The glittering night sky is clear and visible through the enchanted ceiling, and the floating candles bedeck the entire hall in a warm golden light. All seems well with the world, aside from the empty plates still waiting for food to appear.

But Keefer was talking so Alec was going to pay attention. "I know it's a sport..." That's all he knew, really. "I just heard about it a couple of weeks ago. How long have you been playing?" The boy might be very experienced and could just tell him everything he needed to know about Quidditch.
Ah, so he didn't know anything. Muggleborn, perhaps. "Yes, it's the biggest Wizarding sport. It's played on broomsticks. There's three players called Chasers that try to score goals, each worth ten points. The Keeper tries to block the goals. Each team has two Beaters that try to hit an enchanted ball at the other team and knock them off their brooms." He hoped this wasn't information overload. Quidditch could be confusing to explain. "The final player on a team is the Seeker. Their only goal is to catch the very tiny and very fast Golden Snitch, a flying ball that ends the game and gives the catcher's team 150 points," he said, finishing his monologue.
Maybe this boy would like to play? Who knows, but I'm always on the lookout for potential players. "I've been playing on and off since I got to Hogwarts. I knew about it before, but my parents didn't really want me flying before I had proper instruction like we get here. So I started at the same level you will, not knowing anything." Hopefully that would give Alec some confidence.
Jessie turned from looking down the House Table to look back at Sophie. "Charms sounds fun, too!"
She laughed as Sophie nearly bounced off of the bench. "I was so nervous about getting my wand, but it turned out alright. I only had to try one! It chose me right away! How about you?"
"Oh, it took me about five wands to finally get mine!" Sophie's eyes shone as she spoke. "You see, mine's made of vine, so when it was just getting close to me - I didn't even have to hold it! - it shot pretty sparkles everywhere! Like fireworks!" she then remembered she was probably talking to a pureblood - being a Weasley and all. "You know, those fire colorful sparkles thingies muggles sometimes use to make noise and light up the sky!" Sophie smiled. She had great fun with muggles, they were so silly.

For a second Messer thought that the older girl gonna say second but then she said she's a third year. Another older badgers, eh? "Cool..!!" he exclaimed. "Are you looking forward to your third year?" Because he's looking forward to his. Particularly quidditch. "Yup I'm a first year." he answered it anyway.
His cheek were tinged a slight shade red when Nessie asked if he's hungry. That only mean one thing the older girl heard his stomach growling. Merlin that was embarrassing! "Yes. I'm sorry about that noises." Bad tummy! "Are you hungry too?" he asked Nessie.
Cool? Ness snorted at his comment a little. She supposed it was all cool to be big and grown up, but still each year the work got harder and harder and now that she was in her third year, the work would be pretty difficult. "You know what...I actually am, I think this will be a good year for me." She answered trying to be positive. Her first two years hadn't been easy at all, but everyone always said third time was a charm right? So hopefully her third year would be a charm. "You excited for your first year?" she asked. The first year at Hogwarts was supposed to be the most exciting and obviously the best, which it was for most people, but it wasn't really for Ness.
Nessie couldn't help but giggle as the Messer's cheeks went a little pink. He must have been embarrassed, but then so was she earlier. "Don't worry about it, my stomach has been.." there was a small pause and her stomach growled again. "..growling too." she continued and then burst into laughter. Her stomach wouldn't stop growling. "I'm not hungry, I'm starving." she said biting her lip.

Alec's grey-blue eyes searched around until... they rested on a girl sitting on her own. She seemed a bit older than him, unless she was one of those people who looked older than they actually are. Either way, he was going to pluck up the courage and go up to her.
So, the eleven year old stood up and walked over towards the girl. He sat down opposite her and smiled. Yes, she could be in his year but just look older. "Hey!" he said, giving the girl a single wave, "Erm, i'm Alec, Alec Summers."
Looking to her side, Nessie saw a little boy that looked like another firstie aproaching. She watched him carefully as he walked, she wouldn't take a chance again, not after the train incident. She didn't really want another firstie to torment her with some rat or some distgusing thing. Either way this firstie looked fine, he didn't seem to be holding anything that looked dangerous.
When he reached her, she gave him a small grin. He was such a cutie. She just wanted to pinch he's cheeks right there and then. How could such a cute little thing exist? Ness wished she had been as cute as this little kid when she was a child, but she was sort of glad she wasn't. She couldn't stand it if anyone called her cute, whether it was her parents, aquantances or even her best friends, she just couldn't stand it.
Alec, a common name, but yet a pretty name too. "Nice to meet you Alec." she said looking at his adorable cheeks, she really wanted to pinch them. "I'm Renesmee...but most people call me Nessie or Ness." and with that she gestured for him to sit to the seat next to her. She folded her arms, so she wouldn't end up pinching his cheeks. "Your a firstie?" she asked, even though she was almost convinced he was.

'Nessie!' Daisy grinned to her friend, noticing she was also talking to this Oscar boy. 'I haven't seen you for ages,' she said, 'how are you?'
Raising a brow Nessie looked at the boy. He wasn't trying to laugh or was he? Then she heard it. He's stomach was growling too and he was for sure laughing. She couldn't help but giggle too. Stomach noises was just something Nessie found rather funny. "We could start a growling band with our stomachs." she said as she burt into laughter at the idea of a growling band. She sort of stopped laughing, when she saw the boy was blushing. He must have been embrassed which wasn't something, Nessie liked people to feel and so she tried to hide her laughter a little.
She grinned at him as they shook hands and then giggled again when he started to laugh. She looked at him properly again, and noticed he was tall. Too tall infact, well too tall to be a firstbie that was. "So um...I'm guessing you not a firstbie?" she asked looking at his height again.
It was after a few seconds, that Nessie heard a familiar voice. It was Daisy. Nessie grinned at her fellow housemate. They really hadn't seen eachother in long, maybe even too long. " Daissyy!!" She said with quite a big smile on her face. "I've been....fine." She chose her words carefully. She knew that Daisy knew nothing about what had happened, and Daisy didn't really need to know either. Everything was getting better now and it wasn't necessary to talk about it anymore."How about you?" she asked being polite.
"Oh, it took me about five wands to finally get mine!" Sophie's eyes shone as she spoke. "You see, mine's made of vine, so when it was just getting close to me - I didn't even have to hold it! - it shot pretty sparkles everywhere! Jessie laughed at Sophie's story. "I only had to try one. When I picked it up, it made me all warm indie, like I had just hugged a friend I hadn't seen in a very long time!" Jessie smiled wistfully, remembering her special bonding moment with her wand.
"Sparkles! Yeah, I know what those are! And Fireworks, too! My dad loved muggles so much he married one, just to better understand their world!" Jessie laughed again. Muggles were quite silly. She had a few muggle friends back home, but mostly wizarding friends. She felt it was an even balance.
Jessie turned from Sophie and looked down the long Hufflepuff table; her Hufflepuff table. She saw some of the older students deep in conversations with their friends, the first years who looked a little nervous, some looked like they didn't like the sorting hat's decision. She hoped they would soon learn to like it here, like she had. Yellow wasn't her favorite color; it clashed horribly with her ginger hair, but she liked Hufflepuff nonetheless. Her reverie brought a smile to her face. She was home!
Salima sat down at the Hufflepuff table next to a girl with ginger har and een, almond-shaped eyes. She must have been a first year because Salima would have been sure if this girl was at Hogwarts for two years. 'Hello' Salima said turning to the girl 'You must be a first year. What's your name? I'm Salima and a Third year. Hope you have a great year.' She smiled.

Alec was officially confused. Why was Adeline being like this? She had been so nice before and now... she was acting as if he had done something to her. He hadn't! Last time he checked, he had just been nice. That's all. Nothing more. What more did she want?
"Don't apologise! I like talking to you," See? He was being NICE! "The only way she can know is if she has spies here at Hogwarts," he said, "Or if you tell her. You're not going to tell her that i'm talking to you, are you?" Because that would be very mean on Adeline's part.
Ugh. This was hard for her. The last thing she wanted to do was be mean to him. She wanted him to stay her friend but then there was Anya and the her mother which made it even harder for her to do. She didn't know what to do.
"You do?" Well that was a stupid question. "She has her ways and you never know what she could do." Her emotions were spinning and she needed to gain back control but she couldn't and that's when she wrapped her arms around him into a awkward hug.

"Ok then, Treyen-Mr-Head-Boy!" Sophie said, smiling playfully. She never missed a chance to amuse herself.
Eh, no. No, that was necessary at all! "'Treyen' would suffice." Seriously. Unless they felt the need to add 'Sir' at the beginning of it like Eino had done before, then all was fine.

A thought crossed her mind. A head boy was talking to her. She decided to push the thought away and not fangirl like she might have in her first-year.
"I was joking, just so you know. I don't want to be told off by a Head Boy before I even go to my first class of the year," Glenn joked.
After listening to what she had to say, Treyen tilted his head to one side. What she said...that wasn't going to keep her away from those kind of doors, and truthfully, it wouldn't keep him out either. "I'm sure it'll say something more than 'Keep Out'." He said, with a smile.
Really, in the past the sign at the door had stated that students better not enter. So, yeah, not just 'Keep Out'.
Joking? Yeah, that was a really funny joke. He...also wasn't the type of Head Boy to tell off a student either, depended on the situation. "Of course." He added a wink, just because.

Most years we just get a room at the Leaky Cauldron for the night, some years we travel by Floo powder the morning of and just use Muggle transport to King's Cross." Unless they were out, which was the majority of the time.
Oh, okay. Well, as long as they still needed to get things from Diagon, then he supposed that arriving the day before the Hogwarts Express was pretty convenient.
Plus, missing the train ride would be awful, right? He did enjoy meeting his friends on the way to Hogwarts.
"Oh, I see." He said, with a smile. "I'd probably do the same thing if I lived close to Hogwarts, anyway." Granted, if he lived in Hogsmeade, he'll skip the train.

"Well the way you welcomed me wasn't very nice in my opinion. Did you always want to be a Hufflepuff?"
***
Adeline looked at the girl and wondered if she knew anything about being on the Quidditch team.
"By any chance do you know if first years can try out for the Quidditch team? " she asked the girl.
She felt like she was slowly starting to feel at peace with being a Hufflepuff but not totally yet. "I think it's gonna take be a while before I know what they are. " she frowned. Adeline really wanted to fit in but she just couldn't. She new she couldn't
***
Adeline looked at the other first year that was freaking out about being in Hufflepuff.
"You're in the same boat that I'm in." she told him
She looked at the boy and tried to give him a smile.
"Whatever you do don't listen to that Hufflepuff over there..." she said pointing to Treyen.
"He's way to negative and he'll make you think that you don't even belong at Hogwarts."
Aha! Now she was upset. That was way better than making a girl cry, wasn't it? "Nah, you don't have to be sorry about those things," he said, shrugging it off. It made him glad she spoke of 'expectations', because this was no ordinary House.
And she was right. It wasn't the very nice welcoming one could hope for. "Well, you weren't very nice either." She wasn't. He was also right about it. Granted, he could've skipped that and consider the fact that she knew nothing of this place until the last summer...but he didn't.
Her question took him off guard. Thankfully, he knew the answer. His wide smile was probably an indication of the answer he was going to give her. "Actually, I did." He loves being one too.
So, he didn't understand how she was feeling...but that never crossed his mind.
Then she was talking to Arya about Quidditch? So, Muggleborn. But she knows Quidditch exists. Nice. She should've know about Hufflepuff too. "First years can try out." Adeline wasn't asking him, but he still replied. "Do you like Quidditch?" the Quidditch Captain was nearby, by the way.
Sigh.
He wasn't being positive? That was funny. It did make him look to that other student she was suddenly talking to. "Don't make others jump into that boat too."

Tyler glared at the boy. Didn't he have some older kids his age to bug. He was trying to scout out a seat at the slytherin table here..jeez.
"I'm not rude, I'm busy." Enough said.
His eyes had been on the boy, but only now did he stood closer to him. "Why don't you?" he asked, crossing his arms across his chest. "You should head over to the table you say you belong to." By all means, he wasn't stopping the boy.

He was glad that Treyen wasn't questioning their travel arrangements. Some people would probably think it was a waste of gold to get a room, but it was also good quality family time before Keefer had to leave. "Yeah, arriving by the train is just so classic, I doubt anyone would want to miss it. There's something really exciting about it, the anticipation of the Feast, the Sorting, and a brand new year."
And then there were the firsties who complained about the Hat's decision. They tended to spoil the Feast for everyone, including themselves. Keefer had already heard Treyen dealing with some less-than-thrilled Puffs.
Jessie laughed at Sophie's story. "I only had to try one. When I picked it up, it made me all warm indie, like I had just hugged a friend I hadn't seen in a very long time!" Jessie smiled wistfully, remembering her special bonding moment with her wand.

"Oh, that sounds cool too!" Sophie said, even though she still thought pretty sparkles were nicer than a warm feeling. She liked colorful stuff. "So your mum's a muggle? That must be kind of weird! Does she know about you and your dad being magical? she asked with a worried look on her face.

"We'll be the good Prefects that we've been ever since fifth year. For the Puffs." Pause. "And you'll be an even better one 'cause your Head Boy now." So he HAD to be at his extra best. It would be easy 'cause Treyen was a good co-prefect and the best for Head Boy.
And she should probably put on her badge so they'd know she was their prefect.

"You should be able to." Arya mused drumming her fingers lightly against the table. "The only real restrictions is that you can't have you own broom, but I'd double check the first years being on the team with our Captain."
Arya, after all, was not one to know the rules of qudditch, even if she did attend the occasional match.
But oh Treyen backed her up. Maybe she did know more than she thought? Hehe. He got a thankful grin for that.
Finally finding her badge in her purse, she pulled it out and pinned it to her chest. There. Now it was official she supposed. "That's fine, so long as you keep an open mind, you'll be fine." That was all she really needed.

"Quidditch sounds like it's a lot of fun!" Really. It did! The fact that it was on broomsticks and he could end up falling a long way did seem a little scary but... Keefer could help him, as long as he didn't mind. Alec could really see this boy as his Quidditch mentor. But he wasn't going to tell the boy that.
Alec blinked again. "So let me get this straight," he started, "You started off not knowing anything about Quidditch and now... you're Captain?" You must be really good!" Alec was secretly glad that he was in the same house as Keefer now. If he didn't make it onto the team, which seemed very likely, he could cheer on Keefer alongside cheering on his own house.

Alec smiled back at the girl, secretly glad that he wasn't being shouted down for randomly coming towards her. He would hate it if anyone did that to him. Being nervous about Hogwarts and then being shouted at wasn't exactly the warm welcome he would have hoped to receive. Especially seeing as he was so used to everyone being nice!
But this girl wasn't shouting him down at all. Instead, she was looking at him in a slightly odd way. Did he have something on his face. Alec tore his eyes away from the girl and looked down at the silverware in front of him. He turned his face this way and that. Nope. Nothing on his face. So why was this girl looking at him weirdly? Maybe it was a girl thing to do. Look at people weirdly. He wasn't a girl so he didn't know.
Alec smiled again as he squished into the seat next to her. Renesmee. That was as nice as saying Hufflepuff! Ren-es-mee. Renesmee! But he couldn't see himself saying that all the time. So it'll have to be Nessie or Ness. "Nice to meet you too Ness," Ness it was. But... he didn't understand what she had just said. Firstie? What was a firstie? He was a first year... was that the same thing? "Yeah, i am a... firstie," he said, "What about you?" She could be a firstie too and then they could be in the same year, house and classes together.
SPOILER!!: Adeline!

"You do?" Well that was a stupid question. "She has her ways and you never know what she could do." Her emotions were spinning and she needed to gain back control but she couldn't and that's when she wrapped her arms around him into a awkward hug.
Alec blinked again. Why was Adeline asking him a silly question? That seemed like a very girl thing to do as well. Girls asked silly questions didn't they? Maybe Adeline was just being a girl now. "Of course i do!" he said, "Why do you think i talk to you?" He wasn't doing it because he liked talking or something.
"She doesn't seem very nice," he said, "She can't tell you who to be friends with and who not to be friends with. It should be your choice." Maybe it wasn't nice of him to say that Adeline's mother wasn't very nice. Maybe he should have just kept his mouth shut about that.
And... then she hugged him. Okay, there was definitely something wrong with girls and their hugging. Did they just like hugging him a lot? He didn't have a sign above his head saying that he needed a hug did he? Alec looked up just in case. Nope. No sign. Except... the ceiling looked a lot like the weather outside. That was odd. Alec looked down at Adeline and hugged her back.
Sammy found himself making his way over to the Hufflepuff table about halfway through the feast. He had been talking to some people at the Slytherin table, but none of them were as cool as any of the others he had met. He knew that there were a couple people in Hufflepuff that he knew...and that he still wholeheartedly thought he belonged there. Sam still did not understand why the hat had put him in Slytherin. He looked up and down the table trying to find Adeline or just someone who looked friendly enough to talk to...

Minnie probably wasn't the best person to ask, because of what happened between the Hufflepuff and Rose, but she hoped that Minnie wasn't including Lilly in it.
Minerva heard someone behind her and looked. It was Lilly she jumped up and hugged her. "Lilly I haven't seen you since the wedding. Where is Rose?" she looked around and didn't see her. Then remembering the way Rose treated her at the wedding she frowned probably still mad at her. "I haven't seen Violet, tell me she isn't hiding up in the room already? I will keep an eye out for her. Would you like to sit and talk for awhile?"

"Yeah." Head Boy. That was starting to sound...absolutely terrifying. Especially hearing it from Alex's voice, since Treyen had once thought that Alex was older than him.
This is the kind of people Hufflepuff needed, because as soon as the 'congrats' were said Treyen felt in a better mood. His smile did widen, "Thanks. Hope you don't get in trouble, Alex." Because he'd hate to be the one having to lecture this particular Greingoth.
Alex grinned. "Haven't you learned yet that I'm the Greingoth you DON'T have to worry about?" he joked with a small laugh. Alex was fanatical about making sure he stayed out of trouble--confrontations were not his strong suit, so he just didn't get himself into those situations. He was smart about that, a trait that he'd clearly inherited from his father seeing as how Sierra didn't seem to have that same trait.

Feeling sorry for the guy who clearly didn't know where his own table was, he waved the kid over. "Hey buddy, you lost?" he asked playfully with a grin.

Good, he hadn't overwhelmed the poor kid. "It is a lot of fun. And dangerous as well, but if you get hurt our nurse can get you sorted out straight away. I only got hurt my first time in the Championship Game last season. But I was just sore for awhile, nothing even broken. Most people are fine." He nodded. Hopefully he wasn't scaring Alec off.
"Yeah, I started knowing hardly anything. I mean, I knew the rules and strategy of Quidditch, but I'd never so much as touched a broom before. But I really don't think I deserve to be Captain, to be honest. I just got lucky that the rest of the team was pretty young." He wasn't trying to be modest, it was just the truth.
"Hey, if you want, once Flying lessons have started I can give you a few pointers."
She looked back at Jessie and could not help but laugh. Jessie didn't know it, but she had just made everything funnier to Sophie.
Jessie laughed at the thought of her parents. "Yeah, my mom knows. Dad told her years ago, before they got married. He had to because she was always asking why he wanted to know about things like telephones and the police department!"
Jessie saw the look Sophie had given her and turned a shade of red that put her hair to shame.

Sammy looked over at the older boy as he heard him ask if he was lost. Lost? Nope. Sammy wasn't lost. This was where Sammy belonged. Right? "Nope." He smiled at the boy. There was no way he was lost. Sammy was still convinced he belonged in Hufflepuff. That hat had just made a total mistake. That's all.
Alec smiled back at the girl, secretly glad that he wasn't being shouted down for randomly coming towards her. He would hate it if anyone did that to him. *mellow* Nessie kept a straight face as she watched the new Hufflepuff check himself in the silverware. Since when did boy's actually care about their appearances? She was utterly impressed yet shocked, he was just like her in that way. She always had to make sure she looked alright, otherwise she'd have a huge fit. She knew she wasn't really that pretty, yet it didn't meant she couldn't try to be beautiful. "You look prefectly fine." she said giving him a wink.
Naaww, she kept on looking at his cute little face. She must have been creeping him out staring at him like that, but he was just too adorable. Without realizing it, Nessie unfolded her arms and her hands moved towards his cheeks. She couldn't resist anymore, without anymore hesitation she pinched his cheeks. "You so cuuuttteee!!" she said as his cheeks were pinched between her fingers.
Pouting, Nessie nodded her head a little. She could tell he was a firstie, no person older than ten or eleven could be this cut. "Though so, you look like one." she gave him another grin. "I'm...shockingly enough a third year." It was a bit scary now that she thought of it, she couldn't believe how old she had become. She was a big girl now.

Ok, now Alex was confused. The boy said he wasn't lost, yet he was just...hanging out there. He blinked. This boy was clearly wearing Slytherin robes...maybe he was looking for someone.
"Do you need help finding someone?" he asked. If he did he felt bad just letting the kid stand there.

Minerva looked around trying to see if it was close to time to eat. She was starting to get fidgety again. Without even thinking about it she picked up the spoon and began hitting it off the table. She looked at her friends talking and having fun glad to see everyone getting along again. She hoped she could truly enjoy being happy at some point this term.

So conversation with Adeline had gone down the drain so Sammy just kinda sat there. Listening to the conversations around her and waiting for the food to appear on the golden plates. Why wasn't there any food on the plates in the first place? Where the house elves on strike again? She sure hoped not because that would mean the kitchens would be closed and Sammy didn't know if she could survive another year with no kitchens. She had survived it last year because she was either too busy trying to get Everett and Amy together or studying for OWLs. What if she died of starvation, oh that would be bad. Speaking of bad, where the hell was Amy? She had made her suffer with Everett for a whole train trip it had been horrible.

Jessie turned to the boy Sophie had been talking to. Had he heard Head Boy?? She gulped, and suddenly became nervous sitting so close to someone so important. "Excuse me? Are you the Head Boy," she asked in awe. She never dreamed she would meet the Head Boy on her first night!
How come all first years couldn't be as nice as this one, eh? And Sophie and Glenn...who were surely happy to belong in Hufflepuff.
"Why, yes, I am. And if there's anything you find yourself needing...don't hesitate to ask me or the other House Prefect." He said, with a smile. The other House Prefect would be Arya, and she was close by...though, he'd lost her for a moment.

And then there were the firsties who complained about the Hat's decision. They tended to spoil the Feast for everyone, including themselves. Keefer had already heard Treyen dealing with some less-than-thrilled Puffs.
That's probably why Sierra took the train on her first year. The whole experience was good to have, especially at the beginning of a Hogwarts' education.
Hogwarts. Victoria wasn't coming back this year.
"I agree. It usually feels like forever while at the train...but the best part is meeting up with friends." Like at the feast, it was his favorite part about Hogwarts. Well, books and classes too, but that was only him.

AND...he raised an eyebrow. "The 'accidentally' part worries me." Truthfully. Because she was already considering things happening based on 'accidents'.

And she should probably put on her badge so they'd know she was their prefect.

Speaking of Puffs they had to be on their best for...
"Congratulations, Messer!" Arya grinned at the firstie. She hadn't been watching the sorting, never did look up to the dais except to check out the new professors really, but she wasn't surprised he was sorted Hufflepuff.
He was so sweet!
"You'll love our common room, it's the best." She was being a bit bias, especially considering that she'd never most of the others. "Oh! Do you know Treyen? He's our prefect and Head Boy." Arya nudged Treyen to look away from the others to her little Puff, vaguely aware that he'd also mentioned her name to another. She did so love Abraxans.
And what she said just had the opposite effect. Instead of nodding along to what Arya was saying....it kind of made him frown a tiiiiny bit. It also made him feel bad, honestly, because he wasn't being the best Hufflepuff at the moment.
"Yeah." Arya was right. Time to make amends, right?
And what better way than to greet the one Hufflepuff she'd been talking to, yes? "Hi, it's nice to meet you." He said, giving the kid a smile. Arya knew the boy, that was always a plus.

She didn't like the way he was acting towards her and she wasn't going to let him go down without a fight. It was easier for to speak and freak out at kids that were older than her than the ones her age or right around her age. She didn't know why but it just was.

Speaking of making amends.
"Actually, I'm the one who owes you an apology." Because in reality, Hadley would be less than proud about his behavior. Granted, she'd be less proud about the girl's behavior, but he was the one to set an example, after all.
And..., "You're right about that." The rudeness bit, at least.

His face turned to Alex now, and he laughed too. "I'm incredibly glad to hear that." Giving the former conversation about 'Keep Out' signs and whatnot.
"How was the summer, by the way?" What year was Alex in? Fourth? Fifth? Treyen kind of lost track...and the Greingoths did seem older for their age...at times. Like Sierra in Potions. And the way she talked around him. He'd never seen her with Victoria, though, that would probably change the way he sees her.
But Alex, he was the quiet one compared to Sierra, hence why he'd always looked older. And taller.
