The glittering night sky is clear and visible through the enchanted ceiling, and the floating candles bedeck the entire hall in a warm golden light. All seems well with the world, aside from the empty plates still waiting for food to appear.
Alec nodded. That probably showed that the older boy was... well, older. Most of the people he knew were really excited about this and they were in his year. Older kids were probably too used to it. But then again... this boy was starting fresh like him. Odd.
"Do you mind me asking why you're not sure?" he asked, trying to be as polite as possible. Maybe Alec could make this boy excited. Or maybe he just needed some time. "Yeah, i'm really excited!" he said, grinning, "Especially... about Quidditch! And maybe some classes! But mainly Quidditch and exploring the castle."
Oscar gulped down the rest of his pumpkin juice and listened to Alec. Quidditch! Oscar smiled, he looooooved Quidditch. He had forgotten that Hogwarts had real Quidditch competitions and all. Back home, he just played Quidditch in the yard with his brothers, but there was always the saaaaame winner, James <__<
Oscar shrugged. 'It was just fine being home schooled..' Oscar decided, also, he'd like for his grandpa to be better. Maybe he could go back home once he was better! So Alec seemed VERY excited. It was still school though. o_O 'Quidditch is fun.' Oscar said with a smile. 'We go to games all the time.'

Alyssa could tell that her efforts to be friends with Oscar were being rebuffed and she started to feel sad. But then she took a deep breath and thought to herself. 'Unfortunately, not everybody may want to be your friend, Lyssie. Even if they are Hufflepuffs. You just may have to accept that Oscar may be one of them.'. Alyssa was disappointed but she was learning to accept that not everything would turn out the way she wanted it to be. Even being friends with Oscar.
'Yes, Daisy seemed nice enough.' He smiled politely, apparently this girl wasn't too familiar with the castle either, so what use would it really be to have her show him around? Also, Daisy had covered her salad with ketchup. That was pretty cool.
Or Oscar thought so, at least. He would have to try it some time.

Laura looked around she didn't know anyway, Darwin wasn't a Hufflepuff he was a Ravenclaw so that was another friend in a different house and Amelia was Slytherin and a fifthed year, she had no idea what to do now, everything was so different and now she wouldn't have her sister there to help her well it was all part of growing up though if this was what growing up was about Laura was going to stay a kid until she was well at least 100 years old.
Oscar then saw someone who seemed... not too pleased with being a Hufflepuff. He made his way over and sat down next to her, he was pretty sure he felt the same, he was supposed to be in Slytherin, after all. 'Hello there, I'm Oscar.' He smiled and extended his hand to the girl, she seemed pretty lost right now. 'You're... not too pleased with Hufflepuff?' Maybe they'd settle in just fine in a while, but right now he'd rather be somewhere else.
she quickly looking up from her plate and saw a boy who she did not know, "that is ok no harm done" she smiled at him "so you looking forward to the new year" she started at her plate again, was she talking too much

Then when the eleven years old turned his gaze toward his still empty plate, he heard the boy speaks. So he can speak. "Oh. Okay." Well, as long the girl was okay. "Are you lost?" he couldn't help himself to ask. "Because if you do I'm sure the Professor would love to help you." he said.
And then...they were both talking to him. And looking at him. The boy was still eying him like he was some kind of freak and the girl was...smiling at him. Now who to answer first? "Good...good, sorry again." Lewis finally said quietly to the girl, before daring a quick glance at the younger boy. See? He actually WAS really sorry. "No. Not really." He replied truthfully without looking at either of them. He probably SHOULD be a little more optimistic about the upcoming term but he...just wasn't.
Was he LOST?! "I'm not supposed to be here." Oh. Lost as in that kind of lost. "Oh, I mean, no I'm not." Err, well, then his previous reply probably hadn't helped much in his cause of convincing the boy that he was in fact not lost. Then because the way the boy was still looking at him made him a little self-concious and nervous he added, more to himself than to the others, "At least I don't think so."
Oscar seemed slightly alarmed, catching up? But his mother had taught him everything he needed to know, he'd had his wand since he was 11. Everything had been just like it was at Hogwarts, or how he thought it was supposed to go.. 'Catching up? How so?' He stared at her salad, that looked... horrible.
He decided it was best not to mention the ketchup salad, and instead listened to her tell him she could show Oscar around and even sit next to her. Hufflepuff was looking better all the time.
'Thank you!' He took a sip of pumpkin juice and smiled. His smile faltered when Daisy asked why he had decided to come to Hogwarts now. 'Eh... My mother has to go take care of my grandfather.' Oscar stared at his pumpkin juice, hoping he wouldn't have to talk about this anymore.
Daisy saw Oscars alarmed face and smiled, 'not in lessons,' she said reassuringly, poking lettuce round her plate with a fork, 'getting to know the teachers, and other students, and mainly the building,' she laughed, 'I got lost so much in my first week!'
Seeing the way Oscar looked at her salad, Daisy supressed a giggle, 'you have to get used to my eating habits too though, although I don't really fancy this,' and with a tap of her wand, she cleared it away and added more chips to her plate. 'I like ketchup a little too much.'
So Oscar was here because his Mother had to look after her Grandfather? There had to be a little more to it than that, but Daisy attempted to shove it in the back of her mind. It was obvious he didn't want to talk about it, so she'd just have to train her curiousity. Thinking fast, she changed the subject. 'So, Oscar, are you into Quidditch?'

"I'm not rude, I'm busy." Enough said.
Jory scowled harder at the boy. "No, just you wait and see. They will keep you here, unfortunately.''

Nor was there any need for Ness to wink at him! O_O
O____O
What... was that for?! She was calling him cute! AND! She was pinching his cheeks! What?! No one called him cute! No one! And no one pinched his cheeks! Ever! Did Ness think he was a baby? "Erm, thank you Miss Ness," Who was starting to scare him slightly. "I guess it's a good thing we're in the same house then." At least he knew now that someone found him cute.
This Ness was an odd sort of girl. Her lips were forming into... a pout? Was that what it was? But he wasn't going to concentrate on her lips because that was on the borderline of being creepy. "Oh!" Now he knew he didn't have a big sign above his head saying 'firstie'. A third year? "Why does that have to be shocking?" He didn't expect her to be a third year. But the cheek pinching kind of acted on her year's favour. If she was a firstie, she wouldn't have done that. Maybe. "You're pretty nice for a third year."
This Alec seemed to be gentlemen too. How sweet! He'd definitelt be a good boyfriend one day, well to someone younger of course. Nessie grinned at him again, he was too kind. She knew for sure she didn't look good, she pouted again and then bit her lip. "You look better." she gave him another little wink. She remembered in her first year there were only two Hufflepuff boys, but now there seemed to be so many cute little boy firsties, well most of them were cute, not all.
After a few moments of pinching he's cheeks Ness realized what she was actually doing. She immediately let go and blushed a little. She sort of expected him to shout at her or have a hissy fit, like she would but all he did was thank her, what a gentleman! "Um..Sorry about that, I erm..get carried away." He was probably petrified of her now, which wasn't something she wanted him to be on his first day at Hogwarts. "Um..Miss Ness?" she raised her brow, nobody adressed her by Miss. "Yeah I guess it is, we're in the house of awesomeness." They really were. Hufflepuff was the best house ever.
How to explain to a firstie why third year was shocking? Hmmm...well basically she was just wasn't really ready to be in her third year. "Um...It's just scary to think I'm already in third year, it feels like only yesterday I was a firstie like you." She gave him a little grin. Nice? She was just being her usual self. "I am?" she asked doubting him a little.

One second, Nessie was just sitting as normal as anything, but then the next she felt somebody's armz go around her. She turned her head and saw one of her besties, Alyssa. "Oh..erm..well I'm here." she didn't understand why Lyssie was worried, they had seen eachother at Kings Cross hadn't they? She smiled either way and hugged Lyssie back.
As Ness pulled back from the hug, Lyssie obviously had to bring up summer again. It was like the a hundreth time she had been aszked about her summer, and she had really had enough of it. "Summer was okay." she said thinking she sounded like a broken record. "And how about you?" she asked.

He turned to see what had been the cause of this sudden chaos when he noticed a girl lying right on her back behind him, blushing in embarrassment. Whoops. Hufflepuff collision! He chuckled and reached out a hand to help her up.
"You alright?" he asked her.
Ness only now saw, that she had spilled the boys juice. She felt really bad, but before she could do anything he seemed to have fixed the mess on his own. Meh she was such a fail.
As the boy looked at her, she blushed even more. This was just too embarrasing. He must have thought she was the biggest freak ever. She put her hand over her face trying to hide, not that would help, but she did it anyways. Then afer a few seconds she peeked between then to see that he extended out a hand to help her up. Still blushing she took his hand and got up.
"Erm..yeah thanks." she said after fully recovering. This man was such a gentlemen. She sort of expected him to shout at her for bumping into him, but nope he was as kind as anything. "Sorry, about that." she said, her cheeks going back to normal.
Tate stood. "Students. I'd like to welcome you once again to Hogwarts for another exciting term. For those who read the Daily Prophet, you may have seen that we are celebrating an exciting anniversary this term, and your staff has been hard at work with some events that will help us feel the true spirit of all that Hogwarts has to offer. If you'd like to help us celebrate or you have any additional idea, please feel free to share them with me via owl."
With a gesture, Tate pointed out the new staff members spread out along the table. "We would like to welcome some new faces to the staff table, as well as the new faces we are welcoming to each house table. Please do not inundate their office with greetings, but I hope you will make them very welcome in the coming weeks. Remember what it is like to be new and offer them all your support."
And now... almost time to eat? "I don't have much more to say this term, aside from the usual... don't die. Eat your vegetables. Write to your parents, because they miss you. And... be kind to each other. We're all in this together. As you begin your meal, I'd like to invite Nimma the house elf to speak to you briefly." He figured they could now eat AND listen.
Oh, so this man seemed to be the Headmaster. Or so he hoped. At least he was holding a speech. And was seated right at the center of the staff dias. And he looked very important. Yes. Mainly that. So, he just HAD to be the Headmaster.
Daily Prophet? His dad had immediately subscribed to this newspaper but Lewis hadn't really read it. Hadn't really cared enough to read it. Now he really regretted not having done so. Well, he regretted it a little. But the upcoming events and stuff sounded quite cool. Maybe this term was going to be okay after all. Maybe even a little exciting. Maybe.
At the Headmaster's - what was his name? He was going to have to ask Kurumi next time he saw her - gesture, Lewis briefly let his eyes wander across the other professor's faces. Not that he knew who was old and who was new. They seemed...nice. Some of them did anyway. Some of them looked like they could be a little difficult like, say, set you on fire if you did anything to upset them.
DON'T DIE?!?!?!?!?!? Lewis eyes widened in shock at the Headmaster's words. Why would he bring that up? Was that common for Hogwarts? Did students just die here on a regular basis? What kind of place WAS this?!

She popped up on the staff table and gave some of the students some very very cross elf looks. Especially the cookie prefect. Nimma could make things very hard for the cookie prefect, she could! Nimma could make the cookie prefect not allowed to be in kitchens if cookie prefect did not go and eat and sit and listen like Master Head Master had said studentsies should do!
Nimma cleared her little throat.
"I have words for studentsies. A humble elf request for studentsies. Nimma and Tinka and Pips and Quirly and other elves have all worked very very hard this summer. Nimma says thank you and humbly asks for names to be put on papers and slipped under the kitchen door! Nimma thanks studentsies again! Nimma shall go now." She bowed and disapparated with a pop.
Lewis was still gaping at the Headmaster - though, completely unaware that he was - when all of a sudden a house elf appeared with an audible POP!. Aw, they allowed house elves during the feast here? That was nice. Though, the house elf didn't look too happy. No, it didn't look too happy at all. Following its gaze Lewis noticed that she was shooting daggers at certain students, including Kurumi. What was this house elf's problem?!
They had a...BABY ELF?! At this Lewis finally snapped his mouth shut and stared at the house elf instead. Nimma, was it? They asked them to come up with elf-names? Was this part of the fun events planned for this term the Headmaster had mentioned? If it was, he definitely liked it. A lot. He was going to put his thinking cap on first thing when he got to his Common Room.

Then the food appeared and Minerva decided to eat a little.

Amethyst giggled softly at Minerva. She remembered the little baby elf from last term. She was still curious as to how the baby got there, but she guessed there was a book on it somewhere. "I agree, Min!" She stretched a bit and ended up falling back on to the floor. She laughed at herself and got up, taking her seat back next to Justin. "No one...saw that.."

"Yes, I should probably send an owl, too. I guess I'll have to use one of the school owls."
Taps her spoon against her plate. "Do you have an owl of your own?"
"No, I don't. So, I think I'll use the owl school too but my parents promised me that they will buy an owl for me next year." she said.
She looked back to her food and played with it. Last meeting with her parents in the King Cross made her missed them. She wondered if her parents could effort everything she need for school and of course not a second hand thing again. Something new.
Yeah, her family was having a financial problem. You know work at Ministry it's not easy for an ex-Slytherin like her father. She sighed.
"I can't wait to attend class and do some spells." she talked to Gwen again.

Jory listened to the Headmaster's speech. Anniversary? Jory there and then decided he would subscribe to the Daily Prophet. He hadn't been in contact with the Wizarding World at all over the holiday. "The events would be exciting,'' he thought to himself as he turned his attention to the House-elf.

Jory listened o the elf. He had never seen a baby house elf but he highly doubted that the grown elves would want students bothering the infant. "Maybe I'll suggest a name," the boy thought as he made a mental note to write the name on a piece of paper and slip it under the Kitchen door.
Cool? Ness snorted at his comment a little. She supposed it was all cool to be big and grown up, but still each year the work got harder and harder and now that she was in her third year, the work would be pretty difficult. "You know what...I actually am, I think this will be a good year for me." She answered trying to be positive. Her first two years hadn't been easy at all, but everyone always said third time was a charm right? So hopefully her third year would be a charm. "You excited for your first year?" she asked. The first year at Hogwarts was supposed to be the most exciting and obviously the best, which it was for most people, but it wasn't really for Ness.
Nessie couldn't help but giggle as the Messer's cheeks went a little pink. He must have been embarrassed, but then so was she earlier. "Don't worry about it, my stomach has been.." there was a small pause and her stomach growled again. "..growling too." she continued and then burst into laughter. Her stomach wouldn't stop growling. "I'm not hungry, I'm starving." she said biting her lip.
Messer raised his eyebrows when he heard Nessie snorted to his comment. Huh? Why she's snorted? Is being a third year was so bad? "I hope you'll have a great year." he gave Nessie a big smile. "Yes, I'm very excited." his smiled turn into a grin. "I'm finally old enough to go here and I can't wait to try my new wand." he exclaim happily. "How was your first year here? Was it good?" the eleven years old asked.
He's pretty sure his cheek was still pink even though Nessie said its okay but its still embarrassing. Then he heard another growl but right now its not his tummy its actually come from the older girl. He couldn't help to laugh when he heard that noise. Well, at least he's not all alone. "I hope they'll serve the food soon." he grumbled.

"Yeah." Arya was right. Time to make amends, right?
And what better way than to greet the one Hufflepuff she'd been talking to, yes? "Hi, it's nice to meet you." He said, giving the kid a smile. Arya knew the boy, that was always a plus.

"Really?!" He can't wait to see the common room. If Arya said its the best then its the best common room even though he still wish that they have a tower "What's the common room look like?" he asked. Is it homey? Dark? He hope its not dark though.
"By the way Arya, which one is our Head of house?" he asked the prefect. The eleven years old was rather curious how their head of house look like.
Then Arya introduced him to the Hufflepuff prefect and head boy. [b]"How can someone be a head boy and a prefect at the same time?"[/b Its confused him. "Hi, its nice to meet you Mr. Head Boy. I'm Messer." the eleven years old smiled back.

Elf matters are important to elves and our elf matter is our Baby Elf. Our Baby Elf does not have a name, and our Baby Elf does not like names that Nimma and other elves have chosen! Nimma asks students respectfully to help Nimma and other elves name our Baby Elf. Nimma would please invite students to make name suggestions and Nimma and other elves shall make a big list of names and all names can be picked and chosen from a big list and studentsies can choose the name! This is a big special honor bestowed by elves, studentsies." She bowed furiously. "Nimma thanks studentsies for helping last year and Nimma would like help now too. Nimma says thank you and humbly asks for names to be put on papers and slipped under the kitchen door! Nimma thanks studentsies again! Nimma shall go now." She bowed and disapparated with a pop.
Then suddenly all the chatter was gone when the headmaster stood an began his speech. What? What anniversary? He's not very fond of reading especially Daily Prophet. He always think that that paper was a reading material for an old man/woman. With those boring articles and stuffs.
Don't die? Eeeeppp! That's creepy. He didn't want to die in his first year. Eat your vegetables?! Really? Now the headmaster sounds like his nanny. Write to your parents? Hmph! He was sure that his father won't miss him that much. Yes finally the meal! FOOD!
Wait did he say HOUSE ELF?! Messer almost fall from his seat when the headmaster mentioned a house elf. Then out of no where the little creature popped in from Merlin know where.
O___________O
Suddenly the plate and table were really interesting to him. He's poking his plate hoping to distract himself from the house elf. He can feel his hand begin to sweat. Oh please make it go away! A baby elf?! Oh. Can his day get any worst then this?! He made a note to not visit the kitchen unless its necessary!

Minerva giggled a bit when Ame fell backwards. "See what?" she tried to put on a serious look, but struggled to keep from laughing.
Thank Merlin the girl was alright. She could be hurt because the boy was like twice her size. "Are you sure you alright?"Because if she's not they could like sue the boy "Hello, I'm Messer by the way." he introduce himself to the girl. "Are you a first year too?" because she look like one.
Huh? He's not supposed to be here? "So are you saying you're lost?" he asked. Then the older boy said he's not. Now he was confused. Was he's lost or not? Okay seriously this boy need to make up his mind whether he's lost or not because his brain can't take anymore confusing thought.

When the boy insisted on making sure the girl was okay - she had SAID she was, hadn't she?! - Lewis glanced at her too. She definitely SEEMED to be alright, and it wasn't like he had hit her over the head with a plate or something. And then he was talking to her. See? He accidentally bumped into somebody and that resulted into that somebody and ANOTHER person to start a conversation. And as always he was not part of the conversation. What was wrong with him?!
Oh wow. The first year - yes, it wouldn't have been impossible NOT to overhear - was talking to him again. And confusing him all the more. "No. No, I'm not. I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to sit here." For emphasis he pointed at his plate. "Err, well, not here per se, but...you know." He trailed off quietly, and picked up his fork to trail random patterns on his plate.
Weird person, insisting he was lost.
He looked back up when the speeches were given and happened to glance at Messer - again, he was very good at overhearing things - who looked downright terrified about something. Even though it was very unlike him, Lewis figured it would be quite rude to ignore it so he leaned forward slightly and whispered - so as to not interrupt the elf's speech, "You okay?" Did he need the Healer or something? Did he have a panic attack?!

Hearing forks clatter against plates, it was only then that he noticed that the food had arrived. After a quick glance at the girl next to him to make sure she was indeed okay, Lewis reached out to put some potatoes onto his plate.
Hopefully the elves were just as good cooks as the ones back home.
Jesifur had been famished, she barely heard the sorting hat or anything else for that matter. She was concentrating hard on the table before her willing the food to exist. "As soon as it appears," she thought, "I'm digging in." Her stomach growled noisily. She set her head down on the edge of the long table and sighed heavily.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
It took Jory a few moments to realise the food had appeared. "Finally," he said as his stomach made a soft growling sound. Looking around at the wide variety of foods, he decided on some potato salad and baked chicken. He piled his plate and began to eat, trying not to gobble the food down.
He smiled," Have you not been to Durmstrang before?"
"I can't tell you where it is....but one thing for sure, it is very cold there and you have to wear winter clothes most of the time...and the food there isn't as nice like the food offer here,"he said kindly.
"I'd love to go. I wouldn't mind the cold, I'm more of a winter person anyway."
[\QUOTE]
Gwen tried to remember whether or not she'd bought parchment at Diagon Alley. She could be awfully forgetful.
"I only have a cat. His name is Pickles."
Gwen raises her eyebrows, smirking a little.
"Don't ask, my sister him that name."
"I'd love to go. I wouldn't mind the cold, I'm more of a winter person anyway."
"That is good to hear...you would like the snowy mountains too...and a big ice lake where you can skate to your heart content, "Gustav told her. He wanted her to know the wonderful side of his school too.
"There is snow everywhere...and during quidditch season, is the most exciting event there,"he said. However he didn't like flying as much on his broomstick in the icy cold weather.

Alyssa reassured Jessie,"Oh that person eventually gets sorted. It just takes a little longer but the Sorting Hat will eventually place you in a house. I've also heard that the Hat takes into account what house the student prefers."
Jessie looked puzzled. "The hat will ask you which house you want to be in? But what if it asks you and you don't belong?" Jessie would hate to end up in a house she didn't belong in, a house like Slytherin. She shuddered.

Just then, the Headmaster stood. He seemed like a very nice man...but he made odd speeches. Don't die? Naming a baby house elf? What went on here last year?? Jessie wondering if there was something she needed to know...but first things first. FOOD!

She looked at Minerva and smiled. "No Midnight snack for you, Doll? I'm sure I won't be able to sleep tonight, so I'll end up going to get a late night snack." She pulled out some parchment and a quill, to write down some possible 'orders'.

Ella struggle to listen to the headmaster as he spoke as her hunger was making it extremely hard to focus. She was excited to feast and she was anxious to continue talking with new friends. She smiled at another girl who had said she was also interested in quidditch. When the other students began to chat again, Ella smiled. "The Chudley Canons are really good too. I can't wait til quidditch starts up and we can watch!"Maybe even play...she thought to herself with a smile. "I'm Ella, by the way!"

In between mouthfuls of food, Jessie introduced herself to Ella. "I can't wait, either! I might go to try-outs, but I haven't decided yet." She took a sip of pumpkin juice. Mmmm! This stuff was even better than she'd heard!
Turning back to Sophie and Ella, Jessie asked, "So what do you think Professor Tate meant by 'don't die,'? Is there a way we can die here? I mean, isn't Hogwarts supposed to be the safest place?"
