Entering the common room through the same corridor as the kitchens the kitchens, you will find a pile of large barrels stacked in the shadowy stone recess to your right. The second barrel from the bottom, middle of the second row, will open when tapped to the enunciation of 'Helga Hufflepuff'. (*Note: non-Hufflepuffs who tap the wrong barrel, or the incorrect number of times, will result in one of the lids bursting off and dousing the trespasser in vinegar)

Following a sloping, earthy passage inside the barrel, which will then travel upwards slightly, a cozy, round, low-ceilinged room comes into view. Welcome! Your common room is like your sanctuary. During your seven years here, your house will be like your family. The room is decorated in the cheerful house colors of yellow and black, enhanced by the use of highly polished honey-colored wood for the tables and then round doors which lead to the boys' and girls' dormitories.

Directly over the wooden mantelpiece, which is covered with carvings of decorative dancing badgers, is a portrait of Helga Hufflepuff, your house founder and one of the four Hogwarts founders, toasting her students with a tiny, two-handled golden cup. There are small, round windows level with the ground at the foot of the castle, showing a pleasant view of grass and flowers, occasionally people. As a result of the low windows, the room has a year-round sunny feel to it.

Alec climbed into the common room, the usual grin not visible on his face. He couldn't help but think about Anya and what her situation was like right now. She was hurt and now that all that stuff has happened with her brother...

It was a good thing Keefer was coming back to hold practices soon.

... The game. That was another thing on his mind. The upcoming game against the Claws. Last time, he had just narrowly beaten the Claw Captain, who knows what could happen now.

Alec ruffled his hair slightly as he made his way towards one of the seats and flopped down. After the day he had, all he needed was to rest... or have some company. Or some gummy bears! Either of those would be fine with him.

Avery climbed down the stairs slowly from the girls dormitory, she was bored out of her mind and couldn't think of anything to do. She was still new at Hogwarts, even though she was in her fourth year and she didn't have many friends to hang around with.

Then her face lit up as she noticed Alec! She walked over to the seat he was in and sat on him. She was only marginally taller than him, with her being a very tiny little Puffle..

Laura walked into the common room and smiled as she saw the Person she wanted to speak to, she stormed upto him and said calmly. Nate looked up at Laura who gave him a hairy eye. "What are you talking about?" Nate was confused. Was it something he did. Laughing at her. When was he ever laughing at her for being scared. Nate nev-. Ohhh that Nate thought. He would just keep on trying to bluff her until she knew that he was lying.

I'm good thank you Alec, what about you?" She asked, looking Alec in the eyes. When she had come over to him he had appeared to be in deep thought and she hoped to find out what he had been thinking about.

Avery didn't know Anya, but she was worried for Alec he did seem really worried about her. Avery hugged Alec tight again as another tear fell down her cheek.

Alec's smile widened slightly as he looked at Avery. That has to be one of the wisest things anyone has said to him. Or... it was one of those things that truly sunk in. "Thanks, really," he said, "That's really smart of you, you know."

Alec let out a chuckle at the way Avery nodded at his question. Only someone who was excited about Quidditch could nod like that. Really. But this made him feel slightly happier. He now had something else he could talk to Avery about. "You're right," he said, "So if you could play any position, which one would it be? And why?"

... WHAT?! Avery was in hospital for four years? FOUR YEARS?! "Why were you in hospital?" he whispered, tightening his hold around the girl on his lap. He hoped she wouldn't mind him asking something like that.

Alec smiled. This is why he liked the house he was in. Everyone seemed to be really really nice here and that's all he could have asked for in his first year at Hogwarts. "Thanks!" he said, "The Healer's meant to be really good." That last bit was just added randomly.

"Yeah, I'd come to you and tell you to stop studying so hard," he said, "And you'd have to eat everything at the picnic to make up for all that studying." That was his big plan.

Adeline walked gracefully into the Common Room. She had finally found her glasses and she was still trying to figure out how she found them when she is blind without them. She really needed to talk her mother into buying her contacts though her mother hates her already so lets not give her another reason to hate her. Adeline looked around the room and all of a sudden her face was plastered with a silly grin. Maybe it wouldn't be so hard to makes friends. According to Alec she was nice, sweet and some other stuff. So why couldn't people be friends with anyone? Because she didn't want to get close to anyone for the fear of being hurt and for the fear that her mother or father would hate that person.

But the issue so far is that they hate Alec. Was it because Alec is a boy? There isn't anything wrong with boys. She knew the whole cooties thing was a fake that most parents would make up to make sure that their children would have that many friends. That's just so rude and mean to do to your child. Why would parents do that?

It's like the whole Santa Claus, Easter Bunny and many other myths that they do to give their children presents. There is no reason for mythical creatures like that to be made up and then in the end when you tell the child that they don't exist they get all mad and start crying and this their parents are lying to them.

Adeline shook her head. She wondered why she was thinking like that. Why she was thinking what she was thinking. It w as odd of her to think about something like that. She looked around once more and the silly little grin disappeared from her face. She knew she wasn't able to make any friends at all not even her own kind...Hufflepuff.

She sighed and smiled while thinking, then she added, "I'd probably be a keeper if I wasn't a chaser, but whenever I've played as keeper at home I'm really good at it!"

It was strange him asking that, normally people would delicately skip over the topic and then leave her, like some people did just before she had returned to Hogwarts, she didn't at all mind him asking actually. "I..umm, had some sort of cancer, one that you can recover from. But the doctors say it can come back and if it does, it could..." she trailed off, she was going to say that it could kill her, but she didn't want to scare Alec, who was now squeezing her tight.

"That's good then!" She said. Avery hoped Alec's friend would recover quickly, she didn't like seeing Alec upset, it made her upset.

"Haha, what if I was in the girls dormitory? You're not telling me you go and get me from there, are you?" She said, teasing the younger boy..maybe this is what it felt like to have a little brother, though in a way, she felt much younger than she was and he seemed older, they seemed like twins. Maybe she would mention it, if he wasn't already thinking the same thing.

Then Avery realised she was still sat on Alec's knee. "You comfortable there?" She said lightly, "I can get up if I'm annoying you or making your legs no numb?" She smiled at him and started to get up.

And with the way Avery was saying this... it wasn't very nice to have it. GULP! "I'm so sorry, Avery," he whispered, giving her a small hug, "And this isn't something magic can fix?" He thought magic could fix everything...

Yeah... that was something he hadn't thought through. What if she was in the girl's dorm? How would be bring her out? And then something came to him. "I'll get a girl to go in there and drag you out," he said, grinning up at her, "You won't be able to hide from me."

Was he comfortable? "Yeah, I am," Not that he usually had girls sit on his laps. But yes, this was comfortable. ... What? Get up? "No, stay!" And with that, Alec took hold of her hand and pulled her down gently. There.

Yeah... that was something he hadn't thought through. What if she was in the girl's dorm? How would be bring her out? And then something came to him. "I'll get a girl to go in there and drag you out," he said, grinning up at her, "You won't be able to hide from me."

Was he comfortable? "Yeah, I am," Not that he usually had girls sit on his laps. But yes, this was comfortable. ... What? Get up? "No, stay!" And with that, Alec took hold of her hand and pulled her down gently. There.

Avery listened to what Alec had to say. "You really think so?" She smiled, smiling crookedly at him. "I've never really thought about it, with me only just getting back to Hogwarts. Is it hard?" She said, thinking long and hard. It would be so cool to be on the Quidditch team with Alec. She laughed, "Yeah I do. It was one thing I always wanted since I was about one, so when my parents found out I had cancer they made it, though it was a year before I went to hospital. They made it with magic of course. We own a lot of land."

"It's alright, Alec." She said in a soothing tone, and she stroked his hair, she could tell he was worried about her, because of course he'll only have heard rumors about it. "No, magic can't fix it. I think it's something to do with Muggles and their blood, the reason it can't be fixed simply."

"Awh, you'd do that for me?" She asked, he was so sweet to her almost like a brother. She grinned down at him again and fluffed up his hair. "You sure? Heavy old me sat on your lap?" As she started to get up she was pulled right back down and back into Alec's lap. She looked at Alec and laughed lightly.

That and the fact that Quidditch is a sport! As for Avery's next question... "Erm, it can be," He wasn't exactly going to lie to her. "But you have lots of fun with it." And they shared a lot of jokes with everyone! Happy times!

So Avery did have her very own Quidditch pitch! Alec gulped slightly at the 'cancer' talk but decided not to concentrate on that. "Wow!" he said, "You know, you can play Quidditch anytime." She probably already knew that. And by magic!

Alec smiled slightly as Avery stroked his hair. It felt nice whenever people touched his hair. But they weren't talking about his hair. Nope! "Oh," he whispered, looking down at his hands and then back up at Avery, "Is there any way to make it go away forever?" He wasn't going to lose Avery. No. It wasn't happening.

"Yeah, of course!" he said, grinning as she fluffed up his hair, "We could have a nice picnic out in the grounds." They could have a lot of food out there! And it can be sunny! "You're not heavy!" She was pretty light for someone who was three years older than him.

"Yeah, it's really great! Maybe you could come over in the holidays some time and we could have a mini game between us" She said, getting excited. It had been a while since she actually had a good friend. Actually Alec was her best friend at the moment, she thought smiling down at the boy.

Avery sighed and looked helplessly down at Alec. "I wish there was, but unfortunately there isn't, nobody wizard or muggle has worked out a total cure." She reached and grabbed onto Alec's hand and squeezed it gently, "Don't worry Alec, I'm not going to get ill again, I hope." The doctors had told her it was quite a low chance that she would get the cancer again, but still the possibility was there.

"Thanks Alec!" She said, grinning at him, "that would be great!" She was genuinely happy about this and wondered if and when it would happen. "Suuure I'm not." She chuckled hugging her knees up to her chest, while she sat on Alec's lap.
