"Thank you." Althea answered graciously to the library thing. She loved books herself so she appreciated the same attitude in others. "You're more than welcome to take a look and borrow anything you like, Miss Carter."

But you know, murder would happen if said books weren't cared for.

"Oh?" Instantly the pleasant smile changed to a suspicious look. She took the parchment and tried to weigh up whether or not she should read it...

The professor unfolded it carefully.

What the HELL was that supposed to mean? Never mind that it happened to be a sentiment she personally disagreed with. Never mind that once again, a student was delivering inappropriate messages to her. Her nostrils flared a little as she read the note over again, and she let out a little huffy noise and then eyed the Ravenclaw. Had SHE read this? It wasn't sealed like the last one.

Yes, we're LOOKING at you, Louisa Carter.

She took a step backward, her hand reaching for the door's knob from behind. "I-i-is there something wrong...ma'am?" It wasn't a death threat, was it? Nope. Louisa miiiight've taken a peek inside. Just to make sure it wasn't a prank.

Professors made it clear that they were into pranks early this term so...

She was standing there fuming but it wasn't really at the Ravenclaw. This whole thing was beginning to be bothersome. She made a mental note that if another of these... missives came, she'd not open it until she was alone. And then she could throw things. Perhaps conjure some smashable objects and toss them forcefully at the wall. That would be satisfying. Or she could go find the History of Magic Professor, wait for him to say something irritating -which would take all of sixty seconds- and then take it out on him. That could work too.

"Something wrong? No... ye... did you read this, Miss Carter?" Be honest now.

"Don't take a tone with me, Mr Bellaire, and sit back down. I will take points if you don't change your attitude immediately." She would. It was what she did, and Althea Schirmer did not accept rudeness and demands from stroppy first years.

"It isn't about what you'd rather do, its about what you need to do in order to learn and succeed." She eyed the boy closely. "I'm going to assign you some work, and you're going to do it, and then perhaps we'll talk more about extra help, but you need to prove you're doing the bare minimum first, something you don't sound at all willing to do, Mr Bellaire." She eyed the boy.

"You're going to write me six inches of parchment about the differences between Charms and Transfiguration spells, with examples, and you're going to practice the wand movements given on page 47 of Quintessence: a Quest. When you come back here in a week, you'll show me all ten of them, and then we shall talk more. And Mr. Bellaire? If you don't, I shall take points from you for wasting my time and your own. Are we clear?"

"Of course there are. You should ask," The gorgeous, "Professor Vindictus. I hear he sometimes does lessons on flying carpets." Aladdin? Oh, Arabian Nights? She smiled at the girl.

"Is there something else before I head off my way?" The Ravenclaw offered with an uncertain smile. Pity she was leaving the heaven up in the higher level untouched. She didn't want to hang around here longer, though. Not until her nerves were chilling.

Yeah. She was doing the right thing. No matter how beautiful the books looked like, or how much her eyes tried to take another glance at the shelves.

SIGH.

The professor just regarded the girl through narrowed eyes for a long moment, clearly on edge, but she let it go. It wasn't the Ravenclaw's fault... and it didn't sound as if she meant any harm.

"No, nothing." Sigh. She had noticed the girl's glances up to the books. "Do feel free to come back any time you like if you wish to browse the books I have available." Really, she didn't mind.

And yes. Dismissed.

"The bare minimum is engaging in your lessons and working through the assigned textbooks as well as practising as directed." Which he clearly was not doing or he wouldn't be having any trouble.

"This is NOT a negotiation, Mr Bellaire. 5 points from you for continuing to be rude. You'll do what you are told and perhaps you will earn those points back. You're dismissed, I'll see you in a week."

"Thank you for being patient. 5 points to Slytherin for your patience and good manners."

She turned slightly and eyed the Hufflepuff boy pointedly. Respect went a long way with her.

Althea settled comfortable against the cushions and fixed her attention on the young Slytherin as she began to talk. Or babble. Or whatever she was doing. The charms professor waited it out, patiently and then blinked precisely once at the question.

"I like to think I do." She answered with a touch of caution. Had she ever seen Miss Greingoth with that almost earnest and vulnerable look? Had anyone? Althea tried to make it easier by not acknowledging that and simply asked a question in a matter of fact tone.

"Which are you more curious about, magical application or by hand?"

The professor's words distracted Sierra long enough for the Slytherin girl to get uncomfortable again, and she ended up fidgeting in her seat rather than immediately answering the question. Great. Someone else was coming in. Now she had to either hurry or speak so softly she wasn't even sure she would hear what she was saying.

She liked to think she did? That didn't sound very certain. She either did or she didn't, but at least she seemed better off than Sierra at the moment. She shrugged. "Either one," she answered. "Don't be ridiculous, Miss Greingoth. Sit." Althea gave her a look.

Sierra didn't like that, of course, but she was really in no position to argue. Besides, she didn't really feel like losing the five points she'd just gained. Well, that and the fact that the professor had been rather polite to Sierra. It may have just been something in her job description, but either way, Sierra's body met the seat of the chair once again.

She cleared her throat and restated what she'd said before, this time with a bit less hesitation. "Either one, but of there's a magical way of doing it, I'd rather that one." She sighed, feeling as if she was opening herself to a vulnerability she wasn't completely comfortable with. "Professor Schirmer, I feel sort of...behind the other girls in my year. I feel like I should be wearing make-up by now, and at least styling my hair a little differently." There was a few seconds more of fidgeting before she added, "I just...don't...know...how."

"There are a lot of fun charms actually, but I think its equally important to know the basics of it by hand too." She preferred the charms herself.

Althea relaxed back against the comfy cushions and nodded once. "I felt the same once." She hadn't done the make up thing until her seventh year. Well... she'd tried once in fifth year and had a horrid, horrid experience that did much to shape her current opinions of men and of people in general, but really, she hadn't started to attend to her appearance until her final year at Hogwarts. Late bloomer and all.

"How do you feel about an extra credit assignment, Miss Greingoth?"

I can teach you a few cosmetics charms, and you can aim to demonstrate proficiency and perhaps do a little bit of research on your own into further useful cosmetic spells." Althea was all for learning experiences, and after all, charmswork was charmswork.

"When would you like to begin? I suggest perhaps the bathroom on the second floor would be a good place." Mirrors and such.
