Default The Office of Professor Seren Bentley

Banner by the lovely and amazing sweetpinkpixie.

One of the first things you will notice when you enter Professor Bentley’s office is the aroma, the air is filled with the sweet scent of peppermint tea and flowers. Oh no, you won’t find trowels, dragon dung or dirt in this room, everything is presented in a neat and orderly fashion. The office is decorated in earthy brown tones with hints of pink, green and yellow making the room feel very homey. In summer a light breeze will be drifting through an open window, whereas in the cooler months a fire will be roaring in the open grate fireplace. Behind Professor Bentley’s desk on wall by the window is a large cork board. On this board you will see a collection of photographs of family and friends as well as the occasional note about classes or homework. A new addition to this collection of momentos includes a new photograph, taken just this summer whilst on a trip to Italy. If you look close enough, you might recognise the other person in the photo as Professor Hadley, your Arithmancy Professor. So feel free to come in and take a seat on one of the plush and comfy stools- mind of course you have permission to enter. Don't worry too much about the small bundle of fluff that flits in and out of the room, or lounges at your feet, Caltex doesn't bite. Just be sure your laces are tied, otherwise you might find you wont have any left by the time you leave.

And be careful as you enter... the potted Fanged Geraniums by the door like to play occasionally.

OOC: Please do not post in here until your character has been invited in. To be invited in first please post your character arriving at, and knocking on the door to Professor Bentley's office. Do this in the Outside Professor Bentley's Office (KNOCK HERE) thread.

Upon opening the door at the sound of knocking, Seren peered out over the threshold. Where was this person?

Only then did she realise Beatrice had taken to sitting on her bench. Frankly it was about time sombody used it... she hadn't known anybody to use it all her time at Hogwarts, and it was there the whole time.

"Beatrice dear, so good to see you, please come in, make yourself comfortable," she said motioning for the girl to step inside.

Seren gave a brief nod to the other students waiting at the door. It wouldn't be long.

Now that there was one down, there was still another to go. Jezzabelle, the poor lion cub that was shooed away at the feast. Hopefully that hadn't upset the girl too much.

"Jezzabelle right?" she asked still unsure if her memory was doing her justice.

"Please do come in. How can I help you today?"

Plants! the girl had plants! ... this was always a good sign.

Hearing another knock, Seren excitedly stood to answer it, shooing her slightly bigger 'puppy' out of the way.

"Good morning Louisa," she greeted as she peered at the Ravenclaw...

A Ravenclaw... this would no doubt be an interesting experience. "Please do come in, make yourself comfortable, what can I do for you today?"

OOC TO YOU ALL: You are all welcome to post in the office now! Thanks for stopping by and also don't forget that you're all in the office at separate times. Thank you! XD

Jezz nodded, "Yes I am Jezzabelle, but if you prefer you could call me Jezz. I don't mind either." She carried her plants with up most care into her office. It was beautiful inside and almost reminded her of her bedroom at home, which made her feel more at peace. She took a seat and though about where to begin.

"I am sorry that I had interrupted your meal at the start of term feast. I didn't really want to wait until now because I was so excited and after Kurumi had told me you were the Head of Gryffindor House and the Herbology Professor I knew I just had to meet you, Professor Bentley." After all who better to go to about her lovely plants? They were her world to her, it was a shame she couldn't bring them all.

With a smile, Louisa walked into the professor's office. Her eyes were widened at the unexpected beauty of it. Instinctively, she looked for anything RED that would indicate the new post of THEIR professor. Nothing outrageously smelled of betrayal so far. Good.

The girl stood at the table and put the colorful present box on it. "Thank you," she said quietly, observing the cork board. OH! Is that Hadley? Louisa's smiled widened at this. Hadley did say in her interview with Louisa that Bentley was the closest friend from the staff.

"There's nothing really serious," she started fidgeting with her feet. This was the first time that Louisa allowed herself to get into one of the adult's offices and.. express... her.. feelings. She knew that adulthood tweaked people's personality so that they were unreliable but.. Bentley didn't show signs of unreliability, so this was good.

Clearing her throat, Louisa started again, "I wanted to congratulate you, professor," Even if Louisa was against this whole Mother of the Lions thing, "About being in the... new position you're in and.." She turned around, held the box out for the Professor to take, "I brought you something." A lamp, a T-shirt, a pencil, and a mug. The point wasn't about the presents rather than the Ravenclawness of them. Let's see if she abandoned the eagles completely. SUSPICIOUS look was cast at the box and how the professor was going to react to it.

"Thank you Professor." She said, gave the Professor a warm smile and settled herself on one of the chairs on front of the Professor's table. She missed this ambiance. Yes, she perfectly well did and as well as the Professor who occupied the said office.

"Uhm..Professor Ser--" Swallow. You're not supposed to call her that, she reminded herself. "err..Professor Bentley, congratulations on being the New Head of Gryffindor House." Beatrice said sincerely. Though she found the whole idea not very comforting, she knew that it was best that the Eagles support the Herbology Professor. It won't surely mean that she'd be forgetting about the eagles. Also, as she liked this Professor very much, wherever she was happy, Beezus knew that she would be smiling.

"Jezz... hhmm which do you prefer?" After all she if one could have a choice, wouldn't they take it? Her eyes were still trailing to the two plants in the young lions arms. Plants always excited her... made her curious. Fingers crossed behind her back, Seren hoped Jezz wasn't going to tell her she hated the subject.. and that she wanted to get rid of the little darlings.

Snapping out of her thoughts, she moved around to her own seat and relaxed in its cushions. "No need to apologise, I do not see the harm in being enthusiastic... some of the older staff don't seem to agree though," she said with a wink. Yes, she had just called Vindictus old... and he was. Heck he had taught her at school, that in itself made him oldish. But she still respected him, even if he had been a little grumpy that night. She nodded and smiled, indeed she was the school Herbologist and newly appointed Gryffindor Head of House, and for some strange reason that meant she had reached some sort of cool status with the young lion. Brilliant.

Watching Louisa examing her office was rather amusing. Seren simply sat down and enjoyed the moment. Was Louisa looking for something in particular or simply scanningadmirring her space?

What seemed to be a rather curious yes pleasant visit soon turned somewhat awkwward. If she was honest with herself... she saw this coming. Over the last couple of years she'd grown so close to many of the Ravenclaws, and celebrated with them. But it wasn't as if any of that had changed.

Relaxing the frown lines that had formed on her forehead, Seren offered Louisa a soft smile. "Thank you... though I hope you understand that nothing has changed. I'm still the same person I was a year ago... I just have more responsibilities." She wasn't going to shun the Ravenclaws, or the other houses for that matter. Plus, she wasn't the biased type, so the lions wouldn't be receiving any special treatment or attention in classes.

Taking the gift Louisa placed on her desk, Seren removed the lid of the rather colourful box and set it aside. A smile lifted up the corners of her lips, threatening to disappear into her hairline. "Thank you, they're lovely," she said pulling the items out one by one. Really, trully she loved them. On the inside whe was and would always be a Ravenclaw. Standing, Seren held the blue Ravenclaw shirt to her chest, perfect fit!
"I'll be sure to wear this to the next Ravenclaw match... provided it's not against Gryffindor." There was no way she could do that, that would just be rude and.. well rude. No she would be traumatised and neutral during those matches.

SPOILER!!: Beatrice

After closing the door behind them, Seren made her way to her desk and perched upon her seat. Why was it that the Ravenclaws seemed to be uncomfortable around her? As if by becoming Gryffindors Head of House she's somehow contracted some incurable disease. Where they coming to mourn?

It must be it right?

Returning Beatrice's smile, Seren raised her eyebrows slighty and leant forward in her seat. "Thank you," she started, maintaining eye contact, "I trully appreciate the gesture, but I want you to know, this doesn't change anything. I was a Ravenclaw when I was here at school, and just because I have stepped up to care for Gryffindor, it doesn't mean I care anyless about the other houses... or about you." Because quite frankly, students were students, and they weren't entirely defined by what colour emblem they wore on their robes.
"Please.. feel free to call me Professor Seren, just like you used to. I am still that person.."

Why did they not seem to understand that?

Beatrice swallowed hard after what the Herbology Professor had said. She was hurt. Not because of what the Professor said but she was hurt because somehow those words had pierced through her as if it was aiming to hit her when she was most defenseless.

And now, she was feeling like crying. Tears were in fact assembling already. She was just holding back.

Beezus bit her lip as she bowed her head, "I'm sorry Professor... I was scared to be honest..when I learned that you would be the new Head of the Gryffindor house and.." Without warning, her tears fell down so she immediately wiped them off with the back of her hand. "I'm sorry Professor.....Seren," there, just like she used to.

She knew that she was acting pathetic but at least right now she was able to be true in front of someone she deeply cared about.

"Well I'm more partial to Jezzabelle," the girl said smiling. She liked her nickname, but she loved her full name even more. She had only allowed Jezz be used for those who found her full name a mouthful. She wondered if this would be a good time to discuss her plants. That was one of the reasons she had come down.

"Well, I left without argument because it really isn't who I am." No need to mention in the future she will not be approaching the staff table. Well, now was a good time. "As I said at the feast though, I love plants and I'm really excited for the Herbology class. I actually have a garden and greenhouse at my house that I tend to," she sighed. It was hard being away from her plants even harder trusting her parents to take care of them. "I couldn't exactly leave all of them behind because some of them, like the two I have, require more than just the basics."

Jezz shifted them a little so that the Professor could see them better. In one pot was a multicolored rose bush. One was blue, another red, one purple, one black, a silver one, a brown one, and orange one and three pink ones. In another, there was a heart shaped bud that had yet to bloom in the three years she had it, but Jezz knew that when the time was right it was going to bloom into something amazing and even more magical.

"These were both given to me with strict care instructions. The roses are from a family friend who was big on Herbology as well, and the other was given to me by my grandfather right before he passed away...three years ago." They were her prized possessions. "The roses each smell of something different, my personal favorite being the brown one because it smells like chocolate." She looked down at them and smiled, "and the silver one is my second favorite because it smells of a cool winter night. AS for this one," Jezz said looking at the bud, " My grandfather said it will bloom when the time is right. I'm not sure what into yet but it'll be something amazing to see." And she couldn't wait.

If Louisa's smile was small when she stepped into the office, it was large and shining as Bentley spoke of responsibilities. "That's very... refreshing to hear this." Refreshing was a weird word to use but Louisa liked the way that Bentley was up for responsibility rather than... running away from it. Like her mother would do. Hmph.

When the professor opened the box and started taking them out, smiling at them sincerely. A ring rang in Louisa's head. She was still their Bentley! And the T-shirt! SHE WAS GOING TO ATTEND MATCHES! Louisa's smile grew into a grin, "Oh professor! That's so great!" She caught herself from bouncing on her feet and tackling the beautiful woman. "I was afraid you wouldn't cheer for us anymore." And yes, Gryffindor matches were fine. With a chuckle, Lousia nodded, "Yeah, sure. That's understandable."

Taking few enthusiastic steps backward, Louisa asked way more cheerfully than before, "Professor? Do you think people can change? Even after they became... old?" It was totally irrelevant but the girl needed some reliable answer. From someone who lived longer than any of her friends. And wasn't an obnoxious adult. Bentley was the only candidate. She'd hear the answer and leave for classes. The professor probably had to head out too.

Alyssa stepped through into the office once the door opened for her. She smiled at the Professor. 'Looks like the Professor got some sun during the summer,' Alyssa thought to herself. 'I wonder where she went.' Then Alyssa spotted the pictures on the table and realized that she Professor Bentley had gone to visit Italy with Professor Hadley, her Hufflepuff Head of House.

"Good morning, Professor Bentley. I hope that you had an enjoyable summer." 'Better than mine that's for sure,'Alyssa thought to herself. But she wasn't here to talk about that. "I don't want to take up too much of your time since I know that you must be preparing for our first class, so I just wanted to give this to you." Alyssa lifted up the small basket that she was carrying. "While I was back home, we went to the Poppy Fields and I picked up some Golden Poppy seeds that I grew over the summer. Anyway, I brought back some of the saplings. I was thinking that maybe you could plant them in the greenhouse. I also brought back a stuffed toy dog for Caltex. I got a similar one for Professor Hadley's dog too....and here's one last thing I brought back, a box of peppermint tea bags. I noticed that you love brewing it because I always smell the smell of peppermint in the room. My Mom suggested that I bring you some when I was telling her about it. Anyway, I hope that you like it." Alyssa smiled handing over the basket to Professor Bentley and looking around for the cute puppy that she had played with last term.

'Now down to business, Lyssie.'Alyssa thought to herself. "Uh Professor while I'm here, I was wondering whether it would be okay for me to help take care of the Greenhouse again, just like I did last term. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and after you taught us how to grow the Puffapods last year, I was thinking whether you would teach me how to harvest them this term? I promise to be gentle with all the plants." 'Even the ones that bite back.' Alyssa thought to herself.

Presley danced into the office, pausing to pet the adorable dog that she'd grown accostomed to. "Hey Cal," she grinned, scratching behing his ears. She flopped down into the familiar chair before being invited to sit, but this was not her fathers estate. It was Bentley's homey welcoming office. "Hi, professor!" she smiled cheerily. "I just wanted to stop in and say hello." Then remembering her manners, "I heard you get to be Head of the Lions, congratulations!" And she really did mean it. There weren't any hard feelings about it. It would be a fun and interesting experience for the Herbology professor.

Now that she was faced with her Head of House and Herbology Professor she could not even find the words to speak. So she did the only thing she could think of doing- she stiffly nodded and walked into Bentley's office.

It was no shock to Selina that her Herbology Professor and Head of House had a very stylish and modern office. It was very Bentley in so many ways. She sat down at one of the seats and picked at the sleeve of her robe. After sitting in unrest for about seven seconds she stood up from her seat and looked straight at Bentley, "Excuse me ma'am? I know that I may sound extremely stupid and I apologize for making this awkward but..." Where was the calm, cool and collected Selina now? She was hiding underneath this shell of nerves who desperately wanted to let her Head of House know that she appreciated the faith entrusted to her.

"Ma'am... you have no idea how humbled I am that you chose me to be the Gryffindor Quidditch Captain this term. I know that you had a lot of people to choose from but the fact that you picked me... I just... there are no words. I kept thinking of what I would say to you when I saw you and I had something all worked out... but now I can't think straight. So yeah, underneath all of this muddled mess I just wanted to say thanks a heap for picking me. I promise I will try not to let you down."

Oh good grief! This was not exactly what she had expected. The poor girl was crying. Seren's heart sank into her stomach, her motherly instincts were urging her to hug the girl, but whether or not that was appropriate was another matter. She was a teacher, not a mother... there was a different.
Instead, she leant forward and pat the girls arm gently.
"Sshhhh... there is nothing for you to be scared about, and nothing for you to apologise for, everything's ok."

Using her free hand, she took up her wand and summoned her teapot, always full of fresh, warm, but not hot, peppermint tea. That would make Beatrice feel better right? No more tears?

SPOILER!!: Jezzabelle

"Then Jezzabelle it shall be," she replied grinning. Personally Seren thought Jezzabelle was nicer than Jezz, more feminine in a way.
Ah yes! a gardening enthsiast! this was rather good news, rather good news indeed. "That's brilliant, I look forward to having you in my classes... we can never have enough budding herbologists aorund." And it was nice that some of the students could understand and share her passion for magical (and mundane) plants.

Listening intently and gazing at the plants Jezzabelle had brought with her, she could hardly contain her excitement. "They're lovely specimens, I can see you're doing a fine job caring for them." And indeed a little tender love and care was always important in caring for plants, especially Amo-Securusena or the Lovabud.
"I assure you, when it's ready to bloom, you will be blown away, they are specacularly beautifful darlings. The trick is to give them as much love as you can, genuine love..."

SPOILER!!: Louisa

Refreshing was a weird word to use but Louisa liked the way that Bentley was up for responsibility rather than... running away from it.

Well that seemed to settle things, how Louisa thought she wouldn't support Ravenclaw anymore was still beyond her.
"Oh heavens, I'll always support Ravenclaw, once an eagle always an eagle... on the inside at least." Admirring the pen, Seren slipped it toward her term planner sitting on ther corner of her desk. She usually preferred quills, but the pen had to be tested.

As the topic turned to changing, Seren narrowed her brows slightly. "Hhhmm.. I think it depends on the circumstances. There is always room to change, but noticable changes are usually the bi-product of some significant event in the persons life." Whether that event was tragic, traumatic or simply euphoric or spiritual... change was possible.
"Why do you ask?"

SPOILER!!: Alyssa

"I had a marvellous summer, I hope yours was just as enjoyable?" Seren missed being on holidays.. usually it didn't matter to her, the greenhouses were every bit the holiday she had ever really needed. But things just weren't the same knowing that Aron wasn't too far away, but still out of her reach.

"Oh what a lovely gesture, thank you Alyssa," she said taking the basket and checking out the goodies. The poppies were particularly pretty and they reminded her of him.. again. "They're beautiful, I'll make sure they get a nice spot in greenhouse three."
Seren watched as Caltex's ears perked up. How was it that dogs just knew when they had some business to involve themselves in. Of course he would appreciate the toy, sadly he let the geraniums get to his old one.

"You're more than welcome to help out as much as you like, it is always appreciated. As it so happens we'll be looking harvesting puffapod seeds int he second lesson, so you won't have to wait too much longer." Among other things of course.

OOC: Haha no, these geraniums have ALWAYS been in her office, they're her babies. The ones used for the final were the greenhouse ones.

SPOILER!!: Presley
QUOTE=Presley Black;10856036]Presley danced into the office, pausing to pet the adorable dog that she'd grown accostomed to. It would be a fun and interesting experience for the Herbology professor.[/QUOTE]

Caltex let out a small yelp in greeting, his big bushy tail threatening to attack the fanged geraniums he had his back turned to. Seren gave him a look then pat the side of her leg so he'd move away from the playful plants.

"Well it's a pleasant surprise," she replied, pleased that Presley wasn't avoiding her like the plague, or breaking down and crying in front of her. Rather, the girls cheerful disposition was rather infectious, and soon Seren found it rather difficult to NOT smile.
"Thank you dear, it's a great honour. How were your holidays? Did you manage to talk to your father?"
Seren remembered the conversation they'd had not long before summer break... her heart went out to the girl, she was such a lovely dear, it was hard to imagine anyone not liking her let alone considering the fact that her father might disapprove of her.

Seren wasn't sure what she found the most amusing, the fact that Selina seemed to ahve lost her voice, seemed to be rather nervous, or the fact that she found her voice again. At any rate, she couldn't help but think that somthig had to be done about this.
"Please call me Bentley, or professor... ma'am is far too strange," she said. Ma'am was something she had never gotten used to and it made her feel old.

It was nice to know that the selection hadn't gone to the girls head, and she was rather modest and clearly appreciative.
"Selina, you are very talented young witch, and your skill ont he pitch has not gone unnoticed. You deserve this, and I know I can trust you to lead the lions to victory. All I can ask is everyone do their best, have fun... and try not to get injured." Sure injuries were part of the game, but preferably not for her lions.

"I would actually like to thank you for taking up the position, I know you'll do the title justice."

Jezzabelle smiled and looked back down at the plants she cared for so much. She looked back up and asked, "Is there a place I could possibly keep the plants while I'm here? I really don't feel comfortable having them in the girls dorm," and she imagined horrible things happening if she left them in the common room. "Plus, I can't really provide adequate care in the dorm anyway. Maybe a greenhouse that's empty I could use?" This was the question she had been building up to.

"Why do you ask?"
Grinning widely at the blonde Professor, Louisa nodded chuckling lightly. "I guess so." Yes, because Louisa wasn't highly skeptical of the professor's loyalty an hour ago. Heh.

Soon enough, though, the genuine bright face was nervously smiling as Bentley explained the changing. Circumstances. Significant events. The girl's mind was trying so hard to hide the nervousness to fit those words into the situation of her father. And to make things harder, the professor asked why. Swallowing, the girl blurted out, "N-nothing important really... it's just the...err.. I mean.. my friend." Yes, that was very brave and mature. Lie. "She's.. err.. we had this discussion. I wanted another opinion." Her mouth twitched into a smile, or a grimace, it depends on how observant you are to discover the truth behind that twitching. "Umm... th-thank you, Professor. F-for your time. I hope you find my presents useful." And all.

Louisa started backing away. It would be highly dangerous to be asked more questions, she might slip something out. And that would be a disaster. One hand over the door's knob, and the other clenched nervously by her side. She was still facing the professor for her permission to leave.

She saw the flowers, but made no advances... even though she just LOVED flowers.
Surprised that she didn't have to wait long, Ari smiled when her new Head of House opened the door and invited her in. 'Good day, Professor Bentley!' the girl greeted cheerfully, realizing she shouldn't have been nervous, since the Herbology Professor seemed to be one of the most approachable staff members.

Hoping that the woman remembered her, Ari didn't feel the need to introduce herself-that would've been awkward-so she got directly to the point. 'In fact, I just came here to congratulate you on becoming Head of Gryffindor, and to chat a bit if you're not too busy.' the girl explained. 'Oh, and these are for you.' she added, offering the flowers to Bentley, smiling sheepishly.

Time to shift to another topic correct? She didn't want to look anymore stupid than she was appearing now in front of Professor Bentley. "Anyway Professor, is Professor Lafay really engaged?" That was one of the most sought after news around the school and she was a bit curious, besides it would surely take of her mind from the previous subject.

She then saw that Professor Bentley summoned her teapot and with that, she smiled widely. No more hard feelings.

Presley was glad that Bentley seemed pleased to see her. She knew that Bentley had said she could visit anytime, but it was nice to know she wasn't annoying her yet. Holidays? Presley still had mixed feelings about that whole situation. Most of them good. "I had a wonderful time," she gushed. "Did you know Elliot Morganzo came with me to Egypt? And Luna came with me to Greece, which was a spur-of-the-moment trip last week, but I loved it. And my cousins in Washington have so much fun," Presley babbled on about all of her wonderful vacations, but froze instatnly when she proccessed the rest of the question. Her father.

"Well, I tried," she said honestly. And she had. "He got pretty upset because, you see, He wanted me to skip my third year. I talked to the Headmaster about it, and he thought it was a smarter idea if I didn't, since it's my first year of electives. He told me to talk to him again at the end of this year about skipping fourth. My father was kind of mad about that." Unable to remember if she'd told Bentley about that, Presley related the entire story.

"He says if I'm going to be a Ravenclaw, I might as well be smart." Presley blinked her eyes furiously. She didn't come in here expecting to cry, and she wasn't going to let it happen. As her first day back at Hogwarts, she was delightfully happy today, no matter what.

She pasted a smile back on and shrugged her shoulders. "I was on vacation for most of the summer, so I didn't have to see him much. Really, I just stayed with Leo when I was home." Sort of. Leo lived in London, and her father in Geneva, but what was distance really, if you had floo powder and apparition? "That's enough about me, how were your holidays, professor?

"You're more than welcome to help out as much as you like, it is always appreciated. As it so happens we'll be looking harvesting puffapod seeds int he second lesson, so you won't have to wait too much longer." Among other things of course.
OOC: Haha no, these geraniums have ALWAYS been in her office, they're her babies. The ones used for the final were the greenhouse ones.

Alyssa smiled excitedly,"Oh I'm so glad that we'll be working with the puffapods again. I'll get working immediately on working in the greenhouses after class today."She looked down to see that Caltex was sitting at her feet. She leaned down to pat him and when he lay down scratch him on his tummy. "He has definitely grown since the last time I saw him, but he's still adorable." Alyssa stood up and smiled longingly at the dog. She wished that she could visit Professor Hadley and Bentley everyday just to play with her dogs. Then an idea hit her. "Uh Professor, would it be possible if I could take Caltex for walks? I walk my dogs and my neighbors dogs back home and I would love to help you take him for his walks, especially if you are busy with class or grading papers. I'll even clean up after him." Alyssa hoped that the Professor would allow her to do that. She might even suggest the same to Professor Hadley too.

Selina chuckled when Bentley told her to lay off of all of the ma'am garbage. Honestly, Seilna was shocked that she had even called her that. Ma'am was typically reserved for Lafay whenever Selina was in trouble in that class, which, based on her skill level in potions, was often. She threw a smile out at her Head of House and took a deep breath, "Right... no ma'am. Got it."

When Bentley continued on she beamed at her Professor. She did not have to say all of those lovely things she had just said to Selina. It was really sweet of her and Selina did not exactly deserve the outward proclomation that her Professor was now giving to her. However, like it or not, Bentley had said those things to her and with a very genuine air.

She smirked, "Well, the injury thing I can't exactly control, but I will do my best. As for everything else... thanks Professor. I'm sorry I was so, well, jittery. I just didn't know what to say to you. Honestly, if you ever need me for anything just give me a shout." Maybe they should invest in a dog whistle. Hehe Selina the puppy.

OOC: Yay! *hugs you* ... so you kno the drill yes? Good. You may enter.

Getting up to his feet, he slipped into the office as she stepped past to let him enter. At her question, the fifth year gathered the words he had been thinking in just minutes before.

"Well I wanted to come visit ye," he answered at first, turning to face her once he was inside. "And...to properly congradulate and welcome ye as our head of house." That is outside the hustle and bustle of the feast inbetween the hubbub of the staff table. "I had realized my first response to the news might have seemed a bit hesitant, and I wanted to assure it wasn't because of anything about you Professor...more because of the surprise over Madam Donovan's departure."

Nate walked inside her office. He said "I just wanted to stop and greet you Professor Bently since I didn't get the chance to after the feast. Also I know that I will be good in your class along with all the others." Nate said with a smile. He was also thinking if he would be good at herbology like his dad was. Nate just knew that this would be his favorite subject because he was fascinated by plants and there ability.

"Plus, I can't really provide adequate care in the dorm anyway. Maybe a greenhouse that's empty I could use?" This was the question she had been building up to.

Smiling Seren nodded, "of course... though we don't have any empty greenhouses, but you're more than welcome to keep them in one of them or even in the student garden. Though personally I suggest greenhouse three." Hhmm.. seeing as Jezabelle was an avid gardener, and would likely spend a fair bit of time down here...
"You're more than welcome to use either of the greenhouses or gardens whenever you please, we have cupboards stocked with anything you might need, so you're more than welcome to keep your plants here or practice with some of th other ones." In fact... this was highly encouraged.

SPOILER!!: Louisa

"Uh huh... I see," she mused, though she didn't believe Louisa when she said it was nothing. It was clearly something... but at any rate it was none of her business. "Well if your friend ever needs to talk, then my door is always open."
She watched Louisa curiously, clearly the Ravenclaw was in a hurry to get back to... studying?.. maybe. "I suppose I'll see you in class."

It was so nice to have her lion cubs visit her, and Ari was such a sweet young girl. "Thank you dear, that's so sweet of you," she replied, smiling as brightly as ever. Chat? well of course they could chat. She ALWAYS had time for her students, and especially for her lions. Oohh and flowers! Seren felt her heart melt a bit, oh how she loved flowers. "Thank you, they're beautiful," she said taking them and giving them a sniff. Simply beautiful.

"How was your holiday? get up to anything exciting?" she asked while taking a vase out of the cupboard behind her desk.

SPOILER!!: Beatrice

Time to shift to another topic correct? She didn't want to look anymore stupid than she was appearing now in front of Professor Bentley. "Anyway Professor, is Professor Lafay really engaged?" That was one of the most sought after news around the school and she was a bit curious, besides it would surely take of her mind from the previous subject.

She then saw that Professor Bentley summoned her teapot and with that, she smiled widely. No more hard feelings.

"It's ok dear... but I prefer to see you smiling and cheerful."
It always broke her heard to see people sad or in pain.. and Seren did not deal with sadness or pain very well. She usualy ran from such things.
As Beatrice changed to topic to Lafay, Seren found herself confused. Engaged? Lafay? ... She rarely spoke to the woman, and tried to avoid her at all cost. It's not that she didn't like Lafay, it's just that the woman intimidated her.
"I have no idea," she said simply.

SPOILER!!: Presley

As Presley rattled off names, Sren tried to think of whether or not she ws familiar with them. Unfortunately she was drawing blanks. Not a clue... but that didn't matter, the thing that mattered most was that Presley enjoyed her time abroad. "Well I'm glad you had a good time. Greece is a beautiful place..." which she would have to visit again some time soon.

As for the topic of her father... well Seren would love to give the man a piece of her mind, seriously, though really it wasn't her place.
"Presley, you are a very smart and very talented witch, don't let your father tell you otherwise." At least Presley had her brother, the way she spoke about him, Seren could tell that he was a good man, and a great brother.

With all te talk of travelling abroad, Seren was reminded of her own recent tris abroad. "Oh I had a wonderful summer, spent a few weeks in Italy with Professor Hadley, then visited my mother in Wales and after that I spent a fair bit of time in Australia before retuning here." Her appatment in London had been severely neglected, which was why she was selling it. There was no reason for having a home if you were never there.

SPOILER!!: Alyssa

"Brilliant, that would be greatly appreciated."

Turning her attention to the white ball of fluff, Seren smiled. Yes, he was not a plant, but he was as much a child to her as anything found in her greenhouses. It struck her as sort of strange that Alyssa would offer to eb a dog walker, and it was a sweet gesture.
"Thank you for the offer, but I rather enjoy walking him myself.. it gives me an excuse to leave the office." Aside from her plants of course.

Yeah... the injuriess really were out of everyones control, though perhaps a few defensive flying sessions wouldn't do them ay harm. And of course she would cross her fingers and toes at the games... and cheer the heck out of it. Mmhhmm, Gryffindor would have a pep rally every match... or else.

"I'll definitely keep that in mind, but of course I wouldn't want to distract you from Quidditch.. and your lessons." The last thing she wanted was to put too much pressure on her Captain, Gryffindor had a reputation to restore.

Beezus smiled. Professor Seren did have a very important place in her heart and it was overwhelming to hear those kind words from her. Yes, she was that. Cheerful but she was also soft and she breaks down easily.

Moving on to the Professor Lafay engagement, she noticed that the Gryffindor Head of House wasn't that interested, unlike the students that made that news a big topic. "Hmm.." She murmured, change into another topic?

What, though?

"Errr--Professor, I hope you don't mind..But I really haven't asked you this before." Beatrice started. "But uhmm..." Should she ask her? Now? "Uhm..do you..I mean are you..." Inhale and punch in! "Are you married?"

So far so good. The flowers didn't bite, produce pus or anything like that. They probably were just some Muggle lillies after all. On one hand, Ari thought she should stop worrying so much about everything, but on the other hand the girl decided she needed to be more selective with the flowers she was picking up by hand.

'Glad you like them.' Ari returned the smile. 'Yes, it was pretty exciting. I visited Hawaii with one of my friends and his family, I got to test lots of Muggle things, like scuba diving and taking pictures the Muggle way. I've also had visits from other friends and I've been to France for a whole month with my mum.' And mum's new boyfriend, soon to be husband. But Ari had a feeling that she was talking too much. 'Did you have a nice summer?' The young lioness had always wondered where staff members spend their holidays, but assumed she'd never get to find out. It was none of her business, really.

Since Bentley seemed really nice, Ariadne thought she could afford sharing her worries with her. But not directly. A bit of diplomacy never hurt anyone. 'So, Professor, what are we going to study this year in Herbology?' she asked sheepishly.
