When not in use for classes, several of the greenhouses that are located on the school grounds are open for private and independent research and study. In fact, this is highly encouraged.
Within the unlocked doors of the greenhouses you will find rows and rows of plants. The greenhouses contain a wide variety of plants - both magical and mundane. Want to practice your pruning skills? Why not practice on the Abyssinian Shrivelfig of a Flutterby Bush? Or perhaps you want to harvest some Puffapod seeds- just don’t drop them! -- unless you want to of course.
In the cupboards you will find several shelves containing any equipment you might find yourself needing: trowels, cultivators, shears, protective goggles and the like. Also, in case you forgot your own, there is a cupboard which contains work robes and gloves in various sizes. As usual, you can find the fertilizer in a heap behind the greenhouses.
Remember Professor Bentley likes to take regular strolls through the greenhouse to check on things. So make sure you wear your protective gear and behave yourselves accordingly.

Amethyst scanned over the list again and blushed as she saw what was next.
Singing and dancing.
The was certainly going to be slightly hard for her, she is quite shy. And the fact that it was for a plant made it worse! What if it didn't like it? She shook her head of these thoughts. Alright, she thought. But what song...?
She gasped as she thought of the perfect song.
She cleared her throat as she began to sing.
"I lost my heart. My home is the ocean. The waves underneath will soon be my home; I will fall asleep. I'll close my eyes and dream of days when I wasn't all alone.
All that I know is gone; take what is left of me now. All that I know is gone; take what is left of me. Fall deeper and deeper, the sirens are singing your songs."
As she sung this, she did a twirling motion, closing her eyes as she let the music drive her through it all. It was sort of like ballet, with a bit of interpretive dance.

Glenn scrambled around her work space were she had dumped put her stuff. She knew she had put the story here somewhere. She finally found it underneath her gloves, perhaps she should make a resolution to be neater.
She brushed the soil of the front cover, and opened the well worn book. Her mother had read the tales to her when she was little. "The Tales of Beedle the Bard" was emblazoned across the cover. Glenn flicked through the pages until she found her favourite tale; The Fountain of Fair Fortune. She had even named her kitten after one of the characters in the story, Amata.
She started reading, pulling up a chair and sitting down all while reading to her little plant. She gave the characters different voices, the females higher ones and the knight a low gruff voice. When she finished, she closed the book gently.
"Night, night little plant." She said, placing her plant back with the others. "See ya Ivy." She said patting it and nearly getting pulled over like she had in class, she swatted them away, somewhat kindly.
She gathered her gardening equipment and hauled it over her shoulder. She walked out of the greenhouse, brushing of her robes and hoping she had done a good enough job with her plant.

Right. Done with singing. Now he needed...blood and bone mix? YUCK. That didn't sound pleasant at all! Still, he headed over to the cupboard as outlined in instructions and grabbed a pinch. He walked back over to his plant and put his dragonhide glove on his left hand, dropping the mixture he'd just picked up into that hand so he could drop it in without burning himself. He reached over and craned his neck so he could see clearer. He moved his hand until it was near the base of the bush, JUST missing the fire-y bit, and he sprinkled the mixture at the base.

They had to sing to a plant?! Silvia didn’t know plants needed music, but oh well, she had to if she wanted credit for her homework, right? Silvia wasn’t the best singer and wasn’t even quite sure what kind of music plants liked to listen to. Many of her favorite songs weren’t in English, but she didn’t know if these plants understood other languages, or even if they cared whether they understood the song or not. But just to be safe, she racked her brain for a good English song.
SPOILER!!: Song
(ooc: Desert Garden by Helen Trevillion)
you are air, you are rain
falling on my eyes
wash away, wash away
smoke in jaded skies
all I want, all I want
is the candlelight in me -
so alive, so alive -
only to be freed
and all the lies inside will unfold
and leave my desert garden open wide
I'm not afraid of the night
on the other side
you and I, you and I
what amazing lives we lead
we are seeds, we are seeds
holding everything
and I breathe, now I breathe
all the things in you I love
so alive, so alive
you have shown me that
the light unborn inside will awaken
and will leave my garden open wide
and I'm not afraid of the midnight
on the other side
I'm not afraid of the night
I'm not afraid of the night
Silvia swayed and twirled around as she sang. “I hope that’s good enough,” she said when she finished.

LuLu walked into the second greenhouse holding many notes from the first herbology class.. picking one praticular note up, homework.. she read through the first action f her homework.. Okay she could do that.. she.. she could talk to the ivy! "Excuse me, but would you very dearily block the sun from my plant here.. Please," she smiled at the ivy sweetly enough
Angelina was very happy to go check out her plant she planted the other day in Herbology. Walking a little fast than she normally does she headed towards her plant. For not being in the greenhouse for a few days, if seemed a little darker then it was a few days ago.
Once she finally arrvied at the plants she looked at it for a little while. A smile then came upon her face. "You doing alright," she asked her plant. Of coruse with the plant not responding she ignored it. Angelina then remembered to check if the ivy was covering the sun enough. Looking up she looked to see the ivy wasn't covering in as much. In her shy way she patted the ivy a little and said, "Umm... can... can you maybe block this part for me a little? she waited and looked up at it. After a while she saw the ivy beinning to move to cover the spot a little. "Thank you!" Angelina said to the ivy with a wide smile. She felt a bit weird talking to plants, who cant say anything back, but that was alright, she was a fun adventure.

Amelia always liked it when she stepped into the greenhouses, because she could smell all the plants and the soil and she really enjoyed it. Weird, since she usually didn't like getting dirty... but she liked flowers and plants and gardening none-the-less. :33
Searching among the pots, she found her neatly labelled one and frowned at the fact that her poor fire seed bushling was getting too much sun. She needed to fix that before something bad happened and it died. She went closer to her pot and saw that the soil was still fine, so it was obvious that the Ivy hadn't moved too long ago. This was good, because it meant that she didn't have to worry too much about her plant.
"Excuse me, Mister or Miss Ivy," (because you couldn't really tell the gender of plants and didn't want to be rude). "Can you please move over a bit so that my fire seed bushling isn't in the sunlight?"
She waited now, and was happy when she saw that the Ivy started to move, and in a few moments her fire seed bushling was in the shade again. "Thank you!" She hugged the plant now. :33
Since the ivy seemed to have moved for her she smiled at the ivy presuming the ivy saw her.. She thought 'it' was rude so the ivy was the way she introduced the ivy.. "Better?," talking to the fire seed bush of course.. she looked at the list again and nodded
"Emmm...,"
She then spotted a wateringcan and went over and picked it up, then she put her dragon hide glives and goggles.. just in case.. she then took out her wand "Aguamenti," Did it.. work?? She looked inside it "Chawdensis," she waved her wand again.. and poured some onto her plant
Ira was just about to leave the greenhouse, when she remembered that she had yet to water her plant. And then she remembered from her Herbology lecture that fire plant could only be given boiling hot water.
She looked around for some container or some watering cans. There, they were on the low shelf at the side. She went there and got one. Taking her watering can, she went to the table present and kept her can on it. Taking out her wand from its holster, "Aguamenti!" she muttered. And surprise! Water began coming out of the tip of her wand, and that to in her first attempt itself! This was good! She remembered that they just had to give little water to the plant, so she just filled it a little.
Now for the boiling part. "Chaudensis" she muttered doing the appropriate wand movement. And then she touched the can. It was heating up, rather fast. Maybe because of the less amount of water present inside.
Then the water stated boiling. She picked up her can and went towards her fire plant. She remembered that Professor Bentley had instructed them to only put a few drops. So likewise, she did the same. She gave it just a light sprinkling of water.
"Is this much okay?" she whispered and asked to her plant. "Or do you need more? But Professor Bentley told us to give you just little! Anyways Bye! I'll come again tomorrow, promise!" Saying so, Ira kept the watering can in its original place, and left the greenhouse.

Since her bushling was now in a nice shaded area, Amelia knew that she could safely move on to the next step in caring for her baby plant.
She headed over to where the watering cans were being kept and grabbed one. Heading over to a table, she placed the can on the surface before taking out her wand, goggles, and dragonhide gloves. Once the gloves were on her hands and the goggles over her eyes, she picked up her wand. "Aguamenti," she said as she pointed her wand inside the watering can. She let a bit of water fill the bottom of the can before she stopped. Now she said, "Chaudensis," and saw her water start to boil.
Walking over to her bushling, she started to carefully sprinkle it with water.
Angelina looked at her fire seed plant and realized it might want so water! After spotting a watering can she took it and took out her wand and said, "Aguamenti." Now time to have the water boil, "Chawdensis" After talking her wand and putting it in her pocket she held the watercan up above her plant and watered it. After she thought it was watered good enough, she put it down and smiled at her plant, "There now your good for now, with the water"

When there was no more water in the can, Amelia headed back over to where the watering cans came from, returning hers then heading back to her table. She took off her dragonhide gloves and goggles as she didn't need them for the moment.
Protective wear wasn't needed when she was going to be entertaining her bushling.
Walking right back over to her pot, she stood in front of it and tried to think of a song that she could sing for it. Bon Jovi for sure, she decided for a moment. Because he was amazing and made her happy; she wanted to share her love for Bon Jovi with her plant.
She cleared her throat before she started singing and dancing around her pot in circles, going as enthusiastically as possible.

There's something about you
I want to rescue
I don't even know you
So what does that mean
Maybe I'm cynical
I'm painfully logical
You're tragic and beautiful
And that's good enough for me
You're looking for a hero, but it's just my old tattoo
Tonight I swear I'd sell my soul to be a hero for you
Who's going to save you
When the stars fall from your sky
And who's going to pull you in
When the tide gets too high
Who's going to hold you
When you turn out the lights
I won't lie I wish that I
Could be your superman tonight
If somebody sent you
An angel to save you
What would you tell him to turn him away
That your heart don't break
That your lips don't kiss
That life is just a lie
That heaven don't exist?
Who's going to save you
When the stars fall from your sky
And who's going to pull you in
When the tide gets too high
Who's going to hold you
When you turn out the lights
I won't lie I wish that I
Could be your superman tonight
Who's going to fix you
The next time you break down
Stranded alone by the side of the road
It's your baggage that's dragging you down
Don't look back
Let it go
Ohhh, Ohhhhh
Who's going to save you
When the stars fall from your sky
And who's going to pull you in
When the tide gets too high
Who's going to hold you
When you turn out the lights
I won't lie I wish that I
Was that superman
Who's going to save you
When the stars fall from your sky
And who's going to pull you in
When the tide gets too high
Who's going to hold you
When you turn out the lights
I won't lie I wish that I
Could be your superman tonight
Now that the ivy had done its job, though Sel didn't quite trust it completely. She gave the thing a pat anyways, not that she enjoyed it or anything because the plant was still creepy and probably going to eat them all. 'Hey ivy... please... don't eat me," she muttered before she looked at her hastily scribbled instructions. Water the plant. Right. Boiling water that is. Which meant she'd need to go get a watering can.
Selena picked up a watering can with a gloved hand and pulled out her wand. "Aguamenti," Selena cast as water spewed from the tip of her wand into the can with a whooshing sound. When it was about full, Selena stopped and looked at the can. Time to boil some water, she supposed. "Chaudensis," Selena said. The water started to heat up slowly and she peered over the top of the watering can, waiting for it to finish boiling.
She wondered what it would be like if someone painted the watering can like an elephant. That would be- oh done boiling. Smiling, Selena picked it up, tipping it over a little to sprinkle the pot of soil with a little water. "There, now you can make food," Selena said proudly, scratching that part up with a quill. Maybe she'd just stare at the plant for now, that sounded like fun - it would probably grow faster too since it would be getting an awful lot of attention.

It was almost dinnertime, when Ira entered the greenhouse. She had just wanted to check up on her plant today as she had promised it yesterday. She had had a tiring day, but then what could be more refreshing than talking to her very own plant?
Today her fire plant sprout seemed a little down. Maybe it was because its life was so much dull. Ira should do something about it. She wondered what she could do? Sing a song to it? But then wouldn't that seem a little silly? Anyways Ira decided, this is the best and only option I have of cheering him up a little!
So she began wondering about what song she could sing to it.. A lullaby? Yes, that would be good! But the problem was that she didn't know any! So what else? "You don't mind if I sing just a random song, right?" she asked the sprouting plant. Saying so, Ira thought about singing 'Lovelier than thou' She informed the seedling, "I am going to sing you the song 'Lovelier than thou' sung by BOB! alright? And yeah, its a muggle song I learnt over this summer! So lets start!"
She began the song..
Maybe one day we can go
Hand in hand down a golden road
And if i get there before you go
I'll be waiting at the door
And Ira, lost in the mood, began twirling around the plant..
In the future hopefully
Well be together you and me
Dont you worry baby please
'Cause honestly
As the song progressed, Ira was more into the mood, and by now, her voice was loud enough!
If i could rewind both the hands of time
Still i would never find a lovelier design than you
Nothings lovelier than you, nothings lovelier than you
Nothings lovelier than you, nothings lovelier than you
She danced round and round the plant, happy... And it seemed like the plant too was gently swaying to her rhythm! That was awesome! Now Ira was truly happy
But then she didn't know the rest of the song, but that was okay.. Her aim had been fulfilled. The fire plant was now looking more cheerful than it was earlier!
Post #4 - Sprinkling blood and bone mix around the base

Amelia hadn't been finished with her singing and dancing after the original song, so she decided to do Adele's Set Fire to the Rain as a second number. But finally she stopped her dancing as her throat was starting to hurt and her legs were getting tired.
She went and put her gloves and goggles back on now before heading to the store cupboard. Taking out the small bag of blood and bone mix, Amelia headed back to her bushling.
Taking out a pinch of the mix, she sprinkled it in the soil around her plant's base being very careful as she did so.
When she was sure that she had placed a sufficient amount she took the bag back to the store cupboard.
Later in the evening Isaac entered the greenhouse quietly, looking around hoping no one else was in the greenhouse with him. Seeing no one he sighed with relief, walking towards the back. It wasn't so late that he'd get into trouble for being there, but it was after dinner. Moving his fireseed bush to a table in the middle of the room, so there was plenty of room to dance, he glanced around one last time to make sure no one was there to watch.
His mum had made sure he knew how to dance, and actually was quite good at many different types of dancing. He was just really embarrassed and afraid his friends might find out and tease him horribly! Singing a song he'd known since he was a child, that his grandmum had sang to him so many times, he start dancing slowly and swanging to the words, as he danced around and around his bush. Once in awhile even touching the soil and the tiny little sprout that'd finally emerged as he sang.

There's something about ye

Determined and sure
Giving in every way
Knowing jus' what te say
There's something about ye
Thet lightens the darkest day
There's something about ye
Look here can you feel it
There's something about ye
Ferociously kind
Bravely defined
Hopeful but thet's one part
Daring with all yer heart
Something about ye that's
Been with ye from the start
Yer touch brings the world a welcome glow
How ye make the gardens grow
Have ye noticed do ye know?
Yer voice gentle, trusting, calm, and fair
Anywhere and everywhere
Yer the friend who's always there
There's something about ye
There's something about ye
Who could've seen it
Can ye believe it
Something about ye
Something about ye
Look what ye've sewn
Look how ye've grown
Who thought ye'd get this far
Now I know who ye are
There's something about ye
Knowing ye're not alone
Something about ye
Something about ye
Something I've always known
Post #5 - Reading the bushling a bedtime story and saying goodnight
♥s her SS family l Wifey is MINE | Naughty Niffler l Whittysaur l #awkwardturtle<#
Placing her gloves and goggles back on the table, Amelia grabbed her copy of Tales of Beedle the Bard from her bag. She needed to read her little bushling a bedtime story now before she said goodnight to it.
She sat cross-legged in front of her fire seed bushling and opened her book now, going straight to one of her favourite stories, The Fountain of Fair Fortune. She kept her voice soft and tried to ease her plant into sleep now. hehe
When she was done her story, she closed the book. "Goodnight, my little bushling. Sleep tight."
Getting up she gathered all her stuff together and then headed out of the greenhouse and back to the castle.
She had spoken to Leafy Ivy - and she had also touched it! - she had watered it. Now, the professor seemed to want them to... dance... and sing... for a plant? For what reason?! Selena looked at her scrap of paper from all angles, just to make sure she was reading it correctly. Had she written it wrong? It couldn't possibly be true. Selena gulped, sighed and looked at the little plant.
"Sorry, if your tiny nonexistent ears burst, blame the professor, okay?" Selena said, looking down at the little plant. Yup. Because it wasn't Selena's fault.
She cleared her throat.

Ooh lovely as you are

The sky can't shut you down
The facture all over me

As Selena sang to the little plant, which she now named Stumpy, she danced awkwardly around it. Yes. Awkwardly. It just included a lot of flailing of the arms and some lazy "moves" such as walking around and hopping. Yup. Okay. There. done.
Selena stared down the plant. "There you go, Stumpy, you got a song, I think you ought to sing me one someday," Selena said, sticking her tongue out at the plant. Yes. Because plants singing was definitely possible and very much logical.

She walked over to the cupboard by the entrance and found the bag of blood and bone mix. She cringed slightly as she saw it. Blood and Bone mix..? What in Merlin's Beard. She took a pinch of the mix and sprinkled it around the base.
LIP BITE! Of course she wasn't going to do it without at least a small burn. She chuckled shaking her head as she shook her hand slightly.

Melanie found what she thought would be an ideal location for her Fire Seed. She had grown quite fond of the little guy through this whole process and she wanted to make sure he was comfortable. Her mother always said she got attached to things far too quickly, that she had a 'bleeding heart'. Melanie knew it was true. She even went so far as to name some of these inanimate objects that she unwittingly acquired an affection for. Her Fire Seed's name was Artemis, for instance.
"Now, let's see here," she mumbled to herself, positioning the pot just so, "I think it might still be a touch too bright for you here..." Melanie looked around and noticed a patch of clear glass where the ivy had not stretched that was allowing light to reach her pot. Well that simply would not do.
"Er...excuse me? Um...Ivy?" Melanie wasn't quite sure of the proper way to address a sentient plant. "Could you kindly block more of that light out...there?" she asked, pointing toward the offending spot.
Just as she was considering the futility of pointing when ivy doesn't have eyes, the vines began to creep across the glass, closing the gaps of white with green.
"Wow..." she breathed as she watched this seeming impossibility occur in front of her eyes. "Thank you...Ivy," she said awkwardly, giving the recently grown-in area a couple light pats of gratitude.

Now that that bloody bone stuff or whatever it was was sprinkled at the base of his plant, it was time to do the last step. Luckily, Alex had happened to read "Goodnight, Moon" so many times when he was young, he had the whole thing memorized.
He read the whole thing aloud to his plant, word for word, and then packed up his things, getting ready to go. "Take care, little fire seed bushling!" he said to the plant. "And you, Ivy, stay RIGHT THERE and take care of the little guy for me, ok?" he added, looking at the plant.
Before he walked out, he was almost sure he'd seen the plant nod in understanding.

Kurumi removed her bag from on top of her pot and peeked in to check on the fireseed. Everything looked alright, but the soil was looking a little too dry. Still without her gloves on, but after having put her googles on just to be safe, Kurumi slowly lowered her hand into the pot and poked the soil. Merlin, it was really REALLY dry, almost like straw. But, maybe it was supposed to be that way? She was tending to a fireseed after all. Things were supposed to be...hot.
"I'll be right back," Kurumi told the seed in the pot as she headed over towards the shed to retrieve an empty watering can. Returning to her pot, Kurumi set the watering can down and removed her wand from her pocket and held it over the opening. "Aguamenti," she whispered so as not to disturb others, or the sleeping fire seeds. A stead stream came out of her wand and poured into the watering can. Just like in class, Kurumi filled the watering can until it was halfway filled. "Finite," she said with a small flick of her wand. She lowered her wand inside the watering can again and drew a circle before saying the incantation, "Chaudensis."
Now all she could do was wait for the water to boil. So, Kurumi folded her robes and legs under her and took a seat beside her pot as she continued to hum. "La la la la la la la la la la la," she murmured. After a few more moments, Kurumi heard the tinging noise of the water boiling against the metal and she knew that the water was ready. Kurumi now put her gloves on and picked up her watering can, leaning it over the pot ever so slightly and sprinkling it over the soil. The moment Kurumi heard a fizzle, she knew that was enough and immediately set the watering can down. Pointing her wand at the watering can now, Kurumi cast Finite to prevent the water from boiling over.
Now...what came next? Kurumi pulled out her homework parchment to take a look.

Her father would read it to her before bed. Tears filled her eyes, thinking about her parents, but she quickly wipped her eyes. Taking a deep breath, she began reading to her plant. Reading about the young girl who kept to her dreams to escape the reality of her life. Who was raised by a horrible step-mother, and worked as her servent. But she ended up finding her one true love, and living happily ever after.
After finishing her book, she sighed happily. "Wasn't that a great story?" She asked her plant. The plant wiggled in response. Well, she thought it wiggled. It could have been a small breeze coming through. But Pam took it as a happy response. Smiling down at the plant, she couldn't help but feel happy. She had been given a responsibility, and she had taken very good care.
"Good night my little plant." She said, soothingly. Giving a small wave, she packed up her things, and left.
A song? A song? Angelina wasn't really good and new with all the songs out now... oohh what would she sing?? Really the only time she got into music was when she went to her grandfathers house and broke out the very old music great-grandparents used to have. She really didn't take her time to listen to music otherwise. To busy doing things witch realted. She remembered her favorite song she could her once in a while on her grandfathers old music player.
"Somebody loves you, I want you to know
Longs to be near you where ever you go
Somebody loves you and right from the start
Happiness flew into someone's heart
Somebody loves you each hour of the day
When you're around dear or when your away
Somebody loves you sweetheart, can't you see?
And that somebody is me"
Once she was done she took a deep breath and looked at her Fire Seed. It wasn't to great, but it was something, right? [/B]"I'd give you some dance moves, but I would fall and break a bone," [/B] She really wasn't great at dancing at all, so that was the safe thing to do. "Hoped you enjoyed a little song! I never sing to anyone, even myself, so your the special one for right now!" She said to the plant with a smile.

Heading into the greenhouse a couple days after the Herbology lesson, as specified by the homework announcement, Stella glanced at the notes she'd taken regarding the assignment before she got too far inside that she wouldn't be able to see. If the fire seed bushlings didn't like sunlight, she had a feeling wandlight wouldn't be too welcome either, so checking it at the door was better.
SPOILER!!: assignment
1. Ensure that it is in a dark enough area of Greenhouse 2. If not, then kindly ask the Ivy to block a bit more of the light out. Don't forget to thank it and give it a pat or a hug.
2. Give your Fire Seed a LIGHT sprinkling of water. Remember it has to be boiling hot water.
3. Sing a song to your Fire Seed and dance in circles around it. All plants need some entertainment for development.
4. In the stored cupboard by the entrance of the greenhouse you will find a small bag of blood and bone mix. Take a pinch of it and sprinkle it around the Bushling's base. Try not to burn yourself.
5. Read the Fire Seed Bushling a bedtime story of your choice and wish it sweet dreams.
Once she was sure of what she needed to do, she headed deeper into the greenhouse to locate her pot. Glancing at all of them, she finally found the one she'd labeled as hers and slid it deeper into the corner. The shadows seemed darker here, so that meant it should be better for her plant. Even though the shadows seemed pretty consistent, she glanced at the ivy on the glass panels nearby just in case. "Could you make sure that it stays really dark right here, s'il vous plaît?," she asked kindly, reaching a hand out to gently stroke the leaves closest to herself and her pot. Ther wasn't too much light, but she wanted to cover her bases. Befriending the ivy now might mean it would keep her plant safe after she'd gone, after all.
