Moving Staircase
 

Laura had decided that she wanted to see if the staircase really moved and if they did, how could she tell when it was going to happen, she didn't want to get lost in this castle that probably went up as high as the moon, it was massive, she'd never actually seen a place so big before but well she would probably get used to it eventually but for now she would have to figure out some way of not getting lost and so she had ended up her at the staircase that just kept moving for no reason what so ever.

Laura nearly fainted when she heard someone speak, she hadn't seen the other girl come and surely she must have jumped 3ft in the air, well maybe not that high but it felt like it. "I think they are, I read somewhere that they did." Laura smiled at the other girl she was about her age. "if they aren't then we might be stuck here for awhile but I'm sure that won't be the case." Laura giggled. "Anyway I'm Laura Hope Hyde, but you can just call me Laura."

Oh. Anya scared the girl, didn't she? Poor thing. At least she didn't fall off the staircase, right? That would have been awful.

"Oh." she said looking around. "I suppose I should get used to it then? If things like this happen often." Of course... it would be hard to get used to the ground moving like this.

"Hello Laura. I'm Anya, Anya Phillips. It's a pleasure to meet you." Even if the situation wasn't quite as enjoyable.

"Are you a first year?" she asked. "I am." And she was a little bit desperate to meet someone else her age.

Laura smiled at Anya. "Yeah, I think I should get used to them too." She giggled before looking at the stairs to see where they were going. "There's just one slight problem, do you happen to know which floor we are on?" Laura was really confused now these stairs were like making a maze and it would be by accident if they actually got to the floor they wanted, that if they were heading for a floor.

Laura smiled at Anya. "Hi Anya nice to mee you too." She was happy when Anya said she was a first year. "Yeah I'm in my first year, I'm a Hufflepuff and I just decided I wanted to explore." She wasn't lost and she wanted Anya to know that even though now she probably was lost, it was hard keeping track on all the stairs.

Anya mentally counted. "I believe that," she said pointing to the floor below, "is the third floor." If she counted right. There were quite a few staircases between where she stared and now.

"You'd think the floors would be labeled or something." Or that they would have had an orientation and received maps. "I have no idea how I'll be able to find all of my lessons."

"I'm a Gryffindor." she replied. "I was on my way to get some food. It takes way too much energy to get from one place to another. I feel hungry much more than usual."

Laura smiled at Anya. "I would have thought so, but they must have thought that we would get used to it, as long as I don't stay on here for years I don't care." Laura giggled. "Want to be friends?" She might as well make a Gryffindor friend and it would be nice to have another friend, she was always wanting friends.

"I was going exploring but I'm hungry now, maybe I'll come and get something to eat." Laura laughed when she realised that if she had decided that before she wouldn't be lost since the Hufflepuff Common Room was near the Kitchens.

Anya giggled. "I'm sure it's just one of the many surprises this strange castle is hiding." she said. She looked around as if expecting another surprise any second.

"Would I ever!" she said happily. "You'd be the first nice girl I've met here!" she said. "The other one is an awful friend stealer." Not that she needed to worry too much, Adeline was terribly dull. Alec never liked dull.

"That would be fun. It's a good thing the staircases lead directly in front of the Great Hall. I wouldn't want to get lost while I'm hungry."

That would be the worst!

Laura smiled at Anya. "I guess your right." Laura laughed. "I wonder what else will be around here, there could be some fun stuff."

Laura was delighted when Anya said she wanted to be friends and Laura smiled. "I'm glad, I've only got a few friends outside of Hufflepuff and one of them is my sister." Laura looked at the stairs before turning back to Anya. "I bet there are loads of girls that are just as nice as me."

"I don't remember the way though." Laura sighed. "Just look at the all the stairs, they seem to be moving all the time." Laura wanted to shout were doomed, doomed I tell you but she decided against it, she didn't want to scare her new friend.

Katie was literally rushing down the stairs none stop just hoping the stair she picked was the right way to the library so Katie could go study. She wanted to learn as much as she could this year-

BAM!

Katie had banged into a younger boy student "ow..." She said to herself rubbing her head, she was about to apologize as she felt the stairs starting to move, "Quick!" She said grabbing his hand and pulling him along as she went down to the un-moving platforms, as soon as she got there and so did the boy she let go of his hand, "Sorry about that, a-are you alright?" Katie said, she hoped she hadn't hurt him.

He looked up at her and said''I'm right.''He said smiing and rubbed his head.''Are you fine.''He asked politely.She hadn't hurt him.Just a little knock.

"I think I'm okay" Katie laughed looking at her.. HAPPY, no one hurt, everything was well, excellent, "Katelyn Star by the way, pleasure" Katie said extending her hand for the younger boy, with a sweet smile on her face.

Anya smirked. "Oh! I bet there is. My older brother says there's a way to sneak off into the kitchens and there's also a secret room that will turn into whatever you want it to be. He didn't tell me where either was though... something about half the fun is figuring it out for yourself."

"Oh. You're sister is here? That must be fun." she said with a smile. It would have been fun if she and Carter were here at the same time... but, he graduated the year before. "I hope so. It would be awful it there were just a lot of not nice people."

She shrugged. "My plan was just to keep going down. When I hit the dungeons I've gone to far." she said with a little giggle.

Seemed like a pretty fail-proof plan to her.

''Great Then.''Ryan said smiling.''Ryan Rusconi Pleasure as well.''He said shaking her hand and smiling.

"Pleasure Ryan" Katie smiled, then letting go of his hand, "So... you are sure your not hurt?" Katie asked again, she always worried she had hurt the person when she bangs into someone, and that happened a lot to her, she should really look where she is going.

''Pleasure as well.''He said smiling.''I'm positively not hurt.''Ryan said laughing.''Are you sure your not hurt.''

"I'm fine" Katie laughed with the boy, "So by the looks your a ...second year?" Katie guessed, she was good at guessing, so surely she had guessed right right? OF COURSE!

''Thats good then.''Ryan said grinning.''Yup,I am,Gryffindor.''He said proudly smilinng.''Sixth Year are you.''He asked.

Katie giggled, "Close, I'm fifth, slytherin" Katie nodded, did she really look that old? She didn't care though, she was quite tall and that so she sometimes did look as a sixth year.... unless she was being immature, which happened a lot when she was with great friends.

''My Bad.''Ryan said looking totally embarassed.''So are you Pure-Blood or what.''He asked politely.

"Nah don't worry" Katie laughed giving him a playful nudge, she didn't mind . "I'm a half-blood, my mums a witch, and my dads a muggle, and you?" Katie nodded, she wasn't going to point out that her father was dead though.

''Exactly the same except,Well there divorced and my mother's dead.''He explained.Guess he just had to face the facts.
