The Divination classroom has once again been rearranged for another visiting professor. This time, however, the classroom has adopted an ordinary classroom setting, with tables and two chairs behind each one of them. Plain and simple. In the front of the classroom, a short and chubby lady covered in all shades of pink greets the students with a fit of indiscreet giggles, possibly making them feel like she is laughing at them, causing them to be uncomfortable and self-conscious. She covers her tiny mouth with her chubby hands every time someone else walks in, revealing her long, pink, and bedazzled nails. When she is not giggling she is readjusting her bubblegum pink blazer, which is two sizes too small, or fanning herself with her hand. The board behind her is clean and the table she is leaning against is empty.

Trance? What was this woman talking about?
Kurumi looked up from her note taking and blinked several times. Was note taking a crime now? She, as a student, was expected to do...was she not? Kurumi set her quill down and sort of just stared at the woman for a few moments before picking her quill back up and continuing with her notes.
Kurumi took the handout and began to read it over while also trying to process the ridiculous amount of information they had been given verbally. Merlin, her hand was going to fall off from all this note taking.
Finally catching up sort of with her notes, Kurumi set her quill down and attempted to prepare herself for the practical part of the lesson, skimming her notes again just to make sure it all made sense. Call her curious, but something sort of caught her attention and she raised her hand. "Madam Poppy," she said softly to get the woman's attention. "What...sort of side effects are there?" All magic had its costs, and, well, knowing what COULD happen would sort of help make sure that it didn't, right? "Are they side effects of the spells themselves? Or is it more from using Entrancing Enchantments too many times on the same subject?" Or something entirely different all together?

William hadn't been too certain the owl he'd gotten from one "Ms. Madam Poppy Prunella Pricklepot" wasn't just another prank a-la Aparecium, but after reading it over a few times and remembering Tate's memo about the seminar courses, he decided it was worth checking out. After all, she too suffered from the Letter Cubed name syndrome and her request had been one he simply could not turn down. It wasn't every day that a guy got to walk a dozen or more nifflers up and down the castle, was it?
So there he was, ushering a group of nifflers on leashes upstairs, up more stairs, and up yet more stairs until he arrived in what had been the Divination tower way back when he had attended Hogwarts. Willy peeked his head into the seminar and smirked at the sight of the ongoing class, or more specifically, smirked at the sight of the INCREDIBLY pink woman leading said class.
"Hello," the tall Creatures professor called out toward her with a wave, nudging the door open with his foot to make room for the fuzzy nifflers, all of whom were just going nuts with sniffling. "Where do you want these lil guys?"
He was going to stick around jussssssst long enough to set the nifflers loose, and then he was going back to his hut for a nap. Heh. Good luck, kiddies.

Alyssa's eyes opened in surprise when she saw Professor Williamson enter the class with a whole bunch of Nifflers on leashes. 'Are we going to be working with them? Cool!!'Alyssa thought to herself before remembering that she wanted to ask Madam Poppy a question.
So she slowly raised her hand and asked."Madam Poppy how long does a spell last? I guess we will know when it wears off but is there a timeframe on how long each one lasts?"
Glenn turned in her seat and saw the Care of Magical Creatures professor standing in the doorway with the nifflers. "Wha-" Glenn started, eyeing a particular niffler that seemed to be edging towards her wrist that had a single bracelet with small charms on it. Nifflers ripped those kind of things OFF of you, not to mention her golden studs in her ears. This could go sooo wrong if they were going to be released. But surely the "Auntie", despite her giggling and pink demeanour, wasn't evil enough to chuck them in the deep end with these creatures, was she?
Ellie's eyes grew wide at the woman's exclamation and...what was that? A spasm? A...jump? Was that supposed to be a jump? That was pathetic.
Overall, though, she was fairly pleased with herself for being oh-so RIGHT for once. Especially after the eye-roll she'd received from her previous answer. Not that impressing PPP was important to her or anything it just...felt nice to be correct.
However, what PPP added at the end did NOT sit well with her. "Ellie," she said, "My name's Ellie." NOT 'Little Darling'. Do NOT call her 'Little Darling'. EVER. Okay?
Okay.
Good.
Her eyes lowered to the desk and the paper the woman put onto it. It had FAR too much writing, truth be told. And homework? WHY did they have HOMEWORK?!
UGH.
She eyed Emrys and gave him a look of distaste. Work was gross, right? Right. History was gross, right? Right.
Ugh.
Poppy giggled when the girl introduced herself. Ellie was such a silly little name, she could not help but to giggle. But it wasn’t that funny, and five seconds later Poppy had forgotten her name. Penny, right? Yeah, Penny.

Poppy rested her hand on her waist as she tried to recall some examples of bad side effects. ”Well, there is the one I just told that little miss over there,” Poppy pointed to a Raenclaw girl, ”in regards to the Loyalty Inducing charm.” Maybe if she had been paying attention she would have heard it. Poppy was not repeating herself. ”The Cheering Charm can cause uncontrollable fits of laughter, if poorly executed, and people can die from laughing too hard, you know? There were also a few incidents in the 2040’s, I believe, were people who had performed the Flattery Charm caused real butterflies to appear in other people’s stomach.” Hopefully that was enough. Poppy paused and listened to Kara’s next question. ”Very good question! The side-effects are from the spells themselves. Some Entrancing Enchantments have intended and specific targets, and can’t be freely used on everyone and everything. For example, the Cheering Charm won’t work on dogs; it will make them have lung spasms, which may result in chocking or an asthma attack. Their tails will still wag, though. The ones I will be teaching are general spells so you won’t have this problem. Does that answer your question?”

Poppy blushed and giggled when the handsome man walked in the room. She ran towards him, causing very small earthquakes every time her weigh hit the floor. If he had been just a few more feet away, the Divination tower would have collapsed. ”Oooh, hello there!” She flirted and clutched his arm. ”Right there, let me help you!” She giggled again and led the man to the front of the classroom, still clinging to his arm. ”Just anywhere here will be fine, we will be using them in a jiffy, you beautiful creature.” Sadly, there were still some raised hands, and now there was a ‘professional’ in the room so Poppy had to act super extra good! She let go of his arm, regrettably, and turned her attention to the students.

”Yes, miss… Uhh, you!” Poppy pointed at the girl, then listened to her question. ”It’s the same as it is for any other spell, little darling. It takes concentration, lots of it. You may be able to make a spell last an hour or a week, but at your level of experience your spells will probably less about an hour or less. It takes practice and concentration. The affect of autogenous spells tends to be shorter, while the effect of heterogenous spells tend to last longer. Heterogenous are much easier perform, too.” With that, Poppy clapped her hands together and scanned the room for more hands. None? Good.

”Attention, please! We are going to start the practical portion of our class soon, so please pay attention. You will be dealing with nifflers, which can be nasty little animals. You must know that nifflers love gold and shiny trinkets, so here is your challenge.” She moved behind the desk, opened drawer, and pulled out a pink velvet bag from it. ”Inside this bag there are small shiny objects which will attract the nifflers,” which was why she wasn’t repealing them yet. ”Each one of you will work with one niffler and give it the shiny object. Once you attempt to retrieve it, the niffler will protest, so be careful! They can bite! What we are going to learn is to ease the retrieval of the item using the Befriending Charm. This charm will allow you to retrieve the charm from the niffler or even have the niffler offer it to you, depending on its potency. The Befriending Charm is a Heterogenous-Storge Entrancing Enchantment that only works on small animals, such as nifflers, owls, kneazle, and dogs. It will put the animal into a trance of trust, causing it not to fear the caster.
“Once you have cast the spell, you must pet the niffler! Petting or hugging an animal after casting the Befriending Charm helps strengthen its effect. Got it? You must take the item, hold it tightly in your hand, and present it to the niffler. A befriended niffler will not scratch your hand or bite you to take the item back, but otherwise it can. “ She swished her wand and the information appeared on the board.
Instructions 1. Take a shiny object from me the use it to lead one of the nifflers back to your desk. 2. Give the niffler the object and try to retrieve carefully, just to see its reaction. 3. Cast the Befriending Charm on the niffler and pet it. 4. Retrieve the item, hold it tightly in your hand and present it to the niffler.
Then she turned around and addressed the class again. ”Now, before we begin, you must learn the Befriending Charm. Wands out and ready!” She clapped and waited for them to follow her instruction. ”The incantation is Malin Calin.” She paused and repeated the incantation again, very clearly. ”MAH-len CAH-len. Repeat it with me, MAH-len CAH-len. Good, good. The Wand movement is a quick circle motion, and a flick at the end.” She demonstrated. ”Malin,” She said performing a circle with her wand, ”Calin,” she flicked it. "If performed correctly, a purple smoke will emit from your wand and surround the niffler." She turned to the board once again and made the instruction to the spell appear.
The Befriending Charm Incantation: Malin Calin Wand Movement: Circle and flick
”Now, come up and take an object, then approach the niffler, show it the object, and lead it back to your seat. Practice, practice, practice!”
OOC: For this practical portion of the class you must have five good posts to receive full credit. At least three of those posts must be practicing the spell, whether your character fails at first, or he/she just wants to practice on air a few times. Nifflers might growl or even scratch your character, but this will not kill your character, so don’t be a Poppy, or a drama queen.
There will be a second practical portion to this class, and once that begins you can't go back and complete this one. You will have 48 hours to complete this, until Thursday 4AM PST / Thursday 11AM GMT.
Poppy is still here if you need help or have questions. You may work in pairs, if you want to.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
The lesson was getting far too difficult for him so Daichi decided to just listen and see what happened. He had given up taking notes and was now leaning his head in his hand as he waited for ...something practical to do..
As he sighed, the Slytherin heard a sudden noise coming from behind the class and turned his body to see Professor Williamson in the doorway , holding a box with... creatures. Where those nifflers? What was he going to do with that? Automatically, he reached for his mothers ring around his finger and covered it with his other hand.
Daichi blinked at Auntie as she rushed over to Professor Williamson. It felt like the ground began to shake as she ran and he made an eewww face when she clutched on the man. When she addressed the class again he listened to the instructions and grinned when they had gotten to the practical part.
Malin Calin? that wasn't so difficult! Even for Daichi who had a nack of saying incantations wrong sometimes, hehe. The Slytherin took his wand out of his holster but then placed it on his desk. He wanted to practise saying the incantation first before he tried to do anything else. "MAH-len CAH-len" That sounded right.
"MAH-len CAH-len" "MAH-len CAH-len" Yep it was the same. The wand movement was not something he thought of practising on, since it was just a simple circle and flick. Alot of spells at them. Daichi grabbed his phoenix feather wand from his desk and got ready to practise the spell for real.
"Malin Calin!" he said and circled his wand with a flick. Nothing happened. Maybe he should concentrate more? Daichi concentrated on the spell and bit his lip softly. "Malin Calin!" He shouted and after doing the wand movement he saw light purple smoke come out of the wand. Woohoo~!
Now to grab a niffler. Daichi stood up from his chair and took of his mothers ring before pocketing it in his robe. The ring was of great importance to him and he didn't want any niffler grabbing it. Thinking the ring was secured he walked to the front of the class and grabbed a shiny object. Almost instantly, one of the nifflers had seen him grabbing the object and it began to move towards him. Daichi bend down to show his niffler the shiny thing and it tried to snatch it out of his hands with it's claws. Luckily, he had quick reflexes from having been in the Quidditch team before and he could just take his hand away before he would be scratched.
Well, it seemed that the niffler had its attention on him now. Daichi stood back up and while still showing the object to the animal he tried to go back to his seat. Which was luckily at the front of the class.

Real...butterflies?
o_____0
Kurumi swallowed hard at the image that suddenly popped into her head and her eyes widened. It wasn't a pretty picture. The example from earlier had been sort of comical at least, but real butterflies in one's stomach? Why...there wasn't anything comical about that at all. The prefect braced herself for further examples, but was rather grateful when they didn't come.
Kurumi jotted down a few notes as Madam Pink gave a little explanation about the effects, cringing a bit at the image of a dog having an asthma attack yet looking somewhat happy about it due to their tail wagging. Why were these enchantments sounding more and more frightening by the minute? Her eyes then drifted to Professor Williamson and his sneak of nifflers. So...those little guys wouldn't be harmed then, right? Since she would only be teacher them general spells. "I...think so," she said with a small nod, glancing down at her notes again. Since the part about side effects from using the spells too much on a being hadn't been addressed, Kurumi assumed that meant there was no risk involved. At least not with the ones at the level they were learning. "Um...thank you," she continued, with a small bow of her head followed by some more note taking.
SPOILER!!: Madam Pink & zee instructions

Nasty? Kurumi preferred to think of them as being magpie-like. It wasn't their fault that they had a severe case of magpie syndrome. May people liked gold and diamonds, and those people were not called nasty. Other words were used, yes, but not always nasty.
Kurumi wrote down a few notes and made a rather large scribble in the margin to note that this spell would work on Walnut. Good to know. It might come in handy the next time he tried to pee on someone. Before attempting to lead a niffler back to her desk, Kurumi sat up straight and decided to repeat the incantation and wand movement a few more times. She wouldn't be able to really practice it once she had the creature at her desk. "Mah-LEN-cah-LEN," she said, shaking her head at herself. That wasn't right. "MAH-len CAH-len." Better. That sounded more like what Madam Pink had said. Repeating it a few more times, Kurumi removed her wand from its holster and traced a circle in the air followed by a quick flick. That seemed about right...only way to find out was to actually get herself a niffler.
Rising from her seat now, Kurumi approached the bag and removed an object from it. Thankfully, the sparkly....whatever it was...was hanging on a chain which should make the process a little easier. Walnut was always more attracted to things hanging from string than her holding something in her hand at least. Leaning towards the nifflers now, Kurumi dangled the object back and forth until she got one of the beady eyed creature's attention. There we go...now...come to the desk...come on...
Backing away slowly...the Gryffindor made sure that the niffler continued to move forward until she felt her back collide with her desk. Phew. She had made it. The niffler climbed on top of her desk and snatched the object right out of her hands and instantly began to growl before she even did so much as look at him. "Erm...right..." she mumbled, picking up her wand again. She was supposed to try and take the object back now without using the spell? No thank you?

As she practically stared at the pink lady, Gwen felt her eyes starting to hurt. She soooo wasn’t going to survive this lesson. However, when she seemed to have calmed down a bit, someone else entered the classroom and the third year drew her attention towards… the care of magical creatures Professor. Why was he here? Perhaps BlinkyPinky was going to entrance him. Why—wait a second! Aren’t those nifflers?, the young Ravenclaw asked herself and remembered what she had ready about the creatures. Huh, good thing she didn’t have anything shiny at her. Phew.
Errr. Never mind.
Great. The pink lady was asking them to get something shiny and use it to lead the niffler. Fineee. She was going to do this. Or at least she’ll try! Grabbing a randem object, Gwendolyn shook it in front of one of the nifflers. Come oooon!‘Look at the shiny thing….’, she said, almost punching the niffler in the eye with it. Get it? Now come on!!! As the niffler came to follow her and Gwen congratulated herself for doing this right, she drew her attention towards… another creature coming after this one. WHY.IN.MERLIN’S.BEARD.WHERE.THEY.TWO?????
Shew.
Shew.
Go away. I only need one!, she thought and tried thinking of what she should do to get rid of the second one. Because she had no idea what to do, Gwen glimpsed back at BlinkyPinky and, even though she had tried HARD so far to avoid pronouncing her name any of which she suggested , she started talking: ‘Madam Poppy?’, she said, actually trying to sound nice, however, quite sure that she failed to do so. ‘Umm… I have a problem…’As you can very well see…‘WHY can’t I get only one?’Now shew, niffler numero dos.
With all this pink, Spike had been starting to regret coming to this seminar. And to make things worse, in his distracted and slightly disgusted state, he'd missed what the point of the seminar was. Namely, what an 'entrancing enchantment' was.
However, with the arrival of the Care of Magical Creatures professor, Spike soon perked up. There were nifflers! He grinned, and scanned the room for any shiny objects...girls wearing earrings, boys with shiny metal watches, that kind of thing. He was sensible enough not to go there.
Zoning back in on the lesson, he read the instructions. They were going to try and retrieve the metal object back from the niffler, with a spell. He laughed, though tried to stifle it for the purposes of Madam P. Yeeeeah, like that was going to work. Especially with Spike's charmwork. He'd quite happily play with the niffler though.
With a shrug he decided that he'd do the 'proper' practice bit first, and then he'd get himself a niffler!friend to play with. "Ma-len ca-len," he said to himself, before shaking his head with a bounce of his curls. "Ma-LEN ca-LEN," he repeated slowly. "Ma-LEN ca-LEN." Well, it was close. "Ma-LEN ca-LEN." Now, what was the wand movement again?
Post 1: Practising the spell and selecting Niffler
There's some good in this world and it's worth fighting for| LOTR|Whovian|Sherlock Fan
Alyssa quickly jotted down in the notes what the name of the spell was. Heterogenous Storge Befriending Charm otherwise known as the Malin Calin spell. Whoa that was a mouthful. Thank goodness that wasn't the incantation itself which was MAH-len-CAH-len. The wand movement was a quick circle with a flick. Now that she had everything written down, Alyssa first practised the incantation, slowly pronunciating each syllable. "MAH-len-CAH-len....MAH-len-CAH-len...MAH-len-CAH-Len". Once she was sure of the incantation, she practised the wand movements. Quick circle with a flick at the end. Quick circle and flick.
Now that she was comfortable with both incantation and the wand movement, Alyssa got up from her chair and went up front to pick a shiny object from the bag. She pulled out shiny gold bell hanging from a ribbon. She stuffed it into her pocket before making her way to where the Nifflers were. She knelt down and looked at each one of them. Alyssa then slowly took out the bell from her pocket making sure that it was fully concealed in her hand and walked a few feet away from the Nifflers. Then she slowly uncovered her fingers and waited to catch the eye of one of the Niffler. Sure enough, one of them blinked a couple of times when it spotted the bell and came towards her.
Alyssa slowly walked backwards, keeping an eye on the Niffler as it followed her all the way back to her desk. Once the Niffler reached her side, she knelt down on the floor and gave the Niffler the bell which was immediately grabbed out of her hand. She tried to take it back from it, but it showed it's teeth and growled.
'Okay time for the Malin Calin Entrancing Enchantment Spell.'Alyssa thought to herself as took out her wand and got ready to cast it.
Poppy giggled when the girl introduced herself. Ellie was such a silly little name, she could not help but to giggle. But it wasn’t that funny, and five seconds later Poppy had forgotten her name. Penny, right? Yeah, Penny.

"I don't see what's so funny." So, she shouldn't be giggling, okay? It was RUDE.
Ellie's attention turned to WWW and the...NIFFLERS!
D'awww.
It took much effort to keep her attention on PPP when there were NIFFLERS around. But she had her wand out and practiced the incantation along with PPP. Malin Calin. MAH-len CAH-len. Circle, flick. Got it.
The redhead twirled her wand in her fingers. Could she just summon over the Niffler and the shiny? So she didn't have to be too near PPP?
Probably not.
As soon as they were allowed, Ellie jumped up, quickly got a bag of shiny from PPP, cautiously, too, so she couldn't catch the PINK. Then bent over a friendly-enough looking Niffler, took out a shiny, and led it back to her seat with Emrys.
Carefully, she a hand underneath it, and raised it onto the table. It curled its toes in the process, digging its nails into her hand. But to Ellie, this was minor and not even worth flinching over. She dropped the shiny onto the table, so the Niffler would release her and gave it a moment, just so it can be happy with its accomplishment of FINALLY obtaining the shiny.
Then she swept in, using just her middle and index finger to pry the shiny away. To no avail, unsurprisingly. Aslan was the same way, no? And Ellie's spent enough time around her to know that she doesn't like her coins being taken away.
So Ellie raised her wand again, and directed it at the Niffler, "Malin," circle, "Calin," flick.

Amelia nodded as Poppy explained how Cheering Charms could be for people who were depressed. So now she knew that she couldn't ask Zayden or Ellie to cast one on her in order to cure the depression she had been feeling lately. She sighed now as she listened to further explanation of things. She took notes and looked at the sheet of paper that was being handed out to them.
She was interrupted in her thoughts, however, as the Care of Magical Creatures Professor had decided to pop into the classroom with some Nifflers. She knew that this was related somehow to the practical part, so it was clear to her that they would probably have to cast some charm on it.
Poppy's instructions made it clear and she was right in her supposition. She made a note of the spell that they had to work with as well as the specific instructions since she didn't want to mess this up and have to deal with an annoyed Niffler.
Taking her wand out now, Amelia put it on her desk. She wanted to try practicing the spell without it until she had the hang of things. She closed her eyes and started reciting it to herself: "Malin Calin... Malin Calin... MAH-lin CAH-lin... MAH-lin CAH-lin."

Before casting the spell, Alyssa made sure that she still remembered the incantation. "MAH-len-CAH-len...MAH-len-CAH-len...MAH-len-CAH-len" Once she was very sure of the incantation and the wand movements, Alyssa took out her wand. She looked at the Niffler standing on the ground in front of her. He was holding on tightly to the shiny bell. "Okay time for you to give it back to me" Alyssa told it.
She quickly moved her wand in a circular motion followed by a flick at the Niffler and said "MAH-len-CAH-len". A beam shot out and hit the Niffler. Alyssa was afraid that the spell had hurt the Niffler, but it seemed to shrug it off and didn't look like it was in pain. "Now to see whether the charm worked."Alyssa said to herself.
She moved closer to the Niffler and slowly reached out her hand to get the bell from it. It growled and snapped at her. Alyssa quickly withdrew her hand. It definitely looked like she had messed up on the spell.
It was then that she realized that she had forgotten to concentrate on what she wanted to do with the spell. Intent and Concentration That was two of the most important things to remember when casting the spell, and she had forgotten to do both. Alyssa was determined that she wouldn't forget to do both on her second attempt at casting the spell.

But that was okay, because this was a charm and Ellie was rather good at those, so she'd get it right soon.
And she tried again. "Malin Calin," circle, flick.
She GRINNED at the purple smoke. Because purple was PRETTY. But it seemed almost cruel to be doing this to the Niffler, it wasn't like they were VERY dangerous, and it was almost sad to see the pretty purple surround the innocent creature. But the fact that the Niffler didn't seem to mind was comforting.
Ellie reached out and stroked the Niffler. She really should give it a name. She named her Granian, after all. But she was TERRIBLE at naming thins, as proven by her owls.
Maybe it didn't need a name. She never named her pygmy puff and was just fine with that.....and then it went and ran off on her..... But that mattered not, for it wasn't as if she was keeping the Niffler. Besides, she might get attached to it if she named it. And that would just be unfair to the Niffler.
So no name.
Then Ellie went for the shiny again, after petting No-Name for a few minutes. He/She/It still wasn't exactly willing to give it up, but at least it was obtainable. "Why, thank you."

Emrys stood, reluctantly, rubbing the growing lump on the back of his head from before class and vanished the broken quill from his desktop. He wondered if putting on his gloves before handling the niffler would be a wise move, but chose against it, if only so he didn't have to go into his bag again.
Sighing, he moved to the front and retrieved the shiny object - a little nondescript bauble, but boy did it shine. Emrys was convinced he would lose a hand. Running a free hand through his hair, leaving it rather disheveled, Emrys considered the best way to get a niffler without ending up in the infirmary.
He decided he'd rather not touch it.
Crouching down, Emrys waved the bauble in front of a niffler, getting its attention. He stepped backward, still crouched, holding the bauble high enough that the niffler couldn't get to it. At least until Emrys' untied shoelace did him in.
With his left foot firmly on his right shoelace, the next step Emrys took sent him toppling, the bauble falling from his hand and skidding across the floor. Grimacing, Emrys rubbed his now bruised tailbone and looked around to discover that his niffler had it. And they were still in the middle of the aisle.

Kurumi locked eyes with the niffler as he continued to growl and be rather unpleasant while holding the shiny - his precious if you will. That IS what it looked like he was saying, come to think of it. Kurumi decided to try something that she did with Walnut when he was being unpleasant - the slow blink. It usually put creatures at ease and, well, maybe she would get lucky and be able to take the precious back without using the charm?
Sloooooowly, the Gryffindor closed her eyes and waited for some sort of reaction...which she got, but not in the way she had been hoping. The niffler let out a long and deep growl, sniffing the air for a moment before turning its nose up at her. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerm.... Kurumi's eyes flicked back to Madam Pink and she sighed. She still had to...test the waters as it were, right? Reluctantly, Kurumi reached forward and, with reflexes light lightening, the niffler swiped at Kurumi's hand, hissing like a tea pot on the stove. "Waaaaaah!" she squeaked, pulling her hand back. Right, got it. Your precious.
Picking up her wand now, Kurumi practice the circular movement and flick again while murmuring the spell to herself. Here goes nothing? The niffler was looking even fiercer than ever, which was unfortunate, and it made Kurumi even more nervous. "M-M-MAH-len CAH-len," she said rather unconvincingly. The first sign that the spell had gone wrong was the color of the smoke. It wasn't purple by any stretch of the imagination and resembled more of a dark teal than anything. The spell wrapped itself around the niffler and quickly faded away. It's beady eyes glared at her and it growled once again, pulling the precious closer to its furry body.
No need to try and take it. Kurumi could see that this attempt was nothing but fail.

After repeating the spell a few times, Amelia thought that it was a good time for her to start practicing it with the wand movement.
She did the circle and flick motion while saying, "Malin Calin."She repeated it a few times until she was sure that she was ready to try it with her wand.
Picking it up, she repeated the wand movement a few more times, saying "Malin Calin." Each time until she was sure that she was ready to try with a Niffler.
Leaving her table now, Amelia headed towards the box with objects and picked one out at random. She didn't look to see what it was, it was more important that she got a Niffler following her.
And sure enough one was! She saw it when she looked behind her while heading back to her desk.
When she was safely back there, she held her hand out with the object in it, waiting for the Niffler to take it from her.
Post 3: Another Attempt at taking the shiny object back

Alyssa continued to kneel down in front of the Niffler who was happily holding onto the shiny bell, jingling it as it played with it. Alyssa sighed. She felt so bad having to take the bell back from the Niffler, but she knew that she still had to at least attempt to.
But this time she did what she didn't do before. She first concentrated on what she wanted the spell to do and how she was going to get it done. Focussing on the spell itself and it's intent, Alyssa took out her wand and with a quick circle and flick motion said,"MAH-len-CAH-len". A beam of purplish light shot out and surrounded the Niffler. It stood still for a second like it was stunned. Alyssa was worried that the spell had hurt the creature. She quickly knelt over and reached out to grab it and before she realized what had happened, she had the Niffler in her arms and the bell in her hand. SHE HAD NIFFLER IN HER ARMS AND THE BELL TOO?? THE SPELL HAD WORKED!!.
Alyssa cuddled the Niffler making sure that the spell hadn't hurt it for what seemed like a minute before placing it back on the ground, just in case the spell wore out faster than it should. Now for the next test of the spell.
Post Two - niffler problem solving (spell attempt 1)
Granddaddy Ravenclaw | | Jermione Granger
Well, luring the niffler with the shiny bauble was certainly out of the question now and Emrys sat in the middle of the floor staring down his shiny-stealing niffler. He thought, for a moment, about going to get a second shiny trinket to lure the niffler with, but the thought of going back up to Poppy was giving him hives.
Or maybe it was the niffler.
In any event, Emrys decided that the middle of the aisle was as good a place as any to try the spell. Scrambling to his knees, he pulled his wand out of his robes and cleared his throat.
"MAH-len CAH-len," he intoned, mimicking the circular wand movement and flick that had been demonstrated. Smoke did pour from the tip of his wand, but instead of a delightful, friendly purple, a thick, split-pea fog billowed out and toward the creature.
Emrys scrambled to his feet as the cloud enveloped the niffler, making it anything but cheery. The creature snarled and, in a panic, Emrys flicked his wand. "Accio bauble."
The trinket flew into his hand, but the niffler snarled and started for Emrys' feet. That was one way to get the creature to his table. Emrys high-stepped it back to his area, fearful for his ankles, conspicuously throwing the bauble on the table-top for the niffler to chase.

For his credit, William did not scream out when Poppy attached herself to his arm. He blinked and stared around at the students, almost with a 'RESCUE ME!' expression on his face as she led him to the front of the room. When she released her hold on him, he squatted down to check on the nifflers and, after the woman had delivered her directions, he let them loose.
"Is there anything else you need from me, Madam Poppy?" he asked quietly, straightening back up and watching the kids interact with the nifflers. "This is a good group," of nifflers, anyway, "so they shouldn't cause the students too many problems."
SHOULDN'T being the key word here.

Alyssa petted the Niffler sitting happily in front of her. He even seemed to enjoy it. Alyssa looked across at her other fellow classmates who were either trying to first charm the Niffler or had not charmed the Niffler and decided to grab the shiny object from it without even attempting to do so. As for Alyssa she had given the object, managed to finally charm it, and gotten the object back, but now had to see whether by giving it back to the Niffler, that it would not bite off her hand when she did.
Alyssa took a deep breath and closed her eyes, before she realized what she was doing. She slowly peeked out from the corner of them, as she cautiously placed her hand still tightly holding the shiny bell in it, in front of the Niffler. She slowly unclutched her fingers and opened them one at a time, revealing the shiny object in the palm of her hand. The Niffler blinked as it looked at the shiny bell. Then it looked at her before looking down at the shiny bell in her hand in her palm again. Alyssa held her breath. The Niffler stuck out his paw and slowly took the bell out of her palm. It cuddled the bell in it's paws and looked at her meekly.

Ignoring the interaction between Madam Pink and Professor Williamson for now, although she DID catch his pleading look, Kurumi tapped her wand against her bottom lip as she studied the still growling niffler on her desk. It was obvious that the dark teal smoke had agitated the creature - perhaps even done the opposite effect that the spell was intended for - and now Kurumi had to try and fix things somehow. Merlin help her...
Kurumi rolled up her sleeves now, because that somehow made the task ahead of her seem less daunting. Okay...how about trying not on the creature first to make sure that the smoke was the right color this time? Wand back down on the table, Kurumi repeated the incantation to be sure that she wouldn't stutter through it this time. "MAH-len CAH-len...MAH-len CAH-len..." she said as she traced her finger in the air as if it was her wand. Wand back in her hand now, Kurumi used her book as a target to practice on. Nothing would happen if she used it on a book, right? It was an inanimate object with no mood to alter or influence. "MAH-len CAH-len," she repeated, making the circular wand movement and flick as had been instructed. This time, thankfully, a thick purple smoke emitted from her wand and wrapped itself around her book where...nothing else happened. Good, maybe NOW she could perform it properly on her niffler?
Growling in anticipation for what Kurumi was about to go, the niffler hissed and gnawed on the trinket. "MAH-len CAH-len." Kurumi watched as the purple smoke glided through the air and wrapped itself around the niffler. Was it safe?

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
The look on Williamson's face when Auntie grabbed his arm and dragged him to the front was simply PRICELESS! And when Daichi caught it he couldn't help but laugh by holding his hand in front of his mouth in order to keep himself from bursting out laughing.
He had forgotten about his niffler following him back to his desk for a second and only remembered when the creature began to poke on his leg. Looking down, Daichi showed it his shiny object and soon he was seated at his desk.
The niffler jumped on it and before he knew what happened, his shiny thing was snatched away by the niffler. That was not suppose to happen! He should have given it to him...or her.. The third year reached forward to grab the object back when the niffler began to growl at him and tried to snap his fingers.
His breathing intensified as he was shocked by the sudden behaviour and quickly withdrew his hand back. Just grabbing it wasn't going to work, he thought as he eyed the growling creature. Taking out his wand from his holster, Daichi pointed it at the now curious and slightly scared looking creature when it saw the wand. But Daichi didn't think he could perform it on the creature just yet. What if he accidentally exploded the poor thing?! It wouldn't be the first time...
So he let the Niffler holding his shiny object as he practised in thin air again. "Malin Calin!" he shouted and circled his wand with a flick. There was a very faint cloud of light pink/lavender coloured smoke but their task was to get a purple one.

Ella was going to have to work with a WHAT? A niffler? Didn't they have a habit of scratching? Ella shrugged, deciding to see this as an oppertunity to learn more about the magical creatures. First though she would need to be able to perform the spell.
Ella decided to focus on the incantation first, placing her wand in her robe pocket. What was the incantation again? Something that rhymed...oh right, Malin Calin! "MAH-len CAH-lean...no that's not right...MAH-len CAH-len..." She looked around, listening to her classmates to make sure she was saying it correctly. "Seems right. "MAH-len CAH-len...MAH-len CAH-len...MAH-len CAH-len"
Now that she had the pronunciation down, Ella pulled out her wand, ready to put it into action.

post 4 - petting the niffler!

Kurumi waited for some sort of reaction from the niffler as it continued to clutch its precious, but nothing ever came. No more growling. No narrowing its eyes. No sticking its nose up in the air. Nothing. Well, these was a SLIGHT change in the creature's body position as some of the tension in his slender frame was lessened.
Kurumi leaned forward a bit and slowly closed her eyes and opened them. To the Gryffindor's delight, the niffler returned the gesture which meant that it was safe to reached out and touch him. Which she did...with a slightly trembling hand. "Oh thank Merlin," she said in an exasperated tone as she patted the top of his head and moved her hand under his chin to scratch a bit more there. "There's a good boy," she smiled, her eyes looking at the object still in his possession. She scratched the creature under his chin a bit more with one hand while her other reached forward and gently tugged on the shiny.
