QUIDDITCH?!

They were focusing on QUIDDITCH?!

Vashti knew this lesson would be good but now it suddenly got even better.

She raised her hand, grinning. "The name comes from the place where the game was first recorded - Queerditch Marsh. The one who kept a diary about it was Gertie Keddle, a witch who lived nearby."

"You almost had it," replied Vindictus. "Gertie's last name is 'Keddle' and not 'Kendall'. One point for your answer."

The next four answers made the Deputy Headmaster smile. "That's absolutely correct, Ellie, Vashti, Taylor and Kennedy! Two points to each of you for your accurate answers. Now, let's move on!"

"About a hundred years later, the wizard Goodwin Kneen wrote a letter to his cousin Olaf. In his letter, which is deposited in the Norwegian Ministry of Magic, he mentions today's position of Chaser and references a Bludger. What two terms did he use for these?

Points--now they were talking! Sierra grinned as she received full credit for her answer. She'd actually forgotten that the other S-worded game, however it was pronounced, was still played today. She'd just lucked out by choosing it as the one she didn't name. Merlin was on her side today!

Hearing another question, Sierra raised her hand. "Gertie Keddle was the one who kept the diary, and she lived on the edge of a place called Queerditch Marsh. That's where the name came from," she said.

Lily listened quietly off to the side until they reached a question she could answer. She put her hand up before spitting out the answer. "He calls a chaser a catcher and a bludger a blooder..." Then after that Lily wondered...could it be a blooder because it made people bleed? But since the class would most likely be continuing, the first year didn't bother asking.

He was liking this! A lot.

Kennedy readied himself for another question, and after it was asked he raised his hand. "For Chaser he used the term 'Catchers'," he said, "and for Bludger the term 'Blooder' was used," he finished. See, who needed sleep when you could stay up all night reading about Quidditch? Kennedy certainly didn't!

Sierra's jaw dropped as she lowered her hand. Dear MERLIN! She'd barely opened her mouth to say her answer when Vinny Boy was already moving on. Geez. This class was running like a Quidditch match, which meant Sierra should probably get a move on. Her hand shot into the air. "That'd be catcher and blooder," she said.

"Sierra, Lily, and Kennedy are all correct. One point each for knowing such an important piece of Quidditch history," replied Vindictus. "Let us not forget that the Golden Snidget was replaced by the Golden Snitch and that the Hunter is now called the Seeker. I know that every wizarding child is familiar with the game of Quidditch and many dream of becoming a professional, like me."

Grin.

Wink.

"But I'm sorry to disappoint - we are not playing Quidditch today."

Pause.

"We're going to play a game that is somewhat foreign to many of us. Does anyone know the name of the American variant of Quidditch?"

Alyssa was disappointed that she had mispronounced the writer's name but was determined to get this next answer correct. She thought carefully before raising her hand to answer. "Professor the position of Chaser back in those days was Catcher and the term for a Bludger was Blooder."

Then she heard the Professor ask his next question. She quickly raised her hand. "Professor the American variation of Quidditch is called Quodpot."

*STARE*

That is all Kurumi was doing through these questions and answers because she had no idea. Professor Vindictus' words sounded like muffled honks and buzzes like in that one old animated TV program she had seen on the television in department stores back home.

Despite playing Seeker for two terms, Kurumi still did not understand much about the sport. She only knew that she was supposed to look for the Snitch and not really pay attention to anything else. So...that is what she did so a fault.

American Quidditch? Pfft. She hardly understood British Quidditch. So, Kurumi just sat and stared some more.

A PROFESSIONAL?

Like...famous...and stuff?

Kennedy's eyes slightly widened, but he quickly regained his composure. Calm down, Kennedy, you can ask for his autograph after the lesson is over.

And...they weren't playing Quidditch. Ah snap!

At the next question, the prefect's hand flew into the air...again. "It's Quodpot," he said. It had an exploding ball...hmm...he wondered if it hurt if it exploded on someone?

Hmm...

Josephina had been standing just a bit a ways from where Vindictus was getting things settled with the start of the lesson. Observing as they had a small question and answering question, she folded her arms and waited for the cue to take a broomstick and kick off into the air for the game.

Though she had no idea what the game was. Or even if she would be able to handle it, but for some reason she had the feeling like she wanted to be on a broom. Today. And what better way then to do it then under the instruction of Max Vindictus.

That was her story. Not that anyone would ask her. Nor would she necessarily tell them ....

They...weren't playing Quidditch?

Vashti tried to hide her disappointment (and possibly failed), but she attempted to not think about it by focusing on the next question that was asked. An American variant of Quidditch? She had to pause to recall what the name was, raising her hand once she had. "I believe it's called Quodpot." Didn't sound nearly as cool as Quidditch, though.

As she lowered her hand, she cast a glance around the area and... Hey.

Was that Professor Hadley?

"Correct! One point to each of you," replied a cheerful Vindictus. "I want everyone to grab a broom and a pair of goggles while I set up a few things."

He walked over to the first crate and opened it up. Inside were two stacked cauldrons. He took them out of the crate and sat them on the grass. Reaching inside one of the cauldrons, he pulled out a large glass container containing a bluish-green solution. Vindictus uncorked it and poured half of the bottle's contents into the first caulron. He then poured the remainer in the other cauldron. Taking out his wand, he levitated the cauldrons to opposite ends of the practice pitch.

Now it was time to open the second crate. The lid was off. Inside were several dozen what looked to be Quaffles, but they weren't.

He pointed to the balls. "Quods. Modified Quaffles that explode if you hold onto them for too long. The objective is to get the Quod into the cauldron before it explodes. When you do that, your team scores. The solution that you watched me pour into the cauldrons prevent the Quod from exploding."

Grin.

"Before we start playing, does anyone know who invented Quodpot?" he asked and he nodded at Josephina. If she was here, that meant that the others would slowly trickle in.

They were going to play Quodpot? Alyssa was excited that she almost forgot to answer the Professor's question. But she managed to calm herself just in time to raise her hand and answer. "Professor the person who invented Quodpot was someone by the name of Abraham Peasegood."

Then she quickly walked over to the rack of brooms and pulled one out and grabbed a pair of goggles and put them on.

Oh...he had confused two of the games and given the one still played. Oh well.

Gideon had then been quiet, listening to the answers of his fellow classmates as they answered Professor Vindictus' further questions. He finally spoke up one more to supply the creator of quadpot hoping to be sucessful this time as he raised his hand once more. "I believe that is Abraham Peasegood."

The possibility of learning a bit more about flying was just too good to pass up. Even if she was a bit late, Medea walked down to where the lesson was being held, having all intentions of perhaps just observing and standing as far to the side as possible. Maybe. Observing was good. It didn't involve falling off of things.

Though actually participating was starting to sound more and more fun, regardless of inexperience. Coming to a halt as she made it to the class, standing near Hadley, Medea nodded shortly to Vindictus. Oh! Quodpot.

What...was that?

*STARE*

So...Kurumi's goal for the lesson was to avoid the cauldrons and all explosions. Yep. Just fly around on her broom avoiding everything that she possibly could. Maybe hang out with Professor Hadley in the air...Professor Hadley? When did she get here?

When the next question was asked, Kurumi STARED at Professor Vindictus again and stupidly raised her hand despite not knowing the answer. Panicking for a moment, Kurumi knew she had to say something since she had offered up her hand to indicate she had something to say. So, stupidly, she opened her mouth. "An...American..."

Shutting up.

OH! Professor Romanos was here too! Kurumi would hang out by her. Yep.

As he went to retrieve a broom and a pair of goggles, Kennedy wondered what Vindictus was doing? The prefect didn't have to wait long to get an answer.

OH.

That was interesting. Really interesting. To the next question he raised his hand. "Abraham Peasegood invented the Quodpot," he said, his eyes still focused on the cauldrons. What was that solution made of?

Quodpot? Are they gonna play Quodpot today? That would be interesting. He never played Quodpot before. Messer raised his hand before he answered the question "Its invented by Abraham Peasegood, Sir." he said then his eyes caught a very familiar face. Its his Head of House and look Professor Romanos was there too.

Willy had heard word that there were going to be exploding thingies in and or around the Quidditch pitch today, so naturally, he had to be there to watch. He'd even thrown on his old Keeper elbow pads and gloves, and had a pair of goofy, waaaaaaay-too-small-for-his-gaint-head goggles strapped on top of his hair.

Heh. QUODPOT. Explodey thingies. The professor rocked back on his heels and wiggled his eyebrows at the cauldrons he watched Vindictus set up.

This should be fun.

"Correct! One point to each of you," replied Vindictus. "Now, I'd like for everyone to take to the skies!" He pulled out his whistle and brought it to his lips.

Vindictus watched as those participating in the game of Quodpot took to the sky. He took the scarlet Quod and tossed it to the group of Hogwarts Staff hovering nearby.

Professor Romanos takes the Quod and zooms down the pitch . . . she dodges several students who gape at her in amazement . . . she reaches the cauldron . . . DING! Professor Romanos scores for the Hogwarts staff a few seconds before the Quod can explode! The Quod is retrieved from the cauldron and given to Gryffindor.
