Default Joint Lesson 3: HoM & Potions

Joint Lesson
History Of Magic and Potions

As you walk to the Divination tower, a trap door in the ceiling comes down. As it makes its descent, carpeted steps magically appeared. A railing also materialized.

The professors led their classes up the steps, to the tallest point in the divination tower and stood by an odd looking wheel like thing. Was it muggle? Was it wizard? Was it just so old no one had ever seen it? In the small room were tables with burners on them, and chairs for the students to sit. One cauldron sat at the opposite end of the room, covered, and a second was open and empty.

Hecate sat on the bench around it, and motioned to the other professor, that the floor was his.

The Potions part of the class was moving quickly. Tayla observed Professor Lafay and followed her instructions as carefully as she could, while making sure she could still listen to Professor Scabior.

Tayla put half of the Horklump juice, Flobberworm mucus, Chizpurfle fangs and a billywig sting slime into her mortar and crushed the fangs in the liquid mixture. It turned bright purple just as the professor said. Tayla then added the purple mixture and the rest of the Horklump juice to the boiling water.

Professor Lafay waved her wand and another set of ingredients had appeared. She took the mint and ripped it in two and tossed it into the cauldron. Then Tayla took a mandrake with her gloved hand and covered it with 7 drops of honeywater, just like the professor did. Then she added that to the cauldron.

Tayla turned from Professor Lafay to Professor Scabior again, wondering what he would say next - or what he thought about Potions.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Daichi looked at his working space when new ingredients appeared on them and listened to the next instructions. He grabbed the mint after making sure his hands were clean and ripped it in half before tossing it in to the cauldron.

He then picked up the gloves that were laying beside the cauldron on the table and made sure there weren't any holes in them or that it was torn somewhere. This not being the case, Daichi slipped the gloves on until his hands were covered. He took the stewed mandrake and covered 7 drops of honeywater before adding it in to the cauldron as well.

Sooo...what about the boom berry juice?

Elise looked up and shook her hair out of her face violently. Not being able to see made her regret getting them in the first place. Humming one of her mother's favourite songs under her breath, she scribbled down the instructions.

Taking the mint, she ripped it in half and dropped it into the cauldron. Pulling out her dragon hide gloves, she snapped them on quickly before taking the stewed mandrake in her right hand. Eyeing the dropper suspiciously, she noted that there wasn't enough for 7 drops. Shaking her head, she dropped seven small droplets over the mandrake. When it was fully coated, she dropped that too in the cauldron. It sank with barely a splash.

Sierra barely had enough time to add everything to her cauldron before more ingredients were appearing before her. Her eyes flickered from ingredient to ingredient--mint, boom berry juice, a stewed mandrake, and a dropper of some liquid.

Without missing a beat, she picked up the mint, ripped it in half, and tossed it in the cauldron. Double checking to make sure she had her gloves on, she reached for the mandrake, covered it in seven drops of the honeywater, and then added it to the cauldron, as well.

At the sound of another snap, Sierra looked up at Lafay. Something just seemed odd about that gum snapping, but Sierra couldn't put her finger on it.

She watched her students and nodded. They were following along, even when she was going so fast... but that was the nature of this potion. She waved her wand and 5 more ingredients appeared. "Take the cup of sloth brain Mucus, and quickly add it to the cauldron. Then add the 2 moondew drops and stir once counter clockwise, then another time clockwise." She demonstrated as she spoke and snapped her gum again... "Use a pinch of the powdered root of asphodel to sprinkle in the cauldron. Add the two cups of shredded dittany, and follow it up almost immediatly by the whole two inch piece of Wiggentree bark."

She turned to the class and said "Can anyone tell me what potion we are making that would fit Professor Scabior's History lesson?"

Tay took the cup of sloth brain mucus and added it to the cauldron. She then added in the moondew drops and stired it counter clockwise then once clockwise. Taylor sprinkled in a pinch of the powedered root and added two cups shredded dittany. Then came the two inch piece of Wiggentree bark. To answer the professor's question, Tay raised her hand, "Professor since we are using sloth brain mucus and since in the story we were talking about the draught of the living dead, would i be correct to persume we are making the draught of the living dead?" It was really a question just an answer to the professor's question.

Once again flailing to keep up with instructions, Kurumi worked as quickly as she could, while also being careful, since it seemed as though that was the nature of this potion - speed. Once she had added the rather large piece of Wiggentree bark to the potion, trying not to wrinkle her nose in the process, Kurumi looked up and raised her hand. That last bit had confirmed her suspicion beyond reasonable doubt.

"Professor, I believe we are brewing the Wiggenweld Potion, which would have been the potion used to reverse the effects of the Draught of Living Death Leticia Somnolens used on the princess from the story we were discussing."

SPOILER!!: Kurumi's parchment

She turned to the class and said "Can anyone tell me what potion we are making that would fit Professor Scabior's History lesson?"

When Professor waved her wand and added 5 more ingredients onto the table in front of her, Alyssa quickly sat up and picked up her quill writing down what the ingredients were into her potions journal.

Text Cut: Ingredients for Potion

1. One pint of Horklump juice
2. Two drops of Flobberworm Mucus
3. Seven Chizpufle fangs
4. Billywig sting slime
5. Sprig of mint

6. glass of boom berry juice
7. One stewed mandrake
8. Seven drops of honeywater

9. Cup of Sloth Brain Mucus
10. Two drops of moondew
11. Pinch of powdered root of asphodel
12. Two cups of shredded dittany
13. Two inch piece of Wiggentree bark

As she took down notes, she watched as the Professor demonstrated what they needed to do next. Everything seemed to be done rather quickly, like as if time was of the essence. So Alyssa quickly noted down those steps into her journal as fast as she could, making sure that she wrote them correctly.

Text Cut: Potions Journal

Steps to Make Potion
1. Clean Cauldron
2. Fill cauldron with water
3. Clean mortar, pestle and measuring cup
4. Add half pint of Horklump Juice into mortar, drops of mucus, chizpurfle fangs and billywig sting slime into mortar.
5. Crush fangs in the liquid with pestle until color of mixture changes to bright purple.
6. Add mixture and remaining half pint of horklump juice into cauldron.
7. Take sprig of mint and rip it in half. Toss into cauldron.
8. Put on gloves.
9. Take mandrake and cover it with 7 drops of honeywater.
10. Add that into the cauldron.

11. Add cup of sloth brain mucus into cauldron
12. Add 2 drops of moondew
13. Stir once counter clockwise
14. Stir once clockwise
15. Sprinkle one pinch of powdered root of asphodel into cauldron
16. Add two cups of shredded dittany
17. Add two inch piece of wiggentree bark

Once demonstration time was done, Alyssa picked up the cup of sloth brain mucus and quickly added it into the cauldron. She then added the 2 drops of moondew. Taking out her wand she cleaned her wooden spoon by saying, "Scourgify" before dipping it into the cauldron and stirrring the mixture once counter clockwise. Then she immediately switched direction and stirred the mixture once in the opposite clockwise direction.

Putting down the spoon, and using her fingers, Alyssa sprinkled one pinch of the powdered root of asphodel into the cauldron before adding the two cups of shredded dittany into the cauldron, and then quickly picking up the two inch piece of wiggentree bark and dropping it into the cauldron too.

She then checked her journal to make sure that she had completed the steps as directed. Once she had made sure that she had done everything as directed, she reviewed her journal and studied the ingredients that they had used. Even though some of the ingredients would have been used in the Draught of Living Death, the fact that they had used wiggentree bark, made her inclined to agree with Kurumi. So she raised her hand, while keeping a close eye on her cauldron, and said, "Professor, I have to agree with Kurumi and say that the potion we're making is actually the antidote to the Draught of Living Death and that this is in fact the Wiggenweld Potion, mainly because Wiggentree bark was used. I don't know whether it means anything or not, but I've read that Wiggentree bark helps restore a person's strength, and I believe that was the name of the potion that the wizard/prince smeared on his lips before he kissed the princess, waking her up from her deathly sleep"

Alyssa then sat back and hoped that she had made the right call regarding the potion they had just made.

Assistant Marauder | 1/2 of BenSky | Hit Wiz! | Mischief Managed

Nerida had made sure her cauldron was clean, had light her burner, and has used Aguamenti to fill up her cauldron, made sure her pestle and mortar were completely clean, poured half a pint of Horklump juice into the mortar. She then added the two drops of the flobberworm mucus and the seven chizpurfle fangs and the billywig sting slime and crushed the mixture into a purple goo. She added the rest of the Horklump juice and the purple goo to her cauldron. She took a sprig of mint and riped it in half and threw it into the cauldron. She put on her gloves and picked up a mandrake and covered it in seven drops of honeywater and dropped it into the cauldron (lightly). Then taking the cup of sloth brain mucus she added it into the cauldron. She added two moondew drops into the cauldron and stired the potion once counter clockwise and stirred it a second time but this time clockwise. She took a pinch of powdered root of asphodel and sprinkled it into the cauldron and then added two cups of shredded dittany. She then added immediatly after the Wiggentree bark.

She listened to the teacher ask what potion they were making, she didnt really know though so she listened to her fellow classmates.

Belle looked at all the ingredients the professor mentioned in front of her. She then put half of the juice, mucus, the fangs and the slime into the mortar. Then after she crushed the fangs in the liquid and noticed it turned bright purple! After she got the goo to the right color, she added into the boiling water along with the juice.

Belle knew this potion was going fast but she loved the challenge. She noticed the board had new directions. She followed them. She had to take a cup of sloth brain mucus and quickly added it. Then Belle added 2 moondew drops and stirred once counter clockwise, then another time clockwise. She saw the powdered root and used it. She put a pinch into the mixture. Then she took two cups of shredded dittany and followed by that she used the two inch pieces of wiggentree bark.
Belle heard the professor's question after vigorously following the potion."Umm professor aren't we making the Draught of the Living Death?"

Amelia was at this point used to random ingredients materializing in front of her. She didn't even bat an eye as she watched Professor Lafey demonstrate the next step in the potion. She took the cup of sloth brain mucus (ewww) and quickly added it to the potion partly because it looked disgusting and made her gag. Then the two drops of moondew were added and she stirred it once counterclockwise and then another time clockwise. She next sprinkled a pinch of the powdered root of asphodel. Two cups of shredded dittany was next, and then almost immediately afterward she added the piece of Wiggentree bark.

When she was finished all this, she raised her hand. "I agree with Kurumi and Alyssa. I think that this is the Wiggenweld Potion. I am guessing so because of the Wiggentree bark that is being used. Plus I have made The Draught of Living Death before and this is definitely not it."

Jory looked at the other ingredients as they appeared. More interesting stuff. He took the cup of sloth brain mucus and added it to his cauldron. After that he added the two drops of moondew. He cleaned the wooden spoon, Jory stirred the contents once counter clockwise and once clockwise.

Taking a tiny bit of powdered root of asphodel, he sprinkled it into the cauldron. After which the Puff added the two cups of shredded dittany and then added the entire Wiggentree bark.

"Are we making the potion to reverse Draught of the Living Death?" Jory asked, his hand in the air. He had no idea what the potion was named though.

SPOILER!!: Laura's notes

Wiggenweld potion

Ingredients
1. One pint of Horklump juice
2. 2 drops of Flobberworm mucus
3. Seven Chizpurfle fangs
4. Billywig sting slime.
5. A cup of sloth brain Mucus
6. 2 moondew drops
7. A pinch of the powdered root of asphodel
8. 2 cups of shredded dittany
9. Two inch piece of Wiggentree bark

Instructions
1. Fill the cauldron with water
2. Put half of the juice, mucus, the fangs and the slime in the mortar
3. Crush the fangs in the liquids which will turn purple
4. Add the purple and the rest of the horklump juice to the boiling water
5. Take the cup of sloth brain Mucus, and quickly add it to the cauldron.
6. Add the 2 moondew drops and stir once anti-clockwise, then another time clockwise.
7. Sprinkle a pinch of the powdered root of asphodel in the cauldron.
8. Add the two cups of shredded dittany, and then add the Wiggentree bark.

She took the sloth brain mucus and added it to the cauldron. She took two moondew drops and carefully added it to the cauldron and stirred the mixture anti-clockwise and then, clockwise. She sprinkled a pinch of powdered asphodel root and added two cups of dittany, followed by Wiggentree bark.

Laura put her hand up to answer the question. 'Professor, I believe we are making the Wiggenweld potion that would reverse the effects of the Draught of Living Death..,' she said.

Working quickly to keep up with others, Ira quickly made a note short hand of the ingredients in her journal. 5 more ingredients! There were so many ingredients! How was she supposed to remember each of them? But then, brushing such thoughts aside, she hurried to add the said ingredients to her cauldron.

Ira took a cup of sloth brain mucus, which almost made her go yuck! and added it to the cauldron. Then added two moondew drops to the cauldron and stirred the mixture, first anti-clockwise and then, clockwise. She then sprinkled a pinch of powdered root of asphodel and quickly added two cups of dittany, followed by a piece of Wiggentree bark.

She looked up as Professor asked them a question. Since she didn't know the answer for sure, and also because many others had already answered before her, she decided to keep quiet, and instead, wrote the procedure in long hand in hr potions journal.

Okay, her earlier thought about how she had time to make sure she got everything written down perfectly accurate apparently wasn't entirely true. Stella blinked as five more ingredients appeared in front of her almost as soon as she'd dropped the mandrake into her cauldron, but quickly picked her quill up again to add them to her ingredients list in her journal, along with the instructions. In fact, and especially as people began answering the question that had been also posed, she also scratched out her original theory as to what they were brewing and replaced it with the right one. That made her feel ten million times better, although she still didn't particularly want to test her potion once it was finished.

Adding the mucus, she picked up her stirrer and her wand, Scourgifying it before even reaching for the dropper of moondew. She wasn't about to let something that simple slip by her, even if they were moving quickly. Once the stirrer was cleaned, though, she slipped it into her cauldron with her right hand as she used her left to add two drops of the moondew to her cauldron, then stirred once clockwise before switching direction to stir once the opposite direction. Stopping herself from flinching at the sound of the gum snapping yet again, she shifted her attention to the powdered asphodel root, taking a pinch and sprinkling it into her cauldron after removing her stirrer for now. Setting the stirrer down gently, she picked up the dittany and added it, followed seconds later by the piece of bark, before raising her hand.

"Asphodel is an ingredient in the Draught of Living Death, and dittany is used for healing. Therefore the logical answer is what most everyone has said. We're brewing the Wiggenweld potion, which fits Professor Scabior's lesson because it would have been necessary to reverse the effects of Leticia Somnolens' actions," she said, slowly lowering her hand again as she started worrying that she'd gone a bit too far into babbling. To her knowledge, neither professor was one a person wanted to babble in front of.

Vickers scrourgified the cauldron and checked it for any cracks and imperfections. Satisfied, he uttered "Aguamenti" and the pot promptly began filling with water.

He noted the new ingredients that appeared before him. He scourgified the mortar and pestle, he added the ingredients in, being careful to leave half of the Horklump juice for later. As he gently pounded on the mixture it began to glow purple, just as the Professor said it would. He turned towards the cauldron which has begun to bubbled and tipped the contents of the mortar in, then added the rest of the Horklump juice.

He was observing the good dissolve in the bubbling water when additional ingredients appeared on his desk. He measured out the sloth brain mucus, adding it quickly into the pot followed by the moondew drops. He scourgified the stirrer again and dipped it into the mixture, giving it one counterclockwise turn then followed it with another turn in the opposite direction. He then added the asphodel powder, shredded dittany and pieces of Wiggentree bark.

That last ingredient clued him in on what exactly they were making--

"Its the Wiggenweld Potion Professor. the Ravenclaw responded with a raise of his hand. Given its purpose, he was starting to dread how they were supposed to test it.

Tayla wondered what potion they were brewing. "It can't be Draught of Living Death," she thought. They hadn't used wormwood or asphodel which she knew were part of that potion. Still in thought, she took the cup of sloth brain mucus the professor referred to and quickly added it to her cauldron. Then Tayla added two moondew drops and stirred once counter clockwise and then clockwise.

Tayla tried to keep up with Professor Lafay. She added a pinch of powdered root of asphodel and sprinkled it into the cauldron. "Asphodel?" Tayla was a bit surprised. So they were using asphodel. But she still wasn't sure it was Living Death they were brewing. The other ingredients didn't seem right for that potion. Shaking her head, she continued working on her potion. She added two cups of shredded dittany and then immediately a whole two-inch piece of Wiggentree bark.

Tayla looked up as the professor asked her the question she had been thinking over in her head. She raised her hand and replied, "I'm not sure what it's called, Professor, but I think we're making a potion to counteract the effects of the Draught of Living Death." Tayla tried to ignored the strange feeling in her stomach. The professors wouldn't actually let them try the potions, would they?

Ella did her best to keep up as five more ingredients appeared in front of her. O_O brain mucus? Yuck. The first year looked at the ingredient disgusted, before pulling a the cup of sloth brain mucus towards her and emptying it into the cauldron. Next, she dropped the two moondew drops in. "One...two." and reached for her spoon, cleaning it quickly before stirring once counter clockwise and then again clockwise. The snapping of gum caused Ella's head to snap up every time, as if the action commanded the classes attention. It was quite odd since they probably should be concentrating more on their work. Using her right hand, Ella pinched some of the powdered root of asphodel and sprinkled it into the cauldron carefully. Next she added the two cups of shredded dittany, and lastly the two inch piece of bark. She wasn't completely sure what they were making so instead, she pulled her notebook in front of her, writing down the steps she had just completed in detail.

Why did the hag choose the draught instead of killing the princess? Maybe because 'Death Beauty' wouldn't make a very good fairy tale title? Sierra smirked at her inner answer then raised her hand. "Because if she did away with the princess, she could no longer use her as bait. With the princess in her hands, this hag had the whole kingdom at the tip of her finger," she started. "All she had to do was simply wake her. If she was dead, that'd just be an opportunity lost."

Pausing, she realized how harsh her words sounded. "Err, ...at least, that's possibly what the hag might have been thinking..." Not her. She had more decency than that. Trailing off, she glanced up at Lafay.
Scabior thought for a moment. "Good guess. But the princess being dead wouldn't really benefit the hag. She committed the act out of jealously.." Unknown jealously at that, but probably because the princess was most likely beautiful and she....was a hag. "Controlling the kingdom wasn't really a goal." Or it wasn't known to be a goal.

He shrugged. "It's very doubtful they would have known that she was the one to do it."

Laura wasn't sure if she was right and well she was guessing.
Scabior raised a brow. "I still think you are thinking of it as more of a fairytale." He paused. "Grief would be the first emotion upon hearing that the Princess had died, and also, Lecticia probably didn't know the King and Queen personally." They were royalty.

It was definitely not a potion she'd ever really thought about wanting to learn, especially considering they usually had to test their potions on somebody. It might have been easy for Leticia the Hag to sentence someone to that fate, but she couldn't. Not even if they were also brewing the antidote.

Which, actually, gave her an idea, along with some of the other answers that had been given, and she'd raised her hand tentatively. "Perhaps Leticia knew she was the only one who was proficient enough to brew the potion and identify the results. If she assumed that nobody would be able to brew the antidote correctly, or even realize that was what had been used, the princess was basically as good as dead. She could control the situation, and obviously she wasn't going to confess what she'd done or used, so the princess would just stay asleep for who knew how long. Leticia could just wait long enough, and then bring her back and convince her her family abandoned her or something. I'd think that would be wrose than death."
He gave a stiff nod, but that didn't mean that what the girl had said had been wrong. In fact most of it was correct. It just meant he would get back to her.

She has started to think that this Leticia hag had been really stupid. Using that Draught of Living Death? Really? ''That potion. Lame.'' The little Gryffindor murmured. Yes, that was what she thought of the diea; lame. There were so many way effective means to attempt to kill someone.

''Hags does not have all the magical skills wizards do professor. So maybe she wanted to kill the princess by dark magic so it would be easier but she was unable to use better magic for that. So she just brew this potion and hoped the getting old or starving would kill her.''
Scabior chuckled. "Don't let a hag hear you say that kid, or you'll probably be transfigured into some grotesque creature"

He nodded. "Makes sense"

He himself had gotten a little distracted as he watched the students begin to create their potions. Watching someone create a potion was pretty entertaining, if they actually knew what they were doing.

Watching the younger students make the potion...that was just funny.

Scabior cleared his throat loudly, almost as if to say, stop paying attention to Lafay and pay attention to him. "So, Miss Gardiner basically hit the nail on the head." Muggle idioms cool. "But I think the most important thing to take note of is the fact that, the princess was as good as dead." He quoted her yes. She should feel special. "The Draught of Living Death is such a powerful potion, that Leticia didn't see any problem in using it first to fake the princess's death. What isn't known is what Leticia was going to do with the princess."

She could have had a number of plans. Hags were strange. "Whatever she had planned however, didn't work out. She believed that she would be the only one to know of The The Draught of Living Death. But a wizard in the town heard about the Princess' ....sudden coma like state...and was convinced that something was suspicious. He snuck into the castle and smeared a potion on his lips before kissing the supposed dead princess." Just image if she had actually been dead. Scabior looked over to Lafay, well if the woman wanted to ask about the potion....

"Now that potion did work and Leticia's plans were foiled. But I want to touch on something important. Any ideas why this Wizard would go and save the princess, after feeling that something wasn't right?"

Plus I think that he wanted the opportunity to kiss her. I mean he could have easily just opened her mouth and poured it down her throat."

She demonstrated as she spoke and snapped her gum again...

At another wave of Lafay's wand, more and more ingredients appeared. Truth be told, Sierra liked it this way. She felt more focused on the potion and less on what was going on around her. Taking the cup of sloth brain mucus (eww), she quickly added it to the cauldron. After adding in the two moondew drops, she stirred once counter-clockwise then again in the opposite direction.

She laughed a little under her breath at the sound of the gum snapping once again. It amused her greatly for some reason. Maybe because, to her, it was so unlike Lafay. She spread in a pinch of the powdered root of asphodel, added in the two cups of shredded dittany, and then instantly added in the two inch piece of Wiggentree bark.

Whew. She took a moment to breath a little then raised her hand. "...because we're brewing the Wiggenweld Potion, which is what the Prince put on his lips to awaken the Princess," she said.

She could have had a number of plans. Hags were strange. "Whatever she had planned however, didn't work out. She believed that she would be the only one to know of The The Draught of Living Death.

Any ideas why this Wizard would go and save the princess, after feeling that something wasn't right?" [/color]

"These people had to have been in it all for themselves," Sierra said, raising her hand. "I just can't believe that the Prince wasn't thinking of himself and all the glory and honor he'd receive for waking up that Princess." It was the logical thing to do. Wouldn't anybody want to go through with something if it'd bring them so much more in the long run? Only Hufflepuffs would believe all the true love mess.

"Hmmm," Hecate thought to herself and then said, "Most of you are correct, we are brewing the Wiggenweld Potion which is the antidote to the Draught of Death."

She turned away from the students and waved her wand. "Seven Moly petals, just let them float on the water. Then add the cup of salamander blood followed quickly by the ten Lionfish spines." She demonstrated. "Unicorn horn grated over the cauldron, and then the final ingredient: Wolfsbane. Stir 20 times counter clock wise. And let simmer."

"Now that potion did work and Leticia's plans were foiled. But I want to touch on something important. Any ideas why this Wizard would go and save the princess, after feeling that something wasn't right?"

The Ravenclaw stared innocently back. What? It could be very possible that that was the Hag's plans, given their reputation of spite and deception. And then the Professor said nobody really knew the Hag's plans since it was foiled. Vickers still thought putting the Princess in a coma was just stage 1 of the Hag's plans.

He listened to the next question and raised a tentative hand "Leverage Professor?" the Ravenclaw started "Leverage on several fronts-- the Wizard could've been a rival of the Hag... Hag thinks she's outsmarted everybody but here comes the Wizard upending her plans, proving to all that he was better than her. And certainly being the person that saves the King's daughter will sway many things in his favor." And the kiss? Why even bother coating it on his lips? "...And I guess most guys would grab the opportunity to kiss a pretty girl." he mumbled sheepishly in the end. It was true, specially one that without a doubt wont be dodging it.

SPOILER!!: Lafay

He turned his attention back to his cauldron, taking the petals and dropping them along the surface of the bubbling mixture. He measured out the salamander blood before tipping it over the pot, the counted out the Lionfish spines before dropping them in promptly. He scourgified the grater before grabbing hold of the Unicorn horn. Carefully he grated the rare ingredient over his pot, taking extra effort that nothing is wasted. He then picked up the wolfbane stalk and dropped it into his cauldron. Taking hold of the stirrer he started to turn it towards the counter-clockwise direction, counting as he went along.

Selina looked down at her potion that was in the midst of being completed. Her blue eyes scanned the room to see the other potions that were in close proximity to hers, but all she could see was the black tops of the cauldrons. Merlin, she just wanted to check and see if she was performing the potion at least moderately correctly. It seemed that she was literally on her own this time. Then again, why wouldn't she be? It was the last potion she would need to brew this term.

Listening to Lafay she quickly jotted down what she would need to do for the next portion of the brewing. Once she was done writing down what she deemed necessary she went to work doing what she needed to do. First she took seven moly petals and allowed them to float on the water. Then she added a cup of salamander blood to the brew. Quickly, with a little flailing on her part she added ten lionfish spines. Following that she grated unicorn horn over the cauldron, which was extremely gross. Finally she added the last ingredient- wolfspane. She stirred it twenty times counter clockwise and then allowed it to simmer. Once it was on simmer she turned her attention back to history of magic.

"Well, perhaps he was searching for glory and riches. I hate to be a cynic, but she was a princess. The benefits he would receive from her family for helping her would be beyond his wildest dreams. It seems selfish causes could be the only reason to me."

Belle raised her hand and took a guess out of her instinct. "Professor, didn't the wizard love the princess? Sometimes love makes you do crazy things." That was the best answer she could stir up.

Belle heard the potions professor announcing ingredients to put into her potion. She put in the seven moly petals and let them float. "Awww they look soo pretty!" she smiled. Then she added a cup of salamander blood and quickly followed by ten lionfish spines. Then she found her unicorn horn and grated it over the cauldron. Then after ALL that. She added the wolfsbane. She stirred the potion 20 counterclockwise and let it simmer. She wiped the sweat off her face but knew she was doing the potion right.
