This office has been the home to a number of esteemed astronomers over the years since Hogwarts founding they are; Bade Ziarre, Zaria Dainsie, Laura Rierdan, Mallory Hutchinson, Hazelle Belle, the late Edward Forrester, Linnea West, Maidiee Mc Farlane, Risu Antares and currently Professor Edvard Roslund.
The first thing you see when you enter the office is two big comfy chairs that look inviting. In front of them stands a big, sturdy oak desk with all the necessities a professor might need like quills, ink bottles and stacks of parchment. Professor Roslund has his own chair behind the desk which looks similar to a comfy chair, but isn't. It was specially designed by his brother with a lot of different handy features both magical and muggle. I wouldn't sit in it unless, Professor Roslund is present there is no telling what might happen otherwise.
On the wall behind the desk a few picture frames of the Roslund family are put up. To the left and right of the picture frames, book shelves and cup boards bursting with astronomy books, instruments and equipment can be found. To the left of the room when you enter there is a small fireplace with a fire usually burning.
OOC: No, there is no waiting area, but please do not clog up this thread with useless chatter of 'waiting to enter'. Have your character knock and then wait for Professor Roslund to respond to either enter or to come back later.
There are plenty of places around the school that allow for chat with your friends; Professor Roslund's office is NOT the place for it and doing as such will be cause for appropriate discipline actions.
Any questions or concerns or appointment requests, please PM me. I'm trying something new this term.
"Pleasure to meet you, sir." Messer said and gave the Professor a small smile. Then he cringed a little when Professor Roslund called him by his first name. Its not like he didn't like his first name but it reminds him of his father's name and he's not his father. But he grinned when he heard the Professor corrected himself and called him Messer. "Yes. I like star-gazing." Actually Roslund's class was one of the class he's excited for. "How about you, Professor?" he asked even though he could guess his answer. "Are we gonna do some star-gazing on your first class, sir?" He hoped so.
Grinning at the young badger Professor Roslund nodded "Yes we will do some star-gazing in class Messer. Just maybe not in the traditional way." He winked at the boy before taking a sip of tea from the cup resting on his desk."Star-gazing has always been a small passion of mine since I was about your age and got a telescope from my grandfather." He revealed to the badger. "So how do you like Hogwarts so far Messer, made any friends?" Edvard enquired not to be nosy but to be friendly and hopefully easy to talk to even though he wasn’t a Hufflepuff professor.

Professor Roslund seemed surprised by his request to say the least. Only why? A little taken aback by his hesitance and question, Lewis glanced down at his hands in his lap for a moment. "Well, I...need to send somebody a letter, Sir, and I don't have my own owl you see." And who else was he supposed to get an owl from?
He felt like in Lewis he saw a younger version of himself, silent but thoughtful. Edvard had heard that transfers from other schools weren’t uncommon so he wasn’t surprised when Lewis told him that he had just started attending the school. "Ah owl year.." he said remembering the stressing year all too well. "I hope you make yourself a revision schedule, but don’t forget to have fun and hang out with friends, they are important."
Professor Roslund took a seat in his chair as Lewis revealed that he needed the owl to send someone a letter. Deciding to not pry since he was confident that Lewis would confide in him if he needed his help he simply said"You have my permission to use Oscar. Just give him an extra pellet or two and he’ll help you out. The owlery also houses school owls which anyone can use if you need to send another letter and don't want to bother me which i don't mind if you do by the way." He supplied the information to the fifth year thinking that he might not always want to go to a professor to get help with sending a letter.

Hehe, she couldn't wait to tell Vashti. "Thank you." This was pure sincere coming out as a whisper.
Why did she enjoy it? Ha! Simple. "Well, school doesn't teach us about werewolves that much. You have to buy an expensive book in order to know more about the matter. I find it really intriguing, the moon cycle affecting werewolves in a monstrous way while it mildly affects others." And the little you told Louisa about something, the more she grew eager to know more. Werewolves weren't the brightest subject to teach youngsters, thus she craved more about them.
Well, well, well... was someone being a bit embarrassed? Despite the hat on the professor's head, Louisa detected the deepening color of his ears. She suppressed a laugh and only smiled, "Oh. Well that sounds fun." She would comment on his slight tan but she didn't want him to think she was being rude. Nope.
"I hope I didn't interrupt your personal time, sir." She concluded, hinting that her visit had done its purpose. She'd LOVE to stay and enjoy the company of Edvard, being mature and important now, but he had other business and things to tend to.
"No, not at all Louisa, it was nice talking to you. Come back anytime you want." Professor Roslund smiled at the fourth year before focusing his attention on the pressing letter to his sister. There were just so much one could do from a castle in Scotland. He couldn’t exactly up and leave just to sort out a mess which his sister was certainly old enough and grown up enough to fix herself. Taking his quill he scribbled in silence for several minutes totally absorbed by the issue at hand.

He was so engulfed in his letter that Professor Roslund didn’t at first hear the gentle knock on his door. It was getting late, but that didn’t stop students from wanting to see him. Writing his signature at the end of the letter he folded the parchment up gently as he called out "Come on in. It’s open!" waiting to see who was there to grace his office with their presence next he plucked a liquorice wand into his mouth.

Lewis groaned inwardly as Professor Roslund mentioned the upcoming OWLs. Yes, thank you, Dad, for having me transfer right before my OWLs. Thanks a lot."Yeah. I'll definitely do that." He replied, cleary referring to the revision schedule part of the professor's sentence. He didn't exactly have a lot of friends to 'hang out with' after all so.
Oscar? What an interesting name for an owl. Lewis smiled and nodded when he told him that he should just give his owl a few extra pellets afterwards. Of course he was going to do that. Hang on...WHAT?! This school had school owls?! Feeling extremely stupid now, Lewis couldn't keep himself from blushing a little, as he glanced down at the floor which all of a sudden looked REALLY INTERESTING! "Oh. I'm sorry to have bothered you, then, Professor. I didn't know about that." He apologized quietly, wishing he could just disappear right now. How embarrassing.

Gideon made his way up to the astronomy tower between classes with a mission. A mission he had had for a few weeks but had been dwelling on whether or not to do. Sure he had been up there many times before for both lessons, a free time with thoughts and his own stargazing but he was curious on one thing...well a number of things and had decided to take it up with Professor Roslund now that he wasn't so nervous around the professors. So it was for that reason that he approached the man's office door, giving it a polite knock or two to see if he was in.

Looking up at Lewis he said meaning every word. "You were not bothering me at all on the contrary you did the right thing coming to a professor to get help with your problem. Don't beat yourself up about it Lewis. You can bother me any time you want, and about anything." Professor Roslund reassured the young boy. It would do him no good to dwell over things which he couldn't know beforehand.

Making the last box disappear with a silent flick of his wand Edvard heard a polite knock or two on his office door. Scanning the room for dust and forgotten belongings, finding none he strolled over to the door. Opening it he found himself face to face with Gideon Gert a lion house member. "Hi, did you wish to see me? Come in, come in. I was just about to brew myself some hot chocolate, would you like some?"
Professor Roslund called as he headed back in to put his cauldron on the fire. He expected Gideon to come in and close the door after him. The Astronomy Tower got awfully chilly in the evenings.
Choking on the candy as there was a second knock on the door Professor Roslund coughed for a good few moments before he hoarsely called out. "Come in, it’s Open!" wiping his eyes with a napkin he threw the remains of the liquorice wand in his trash remembering that they usually made him cough.
Tayla jumped slightly when she heard Professor Roslund's voice. Good thing she was still behind the closed door and he didn't see her startled reaction.
"Hello Professor," Tayla greeted politely as she opened the door and entered the office. She immediately liked how it looked. There were big comfy chairs, bookshelves, and interesting looking instruments. She realized there was a short silence while she admired the room and quickly cleared her throat and spoke. "Sorry for bothering you, Professor Roslund. I'm Tayla Barnhill. Third year, Gryffindor. I'm not sure you know me but I know you're the Astronomy professor and..." Great. Stop rambling Tayla and get on with it! "Well anyway, I was wondering if I could get a note from you, allowing to come to the observatory at night? I want to start working on that star-gazing assignment. I love watching the stars and...following the constellations."
Tayla added the last sentence a little weakly, thinking she was talking too much. She gave the professor a small smile and waited for his answer.

Messer could do some happy dancing right there when Professor Roslund said that they'll do some star-gazing but that would be weird, right? He just grinned widely instead. But what did he mean with 'not in the traditional way'? Well, he guess he just need to find out later then.
He sat still and listed to the Professor story. Oh that sounds fun. Telescope as a present. "What's the first star you see with that telescope, sir?" he asked. Professor Roslund asked him about his Hogwarts experience? How nice of him. "I like it very much, sir. The castle is really huge." he said. "And yes I made some friends." Although some of the older students he was friend with always calling him cute and pinched his cheek that kinda irritated him. Maybe he should ask Professor Roslund how to handle those pinch-cheek-older-girls. "Sir, I have a question but its not related with Astronomy."

It would do him no good to dwell over things which he couldn't know beforehand.
Lewis closed his mouth with a snap when the professor held up his hand. No more talking, got it. Oh, yes, it probably actually HAD been on his acceptance letter. He just hadn't read that too carefully, still upset that he was here in the first place and all. Once he got back to the Common Room he was going to actually read it this time...he was going to learn it by heart if he had to.
When Professor Roslund was done talking and scolding him for apologizing, Lewis glanced back up again, even meeting his gaze for a moment. "Thank you, Professor." Then, seeing as he didn't need anything more right now, and REALLY wanted to get out of here he added softly, "Well, I'm going to take good care of your owl, Sir. And...thank you again." He had actually wanted to apologize again but something told him, Professor Roslund wouldn't have been too happy about that.
Should he just go? Or wait for the professor to dismiss him? Lewis just hovered on the spot, glancing at the door.
Tayla jumped slightly when she heard Professor Roslund's voice. Good thing she was still behind the closed door and he didn't see her startled reaction.

As the girl entered he was pleased to see that it was a Gryffindor for a change. So far his office had been filled with Hufflepuffs. Professor Roslund waited as she admired the room. When she stated her purpose his face cracked up into a big smile "Pleasure to meet you Tayla. You can of course get a permission pass to stay up and watch the stars and constellations in the observatory."
Opening a drawer he took up a note which he signed with his signature in blue ink. "Here you go dear. Now you can start your star-gazing assignment any night you want." He said as he handed the note over. "Just don’t stay up too late so you won’t be attentive in classes the next day." Professor Roslund advised the lion.

Turning to Lewis who looked like he was about to apologize again for the third time Professor Roslund said meaningfully "Maybe you should go and post your letter Lewis? Lewis was a good boy there was no doubt about he just needed to learn that apologizing once was usually enough.

Tayla smiled widely as she took the note from Professor Roslund. "He's so nice!" she thought and was excited for classes with him. "Thank you, Professor!" Tayla said. "I better get going then."
Tayla turned towards the door and walked a little slowly, to admire the rest of the room before she left. When she finally stepped out, she gave Professor Roslund a friendly wave and closed the door gently.
Sophie was excited to start stargazing and all of this fun stuff! As soon as she was told they needed permission to stay up late - which she loved doing, by the way - and do it, she went straight to Professor Roslund's office.
She knocked on the door twice and waited, looking around happily.

After administrating the detention with Professor Hadley he headed back up to his tower to catch up on some grading. As he reached the corridor outside his office Edvard saw a Hufflepuff standing outside it waiting for him probably. Flashing her a smile trying to hide the headache he was feeling he said "Good evening. How can I help you miss?" Taking up his keys Edvard unlocked his door and headed inside turning on the lights as he went. He expected the badger to follow him inside and close the door after her as he worked on re-starting a fire the old-fashioned muggle way.

Aye I did," he answered with a nod following the man into the office after taking his reentrance as permission to enter himself. "And aye I would like some."
He stood inside not about to sit without permission, taking a moment's pause before expressing the reason for his visit. "First I wanted to ask for yer permission for studying in the observatory after hours," he said knowing it had been given in the past, had himself receieved it from the previous professor. Though he hadn't asked the man before him last term for some reason he couldn't think of at the moment.
"I also wanted to ask about the main telescope," he added trying to think of just how to word his questions properly. "Would a student ever be given permission to use it...or at least be able to assist ye when ye do?" the Gryffindor asked hoping that he would get a positive answer to at least one of those posibilities. For while their student teelscopes both personal and available for use in the observatory served their purpose well, it would be quite exciting to see the lights and foundations of the universe from the perspective of the major fixture of the tower.

Oh, The Pole Star. "Yes. I have seen it. Once." Or twice. Messer nodded his head.
So he's not the only one who thought that the castle was huge. "You do?" He chuckled when the Professor said that he still get lost in the castle. "But you're not alone, Professor. I'm still trying to remember the way back to the Common room every now and then." He never really good with direction.
Umm. Okay here we go. "Well, Professor. I have a problem with girls. Older girls. They always attacking me..." he said. "They always pinching my cheek" And that hurts they also calling him cute. He's eleven years old for Merlin's sake so he certainly NOT cute! "I want to ask you how to handle those..those.."Creatures"girls. Since you're an older guy." Maybe Professor Roslund have the same unpleasant experience like him when he was young. "Should I start wearing a sign 'Do Not Pinch My Cheek' or something?" he asked.

2 permissions slips Professor Roslund had already signed in as many days to allow student’s to use the observatory or other school areas for their astronomy studies after hours. It was nice that they all were coming to him to get the proper slip before staying up until midnight and being found on a late night patrol by a professor or prefect.
Smiling at Sophie he proceeded to take out a permission slip from his drawer and sign it. Handing it to her he advised "Use the permission slip when you need. Just choose your stargazing well so that you won’t perform poorly in your other classes."
"You don’t need to perform a task to get slip dear. Just go and make some good stargazing observations and I will be proud." Professor Roslund said thoughtfully.

Professor Roslund was silent as he worked with his cauldron. When the chocolate gave off enough hot steam he poured the coca into two big cups. Going over to the comfy chairs with the cups in his hands he put them down on the coffee table beside him and gestured for Gideon to sit down in the chair opposite him and drink his coca while it was hot. "Sit down Gideon and drink up the coca before it gets cold."
Raising his own cup to his lips he sipped on the hot coca as he waited for Gideon to speak out of the beard as the saying went and tell him what was on his mind. The lion boy wasted no breath. Nodding Professor Roslund said "You have permission to use the observatory after hours. Do you want a note to say that you can too?" If so then he’d fix one up but after he had down all of the warm coca in his cup.
Gideon’s next question caught him a bit off guard since nobody had asked about it before. Scratching his head with a hand he said "The main telescope is available for any student or staffer to use just like the rest of the equipment in the observatory. The main telescope has got better focus and some other extra features that your student telescope doesn’t have but you operate it in the same way."
As a thought struck him his eyes widened in shock "I haven’t checked if it got damaged last year when the house elves went loose in there. Oh merlin, what if the telescope is in bad shape." Spaz!!! This was not good. How could Edvard forget something as important as to check its condition? Trying to calm down he drank some coca and took long breaths. It wouldn’t do to freak out when there was no evidence to say that it had been damaged.

Professor Roslund turned to Zhenya "That sounded like an eventful and fun summer. I’ll see you in class dear…Bye!" he called after the snake as she departed from his office to study. Turning to only remaining student in his office he wondered what Messer could have on his mind.

"You are familiar with the fact that sailors navigate after the Pole star on dark nights?" Professor Roslund enquired the young badger. It was good to now and then check up on the knowledge of the student’s to be able to adjust his lesson plans accordingly.
Nodding he laughed "Yes, I’ve never had a good sense of direction might be related to my clumsiness." Scratching his chin thoughtfully he said"I’m sorry Hogwarts doesn’t have any maps. Otherwise you’d have it easier Messer and could easily find your common room. I hope the older students aren’t misleading you?"
Placing his hands in his lap Professor Roslund listened attentively but in silence as Messer layed out his problem with older girl’s in front of him. Knowing that laughing was not the best route to go he took a breath and then responded seriously "Have you tried telling any of the older girls how you feel about getting your cheeks pinched?" If not then that was a good place to start.
2 permissions slips Professor Roslund had already signed in as many days to allow student’s to use the observatory or other school areas for their astronomy studies after hours. Sophie heard his words and nodded, getting the permission slip her was handing to her. "Yes, sir, I will! Thank you!" she smiled and left his office, waving back at him.

"Yes, Professor. I'm aware." He nodded his head. "It always stayed in a fixed position all night, allowing the sailor to follow it. And I also read that it also help them to know their latitude. Is that true, Sir?" he asked.
Wow! It seem that they not only sharing a first name but they also had a bad sense in direction. Now he wonder does Edvard mean not good in direction? But his father never got lost. Oh well maybe he just hadn't caught his father lost somewhere. "Yes. Me too, Professor. I hope they have a map for the first year so we won't be lost." he sighed. And then his life would be so much easier with that map. "No, Sir. They're not." Or they haven't
"I have." Messer said. "When I told them that they were giggling and messing out my hair and and they call me CUTE." That was horrible. Very Horrible.

Alyssa didn't enter the Professor's office but remained outside and looked into the two boxes that contained the equipment that she would need to complete her Astronomy Homework. She picked up a sun dial from one box and a Nocturnal from the other. Then she turned around and left determined to start testing out both the equipment.

Minerva went up to Professor Roslund's office. She looked into the boxes that were left out and took the two time instruments she needed and placed them in her bag carefully. She then turn and walked away to head out to work on homework.

Zhenya made her way back up to the Astronomy tower to pick up the equipment for the homework assignment. By the time she got there, after running up most of the stairs and taking them two at a time, she was out of breath. Panting, she sat on the ground for a few moments to catch her breath. When she had recovered she stood back up and looked down in the boxes. They... well she had no idea how she would go. She thought she would fail at the assignment, but was going to forget those thoughts and go at it with confidence.
She reached down and got one of each, making sure she was holding onto them securely. She made her way back down the stairs of the Astronomy tower, through the ground level, and down to the dungeons to look at them.

Tenn clambered up the Astronomy tower to Professor Roslund's office. The instruments they are to use for their homeworks can be found outside his office. Couldn't it be more tiring? she thought upon reaching as she plopped beside the box. After a while since she had rested, she knelt beside the box and picked one of the instrument. She stared at it for a moment, "This is terrible," she said shaking her head as she had no idea how to work on it. She'd be needing guidance. Maybe she could ask Kurumi to help her out. She stood up clutching the astronomy thing on her hands and soon pocketing it as she went down the tower again.

Minerva walked up to the Astronomy Office and dropped the sundial and nocturnal dial back in the box where she had gotten it from. Once she placed them back in their spots she turned to head back to her common room.
