An area near the Duck Pond has been cleared and the ground temporarily smoothed to make way for the Shuffle Board competition. Every student who wants to try their skills at this game will select a broom-shaped paddle in which they will get three chances to push weighted pucks down the court and into the scoring area.
At the far end of the smoothed rectangular board is a triangular scoring area in which your objective is to push the disks within the zone. The zone is divided up into four numbered sub-zones, the numbers representing point values. If the disk lands completely within the smallest triangular tip, without touching any borders of the triangle, it's worth ten points. Completely within the second tier of the triangle - trapezoidal shaped - scores you eight points. Within the third tier - also trapazoidal - seven points. However, if it lands in the large, rearmost and also trapezoidal section, it will be minus ten points. For the game purposes, each student will get three chances and whichever player scores the most points, wins.
SPOILER!!: Prizes
-30 - 0 points: ONE OF replica Albus Dumbledore beard, replica Gran Longbottom hat (squawks) 0 - 10 points: ONE OF Exploding Snap Cards, Trick Wand 10 - 20 points: ONE OF Six pack of Butterbeer, Dragon hide gloves 20 - 30 points: ONE OF Gift basket of Sugarplums treats, Honeydukes giftcard
EVERYONE receives ONE commemorative token for participating.
The Rules:
Each student gets 3 pucks, therefore 3 attempts at gaining the most points.
You must RP pushing the pucks down the court with your broom-shaped paddle.
You won't ALL get into the small triangular section, every time.
You will need to RP a minimum of 3 quality posts at pushing all of your weighted pucks into the scoring area. By "quality" we mean at least one good sized paragraph, 4 lines of text, and a bit of effort put into the posts.
Staff members will be keeping score and the results will be announced at the end.

Alyssa decided that she would try this just for fun. It was like muggle shuffleboard that she had played back home. So she grabbed one of the broom shaped paddles and studied the court and the scoring area at the other end from where she was standing. She tilted her head to study the various angles and the locations of the four scoring zones. She made it a point to make sure that she didn't push her puck too hard because she didn't want it to end up at the rearend and largest zone because she would not gain any points but in fact lose points.
Picking up the first puck, Alyssa rubbed the base of the puck against her jeans to clean it of any dirt that would cause it to move away from the direction she wanted it to go. She then placed the puck behind the line in front of her, and placed the broom shaped paddle behind it. She bent down to study the angle of where she would be pushing the puck before she straightened up.
Keeping an eye on the zone she was targetting for, Alyssa stood behind the the broom shaped and pushes the puck with it giving just enough force for it to slide across the board and entire the scoring zone. "Come on, come on you can do it," she yelled out to the puck as she saw it entering the smallest triagular zone. As she saw it enter, she yelled, "Stop, stop, stop."
On cue, the puck slid to a stop just inside the center of the smallest triangle. Now all she had to hope was that the puck wasn't touching the sides of the triangle. She looked to the judges to see what they had determined. While she waited she got ready to position her second puck.

There was a Shuffleboard? As in? That was pretty awesome! Well..seriously, almost all the games in the Fandango was all but fun and exciting.
Walking over to the Duck Pond which she hadn't yet seen until now, Beezus of course saw the ducks. They were cute, per se! And looked adorable too! She made it a mental note to return there and play with them later, after she was done with joining ALL the games.
Beezus read the rules and boy, was it easy. Easy to read that is but definitely not easy to do. She would need concentration on this one, but she'd make sure she'd have fun.
Picking up a broom-shaped paddle, Beezus immediately headed to the court. Time to do some hitting! After taking a deep breath, the young Ravenclaw shifted, straightened her grip on the paddle and hit the first puck!
BLAM!! and ZOOM!
The puck zoned out into the court while Beezus hoped that it would settle in the triangular tip but as she ran towards it, it stopped within the second tier of the triangle.. Beezus snorted but grinned afterwards. She'll do better next time.

Hmm... Magical Shuffleboard? She had never even played Muggle shuffleboard. But it looked like a lot of fun. Zhenya walked up to the game and obtained a broom-shaped paddle. It felt comfortable in her hands. Of course she wanted her puck to land in the tip of the triangle - most points! She just wanted to have fun though... No, she was lying to herself! She wanted points.
She lined up her puck as best as she could and lightly swung her paddle. It moved at a good pace and landed in the second tier area - the trapezoidal shaped area. She looked, and it was completely within the borders. That was good! So far, so good. She was very pleased with herself, and she went back to the start to have her second go.

Second try.
Beezus inhaled dramatically. She was losing her lucky touch right now and she knew it was because she was getting tired. After joining almost all the other games, she was too exhausted. Especially the Magical Shootout Dueling, it drained the magic out of her.
With a small sigh, the young eaglet grasp the puddle, tried to calculate the necessary distance and the approxiamate effort she should exert in order to let the puck land on the tipmost triangle in the court.
Leaving all to good luck, she bit her lip and pushed the puck with the use of her puddle. Now, to hope that everything went according to plan.
Kendra walked around a while before spotting the shuffle board. Awesome! She strolled over to it and watched some others have a go with interest. Sure, she was awful at it. But it was real fun! And it wasn't as if she was going to loose anything if she was rubbish. Apart from her dignity of course.
Stepping up to the base of the triangle, marked out on the ground with something that looked a little like chalk, she picked up the paddle, weighing it in her small hands. Trying to guess how much she would have to hit it to get it in that small triangle at the top. As if playing golf, she shielded her eyes from the sun, gazing over her field of play.
'Let's do this.'
Kendra smiled to herself as she spoke. Swinging the broom back hard, she hit it with force. Too much force.
'Come on come on come on come on.' She repeated the words as she watched it zoom down the triangle, it had begun to slow when it reached the second section, but still had a good lot of momentum. It stopped when it reached the third, but, alas, there was still a good third over the edge, meaning it counted, just. She had, hopefully, won herself seven points. But she needed to remember next time not too put so much effort in, or it would definatley mean that she was in the -10 zone.

William strolled down the hill, his robes were latched tightly and he was also wearing a thick winter cloak. It was only October, but he had the immune system of a three-year-old and didn't want to take a chance of getting some kind of sickness. In his small hand, he clutched the notice he had received informing him of a "Founder's Fandango" event out on the grounds. He noticed a small group of people near the Duck Pond and headed in that direction. As he got closer, he cautiously approached the Shuffleboard court, tentative as to how to play this game. There were a few students nearby, pushing small discs with broom-shaped paddles into a triangle with numbers on it. He had never heard of this game before, let alone played it. He was about to turn around and head off to some other activity before he decided against leaving.
Turning around, he approached the court, picked up a paddle and three discs, and moved toward the playing spot. He placed a disc, which was kind of heavy, on the court and eyed the triangular score zone off in the distance. Lining up the puck with his paddle, he pushed with all his might, sliding the paddle against the ground and pushing the puck down the court. The puck slid askew; William kept his eyes closed. He opened his eyes after a few moments. The puck had landed in the middle trapezoid. That meant eight points for himself! Delighted, he moved out of the way for the others. Perhaps he wouldn't be rubbish at this game, like so many other things he was bad at.

Zhenya had her second puck, and she was trying to line it up. This time she was definitely going to get the smallest area - the tip of the triangle. She took quite a while lining it up, making sure it would get there. When she looked around, she noticed more people coming. That was good! Maybe when she went home for the summer she could talk her parents into going somewhere that did Shuffleboard.
Anyway... she needed to FOCUS on the current matter - her own puck! Tip of the triangle! She took a small swing and hit her puck. It slowly whizzed off and slowly made its way up the triangle until it finally settled on the area she had hoped it would - the tip of the triangle! She went to inspect and yes, indeed, it was nicely laying in the area.

SIGH. SIGH. And another sigh.
Beezus just sighed and sighed after another as she massage her temples. Why..she was feeling a bit too tired already. She needed rest, so to speak. But she still got one try left so she still stayed but after that, she would really head back to their Common Room and probably snuggle on their Dormitory.
Quite weakly, she held the puddle once more and without any more additional gestures, she raked it and pushed the puck into the court.
It hit a one side of the topmost triangle. Bummer.. "Oh well.." she said as she returned the puddle on its correct place. Better luck the next time around.

Now it was her turn to use her 2nd puck. Alyssa placed the puck on the ground and placed her broom shaped paddle behind it. She was now angling for either of the trapezoidal shaped triangles at the end of the board in front of her. She measured the distance by sight, bent down to see how she would angle her hit because she definitely want to accidentally hit her first puck that was already placed in the smallest scoring triangle on the board.
Taking a deep breath, Alyssa shook out her hands and rolled her shoulders before she stepped behind the paddle and pushed it using enough strength to get it across the board and into the scoring area. She saw the puck start to angle toward the right, which is what she intended it to do."Go, Go Go...stop stop stop," she yelled at it as it starting slowing down and finally landed on the second tier of the triangle. That should give her another 8 points as she looked at the judges for their decision.

It was her last puck, and she was aiming to get it in the top of the triangle again, but didn't think she would be able to, so she went to try and score it in the second tier area. She had done it before, maybe she could do it again! That would be great.
She got her paddle and lined it up, spending as much time as she needed on it. She swung the club lightly and the puck went off and landed in the middle of the second tier area, the trapezoidal shape area. She smiled to herself, and wanted to play again.

Alyssa got ready to hit her last puck. She was hoping to get her puck into the last trapezoidal shape on the 3rd tier. It would take a little manevering to get her puck into that tirangle without hitting of the other pucks already lying in their zones, but with a little concentration, Alyssa knew that she could do it. So placing her puck down on the ground, she swung her paddle hitting and as she saw it slide across the board, she closed her eyes because she didn't want to see where it landed. But after a couple of seconds, she couldn't resist the suspense any longer and looked. The puck looked like it was lying at the corner but still within the trapezoidal shape of the 3rd tier. Whether that counted as 7 points or not would be up to the judges. Alyssa smiled over at them as she placed the broom shaped paddle where she had originally picked it up from.

Shuffleboard. Kurumi had seen her grandparents play it whenever they went into town to buy groceries. It was always a full day out, but a day where she usually had spent her time with her nose in a book and her brothers blowing bubbles with bubble gum or with their noses from boredom. The only sort of stick pushing she ever did wasn't pushing at all - it was whacking and there were a lot of rigid guidelines to it. This...resembled sweeping the floor really.
Okay, so maybe that wasn't being entirely fair to the sport, but you were using something that looked like a birstleless broom. Picking up the tang, Kurumi pushed the puck, erm, biscuit, erm...whatever it was, idly back and forth to try and get a feel for how it felt on the surface. Merlin, it was like the object had had a Gripping Charm placed on it, because it wasn't exactly gliding smoothly across the ground. Tempted to cast Glisseo to make it run smoother, but that probably wasn't allowed. Keeping her wand in her pocket, Kurumi approached the starting point, Kurumi pushed the pseudo broom back and forth again, flexing her muscles a bit and eyed the triangular scoring zone. Nice and easy now...Rocking her shoulders back, Kurumi twisted her arms and turned her hips a bit, Kurumi pushed tang towards the puck and made contact. It glided across the ground, spinning ever so slightly as it came to a stop...somewhere.
Kurumi stood on her tip toes to try and see where it had stopped and could only be sure of two things: it hadn't landed in the minus ten zone, nor had it ended it the plus ten. It didn't seem to have landed clearly in any of trapezoidal shaped, but rather on the line of two of them or...was it the corner. Kurumi hadn't put too much force into it, so her best guess was that it was in the seven area.

Jez had never handled a sweeping broom before. True story. So it took a few practice sweeps to fully grasp what was expected of her as far as the paddle was concerned. At first, she tried to hold it with the broader end in her hands, but quickly worked out that it didn't work. Well, it hit the puck, but not unless she was really accurate. So she decided to put the broader end to the ground, which, as she realised when she looked around at the other students, was how it was supposed to be held. She blushed. Oops.
Jez took a deep breath and whacked the puck with the paddle. It sped across the triangle, seeming to gain speed, not slow down, and eventually stopping a good 10 metres away from the end of the triangle. Jez leant on the paddle, facepalming herself with the handle. Definitely a -10 points there. Shoot.

Hmm...She was going to have to put a little more umpth into things if she wanted to reach the top of the triangle. It seemed so far away from where she was though and the pushing movement was still awkward and uncomfortable to her. Placing her next puck down, Kurumi practice the sweeping motion off to the side a bit, making her movements more sharp and ending more suddenly. That should make the puck move a little quicker and go further. That was the plan at least. Kurumi stepped up to the puck again and set the broom-thing against it. Kurumi took one more peek up at the board and pulled her arm and shoulders back.
"Here it goes..."
Kurumi pushed forward with the broom and made a much harder contact with the wooden puck and launched forward. Unfortunately, Kurumi didn't really hit it in the center as intended, but a little to the right, causing it to spin like a spinning top and its path of trajectory was far from straight. Merlin, now she had done it. Just when Kurumi thought that it was going to spin completely off the grid, it came to a stop on the middle line, with the upper portion of the puck hanging over the line dividing the eight and ten zone. Did it have to be fully in the ten zone to count for ten? Probably, which meant she needed to use more force on her third attempt.

Vlimia thought that Magical Shuffleboard sounded fun, and at the same time quite confusing. As she wondered what made it magical, Vlim grabbed a broom and went to one of these 'shuffleboards'. Okay, so there were these big pucks that you had to whack across the board with a broom, and hope it gets in a tiny triangle? Seemed simple enough to her.
This was her first try. Vlimia nudged the puck pretty forcefully, and watched as it crept closer and closer to the little triangle. It slowed to a halt somewhere before the littlest triangle, and Vlim went to check the rules. How many points was that? It was the second tier, so she scored eight points. Not too bad for her first time. Now she knew she needed a bit more force if she wanted it to get into the littlest triangle.

Frowning a bit, Kurumi waited for her third and final attempt. She really wanted to make it into the ten point spot, but her arms and the required force needed to get there seemed to be having some serious miscommunications with each other. Holding her pseudo broom in her hands, Kurumi practiced a few more times before stepping up to the line again. She needed to hit it harder AND in the center of the biscuit this time. No spinning like crazy, that wasn't going to help her reach her goal.
Kurumi took a deep breath and pushed forward...but heard nothing. Oh Merlin! What had she done?! Kurumi looked down and saw...that she had missed it completely. No one had seen that, right? Of course not. Readjusting her position, Kurumi pushed forward HARD again and connected this time. She held her breath as the little wooden object went sailing across the ground...a little TOO fast. Her features turning slightly purple, Kurumi eyed the object as it came to a stop. It HAD made it into the topmost triangle, but Kurumi couldn't tell if it had gone too far or not. Some of it may have been sticking out of the top...did that still count? Did all of it have to be in the shape? Was any of it sticking out at all? Kurumi stood back and waited for the judges to make their final decision on the matter.

Scabior had been watching, just by the sidelines, with the prizes. Shuffleboard wasn't really an interesting activity but since it required almost no work on his part he loved it.
He quickly checked the time on his watch before holding out his arms and making his way in front of the board. Game was done! And they didn't need an announcement because he didn't want to make one.
Scabior cleared his throat. Before flicking his wand and levitating the prizes over in front of him. "So..come get your prizes."

See, Kurumi was convinced that Professor Scabior hated life and his bored tone in announcing the winners was even more proof of it. He probably needed to find himself a woman...like...Professor Schirmer. Kurumi was sure that he had been the one to send the letter to her in the middle of Charms class. The two seemed to know each other well, especially after what August had told her, so he had to know that it would upset her and push her buttons to disrupt her class in that way. Really, he should just admit it and then stop being so grumpy.
Still, a prize was a prize and Kurumi knew that her gift card would most likely be taken by Selina the moment she got back to the dorms. The basket of sweets she planned on sharing with all her lions later. "Thank you, professor," Kurumi said with a small bow as she reached out for her prizes.
