The library is a perfect place to study, so long as you don't disturb any of your peers in the process. Pull up a chair by yourself or with a few classmates in order to catch up on your homework.
Autumn had grabbed histoy of hogwarts book and sat at the table ocassionally she took notes on key facts she should remember, she's already read half the book list for this year. Unless she finds some more intresting stuff this will be a boring first year.
Wist noticed another girl while she was reading her book. Oh. It was the ravenclaw girl from the start of term feast. "Hello." Wist said this coldly.
Since Dallin didn't correct him, then he'd guessed right. Two years. Which proved his point, thankfully.
Two years was a long time for a rebound. Dallin should consider himself lucky, seriously, since those didn't last long...that's what he'd heard anyway, he really had no idea.
And now that the Ravenclaw boy was looking up...Treyen began listening to what HE had to say, quite literally too, since he was speaking as well. But the part that interested him was...what had Dallin said. And...the Head Boy looked down as well. So, he couldn't remember? Well, that helped a lot. Oh. Stupid. "Yeah, we're all stupid when we argue," it was, like, a requirement, to say and do stupid things when a discussion was happening. Normal stuff.
Okay. It meant something to him. Yes, Dallin, Treyen could easily understand that bit. And then...then his eyes were on the boy in front of him. He didn't know whether to widen them or narrow them...so he just raised an eyebrow. AND...HE LEFT?! Wait, so, this happened a few minutes ago?! Yeah, his eyes widened in surprise.
For the record, out of the many times him and Eliana had had arguments, which were a lot by the way, only ONCE he left. That was, coincidentally, two terms ago, when he told her about the kiss, and...he sort of figured she had wanted him gone back then. The rest of the times...he'd never left her side.
So, Dallin..., "YOU IDIOT!" he exclaimed, leaning towards the Ravenclaw and smacking the Transfiguration book on his head, not too hard of course, "Why are you here?!" so, when Finlay had adviced Treyen to go to Eliana...he hadn't been this harsh...but..., "Go back to your girlfriend." ASAP! What the hell was Dallin doing in the library?! Had he seriously thought he could even focus in here? After what HE just DID? Yeah, he was blaming Dallin.
"Eh, sorry about the...head," he chuckled, "But you kind of deserve it. Since that's the stupidest thing you could've done." Honestly. All Dallin needed to do now was..., "I don't see you getting up...," Tsk! Tsk! Time is running out...unless he wanted to have a large book thrown to his head this time...and Treyen was a Keeper, he could throw stuff pretty hard too, "...go to her, Dallin. And apologize for being an idiot." Seriously.
The time between when Treyen yelled at Dallin about being an idiot and when he smacked him in the head with a book was very... short. All that Dallin could do was widen his eyes at the sudden shouting - in the library, too! - and then he was momentarily distracted by a sharp, quick, not-really-that-bad pain in his head. His jaw dropped open.
Treyen had hit him with a book!
Dallin just stared, rubbing his head lightly. Then, realizing his mouth was open, he closed it. He honestly didn't know what to say to Treyen. The Head Boy was giving great advice... Dallin knew he should go back to Ellie. But... there had to be an excuse not to go back to her, right? Dallin didn't particularly want to make the fight worse by going back to her while she was still angry.
...Well. Sorry about the head? Yeah, right. You didn't go smacking people with a book unless you had a good reason. Dallin frowned at Treyen's accusing words... but they were true. He had to admit that. He deserved the book to the head, and he had just made the stupidest move of his life back at the lake.
He still didn't say anything though.
Until Treyen pointedly told him to leave. Dallin's eyes widened again. "I don't even know where she is!" He ducked his head suddenly, looking down, expecting another blow from the Transfiguration book.
His voice came out muffled and quiet. "...I suppose I can look in the Common Room."

Treyen didn't...hit Dallin that hard, did he? Because he wasn't saying anything! At all! He just...sat there, rubbing his head.
The Head Boy was going to give him the benefit of the doubt and think that perhaps Dallin was thinking of where to start looking for Ellie, yes? Until he said he didn't know where she was!
Excuse me, Dallin?
Did he not understand what Treyen was talking about when he said that he wasn't seeing him getting up? Or moving at all? Immediately, an eyebrow was raised, and yes, he took the book in his hands but he wasn't going to hit him again. Not now anyway.
Oh, the Common Room. Sure, that was a good place to start..., "And...you're waiting for what? Another one of my books?" GO!
This is the moment where Dallin should pack his things and leave...off to search for his girlfriend, apologize, and hope that it all ends well, because it was going to end well...if Dallin apologized and stopped acting like a girl.

Treyen was picking up the book again. That was Dallin's cue to stand.
He quickly pushed his chair away from the table, stood up, and pushed his things off the table into his bag. He was definitely not waiting for another one of Treyen's books. With a sigh, Dallin pulled his bag onto his shoulder and looked at the Hufflepuff.
He didn't want to leave, find Ellie, and yell at her some more.
But his other option was to get hit with a book again, and that was the worst of the two options.
"Thanks," he said finally, stepping away from the table and pushing his chair back in. He opened his mouth to say something else, but then closed it... and turned away. To the Common Room, then.
It was funny how admiringly Gwen was talking about getting in detention. 'You make it sound better than winning the house cup.' Ari laughed, secretly agreeing with her Ravenclaw friend. 'I know, right? That was something pretty disturbing, I was surprised no one reacted to it. But it was fun, yes. Only I wouldn't let you drag me into anything like that anytime soon.' the girl chuckled, spoiling the serious effect her words were supposed to have.
Now Ariadne was really confused. Gwen kept fretting much more than usual and the Gryffindor couldn't pinpoint why for the life of her. 'Let's say see you in the library in fifteen minutes?' she suggested, more and more intrigued by the minute.
Ari shook her head. 'No, not alone! Even I know Quidditch is a team sport. Just not with me.' With someone who didn't detest brooms, preferably. 'Your dad is awesome, he's so funny and clueless.' the Gryffie added, once again wondering what her own dad was really like.
'Err...I don't really want to practice the Healing Charm on you. I am bound to make things worse, and I most certainly don't want to send you to the Hospital Wing!' She could never forgive herself for that.
'Well he's scared of mice in turn, so that would make them even.' Ari retorted, totally forgiving Gwen. She was her best friend after all.
Gwendolyn rushed along the corridor, holding her notebook tightly. When she got closer to the large library door, the third year stopped for a second and took a deep breath. Opening the door slowly, Gwen made it squeak. Great, nice going!, the girl ‘congratulated’ herself. From the moment she got in, she could already see Ari waiting at one of her study tables, so Gwendolyn headed over there.
‘Sorry it took me so long’, she began saying while placing her notebook on the table. ‘So… what I wanted to tell you is…err-‘, Gwen said, and searched for something in her notebook. Ah here they are!, the Ravenclaw told herself and pulled out o few pictures. ‘I found these at home. And some of them at my aunt’s house when I was on holiday’, she said and decided to start showing Ari the least interesting ones.
‘So this is my favorite one of my parents’, Gwen grinned and gestured at the picture. 'Aaand- here's another one. Taken at the same time'
Keep calm... Keep calm, Gwen told herself and swollowed heavily. 'Your mom', she smirked when comming across another picture.
Wist nodded. So now she was talking to her. "Glad to hear you know." Wist asked her in a slightly less cold voice "And you are?"
"autumn." This wist was being rather cold towards her. "Please eexcuse me... I got detention from care of magical creatures" Autumn rolled her eyes and packed a load of books, prachment and things to keep her ocupied. and walked out with a wave.

Why did Autumn act so surprised at her rudeness? Wist raised her eyebrows. "Yeah, I heard."

Now Dallin understood what he meant when he'd said 'Go', right? Good.
The Hufflepuff watched as he gathered his things, which weren't many to begin with so it didn't take long for Dallin to be ready to leave. Granted, he didn't seem so thrilled by the idea...yet he'd thanked Treyen for something...and he didn't know why. Was it for the book to head? Or the fact that he got to talk to someone else and it had helped somehow?
Whichever option that was, Treyen still nodded, "Anytime." Really.
And then he was gone. Which only meant...Treyen was back to his Transfiguration book. He still had an hour left of some library time.

Ari was fidgeting in her chair as Gwen entered, carrying a notebook. She had said before it wasn't homework related, so the Gryffindor was trying to look for other clues. Her puzzled expression remained when Gwendolyn handed her a few magical pictures. Maybe they were pictures of some awesome wizards duel or of Gwen playing Quidditch!
Alas, that was not the case. Ariadne smiled when she saw the pictures of Gwen's parents. 'These are so representative.' she smirked, watching them fondly. Her grin widened when her friend handed her a picture of her own mum in her youth. She had always been so pretty.
This was enjoyable, but the little nagging voice in Ari's head pointed out that a few pictures weren't as important as the Ravenclaw declared before, so there must be something more to it. 'A-anything else?' Ariadne asked Gwen, unsure.

Representative? I know!!!, Gwen wanted to reply, but couldn’t say anything. Instead she just nodded. ‘Well… there are a few more here…’, the third year said and flipped the pages of her notebook, pulling out a few more pictures, carefully hiding the most important one at the end of the stack. ‘This one’, she said and gestured towards the picture, which, after a few seconds changed a bit. It was one of Gwen’s favorite things about the Wizarding world. Moving pictures!
The Ravenclaw couldn’t help but laugh at her dad’s facial expression. Priceless.‘Oh… this one is—dad. Seventh year… Blah blah… mom… your mom and one of her friends… the picture of the three of them in flying class… ’ , she announced and quickly skipped over the next few, again of their parents. Getting close to the end!, she told herself and swallowed heavily.
‘And then- there’s this’, she said and, with shaking hands, reveled the last photo. ‘Considering the written thing on the back of it, I believe…’, Gwendolyn said and swallowed heavily and waited for Ari’s reaction.

Ella sat down with a gigantic stack of books. Yes, she was only a first year and she would be learning a lot as the year went on but she still felt so...so...out of the loop. She was determined to cram as much basic knowledge of the subjects she was taking into her head as she could and she had some serious reading to do. With a furrowed brow she placed the first book in front of her, one about defense against the dark arts, and began to read.
Butterfly sat down at an empty table, as she sat down she pulled her notes from her bag and began studying them because she didn't want to behind at all.

Ari's excitement grew by the minute as she was looking at the photos brought by her friend. She hadn't felt like this since she had discovered a trunk full of her Gran's stuff from her time at Hogwarts in the attic, which she had searched from top to bottom (and nicked some of the items without mentioning it to her grandmother. What? It was not like she was using them anymore.)
Moving on. 'Wow, these are really great pictures. Our parents look like they really knew how to have fun.' she smiled, realizing that she and Gwen were becoming very much like their mothers. Her good disposition remained until she noticed her bestie's trembling hands. 'Gwen? Are you all right?' the Gryffindor asked, worried. When her friend shoved the last picture into her hand Ariadne eyed it suspiciously. It was her mum. And a man. Not her uncle Tristan. Not anyone she knew. The realization started to sink in as Gwen mentioned something about the writing on the back.
Ari then turned the picture and the words confirmed her conclusion. 'Ava and Lloyd, summer 2061'. That was exactly two years before Ari had been born. Her mum and dad, when they were together and happy. So that was what her dad looked like! He was pretty handsome. But also the one who had left Ava and Ari without looking back. The girl was speechless. She didn't know what to say, she held her hand over her mouth trying not to gape in shock.
Still, a part of her brain that was still functioning reminded her that this was the first picture of her dad she had ever seen, and a clue to find him and contact him. It was the beginning she had always hoped for. She slowly got up, walked over to Gwen and gave her a big hug. 'Thank you.' the girl said simply, holding on to Gwen for dear life. 'I must not cry.'
Cornelius was studying at the study tables. Book open in front of him, quill and ink out, parchment right there. It made sense! It was a totally normal thing to do, studying in the library! He had homework, he had things to do, it made sense. And yet, he was unable to focus. At all. In all honesty, his mind was on other things today. Well, kind of on a person. Which was completely...inexplicable to him. He was never like this with girls. Ever. If he liked someone, he told her. They went on a date. If it was a successful, fun date, they were in a relationship. It wasn't a big deal. It was the opposite, it was a small deal. It was the most casual thing in the world.
But this girl? Different. Very different. Wait!...Not that he liked her! No... No way. Not...at all? Okay, maybe he did? He did. No, no...maybe? In all honesty, Cornelius had absolutely no idea how he felt. He'd met the girl once! He'd spent an afternoon with her, throwing snacks out windows and crawling under tables and charming suits of armor, and...holding her hand? Which she had let go of...abruptly... What did that mean?
And he hadn't seen her in...a week? And he hadn't tried to contact her or anything, necessarily, but she hadn't tried to send him any notes either! And if it was any other girl he had ever been in a like/not-like/possibly-like thing with, he probably wouldn't have cared. But for whatever reason, with Aspen? He cared. Kind of. Maybe? He didn't know. All he knew was that he was sitting at a study table alone, tapping his quill against his parchment and staring at his book without really reading it.

Aspen hadn't exactly avoided Cornelius, but she also hadn't had time to seek him out during the week either. The troubling part about that was that she HAD wanted to seek him out... often. If it wasn't for thinking about going to find him so much, she might have finished her school work easier and faster then had more time... Aspen Odessa hadn't ever, ever, EVER thought about someone outside of her family as much as she had Cornelius Rune.
What was that about? And it wasn't her usual worrying either. She was a WORRIER, and her father was forever telling her to have fun at school and not worry about him and her brother - but she spent most days worrying about them anyway. 'Cept not this past week. Aspen had somethingone else on her mind entirely.
So, it was to her great delight to find Cornelius in Aspen's other home: the Hogwarts Library. She had Egbert nestled into the inside pocket of her robe and a book about Runes in her arm. "...if I promise not to crawl under the table, would you mind if I sat here?" Aspen motioned towards the chair next to Cornelius.

Suddenly, through the mist of Cornelius's own confusing thoughts, the one voice that he had actually been thinking of, suddenly came into the picture. He whipped his head around to find Aspen Odessa herself standing next to his table, and he scrambled to sit up a bit straighter. And then, the oddest thing happened. When he saw her, he suddenly found that he wasn't quite so worried about if Aspen didn't contact him purposely or if she had meant to drop his hand or not a week ago... He found himself just looking at her. And smiling, of course.
"The seat is already yours," he answered, gently pulling out the chair a bit and setting down his quill as he watched her sit down at his side.
"Where have you been all week?" Cornelius couldn't help but ask, turning towards her and allowing his light brown eyes to scan over his expression. It was funny how things seemed to be such a blur, even from last week. That day had been so random and so sudden that it almost seemed like a dream; a theory which wasn't disproved by her missing presence ever since.
He was positive it wasn't a dream though, he could still practically feel her hand in his own. His brows furrowed at the thought, but he quickly returned to the present, waiting patiently for Aspen's response.

How did he DO that? The seat is already yours? he says - it was so simple, yet profound and meaningful and Aspen's tummy reacted in WEIRD fluttery ways. Just, really, how DID he do that? If his words started to be as confusing as his smile, Aspen was going to be in big trouble.
Nevertheless, she did sit, admittedly enjoying the gesture of him pulling her chair out. It was so grown up and mannerly. It wasn't exactly Aspen, but she enjoyed it. "Well... besides class, I was here some. My dorm. Egbert is mad at me, I think, though. I didn't have much time for Egbert's Cheese Versus Gravity this week." Aspen paused and sat up to see what book he was (not) reading. "I'm happy to report that I haven't been under anymore tables this week though." Teehee!
Aspen grinned and discretely reached into the folds of her robes, to the pocket where her fruit bat resided. "Didn't see you around much either. I was worried you might have gotten lost in the bowels of Hogwarts."

Cornelius was happy to find that his restless non-concentrating from just a minute before had calmed with Aspen's presence, already seeming to feel more like himself as he absentmindedly rested his arm on the back of her chair. He listened as she explained that she'd been in classes, and the library itself, her dorm, though her pet bat was upset because she didn't have any time to throw cheese snacks out the window. Cornelius tried to keep a straight face at this, but it was no use. In the next second, he had let out a smile at her words, and it only widened as she reported that she hadn't been under any tables this week.
"I'm glad to hear it," he nodded, listening as she mentioned that he hadn't been around much either and she was worried that he had gotten lost. "I only ran into a few walls without you," Cornelius replied jokingly with a shrug, flashing her yet another smile.
He felt like he should've voiced some kind of representation of how oddly anxious he had been to see her again, but he couldn't think of a way to explain it without it sounding stupid. And so he said nothing about how he'd half-hoped she would be in the Common Room every time he entered it, and decided not to even mention how he'd thought of her the few times he actually did get lost trying to find his way to a class. Because that would've been too...forward. What if she just looked at him? What if she walked away or crawled under a table? What if she did any of her Aspen-y things and made him feel this sudden, unexpected need to impress her?
But he had to say something! "I..." he started, his light brown eyes stuck on her expression, trying to find words that wouldn't make him sound like an idiot. "I thought you were avoiding me," he finally decided, letting out a weak chuckle.

He did NOT! But Aspen appreciated his joke anyway. "So you actually spent the week in the Hospital Wing, having your bumps tended by Healer Tillstorm?" Aspen joked right back. "I didn't think to look for you there. Next time though!" Teehee. She was his equal today with the smiling and ... perhaps even giggling a little?
Or she had been on the giddy side of life until he expressed his concern that she had been avoiding him. Ohhhh. Aspen sat back in her chair and eyed her hands, both clasped in her lap. Why would he think that? She finally peeked up at him, her eyes hidden behind her messy bangs, where she shook her head at him. No, no she hadn't been avoiding him. In fact, she'd struggled to think of anything else BUT him.
....she felt self conscious of the silence, but didn't want to say anymore. Instead, Aspen watched him through her hair - almost in that studying way again.

"We have a Hospital Wing here?!" Cornelius asked in all honesty as Aspen joked with him, honestly not even aware that that wing existed. There was so much to this castle! He should've figured though, he knew that there had to be some place for healing, but he didn't know there was a wing! He figured he would've seen a wing by now. But he was soon distracted from his discovery as Aspen responded to his earlier words, his voiced worry that she had been avoiding him.
And she didn't say anything. She leaned back into her seat and allowed her bangs to fall in front of her light eyes, shaking her head as her only response. Though it wasn't necessarily the response he had expected, and some might have even been a bit frustrated with the lack of words, Cornelius was inexplicably charmed by her.
It was a sudden and entirely foreign feeling to the young man who couldn't seem to keep the smile on his expression from growing, his gaze set on the girl who seemed to be hiding from it, though he couldn't understand why.
"That's a relief," he decided softly, and quite honestly, his features still lit up with a warm smile that he directly solely on Aspen.

Aspen couldn't quite tell if he was joking or not about the Hospital Wing. He seemed sincere enough, but... well, she didn't want to assume and go into her spiel about everything she knew about the Hospital Wing.
Besides, who had time for Hospital Wing lectures? Something much bigger was going on here. "Why?" she asked simply, not quite ready to push her hair out of her face and look at him properly. But his smile, and undeniable amiable charm was reassuring in a way Aspen never felt outside of her home.
"I didn't mean to make you feel avoided. I'm sorry." Honestly, if she could have made him feel ANY way (how DID someone make someone feel a certain way?Advanced Legilimency??) it would have been the direct opposite of avoidance.

Why? It was the one question he was unprepared for, and it caught him surprisingly off guard. Why. He had to ask himself that same question. Why was he relieved that she wasn't avoiding him? His smile faltered just slightly and his gaze fell to the table thoughtfully. She was gonna make him say it. But that was the problem, he wasn't even quite sure what 'it' was! All he knew was that seeing her suddenly made his week better, and that finding out she hadn't been purposely avoiding him lifted an unseen weight from his shoulders.
Before he could really respond, she had apologized for making him feel avoided. "Don't be sorry," he spoke with a weak smile, turning his eyes back to her kindly though there was still obvious thought behind his gaze.
He was still focused on her last question. Why.
"You shouldn't apologize for me being..." he tried to find the words. "Hyper-aware of you?" Cornelius let out a nervous chuckle, something he hadn't ever heard from himself before, and his slightly surprised expression reflected the unexpectedness of the laugh. "I dunno, I just..." Oh Merlin, here he was, attempting to say more than he ever wanted to say, and he didn't even know how to say it!
"I just...I wanted to see you..this past week," he admitted with a shrug and a weak smile, not knowing what he was saying or where it was going. "And I didn't seem to see you anywhere..and I thought...I dunno, I thought you might've decided to purposely not see me." Cornelius finally allowed his eyes to meet her own, matching her gaze through the bangs that separated them.

Oh Merlin...
Hyper-aware. Hyper-aware? Cornelius was hyper-aware of her. Aspen did want to look up the word, but she didn't really feel she needed to. She was pretty sure she knew exactly what he was saying to her. She just didn't know ... how to respond, or what 'it' actually meant, or if she should apologize again anyway for causing him hyper awareness. They were a matching pair of hypochondriacs with made up ailments: Weirditis and Hyper-Awareness.
He seemed so nervous, too. Maybe that was a symptom? As she tended to be, Aspen abruptly reached a hand out and felt his forehead. Was he running a fever? Maybe hyper-awareness was a REAL condition with symptoms! He DID feel warm, but Aspen got a little distracted and kind of forgot what she was doing to start with. She pushed his hair back off his forehead and then ran the back of her hand along his cheek. Those were kind of warm, too...
Here he was, talking about how he had wanted to see her, that he'd looked for her, and Aspen responds by A) thinking something is wrong with him and B) rubbing her hand all over his face.
"On the contrary, I wrote your name on my homework instead of mine and had to start over with new parchment. And we must have totally opposite schedules, because you weren't ever in the Great Hall. And you don't study here the same times I do." In other words, she had looked for him, too. But also, "I don't think you have a fever." You know, that's why she was feeling his face, "You're just warm."
Right. That said, Aspen stopped being ...all in his face and put her hands back in her lap. She smiled through her bangs at him, albeit it on the shy side. What was the normal way to smile at someone you had just felt the face of??
