Movie 1: The Lion King
Show Dates: Friday, January 6-Thursday, January 12
Storyline:
"Tricked into thinking he killed his father, a guilt ridden lion cub flees into exile and abandons his identity as the future King."
Synopsis/Summary:
The Lion King takes place in the Pride Lands of Africa, where a lion rules over the other animals as king. As dawn breaks, all the animals of the Pride Lands are summoned to Pride Rock, the home of the pride of lions. Rafiki (Robert Guillaume), a mandrill, walks through the herd and climbs the face of Pride Rock to greet his friend, King Mufasa (James Earl Jones). Mufasa leads Rafiki to his mate Sarabi (Madge Sinclair) who is holding their newborn cub. Rafiki anoints the cub with fruit juices before presenting him to the gathered animals. The animals cheer and then bow to the new future king.
Meanwhile, Scar (Jeremy Irons), the younger brother of Mufasa, is sulking by himself behind Pride Rock. He is envious of his brother's position as king and is disgruntled at the fact that he will never be king now that Mufasa has an heir. Mufasa and his majordomo, a hornbill named Zazu (Rowan Atkinson), confront Scar on why he wasn't present at the ceremony that morning. Scar shrugs it off, claiming he had forgotten, and scoffs his new responsibility to show respect to the future king before wandering off.
As monsoon storms drench the Pride Lands, Rafiki is seen in his tree home, a large baobab, adding details to his newest piece of wall art. He chuckles lightly as he finishes, reciting the new cub's name, Simba (Jonathan Taylor Thomas).
Now a budding youth, Simba rises early one morning and pesters his father to get up and show him the lands he's destined to rule over. Mufasa illustrates from the top of Pride Rock that everything the light touches is their kingdom, except for a place on the horizon that is covered in shadow. Mufasa tells Simba he's forbidden from ever going there. Out in the plains, Mufasa tells Simba that there is a balance to all life which eventually comes full circle; the Circle of Life. When Zazu appears with a morning report, Mufasa takes the opportunity to give Simba a pouncing lesson which goes successfully, much to Zazu's dismay. As Simba gets ready to try again, Zazu suddenly exclaims that a group of hyenas has been seen in the Pride Lands. Mufasa rushes off to deal with it while Zazu takes Simba home.
Simba returns to Pride Rock where his Uncle Scar is lurking about. Simba brags about his fate to be king to which Scar reacts without the slightest bit of enthusiasm. Casually, and goading Simba's excitement, Scar asks if Mufasa showed him the shadow place on their morning walk. When Simba replies no, Scar adds that it is a dangerous place where only the bravest lions venture. Simba perks up, saying he's brave, and begs his uncle to tell him what's there. Scar feigns an accidental slip of the tongue by revealing that it's an elephant graveyard but praises Simba's cleverness. He asks that Simba never explore the place, but as Simba reassures him and leaves, Scar smiles to himself knowing full well that Simba's curiosity will get the better of him.
Simba meets up with his friend Nala (Niketa Calame) who is being bathed by her mother, Sarafina Zoe Leader. He tells her about a cool place hes found, lying to Sarabi that its around the water hole. Sarabi gives them permission to go as long as Zazu accompanies them. Along the way, Simba and Nala devise a plan together to get rid of Zazu, which works. They then run off, Nala showing off her skills as an expert pinner, before finding themselves in the elephant graveyard. Suddenly, Zazu reappears and demands that they leave. Simba shows off his bravery by laughing in front of a large skull. Laughter echoes from within and three hyenas emerge, surrounding the cubs. Shenzi (Whoopi Goldberg), Banzai (Cheech Marin), and Ed (Jim Cummings) deliberate what's to be done with the cubs, more specifically, how to eat them. The cubs and Zazu escape for a moment, but Zazu is pulled back and stuffed into a boiler which shoots him into the air. The hyenas eventually corner the cubs in an alcove and Simba tries to roar. The hyenas laugh and tell him to try again. A real roar is let out as Mufasa appears and attacks the hyenas before they run off. Zazu reappears by Mufasas side and Simba tries to say something but Mufasa furiously reprimands him for being deliberately disobedient and leads them towards home.
Back in the Pride Lands, Mufasa tells Zazu to take Nala home while he teaches Simba a lesson. Fearful and meek, Simba walks up to his father, noticing that his fathers paw print is much bigger than his own. He apologizes for disobeying but says he only wanted to be brave like Mufasa. Mufasa tells Simba hes only brave when he has to be. As they reconcile, Mufasa tells Simba that all the stars in the night sky are the spirits of kings past and that they will always be there to guide him, as will he.
Back in the graveyard, the hyenas lick their wounds and quarrel with each other. Their fights are broken up by Scar who is greeted as a friend. Irritated that the hyenas couldnt dispose of the cubs, he proposes a plan that would eliminate both Simba and Mufasa from the throne.
The next day, Scar escorts Simba through a gorge and puts him near a rock shaded by a sapling, telling him that Mufasa is planning a surprise for him. Scar instructs Simba to stay put while he fetches Mufasa and suggests that he practice his roar while hes away. Just above the gorge, the three hyenas lie in wait in front of a massive herd of wildebeest. Scar appears above them, signaling them. As Simba waits, scowling over his little roar, a chameleon climbs down from the tree. Simba practices roaring at it, finally letting off one loud enough to scare the chameleon and echo off all sides of the gorge. But the ground starts shaking and Simba looks up to see the herd of wildebeest charging down the gorge straight for him. He runs away, the wildebeest gaining, while Scar warns Mufasa nearby that there is a stampede in the gorge and Simba is down there. Simba manages to grab hold of a broken tree, elevating himself above the wildebeests horns while Mufasa climbs down and runs alongside the animals. He manages to grab Simba in his mouth and carries him to safety, but is pulled back by the charging animals. After a tense moment, Simba watches his father leap onto the side of the gorge, digging his claws into the dirt and struggling up the hillside. As Mufasa nears the top, he sees Scar standing over him. He pleads for help, but Scar digs his claws into his paws and mocks him before pushing him off. Simba watches helplessly as Mufasa falls onto the stampeding herd.
As the dust settles, Simba runs down to look for his father. He discovers him beneath a broken tree, dead. As he mourns his loss, Scar appears and blames Simba for what happened. Simba, thinking he had started the stampede that killed his father, follows his uncles advice when Scar tells him to run away and never return. Simba runs off as Scar instructs his hyenas to kill him. The three hyenas chase Simba to the edge of an incline where he tumbles into a sea of brambles. Small enough to avoid the sharp spikes, Simba runs through them as the hyenas barely manage to stop near the base. Unlucky Banzai is shoved into the brambles and emerges howling, stuck with thorns. The hyenas watch as Simba runs into the distant desert and decide that he will most likely die, shouting to him that if he ever comes back they will kill him.
Scar returns to Pride Rock to announce that both Simba and Mufasa have perished in the stampede and assumes the role as king. The lionesses look on in fear as a horde of hyenas arrives to live alongside Scar at Pride Rock. Rafiki watches sullenly from a distance and smears the image he had once created of Simba.
In the desert, Simba has collapsed under the heat and a group of vultures descends on him. Suddenly, a meerkat and a warthog charge into them, bucking and kicking them away as part of their favorite game; bowling for buzzards. The warthog, Pumbaa (Ernie Sabella), then discovers Simba and brings him to the attention of his meerkat companion, Timon (Nathan Lane). Timon is initially afraid of the young lion but Pumbaa asserts that hes still little and will grow up to be on their side instead of eating them. Timon scoffs at the idea, before suggesting the very same thing as his own. Pumbaa picks Simba up and carries him into the shade where hes revived. Simba thanks them for their help before walking away. Timon and Pumbaa take pity on him and tell him that, whatever happened to him, he has to put his past behind him, citing their motto Hakuna Matata; no worries. They then invite Simba to stay with them as a fellow outcast in their jungle paradise and teach him to eat bugs rather than meat. Simba begins to cheer up and eventually grows into a healthy, carefree adult (Matthew Broderick).
Meanwhile, the Pride Lands have been reduced to a wasteland under Scars rule. Zazu is confined to a bone cage singing while Scar lazily lies about chewing on bones. Zazu mutters under his breath that he never had to do this under Mufasa. Scar reels on the name, citing that the law is to never mention Mufasas name. Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed appear, complaining that food and water have become scarce and that the lionesses refuse to hunt. Scar suggests they eat Zazu as Banzai lets slip Mufasas name before he corrects himself under Scars glare. Scar then dismisses them.
Back in the jungle, Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa lie down together after a meal of bugs to look up at the night sky. Pumbaa asks what the sparkling lights in the sky are to which Timon replies that theyre fireflies that got stuck in the big, bluish-black thing. Pumbaa says hed always thought they were burning balls of gas billions of miles away, a theory which Timon debunks due to Pumbaas flatulent nature. They ask Simba what he thinks. Answering only to their begging, he says he was once told that the lights are great kings of the past watching over them. Timon starts cracking up over the thought of royal dead guys watching them, but Simba wanders off, saddened over the memory of his father. He sighs and collapses onto a bunch of wild flowers, spreading their petals and leaves to the wind. The wind carries them back to the Pride Lands where Rafiki, sitting atop his tree, grabs them. He takes them back into the tree where he sniffs them and contemplates the apparent familiar smell. Suddenly it strikes him; Simba must be alive. Crazed with happiness, he quickly smears a mane around the head of his Simba drawing, stating that it is time.
Timon and Pumbaa are walking through the jungle together when Pumbaa becomes distracted by a large rhino beetle. Hungry, he follows it to the edge of the jungle and sneaks up on it as its perched on a log facing some grassland. His eye then catches something in the tall grass as the beetle flies away. Pumbaa screams as a lioness emerges from the grasses and gives chase. Hearing Pumbaa, Timon comes running and finds him stuck in the roots of a tree. He tries to free Pumbaa as the lioness draws closer. She leaps forward but Simba jumps in and begins to fight with her while Timon cheers him on. He tries to knock her down but she flips him over and pins him to the ground. Simba recognizes this move and his old friend, Nala (Moira Kelly). When he reveals himself, Nala is shocked and happy to see him again. Simba introduces her to Pumbaa and Timon, who is less than happy about the reunion since Nala had tried to eat Pumbaa. Nala tells Simba that everyone in the Pride Lands thought he was dead after Scar told them about the stampede. Nervous, Simba asks what else Scar told them, but Nala says that it doesnt matter now that hes alive and the rightful king. Simba excuses Timon and Pumbaa to speak to Nala alone. As they walk through the jungle together the romantic settings encourage their feelings for each other, though Simba is hesitant to talk to Nala about his past. She tries to get Simba to go back to the Pride Lands with her, telling him that everything has fallen into disarray since Scar took the throne. He refuses, explaining that he shouldnt worry about things that happened in the past, which angers Nala. She tells Simba that returning to the throne is his responsibility but he storms off and walks out of the jungle to an open field. He tries to justify his decision before yelling at the night sky that Mufasa wasnt there for him and feeling solemn that it was his fault.
He then hears singing coming from a tree behind him and sees Rafiki in the branches. Irritated, he walks away. Rafiki follows him and asks him a series of rhetorical questions and chanting seemingly nonsensical words. Convinced that the baboon is crazy and confused, Simba turns to walk away when Rafiki reveals that he knows Simba is Mufasas son. Rafiki then runs off and Simba follows. He finds Rafiki mediating on a rock and asks if he knew his father. Rafiki says "I know your father", to which Simba responds that he died. Rafiki laughs, saying that Mufasa is alive, and leads Simba through a thicket of trees and vines. They stop at a reflecting pool and Rafiki instructs Simba to look into it. Seeing only his reflection at first, Simba looks harder and sees an image of Mufasa. Rafiki says that Mufasa lives within him as a large storm cloud appears overhead and a specter of Mufasa speaks out to Simba, saying that he has forgotten who he is and that he must take his rightful place as the true king of Pride Rock. Simba begs his father to stay but the apparition disappears, echoing that Simba must remember who he is. As Simba contemplates the message and the change in the winds, Rafiki wallops him over the head with his staff. Outraged and in pain, Simba asks what he did that for. Rafiki says that it doesnt matter because its in the past, but though the past may still hurt, one can either run from it or learn from it. He swings his staff again and Simba ducks before grabbing the staff and throwing it away. Then Rafiki watches and cheers as Simba runs off, announcing that hes going back.
Timon and Pumbaa are sleeping together as Nala approaches them and nudges them awake, frightening them at first. She asks if theyve seen Simba but Rafiki appears overhead and declares that the king has returned. Confused by this statement and Rafikis mysterious arrival and departure, Timon and Pumbaa listen as Nala tries to explain that Simba has decided to go back to the Pride Lands to take his place as king.
Crossing the desert, Simba finally arrives in the Pride Lands to find it dark and barren. He eyes Pride Rock with a look of vengeance when Nala, Timon, and Pumbaa appear beside him. They all agree to help Simba reclaim the throne, though Timon is less than impressed by the landscape theyre fighting for. They sneak over to Pride Rock and discover that its crawling with hyenas. Simba offers Timon and Pumbaa as live bait and they do put on a colorful performance for the hungry hyenas while he and Nala move closer. Simba instructs Nala to rally the lionesses while he looks for Scar. He finds him at the base of Pride Rock, calling loudly for Sarabi. Hyenas nip at her heels as she approaches and Simba looks on mournfully. Scar questions her as to why the lionesses refuse to hunt. Sarabi explains that the herds have moved on and their only chance for survival is to leave Pride Rock. Scar refuses and, when Sarabi compares him to Mufasa, he cruelly hits her. Having seen enough, Simba appears on a ledge and runs down to comfort his mother. Scar backs away, fearful that its Mufasa that has returned, but when he realizes who it really is, he shoots a hateful glare at Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed. Simba confronts Scar, demanding that he step down from the throne or fight, but sly Scar asks why things must end in violence and says he would feel terrible if he were responsible for the death of a family member. Though Simba says hes put the past behind him, Scar questions whether the lionesses have done the same. When Nala questions this, Scar prompts Simba to tell them all who was responsible for Mufasas death. Sadly, Simba confesses that he was, though it was an accident. Scar uses this and accuses Simba of being a murderer, backing him up to the end of Pride Rock to the point where Simba slips over the edge, dangling by his paws. Lightning strikes and ignites a fire beneath him as Scar looks over him, remarking that this was just the way Mufasa looked before he died. Then Scar grabs Simbas paws and whispers in his ear that he was the one to kill Mufasa.
Enraged, Simba leaps over the edge and pins Scar, choking him to confess the truth to the lionesses. Fighting immediately breaks out between the hyenas and the lions. Timon and Pumbaa join the fray with their signature bowling moves and Rafiki impresses with some acrobatic martial arts. When Timon is cornered by Shenzi and Banzai in the lions den with Zazu, Pumbaa comes to the rescue, his fury provoked when Banzai accidentally calls him a pig.
Scar manages to slip away from the fighting but is followed by Simba. They meet at the top of Pride Rock surrounded by flames where Scar begs for his life, saying that hes family and that the hyenas are the real enemy. Having heard this, the hyenas back away growling. Simba relents, saying that hes not like Scar and tells him to run away and never return. Scar meekly walks past him but sends a pile of embers into Simbas face, blinding him for a moment. Scar then attacks Simba and a fierce fight ensues. Scar manages to knock Simba down and leaps at him but, using the technique Nala had mastered in her pinning, Simba flips Scar with his hind legs over the edge of Pride Rock. Scar tumbles down the rock face and lands at the base. He groggily stands up and notices the hyenas approaching him from between the flames. He greets them as his friends but they respond that he said they were the enemy. Scar looks at them in horror as they lick their lips and surround him before attacking.
Rain begins to fall and Simba returns to the lionesses where he greets his mother and Nala. Rafiki rattles his staff and points it towards the tip of Pride Rock. He bows to Simba, who gives him a hug, and says it is time. As everyone watches, and as the rain washes away dust and bones, Simba ascends Pride Rock, gazing one last time at the heavens before letting out a mighty roar and sealing his position as king. The lionesses join in, hailing their new king. Some time later, the animals of the Pride Lands gather once again at Pride Rock, cheering at Simba and Nala as they overlook the kingdom. Rafiki comes between them and holds up their newborn cub for all to see.

Then there were the bright colors and the animals singing and talking. She wondered if Muggle animals really talked like this or if it was just something made for the movie. It was probably for the movie but it would be bloody amazing if it was real. Besides, she really had quite a fondness for Simba and his band of crazy animals friends and even the enemies.
Her blues eyes shifted slightly to Kurumi so she could still watch the film and see her friend. She pondered her question for a moment and then replied, "Well typically in prides there is only one male. The others, when they get old enough, are shuffled out of the pack. Maybe that was Scar's battle wound from being ushered from the pride? Then again Mufasa I don't think would do that. He's too awesome. That and his voice makes me want to curl up in a ball and nap." It was just the most relaxing and wonderful thing in the world. Very authoritative... kind of like Tate.
O______________o
Just then she heard a cackling come from the rocks. Selina jumped in her seat and folded her legs up on her seat. They had to get out of there. SIMBA WAS GOING TO GET HURT. She could feel her pulse fasten. Honestly when Kurumi started to talk Selina completely and utterly tuned her out. SIMBA WAS IN TROUBLE.
When she finally tuned back into Kurumi her friend was talking about Gryffindor. Selina mulled it over for a bit and replied, "Yeah, kind of. Of course, none of these characters remotely remind me of you and I. Are we just not in this movie?"
"So...then Mufasa probably gave it to him? Since, you know, he is the leader of the pride and all that." And then Kurumi had a sort of awkward thought about Simba and Nala. If the one and only male lion in the pride...then that would mean... Kurumi shook her head. Nope. Not thinking about that.
Kurumi giggled. "So, you reckon Mufasa is Headmaster Tate? Who is Scar then? Zazu is his adviser and right handman, erm, bird, so I suppose that would make him Professor Vindicus..." Although, Zazu seemed far too stable to be their Flying professor. Scar seemed a better fit to be honest. Deputy Headmaster probably had dreams of becomnig THE Headmaster one day...
But now the scary hyenas were chasing the innocent little lion cubs and making all sorts of ridiculous jokes. Kurumi suddenly squeaked. She did NOT like the birdie boiler at all. Nope. And she really didn't like those hyenas either even if she found what they said to be hilarious.
The film continued...with a rather scary song sung by Scar that had Kurumi snuggling her pillow tightly to her chest, so she was glad when Selina moved the conversation along. "Maybe...characters like us just haven't shown up yet?" Because, so far the only dynamic duo was Simba and Nala, and well, they were not her and Selina.
Then, the scene changed and Kurumi practically jumped on Selina's lap. This movie was no longer fun...

Kennedy sank into his seat with a bowl of popcorn on his lap. He had been sitting straight as an arrow until he realized that he wasn't in class. Silly, boy. He took a handful of the buttery popcorn and mentally grinned. Movie days...they were the best.
His eyes were glued on the screen while he popped more treats into his mouth. He remembers watching this ancient movie when he was younger. Sigh. Life was much more simpler when he actually believed that Simba lived in Africa and that he would one day meet him.
Melanie smiled back at Autumn, took her popcorn bucket, and headed toward the snack table to get some refills.
She was almost at the end of the aisle when she bumped into a girl in Slytherin colors that was sitting further down their row. "Oh, sorry! I didn't see you there! It's quite dark in here." She smiled at the girl, noticing she was sitting all alone.
"excuse me a moment" Autumn said to her 2 friends, she up the side and out the door to go to the bathroom, she went and washed her hands and came back just as she was about to go on the stairs it moved causing her to fall... She landed on her left hand really awkwardly.. a searing pain like a knife went though her hand.. she got herself up, trying to hold back tears she was so clumsy! Got back to the theatre
"Guys, I'm so sorry" She said between sobs "I fell over again! I'm so clumsy" she tried to smile "Look I'm going to have to go to the hospital wing, I thin I may have broken my hand or fingers" SHe tried to wipe away her tears her make-up smudging, she knew she must look a state just what she wanted to look like infront of HIM. Damn! "don't worry you don't have to come you can stay and watch the movie, if it finishes before I'm out.. well yeah. Bye"
Autumn turned to leave the theatre.

Selina nodded in an odd spastic way to Kurumi when she mentioned the Scar/Mufasa issue. Honestly, she was just too engrossed in the movie to make any real coherent sense. It was just so amazing. That was it! She was going to the cinema as soon as she got home for vacation. That was going to be her entire break- the cinema. It was like some sort cult and she was now a member. Perhaps Selina could make one of these moving picture singing things, yeah sounded like a plan.
Then Selina took a moment to actually look at her friend, "Scar is Scabior for sure and you know it." It was true... her Professor was one scary person. Yeah, that was it for sure.
It was amazing and then the hyenas came. The song was cool as well but she did not like the voice of Scar... it was more of speaking than singing to be honest. Her head snapped to the side to make a quick comment to Kurumi, "Yeah... hopefully. I mean, we need to be in this movie or else why am I here?" She stuck her tongue out at Kurumi and turned back to the film.
Then... it happened... Kurumi jumped on Selina's lap. She was about to tell her friend to get offa her but then something horrible happened... Mufasa died. She blinked in shock and whispered in Kurumi's ear, "He died? I thought this was supposed to be a kid's movie?" Aww.. that was so sad.

Alyssa watched the movie for awhile until the part came where Simba's father got killed. She had to turn away and not look at that part, she always did. She couldn't stand to see anything die, even though it was for real. "So what do you think of the movie so far, Oakey? Any similarities to what you mentioned earlier about with Hamlet?"Alyssa asked him

Simba yelling for help, the lion tears, tugging on his father's ear trying to wake the fallen king up...it was all too much. That is, once she was able to forget the blatant rip off of the entire scene before. The bad guy over the good guy on a cliff and making him fall to his doom during a stampede...yeah, Kurumi had seen that before in Kimba the White Lion, only it had been the lion cub's evil aunt that had done it. It sort of took away from the charm and drama of the scene. The show she had grown up watching as a child had been made years and years before this movie. Grumbling a bit to hersefl as she remembered this, she stuffed some more popcorn in her mouth.
And then...there was something called Bowling for Buzzards on the screen, and Kurumi loosened her grip around her pillow. "Selina...do you see what I see? The meerkat and the warthog?" Kurumi wasn't entirely sure about her inkling just yet, seeing as they had only just made their appearance on screen, but as they spoke with Simba about things, a few other things caught her attention, mostly the banter between the two animals.

Pumbaa: Oh.
Yep. That had confirmed things for Kurumi. "I think we have finally made our screen debut," she laughed, returning her attention to her Junior Mint buttered popcorn. Of course, there was another song, but this one was very catchy and had Kurumi bouncing in her seat a bit, humming along as best she could since this was the first time she had ever heard this song before.
And then...her heart sort of stopped as Simba began to grow and grow until...
SPOILER!!: on screen
Kurumi leaned over and poked Selina. "Ne ne, Selina, isn't Simba sort of...attractive, for a lion I mean." He was. Perhaps they had drawn him based on the person who voiced him? Kurumi had seen that done many times before, so perhaps this one was under the same sort of principle?

For most people in the world having their best friend sit on their lap and cry over an animated movie would be an odd occurrence. In a very weird way that was normal for the Gryffindor Prefect and Captain, this was not a concern. Yes, Kurumi was sitting in Selina's lap since she had been frightened their by the scar song, but Selina had been too moved by the movie to tell her friend to move and they were both tiny girls so they fit in the same chair very comfortably. Besides Selina needed someone to hug when Mufasa died, it was just too sad to even be... well it was just sad in general.
But when little Simba was all alone in the desert Selina suddenly stiffled her wet eyes, because she did not cry, and watching intently as Kurumi pointed out a new set of characters. Who in Merln's name was that? A warthog and a meerkat were an unlikely duo and an odd one at that. The warthog was cool and relaxed for the most part but was slightly dramatic and the meerkat was obviously the one who had a good grasp on things but like to do things slightly over the top. It sounded oddly familiar. But what could it be...? Hmmm....
Kurumi connected the dots for Selina as the warthog and his buddy bantered over silly things, things that seemed ridiculous to the average person but to them it was important information like Bill. The meerkat and the pig were Selina and Kurumi. The redhead chuckled and said, "Wait so which one am I?" Speaking of which... she was SO HUNGRY. So she picked up her candy and started to eat that again. After all she had quite a few boxes to get through.

"Simba is attractive?" Selina repeated, "That's it. Off the lap. You are being judged so harshly right now..." Her eyes turned back to the screen to see pumba getting chased by the random lioness. RUN PUMBA RUN!!!!!

Well yeah tons. First there is the evil Uncle, and Simba of course is with out a doubt Hamlet. Mufasa we'll... he paused for a moment before he finished his sentence on comparing Mufasa to the King in Hamlet, seeing as what just happened on screen. Alyssa didn't seem to happy with that.

Jez was loving this. Pam and Nate had taken her to the movies during the holidays, but this was somehow better. Maybe not as good as watching movies in the Barstows' living room, but very close. And POPCORN! Jez had found a new love, as well as Caramello and Sprite. She was basically in heaven.
"Run, strange pig-like creature, run!" she cried at the screen, thoroughly enjoying herself.

The Lion King?? she thought. Classic! She quickly grabbed some popcorns and a bottle of water from the vending machine.
And isn't that a familiar face?? As Janice strode off into the theater, she saw Jory, also going inside it. She quickly moved towards him.
"Hey! Saw you in the duck pond yesterday. Enjoying it?" she said teasingly.
Jory turned as he heard a familiar voice asking him about the duck pond. "Janice!" he said greeting his fellow Huffie third year. "Hi! Yes I am. It's like being home again.'' He chewed on some popcorn as they took seats in the theater. "Enjoying the term so far?'' he whispered. The movie was already on the way but Jory understood it perfectly having watched it tons of times before. "Have you seen this movie before?''

Muggles were much smarter than they were given credit for.
Not knowing what to expect of it, Ari hesitated whether to take a seat or not, but she made up her mind when she spotted her favourite Hufflepuff. 'Hey you. Mind if I sit here?' she asked cheerfully, not really waiting for an answer before letting herself fall unceremoniously in the chair. 'I was wondering when I'd bump into you, it's been too long since we've seen each other.'
Jory was stuffing another set of popcorn into his mouth when he heard another familiar voice. "Ari!'' he said his voice sounding muffled as he chewed rapidly. Finally he managed to swallow. "I've been looking for you since we got back here, but you seemed to have disappeared off the face of the earth,'' he teased her. "I wondered if you loved the Muggle world so much you had to go back.'' He was referring to their summer vacation in Hawaii.
The Huffie offered Ari some popcorn. "Ari, this is Janice and Janice, this is Ari,'' he said. He wasn't sure if they two girls had met before . "What do you think of the theater, Ari? I don't think you've been in one before?''
Jory sang along as Timon, Pumba & Simba sang Hakuna Matata. This was one of his favoruite scenes.

Maybe Katie was dreaming though? How much of a coincidence was this? As weird as it looked Katie pinched herself before she entered, nope, she was awake, and alive for that matter as she felt pain when she did. Katie opened the door and smiled as she saw everything she had heard was true, it was a big cinema! Katie was grinning from ear to ear, she quickly went over to where the popcorn and that was and got a mini popcorn for herself, as she wasn't a very popcorny girl but didn't mind some, but only when at the cinemas she had popcorn. AND THEN THE DAY GOT BETTER.
There was nerds! The best muggle candy ever made! Katie grabbed a packet, two for that matter, one to give to Violet if she came, because Katie guessed that she probably didn't know what Nerds were as she hadn't known Disney, and Katie was going to show Violet every amazing muggle thing, yup, that was her goal, and if Violet didn't like the sound of that well too bad! But she didn't mean that as a bad thing, Violet will be so happy when Katie shows her stuff so clearly it wasn't a bad thing, Violet shall be thanking Katie at the end, just wait.
Katie stayed there for awhile to see if she could see Violet come, but she didn't stay long as Katie wanted to get good seats for the two. Katie went and got a seat in the middle-ish, well, more to the back then the front so she could see if Violet came or not, Katie looked at who was there and saw her sister and waved at her, and then went back to watching out for Violet as she ate some of the nerds, wanting to save the popcorn for the movie and when Violet came. Katie hopped Violet did come, as today was officially there day to spend together.
Violet cautiously poked her head into the doorway of the theater taking a quick look around seeing that it was already dark. She remembered reading the letter from Katie, well actually it was more like an urgent stress call so of course Violet had to be there straight away. As she made her way into the dark theater she tried desperately not to fall on anyone or fall in general. But thankfully she was using the seats to find her way around, quietly enough. There was almost one moment when she did fall but she quickly caught herself and carried her way on.
A few moments had gone by until Violet finally saw Katie and she gasped. She smiled quickly and quietly made her way into Katie's row. Making sure not to step on anyone's feet while she was trying to make her way over to Katie. Violet whispered to her best friend,"Hi Katie.." She excitedly gave her a hug and then asked,"So was this what your message was about?" referring to the odd screen with animals on it that weren't real animals. And there was strange singing in it with words that she didn't understand. Violet leaned over and asked Katie,"What...What is going on?"
Jory turned as he heard a familiar voice asking him about the duck pond. "Janice!" he said greeting his fellow Huffie third year. "Hi! Yes I am. It's like being home again.'' "Oh, you have a pond back there at your house?" she asked quickly as they filled in the seats. She put in some popcorns her mouth regularly, every 2 minutes or so. "Yeah, I did," she replied. "Thousands of times."

"So do you think it's more fun being with Muggles in their world, with all their activities, or being with the Wizarding world? I'm curious. I've always lived with Wizards in our house, but I did used to play with muggle kids when I was a kid. And they always found me really strange for liking Herbology and Potions. They were into dolls and things..." she said with a shrug. She loved it better in the magic world where she could be herself. Although if she was with witches, she probably would like the muggle world.
Zhenya took a handful of her salty/butter popcorn. "Yeah I love that stuff you have! But to be honest I do sort of prefer salty foods a little more. Did you want some of mine?" she asked, holding out her salty popcorn, skittles and malteesers.
"Yeah it was terrible but I was younger so I don't really remember it. So that's good... but not good about being sick when you're older," she said, remembering her grandparents. "Well I'm glad you're better!"
"Oh wow! Never been. Oh... well I don't think that's so weird, especially here. I bet most people haven't seen a movie - unless they are muggle born, or have a muggle parent. "
Zhenya got very excited as Desiree speculated the movie was about to start! She had to bite her lip to stop her from yelling out "YAAAAAAAAAY!"

And the movie was started. Good!
Desiree was relieved that it wasn't that strange she hadn't seen a movie before. She took a few skittles from Zhenya with a smile and held out her gummy bears for them to try... but silently. She was intent on the movie, her eyes practically hadn't left the magical (or rather non magical, soo it seemed magical to her) srceen since it started.
She decided she really dind't like this Scar person lion, I mean his name was Scar. And he just creeped her out.. She just wanted to yell at the screen Noo Simba don't listen to him! It was so obvious he was lying! But she did like Mufasa, he was just awesome, and so was Simba. But at the moment she found herself staring at the screen in confusion. Why had Scar brought Simba into a big canyon? She burrowed her eyebrows in confusion, before realizing his real plan. Her dislike of Scar jumped to a whole new level. The buffalo were coming, she wanted to cover her eyes, she didn't want to see Simba die, that's why Zhenya had cried right?
... But all of the sudden it was like MUFASA TO THE RESCUE! Simba wasn't going to die! She was filled with a sense of relief, this movie wasn't sad, see they all lived! ....
Oh.
Desiree watched in horror as Mufasa fell into the herd. And even felt a tear roll down her face as Simba cried. She dind't usually cry, but this was so sad!! At least Timon and Pumba cheered her up a bit.. (and grossed her out.. they ate bugs ) She found herself humming along to their song, even thought she'd never watched it, it was just so.. cathcy. "Hakuna Matata; what a wonderfull phrase. Hakuna Matata; It aint no passing craze. It means no worries, for the rest of your days"
Harlow hadn't heard about the muggle movie screening happening, but once she did she was so there.
She walked in and was surprised at how crowded it was. The movie was already in progress and her bottom lip poked out a bit. She had never seen the movie she had only seen the Broadway musical her cousin Willow had been in.
Her brown eyes scanned the theater looking for a place to sit and her face transformed into a smile when she spotted Kennedy. She weaved her way through the other students, muttering her apologies for walking in front of them. Though she wasn't sure she was blocking their view. But her hair might be she considered. "Hi Kennedy." she whispered sitting next to him.

Kennedy had been munching on some Starburst candy while deeply concentrated on the movie. This made him feel at home. Although he didn't have that big of a TV screen to watch in, but he was always surrounded by snacks and drinks.
He looked to his side with a big smile on his face when he heard Harlow greet him. "Hey there, Harlow." He didn't whisper because he remembered that the Muffliato spell was on so no one would be bothered when he spoke. "We're watching the Lion King movie," he said, for in case she didn't know, but this was a classic and she DID mention one of her family members being in a play about this movie.
Oh, how rude of him, not sharing his snacks. "Would you like any?" he asked, showing her a variety of foods: popcorn, Starburst, Skittles, Jelly Beans and Milk Duds. They were Muggle candies so he wasn't sure if she was familiar with them.
The moment he had heard of a Muggle movie night, Christopher zoomed into the secret door in the Muggle Studies classroom. And of course, as his right hand man, he had dragged the not so unwilling Cass with him. Once they'd grabbed some drinks and a big bucket of popcorn they probably couldn't finish even between the two of them, they'd plopped down in their seats and began watching the movie.
As a kid who grew up in the Muggle world, he'd really missed seeing old movies, especially as great as this one. They would set up their old DVD player and watch a ton of kid movies when they were younger and watch them all night. They were still rare for them to watch movies, as he'd been pretty poor, though. So sitting here brought back nostalgic feelings of sorts, but he was happy to be enjoying his childhood again.

"I don't see what the big fuss is all about, Christopher!" Cass exclaimed as she held on to the bucket of popcorn for dear life while he pulled her along into a dark room that looked liked a mini version of a muggle theather. "It's just a movie about --" glancing towards the poster hanging nearby "Lions." The Slytherin rolled her eyes and chuckled "Of course. Only you would drag me out of the library to watch a movie about...lions."
And now she wished she had paid attention to the notice that was pinned at the notice board at the common room. That way, maybe she would have an idea what the movie was about - aside from talking lions apparently.
She glanced at him as he reached out to take a fistful of popcorn and smiled at the expression on his face. Maybe she should watch the movie too? But instead, for some unknown reason, even if she knew that there was a charm in the room the protected your conversations or something like that, she whispered "What is this movie about, anyway?"
"Nice to meet you Gwen!"Cardigan said with a smile.Yay!!Another friend!!"No,"she said solemly when Gwen asked. Her parents NEVER let her go to these things called cinemas. She had to stay home all day and figure things out for herself. What a bore!
"Then this will be even better, won't it?" said Gwen encouragingly, smiling. She loved making new friends! It made her toes feel all jingle. "I remember watching this movie when I was younger. I was scared of those freaky hyenas."

She really didn't want to stay, going and studying ahead was what she'd been craving to do ever since the older girl grabbed her arm and forced brought her here. But.. now.. it was just... wrong to leave like this.
Louisa quickly got up and followed Ellie, who stopped to greet another girl. Louisa gave the new girl a neutral look before turning her eyes on Ellie, "What's the rush for, Ellie? What's wrong?" Also it was rude to just leave the girl you dragged down here so abruptly. Heh.
Eh. This was just stupid. Ellie silently asked herself why she had to be so pathetic. Ellie sniffled again and looked at Mia. Who noticed she had been crying. Well dang it. "It's just, er... dust. In my eye." Ellie lied, wiping her eye again. Her makeup was starting to run.
And then Louisa showed up next to her. What was wrong? Ellie shook her head and tried to slip past Amelia. "Nothing, I just... I don't like this movie." Of course, Ellie's first movie experience and she had to watch someone's father die. That was a stab from the past right through the chest. Ellie didn't want to watch it anymore, even if it had a happy ending.
"Louisa, you were right, we should be studying. You have OWLs and Mia and I have NEWTs to prepare for." She was kind of mumbling, sniffling and slowly back away from them and closer to the door. The sad little lion was still on the screen. It was so horrible. ;___;

Christopher was so excited to watch this movie, it was unbelievable. So rather than listen to his friend and be nice, he ignored her reluctance and forced her to join him anyway. She was going to have fun and she was going to like it! Looking over at her, he stuck out his tongue, the childish reaction Cass got from him quite often. "Yes, because this movie is awesome, and educational, so hush your mouth and watch!" But he had a feeling she wasn't going to hush if the only person she had to worry about hearing her was him.
Sigh.
His eyes still glued to the screen, he whispered back, forgetting about the charm, "Okay, if you watch you'll understand, but it's pretty much like Shakespeare's Hamlet, but with talking cartoon lions that sometimes sing." She'd understand that, right? She liked to read, and if she didn't read Shakespeare, he'd probably talked about it enough that she knew it backward and forwards already. Plus it was a really cute film, a children's classic. If she gave it a shot, she'd love it, he was sure.

With a last roll of her eyes towards him as he stuck out his tongue, Cass turned back towards the screen as the credits started rolling, her hand plucking one popcorn at a time. Just then, as the scene began to change from black to a typical African landscape, the intro started playing, sending Cass into some sort of shock as she practically jumped back into her seat.
Holy mother of Merlin! What was that?!
The Slytherin glanced over at Christopher and realized that he had been anticipating it, unlike her who was scared out of her wits with the sound. Darn intro song.
Hamlet? How was a monkey raising a cub into he air sort of like Hamlet? Oh well, she might as well find out, right?
Quentin sank into her seat, she'd seen this movie before but still adored it. In her arms were many different kinds of sweets, muggle and a few magic she'd bought herself. She opened a chocolate frog as the screen went dark and the movie began, sweet- she got a Harry Potter card. She jumped slightly as the intro started, not expecting the sudden music.
She couldn't help but sing along quietly, she did it every time, and it wasn't like anyone else could hear her- she hoped.
She had never actually hated Scar like others did, he had just made some wrong choices. Granted he was jealous and a little nasty- but he had good reason to be! And of course Simba was adorable, if not a little vain. Nala was just as cute.
But her favorite character would always be Rafiki, he was so hilariously insane!
She didn't like those Hyenas though, right now they were chasing Simba and Nala through the bone yard. And then Mufasa came and saved the cubs, yay! Scar had an awesome singing voice, deep and gravely- in her opinion it was better than the high voices of the cubs.
Simba was in the canyon, idiot shouldn't have trusted Scar. She always flinched during the stampede scene, she hated stampedes. A small tear trickled down her cheek, she knew what was coming. "Long live the king." and then Mufasa was falling, tears ran down Quentin's cheeks as Simba cried for his lost father.

Treyen was going to say what he'd thought, "Oh, he wouldn't be welcomed into the Common Room otherwise."Wink. That was almost a lie. Almost, because he'd never been in that situation before so he'll know which creature should be welcomed or not.
And...about the whole lions owning the land...er, he raised an eyebrow and chuckled softly. He had to remember this was a movie, after all, and Muggles were rather imaginative at this stuff. Not that Wizards weren't, but still. Talking animals? Odd.
Heeeey! Good for the lion that couldn't wait to be King, he reminded him of Simon. Clearly, Treyen didn't agree much with the responsibility of it all, in all honestly...but he only laughed softly when Nessie began some singing on her own.
AND more singing came.
O_o
Hyenas sing too? Okay, so, all animals did. Treyen shouldn't be surprised anymore...but...
....O_O
The KING died. What kind of a kids' movie was this?! And why was Treyen thinking Scar acted kind of cool? Eh? He was the bad guy. Tsk. "This is a happy movie, right?" Nessie had seen it before.
*snort* Yeah like what was gonna happen. Ness knew Trey would never kick her pygmy puff out the common room, unless of course he was misbehaving really badly, which even though he did misbehave it was only around Nessie, but never in the common room.
Mimicking Treyen's raised eyebrow, Ness looked at him confused. Why was he laughing? All she did was answer he's question, nothing really funny happened. "Er...Mr. Head Boy why are you laughing?" she couldn't help but ask, her curiosity always got the better of her.
And now Trey was laughing some more, but he had better reason to this time, because she wasn't really singing properly like she could. She was sort of imitating the lions from the movie, which made her sound like a terribly aweful singer."I sound horrific don't I?" she said with a little giggle. She was happy to make him laugh, because it sort of made her laugh too.
YAY! More of her favorite songs!!
Nessie continued singing off tune as she immitated the lions AND also the Hyena's and the bird. It was quite fun, and it seemed to have been making people laugh.
NO! Now the king, Mufassa was DYING! D: It was too sad, this was the worst part of the whole movie.Nessie hated it, and for some odd reason it sort of reminded her off her bestie. As she watched Simba the cute little cub get all teary, she couldn't help but shed a tear hersel. The tear didn't fall because she was thinking about her bestie, but more because the movie was pretty sad...well for now it was. "Yeah don't worry, it ends all happy, I can even tell you how it ends if you'd like?" that was if he didn't mind her spoiling the whole movie for him.

And then.... wait what???
SPOILER!!: on screen
"What do you mean which one are you?" Kurumi scoffed, shoving another handful of popcorn into her mouth. "Always eating, not the smartest tool in the shed but very lovable, singing voice leaves something to be desired...Selina, you are Pumba." Which meant that she was the wise cracking yet insanely on top of things and had the tendency to overreact Timon. Yep. It was fate. Those two creatures on screen were a very unlikely combination, just like they were. Selina was the strong minded all up in your face jock whereas Kurumi was the slightly uptight meek bookworm. They balanced each other and brought out the best in each other. Just like these two seemed to be. "You smell way better though." Cause, you know, Pumba's entire family left him every time that he...WAIT! Not in front of the kids! *waves*
"Wait...why?" Kurumi pouted as she removed herself from Selina. "He is! You have to admit that much. I mean, the years were really good to him." And then the movie got all mushy when Nala came back and a romantic song began to play. Kurumi was back to hugging her pillow. It was so beautiful...and...
Oh, Timon and Pumba ruined the moment. Heck, Kurumi and Selina would probably pull the same thing on someone they knew. Complete with song and ridiculous dance number. But in the next instant, Kurumi literally smacked her forehead, HARD, when Simba blew it.
"Why is it that guys always seem to find just the right moment to say something stupid?" Kurumi asked looking over at Selina and jabbing her thumb towards the screen. Forget lions, this movie was about adolescence.
Kurumi continued to eat and munch as the story moved along, and her jaw dropped when the Simba began speaking with Rafiki. Then Rafiki motioned over the pool of water, ripples forming and distorting Simba's reflection to take on the appearance of Mufasa. A deep rumbling noise echoed in the theater and Kurumi slouched in her seat. "Don't tell me his father is going to appear in the clouds..." And he did. Kurumi set her popcorn down and hugged her knees to her chest. Yep, dramatic moment had been ruined.
Kurumi sat their, grumbling to herself about the same imagery as the scene progressed.
SPOILER!!: on screen
