It was such a nice day outside, the weather was mild, not quite warm but not cold either, and it was perfect for the first lesson of the term. Seren stood just inside the entrance to greenhouse two, waiting for the students to arrive. It was fairly dark in here, with creeping ivy curling an crawling its way up the sides of the glass panels, but there was still enough light to see clearly.
Tapping her heel excitedly and stroking the moving tendrils of a nearby ivy, Seren waited patiently for the students to arrive. "Just form a group here please," she said to them indicating to the area just in front of her. Yes that's right... just stand there, no need for sitting just yet, or at all.
OOC: The lesson has officially started, do not announce yourself arriving from this point onward, just pretend as if you've been here the whole time. If you haven't done so already then please read through the Herbology Rules and Expectations and the SS Site Rules. All SS Board Rules apply. IC rule breaking will result in IC punishment, OOC rule breaking will result in OOC punishment. Please behave appropriately and most importantly... have fun. If you have any questions don't hesitate to send me a PM.
Harlow smiled up at Professor Bentley, "Yes ma'am I did. I got Appa replanted at home and he's having a great time. And MoMo has gotten so big in the student garden." she told the Professor.

With her satchel hanging on her shoulder, Louisa walked into Herbology and smiled at the professor, "Good day, professor Bentley." Oh? They had to form a group instead of just sitting there? Well, that sounded exciting. And promising. The fifteen years old headed where all the other students gathered and stood there. Idly.

Tennessee was looking forward to Herbology. It is one of her favourite subjects and she's pretty wondering what are they gonna tackle in today's lesson. "Good Day Professor," she eagerly beamed at him and went to join the others.
Lewis and Herbology usually didn't go well together. And now that he didn't even have somebody next to him who would tell him the right answer and do most of the practical stuff for him, it would probably be even worse. But he had to take this class for his OWLs so...here he was.
Smiling at the professor as he passed her standing right next to the entrance, Lewis greeted her, "Good day, Professor Bentley." Yes, she was one of the few professors he actually knew the name of. Not that that would do him any good or help him get a decent grade or anything but still. He nodded at her instructions and went to stand with the other students already there, not looking at anybody in particular as he did so.
Spike had his usual bounce in his step as he ducked into the greenhouse, and his eyes twinkled. After his experiments at home over the summer, he was particularly eager for this class. Well, he was always eager for Herbology...but he'd learnt things on his own over the summer, and he was keen to share some of the results with Professor Bentley.
"Hi Professor," he said with a cheery wave, joining the growing crowd. What excitement would they be doing today? More bitey things, yes?
Oh, Kurumi remembered this boy from Diagon Alley and she smiled in his direction as he came closer. "Hey Messer," she replied. "I'm well, eager for class..." She trailed off just a bit to look at the playful ivy. "You excited for Herbology?" Hopefully he remembered his gloves.
Messer was not sure whether he's excited for this lesson or not but those ivy seem really interesting. Maybe this class wasn't so bad. "Yes. I guess so." He just hoped that those ivy are not going to eat him. His eyes went from Kurumi to the plant and back to Kurumi again. Then his eyes spotted something shinny in the older girl robes it said Pre-PREFECT.
O______O
"You're the Gryffindor prefect?" She was not gonna take point from him because he accidentally bump into her back in Diagon Alley wasn't she? He was sorry. He really is.

The first Herbology lesson of the term.
Tiffany was quite anxious about that since it was good to meet Professor Bentley again. Remembering the fun she had last year, especially with the puffapods, she was totally looking forward to it though she may get herself filled with soil and dirt during lesson.
Waving at the professor who stood at the entrance, waiting for students to come, Tiffany greeted her with a splendid smile,"Good day, professor," Then off she went, finding a place to get settled till she heard the professor saying that they had to form themselves into groups. Well...Tiffany had no idea whom she was going to work with so she decided to wait till her friends came.

Ella was excited as she stepped up to the entrance and noticed her professor standing there, smiling. "Hello Professor Bentley." She eagerly joined a group of students who were mingling and let her eyes begin to wander. All those weeks helping Mum in the garden will hopefully help me through this.
Zack was pretty sure that he would do well in this class. He loved nature, and like taking care of the plants and animals and learn more about them. This was his second class since he came to Hogwarts. Being a newcomer didn't seem too bad for him.
He walked to the area where everyone gathered. He noticed the professor standing and waiting, he looked up and smiled at her "Good Morning, Professor" he said and stood to the boy who looked older than him.

Elise beamed as she bounced down the bright hallways. Which was what shocked her when she entered the greenhouse. Confusion clear on her features, she bounded over towards Professor Bentley as she always used to. Sure, she'd have preferred for Professor Bentley to have become the Ravenclaw Head of House, but what happened happened. Herbology'd always be her favourite subject.
"Hi Professor Bentley!" Elise grinned, bounting on the balls of her feet. "Isn't it a little dark?" A little? Elise squinted as her eyes adjusted to the lack of light.

Was that Ivy? And was it moving?
Violet entered into the greenhouse and had to adjust her eyesight because of it's darkness. She saw the lady at the front thinking it was the professor so."Hello professor, good to see you on the first day of herbology! I'm very excited about what you will be teaching us." As Violet walked past the teacher, she saw her friend Elise and waved to her. "Hello Elise, it's good to see you." Violet hoped that it wouldn't scare the girl that she had already knew her name from somewhere, but kept on smiling at the girl.
Violet had to do a double take just then because hadn't she seen the professor stroking something? That it was actually moving? Yes, the professor was stroking some bizarre plant. Did it look like Ivy? As in poison ivy. Now that got Violet scared and quickly joined the others in the group in front of the professor beside Elise.
Pam walked in, excited to start a new term of classes. She skipped into herbology, her bag slung over her shoulder. "hello professor." she said happily. She took a spot next to her classmate, and smiled. She couldn't wait to see what they would be doing.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
His school bag hung over his shoulder as Daichi made his way in to the Herbology greenhouse for the lesson. He was, like alway, in a good mood and therefore opened the door with a stupid smile on his face. The place was rather darker than normal and he blinked a couple of time wondering if he had gone to the right place...wouldn't be the first time he entered the wrong classroom..
But when he saw his classmates standing there and the Professor also he sighed and stepped further. "Hello Professor~!" he greeted with a cheerful voice and waved his hand a little. "Had a good summer?" he questioned as he brought a hand through his now short blonde hair when his head started to itch and then out of habit to his ears to check if the earrings were still in. Yup check.

Ella recognized an older girl who had helped her with her owl problem before she had left for Hogwarts. She was so happy with Jasper and this girl's advice had been a great help to Ella. She walked over to say hello. "Hi, I'm Ella. Do you remember me from when we met at the owlery this summer?"

Elise's head turned sharply, her straight hair whipping around her face as she spun around to face the voice. Who was it? The voice didn't seem familiar to Elise, but somehow she knew her name.
"Err... Hi," she smiled. "Good to see you too..." she trailed off, indicating that she didn't know the girl's name.

Hmm..why indeed? Of course she caught that wink. But what exactly did it mean? Looking around once more, Beatrice reminded herself that the reason behind the darkness was the ivy all around the greenhouse. So...maybe...
"Oh!" She suddenly exclaimed, as if guessing what the Professor meant. Then she frowned a bit, surely those ivy aren't dangerous. Professor Seren would never cause harm to the students. "Err--Professor Seren, they don't bite, do they?" She asked, head gesturing the ivy tendrils that the Professor was seemingly playing with.
Bite?... "Oh heavens no, they just like to cuddle."

Puffing slightly from the run she waltzed into the greenhouse. "Hi Professor," she said as she found a position to sit. Hopefully the professor wouldn't be mad at her for not being precisely on time.
"Morning Amelia," she replied smiling at the rushed Slytherin.

"Hello dear," she nodded at the Hufflepuff.

"It most certainly is... rather affectionate creepers they are." ... unless you were intruding, then their cuddles were more like a feeble attempt at strangulation.

Maybe she'd still be able to keep bilingual, beyond occasionally testing Matt's knowledge of the language.
"I did. My summer was very nice," she replied, even as it seemed the professor was anxious about the time. Certain things about her summer were better than others, namely what had happened during her birthday surprise once she was back in London, but she really couldn't complain. She wasn't about to say much more, though. Especially if class was going to begin soon.
"Brilliant, then I trust you're well rested for this lesson."
Resting... who needed resting when they had herbology?

Anyway she was going to screw something up with those plants.... Finally arriving in front of the Greenhouses, Gwen realized she wasn't late. Phew. After waiting a couple of minutes to regain her breath, the Ravenclaw finally came in.
'Hello Professor Bentley', she smiled and then joined the large group.
"Good morning Gwen," she greeted brightly.

Even the place was a bit gloomy, the dark haired little girl shrugged it away and took a position near other people with Gryffindor uniforms until she CAUGHT something MOVING from the corner of her eyes.
There was this long, green ivy thing moving!!!! Oooh...interesting!!! Unholstering his wand quickly she started to poke the moving thing with it. Also she had a question that she had been dying to ask about magical plants and flowers so she did while still poking the vine so. ''Professor, is it true that there are HUGE and VERY DANGEROUS plants and flowers that can eat flesh like animals and PEOPLE!!!! I wanna see how they attack and consume the flesh!!!''
All of a sudden Seren was confronted by some sort of assault on her ears. What in the name of.... ?
She eyed the dark haired girl that had entered. Well... at least she was enthusiastic, right? An a Lion no less. "It most certainly is true... but we'll save the flesh-eaters for another lesson."

"Good morning Daichi, I had a splendid summer, thanks for asking."
She would have struck up a short conversation... but it was about time to start the lesson.
Right... well that was about all of them yes? Good.
After closing the door to the greenhouse, Seren turned on her heel to face the students. "Welcome everyone to the first herbology lesson of the term, for those of you who are returning, it's good to see you... for those of you who are new, welcome I hope you enjoy your time here."
"Now before we start I hope you have all familiarised yourselves with the class rules and I hope you all have your gloves with you. If not, please take this time to grab a pair from the stores cupboard," she said indicated the cupboard near the door opposite her.
She paused briefly to allow time for those students to get settled. "Now a few of you have asked about this ivy that is growing on the window panes... and for the record, they won't harm you, though they may attempt to wrap themselves around your ankles or your fingers should you allow them to." She gave a few of the leaves another gentle stroke as they reached out to her.
"Now before we move deeper into the greenhouse, does anybody have any idea as to why there is little light in here?"
OOC: The lesson has OFFICIALLY started, do not post your character arriving late unless you want to lose house points-- just pretend you were here the whole time, also no more chatting please, and DO NOT edit your posts/answers. Feel free to be as creative as you like with your response and I shall continue this lesson in approximately 12 hours.

Creepers was right. Kurumi continued to eye the ivy out of the corner of her eye, missing what the first year Puff had just asked her. It could go and be creepy playful if it wanted to, just as long as it didn't try to pull on her hair or anything.
Not long after, Professor Bentley began the lesson and Kurumi's hand went immediately into the air. "Perhaps," she said glancing back at the creeper. "Because the plants in here are sensitive to direct light? Similar to....Devil's Snare." Yeah, she was watching you playful ivy. "Or, perhaps to prevent premature photosynthesis?"

Sammy looked up at the older boy. "Hey Hades." He was glad the older boy hadn't minded him coming near him. That ivy didn't look too cool...He shrugged his shoulders in response. Still wasn't sure how he felt about being here.
SPOILER!!: professor

Sammy turned away from Hades as he professor lady started talking. He probably should have figured out what her name was. Oh well. Someone would say it again eventually, right? He held up his pair of gloves as the professor lady mentioned them. They were Wally's old ones, but they were still in good shape.
...wait. What? Sammy eyed the ivy as the professor said that it would try to grow on them. And that they should let it. That just sounded crazy! The first year couldn't help but stare at the plant now. Yeah...he saw it move. Sam moved away from the plant. He didn't care if they were harmless. That thing was not growing on him.
The light? Sammy raised his hand. "I'm guessing the plants don't like it?" Seemed simple enough.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Daichi smiled and nodded his head when the Professor answered his question and waited for the lesson to start. But as soon as it started his smile dropped and he looked a little panicked. He knew he had forgotten something! Quickly checking his bag for the gloves, he didn't find them inside and his eyes then followed the direction of the cupboard behind him and quickly walked towards it to grab a pair of gloves....
Right, all settled. He hoped. Walking back to his original place , Daichi listened and held his hand in the air. "Uhm, because if there is too much light the plant will die?" he suggested.
Gloves? Oh yeah right, Thank Merlin he remembered to bring his. He almost forgot to bring it with him earlier. Then Professor Bentley explaining to them about the ivy. She said that those plant won't harm them. Fiuh.
Messer raised his hand into the air "Because we can't see anything in the dark, Professor." That's the logical answer, right? No one can't see in the dark and they might run into the ivy and-and then the plant might eat them.

At Bentley's command, Ellie reached into her side back and pulled her gloves out. They were purple with little flowery designs. Heh. Anywho. As the professor talked about the ivy, Ellie looked around at all the window panes an the ivy that was creeping its way around. How exciting.
Now, why would there be little light? Erm... Ellie wracked her brain before a thought popped into her mind and she raised her hand. "Professor, could it be related to Devil's Snare? It's sort of an ivy and it can only survive in dark, damp places. It can't stand light." Which probably meant it couldn't grow in light either... right? It was just a guess. Ellie wasn't a pro at this herbology business.
Jezzabelle slipped her gloves on and looked at the vines around her. She raised her hand "Could it be possible that this plant has some of the same properties as Devil's Snare." Then again. "Or could it be a Creeping Ficus which is a fast growing vine that requires little or low light?"

Ooh, cuddle. Beezus liked cuddling cute things!
Now, enough for the childish talk and moving over to the lesson. Of course, Professor Bentley won't give them something that'll hurt any of them. Sure they had those violent pixies last term but they weren't the type the ate people alive, they just liked pulling on someone's hair.. Yeah, that pretty much was an unforgettable experience.
Beezus listened intently as the Herbology Professor added more information about the climbing and creeping plants. And when they were asked to place on their gloves, she immediately opened her backpack and got out her gloves then placed it on.
So..this time it was idea sharing.
But as she was about to give her opinion, she heard Kurumi talk and it was almost the same as what she was thinking. She nodded at the Gryffindor and raised her hand, "Professor, I agree with Kurumi. Maybe these ivy are those kinds that cannot survive with sunlight or..that they tend to move towards the light." she said. "However, the main reason why there is only little light in here is because of the ivy tendrils that are covering the glass panels." Hehe.
