It was such a nice day outside, the weather was mild, not quite warm but not cold either, and it was perfect for the first lesson of the term. Seren stood just inside the entrance to greenhouse two, waiting for the students to arrive. It was fairly dark in here, with creeping ivy curling an crawling its way up the sides of the glass panels, but there was still enough light to see clearly.
Tapping her heel excitedly and stroking the moving tendrils of a nearby ivy, Seren waited patiently for the students to arrive. "Just form a group here please," she said to them indicating to the area just in front of her. Yes that's right... just stand there, no need for sitting just yet, or at all.
OOC: The lesson has officially started, do not announce yourself arriving from this point onward, just pretend as if you've been here the whole time. If you haven't done so already then please read through the Herbology Rules and Expectations and the SS Site Rules. All SS Board Rules apply. "Also should you wish to mark your pot for whatever reason, feel free to do so." ... because she expected at least SOME of them to visit their seedling as it grew.

Elise nodded, mentally taking note of everything that was happening. Oh, how she needed her pastels and paper right now...
Smiling to herself, she picked a pot and pulled on some goggles. She could almost imagine how ridiculous she looked, goggles. Pffft. Snapping on her gloves, she picked up her wand.
Chaudensis. Right. Turning her wand in a smooth circle that went anti-clockwise around the inside of the pot, Elise muttered. "Chaudensis."
Her circle was perfect, she knew it was. It came from hours and hours of drawing. Touching the pot gingerly, she waited for the feeling to register. It was warming, alright. Warm enough? Good. Now, for the next step. What was it, again?
... After Salima had finished the second thing on the list she double checked that she was wearing her gloves (Even though she didn't need to because she knew that she was wearing them). She then, gently, picked up the fire seed and placed it on top of the soil, gently.
Seren's head snapped up as she heard the words 'Professor' and 'problem' in the same sentence! Spinning on her heel to face the student whom addressed her, Seren-- eyes wide, held out her arms to steady herself. "Problem?" she asked... "What's the problem?"
Good, so far nobody was staring at him or something. They all seemed busy planting their seeds...or doing other things...like leaving. He really wanted to leave too. Maybe he should've just put his pot over there along with the others and pretend everything had gone well. Nobody would ever know it was his.
But it was too late now. And the professor seemed to be...quite anxious. What was she doing with her arms?! Lewis just stared at her for a moment before realizing that he should probably answer her question. "Erm, I, well, I'm not sure if this looks right. Is the seed supposed to come back out from under the heap of soil? Also, is it supposed to...swim?" He glanced back down into his pot of soup soil and bit his lip.
Maybe he HAD put in a little too much water. Err...
Gwen carefully placed the fire seed on the soil, right in the middle of the pot, the tip of her tongue slightly poking out from between her lips as it always did when she was concentrating. She really wanted to make sure she was doing this correctly.
Then Gwen filled the pot with soil and patted it down gently with her hand, hoping she wasn't suffocating her seed the way the Professor's instructions had warned.

Lewis dared a quick glance up at the professor and what he saw made him bite his lip a little harder. This didn't look too good, did it? But on the other hand, he was pretty proud that he had SEEN that he had done something wrong. This was progress, wasn't it?
He suppressed a yelp when all of a sudden she jumped into action, telling him what to do. Get it out. Right. Eyes darting around a little frantically while he tried to figure out HOW exactly he was supposed to get it out, they finally fell on his wand and he quickly reached for it and pointed it at the seed. "Wingardium Leviosa!" Okay, now he had a flying fire seed in front of him. Help?

Eyeing the seed, she wondered if it was too far gone... nahhhh it was still warm to the touch, it would be fine. She hoped.
Justin saw that he ahd done two steps in one. " Oh no, Professor I accidentally did two steps in one. Is it okay to continue with planting my fire seed? " He hoped so.... He didn't want to lose ant more points...It had been a bad day and he was already ashamed enough.
Kacie tried her best to get the right moment of her wand. Oh, she hoped it work and she didn't mess up to bad doing the spell.

She checked again, but still the spell didn't work. What was she doing wrong? She was sure she was saying the spell right, so it had to be how she was moving her wand. She stopped and practicing again, just the rotation. Then she tired it again, third time was a charm right? "Chaudensis!" Kacie said, correctly rotation her wrist this time. Walking back to the front, Lewis grabbed another packet of soil and quickly made his way back to his desk. He then poured about half of the content into his new pot and...waited for Professor Bentley to return (?).
He was going to be the last person in here, great.

She'd gone on to siphon some water off the seeds surface using hot air... hopefully that would do that trick. But really what it needed was a nice cozy, warm bed of soil.
Alas, the Badger was getting aorund to it, dragging his feet a little. Once the soil was in the pot, they waited. "It's alright, you'll get the hang of it.. it just takes a little practice, that's all."
As soon as Seren could feel the warmth radiating from the soils surface by lowering one of her gloved hands toward it and slipping out a finger, she dropped the seed on top. "There, now simply cover him with soil and that'll be you done for today."
...Salima looked down at her list to see what the next step was.

Salima covered the seed with some more soil until the pot was filled then patted it down gently, but not so much, and looked back at her instructions for her fifth and final task...

Last but not least, he was to water the fireseed. It was something they did whenever they planted or replanted anything but there was the added fact that the water needed to be boiling hot, not just the temperature it was when it came from a wand. Retrieving a watering can like he had seen others do, he brought back to his work area. "Aquamenti..." he cast filling the can with enough water to give it a good dose but not to drown it.
Now we were to use the spell from before...right?
Hearing it being said from a classmate who was on the same step he was, Gideon took the hint and slipped his wand out once more to take care of it. "Chaudensis..." he said clearly, casting the spell with a circular motion of his wand as before. Before long the watering can was warming and the heat transfered to the water boiling it. When he was satisfied with the condition of the water, the Gryffindor gingerly gripped the handle and picked it back up, tilting it over his pot to water the fire-seed and straightening it up to stop the flow when he believed it to be watered enough.

"There all done," he mused quietly as he exchanged wand for quill and crossed off the last item of the list. As he moved to clean up, returning everything that wasn't his back to the place where he had gotten it from, Gideon remembered the last instruction from Bentley...putting the pots off to the side. Carefully lifting up said pot, the boy moved it to an open spot remembering to make sure his initials were visible for later. He then stepped back just in time to avoid a friendly vine wanting to curl around his hand, instead keeping it free and simply giving it a light brush.

Gwen took her wand in to her hand again and pointed it in to her watering can.
"Aguamenti." It quickly filled up with water. Then Gwen did the twist and tap movement, saying, "Chaudensis."
Gwen poured a few drops of hot water in to the pot, pauses, and then added more. She did this until she felt she'd given it just enough water.
"Professor Bentley, I'd like to mark my pot, but I'm not sure how."
This was one of the moments Gwen thought it would be helpful to have a permanent marker with her, something wizards and witches never seemed to have invented.

Now he could fill half of the pot with soil and let it rest for several minutes. He was starting to fill it up with soil. Just 1 scoop wouldn't do it though. He had to at least 19 more scoops to fill it up half way. Here goes scoop number 2. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19. Finally it was filled up half way.
5. Water the fire seed with boiling water, without drowning it.
After patting down the soil on her fire seed, Salima placed a watering can next to her, got out her wand then pointed it above the watering can and said 'Aguamenti'. A Jet of water squirted out from her wand into the watering can. When the can was half full Salima warmed it up by saying 'Chaudensis' and twisting her wrist in a circular motion and the watering can began to warm up.
Once the can was warm enough Salima sprinkled some of the warm water over the fire plant until it was damp but not completely wet.
When she had finally finished the task she called over for Professor Bentley and asked her 'Professor, I would like to mark my pot could you help me? Please?' she added
1. Charm pot to heat itself. Check
2. Fill half of pot up with soil and let it rest for several minutes to warm up. Check
3. Carefully take a single fire seed with dragon hide gloves and place on top of the soil.

Nate felt the pot and it cooled down enough for him to move on to the next step. Which was putting in the fire seed and planting it. Nate took a seed. And he placed it on top of the soil.
A ship in harbor is safe — but that is not what ships are built for.
Victoria read the next instruction carefully and proceeded in her next task. She filled half of the pot with soil, just like the instructions had said. And now…and now she has to wait for it to warm up. All right! A several minutes of relaxing time. Victoria took her time to cross out the second step.

Alex had been momentarily distracted by a commotion occurring across the greenhouse from him...apparently someone did something wrong and they were afraid the seed was going to die or something. Right, note to self--don't do what that kid did.
The next step was...add more soil. Alex got up and wandered over to the soil again, took the tiny shovel in his hand once more, and added more to the pot. He patted it down over the seed so that it was firm but not TOO packed, like the instructions had said. He was almost done!

While she'd been waiting for her soil to warm up, Stella had noticed the chaos that had happened with the Hufflepuff boy almost drowning his seed. It made her even more determined not to mess anything up, but then, she wasn't really to the point of watering yet. She couldn't help but keep an eye on Professor Bentley and the boy as she leaned over to check her soil, though. Maybe she wasn't the worst off this lesson, as she felt a faint heat coming from the soil in her pot even through her gloves. It seemed like that meant she could move on to step three, which was retrieving her seed. her seed that, if Professor Bentley could be believed with her reaction to the Hufflepuff alm ost-drowning, should be treated like a baby. Stella had a feeling she should, and she carefully made her way over to the box.
Trying to think of a name for her seed, she carefully picked one up, her hand still safely encased in her dragonhide glove, and she stood for a moment with the seed nestled in her palm. Something made her think her seed was a girl, which was odd since she still didn't even think Oberon was one gender or another, and she had a feeling Professor Bentley wouldn't let her take her fire seed with her after the term was over. Either way, it helped channel her thoughts into ideas for a name, as she finally returned to her pot. Gently setting the still nameless seed into the center of the soil. Now she just had a few more steps to go, before she could leave the lesson. Hopefully she'd come up with a good name for the little seed before then.

"Uhh what cow?" she asked a little perplexed. How on earth had the boy come to the conclusion of... cow... in the incantation? Chaudensis... there was nothing cow-like about it at all.

Well on the whole it looked as though the students were getting along quite nicely. While they continued practicing the wand movement, Seren summoned a box of goggles--because you could never be too safe, and another small cart of watering cans.
Feeling around in her robes pocket, she plucked out an old silver tin and screwed the top off. Inside where the fire seeds, all hot and red hissed a little as it met more oxygen.
"Alright everyone, I trust you all have your notes ready.." and that they were paying attention.
"First things first, you must perform the charm on your pot... now you will know if it has worked because you will feel the sides begin to warm, it wont be hot, just warm to the touch. Then come up and get your materials and follow the instructions on the board."
Simple, yes?
Tapping her wand on the blackboard once more, another line appeared beneath he instructions.
"So everyone come and claim a pot and goggles and get started. ONLY come for your seed when you need it."
"Also should you wish to mark your pot for whatever reason, feel free to do so." ... because she expected at least SOME of them to visit their seedling as it grew.

Vickers secured a pot for himself and pointed his wand along the sides "Chaudensis" he uttered lining the inside of the pot in a circular motion just as the Professor had instructed. He could feel the pot starting to heat up rather nicely.

Text Cut: Stella's notes
1. Charm pot to heat itself. 2. Fill half of pot up with soil and let it rest for several minutes to warm up. 3. Carefully take a single fire seed with dragon hide gloves and place on top of the soil.
4. Cover fire seed with soil, so that pot is filled. Pat the soil down a little (not too much, you don't want to suffocate it).
5. Water the fire seed with boiling water, without drowning it.
For boiling water, add water (via aguamenti) to the watering can and heat it. This will ensure you 1. control the temperature and 2. don't over water your seed. Use a VERY small amount, simply enough to moisten the soil.
The seed looked comfortable, partly nestled in the soil underneath it. Stella felt like it was safe to move on to the next step, at least. Getting the little seed all cozy underneath the rest of the soil, even if she worried that not being able to see that the seed was still glowing would mean it wasn't going to grow. Professor Bentley had told them to cover it up, though, and it seemed like the watering was more dangerous than just finishing the planting. So she figured it was alright to go back to the extra soil, slowly adding it to her pot on top of the still-glowing seed.
She wondered if they needed to warm the new soil up, like they'd needed to do to the base soil. The pot could only do so much, she thought, but gently pressing down of the top layer of soil, she felt the tiniest bit of warmth filtering through. "You're still doing alright, little seed?," she whispered, leaning over her pot so hopefully nobody would hear her talking to the now-buried fire seed. She didn't want anyone to think she was crazy, after all, even if most or the other students still there seemed more occupied with their own planting than they were paying attention to what was going on around them. Maybe it was just her. But everything she could feel right now told her she wasn't messing this up.
