Talking to the Portraits The first floor is full of portraits who would gladly lend an ear if you wish to tell of your woe. Most would be even more glad to talk your ear off about themselves... ooc: We do not have anyone to RP the portraits at this time so, feel free to make some up. |
Sammy stood in the corridor looking up at all of the portraits. He heard that they moved and talked and such...but for some reason these ones were being mean and just sitting there. So, Sammy just stood there staring at them. Maybe if he stared long enough...one of them would talk to him. |

Yes, Darwin was enjoying roaming the Castle, even if he had got lost Turning a corner, he entered a corridor full of old portraits and a boy. A boy who looked about his age. "Why are you staring at the wall?" Darwin couldn't help but ask it, as he didn't seem to be doing anything other. Hogwarts had given him a new found confidence around people, it seemed. Maybe it was because he could afford to be himself. |
Elektra always loved passing by the portraits. Just the fact they moved and talked just still astonished her even being in the school for four years. As she passed by some of them she looked at one that stuck out. It was one that she was a big fan of. She stopped in her tracks and she looked at the beautiful, almost gothic-looking prtrait of a young girl sitting on a swing holding an old teddy bear doll by it's arm. There was something about the theme of this portrait that she just loved so much and she stood by it and smiled. As Elektra was looking at the portrait she noticed a young fellow, definately a first year, just sitting there staring at the pictures. She kind of chuckled softly to herself and she looked back at her portrait, but talked strait to the young first year. "They'll talk if you talk to them." |
SPOILER!!: you two =P Sammy looked over at the boy. "They're supposed to talk to you." With that, he turned back to staring at the wall. He was going to get one of them talking to him. He stared at one of an older man seated in a chair. The man seemed to be just staring back. Sammy saw him blink and wondered if he was going to talk...then he heard someone talking to him from down the hall. He turned to face the girl. "Oh. Okay. Thanks." Sam turned back to the portrait. Well...here went nothing. "Erm...hello." "It's about time! I thought you were incapable of speaking young man!" The old man just scoffed at the young boy. "And weren't you ever taught it's rude to stare!?" Sammy was taken a back by the sudden outburst. How did her respond to that... |
SPOILER!!: Sam Elektra looked back at her portrait about to say something when she heard the old man blurt out at the first year. Merlin, he was cranky today. She looked at the portrait as the girl looked at Elektra. "Be right back darling." She walked towards the first year and stood next to him looking at the old man in the portrait. "Having a rough day today?" She said to the portrait and looked at the young boy then back at the portrait. "Go easy on him. He's a first year alright? Let's not be rude to our new family members to Hogwarts." |
SPOILER!!: Quoties. ^__^ "Wait... they can talk?!" Darwin exclaimed as the boy answered him, turning to face the portrait that he was staring so intently at. "I mean, I knew they could move and stuff... but..." Magic was awesome, fact. He was gonna get someone to paint a portrait of him just so that when he died - which was obviously going to be a LONG time away from now - he could like, stay on, without being a creepy ghost. Hehh. He turned again as an older girl joined them, this time nodding, but still too nervous to speak to the pictures. What if it just didn't work and he looked stupid and the pictures told the other pictures and :whaa:. Darwin convinced himself to calm as the other boy began to speak, this time at the old man, and jumped about three feet "I...I...I...I." His mouth was hanging open, completely unaware that he looked like a goldfish as he tried to close it. |
rearranging a bit SPOILER!!: quotes Sammy shrugged his shoulders. "Thats what I heard. Someone in my common room was talking about the conversation they hd with one the other day." He thought about how weird that sounded. Most people would think they were insane if they said they talked to portraits. He noticed the boy jump as the portrait spoke. It was pretty shocking. Sammy still didn't know how to answer him. He watched the older girl talk to the old man. He smiled at her when she told the portrait to be nice. The old man looked at the girl. "You would have a rough day too if someone decided to just sit and STARE at you!" He eyed the younger students. He grumbled in response to the last comment the girl made. He then looked at all of the students. "Well...do you have names or am I just supposed to call you 'Hey you'?" If he was going to talk to them, he needed names. Sammy gulped and looked at the other boy. "I'm Samuel...I mean Sam. I'm Sam." No way this thing was calling him Samuel. No way. |
Elektra raised her eyebrow to the portrait. She knew exactly how the boys were feeling. She was exactly like how they were when she first encountered the portraits. Now in her fourth year she had a bit more knowledge on the portraits and how to treat them and when she heard one of the boy's name she looked down at him and then looked at the other boy who she saw nearly jump to Elektra's 5'5" height. She looked at the old man and she decided she might as well say her name as well. "Elektra. Elektra Draven sir." She said sternly back at the old man. |
SPOILER!!: Sam&Elektra Well you certainly did learn something knew everyday, Darwin thought, bouncing on his heels in his usual hyper way. It was a phrase he hated hearing his Mum say, for nothing would have convinced him that he was learning stuff at Muggley school. He nodded at the boy, hoping that they too would have a conversation with one of the portraits. It sounded, to Darwin, quite the adventure - after all, it wasn't everyday a hanging spoke to you. At least it wasn't everyday in Darwins life. It was probably everyday in a lot of other peoples, though, especially if they were magical. And maybe it'd be come an everyday occurrence for him while he was here. Hm. Biting his lip a bit as the portrait continued to speak, he mentally shook off the shock from before. "I think people staring at you is probably better than them just walking past ignoring you," Darwin spoke up, glancing at the girl who the man had spoken to. "I mean, it's what you're there for, isn't it? You were painted so people would look at you. Weren't you?" That was what most paintings were for, he thought, otherwise people wouldn't go to museums and art galleries and stuff, would they? He shuffled his feet a little as the other two students spoke, his bouncing continuing. "And I'm Dar- er, Damon." He need to make that a habit, now his family weren't around. |
SPOILER!!: Elektra&Darwin Sammy looked at the portrait and waited for the others to say their names. The first year didn't want to anger him anymore than he already was. That just wouldn't be enjoyable. The older girl said her name was Elektra. Sammy made a mental note of that. He raised an eyebrow as he noticed the boy stutter of his name. Had did you get Damon from Dar? The old man scoffed at the young Ravenclaw. "It is just as rude to stare at someone than it is to ignore them, boy." Didn't anyone teach these kids manners anymore?! He listened as each of them spoke their names. "Well, Samuel, Elektra, and Damon...what do you want?" He had already lost what little patience he had with the students. Great. It called him Samuel. "I-uh-was just wondering if you could actually talk." This guy sure was grumpy. |
SPOILER!!: Darwin and Sammy Elektra raised her eyebrow at the stuttering boy saying his name. Was kind of odd that her got Damon from "Dar." As the impatient man's temper seemed like it wasn't going away she raised her eyebrow. "Well boys I think we can clearly say that this ild chap hasn't had a decent night's rest so why don't we let him sleep and talk to other portraits that are in a better mood. What do you say?" She said looking down at the first year boys. It wasn't like Elektra to be helping out first years, but for some reason she had changed after she had left Hogwarts for a while and came back. "I know that are plenty of portraits around here that would just love to see new faces rather than my old one." she said with a chuckle. |
Nate walks over to one of the portraits on the wall "Excuse me portrait." "Yes what is it that I can help you with." "Where can I find the Library?" "The library is on the fourth floor. Now carry on." The portrait said as it glanced at him with an evil eye. |
SPOILER!!: Sammy and Elektra. And now they were giving him funny looks. Well, he had stuttered his name, and maybe it was odd for people to do that, but had Darwin ever said he was normal? And Damon WAS his name just... his middle name, and he had to learn to remember that there was no one to correct him 'round here, now. So he would ignore the looks. Except for the tiny hint of a blush that was creeping up his cheeks. "Well, what would you, uh, rather?" he managed, a little more bluntly than he'd intended - of course, he didn't WANT to be rude, but this man was surely being so, and so he couldn't help it. "I mean, would you rather people walked past, or stared? You're a, uh, painting, aren't you s'pose to be stared at?" Wasn't that what pictures were for? Eh, the magic world was getting stranger by the minute. And now he wanted to know what they wanted, oh. Darwin nodded in agreement with the other first year. "Yeah, uh, that," he said as he moved his head. "Because I've never spoken to a portrait before, y'see." And he wasn't sure he ever wanted to talk to one again. They were WEIRD, and mean. Unless Elektra was serious, and she knew of portraits that wouldn't MIND being spoken to. He nodded, slowly in reply to her. |
sorry for the fail post >__< SPOILER!!: Elektra & Darwin The old man scoffed at the girl. The two boys deserved it for just staring. Staring was rude and he wanted to make sure they knew that. He looked at Damon. "I would PREFER if you would just say something. And walking by is preferable to having someone stare at you." The man was just going to ignore the last part of that boys statement. He scoffed at the younger two. "Well, WE can talk...all you had to do was ask." Sammy gulped. This guy was mean. Very mean. He nodded to Elektra. "That sounds good." He was tired of being yelled at. He turned to the old man and went to wave goodbye, but there was no one in the frame. "Okay...didn't know they could do that either." These magic pictures are just weird. He looked at Damon and Elektra. "Still wanna find portraits to talk to? Nice ones anyways." |
Cardigan stood in front of the first portrait. It was of a lady in Victorian times....how lovely. She said to the portrait,"`ello!" The lady glared at the girl. This was no proper way to talk to a lady!"Mind your manners girl!"The lady said snappishly to the foolish little girl.Proper introductions! "Jeez lady.Youdon`t have to be that pushy about it!"Cardigan said as she returned the glare and gave the portrait the cold shoulder.Fat chance the lady could get her out of it. |
Lilly went up to where loads of portraits were. Last year, she'd been comforted by a portrait of an old witch, who'd been very kind to her. Unfortunetely, the young Lioness couldn't spot her this year. She stared, instead, at an old wizard who was asleep. Sir Cornelius Bridgeton woke up with a start. "What?" he grunted at the disrespectful student. "Don't you know it's rude to stare, child?" Corny glared at her, but seeing the unhappy look on her face, decided to be a bit kinder. "What is your name?" Lilly frowned. She hadn't meant to stare. "I-I'm very sorry," she said to the old man. At his sudden kindness, Lilly couldn't help but let the tears flow from her blue eyes. "I-I'm sorry. It's just, I'm really missing my mum," she attempted to smile, and failed. "Go, dear," Bridgeton said to her. "And cry. It'll make you feel better. I promise," he nodded. "You would, of course, miss any family member if they died. I know how you feel," Corny smiled as she ran away. "Well done," he called. |
Glenn was just wandering the corridors when she came across a portrait, the lady in the portrait was so incredibly beautiful that Glenn stopped and stared at her. She was just marvelling in her perfect skin, blood red lips and perfectly straight black hair that fell half over the lady's face when the lady suddenly turned in her frame and store straight at Glenn. "Well, what do you want dear?" The lady said, frowning slightly at the girl's shocked expression, "I am Ellie, the advice giver of the young ones around here. I dear say you want some advice young lady?" Glenn's jaw a dropped when the lady spoke to her, she quickly shut it and stuttered, "I- I was just-" "Yes?" Ellie said, raising one perfect eyebrow at the girl. "Uh- I," She swallowed, "It's stupid you see I- I don't feel very well- popular." Glenn raised her head to look up at the lady again, twiddling her fingers. "Oh dear," Ellie said, raising a hand in the picture as though to caress Glenn's face before letting it drop to her side again, "I once had a problem like that. The solution is never very simple but a pretty girl like you should be fine. My, if I had beautiful curly blonde hair like you when I was younger. Anyway, I am getting off track, the solution is... talk. Talk to new people, talk to your friends. When I was a young girl they considered lady's objects and that we should not talk, look where that got us, aye? Just talk." Ellie smiled a perfect white-toothed smile as the girl ran off again. Ellie the advice giver. Yes. |
Travis sat on the window sill across from a large portrait of a rather rotund old wizard, and his domesticated troll. It was an odd pair, one could barely tell the troll from the warlock. "--honestly, the someone should tell a teacher about the statue. He keeps tripping people, it's not nice." Travis rambled to the troll She had been a kind SNORE! When Travis looked up from his dangling feet at the Troll and Old Wizard, he founded both fast asleep on their frame. Trav cocked his head to the side and pursed his lips. How long had they actually been asleep? How many people had passed, only to see Travis talking to himself? Was there going to be some kind of school rumor that Trav was crazy? He hoped not. Travis' Cheeks puffed out in contemplation. Should he call it a day, and start on his homework in the dorms, or should he find another willing portrait to vent his overactive brain to? |
Vlimia had heard that the portraits were located here. Her family had portraits in their home, but they were all encouraging Vlimia to stand up straighter and tuck her shirt in and pointless tips like that. So she had decided to come and talk to a few of the portraits here. There was one of a lady in a victorian-looking dress, with a petticoat and ruffles and everything. The golden nameplate under the painting stated that her name was Almyra Charity Zebulon."Err... hello Madam Zebulon." She said. Almyra sniffed pitifully. "Oh, hello. I suppose you have come to hear my tale of woe." She moaned. "Well, not exactly, I just wanted -" "I may be able to tell you, though the drama is sometimes too much to bear." Almyra moaned again, for effect. "It was the night before my wedding. I was in my best pink ruffled dress, you know, for the rehearsal dinner. Then I found that the man I was marrying was one that I had only met twice - Papa told me it was the nice man who courted me last quarter. In a panic, I left the rehearsal dinner. I tore into the woods and found a big log cabin. It was of a painter, and he wished to paint my portrait. And... here we are today." Madam Zebulon sighed dramatically. "That is a very sad story. Um, I'm sorry, I have to get to my next class." She said, hurrying off. |
VVVVVVVVV SWHUUUMMMM. VVVVVV SHUMMMM SHUMMMM. Zayden was stealthily making his way down the corridor, with his black cape beating against the little bit of wind that was being made as he advanced, and he swinging his red light saber back and forth. Before anyone questioned him, yes, he did know he was eighteen years old. Yes, he did know he was about to graduate. Yes, he did know he needed to grow up. A big capital N O, he didn't care. "I am Darth Zayder!" VVVVV SWHUUUUM. |
Quote:
Now, everyone knew that Zayden was a bit different and childish still, but the cape, the lightsaber. Lightsaber. "I know its non-harmful, but I'm gonna have to politely ask you to put that away. I don't want you to get in trouble." If it weren't for the rules Adam would have so grabbed the lightsaber and started to duel with Zayden. "So, is this cape custom made or halloween store bought?" Adam asked checking out the material, smirking as he examined it more closely. |
Quote:
"You're asking me to put away my light saber?" He just frowned now. For the love of cupcakes, he thought Adam would have joined in on the fun. "Why would I get into trouble? It's plastic!" Just to show him, he teasingly poked the Prefect in the stomach with the light saber and made the sound effect, "KKKSHHHHHHSHHHH!" "My mummy made it for me," he replied in a very snobbish kind of way but then he changed his voice into a more polite one and added, "I'm just kidding. I bought it at a store in downtown Scotland." He nodded. "I also have a Vader mask, but I didn't want to scare the little Firsties by wearing it around." |
Quote:
Oh no. He didn't want Zayden to feel bad about the request. Now Adam felt bad on the inside for asking that simple favor of his friend. To prove his point Zayden poked him with the plastic device of the future. "It may be the cool lightsaber to us, but the Professors might think its a weapon. I don't want you to be in trouble. You can use it in the dormitory, you know." That was an option. Adam nodded when Zayden said he had bought it. "Would've been cool if you made it, only shows how much dedicated you are for the series." He nodded. "The mask would've been cool." Then Adam outstretched his hands in a saving manner and said in a desperate, cracking voice, "Zayden... I am your father." Yeah, he just went there. |
Quote:
He still needed to find someone to play that with him because he wanted to win new cards. He chuckled. "It would have been, but I hardly have the skills to make stuff like that." OHHH! Maybe Amelia would knit him a cape! That would be SO AWESOME. "Maybe I can wear it next time I see you." He grinned at his friend. Wait. Why was Adam putting his hand on his shoulder? o_O It only occurred to him what he was doing when he spoke in a voice that reminded him of Darth Vader, and then he made the final conclusion that Adam was the coolest of the cool. NOBODY he knew would have done that! "Nooo! Noooo! That's not true! That's IMPOSSIBLE!" He dropped to his knees. |
