It was such a nice day outside, the weather was mild, not quite warm but not cold either, and it was perfect for the first lesson of the term. Seren stood just inside the entrance to greenhouse two, waiting for the students to arrive. It was fairly dark in here, with creeping ivy curling an crawling its way up the sides of the glass panels, but there was still enough light to see clearly.
Tapping her heel excitedly and stroking the moving tendrils of a nearby ivy, Seren waited patiently for the students to arrive. "Just form a group here please," she said to them indicating to the area just in front of her. Yes that's right... just stand there, no need for sitting just yet, or at all.
OOC: The lesson has officially started, do not announce yourself arriving from this point onward, just pretend as if you've been here the whole time. If you haven't done so already then please read through the Herbology Rules and Expectations and the SS Site Rules. All SS Board Rules apply. IC rule breaking will result in IC punishment, OOC rule breaking will result in OOC punishment. Please behave appropriately and most importantly... have fun. If you have any questions don't hesitate to send me a PM.
After checking his notes again, Kennedy went to retrieve a water can so he could boil water in it. He came back and grabbed his wand, directing it at the can. "Aguamenti," he said. He filled up the can, but not too much so no water would overflow.
"Chaudensis!" He was starting to like that spell. It would be great for instant coffee... or tea. When Kennedy saw bubbles surfacing up he new that it was just right for his lovely fire seed. He picked up the water can with boiling water and slowly tipped it so that he could manage how much was going into the pot.
Hmm, there. He placed the can down and made sure that his fire seed wasn't drowning. He learned that the hard way when his mom was teaching him how to garden. He had accidentally put too much water inside the pot making a mess... it took him a week to get over the fact that he almost "killed" a plant.
SPOILER!!: Notes
1. Charm pot to heat itself. 2. Fill half of pot up with soil and let it rest for several minutes to warm up. 3. Carefully take a single fire seed with dragon hide gloves and place on top of the soil. 4. Cover fire seed with soil, so that pot is filled. Pat the soil down a little (not too much, you don't want to suffocate it). 5. Water the fire seed with boiling water, without drowning it.
When he was done, he labeled his pot with his name. He was definitely coming back to check up on it. Kennedy took the pot where they were told to and came back to clean his work area. With a simple Scourgify he left it as clean as he had found it.
He swung his messenger bag over his shoulder and looked back just to make sure he didn't forget anything. As he walked to the exit he waved over to Professor Bentley. "Bye, Professor Bentley, thanks for the lesson!" he said, his cheeks going slightly pink. Why did they do that?!
Finally, the last step! Angelina walked over happily to get her water can. "Aguamenti," she said filling up the can to play her water in. Next she said, "Chaudensi," so now the water was hot enough, like she needed. Picking up the somewhat heavy can she began to water the plant. She stopped after a while to make sure she didn't drown it, and luckly she didn't!

Now she was done! Looking over everything, and all the steps Angelina found she was really done. She labled her pot with her name and took it over to were all the other students pots where, and headed back to clean her mess up. She always made sure she cleaned her mess a little while working, so nothing was so messy she couldn't figure out anything, and nothing would get anywhere.
After she was done cleaning her area she picked up her things and headed out the door saying, "Thank you for the lovely lesson Professor Bentley!" After waving a little she headed out of the greenhouse and to the next thing that was on her list for today.
5. Water the fire seed with boiling water, without drowning it.

Before adding more, Kurumi peeked inside to make sure that her seed was doing alright and, when she saw that it was a vibrant red color, she picked up her small shovel again and began to fill the remaining space with dirt. Once this was done, Kurumi turned the soil with her fingers and patted it down just a bit.
Kurumi removed her gloves again and felt the outside of her pot to make sure that her spell was still in effect. It WOULD be a bad thing if it wore off during midplanting after all. Feeling that it was still nice and warm, Kurumi left her gloves at her station and headed over towards the shed to retrieve a watering can. Her eyes were more adjusted to the darkness now, which was good, so she wasn't stumbling around nearly as much. Her knee did happen to connect with the edge of one of the tables. Ouch.
Finding an appropriate watering can, Kurumi made her way back to her pot.
Arriving at her pot, Kurumi set her watering can down and removed her wand from her pocket again and pointed it towards the opening. "Aquamenti," she said and a jet of water came out of her wand, filling her can halfway. Repeating the circular wand movement from earlier and cast Chaudensis. She knelt down, hugging her knees to her chest, while she waited for the water to come to a boil. NOW she felt like she was waiting for her cauldron to boil...which depressed her that she was thinking about Potions during Herbology. Even IF the two went hand in hand at times, that didn't make her feel much better.
When she heard the soft tinging of the metal, she knew that the water had come to a boil and she put her gloves back on just in case the entire watering can had been heated. Dropping all that water all over the place would be a disaster. No need to repeat a flooded greenhouse again.
Kurumi performed a few practices on the ground away from her pot. Making sure that she could pour just a little bit of water and stop. Returning her attention to her pot, Kurumi squinted her eyes and brought the soil into focus. Slowly, she tilted the watering can over the pot and the moment she heard a sizzle - which was only about a second or so after she poured, she tilted it back up and set the can down, removing her gloves afterwards and testing the soil briefly. Good, not too damp.
Kurumi quickly wrote her name down on a piece of parchment and attached it to the pot with a Sticking Charm so that she could find the pot more easily later.

Alright, gloves back on now. Kurumi picked up her pot and hugged it to her chest tightly, allowed it to warm herself, as she waddled over to the bushes as indicated by Professor Bentley. Right...the creepers... Kurumi tried her best to avoid them, but they were rather persistent vines. Once she was able to get away, Kurumi dusted herself off and began to pick up her things.
"Professor Bentley," Kurumi asked glancing back at her pot for a moment. "Do we need to cover them with something? To make sure that everything is dark?" Fireseeds were, as she explained, very VERY sensitive plants and with all of them coming in and out of the greenhouse there was bound to be an excess of light that could make them sick or something.
SPOILER!!: to do
For boiling water, add water (via aguamenti) to the watering can and heat it. This will ensure you 1. control the temperature and 2. don't over water your seed. Use a VERY small amount, simply enough to moisten the soil.

Great....the tough part, the actual dealing with the really hot fire seed. Though with the gloves it certainly should be managable like was said as long as one didn't drop it. Gideon moved to where the seeds were gathered, the boy carefully picking up one from the bunch.
So far so good.
Making sure his grip was secure, he carried it back to his pot to place it. It took him a moments pause as he wordlessly debated the best way to place it while still holding it, the Gryffindor finally gingerly laying it down about the newly potted soil.
There, he mused to himself as he crossed off the next item on the list.

Placing her hand on the soil, Jezzabelle found that it was warm enough to the touch. She looked at her notes again and made sure her gloved were on and her goggles were tight. She walked up and grabbed on of the seeds out of the container and carried it oh so carefully to her spot to place it in the pot.
She set it down right in the center on top of the soul and listened to it sizzle as it made contact with the soil below it. She turned back to her notes and crossed off the completed step. This was all so much easier than all the other classes she had. Not once did she mess up.

Glenn picked up her pot and placed it by the bushes. The vines curled around her wrist and squeezed quite tightly. The badger pulled away and managed to fall over onto the floor, luckily, her plant didn't topple off with her.
She brushed herself off and stood up. She was still soaked from the accident with the water charm, she pulled her leave strewn hair behind her ear and walked up to the professor, "Thank you!" She said smiling gratefully and leaving the Greenhouse, shivering in her wet clothes.

Simple, yes?
Tapping her wand on the blackboard once more, another line appeared beneath he instructions.
------------ "So everyone come and claim a pot and goggles and get started. ONLY come for your seed when you need it."
"Also should you wish to mark your pot for whatever reason, feel free to do so." ... because she expected at least SOME of them to visit their seedling as it grew.
Note copying. DONE. Beezus carefully returned her quill, parchment and inkwell inside her backpack as she listened intently on Professor Bentley's start off instructions. She also took a spare parchment and quickly made a duplicate for the instructions.
After explaining to them the significance and how to do the first step which was to charm the pot to make it warm, Professor Seren opted that they get their needed gears and start. Beezus stood up and approached the area where the pot and goggles were placed and got each for herself.
She carried both to her own working area and settled them carefully on the ground. She grabbed her wand and stood up, the pot below her. "Chaudensis," she muttered as she seemingly formed a circle shape in the air with her wand.
First step, completed.

Eino quikly wrote down the instructions on his notebook before putting on his gloves and goggles. He looked rather silly with those goggles on, but his opinion of himself in them was that he looked rather swell. He would make a very dashing bug with large black eyes, though the lack of antennae definitely held him back. Next, he took one of the pots and carefully removed his wand from his pocket. He placed the pot on the ground, then tracing his wand in a circle he uttered the incantation. ""Chaudensis." He could feel a warm air coming from the pot, which indicate that he ha been successful in charming it. Then, he turned to his notes an read the following instructions.
Now that her task was complete, Ira proceeded to clean up. She tidied the place as best as could. Then taking her pot, she went to the front and placed it among the bushes at the side. Then taking off her goggles she placed them back from where she had taken them.
Then gathering all her things, she bade Professor goodbye, "Thank you for the wonderful lesson, Professor! And Good Bye!". With that she walked out of the greenhouse back to her common room.
Once his pot was charmed, Eino took several handfuls of soil and began to fill his pot until it was half full. He filled it in very small portions to make sure it was no more and no less than exactly half filled. This took several trips back and forth from the dunes of soil, but he gathered some around his pot first for quick access. Once filled, Eino waited and watched for the bewitched pot to warm up the soil. While he waited, he gathered some additional soil for him to cover the fire seed later. After a considerable amount of time, he checked the pot, and decided it was ready to receive the fire seed.

Seeing as she'd just placed the fire seed in a new environment, Sierra took a step back and monitored it closely before even attempting to move on. Everything about the seed seemed to be just fine, though, so Sierra guessed it was time to move on. Besides, if she left it out in the open too long, she wasn't sure it wouldn't be harmed.
She triple-checked her gloves (as she'd already checked them twice) then grabbed her garden shovel. She scooped up a bit of soil then spread it over the fire seed, stopping only when the pot was filled. She gently patted her gloved hands on top of the soil, patting it down with just the right amount of pressure, so it wouldn't be too much or not enough. No suffocating of her fire seed, nope.

Oooh, it was time to go already. Since Amelia had already made sure to clean up her work station and put all her equipment away, all she had left to do was put her pot over by the bushes.
After putting away her goggles, she placed the dragonhide gloves back on. Carefully picking up her pot, she headed over to where she needed to be while making sure not to let any plants get near her. She might like them, but she didn't want to risk anything while carrying a pot that might break.
After setting the pot down so that her label showed clearly, she headed back to her station. She took her gloves back off again and placed them into her bag before lifting it over her shoulders. She said goodbye to the Professor and then made her way out of the greenhouses, the sunlight hurting her eyes slightly.
After planting the seed, Hades went to take a watering can. He returned to his place and pointed his wand through the opening of the watering can. "Aguamenti!" said he firmly before a jet of clear water came out from his wand into the watering can. After that, he pulled the wand out and pointed it to the watering can itself. "Chaudensis!" he said it clearly and waited for the water to boil.
After a few minutes, Hades peeked into the watering can and saw air bubbles started to form on the surface of the water. It was already boiling. Carefully, he poured a small, but not too small amount of water onto the soil. Just enough to make it damp.

Next, she referred on the spare parchment for the second step. After reading it, she stood up once more and headed to where the planting tools were placed. She picked up a trowel and a bucket She placed on her gloves and took trowelfuls of soil, pouring it into the bucket and once she was done, returned to her working area. She carefully transferred soil into the pot by means of the trowel and made sure that she filled half. She patted the soil lightly and waited.

Jezzabelle sighed and decided she had waited long enough to see if anything would go wrong with the seed just sitting there. It was time to cover it up with some top soil and get it ready to be watered. She went and checked her gloves...again...and proceeded to ever so carefully shovel soul into the pot.
With it all topped off nice and neat she softly applied pressure to pack the soil around the seed just not so much pressure that her poor little baby in the making would suffocate. That was the last thing she wanted to do to the little seed. She attacked her notes again when she was finished, crossing off the completed step. Looking at the last step she felt a little nervous but she wasn't there yet.

Once everything was ready for the fire seed, Eino made sure his gloves were safe. They were on correctly, and had no holes or any other damage that could potentially worsen by the fire seed's heat. He made his way to where the group of fire seeds were located and carefully picked one up. He used both hands to dig under the fire seed and once both were sharing its weigh Eino pulled it up. He lightly wrapped his fingers around it, making the seed completely secure in his hands. Eino could feel some of the heat being expelled by the fire seed, but not on his hands, those were perfectly secured by the dragon hide gloves. He returned to his pot, lowered himself carefully and cautiously placed the fire seed on top of the warm soil. It sat there neatly in the center, just waiting to be tucked in by some additional soil and quenched with boiling water.

Then finally, Sierra had come to the very last step of the process. Her favorite step, and the reasoning behind that had nothing to do with the actual step itself. It was because it was last, and Sierra had overheard that they were dismissed once they finished.
Sierra grabbed a hold of a watering can and aimed her wand inside of it. "Aguamenti!" she said, then watched as a steady stream of water shot into the can. Once the can was full enough, she ended the spell with "Finite!" then set to work heating the can. With her wand aimed toward the can, Sierra moved her wand around in the same circular movement they'd learned earlier in the class. "Chaudensis!" she said.
Then she was left with nothing to do but sit back and wait for the water to come to a boil. It seemed like it was taking forever, and Sierra even began fidgeting with the hem of her jumper as she waited and waited. Finally, she saw the bubbling water and knew it had come to a boil.
With her gloved hands, Sierra grabbed a hold of the can then raised it above her pot. She tilted it ever-so-slightly, not wanting to drown her seed. Starting over was just not her thing. Not when it was nearly time to go. When the soil appeared moistened, Sierra tilted the can back and away from the pot. After a good inspection of her work, she found everything to be the best of her ability. She fixed her name to the pot then cleaned her area.
Grabbing her pot, Sierra moved it to the area the professor had pointed out. After putting away her gloves and returning her goggles, Sierra swung her bag over shoulder and turned to the professor. "Bye, Professor Bentley," she said, and then with a wave, she was gone.

Adam now had to put soil on top of the seed.At first he began to pour all the soil in, but then when he double checked the assignment he relaxed he was doing the exact opposite that had been asked. Don't drown the seed. Take a step back. He began to madly dig up the seed, half of the soil creating a small lump on the side of the pot. After, he planted the seed in correctly, covering it so nicely it looked like he had blanketed the seed an it had fallen asleep.

Sophie took her pot over by the bushes and gently stroke the vine that seemed to wave at her. She smiled and went back to talk to Professor Bentley.
"Professor, when can we come back to visit them??" now that she could take care of her own little plants, she was excited about Herbology. "Do they ever need to be watered again or something? Can we do it?" she asked with her eyes sparkling. Her mum wasn't there to stop her from doing the fun stuff now! Hooray!

With the fireseed in place and nothing either burned up or injured, Gideon figured it was safe to move onto the next-to-last step in their assignment. He turned his attention to the bucket he still had with more dirt in it and began handful by handful dumping soil into the pot. It started to slowly but surely fill up and soon enough the level of the top of the dirt was near the brim of the vessel to which it was inside. He gave it a few ginger pats to pat the dirt down a little before once more brushing of his gloved hands.
Almost done.

Onto the last task, now he need to water the fire seed with boiling water.
"Hmm..Okay" So he need to perform Aguamenti first then? Messer pick up his wand and pointed it through the opening of the watering can. After a few minutes, she touched the soil. Warm. Warm. Warm? Yes, it was warm enough. The soil had clearly adapted the temperature of the pot that it was placed into.
Beezus looked back at her spare parchment and read the third step, "Carefully take a single fire seed with dragon hide gloves and place on top of the soil." Which means, it was time to get the seeds from Professor Bentley. Arranging the tools that she used earlier that they were now placed neatly on the side, she slid the dragonhide gloves on and walked towards the Herbology Professor. "Professor, I'll be taking a fire seed," she said and carefully, she picked up a single one from the tin. She then smiled at the Professor as she held the fire seed on her hand.
"Excuse me, coming through.. excuses.." Beezus mumbled while passing her classmates, just making them aware that she was currently clutching a fire seed on her little hand and to prevent any accidents to happen.
Once she was back on her working area, she bent down and slowly placed the single fire seed above the soil half filled pot. Then she took out her spare parchment and crossed out the third step, marking that she was done with it.
Text Cut: Spare Parchment
After having placed the fire seed in the bed of soil, Eino began to take small portions of the soil gathered next to the pot and add to it. He added little by little until the fire seed was completely covered, and then continued until the pot was filled. It was a little difficult working with the thick dragon hide gloves, but better to be safe than sorry. When he was done, he shook off the excess soil from his gloves before carefully patting down the soil in the pot. He wanted to make sure there was enough air for the seed to breathe, so he didn't want to pat too much. There was always the danger of adding too much soil and putting too much pressure on it, which could potentially cause the plant to suffocate. It would also cause the plant to dry and die fast because not enough water would reach it. Being fully conscious of this, Eino took all of the steps to prevent, thus having a healthy fire seed softly tucked in the soil.

Wait? What was the spell again. Adam was beginning to lose his memory in the class, an he wasn't sure why. But, at least he had his class notes, so his heart, which had momentarily stopped when he forgot which water charm to use, began to beat as normal as before.
"Hmmm...Aguamenti...Agua..Aguamenti...Aguamenti" There. A nice flowing jet of water spewed out of his wand an onto the can in which the seed was enveloped in. Checking to make sure the seed hadn't been drowned in water, Adam put one finger on the seed, which made him retreat quickly with the warmth, an felt it wet, obviously, but he then checked the soil. When he looked at his finger after touching it, his finger hadn't been dowsed in water. So he believed his job was done.
"Bye Professor." Adam said to Professor Bently, after having checked his area an cleaning up some of the water that had dropped onto the floor. He didn't want to cause any accident.

For boiling water, add water (via aguamenti) to the watering can and heat it. This will ensure you 1. control the temperature and 2. don't over water your seed. Use a VERY small amount, simply enough to moisten the soil.
