Welcome to Hogwarts! You enter and leave the castle through two great oak front doors to stand in the majestic Entrance Hall. There are numerous doors and staircases leading off from the hall as well as the four house points hourglasses
No pawshake? Pooooout. Louisa kept her hands under the cat and she smiled down at Sam, "Thank you for the help, Sam. You were really nice." Yes, she was saying this to a younger student. And smiling as she said this. See? She wasn't all bad.
"If you need anything around the school, you can ask me." Like a tourguide, perhaps? Or someone older who bullied him? She had lots of joke products for defense, you know. OR! "I can help with homework, too. Just don't be shy." Flashing another grin at the quiet nice snake boy. Yep, Sam. She was going to remember this name. "You said you had class to attend?" She could help him get there early.
Sammy just looked at the girl as she pouted. A lot of girls seemed to do that. He had no idea what he'd done wrong though. "Um--you're welcome...and thanks." He thought back to what that mean boy had said at the feast about not thinking Slytherins were nice. He didn't see why he couldn't be nice AND a Slytherin. This was exactly why he wasshould be a Puff.
Sam smiled up at her. "Thanks. I'll keep that in mind..." Even though he would rather explore everything himself. It was more fun that way...but the homework thing. He might have to take advantage of that. "Again, thanks." Oh right. His little white lie. "Yeah...um...I think it was Charms."
Max was a people-watcher. He liked to know what was going on without being directly involved in things. During the first few weeks of school, he knew the ground floor would be full of excitement: first years trying to decide where to explore, students curious to see who the first house would be to take the lead in the house point race, and groups running outside to enjoy the nice fall weather. It was perfect for seeing who was secretly dating whom and to catch little bits of gossip as people passed.
Now, Max wasn't a gossiper himself nor did he care enough to share any overheard information, but he still liked to invest interest in the lives of his fellow students, even if they didn't know he knew anything. He simply took great pleasure in sitting in a classroom and knowing why two former best friends were avoiding eye contact or why two people were catching each other's eyes and smiling from different sides of the room.
It was just stimulating to be knowledgeable over others' excitement and drama since he had none of his own.
For such reasons, Max decided not to wander out to the grounds to read The Noble Sport of Warlocks in his hand today. Not yet, at least. It was prime people-watching time. As people moved by, Max stepped to the side and leaned against the wall, acting as though he was waiting for someone. Or taking a breather from adventuring down the many staircases from the Ravenclaw common room. Either way, Max let himself look interested in the hourglasses on the wall adjacent to him, casually bending his legs in and out to stretch them. It was a lot of stairs.
Back from the grounds. From the cold grounds. So, really, the castle felt incredibly warm to his skin. His pace had also slowed down considerably as soon as he was past the oak doors.
Treyen's eyes were immediately on the one person that stood still. Why? Because it seemed incredibly odd that the Ravenclaw boy was staring so intently at the hourglasses when they were all at zero points. There was nothing to be looking at...yet they held some peace and uncertainty at the same time, come to think of it.
"It feels like we're not even back at Hogwarts." He suddenly said, standing next to the boy, "To see them before all the competition begins." Then he gestured at the oh-so-empty hourglasses. He was slightly right, it felt as if they were frozen in a moment of summer when no students were at the castle. He supposed that's what they looked like over the break.

Honestly, Max was kind of disappointed that the sapphire hourglass was empty at the bottom. Even though he had done nothing to help the cause either, he felt like it was the job of a Ravenclaw to go out of the way and score a few bonus points before classes began. Ah, well. As long as none of the other houses have any points yet either...
...
Max's eyes shot open to the size of golf balls. A voice was speaking on the other side of him. One that he had never spoken to in his life. But he still knew it.
It was the voice of none other than the Head Boy. Ellie's love interest. Significant other. Boyfriend. Something.
A bit cautiously, he turned his head, hoping there was a student Max had never met who just happened to have a similar voice to Treyen. Unfortunately, that was not the case. "Treyen," he responded with a small smile, trying not to sound surprised. "It's nice to see you." That was an okay thing to say, wasn't it? Was that weird? Was it bizarre for him to say it was nice to see someone he had never directly met? What was the proper etiquette in greeting someone you knew so much about but avoided speaking to like it was a sport?
"Nice Head Boy badge. I mean- congratulations. I... um, did you have a good summer?" That was a good space filler. Yeah. He was doing all right. The warmth in his cheeks indicated otherwise.

Since his eyes were busy looking up at the hourglasses, then he completely missed the boy's reaction to his voice. Not that he was expecting any reaction, really.
It was his time to act surprised, because the Ravenclaw one treated him like...they've known each other forever. And failed to comment on what he'd said, which was kind of a let down. The Head Boy was about to lean against the wall behind them but...didn't. Instead, he decided to let the confusion show in his face a liiiittle bit, and tilted his head to one side. "I...don't think we've officially met." And there was nothing wrong with that. It was just awkward that he didn't know his name. He wasn't a total stranger, though, for he's seen him before on the Pitch, "You were the Ravenclaw Keeper last term, weren't you?" Treyen certainly hoped he was right.
And the badge? Yeah, he was still having issues with it, even after what had happened at Hadley's office. So, his eyes fell on it for a few seconds as he replied, "Yeah, thanks." Honest. Thanks. He just...had a bunch of things to take care of...still. And he was standing at the Entrance Hall instead of focusing on them.
Summer? That topic brought a smile to his lips, and made Treyen look at the Ravenclaw again. "An excellent summer. Yours?" How could it not had been excellent when it involved his best friends, his girlfriend and getting that pretty looking Apparition license.

Max's body stiffened as Treyen responded. "Right." They hadn't met. "Uh, sorry. I'm... Max." He just kind of hoped they could skip the whole 'introducing' awkwardness and pretend like everything was cool. But. Obviously Treyen knew much less about Max than Max knew about Treyen because he had to confirm that he was the Ravenclaw Keeper? Max almost sighed. It was nice to know Ellie never talked to her boyfriend about her best friend.
His self-esteem was heavily declining, making his ability to proceed in his conversation with the Head Boy much more difficult.
The redness still rising in his cheeks, Max eyed the badge once more. It was the kind of thing dreams were made of. At least Treyen seemed like the kind of guy who wouldn't abuse his power. "I'm glad your summer was so good." Since clearly Treyen was uncomfortable with acting as though they already knew each other, Max didn't question further as to why it was so 'excellent.' "Mine was good, too." He was kind of lying. He hated summers. He'd much rather spend his time at school for the entire year, every year. But he wasn't going to give Treyen a reason to ask why it wasn't up to par. Brief was good.

How come he had the feeling that there was something else the Ravenclaw boy was thinking but failed to say it out loud? Whatever it was, there was nothing Treyen could do about it, considering they were barely meeting anyway.
He was Head Boy, though, and if Max needed help with something, then he'd be glad to help...so, Max was his name.
"Nice to officially meet you, Max." He said, with a smile and one single nod. And why was it nice to officially meet? "You're a pretty good Keeper, by the way, just as good as Victoria...you know, Bunbury? The Slytherin Keeper from last year." Actually, all Keepers were incredibly talented. Probably reason one for not attempting to be Chaser. And, yes, what he'd said was a compliment, but he had rambled for no apparent reason.
"Trying out again?" You know, for Quidditch.
Why was Max blushing ever-so-lightly? It wasn't hot, then again, he'd just stepped inside the castle.
So he also had a very good summer. "Makes it kind of difficult to begin school when the summer has been a good one, right?" He should agree, considering the answer that was given to Treyen.

Max nodded and gave Treyen a smile, returning the sentiment. It... was kind of good to get the meeting out of the way, wasn't it? That way, if Max ever had to knock him out for hurting Ellie, the introduction would already be out of the way.
JUST as good as Victoria Bunbury? While Max was outwardly humble, he knew the statistics from last term. All the same, he figured it was meant to be an honor and smiled genuinely this time. "Thanks! Your team - as a whole - was really dynamite last term. Kita was fast." And lucky. "Think you guys can pull off another powerful term?" Of course he was trying out again. Ellie needed him. "You know it. You as well, I'd imagine?"
...Right, school. Hard to adjust to it. Max forced a smile. "Yeah. Definitely. But it still feels like home." Luckily, Max knew this would be the last summer he would have to have a conversation like this. He already had brilliant plans for next summer. He would actually get to SEE Ellie! That word 'summer' would have a lot less of a painful meaning to him.

Now the smile was getting bigger by the second. So far, the only odd Ravenclaw he's heard about was Jacob. He never met the guy, so he couldn't make an opinion on him, but he'd gotten in trouble for messing up with a Huffie.
AH. No, Max got it wrong. But Treyen still chuckled lightly at his words as he leaned against the wall. "Not my team." No. It was Hufflepuff's team. "My house's team. There's a difference. But, thank you, you guys were incredible." Treyen didn't own a Quidditch team, see? And he still took everything that was said to him rather literal. Like before he started Hogwarts.
Nod. And a slight blush. Kita was fast. She was also tough, and knocked him off his broom at that last game. No comments were made.
Pull off another powerful term? "Actually, Max...," he was being entirely honest, so get ready, "...what I think doesn't matter much. A team must be chosen first, and then practices need to be held...ask me that same question after Hufflepuff has played two games and I'll answer it. What I think still won't matter, except to those who wish to know." There was wisdom right there.
The Head Boy was being honest, though, because right now they had no team, so, there was no point.
Max was trying out, yes? Awesome. "The Ravenclaw Captain will be happy to see your name on the try outs board, I'm sure." Funny how he failed to say 'girlfriend'. "I'm trying out this time." Unlike last year. "And hoping to get a spot on the team." You never knew, new talent was always around the corner.
Home? Treyen smiled oh-so-nicely, "It'll always be home." And...Gryffindor just lost points. Niiiiice.

Max found Treyen to be very... baffling. Yes, it was technically his house's team, but HE was a part of it! Max thought it was weird for Treyen to be so picky toward his word choice. He felt as though Treyen was trying too hard to be humble and wise. "Okay..." he responded slowly, shrugging his shoulders and looking away from Treyen for the time being.
It was so bizarre, talking to Ellie's boyfriend. He... didn't seem to be anything like Ellie. Max believed Ellie would have burst with optimism and pride for her team, even if she hadn't been captain, and 'challenged,' in a lighthearted tone, the opposition to dare to beat them. Treyen's lack of outspoken optimism was a bit disheartening. Good, maybe. Maybe he knew something about the Hufflepuff students Max didn't know. Max, on the other hand, had the utmost confidence in the Ravenclaw team that didn't even exist yet. He knew it was going to be good.
"She will be," Max replied all too quickly, smiling. "I mean, I told her I wasn't trying out - y'know, as a joke - and she tried to murder me with her fork. So, I mean, I'd say she'll be pretty happy." Happy. "And I don't think you need to hope. You're big, bad Treyen! You're very talented. You'll make it. I'm... sure Ellie will love the opportunity for us to beat you guys this time." Though Ellie was loving, Max knew how much Quidditch meant to her. She couldn't be thrilled that her boyfriend's team beat them twice last term. Revenge was coming.

Home indeed, Treyen. Home indeed.
Hufflepuffs don't mention their secret weapon so easily, do they?
Either way, he nodded once more at Max, wondering once again about those points lost by a Gryffindor. Josh was no longer around. And Walnut didn't lose points, did he? Like, Headmaster Tate wouldn't make Kurumi lose points on behalf of Walnut, right?
That's when he noticed the change in Max's expression, and tone. A completely normal reaction when one spoke about their Quidditch Captain, no? After all, Treyen knew Keefer was going to do a fantastic job. He was doing so already. Everyone was, except him. He'd already apologized at the start-of-term feast.
This time, he laughed. Yeah, that pretty much sounded like something Ellie would do...if she was close to the boy. By now, Treyen was eyeing him curiously, as if he was trying to remember if Max had been the boy sitting next to her at the feast...but nothing came to mind. "Yeah, she really loves Quidditch, doesn't she?" he had yet to be at ease with that fact, he could still pretend he was. And...what Max said next surprised him even more. Blink. "Er, thanks."Blush. His sister was the very talented one when it came to Quidditch...and many other things. Never mind what OWLs said.
However, she did have to take her Apparition exam twice.
Chuckle. Right, Ellie would love to beat them. Most specifically, beat him. "We'll see about that."

Max shifted his weight from one foot to the other and folded his arms subconsciously. "She sure does. I always feel bad, though - she puts all the pressure on herself and takes any failure really hard. I mean, it's not always her fault if we lose, you know?" He sighed. "I wish she'd give herself some more credit sometimes. She's a great Seeker, captain, player - everything." He was smiling.
We'll see about that. "We certainly will. Who knows? You guys could get lucky again." He forced a smile, but he was only half-joking - he still believed Ravenclaw only lost when others got lucky, not because Ellie wasn't good enough. Ellie was good enough. He knew it. Ellie was going to be able to play for any professional Quidditch team she wanted!
Now, Max caught sight of the hourglasses. Hah, Gryffindors. "Kids these days," he shook his head mockingly, glad that it wasn't Ravenclaw that had just stumbled into the negatives. In front of Treyen, that would've been embarrassing.

So, now, Treyen turned to face Max. His expression hadn't changed one bit, and it was quite possible that his suspicions were correct. "You're close to her, aren't you?" There was no way that he spoke of her that way solely on the fact that she was his houses' Captain, right? He wouldn't go talking that way about Keefer. Not to someone who wasn't in the same house. "I understand. I feel the same way." And he had mentioned that she was an amazing Captain, didn't he? Because her team had been the most incredible one at the Pitch, and that also spoke of her skills as a Captain.
The fact that she hadn't caught the snitch was an inconvenient outcome.
Ha. Lucky? Of course. Hufflepuffs had luck on their side, most of the time, their house colors even shared one of the Felix Felicis one. "Right. Luck." It was all about luck, plus hard work and team effort. Qualities Hufflepuffs exhibit. Most of the time.
Kids these days. ACTUALLY, in the past, they'd been worse. "That's really nothing. Only five points." He commented, not bothering himself with giving a look to the hourglass this time.

If he could have done it, Max would've taken a step back in alarm at Treyen's question. Instead, his eyes glanced over the Head Boy's features, trying to figure out if he was being threatened in any way. Fortunately, he deduced that it was an innocent, respectable question and responded, "Well, uh... yeah." It felt like a stupid question to him. He shrugged. "I mean, she's my best friend. And I'd like to think I'm hers, too." Even though Ellie hadn't talked to Treyen about him before. He looked to the ground for a moment before an expression of alarm crossed his face and he stammered, "Besides you, of course. I mean. She talks about you and the basis of a... relationship should always be friendship. So, I mean, obviously you're there." Well, it SHOULD have meant that they were there. Max had never been around Treyen and Ellie long enough to see how they interacted with each other. He didn't really want to know. The idea made his stomach churn.
Max nodded in agreement at Treyen's comment on the house points. "Yeah, honestly, it's always funny to see which house will be furthest in the negatives at the beginning of the term. This year, it seems no one got the memo... or the professors are more lenient? Or maybe all the rule-breakers left - y'know, got scared now that you're Head Boy. You chased them off, didn't you?"

This was new.
Meeting someone that was close to her, that is. Usually, they were both acquainted with whoever managed to be around them. How come he's never heard of Max before, eh? That was...something he was going to ask her. AND BEST FRIEND? Seriously? Like him and Arya? Now he was rather curious as to why Max wasn't mentioned. Treyen had even told Ellie about Aaron before...and he doesn't even attend Hogwarts.
This was new. But certainly fun. He'd met one of Ellie's best friends...and he'd only know the boy existed thanks to Quidditch. Not cool, Eliana Stone.
"I...didn't know." OBVIOUSLY, LOCKHART. He shouldn't have said that, he'd probably hurt the boy's feelings, right? Nah, he was best friends with Ellie, it didn't matter if she spoke to others about him. "Yet I'm entirely glad to find out about you. It's certainly nice to meet you, Max." The smile on his face was a real one.
Mmmhmm. Yes. He agreed on the relationship-friendship bit. Granted, he'd been friends with Ellie before he even realized he liked her. And it was her friendship what he was most afraid of losing. So, he nodded, but didn't comment. It's probably important to say that the part 'she talks about you' made him blush a lot more than before.
Too late about the house points. "I don't think so." He chased no one off. Not even Tye. And he'd wanted to. "Looks like Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff are coming down as well."

He didn't know.
As if Max didn't already kind of get that hint, Treyen made it certain. "It's... nice to meet you, too." He was slightly bitter about the whole thing. At least now Treyen probably understood why Max had been so casual at the beginning? Or had TRIED to be casual, at least? He suddenly remembered their last Quidditch match last term - did Treyen think Max had just been some nice 'guy' on the Quidditch team who volunteered to help Ellie? He almost sighed again, but did his best to return a smile.
Max turned to look back at the hourglasses. Huh. He was right. Well, at least they were in it together. "It's like they knew we were here talking about it and blew it just for us." He didn't care that they lost those five points, really - he cared that SLYTHERIN of all houses was still hanging on. "Ah, well. Still better than negative fifty points." As soon as the words crossed his lips, he looked around for something wood to knock on, but then realized he was being silly. Ravenclaw would be fine.

But there was still something Treyen was missing. Perhaps it was just his idea. Either way, one nod was given to Max in the most obvious agreement. His former blushing was almost unnoticeable by now.
His eyes fell to the floor for a second, but that's when he noticed the book Max was holding. Treyen liked books. A lot. Instead of commenting on it, he commented on what the boy next to him had said. "Almost seems that way." The way he smiled suggested he was immensely happy about some private joke about points and whatnot, but the thing is...he started to think about what he said at the beginning, the whole 'school hasn't started yet' thing. "That only means that classes started." And they were all in negatives. Nice, Hogwartians.
"Have you begun your studies as well?" he said, gesturing towards the book.

"Yeah," Max agreed, nodding. "Probably all the first years running in late to class or something. At least it's even." He gave a small shrug and follow Treyen's line of sight down to his copy of The Noble Sport of Warlocks. Upon his question, Max smiled. "Nah, I've just been reading up on some Quidditch history. Trying to get my head in the game for tryouts while I still can. I figure once I have my first classes, I won't have much time for fun reading, you know? Well - of course you know. You're probably in the same boat, having your NEWTs this year, and you already had to go through OWLs. You ready? Nervous? Pumped?"
Max had no idea how well Treyen had done on his OWLs, so he wasn't entirely sure how huge his courseload was - but as Head Boy? Max could only imagine that he was the best of the best and had a rough term ahead of him.

Heh. True. At least it was even. He nodded again. There was a lot of nodding between them, wasn't it? It was...slightly strange, honestly.
And...his smile was slowly widening. Finally, a Ravenclaw that liked books. And had an amazing sense of how difficult it was to read for fun when school assignments started. So, yeah, Treyen understood. Not that they were sharing the same boat, though, that part he understood but disagreed with. Max will probably understand when he reaches his 7th year.
"I understand. Yet I always keep some of my fun reading by the bedside table to read a couple chapters before going to sleep." Every day. Though, his fun reading might not be considered fun for LOTS of people since it was mostly English literature and one of those detective novels he'd picked up since childhood but it was fun for him.
Treyen was going to be completely honest again. Much less wiser, though. He even chuckled, lightheartedly, "I'm not close to being ready, entirely nervous now that you brought it up...and...yeah, come to think of it, a bit excited about this year." Regardless of his NEWTs results, he still had his spot in WADA waiting for him. That was a very exciting thought.
"How about you?" Ready? Nervous? Pumped? The Ravenclaw was probably ready, not nervous and completely pumped.
One of the good things about having an office on the fifth floor, was that he would be able to stay in shape running up and down the stairs every day. With his hands in his pockets, Oliver stepped into the entrance hall and stopped.
Did he want to go and get something to eat in the great hall? Or maybe head outside first and take a look around and maybe torment one or even both of his friends?

Decisions. He wasn't good with them.
Althea Schirmer was not looking where she was going. She was not clumsy either, it was just that she was used to people getting the hell out of her way, so when she literally collided with a back that was too broad to belong to a student, she overbalanced and fell flat on her backside.
Dazed she just sat there for a moment.

Oliver actually stumbled a little. The collision wasn't hard. He just wasn't expecting it. He supposed that's what you get for just stopping in the middle of the room.
He turned around to tell off the student who couldn't be bothered to look where they were going and got the shock of his life when he saw Althea Schirmer on the floor. And immediately he had a cocky retort on the tip of his tongue but he quickly swallowed it. This was Althea Schirmer!
"Thea! Are you okay?" He dangled his hand in front of her for assistance. You know, if she should want it.

Her nostrils flared a bit and from her position on the floor Althea huffed a little bit, but she didn't snap, instead she regarded Olly and then took his hand to help herself up, the pencil skirt she was wearing made it difficult, but she managed by hauling on him.
"I'm fine." She assured him and then cringed slightly. Not that she was going to rub at her backside in public but it felt a little bruised. She let go of Oliver and dusted herself off a bit.
And then she actually said something SHOCKING.
"Sorry."

Oh.
OH!
This was teenage Oliver Jenkins dream come true, standing so close to Althea and holding her hand. Actually current day Oliver was liking it just as much. He watched as she dusted herself off and he couldn't help notice the look on her face. "Are you sure you're not hurt?"
Woah!
What!
Oliver couldn't help the small grin that played on his lips. "You didn't hit your head, did you?" Since when did Thea apologise?

Thea looked left and then right and then leaned forward to whisper. "Actually... I think there might be bruising. On my err... derrière." Because that was the least awkward way to refer to certain parts of one's anatomy.
Had she hit her head?
"No..." Why? Was there a lump or something? Was her hair out of place? She patted at her head. No. She was fine.
Or that end of her was.
"What were you doing, standing there, anyway?"

Oh Merlin!
Oliver rubbed the back of his neck and he too looked around to see if there were any eavesdroppers. "Did you need help with that." he whispered back to her before letting out a small chuckle. "I'm just kidding Thea." Because that's what he did. She remembered that about him, right?
"Perhaps the Healer has got some cream...or something." He just hoped that she didn't want him to go with her. Olly wasn't ready to face Cece, just yet.
He blinked at her for a moment. What kind of question was that? "I was trying to decide on whether I wanted to go into the great hall or outside. I was just thinking about flipping a coin."
