It was such a nice day outside, the weather was mild, not quite warm but not cold either, and it was perfect for the first lesson of the term. Seren stood just inside the entrance to greenhouse two, waiting for the students to arrive. It was fairly dark in here, with creeping ivy curling an crawling its way up the sides of the glass panels, but there was still enough light to see clearly.
Tapping her heel excitedly and stroking the moving tendrils of a nearby ivy, Seren waited patiently for the students to arrive. "Just form a group here please," she said to them indicating to the area just in front of her. Yes that's right... just stand there, no need for sitting just yet, or at all.
OOC: The lesson has officially started, do not announce yourself arriving from this point onward, just pretend as if you've been here the whole time. If you haven't done so already then please read through the Herbology Rules and Expectations and the SS Site Rules. All SS Board Rules apply. IC rule breaking will result in IC punishment, OOC rule breaking will result in OOC punishment. Please behave appropriately and most importantly... have fun. If you have any questions don't hesitate to send me a PM.
As the blackboard moved into place, Seren flicked her wand at the chalk sitting on its ledge and watched as it began to write up instructions in neat cursive writing.
"Now take a moment to read and note down these instructions, you'll need them soon enough," she said stepping to the side to let the light from the torches shine onto the blackboard.
After waiting a short while for students to write down these notes, Seren stepped forward to continue the lesson.
"Now before I get you to start the process, you first need to know how to perform the Chaudensis Charm. This will charm the pot to heat itself."
"Please DO NOT take out your wands just yet, I want you to practice the incantantion without the risk of blowing something up first..." she said eyeballing them all.
"Repeat after me... Chaudensis... Chaw-den-sis..."
Seren observed and listened as the students practiced the incantation.
OOC: Practice the INCANTATION ONLY. Lesson will resume in approximately 12 hours.
Justin saw as the professor revealed the instructions on the chalkboard. Then repeated the Chaundensis charm. " Chaw- den-sis. " He thought he said it right , but practiced a few more times to be sure of it.

Hannah quickly jotted down the notes on the blackboard. She was excited that they soon would be using their wands for the first time. She said the incantation a couple of times in her head to get the hang of it. Chaw-den-sis, Chaw-den-sis, Chaw-den-sis she repeated a million times. Ok now to say it out loud to see how it felt on her tounge. "Chaw-den-sis....Chaudensis." There she was definitely getting the hang of it now. She couldn't wait to say the incantation with her wand.

Ooooh they were finally doing something!
With a quick look at the instructions... she was already afraid of what might possibly happen with those fire seeds. But let's be positive.
She couldn't help but giggle silently at professor Bentley's advice, the one telling them to practice only the incantation, not to blow up anything. That would've been fun to see. But anyway. First listening, Nora started muttering "Chaw-den-sis... Chaudensis... Chaudensis..."

Whilst jotting down the notes on the blackboard, Kimalia repeated the spell "Chaw..den..sis..." "Chawden..sis" "Chaudensis."
SPOILER!!: Kimalia's notes
* Charm pot with Chaudensis to heat itself.
* Fill half of pot up with soil and let it rest for several minutes to warm up.
* Carefully take a single fire seed with dragon hide gloves and place on top of the soil.
* Cover fire seed with soil, so that pot is filled. Pat the soil down a little (not too much, you don't want to suffocate it).
* Water the fire seed with boiling water, without drowning it.

Cass flipped her parchment over as the first side was already filled with her messy scrawl and not for the first time, she wished that she was using her quill instead of this muggle pen, but it was the more practical choice at the moment - she didn't want her feather burning up with all the fire seeds in here. She made wrote down the other reminders Professor Bentley had before starting to copy the instructions on the board
SPOILER!!: instructions
1. Charm pot to heat itself.
2. Fill half of pot up with soil and let it rest for several minutes to warm up.
3. Carefully take a single fire seed with dragon hide gloves and place on top of the soil.

The she-snake brought her protective gear out of the bag and was about to snap her gloves on when the Professor mentioned an incantation. Something that needed to be practiced. Odd, aside from the trimming charm that she once learned, she couldn't recall another instance where she had learned a new spell during Herbology. This was certainly a refreshing change. She quickly wrote the spell down on her parchment before joining the class in chorus as they all practiced saying it.
"Chaw - den - sis." The blonde repeated "Chaw -den- sis...Chaudensis." Perfect. Or as perfect as she was going to get rather.

Resisting the urge to smirk, Seren simply nodded. "Well that is a good idea... I was asking more in terms of caring for the plant though."

Selina smiled at Professor Bentley when she took note of the small smirk tugging at the Head of her House's lips. Although her answer was more common sense she stood by her response. Personal health was an important branch of herbology. Oh yeah, she knew her stuff.
When the blackboard appeared with notes Selina took several seconds reading the directions. Her blue eyes flickered back up to Bentley when the woman talked about blowing things up. The fourth year was almost certain that she would not blow something up in this class. The only class that she did that on a normal basis was, well, potions.
With no wand she repeated, "Chaudensis...CHAUdensis... chauDENSIS.... chaudensis."
Salima listened to Professor Bentley for a while before repeting the incantation 'Chaw-den-sis... Chaw-den-sis... Chaw-den-sis... Chaw-den-sis...' once Salima had gotten the hang of it she tried to say it all together 'Chordesensis... Not quite yet' she muttered 'Chaw-den-sis... Chaw-den-sis... Chaw-den-sis... Chaw-den-sis...Chaudensis...Yes'

Reason: Getting rid of a quote
"Chaw-den-sis, chaw-den-sis, chaw-den-sis..." The boy chanted quietly as he copied the notes from the board to his notebook. It wasn't a particularly hard spell to pronounce but Eino continued to repeat it a little louder once he was done not-taking, just to look busy.
Chaudensis! A new charm! Gwen didn't know many charms, so this was exciting to her.
"Chaw-den-sis...chaw-den-sis...chaw-den-sis..." she repeated over and over again, tapping her thigh with her index finger at every syllable.
Grabbing her quill, Gwen started taking a few notes. Maybe it won't be so hard planting those things. Perhaps I won't even do anything wrong!, the Ravenclaw tried to encourage herself.
When she finished writing, the girl looked back at the Professor. So they were just practicing the incantation? That shouldn't be hard..., Gwen thought and noticed that almost everyone already started. 'Chaw--den--sis... chaw- den-sis- Chawdensis...', she said a few times.

SPOILER!!: Responses
"You're on the right track, but no we don't use manure for these seeds. Not until they're grown and even then only a minimal amount is required."
Seren nodded, yes obviously location was important for a number of reasons... but it wasn't quite what she was looking for, until..
"Ahh yes, certainly, the key is too keep the seed hot enough beneath the ground."
Erm.. "Well, yes, those are important, but I was asking about plant care not people safety." They had rules in place for that.
"It's generally a good idea to cool the seeds down before handling it, but in this case it would just place the seed at risk of not germinating."
Extinguish the fire?
Seren eyed her prefect. "Uhhh no, I wouldn't recommend that, the seed needs to be alight in order to survive and grow.... putting out the fire will only kill it."
"Ahh good point Kurumi, we most certainly do use water, but there's a trick to it, which we will get to," she said with a wink.
"You're on the right track, we don't actually fertilise fire seeds until they have germinated, and as for water, there's a special trick with that," she replied brightly.
"Sort of... we do use water, but there's a trick to keeping the seed active."
"Mm yes, that's why we have classroom rules, but I was thinking more along the lines of caring for the seed..." because plants were more important than students?
"Yes, excellent!"
"That's an interesting... and seemingly logical thought, though no, we do use water."
"Yes, that would be a very good idea..." following rules was sort of essential to not being kicked out of the classroom... but it still hadn't really answered her question. "I was asking more for what would benefit the seeds."
"Yes, I'm sure fire seeds... like others wouldn't appreciate being stepped on."
... Interesting response.
"Yes very good, temperature is something we definitely need to consider with these beauties."
"Yes, place is important, obviously fire seed bushes prefer dark, damp and more enclosed places."
... clearly. Or had the child not read the class rules before? "I was asking for from a caring for the seed or plant perspective."
Another SAFETY issue... "well yes dear, but I was asking how do we care for the seed or plant... not what's around it."
"That's an interesting point, but no we do use water... only there's a trick to it." Which they were going to learn today... obviously.
"You're sort of on the right track. Certainly the fire seed benefits from the darkness, but warm soil is essential for it to grow, as is water."
"Not a bad theory, but surprisingly, no, fire seeds need little nourishment."
"Yes! precisely, maintaining a high enough temperature for the seed to remain active is crucial to its growth."
"Not bad idea, but no... the fire seed requires very little nourishment."
"Nope, not in this case... we don't want to risk extinguishing the seed and thus killing it."
Seren smiled, amused by the idea. "I assure you dear the seed wouldn't be extinguished by moving too fast, the warmth radiates from within... it would take a lot more than a little bit of a breeze for it to burn out."
"Yes, very good."
"Yes, and no... it depends how you define special," she mused.
Resisting the urge to smirk, Seren simply nodded. "Well that is a good idea... I was asking more in terms of caring for the plant though."

He then proceeded to practice the incantation once he had written down the notes. "Chaw... Chaw........Den........ Sis. Chaw.....den.... sis. Chaw...den....sis. Chaw..den..sis. Chaw-den-sis. Chaw-den-sis. Chaw-den-sis." he practiced.. over and over again making sure that he had the incantation correctly "Chaw-den-sis. Chaw-den-sis. Chaw-den-sis. Chaw-den-sis"

Kourt quickly made note of the information on the board, and added a few notes in the care of fire seeds. They would have to be very careful with this particular lesson. It seemed as though the fire seeds could be just...a bit dangerous.
Her head rose and she smiled slightly as the professor requested that they repeat the incantation after her. No wands. Just the words. "Chaudensis... Chaw-den-sis...Chaudenis..." She said quietly, repeating the word over and over again.
Aurora copied down the instructions quickly, having to re-write bits of it because her rushed handwriting was so dire.

Then she put her quill away and began to practice the spell. "Caw- no... Chaw. Den. Sis. Chawdet... Chawdensis... Chaudensis." she carried on muttering to herself as she waited for Professor Bentley to carry on.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Daichi grabbed his quill from his bag and a piece of parchment. He looked at the blackboard to write the notes down but found out that he wasn't close enough. Maybe he should listen to his father that he needed glasses , but he didn't want them! "Professor Bentley?" he asked as he moved closer to the board. "I'm just moving so i can see what is written..." Better tell her that because he didn't want to lose points for walking around.
Finding a good spot at the front, Daichi smiled and scribbled down his notes. He placed his quill back in his bag and watched how the Professor summoned a cart of pots.

Now practise time right? "Choodensis... Chaoow-den-sis" that didn't sound right. The Slytherin looked around as he tried to catch the student's words. "Chau- chau -densis... Chaw-den-sis.." he muttered under his breath.

More note-taking. Blahhh. Sierra hated note-taking. She was more of a 'get up and do' kind of student and less of a 'sit down, listen quietly, and copy' kind of student. Despite that, she knew she better copy down the instructions now. Either that, or she'd be clueless come time for the practical. Dipping her quill in ink, Sierra wrote:
1. Charm pot to heat itself.
2. Fill half of pot up with soil and let it rest for several minutes to warm up.
3. Carefully take a single fire seed with dragon hide gloves and place on top of the soil.
4. Cover fire seed with soil, so that pot is filled. Pat the soil down a little (not too much, you don't want to suffocate it).
5. Water the fire seed with boiling water, without drowning it.
My Merlin! Sierra had barely copied down number five when the professor dashed on to some charm they'd need to know. Sierra pushed her notes to the side and looked up. Blowing up something? O_o If some Puffer blew up a pot anywhere in the vicinity she was working in, Sierra was ready and prepared to send a nice hex their way. Opening her mouth, she repeated, "Chaw-den-sis...Chaudensis."
Why did this remind her of that crazy professor they once had? The one who made them all yell, "SHAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!" She was glad Bentley wasn't making them do that today...
Gah! Why must there be a charm included in this, Jezzabelle thought as she scribbled down the direction for the task at hand...just in case she got bored later in the term and someone needed help planting their own Fire Seed Bush. Otherwise she would have never written anything down.
SPOILER!!: Jezzabelles paper
1. Charm pot to heat itself.

She sighed and decided it was safest to go ahead and practice saying the charm. "Chaudensis... Chaw-den-sis... Chaw-den-sis." Gah, again. She hated charms. It was just all to complicated. Couldn't she light a little fire to heat the pot? "Chaudensis. Chaudensis. Chaudensis." She stopped saying it feeling like she had said it enough. Enough to know she could say it and dislikes saying it.

Minerva had listened as they gave the care answers and wrote some down. Then it was time to copy the instructions down. She did this excitedly to get ready for some planting. Even though taking care of plants wasn't Minerva's best quality she still liked trying. She remembered planting a few things last term and then her face went a little pale.. I forgot to take care of them she thought to herself.. Ooops.. She shook it out of her mind and went back to coping the instructions. Next was to say the incantation. She readied herself and listened to the professor say it first. Then she started practicing the pronunciation of the word "Chaw-den-sis"

Ellie was kind of really glad that these plants weren't high maintenance. If they were, she probably would end up killing it. Merlin forbid she ever had children.
Pulling out her notebook, Ellie quickly scribbled all the directions from the blackboard down.

Oh, so boiling water was to be used. That made sense now. Ellie nodded to herself and understood the directions. She looked back up at Bentley for the next set of directions.
"Chaw-den-sis. Chaudensis. Chaauudensis. Chaudensis." Ellie mumbled to herself until she was sure she got it. Excellenteee.

Ooooh…they’re finally going to plant the seeds! Victoria, who has never see a full grown Fire Seed Plant, copied down the instructions with interested after reading it through carefully once.

Victoria surveyed the instructions oddly. She had never seen any other plants being potted like this one. The most interesting step was to boil the fire seed…or putting it in boiling water…whichever.
So there’s a spell for this also? What in the world is the Chaudensis Charm? If it’s a Herbology term, then it’s no wonder why Victoria had not heard of it. She followed the reciting with the rest of the class. “Chaaudinses…Chawdinses…Chaw-den-sis…Chaudensis”
Sophie copied the instructions down and looked back up to the professor. "Ooooo, there's a spell!" she thought happily. Sophie was really looking fowward into learning as many spells as she possibly could!
"Chaw-den-sis. Chaw-den-sis! Chaudensis! Chaudensis!" she kept on repeating it over and over.
