The Headmaster's office was a remarkably tidy place. The desk was devoid of the normal office-related hodgepodge, empty of stacks of papers and quill nubs spilling from desk drawers. It was especially odd considering the former occupant of this office.
Spread across the room were a few signs as to the disposition of the man in question. Heavy coffee mugs and steins perched atop one bookshelf, the shelves beneath lined with travel guides, language books, and Dark Magic and defense tomes. A few photographs of the Headmaster and people of varying nationalities sat on a low shelf behind his desk, under the large window that often hung open to the grounds.
The only real oddity in the office, or the only one in plain site, was a foe glass. The contents were murky, although occasionally faces rose to the surface that looked vaguely familiar, but it disappeared before recognition. The Headmaster mostly ignored it.
You absolutely may not enter this office unless given the password or given access by the Headmaster. If you RP yourself here without following instructions, your post will be unceremoniously deleted.

"Yes, by all means... go ahead and do your measurements and things," Tate waved a hand at that. Why in the world hadn't Roslund just handled this himself? Why did it require input from someone who didn't have a clue whether he was looking at a star, a planet, or a Muggle satellite?
Strange, strange man.
"Perhaps we should confer with Thereos. He's much more likely to know whether a heavenly body portends something particular. To be frank, I'm tempted to call it a coincidence, but I'm no expert."

It took all of Kurumi's composure to control her giggles at the Headmaster's response. Things. Hehe. Clearly, one of the Headmaster's strengths while in school hadn't been Astronomy. "I'll inform Professor Roslund that you gave us permission," Kurumi nodded. Well, that hadn't been too difficult.
Kurumi's eyes widened a bit at the Headmaster's next suggestion. "If Thereos would be willing to do so," she nodded excitedly. Jonathan's boggart may have been a centaur, but Kurumi's was faaaaaaaar from it. Perhaps it is a coincidence, but it had been this little lioness' experience that nothing in the wizarding world was ever what it had seemed. This probably meant that she was just getting her hopes up, but nothing wrong with dreaming big.

Coincidence his left foot.
Auggie looked from the Professor then to Kurumi to see how she would react to this recent change in momentum of the excitment over their discovery. She seemed to accept it ok, August still expected more. Oh well.
"Well Thereos would probably know more about all of this, after Professor Roslund." The Gryffindors would just have to go find him it seemed. "Where do you think we could find him, sir?" He asked promptly, they needed to get the centaur's ideas so they could hurry and publish whatever it is they needed to do. Did the centaur hold a study here in the Castle or was he in the Forbidden Forest?

"You could try the Forest, or you could send him an owl, I suppose. I don't really have much control over Thereos, being a centaur and ruled by stars and things entirely out of my control. But if you can catch him and squeeze a straight answer out of him, then you'll find the answer to your comet." He gave the boy a look for his grumpiness, but he didn't feel it was worth chastising. They'd been excited about their discovery, and Tate knew he'd been remarkably unhelpful.

Try the forest? MEEP! Did that mean that her and August had permission to go IN there? Kurumi swallowed hard and glanced at the younger lion next to her. "Sir, does that mean you are...giving us permission to go into the Forbidden Forest?" They needed to go with someone, right? Maybe Professor Roslund?
She tugged on the sleeve of her sweater a bit and shuffled her feat. Owling a centaur seemed like one of the stranger things to do. Did centaurs even accept owls? This could end up being a total win win situation for the prefect. Not only would she be learning about the comet, but there was a chance she would also learn about Centaurian civilization!

The Forbidden Forest!? But it was Forbidden....cool. Auggie had stood on it's edges a few times looking into it, debating on whether or not to step in a few times but obviously didn't because of it being a rule and all. But they might get to actually go in?
"Headmaster, I wonder if the forest would be the more comfortable place for Thereos to meet with us. So we don't force him to come up to the Castle ans stuff." That, and he wanted to go into the place so bad. The younger lion tried not to sound too excited.

"Well, along the perimeter at the least. I would send a message to him first, and if he asks you to meet him in the forest, I'll go with you," Tate agreed. Hopefully, Thereos would remember the students couldn't go wandering off on their own, but centaurs saw the world differently.

Kurumi nodded and attempted to remain calm, but the smile on her lips betrayed her. Glancing at August for a moment, Kurumi turned her gaze back to the Headmaster. "Will do, Headmaster," she nodded. In fact, she would go do so right after they left his office.
Don't go on your own? Well, Kurumi thought that was rather obvious, but he probably had to say that to cover his basis. Just because they were Gryffindors didn't mean they went looking for trouble...well...most of the time.
"Thank you for your time, Headmaster. I suppose that August and I should get going." And try to unravel the mystery behind this comet a bit more as well.

"You're welcome. I'm sure I'll be seeing you both soon. Send up the next in line as you leave, please," Tate gave them both a nod, although it was pleasant (or as pleasant as he was capable of being).

Alyssa wasn't sure whether she should be entering the Headmaster's office or not. The Gargoyles had remained opened when it had let the last students up, so she took it as an indication that it was letting her pass too. But now that she was up here, she was afraid to step further into the office. So she stood silently at the entrance of the doorway hoping that someone would notice her and tell her that she could proceed further in.

"Don't lurk." Tate barked at the girl in the doorway, and he gestured at the chair. "Ah, the poet has returned. Thank you for your owl. You must have developed a taste for writing."
But why was she visiting? More trouble with the Healer?

"I'm glad that you did get it, Headmaster. I wasn't sure whether my Owl knew how to send it, since this is only the second time that she had to deliver a message to someone in the school. I'm glad you liked it, Headmaster." Alyssa smiled at the Headmaster before quickly giving the reason why she was now here in his office.
"The reason I'm here is to ask for your permission to leave the school grounds sometime this month. King Simon De Simpson is getting married and I was invited to attend. But I heard that I needed permission to leave the grounds with someone, other than my parents."Alyssa asked the Headmaster.

Hmm. It was really up to parents to approve absences, and he was sure the girl realized that. "So long as you aren't missing school work and your parents come to get you in order to avoid interrupting the day, I don't see why you shouldn't attend some wedding."

Alyssa was glad to hear the Headmaster say that. "I'll make sure that I won't be missing any school work. In fact, while I'm away, I'll bring my homework with me. Thank you Headmaster."Alyssa told him smiling. Now that was settled, she could OWL her parents to let them know.
"Thank you for taking the time to speak with me, Headmaster. I know that you're busy, so I won't take up any more of your time. Good evening, Sir."Alyssa said nodding one more time before turning and leaving his office.
Bypassing the door a sliver shaped wolf ran into the office and stopped right infront of Professor Bentley. Opening its mouth as if to howl a voice, the clear voice of Professor Roslund could be heard in its stead:
"Headmaster, come to the balloon party tent as soon as possible! Some things have happened. I need your assistance with the students." With its message given the silver wolf dissapeard in a shroud of mist.
After being sent up by the Headmaster, Presley stepped into his office and a little awkwardly didn't know what to do. She stood in the center of the floor and waited for Tate. She was more than a little nervous at this point. Based on his body language by the gargoyles it seemed he was unwilling to agree with her just because she'd waited a year, and worked harder than ever before in her life for the entire year.
She stepped slightly toward a grouping of pictures and glanced at them. It seemed Tate had been to almost as many different places as she had, but he had met more influential people she was sure. Pres usually wasn't allowed along to her fathers meetings with the high class of the wizarding world. She instead spent the time in other countries as a tourist, visiting the sights, and above all, learning the history of them from her tutor. But she had so much fun. Especially on that Egypt trip last year with Elliot....
She scanned her eyes across the whole room, noticing the paradox's in it. The desk wasn't cluttered, but her eyes automatically caught several stains from glasses not being set on coasters. It seemed her Headmaster was a tidy man, but not a particularly obsessive one. It was nice. Amost comfortable. Presley had never been in such a strange type of room. In her experience, rooms were either kept in absolutely perfect order, or they were a mess.

He wouldn't admit it to the other owls, but Furmgoat was pleased that this time he only had to deliver a letter. Letters were so much easier on his wonky little wings, and they made flying much more enjoyable than carrying packages did. Not to mention faster.
Which was why he was now flying into this room where he was certain the girl person the letter was being sent to was.
"Hoo." Here, girl person.
He dropped the letter in front of her then, turning, he flapped his wonky wings and flew away, heading back to the post office.
SPOILER!!: Delivery

Hey Kiddo,
I haven't heard from you in almost two weeks. Are you doing all right? I'm beginning to feel a little concern. Preslet, I've had the most genius idea for broom development, that I can't record here in case it falls into the wrong hands, but as soon as it's fully developed and on the market, you'll know, I promise. It actually might not be done until summer, in which case you'll know about it before it comes out in stores. Maine helped a lot with it though, so I can't claim full credit.
I'm going on a business trip to France next week. Yes I know, I'll take pictures. How is dance going? Your instructor sent me a letter all about your improvement and achievements, thought I must admit I hardly understood what most of the words meant.
Hey kid, I know father told you to go back and talk to the headmaster about skipping up at about this time this year, but I wouldn't if I were you. And not because I think he won't let you, or that you're not competent. I wouldn't because that's a lot of unecessary stress for you. Besides, you'd graduate a whole year earlier than all of your friends. Wouldn't you rather have classes with people you like instead of feeling intimidated by older kids every day? You're really smart Pres, and if I were you I might take your OWL's early, but not skip a year.
I have something super important that I need your approval on. Okay? Listen, Preslet. I know you didn't have the best of experiences this summer, but that was my fault and not hers. Okay? I want to ask Maine to marry me. But you know that I won't do it unless you give your approval. I do love you and value you Pres. Do I have your approval? Please write back quickly. I want to ask her while we're in France.

Tate entered the office and gave the girl a nod. She wasn't wandering around touching things, which was a nice change considering the usual hooligans. Ravenclaws could be lovely sometimes.
"So. I suspect I know what this meeting is about, but why don't you tell me your thoughts at this time."

Presley cringed as the owl flew in. If it was for the headmaster, he might not have time to meet with her. If it was for her....it was for her. She took the letter quickly and stuffed it in her bag without reading it. Bad timing owl. Really bad timing. She hoped this one wouldn't wait around for treats, and please just leave before Tate came up. She wanted him to think she was professional. Not somebody who took owls at any time of the day. Why couldn't it just come at breakfast like it was supposed to? Thankfully it flew out of the room seconds before Tate stepped in.

"So. I suspect I know what this meeting is about, but why don't you tell me your thoughts at this time."
Presley took a silent deep breath. If it wasn't really a positive response, at least it seemed pretty neutral. "Sir, I feel that I've worked very hard all year. I've asked for extra work, and still I've been almost bored in my classes. I've gotten nothing below an E on any given assignment all year sir. I feel like I have done what we discussed the last time we talked about this, plus a little extra." She paused. It was too early in the conversational game to propose the compromise she was willing to make, but she wasn't sure if going above and beyond expectations was good enough for Tate. She still wasn't Kurumi Hollingberry. So she took a crazy leap that she would never have taken with anybody other than a Hogwarts professor. "Sir, could you tell me where you currently stand on the issue?" Because she had to have a starting point for a convincing argument, right?
Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee
Where he currently stood? Tate tilted his head and leaned back in his chair, giving the girl a long look. "I think you want this for other people's reasons, and I think you'll regret it almost immediately. Your friends will be in different classes, the new classmates will already have established relationships, you're only just scratching the surface of elective classes and cannot really anticipate how they'll go once you're past the introductory classes..."
That all sounded very negative, actually, and he didn't want to dissuade the little Ravenclaw from being an achiever. "Every professor in this school would be willing to offer supplementary work to encourage your interests and studies, which is a much more reasonable suggestion than skipping an entire year of learning. Have you tried that yet?"

"Every professor in this school would be willing to offer supplementary work to encourage your interests and studies, which is a much more reasonable suggestion than skipping an entire year of learning. Have you tried that yet?"
Presley felt like she'd been slapped. Not because he'd said or done anything to hurt or offend her, because every word he said was true. She was doing it for other people's reasons. Indirectly her own, but first and foremost because her father wanted her to, and she wanted her father to be proud of her.
She had thought about the classmate thing, and it had been one of the few reasons on her cons list. Of course it would be brought up now. But really, she would still share a dorm with her friends, and it's not like she wouldn't see them out of classes. Really, in classes, friends were only a distraction anyway. But still, Pres wanted this for someone else. And she was going to fight for it.
She nodded at the question. "Yes, sir. I've been asking for extra work all term, and most teachers are willing to work with that. The problem, sir, is that I'm still stuck in the lower classes, learning things I already know." Should she pull it out now? Presley looked down at the desk and folded her hands. She looked back up, and stared Tate right in the eye. Eye contact was supposed to be a good thing, right? "Headmaster, if I can get perfect O's on all of my finals this term, will you think about it more? You can send me an owl over the holidays and let me know about your decision, but I really think I can do this, sir. And I feel I'm being underestimated."
She could be so much more, or so her father said. All Pres wanted was to walk up to her father and tell him she was smart enough to skip a whole year of school, and for him to look away from whatever he was working on, walk out of whatever meeting he was in, and tell her she'd done well. Maybe he would take her out to lunch, just the two of them, and he would tell her he'd always known his child was special. But at the rate this conversation was going, that was never going to happen.
Presley shook the thought out of her head. It didn't matter. If Tate said yes, then she would no longer be bored in classes. If he said no, she would stay just where she was and nothing would change. Neither option was a bad one.

Hmm. She was a stubborn little thing. Almost Gryffindor about it. "Are we going to continue in this way every year? I say no, you ask me to think about it, I say no a year later... you tell me to think about it?" Although, strictly speaking, he hadn't said no YET. Definitely thinking about it.
"What's the end game here, kid? I mean... what is your ultimate goal? What do you want to get out of Hogwarts?"
He was going to say no? Presley mentally sighed. Of course he was. No teacher in thier right mind would let Presley do something like that. she just wasn't good enough.
The end game? Presley's pride forbade her from telling. She would seem like an uncultured three year old if she aired her family problems to the headmaster. She couldn't tell him what she wanted or why. "I just think that I can do more, and that my progress is being inhibited by not allowing my to continue at a level more to my intelligence." Presley sighed. No, she was lying, and she couldn't lie like that. She shook her head, "No, that's not right. I want my father to be proud of my educational progress and goals, and that's just not happening right now, sir."
She'd done it. She silently crossed her fingers that he wouldn't think too far into that statement. She was a terrible member of the Black family. Nobody else would have dared to say anything about their family not being absolutely perfect. But the words were out, and they couldn't go back in. "Do you see my predicament, sir?" she asked calmly.

"Your father should be the one advocating your education, not you. Do you know how many owls I get from parents that insist their child is gifted and should be given special treatment? And you know... I've never let someone skip ahead, because our educational system is built in such a way that it supports the individual learner." Tate tilted his head to the side and took the girl in. Honestly, he felt bad for her... it was an awful thing to believe that you were letting down your parents, but it was a terrible parent that put their child in that position.
So there.
"You are bright, Miss Black, and more than that you work hard and fight for what you want. I believe you can do whatever you put your mind to. And I will do everything in my power to make sure that you get as much out of your education as possible, and after that, I will do what I can to help you find a career path that brings you joy and purpose. Your education, though, isn't a way to show off or win approval. It is the key to help you get what you want out of life as an adult. So... what is your end game?" As in... what did she want out of life?
What did he want her to say? 'I thought I told you what I wanted and then you crushed all of my hopes and dreams'? No. Presley pasted on a sweet smile while she thought for a moment. She could feel her eyes stinging with the ghosts of tears that she absolutely refused to let fall. Presley didn't cry. At least not in public.
Presley took a deep breath. "Thank you, headmaster," she said sincerely. She'd never been called bright before in her life. And it was amazing that anybody would have such faith in her ability to suceed when Presley herself didn't believe that. What was her end game? Did he mean what she wanted to do? "I think I'd like to be a healer someday, sir." Or maybe a muggle doctor. She still had a bit of a thing against healers. But she was leaning more toward the wizarding version.
