The Magical Creatures Sanctuary is an outdoor enclosure that looks like a park, full of green grass and random trees. It actually contains a variety of creatures scattered about, ones that don't mind being outdoors during the fall and spring. In the winter, most of these creatures will be brought into the Barnyard where students can continue looking after them.
If you're feeling useful, pick up a shovel from the shed at the back and scoop up animal poo! If you're feeling lonely, go visit with a puffskein or a kneazle or an abraxan, aethonan, or granian. If you're feeling sad, go sit by the brambles and whine to the augurey. Who knows, your skills around these animals might just result in your earning a few house points.
All animals within this enclosure are rated X, XX, or XXX. Please remember your character's skill level, year, and familiarity around animals when visiting the Sanctuary.

Yes, Kurumi was even MORE sure of her decision not to play Quidditch this term. With this woman in the Hospital Wing, Kurumi felt that she would only get worse and not better. Kurumi didn't move. Didn't blink. Didn't do anything but stand very VERY still. Maybe...it was like with bears, the whole staying very still and pretending to be dead thing would make it ignore you and leave you alone? Did that mean Kurumi needed to curl up in a ball? Hiding under a rock was probably a better idea really...
Kurumi had to bit her tongue, however. Staying out of her way implied that if she became infected with something, say the flu, that she would have to avoid the hospital wing and therefore the entire student body could get sick all because she was following orders like a good little house elf. Standing up for herself was only going to make matters worse, but thankfully she didn't have to wait too long.

Thank MERLIN Professor Williamson was here. She would just go stand a little closer to him now...use him as a barrier between herself and the Healer.
Kurumi rolled up her sleeves and knelt down beside the bucket, taking a peak in and seeing its contents. Yep, there were the tadpoles. Tiny little creatures that hadn't had the chance to turn into frogs and grow up... Why was it that one usually felt terrible for creatures like tadpoles being fed to another creature, but fish were sort of just glazed over? That didn't seem very fair.
Pushing these thoughts away, Kurumi reached into the bucket, scooped up some tadpoles, and tossed them in. "Professor Williamson, have you given him a name?"

WHAT?!
William was just going to leave Cece there with this... kid? This kid who thought it was perfectly fine to butt into a conversation two adults were having.
Fine.
Whatever.
Turning towards Krummy once William was gone Cece glared at her some more. Really, did she think a little bow was going to make things better here? Turning back towards the way William went she crossed her arms over her chest. For the sake of that kid over there he better be getting back real soon.
Sierra stood, frozen just outside the gate, her face lit up like a Christmas tree in the middle of October. Was she really hearing this?! Or was it all a dream?! Thank you, Merlin, for sending the perfect Healer to Hogwarts! Where had this woman been for the past THREE YEARS?!
Sierra would go in and officially met her, but...she still wasn't allowed in the Sanctuary. So here she stood, hanging out by the gate, waiting for Professor Williamson to come along.

What's this, little Miss Suck Up had nothing to say for herself? Cece was pretty sure that all she would have to do right now was yell 'BOO!' at the child and she would start crying. She would have done this too if William hadn't returned so quickly.
"Fishes? Really?" She asked looking over at William. What was he, five? Oh wait, maybe he thought he had to talk like that so the child standing there would understand him. "I think I'll pass on that one." She didn't want to end up smelling like fish.
Oh Please... does that girl honestly think she's any safer putting Professor Williamson between herself and Cece?
NOT!
Walking over to the other side of Krummy Kurumi, Cece stood there for a moment watching her toss the minnows in. Hmm, maybe Cece should help out. Reaching into the bucket she grabbed out a small handful of the slimy little critters. Not holding onto them very well, and the fact that they were slippery, one of them accidentally on purpose jumped out of her hand as she stood up and landed right on Kurumi's head. "Oops, slippery little suckers."
And then her attention was drawn away by someone near the entrance.
SPOILER!!: Little Snakette

William quickly became absorbed in observing and recording the behaviors of the lobalug as it reacted to various food sources. He only looked up from his note taking with a furled browl when Kurumi mentioned something to him.
"A name?" He blinked a few times at the mere idea of a name but smiled. "Sure, you can come up with a name for him. I mean, I sure haven't given it any thought."

Minerva finally got down to the sanctuary. She had been meaning to for awhile, but classes had her so busy. She looked at the list of things that needed to be done and then looked around. Well I guess I could do that. She thought to herself. Then she turned around and looked for the tool she needed for the job. "Oh there it is" she said to herself and walked over to where the shovel had been sitting. Minerva then went to the first group of animals and looked around. This was going to be a messy job, but someone had to do it. Minerva started scooping up the poop.

What...was Sierra looking as pleased as a peach about? Kurumi only glanced momentarily at the younger snake, but it was enough to frighten Kurumi.
Wait...speaking of peaches...Kurumi had been craving making some peach cobbler recently now that the weather was getting cooler. Maybe she would head to the kitchens after she did some work here and make some.
Paying Sierra no more mind, Kurumi returned to tossing little fish and tadpoles into the pond.

Kurumi waited a bit as the lobalug nibbled on some tadpoles and devoured others. A name...hmm...she would need to observe him a bit more in order to figure that one out. Names were very complicated things and not something you handed out without giving it careful thought. "Professor Williamson, do you know if it is a boy or a girl?" she asked, peeking up for a moment. Although, there was a better question to be asked really. "Or, erm, how do you tell? Is there a slight variation on coloring or size?" Because, you know, giving the lobalug a female name when it was really a male would be very embarrassing for it.
Turning her attention back to the pond, Kurumi eyed the lobalug some more, waiting for it to finish swallowing a minnow before tossing more in when...there was something wet and...bouncing? on top of her head. Slowly, Kurumi reached up and tried to feel whatever it was that had found its way on top of her head.
Hat? She looked towards Professor Williamson feeling utterly confused why he was complimenting her on a hat when she hadn't been wearing one.

Kurumi had found it just about the time that the Healer had said something about something being slippery. Kurumi removed the fish from on top of her head, its body wiggling and thrashing about wildly. "Oops," she giggled as the the minnow slipped out of her hand and into the pond for the lobalug. "That one seemed especially eager to become lunch."
Sushi anyone? The minnow would make a much better sushi plate than a hat for her anyway.

Alyssa entered the Sanctuary and headed for the trees where she found the Jobberknoll feathers the other day. She had promised that she would return to feed them and maybe while she was there, she could talk with them too. She first went to the food bin and got a pail of insects for them to feed on. Then picking up the pail, she walked over to the trees and poured the dead insects onto the ground right beneath where she suspected they were hiding out. Then Alyssa sat on the grass and waited to see whether she could spot any movement.
After a while she thought she spotted some movement in the trees and a flash of speckled blue feathers, but didn't hear a sound at all and that was to be expected. She had read that Jobberknolls never made any noise or sounds unless they were about to die. Only then would they let out a long scream consisting of every sound they had ever heard. Alyssa had no wish to hear any screams today. So she just sat there under the tree and talked to them.
"Hi there, my name is Alyssa and I come from way across the ocean from a place called America. My Dad and my brothers and sisters live over there, while I'm studying over here. My Mom works here too, just to keep be nearer to me, but I know that she misses my Dad alot. Do you have family you miss too? I bet you must have family living in other parts of Europe. Say do any of you have family living in America too?"Alyssa suddenly realized that the Jobberknolls may actually have something in common with her after all.
"I bet you must have family living in America. Do you get to visit them? Can you fly that far?"Alyssa asked as she continued to talk with them. She talked for what seemed like hours but she knew that it was only a couple of minutes. None of them had come down to eat since she had been sitting under the tree, and she figured that they wouldn't, as long as she was there. So Alyssa decided to leave just so they would come down to eat. She stood up, brushed off the grass from her jeans and said,"Well it has been nice talking with all of you. Don't forget to come and eat now. You don't want the other animals to eat them up before you all get a chance to."
As Alyssa prepared to walk away, she noticed that there were more Jobberknoll feathers lying on the ground. So Alyssa picked them up and placed them in her bag. Since she had already given some to Professor Lafay, she figured that she would ask Professor Williamson whether he had any need for them. So before making her way to Professor Williamson's hut, Alyssa waved goodbye one more time to the Jobberknolls before she headed out of the Sanctuary.

While Arya didn't know who she wanted to play with first, it seemed a certain creature was determined to be first on her list. The prefect felt the soft nudge to her satchel as it shifted against her but saw absolutely nothing. Hehe. She knew the thestral would find her, and the treats she's brought for him.
Or her. She couldn't see.
"Hold on, I'll get it out for you." Her legs locked around the fencing when she was nudged again, and she opened her satchel to dig around and pull out wrapped raw meat that she'd gotten from the kind kitchen elves.
It was difficult for her to unwrap the meat without falling over all while keeping it from the thestral, but she got some bits unwrapped. Palm open, she held out some meat for the invisible horse to eat as she used her other hand to feel around for, and stroke his mane with a wide grin and bright eyes.

Ella entered the sanctuary with wide eyes, eager to meet and help care for the various creatures that lived here. She was quite interested in the Augurey because she had read they were very shy and could even predict when it was going to rain. That was a pretty spectacular skill because all the weather forecasters Ella had seen at home were usually wrong.
She set off in search of the tear-shaped nest, whistling as she walked along.
Nate walked along trying to find some salamanders. He brought his notebook along with him so he could take notes about them. He also wanted to build a fire for them. He started to stroll along the path whistling. He was hopeing he would find one soon his feet were starting to hurt.

Alyssa entered the sanctuary intending to clean up after the creatures today when she saw that Minnie was already doing it. But Alyssa thought that since it was a big place, they could both work together and not really get in each others way. One thing for sure there wasn't a shortage of poop to clean up.
"Hi Minnie, I hope you don't mind if I help clean up today too? I can see that no many of the students in getting their hands that way. I'm glad to see that you're not one of them. I'll try not to get in your way." Alyssa smiled over at Minnie.
After Nate was walking for quite a while he finally found a place to start the fire for the salamanders. He started to make the fire. Instead of using magic he decided to use the muggle way. By lighting a match. He took one out and started to do what the muggles did.

Ella finally found the tear-shaped nest at the edge of the sanctuary. She had been walking for a while and took a seat on the grass, looking curiously up at the nest. She had read the list of things for students to do and one of the options was to: Cheer up the augurey. Well, Ella was pretty great at cheering people up so she thought she'd take a stab at it. She deciding singing was always a good way to cheer someone up, especially when the singer was quite ridiculous and not at all talented. Thinking of the perfect song for the occasion, Ella smiled and began to sing.
Here's a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
Don't worry be happy
Every life we have some trouble
When you worry you make it double
Don't worry be happy
Don't worry be happy now

Alyssa proceeded to put on her gloves before going over to the tool shed and removing a shovel, and a wheelbarrow. She put the shovel into the wheelbarrow and rolled it over where Minerva was working and started scooping up the poop. She worked silently because she noticed that Minerva was diligently working and she didn't want to bother her too much.
So Alyssa scooped up the poop and emptied in the wheelbarrow before walking over to another patch. She couldn't resist asking Minerva,"Wow! these creatures do makes lots of them. I wonder what the Professor does with the pile that we dump all this later on."

Minerva smiled at Alyssa. "Hey Alyssa, no I don't mind to get my hands dirty I guess." She giggled a bit. "Sure I would love the help." she kept scooping the poop watching for the animals. Then Alyssa spoke again. "Well the vegetable garden probably can use it for fertilizer like the muggles do, if they do it that way. It would be a good way to use it I guess." Minerva came to another mound and scooped it up. "Well isn't this just a stinky job."
He finally got the fire started. He starting saying "Salamanders I have a fire for you. Here salamanders." He saw a salamander crawl towards him. "Whoa! I better write down some notes." Nate starting writing in his notebook what the salamander looked like. He did a quick scetch of what it looked like. He wrote down it's qualities.

Sierra glanced up at the woman she thought was the newest Healer. She didn't have to stay out here? Oh, yes she did. She was...likely banned from here, it seemed. She lifted her right hand and tapped her index finger against the list of students with permissions.
...and then--she was asking WWW if he minded if another student HELPED?! What did she look like, a house elf? Hollingberry the Hero was here, too, which meant this was a 'No Sierra Zone' at the moment. Right. She didn't choose to associate herself with such.
The Healer seemed like someone Sierra could get along with, though, so as soon as she was allowed inside, Sierra decided she would strike up a conversation with the woman. After all, she'd blasted Hollingberry right to the girl's face!

Really, WWW?!
She could have just walked on in minutes ago, without even asking, and the man would have never known the difference. She could have just given him one of the names on the door and been done with it. On second thought, though, what if she ended up putting in a fair amount of work and some other slob got all the credit?!
"Greingoth," she finally said. She opened the gate and walked in, joining the group just in time to hear an explanation of what they were doing. "Charming," she said. Who cared what a lobalug liked to eat?! Just throw the blasted creature in a potion and be done with it. That's all they were good for anyway, right?
"So I...noticed my name wasn't listed on the students allowed inside?" she half-stated, half-asked. She was trying to be serious, but when he was going on about hats [What WAS Hollingberry wearing?!], it was sort of hard to concentrate on the task at hand.

Just then, a flash of bright orange rushed by her and... scattered her pastels everywhere. Sighing, she picked them up and put them back in the box. Just then, a shrill sound nearly burst her eardrums. Oh, Merlin. It was Beezus.
Shrugging she leaned against the tree and began the early works of drawing Beezus with the Kneazle in her arms. Bright orange, vermilion, cobalt blue, black. It was just rough, but the shapes of Beezus and the fluffy thing Kneazle in her arms were starting to become developed.
Teach her to draw? That was such a good idea. But she knew how to draw. The correct thing to say was she needed to teach her how to draw animals. Yep! Because animals were very complicated to sketch out, the hind legs and the ears, not to mention the fur and the whiskers. Yet..she couldn't possibly ask Elise to teach her how to draw at that moment could she? She was holding and snuggling a kneazle at the current time and between petting a fluffy animal and drawing it, she was going to prefer the cuddling. Beezus beamed at her fellow eagle's direction. "Ermm..maybe later?" she suggested.
Oh, such a cute little kneazle. No, it wasn't little. But still, it was cute and adorable. She just couldn't help but scratch its neck!

Elise smiled and finished off her sketch, shading in the oranges and reds. Nodding in Beezus' general direction, she smiled. "Later, sure!" Putting her pastels back in their box, she flipped the book closed and placed it in her bag. Enough drawing, she was being surrounded by adorable! creatures and hadn't cuddled any of them yet.
Standing up, she pivoted to see an aethonan flare its nostrils slightly. Walking over to it, she reached out her hand to pat its muzzle. "Hi there," she smiled, locking eyes with the winged horse. It was chestnut, with darker sienna shadows and El wanted more than anything to draw it but held back. It was too beautiful for her to draw properly anyway.
Could they ride them? She wanted to ask the Professor, but was a little too mesmerized to step away.
Nate stopped writing down notes and put out his fire. He got up and walked passed the pond. He notcied the professor, a gryffyndor, and was that the healer?!?! Nate saw the gryffyndor feeding something. Then he noticed that it was a lobalug.Nate never saw one before so he walked over. He stood there in shock and awe at the amazing creature. He opened his notebook to a different page and started to scetch it. After that he started to take notes about it.

Minerva picked up the last of the poop that she could find and turned back to Alyssa. "Hey Alyssa I think that's it for the day. I think I'm going to head back up to the castle and clean up." she was tired from all the work and knew she smelled bad. Minerva made sure to put all the tools she was using away and then headed out of the sanctuary.
