it down herself this time.

"As you all identified this spell is in Latin, although not all are - so it's best to remember that. And some words can translate with more than one meaning. The ones relevant to this particular incantation I've written on the board for you all to see."

Wiping her hands to get rid of the chalk dust, Isabelle walked back over to her desk and cleared a space in the middle of it. Placing a piece of paper in that space she looked up at the kids and smiled. "Now, we'll be working with the photo's you brought along with you. It is the same spell, and wand movement. But I'm going to show you how it can work differently depending on your intent. However for this to work properly the paper and picture need to be laying flat, so I can't demonstrate the way I did the first time."

Resting her hands on the desk she took a deep intake of breath and licked her lips. "So what I need you all to do is gather round my desk here. You all need to be able to see what happens. Come on up and find a space where you can see the middle of the desk, and the piece of paper clearly. Also - would one of you mind volunteering to let me use your photo? I promise it won't be damaged."

OOC: Last post before bed. I'll take the photo of the first volunteer. ;) Just have your character go to the front and find a space where they can see what's going on. I'll do the demonstration tomorrow, to give enough people time to join this bit - and I'll be asleep anyway. xD Again, no excessive chatter please!

Ohh, it was gathering time! Ellie hopped out of her seat with her picture in hand and hurried to the professor's desk. Being short, she wanted to get a good spot so she could see everything she did. Because Ellie hadn't done so well.

"You can use my photo, Professor," Ellie volunteered, holding the still picture of her mum and dad in front of her.

Lissy Longbottom 01-10-2012 11:48 PM

Alex wasn't too attached to the photo he'd brought--it had been one taken over the summer of him and Cale's dog, Belle--and he was about to volunteer when a Ravenclaw girl beat him too it. Ah well. Pocketing the photo he walked around the front trying to find a spot he liked, and eventually he settled on a spot near the back, making room for people to gather in front of him.

He'd prefer a spot up front but, with his height...best to not obstruct the view of people in the back.

ShadowButterfly 01-10-2012 11:49 PM

She got up and walked to the professor's desk like the was told to do.

TakemetotheBurrow 01-10-2012 11:51 PM

Ella's hand shot up immediately! "Professor, you can use mine!" While she waited for the professor's reply, she walked up to find a spot around her desk along with the other students. She was eager to see what they needed to do next.

The fifth year took note of what was being said and what the professor added to the board about the spell in question. It certainly made sense when considering what the spell actually did or was supposed to do when done correctly. At Professor Magnus' instructions for them to come up to the front, Gideon put his quill down and got up to his feet. The boy obediantly moving as asked. There was no sense in lolly gaging and moving slowly but he did make to allow any younger (and shorter) students room to stand in front of him to see.

He had decided to offer his photo..a picture of his parents in this case to the professor for her to do her demonstration, having brought it up with him. However he was about two paces too slow and kept the photo within his possession. Soon enough he would be working with it himself anyway.

After copying down the notes on the board, Lily stood up and went with the rest of the class up to the desk and found a good spot to watch from. She smiled when a ravenclaw offered her photo to be used, and waited with anticipation for the example.

Amelia had wanted to volunteer her photo, but she had been beaten by her friend, Ellie. So she shrugged and made her way happily up to the front so that she could see the paper on the desk clearly. She wanted to make sure that she got this one right, because even if she had managed to make a passable frame before... that didn't mean she'd do well this time around.

Pam walked up to the desk, along with a few others. Her favorite picture in her hands. She clutched the picture to her chest, hoping she wouldn't destroy it. Pam didn't want her most recent picture of her parents destroyed. Anyways, she watched what the teacher was doing, and was eager to start trying the charm herself.

Bazinga 01-11-2012 12:14 AM

Minerva smiled that her answer was right. She then listened to the professor and went to the front of the room near her desk as she told them. Minerva was excited to do something with the picture she brought. The picture was special to her and she was happy to be using it in her favorite class.

natethegreat 01-11-2012 12:37 AM

Nate walked up to the desk as everyone else did. He found a perfect spot to be in.

OOC. I MISSED THE LATIN *curls up in a corner and cries*

Selina could not believe that she had zoned out in class. Perhaps she was more tired than she had originally thought. The Gryffindor Quidditch Captain had foolishly believed that she was fully rested when obviously- she wasn't. Merlin, all she caught was the Latin on the board and she wanted to scream. How had she missed the Latin? That was her thing and she knew the answer to the exact translation of that spell. Meh.

But Selina did not make any outward signs at being upset that she had been careless enough to not pay attention to Latin, which was still really annoying her and eating away at her soul. She stood up with the rest of her class and filed in toward the front because she was small. Her picture was with her and she beamed down at the snap shot. It was the picture that she and Kurumi had developed last year with them having a pillow fight... good times.

Somnium 01-11-2012 12:52 AM

TAylor found a spot that she can see the desk and demostration.

SilverDragon 01-11-2012 01:01 AM

Silvia walked up to the side of the desk where there was a spot she could see from. She couldn't wait to see what they'd be doing next.

JustAlice 01-11-2012 01:13 AM

Wow.. this lesson is going fast.

Hmm. Transfiguration was not one of Aurora's strong points... After her failure to get anything substantial from her paper she was not confident about the next bit of the lesson. Neither had she known where the spell was from - she had guessed correctly of course, but most spells were Latin (or Greek) so it wasn't exactly difficult. So yes, she was sulking a bit. She picked up her picture of Sebastian and walked up to watch Professor Magnus' demonstration...

Daydreamer11 01-11-2012 01:45 AM

Alex headed toward the Professor's desk. She saw an empty spot near her friend, Silvia and positioned herself next to her. Satisfied that she would be able to see, Alex waited for the Professor to begin.

"That's really good!" she said in a low voice, smiling at him. She didn't want to lose any house points for talking, but she couldn't help it, she had really liked his picture frame!

Nate smiled back at the Hufflepuff girl. It felt good to be appreciated, and he was always proud of his charm work. "Thanks! Hey, I don't want to lose either of us points right now, want to meet up later on in the courtyard? We can talk then," he said brightly. Making new friends was always good.

Ah, yes, now they were gathering up in the front! Nate tucked his wand in his front robes pocket, like usual, and snatched up his picture and frame to bring to the front. Sure, the frame was unnecessary, but it had already earned one complement so far, and why not go for more? Nate squeezed in a little, trying to get to a spot where he could see. Even though he had grown over the summer he was still too short for his own good, which meant he needed a front spot. Luckily, he found one pretty near Professor Magnus, and he eagerly filled it in wait of her demonstration.

BlackWolf850 01-11-2012 02:06 AM

Quentin stood and headed towards the teachers desk, taking one last glance at her frame- she liked it, it looked like it was made of sea foam. There was a thicket of students already there, she squeezed her was through until she had a relatively good view of the desk. Well, it was mostly the back of another students head- but there was some desk she could see.

This was why she hated being short.

"Sure!" she said smiling. Then she turned her head to face Professor Magnus as she spoke.

Sophie got up and walked as fast as she could - not running though - up to the professor's desk. She was really curious about all of this!
