Entering the common room through the same corridor as the kitchens the kitchens, you will find a pile of large barrels stacked in the shadowy stone recess to your right. The second barrel from the bottom, middle of the second row, will open when tapped to the enunciation of 'Helga Hufflepuff'. (*Note: non-Hufflepuffs who tap the wrong barrel, or the incorrect number of times, will result in one of the lids bursting off and dousing the trespasser in vinegar)
Following a sloping, earthy passage inside the barrel, which will then travel upwards slightly, a cozy, round, low-ceilinged room comes into view. Welcome! Your common room is like your sanctuary. During your seven years here, your house will be like your family. The room is decorated in the cheerful house colors of yellow and black, enhanced by the use of highly polished honey-colored wood for the tables and then round doors which lead to the boys' and girls' dormitories.
Directly over the wooden mantelpiece, which is covered with carvings of decorative dancing badgers, is a portrait of Helga Hufflepuff, your house founder and one of the four Hogwarts founders, toasting her students with a tiny, two-handled golden cup. There are small, round windows level with the ground at the foot of the castle, showing a pleasant view of grass and flowers, occasionally people. As a result of the low windows, the room has a year-round sunny feel to it.

Evelyn smiled as she saw a younger girl greet Treyen. For some reason, the girl seemed a little uncomfortable to see her there..which was weird since she didn't the girl at all.
"Hey Glenn." Evelyn said with a warm smile. "I'm Evelyn Wellington. Nice to meet you."
Glenn felt herself relax slightly, this girl seemed nice. She shifted in her seat so that her legs were pulled up to her chest and said, "Nice to meet you too Evelyn!" Her greeting was genuine, she smiled and glanced at Evelyn.

When Minerva said something about getting a prefect, Sophie was the first to get up. "I'll go get Treyen!" she had spotted him with Glenn and Ella by the fireplace when she came in the Common Room.
She ran up to the Head Boy, once again asking for help. Sophie have watched a bad experience when a firstie tried to help other students on their first day at Hogwarts, she wouldn't dare doing the same thing. At least not that soon.
"Treyen!" again, not a good time to call him by his nickname. "Nate is acting weird on the floor over there!" she pointed at where Minerva and Justin where. "There's something wrong about that notebook and instruments of his..." she looked at where the other two badgers were, with a concerned expression on her face.
Glenn heard Sophie calling to Treyen and stood up from her comfy spot by the fire, "Soph! What's wrong?" She said, before her eyes fell on Nate. She gasped, "What's happened?"
She hovered by her chair as she watched what was going on, not quite sure what to do as the older students took care of what was happening.

Alyssa was sitting at the fireplace when she notice all the commotion that was going on behind her. She first saw Treyen talking to somebody, and then Minnie joining him as they leaned over that person, and then she saw Treyen carry the person and Alyssa realized that it was NATE!!
"What happened to Nate,"Alyssa asked the girl who had been watching too. "Are they taking him to the Hospital Wing?" Alyssa remembered the Hospital Wing too well. She would have gone with Treyen and Minerva to the Hospital Wing with Nate right now, if it wasn't for the fact that the last time she was there, she ended up getting punished by the Healer and sent to detention. Maybe she would go and visit Nate later on when things were calmer and he was resting up.
Poor Nate this would also be his second visit to see the Healer. The first time, he ended up losing 10 points. This time he was the one being seen. She hoped that he hadn't tried to cast a spell on himself this time.
Alyssa then realized that she had totally forgotten the girl who she had been speaking to. "Oh I'm sorry for blanking out for a minute. I've seen you in Arithmancy and Charms class but never had the opportunity to hi to you. My name is Alyssa and it's finally nice to meet you, albeit under strange circumstances." Alyssa said to the girl sticking out her hand to shake hers.

"I don't know," Glenn said, "I think he was using some sort of musical instrument or something and then..." And then what? Something happened.
"Yes, I think they're taking him to the Hospital Wing." Glenn confirmed, watching as Treyen carried Nate away out of the common room.
She hadn't been to the Hospital Wing before, though from what Sophie had told her, she didn't particularly want to go there very soon.
Glenn looked at the girl as she introduced herself, dragging her eyes away from the commotion, "I've seen you too," She said, "Hello Alyssa, I'm Glenn" Glenn shook the girls hand, nodding in agreement to the strange circumstances that they were meeting in.

Now that Nate had drank some water, Treyen took the boy in his arms and..., "Try to keep your eyes open, please," he said, whispering to the boy, before leaving the Common Room.
And, yeah, there will be blood on his robes, but he cared very little for that right now.
Minerva shook her head and looked at the instrument. She was terrified of that thing and wasn't sure how to pick it up. Minerva went over and emptied her bag. "Justin can you keep my books and the calming potion for me until I get back?" She then put the instrument quickly in her bag and the notebook. "Ok Treyen I have it, let's go."

Amethyst got up and sat across from Justin, Saber shivering in her lap. "That was..." She didn't have words to describe what had just happened. She kissed Saber's head, hoping he'd calm down.

Ella watched with wide eyes as Treyen gave Nate some water and insisted on taking him to the hospital wing. She was glad that a healer was going to see the first year because he looked pretty bad. She was still quite confused as to what had happened to the poor kid but decided to stay seated, a concerned expression on her face. Never a dull moment at Hogwarts... she thought to herself with a sigh.

Sophie was still watching as everything happened really fast. Nate was quiet but seemed always to be getting into some kind of trouble. "Blimey!" She thought, hoping he would be okay.
Turning around to face Glenn and Alyssa, Sophie shook her head. "I don't know what happened exactly. I was coming to talk to you guys..." She looked from Glenn to Ella "...then I saw Nate lying on the floor, emotionless!" she said frowning and looking back at the place where she had seen Nate. "Then a notebook started flipping through its pages by itself and Justin and Minerva tried reading it and playing the freaky instrument to wake him up or something, but the song seemed to make things worse and in the next second there were cuts and blood all over Nate's arm!" her eyes were wide opened as she explained. "That is a dangerous instrument, that is!"

"Hi Sophie. It is very scary what just happened here. I'm still shaking myself. I was here with Glenn when things started happening. But I didn't think that it would end up with Nate going to the hospital. He was reading his Herbology book. Then he picked up his instrument and played something out of his notebook. I managed to catch a glance of the words to one of the pages he was playing and it was kinda weird and eerie because it talked about death. Then all of a sudden he started acting weird and then he went into a trance." Alyssa was equally alarmed as her friends. From what she had just seen happen here, it looked downright scary. But she was puzzled by how it happened. Was it the words in his notebook or the instrument? Or was it a combination of both that caused this to happen to Nate? Why would Nate have something in his possession that would cause him harm? Alyssa didn't want to alarm the others more than they already were, so she kept her thoughts to herself.
"I'm sure that Treyen will inform the Headmaster and Professor Hadley what happened here, once he has taken Nate to the Healer. The Healer will know what to do. Oh! I hope she does. Poor Nate! He definitely didn't deserve this to happen to him. Nobody does."

Glenn stood, silent, as Alyssa and Sophie talked about Nate and his instrument. It really creeped her out, that an instrument could do so much damage to someone, she shuddered, "Do you think they'll start looking through our mail to check that nothing comes through like that again?" Glenn asked them, she didn't want to have to mind everything she said when she sent mail, but then again, it would be better than being hurt.
"I'm just glad Treyen was here," Glenn said, "I don't know what we would've done if he hadn't been there to sort everything out."
Alyssa took the box from Daisy. "Thanks, Daisy. I love Bertie Botts's candies...and remember it's the thought that counts. So thank you for my birthday gift."Alyssa reached over to give her friend a hug.
"So you let Aaron win? Oh shoot, now he's going to be bragging about it for the next few months. You should have sneezed all over him, like I did the last time we played. It was funny because I didn't really mean to do it, but just seeing my snot on his face, sent me into giggles. Well at least even though I didn't win in that one, neither did he." Alyssa laughed.
'Awww, no problem,' Daisy smiled, glad she'd cheered her friend up a little.
'If he does,' she grinned, 'i'll whack him over the head with my beaters bat. I threaten my brother with that.' Daisy winked, yawning loudly and thinking of home. 'You sneezed on him?' she laughed out loud... 'bet he took that well.'

Daisy leaned over to a few other girls who were talking together; they seemed to know more about the boy that had just left the common room looking very ill. She had only been half watching, and wasn't really sure what was going on.
'What happened to that boy?' she asked concernedly, leaning into the conversation, 'is he ok? He's only a first year... thank goodness Treyen was here.'

Ian shuffled out of the boys dorm rooms as he sleepily tried to rouse himself from the land of dreams. He'd had an odd one about the lake and some large squid like creature in it. He'd heard tales of it being in the Hogwarts lake, but coming from the coast of Wales wondered if it could be true. He didn't think it would be warm enough to support a giant squid. Of course this was a magical place, so perhaps the water wasn't nearly as cold as the environment would suggest.
He walked over and noticed that something seemed to have happened, but he didn't know any of the people left around and wasn't curious enough to ask. Of course no one noticed him as he took one of the nice, squishy chairs by the fireplace. It reminded him of home and he'd thought about trying to find some chestnuts to toast, but hadn't. He pulled out a large book that looked very much like the one his mum had bought in that shop in London and began to search the pages for anything to help him understand his new life better.

Sophie's eyes widened even more. "They talked about death??" she shivered when spoke. "That thing must've been cursed or something... it's the only reason it acted that way!" at least that Sophie was aware of... "Healer Tillstorm will know what to do!" she actually trusted the nurse now. "Professor Tate wouldn't let her be our healer if she wasn't good enough." she nodded twice while saying this.

He was about to go back to his book when she smiled and decided to plunge into a conversation. He smiled back and shrugged. "It's ok. I've just gotten here and so I haven't really made an opinion of anything." Truthfully, he missed home and his mum's cooking and being able to even fight with his brothers. And so he was quite lonely for now.
As for classes, he wasn't the best student so anything he attempted had gone a bit wrong. "No...I haven't a favorite class yet. They all turn out about the same for me." He was a bit overwhelmed some days by the work and the newness and all that was going into his new life here at Hogwarts.
"What about you?" he asked, curious how she would answer.

'Poor kid though...' Daisy said, looking at the common room door he'd exited from... 'all from a musical instrument... I'm definitely gonna be more careful with my post,' she nodded, 'but at least Treyen helped,' she said, smiling slightly. She herself would've been rubbish in that kind of situation, but Treyen wouldn't lose his head or start panicking... and the boy could surely be fixed up fine by a healer, but it must've been a big shock.
'Nice to meet you Glenn and Sophie,' Daisy smiled, waving back at Sophie and shaking Glenn's hand. 'I'm a third year, what about you two?'

Messer first attempt to look for the female prefect was in their common room but she wasn't there. He frowned but then he realized that he hasn't wrap his gift yet. When you want to give someone a give you should wrap it, right. He remembered that he has a simple wrapping paper on his bag. Messer just hoped that the wrapping paper not get wrinkled. Because if its wrinkled he didn't know any spell to unwrinkled it. But Thank Merlin it doesn't. Quickly he wrapped his present.
Now, what to do. He didn't know where to find Arya, maybe he just need to wait here in the common room. They share a common room after all so he does that. While waiting for his female prefect, he took his Quidditch magazine and start reading it.

Arya tumbled gracefully out of the barrel and into the common room, landing on her feet, ice cream in her hands completely unaltered. Clearly she'd done this before. Bouncing a little to shake the old satchel back into place, she started into the common room eyes wandering.
Where was Perseus?
That kneazle of hers knew she'd be back around this time for a break from everything but her lunch. Today that was ice cream. But oh look there was Messer!
"Messer, hi!" She grinned at the ickly firstie while trying not to cover herself in the frozen dairy product, legs carrying her over to the kid. Maybe Perseus would hear her voice and stop whatever he was doing to come keep her company. "What are you reading?"

Sophie thought Ian's answer was kind of weird. She had loved everything about Hogwarts since her first day! They were there for over a month now and the boy hadn't made up his mind about the school yet? Sophie thought that was really weird. She noticed he looked kind of... sad, maybe? Why wasn't he excited about the school?? "Maybe he's homesick or something... Poor thing." she thought, giving him a warm smile. "I'm sure you're going to start loving Hogwarts pretty soon!" Who doesn't love Hogwarts, really? "I've loved it since our first feast! Everything's so great and awesome!" Her eyes twinkled and she bounced a little on the chair as she spoke.
Once again, Sophie blinked as the boy answered her question about the classes. Yeah, he surely was sad or whatever about something. Sophie started to worry a little. Why, whyyy wasn't he excited about the school?? She frowned a little before answering his question, but kept a little smile on her face. "I do love Transfiguration and Herbology!" And Charms and Flying! Heh. She had fun in all of those classes so far. The only one she didn't enjoy that much was Care of Magical Creatures, when they had to go into the Black Lake. That freaked the heck out of her. Aaanyways. "What are you reading there?" she tried looking at the cover of the book he was holding.

Sophie turned her head around and smiled up at the older girl. "I'm a first year!" she said happily. "What's your name?" She didn't think the girl had said it. Or Sophie hadn't heard if she did.
Amethyst got up and sat across from Justin, Saber shivering in her lap. "That was..." She didn't have words to describe what had just happened. She kissed Saber's head, hoping he'd calm down.
Justin saw that poor Saber was upset with the situation. So, he alked over to Amethyst and pet Sir Saber. " do you want me to hold him for a bit, Ame? "

Ian saw the excitement in her face and body as she excitedly talked about Hogwarts. He wished he'd felt the same, but he was rather stuck to his old life, even if it wasn't the greatest. He really wished he could talk to his mum more. He really missed her, but he also knew how proud she was that he was getting to come here and learn how to live with his 'gift' as she called it. He tried to be excited, but it was tough for him. That and he hadn't really met anyone yet and all these kids seemed to be so attached to one another. He smiled just a little bit as she did describe it. The Hogwarts she described was wonderful.
He saw her blink and frown and he was a bit fearful that he had upset her by not having a favorite class. He did like the classes, but there was a lot to adjust to. Then she talked about her favorite classes. He did sort of enjoy herbology and the care of magical creatures. He was hoping to see the giant squid that was talked about. When she asked about the book he was reading, he held it up. It was titled, "Magical Britain. The legends of magic in the British Isles." He went on to explain. "Mum had this book at home, so when we were searching for textbooks, I happened upon it and thought I'd get a copy to see what she was reading" He wondered if she thought him odd.

Ian seemed to be so nice but she had never even seen him around. Was he locking himself up in the boy's dorm and being there by himself while everybody else was bonding and having fun? Oh, no! Sophie felt sad for him. She didn't even know if her thoughts were right, but if they were... "Hey, why don't you join us whenever we go for a walk or something? You can get to know the school better!" That should make him like Hogwarts! What a brilliant idea! Sophie was already feeling a bit better.
She leaned forward when Ian held up his book. "Magical Britain. The legends of magic in the British Isles." She looked at him again. "That sounds interesting!" Not the kind of book Sophie would read, though, but Ian didn't need to know that. She smiled again. "Is your mum a witch?"

Minerva walked into the common room and found that their seat was open. She sat down placing her bag next to the chair. Sitting down she closed her eyes and relaxed waiting for Justin to come in.
