The glittering night sky is clear and visible through the enchanted ceiling, and the floating candles bedeck the entire hall in a warm golden light. All seems well with the world, aside from the empty plates still waiting for food to appear.
I'm trying to do 2 quotes in one...let's hope this works

But that idea didn't last long because they started talking about Charms. "That's my favorite class," he said, his voice surprisingly cheerful. And it had been his favorite since his first year of school.
Then he was being introduced to the first year. He raised his eyebrows at what Louisa said about his 'active eyebrows' - only proving the truth behind her words - and then turned his attention to the smaller girl. Lily. "Nice to meet you too, Lily," he said with a light chuckle as he shook her hand. "Welcome to Hogwarts." It seemed like his bad mood was starting to fade; he was able to actually be genuine as he welcome the girl to Hogwarts. Nice.
And - oh. The Headmaster's speech. And a house elf! Dallin felt himself grinning as the little thing talked. The baby hadn't been given a name yet? "We get to choose the name?" Maybe he hadn't heard right... or misunderstood. But that sounded fun!

Politely, the older girl busied herself with the food to give Lily some time. That was what Louisa would've wanted from people if she was swallowing tears back.
And it proved to be a success! Lily shook Dal's hand and was not blushing anymore. With a satisfied and rather smug smile Louisa nodded her head at Dallin, "Yes. Imagine that? We're to name the baby house elf that caused havoc last term." She scoffed. Turning her head to Lily, she explained briefly, "That is a house elf. Her name is Nimma and she, among others, is responsible of keeping Hogwarts clean and the students served well," beginning from the top here, "Last year, they found a baby house elf in the rubbish bins. Or so they said." Louisa shot a look at where Nimma had stood and made her speech, "The baby was... into antics and whatnot. But he's not scary." The fifth year student left out her desire to take him to a lab and inspect him and went on with her tale, "The students helped finding him when he got lost. And now the house elves are asking for our help once again." Which was... interesting. Tate had given them way too much liberty.
Sipping from her pumpkin juice, Louisa started scooping from her pudding when she suddenly turned her attention back to Dallin, "Where is Ellie?" HMM?
Lily smiled a quick smile as she shook Dallin's hand. "Thanks, I'm excited to be here." and nervous she said.
Lily looked at Louisa as she explained about the creature(the house elf) that had spoken to them. As Lily learned of the baby house elf, her mind wandered to another elf wow, I had only thought that elves were fairytale creatures, like santa's elves. I wonder what other kinds of creatures there are in this wizarding world. "Do you learn about these kinds of creatures in class?" She asked after Louisa told her about the mischief of the baby house elf. "and do you think there is going to be more trouble from the baby house elf?" Lily's mind wandered again but now to the request of the house elf. I wonder what you would name a house elf... would it be a common name? she thought.
As Louisa began to talk to Dallin, Lily turned again to the food that filled the table. She took enough food to fill her up and began to eat.
Chris had looked around after the Sorting Ceremony to see if he could find Angie. He had spotted her at the Ravenclaw table and walked over to talk. He stood near her and said, "Congratulations! I told you you'd be in this house!"
Angie started and whipped around, looking at Chris with a sort of gleam in her eye. She was, very plainly, happy to see him. "H-hey! Thanks!" she looked down at her robes, now Ravenclaw colors. "I feel like I've been wearing this thing forever. It just feels... Right on me for some reason." Angie had a HUGE grin on her face.

"Yeah! You were definitely born to wear those colors!" Chris said, thinking of how the blue of her robes really highlighted her eyes...

She was confident and had never been like this at a foreign place before. Now if only she could keep her friend that had helped her get this far and maybe gain more. Oh how she was going to have to thank Louisa for making her feel comfortable!
Lana was starting to feel less nervous as she listened to everything around her. There was so much to take in and she looked up toward the staff table and tilted her head. She didn't know anything about who was all up there and whom was who, but she figured she would learn once the term began. She figured out who was the headmaster without much trouble and listened to his speech quietly. Maybe this place wasn't going to be to bad and she would make it without having her sister in her house.
Noticing someone approaching her, she looked over the girl and smiled. "Hi, I'm Lana and thank you. I would like that." She didn't want to be all alone at the table where everyone seemed to know each other. Glancing over at the Hufflepuff table, she noticed how her sister was getting on and smiled. Yes, they would surely make it through this.

Lily brought Lana over to where she was sitting. " So, do you like Hogwarts so far? I think it's amazing. I'm a first year and a muggleborn so I had never heard of magic before this summer. What about you?" Lily asked as she resumed eating. She wasn't sure what was going to happen next but she was sure that she wasn't going to be hungry after this.
Jez was still destroying a chicken drumstick when Pam and Nate announced that he had fainted. She choked, grabbing a napkin. When the coughing had stopped, she stared up at her three friends. "You what? What was that about?" She wanted information, so she waved away Nate's question about her recent whereabouts. "Around, you know me. Seriously, what happened? And what's with the house-elf up near the staff table?" Jez glanced around the table, wondering if Jayden was still angry with her.

And they didn't have much of her mom's cooking today, so it wouldn't have been that.
Nate glanced around again--he had been doing that a lot today--and turned back to face Jez and Pam. "Yes, Jez, I fainted. I was feeling sick, and poof, fainted. But when I woke up I felt perfectly fine, so I doubt it was actually train sickness. I actually think Team Wolf had something to do with it," he said. He shifted in his chair, getting slightly more comfortable. Boy, he couldn't wait to go sit on that couch in the common room with Jez and Pam, talking about the people who were trying to kill them all. He was more looking forward to the couch than the conversation...
"Pam, good question. And the answer worries me," Nate admitted before continuing. "The last thing I ate, besides some snacks from the trolley, was at your house. I had a bowl of soup around lunchtime. I doubt that Wolf would have poisoned the Hogwarts Express snack trolley. It would have had too much potential collateral damage. Hit men aren't too big on collateral damage. They prefer a clean kill on their target without anyone else knowing." Nate finished up what he was saying and went back to his loaded sweet potato (yep, with marshmallows and everything) and waited for a response.

Pam nodded. "I can ask my mom where she got the soup from, and how recent it was. If it was fairly recent, it could have been Team Wolf." She didn't think her mom was stupid enough, at a time like this, to take something from strangers. Maybe something happened at the store, or she got it from someone at DA. But if Nate ate it, someone else could have. "Nate, was it just you who ate the soup?"

Nate looked down at his shoes, inspecting the pattern that the laces made. "Yeah, it was. There was only enough for me, anyways. But Keegan had wanted some," Nate said, setting his fork down and unlacing his left shoe. The patterns were wrong. Each shoe should have been a mirror of the other one, not an identical lace design...

Lana took a seat and settled in. She felt a little more at ease now that she wasn't alone at the table. Lily had been nice enough to include her and that did ease her nerves a lot. "Yes, it's so much more than I imagined," she replied with a smile. "I'm a first year too, but both my parents are magical. They just never told us." She figured it was probably because of how her grams on her mother's side felt about magic. She knew something was no right when she was younger and how their parents seemed so tense around her grams and all. "My father used to tell me stories about magic all the time, but I thought they were just stories until I got my letter." It was a bit surreal when she finally got her letter and she was told the truth, but she thought she handled it well.

"That's really neat that you and your parents can now share something so amazing like magic." Lily said smiling back at Lana. Lily was glad that she was able to meet someone in the same year as her since this meant that they would share the same classes, maybe even the same dorm. It was always nice to have at least one friend of the same age as yourself. "Do you have any siblings?" asked Lily thinking about her family back home.
Lily was now feeling even more comfortable at the school now that she had started to make friends. She had an older student to be like a big sister, or a guide to help make the first year a little easier and she had another student in the same year so that she would know someone in her classes. At least it's a start to something. Hopefully this will progress into a friendship. thought Lily. I just don't want to be alone for those times you need a friend for. Lily turned back to Lana and smiled. "What are you looking forward to the most?" she asked.

Vlimia overheard the word siblings from another person's conversation. That reminded her of her big brother, who was sitting at the Slytherin table, making an incredulous face at her. She supposed he was surprised at the fact that she was a Ravenclaw. So was Vlim, but she wanted to just blend in instead of having everybody regard her as the Ravenclaw from the all-Slytherin family. She quickly put a hand on her emerald ring and thought 'Don't tell anyone about my house. Mum and Dad don't need to know, and you won't tell them.' When she was done, Vlim watched the ring glow and then fade. She slipped it into her pocket, looking at her brother. It seemed he had got the message, and was trying to reply. Too bad her ring was in her pocket. Vlimia smiled slightly, taking a sip of pumpkin juice.

Weird. They were supposed to name the baby house elf. It kind of sounded fun, but Dallin still thought it was weird. Why couldn't the little creature just have a name that another elf gave it? That would make more sense... but oh well. Maybe there would be a competition to pick the baby elf's name. That would be fun.
As Lily started talking to Louisa again, Dallin turned his attention to the food that was now on the table. Well, this is what he came for in the first place... He started piling all sorts of food onto his plate. Probably too much food, actually. But that was okay, he was going to eat as much as he could. He poured himself some pumpkin juice, too, and started drinking it before Louisa asked him a question again.
"Ellie?" That surprised him, actually. He didn't think Louisa had ever asked him where she was. But apparently they were friends now, so maybe he shouldn't be so surprised. "I don't know. She wasn't going to come either... but she might." They'd both kinda been feeling the same way about the feast earlier, but maybe Ellie would change her mind too.

Jez went white. "Did Keegan have any?" she asked with a fair degree of urgency in her voice. It faintly annoyed her that Nate seemed to have no regard of what this could mean. Was Team Wolf now trying to kill the Blacks' friends as well? "Stop with the shoes already!" she cried, finally coming at the end of her tether. "Aren't you at least a bit worried? What if they try to poison your parents next?!" The last sentence was directed at Pam as well. Jez set down her cutlery and folded her arms, glaring pointedly at her friends.

"Jezabel Black." Pam said with a stern voice. "Don't you dare think I don't. Our parents are smart. If anything serious went down, they'd be taken down to the hospital. It may not do much, but it'll help." Pam's eyes started turning amber, and she lowered her voice to keep her from screaming. "I care for my parents. I've been worried ever since you left us at the station. Don't you dare think otherwise." Pam whiped her head back down to her food and started eating. Since she was done talking, she needed something else to do to keep herself from exploading.

When Jez's voice got heated Nate shot up from under the table, successfully hitting his head on the underside of said table. "Ouch..." he murmured, rubbing the back of his skull. But there were more important things to worry about. "No, Keegan didn't have any. There was only enough for me. But I do understand what this means, and I'm extremely scared. I'm trying to hide it as well as I can..." Nate admitted. After fainting, he didn't need any more attention on him. After all, they had all night to talk about it in the common room, and that was a much better place to worry. "I don't need more publicity," he added, extending a hand for a quick squeeze of Jez's. That was what Nate needed. Comfort. And the food was helping, but it wasn't enough. What he really needed was to know that Pam and Jez were safe. Then he could worry about his parents.

That was him right? The guy who called her cute? The guy who broke up with Pam? Right?
Katie looked at him closer, it had to be him! "I know you right?" Katie said, it was a bit silly asking that but she was sure she did but she wasn't one to remember a face she didn't care about so his face had gone out of her memory.

Jez sighed, not able to stay angry. "I just wish ... you guys would listen when we said you'd be in danger," she mumbled. How many times had she been shouted down by Nate and Pam over the summer for hinting that the Blacks should move out and find another place to stay? She couldn't remember. But she knew it was too many times. "Too persistent, the both of you," she groaned, rubbing her temples. She looked at Pam, knowing she owed her an apology. "I'm sorry. It was a stupid thing to say, I know you care about your parents." She'd seen it over the holidays, and felt insanely envious. Pam and her parents were a happy family unit. Jez's own parents hadn't cared much, and if they did they hadn't let on. "I'm really sorry," she said softly. Then she sat bolt upright. "We should send an owl to your parents telling them to check the food! If Team Wolf could get poison or whatever it was into a soup then they could easily have contaminated other foods too!"

"We should send an owl to your parents telling them to check the food! If Team Wolf could get poison or whatever it was into a soup then they could easily have contaminated other foods too!"
"I'll send out a letter with Teri as soon as we get back up to the common rooms." Pam sighed. "I don't act like I listen. I try to ignore that fact. But ever since the incident with Nate," She paused and looked over at him and sighed again. "Look, Jez, I do listen. I know we're in danger, and we knew there was danger in taking you into our house, but that's what we go through for the people we love." Pam half smiled, trying to chear her up. Although their families were in danger, they were at Hogwarts after all, and they were there to learn about magic.
Rubbing his head from the impact with the bottom of the table, Nate looked up at the voice. Expecting to see a second year, Nate leaned back slightly when he first saw Katie standing there. She was older, by at least two years. He could tell by her face. "Do you?" he asked, slightly confused. How could a fifth year know him? Nate wasn't the most popular student at Hogwarts, so he couldn't come up with a reason as to why this girl was even giving him a passing glance, let alone a vague greeting like 'I know you, right?'...

But she knew it was too many times. "Too persistent, the both of you," she groaned, rubbing her temples. She looked at Pam, knowing she owed her an apology. "I'm sorry. Nate didn't let go of Jez's hand, but squeezed tighter. "Calm, please. I think that somehow the poison was only meant as a warning to me, and I have reasons to believe so." He didn't want to think he was paranoid, but Nate was sure this time that that temporary poison was meant directly for him. And he was still expecting a letter later in the week, written in red type font.
Turning back to his food, Nate picked up his fork left-handedly--his right was occupied--and tried to guide a scoop of pudding into his mouth. This act wasn't going over well. The pudding continued to make contact with Nate's cheek, his nose, his chin, basically anywhere on his face that wasn't his mouth. But, as Jez had said earlier, 'Too persistent.'
