It was such a nice day outside, the weather was mild, not quite warm but not cold either, and it was perfect for the first lesson of the term. Seren stood just inside the entrance to greenhouse two, waiting for the students to arrive. It was fairly dark in here, with creeping ivy curling an crawling its way up the sides of the glass panels, but there was still enough light to see clearly.
Tapping her heel excitedly and stroking the moving tendrils of a nearby ivy, Seren waited patiently for the students to arrive. "Just form a group here please," she said to them indicating to the area just in front of her. Yes that's right... just stand there, no need for sitting just yet, or at all.
OOC: The lesson has officially started, do not announce yourself arriving from this point onward, just pretend as if you've been here the whole time. If you haven't done so already then please read through the Herbology Rules and Expectations and the SS Site Rules. All SS Board Rules apply. IC rule breaking will result in IC punishment, OOC rule breaking will result in OOC punishment. Please behave appropriately and most importantly... have fun. If you have any questions don't hesitate to send me a PM.

Ella tried again to think of a good answer to give the professor. Alright, well if I was a plant and sitting in direct sunlight, I might get burnt...wait a minute!Ella smiled. She wasn't sure if she was on the right track but it was worth a try. "Professor, if these plants were in direct sunlight, would they burn? I mean their leaves? I know I get pretty burnt when I'm out in the sun with no protection."Did I just say that last part out loud?! Ella looked around, feeling like a fool.
"Good morning Kennedy," Seren replied, watching curiously as the Slytherins face turned a light shade of red. Hhhmm. "Congratulations on our prefect appointment, it's well deserved."

OOC: The lesson has OFFICIALLY started, do not post your character arriving late unless you want to lose house points-- just pretend you were here the whole time, also no more chatting please, and DO NOT edit your posts/answers. Feel free to be as creative as you like with your response and I shall continue this lesson in approximately 12 hours.
Kennedy in thanks and went to stand by some students. He really hoped she hadn't noticed his face, that would be embarrassing, and if she did well...it was hot in there. He tugged at the collar of his shirt trying to act like if it. Just in case.
He glanced around the room and raised his hand, but too high. What if the ivy caught it, although, that would be interesting. "Maybe because the plant doesn't need a lot of exposure to light. It could be that it thrives in the dark." he said. "It could also be, that they have a bad reaction to sun. Like in humans, some can't stand in sunlight too much or else their skin gets irritated." That was a bit of a guess, but a bit of truth.
Thinking to herself, Sylia glanced around from face to face as each person started to speak. Flipping the pages of her book, she moved her gaze to whatever page she fell on. She had a good idea of what the plant could be, but she felt the need to wait a bit before saying anything. She was new and didn't want to come off as a know it all just yet. Leave that to Ancient Runes class.
Tucking a haughty tendril of brunette hair, she licked her lips before finally raising her hand. "Since this plant seems to have similar attributes to the Devil's Snare, could it be the Flitterbloom plant?" She turned to look at the plant. If it was non-violent, it had to be the Flitterbloom. Either that or she had lost her smarts. "It has yet to attack you at the touch, so I can only think it could be of that plant." Finishing, she gave a slight smile. Coming off icy hearted the first time she spoke was not something she was trying to convey. Smart, not evil. Leave that to the snakes.
Jezzabelle needed to figure this out. The plant was kind of like Devil's Snare but it wasn't Devil's Snare because it would've already attacked them or at least she's pretty sure it would've. She inched just a little closer the the vine but wasn't sure if she could touch it so she just settled for staring at it. Then she knew what it could be.
She shot her hand in the air, "Is it a Flitterbloom Professor? They look like Devil's Snare but aren't dangerous." Now for the lack of sunlight. "They can become very loyal and can protect the home that they are planted at. Which is probably what it's doing if it was planted here. It's protecting the Greenhouse from the damaging rays of the suns light."

Right... well that was about all of them yes? Good.
After closing the door to the greenhouse, Seren turned on her heel to face the students. "Welcome everyone to the first herbology lesson of the term, for those of you who are returning, it's good to see you... for those of you who are new, welcome I hope you enjoy your time here."
"Now before we start I hope you have all familiarised yourselves with the class rules and I hope you all have your gloves with you. If not, please take this time to grab a pair from the stores cupboard," she said indicated the cupboard near the door opposite her.
She paused briefly to allow time for those students to get settled. "Now a few of you have asked about this ivy that is growing on the window panes... and for the record, they won't harm you, though they may attempt to wrap themselves around your ankles or your fingers should you allow them to." She gave a few of the leaves another gentle stroke as they reached out to her.
"Now before we move deeper into the greenhouse, does anybody have any idea as to why there is little light in here?"
Selina started to feel a little clastrophobic by the whole crowd of people standing in the center of the classroom. Why were they standing so close to one another? There was obvioulsy no purpose to standing crowded in the center. Then when Bentley startedthe lesson Selina became even more confused. Why was there so little light in the classroom? But her wheels started to turn when Kurumi gave her answer. Similar to Devil's snare. There was ivy moving on the wall. OH BLOODY HELL NO! She was not going to be sacrificed to some merlin forsaken plant. What was this? Some kind of bad movie or something?
She tensed and rose her hand as she started to retreat to the center of the crowd so the plant could not get her, "Well ma'am, maybe the lack of light has to do with the plants. Perhaps they flourish at night like many plants in the desert do. That would mean that we are just recreating a night-like atmosphere."
"Seeing as it is an ivy," Eino began with his hand high in the air, "it can be sensitive to full light exposure, which can cause bleaching spots, altering its appearance and potentially its attributes, too." He paused to catch his breath for no longer than three seconds before continuing. "Although, ivies are known to thrive in sunlight, so perhaps you are not protecting them as much as you are protecting us." It could be that the plant grows uncontrollably in sunlight, or perhaps direct sunlight causes it to perform some other dangerous behavior.
Jen thought about this and raised her hand "Professor, these plants in here require little light to grow. So wouldn't plants that need a lot of light need a diffrent green house?"

SPOILER!!: The Professor
[QUOTE=Hera;10859021]
All of a sudden Seren was confronted by some sort of assault on her ears. What in the name of.... ?
She eyed the dark haired girl that had entered. Well... at least she was enthusiastic, right? An a Lion no less. "It most certainly is true... but we'll save the flesh-eaters for another lesson."
...
After closing the door to the greenhouse, Seren turned on her heel to face the students. "Welcome everyone to the first herbology lesson of the term, for those of you who are returning, it's good to see you... for those of you who are new, welcome I hope you enjoy your time here."

YAY!!!!
Lea Carter let out a loud reaction of happiness and jumped at where she stood. There really were MAN flesh eating plants. That was SO EXCITING!!! However her excitement cut short when the woman said they were for another lesson.
The little git let out a loud sigh of disappointment this time and for the rest of the time, she silently listened to the professor talking with a small pout on her face. Yea...moving...big...ivy...harmless. Moving forward a bit, she touched a random part of the thing with a little finger slightly. The pout was still on her face though.
Why was there little light?
Hmm?
Once the question was asked Lea looked around then eyed the plant. It could grow everywhere. And there was little light.
''Professor...'' she raised her hand ''...is not it like how we grow bean plants from little beans by placing them into damp cotton and hide them in somewhere without light to get them grow?'' yes, totally muggle background here. ''So maybe this is just like that bean plant. Eh...just bigger. It is what it wants. Little light.''

Alyssa looked at the ivy that the Professor kept stroking. It looked like the Flitterbloom plant that tended to be mistaken for Devil's Snare. But Alyssa wasn't aware that the Flitterbloom plant preferred the dark. "Professor could it be dark here because the plant we are going to work with behaves better in the dark when it is sleeping, and won't lash out angrily like it would normally do, when there is light and it is awake?" Then Alyssa decided to think outside the box. She raised her hand again and said, "Or Professor could it be that you want us to know how to work with plants in the dark, just in case there is no light or like there is an eclipse and we lose the sun? We still have to take care of the plants whether there is any light or not, right. Or are we trying to trick the plant to think that it's night time which is the only time it will allow us to harvest it, "Alyssa had just thought of that last answer after remembering one of the classes where they had learned about lunar planting. Alyssa hoped that she made sense, but even though she had just said that, she still believed that what they were working on was sensitive to the light, like she had said earlier in her first answer.

Minerva put her hand up. "Professor could some plants be more nocturnal and need more of the moon light and darkness. Like the plants we learned about last term in the joint lesson with Astronomy."
Julien looked up from his notebook, grinning as he noticed Treyen standing there. But honestly, though, if one more person was going to state the obvious about him being in Ravenclaw...he's was going to ask Juliet to scream. No sense in straining his vocal cords.
"Thank you," Julien nodded, scratching behind his ear. "I'd congratulate you on being in Hufflepuff...but I'm guessing I'm six years too late, huh?"
Another smile. Julien probably heard that a few times, no?
HAHA. Funny, though. Yet incredibly accurate. "You probably are." No, no, Julien WAS right. "Thanks, either way." He finally said, before turning his head to the one Professor in the room.

And he raised an eyebrow.
Ankles? So, basically, they'll make you trip, which could probably kill you depending on where you landed. That was pretty awesome, though. No one will ever find out.
Was Seren out to get them, though? She'd been spending too much time with Vindictus, hadn't she?

And Eino pretty much proved Treyen's thoughts to be correct. Kind of. Bentley could be protecting them from a silent death, yet she was exposing them all along.
Same thing.
He had no idea what to say about sunlight, really.

Alex LOVED when he knew the answer right away in classes. Even though he always had a bit of doubt (just cause he was anxious and worried like that) he still took pride in the fact that some classes, the answer just came naturally to him. Like right now.
His hand shot up in the air. "Well Professor, while most plants thrive in the sunlight, not all of them do. Some plants actually grow better if they have little exposure to sunlight. One example of this would be the Devil's Snare...they HATE sunlight," he said with a nod.

Seren nodded, listening to the students responses.
"Yes, good... but there's a bit more to it than that." Really she was looking for some creativity.

Oakey listened in as some students were mentioning sensitivity to sunlight and even burning if exposed. Oakey went one step further... Could these plants be vampiric? yes that sounded stupid and far fetched but the professor said she wanted creativity.
Ariella glanced around at everyone the classroom spouting off answers. They all seemed to know why there wasn't a lot of light in the greenhouse. So why was it that she was struggling with the first question of one of her best classes? How Professor Bentley was describing sounded quite a lot like Devil's Snare. But that is one of the most dangerous magical plants. Why would they be keeping it in the Herbology greenhouse? She sighed softly and raised her hand, hoping not to make a complete fool of herself and to at least earn a few points for Gryffindor.
"I'm not positive, Professor Bentley, but the ivy sounds a lot to me like the Devil's Snare. It might not be the exact plant, but could it possibly be a relative of it?" A relative? How lame could she sound. Plants didn't have brothers and sisters. She mentally kicked herself and lowered her hand subconsciously. "I'm pretty sure the Devil's Snare despises light. If it is the Devil's Snare, or at least a plant similar to it, it doesn't need sunlight to thrive, unlike most plants."
Right... well that was about all of them yes? Good.

Selena wasn't particularly happy about the amount of... ivy there was in the room. But she pulled out her gloves from her bag, still a bit unsure whether or not it was SAFE to be in here. Selena didn't wanna die. Plus, the professor had said they would WRAP themselves around the students. Would she allow them to? Selena was fairly certain her answer to that question would be no, but for now... the plants ought to stay away. Besides... they were harmless... right? That's what the professor said and what professors said was USUALLY right.
"Because the ivy covered it all up?" Selena offered. They were everywhere and all that...

"Now before we move deeper into the greenhouse, does anybody have any idea as to why there is little light in here?"
Sophie raised her hand. "Not all plants grow very well in the sunlight. It can even be fatal to some of them." she remembered her mum saying something about it, but she had never really fully listened to her. "Some might get all wild if exposed to the sun, actually!" It wasn't pretty, she was sure.
She looked around before saying anything else. "Oh! There are some plants that can be very creepy!" she said looking back to the professor. "Their creepiness would never be complete if they were in the day light." Okay, her mother had never told her that, but it was her opinion.
Louisa almost let out an 'AHA' at the question. Basically because she was feeling rather gloomy today without really putting her finger on the reason, now it was obvious. Little lighting! But.. why? She always thought greenhouses were meant to stay lightful.
Raising her hand slowly, she spoke, "Is it because this Ivy plant might get yellow spots due to direct intense light?" Really, Louisa had nothing else in mind.

"It most certainly is... rather affectionate creepers they are." ... unless you were intruding, then their cuddles were more like a feeble attempt at strangulation.
"Brilliant, then I trust you're well rested for this lesson."

"Morning LuLu dear," she replied brightly, flashing the Ravenclaw a bright smile.
"Morning Jezabel, and yes I did thank you," she greeted.
"Good morning dear."
Smiling at one of her Lions's Seren gave the girl a nod of her head. "Morning dear."
"Good morning," said Seren despite the lack of greeting.
"Good morning Nate, glad you could make it."
"Oh that's brilliant, I'll have to go and visit MoMo sometime."
"Morning Louisa," she greeted brightly.
"Good morning."

"Hello Tiffany," greeted Seren, a bright smile for another one of her Gryffindors.

"Good morning Zack," she replied warmly.
"Hello dear," she started before smirking slightly. "Depends how you mean a little dark. A little dark as in good... or a little dark as in bad?"
"Morning dear, thank you and it's good to see you too... glad you could make it."
"Morning Pam dear," she replied.
"Good morning Daichi, I had a splendid summer, thanks for asking."
She would have struck up a short conversation... but it was about time to start the lesson.
Right... well that was about all of them yes? Good.

Taylor raised her hand feeling slighly stupid, "Isn't some of the plants sensitive to light and would die or get harmed if they get too much?" After that she remained silent.

It seemed like everyone had already said everything, but Hannah didn't want to look like a slacker so she raised her hand and said "Professor every plant is different and requires different care. Could is be because these plants in this greenhouse would not live if exposed to sunlight or perhaps would not thrive?" She wasn't sure what else to add so she sat quietly while everyone else added their input.

After making sure she did, indeed, have her gloves, Sky thought about the question a minute. She knew that in some gardens, some of the plants were planted under trees and things because they preferred the shade. So maybe that applied here…? "Is because this plant thrives under shady conditions instead of direct sunlight? Like, maybe the sun evaporates water faster than the plant can absorb it?" she answered, uncertain. It was the best guess she could come up with…

Justin raised hi s hand and when called upon answered, " Profeesor, the only vine like plant that cannot handle the sun is Devil's Snare. When put in direct sunlight it sulks in the sun....Meaning it shrinks back is unable to thrive. " he sdaid proudly.
Ah same old Bently she somtimes wondered what her idea of dangerous was, that would be very interesting indeed! Oh god the ivy wasn't too dangerous.. too, uh oh it was starting to look like the mushroom incedent like last year... Her eyes widend as she stared at the plant, She felt like they'd pop out of her head anytime soon now..
LuLu's hand raised in the air "I believe the light calms or quiets down the ivy, I'm guessing so it won't harm anyone in any praticular way," she replied
