The glittering night sky is clear and visible through the enchanted ceiling, and the floating candles bedeck the entire hall in a warm golden light. All seems well with the world, aside from the empty plates still waiting for food to appear.

This was the Gryffindor table where the Sorting Hat had just announced her to be. Narrowing her dark brown eyes, the little girl eyed the long and crowded table a bit. The colours; red and gold. Good. She liked the colours and the crowd there seemed to be fun anyway. It just looked like they needed to be taught a few things, other than that they were all fine.

...hmm was this girl a new one too? She seemed to be old for that but whatever. Taking her NEW WAND out, Lea poked the girl in the side with it. ''Hey hey. You. Out of my way. I want to sit there.''
Yeah. Before she had to hear about everyone's pathetic and unimportant summer, she had to provide Lea Carter a GOOD ENOUGH spot to occupy.

It had been too long since she had a meal in the Great Hall, Ari realized. And she had missed this place even more than usual this past summer, given that she had spent two whole months in the Muggle world, for the first time in her life. Admittedly, some parts of her vacation had been fun, but no Muggle experience could beat magic. No way.
Taking a seat at an edge of her house table, unsure whether she wanted to take part in the loud discussions or save that for later, the girl suddenly felt different from the last time she had stood at this table. Older, somehow. Maybe this was what being a third year normally felt like. Whoa, a third year already?!? Time sure went by fast...
Nevertheless, Ariadne was too hungry, sleepy and happy to dwell too much on that.
Looking again at the Gryffindor house table, the girl tried to find Ari. Come on come on…, she thought, quickly scanning the middle part of the table. But she was nowhere to see. Grrr.
Then, not really willing to, Gwen draught her attention back to the Sorting Ceremony. Oh great, another Ravenclaw- better be a good one!, she thought while clapping her hands as the new student approached their house table.
Back to the Gryffindor house table… Pam pam pam- let’s see, she thought and a smirk appeared on her face. ‘ARI!’, Gwen waved to her friend as she was approaching her. After giving her bestie a hug, the ravie asked, as if she wanted to be polite: ‘Mind if I join you?’

"Tayla! So glad to see you. Did you have a good summer?" Kurumi asked as she waved to the younger girl. Yet another young lion that she had high hopes for, especially this coming term. With her best friend as the Quidditch captain, Kurumi and Selina had done nothing but talk about Gryffindor house and ways that they hoped to bring the rawr back to the house. Hopefully Tayla would be up to the challenge...

Kurumi rolled her eyes to herself, not out of agitation or anything, but more like it was like seeing Josh aged down to eleven and in a skirt. Honestly, the apple really didn't fall far from the tree when it came to the Carters. Kurumi did clap for her as she made her way to the table, however. It was obvious that she was going to have just as much impact on the house as her brother did but hopefully with a little more pull in the positive direction with the points.
"Lea, there is plenty of room over here," she called, motioning for the girl. It was closer to the giant cake in the middle of the table anyway, along with the fried chicken legs.

Lea was still poking the older girl with her magical stick non-stop when she had heard someone utter her name. Huh? Being all distracted now, he stopped poking and looked up towards the direction that the familiar voice came from. And the moment she saw who that familiar voice belonged to, the dark eyes got narrowed again. Yet her expression was a mix of playful and teasing one.
There was plenty of room over there?
Hmmm...
''Hello there, the girl whose beauty has been detained for a long time!'' as she put her magical stick back in its holster there was a tiny evil smirk on her face. ''And why would i come over there? What does make those seats better than this one? Offer me something better. Or perhaps...you are trying to make up for your attempt of kissing my brother.''

Well, at least Kurumi had managed to make the first year stop poking Tayla, right? She really shouldn't be poking people with her wand of all things. A finger, sure, she could poke someone with her finger - even if that was equally annoying. Still, it was dangerous to go poking people with your wand, especially when one was as inexperienced with magic as they were. Perhaps the professors could get in a wand poking war and be fine...she wouldn't put it past them. They certainly were a weird bunch this term. It seemed to Kurumi that the constant vigilance was more directed at the Headmaster and his ability to keep his staff from blowing up the school or each other.
"Hello, little sister of Josh Carter whose name means weary or ruler," Kurumi responded with an equally innocent look on her face. If she was going to play the long name game, then Kurumi could play too. "Because Tayla is already sitting there?" And then Kurumi flinched at the mention of Josh and her alleged kissing of him. LIES. TOTAL LIES! MAYBE when she was a first year and had a sort of school girl crush on him the thought had gone through her head, but that ship had sailed. Besides, Josh was way older than her and, well, Kurumi had probably never crossed his mind in that way.
Nope. No kissing of Josh here. Nope nope nope.
"Lea, I did not try to kiss your brother!"

She'd sure be a good Lion this year. She didn't want to disappoint the goodness of their Prefect. It's nice to know that baking is her hobby. She never liked cooking but she's gonna try next summer. She sure want to bake a cake. When she was about to say something... her eyes were caught by a newly sorted firstie. She even stopped eating.

Yeah. Before she had to hear about everyone's pathetic and unimportant summer, she had to provide Lea Carter a GOOD ENOUGH spot to occupy.
Tennessee could not believe she's seeing someone like this in the Gryffindor table. To think that she's even a first year and was in front of the whole school. Basically, the girl doesn't have any rights to drive people away just because she wants to stay there. And now she's answering back Kurumi, her very own Prefect. I guess her attitude belonged more to Slytherin, Tenn said at the back of her head.
She doesn't want to start her year with scenes like this. She was on her way of thinking a name for the baby elf but was distracted now. She overheard from Kurumi, that the girl's name is Lea. Now Lea's accusing Kurumi of trying to kiss her brother. Did the girl was ever that frank?
Kurumi poured herself a glass of pumpkin juice and picked up a piece of roasted chicken before sitting back down and looking back at the younger boy. "There certainly are a lot of new faces this term," she nodded in agreement, sipping on her juice. "Even in regards to our Head of House. Professor Bentley has taken up the post now."
Placing her wand back in her pocket now, Kurumi looked over at Tennessee and smiled, a faint blush once again rising in her cheeks. "Just performing my duties to the best of my ability," she mumbled. Kurumi had been delivering cookies to her fellow Gryffindors ever since her first year. The gesture came with the Japanese custom of always having a gift whenever you went some where new or were going somewhere where you would have to be looked over. Hogwarts certainly fit the bill. "Baking is a hobby of mine. I spend most of my time in the kitchens really. Well, there and the common room and the library."
Oh Merlin...she had broken a first year! o___________O
Kurumi sort of flailed as Anya giggled her head off beside her, but was able to make out her question. "He is in Slytherin." Cue gasps? Shocked expression? Some sort of outburst? Or, perhaps the little first year would simply stop bouncing all over the place from laughter.
"I did," Kurumi nodded. Did being the key part of that sentence. "I really enjoyed it. The team is great and we have been lucky to have some fantastic captains, your brother among them. This year, my best friend is the captain." Which was sort of frightening to think about. Kurumi had the feeling that there was going to be more than golf balls being thrown around this term.
"Just call me Kurumi," she said with a wink. Really, there was no need to say prefect each time. It was a mouth full, especially if you tacked on her last name as well.
Kurumi giggled as one of the new lions reached up and grabbed a cookie from the air. Good, that is what they were there for. She laughed a little harder as his comment about paying for it later, and shot Selina a quick look. Maybe the red head should put the entire house through a training program of some sort. Evening work out routines in the common room or something?
"Well, you certainly won't have that problem here," Kurumi nodded. Even if Professor Scabior was always looking as though he hated the world, he was teaching for a reason and knew a lot about the subject. Surely that meant that he was enjoying it and willing to share, yes?
Just to tease the little first year, Kurumi pushed a tray of freshly steamed vegetables towards her. "You wouldn't want to hurt their feelings or not listen to the Headmaster."
"Summer was fantastic," she replied with a bright smile. "I did a lot of traveling. I've hardly ever been outside of Japan, with the exception of school, so it has been nice to see other parts of the world." And there he went, snatching up cookies...or trying to anyway. Kurumi reached up and plucked one out of the air, handing it to him. "Here," she laughed.
Jezz laughed and looked down at the plate of steamed vegetable that Kurumi pushed toward her, "Oh most definitely not. It would be against my strict ways of raising to disobey the words of my elder." She grabbed her fork and stuck it into a piece of broccoli and then ate it. Ah, the wonderful taste of broccoli, although it didn't really mix so well with the taste of cookie still semi in her mouth but she would deal with it.

Could you serve the food now?[/I] she begged inside her mind. There's a food cart inside the train but that wouldn't suffice for a long ride. It's all sweets. She even grew hungrier when Daisy mentioned some chicken legs and Bangers. Oh! How much long do they have to wait? She just preoccupied herself by listening to what Daisy and Maya had been talking to.
[…]
To the surprise of Gryffindors there was a pouring of cookies. Not just regular cookies but Gryffindor cookies. "Awesome," Tenn excitedly said as she picked a Gryffindor cookie and started nibbling it. She even managed to say, "You're the best Kurumi. Did you made these?"
[…] "I don't even know what last term had," she put her left hand in her head while nibbling another cookie. "These cookies are really delicious," she said feeling a bit full. "You should taste it, Anya."
“Common…short speech…short speech…” she urged quietly to the Headmaster.
Cookies?! Oh no… Tennessee had gobbled one up before Daisy could react. Now she’d probably be up all night long. Daisy grabbed her own cookie and gobbled it down to sate the hunger demons in her belly. “Mmm….foood…..” she muttered around a mouthful of crumbs.
And then Tennessee grabbed another cookie and got a few nibbled outs out of it before Daisy could react. She reached over and snatched it from her. “Nunnnt nun…one cookie and a sweet after dinner or two cookies and no sweets from the feast.” Daisy didn’t want all the firsties to get frightened of Hyper Tennessee.

"Pretty wet banquet," she added nodding her head in excitement at the thought of the giant squid inside the great hall. Would that ever be possible? “Then we’re all wearing raincoats over our robes,” she laughed. Seemed like the sugar from the cookie she ate are not doing her any good now. She should stop eating sweets but it’s too YUMMY.

Ha! She found a match. Daisy had snatched the cookie in her hand before she could shove it whole into her mouth. “Cookie thief,” she said laughing. “But there are a lot of cookies for everyone. And we might not even eat all of them tonight we could keep some,” she said looking at Kurumi though that is not a good idea. She looked at Daisy again and gave up. “Okay.. okay, just one cookie but I’ll have sweets after dinner,” sticking out her tongue to Daisy and laughed again.

Since she was starting to get a little hyper, still she managed to control herself from saying things but Daisy already reacted even before her. But her friend’s right about wands. Who’d need a wand in the feast? Are you gonna use it for eating or something. Good enough that Daisy didn’t say more and just enjoyed herself with Tenn’s cookie. “Hey,” she said as she watched her friend nibble the cookie away.

Kurumi was too focused on trying to figure out Lea to notice that Tennessee was watching her and the little first year. Lea really was the spitting image of Josh or what she imagined Josh to be like his first year. That was a sort of scary thought...Josh as a first year. If he was a seventh year and wearing heels into classrooms then Kurumi was afraid of what he was like as a first year. Attending classes dressed as a pink rabbit?
The thing with Lea was, as Josh had explained to her on the platform, that she had essentially grown up non-magical, so all this was very new to her. Not just new, but unknown, just like Kurumi herself had been when she was a first year. So, as odd as it sounded, she sort of related to the slightly shrewd first year.
She did notice Tennessee looking at her, and she offered her a smile. Maybe Kurumi could take her baking with her in the kitchens sometime.

Kurumi smiled again when another student was grabbing cookies out of the air and...from their friend? Or sister...or...something. Kurumi wasn't too familiar with either lions to know for sure.
She did smile in appreciation when the other girl chimed in to try and get Lea to stop poking people with their wands before shooting another look back at Lea. If she was anything like her brother...this would be interesting...

"You know, my father use to tell me that these were trees," she laughed, popping a piece of broccoli in her mouth. Probably his weird attempt to make her eat them. Not that she really needed some story to make her do so, she liked broccoli just fine.
Drumming on her goblet of pumpkin juice, Kurumi began to think about what Nimma had said. A name for the baby house elf..seemed like something that all the lions should think about together. She was sure there were a lot of creative minds here. "A name for a baby house elf..." she said, not really to anyone in particular.

When she heard her name being called in a very familiar tone, the now third year shifted closer to the person speaking, none other than Kurumi. 'Hey.' she greeted back cheerfully, smiling broadly when the older girl said she'd missed her. 'I've missed you too. I've had an interesting summer, but I couldn't keep in touch with anyone, I've practically lived like an average Muggle for months.' she admitted.
'Anyway, what's new with you?' Ariadne asked, trying to cover the sounds made by her starving stomach. Luckily, the headmaster's speech started shortly, which meant food would be there soon. Keeping quiet during the speech, Ari moved her hands excitedly at the news (for her, at least), that they would be celebrating 1000 years of Hogwarts. Wicked!
'So...Bentley's our new Head of House?' she asked Kurumi, after the general noise had died down and people, herself included, were helping themselves to Kurumi's delicious cookies.

Oooh, another familiar face among the sea of firsties. 'Tayla, over here!' she called her friend, genuinely curious to find out if she had discovered anything new about the locket and excited at the prospect of starting a new adventure. First things first, though. 'Did you have a fun summer?'

'Tired of the Eagles already?' Ari joked, gesturing for her bestie to take a seat beside her, after releasing her from the big bear hug. 'Honestly, looking for me in the middle? You know better than that, I'm not so sociable.' she chuckled, attacking the plate of food in front of her.
She didn't need to ask Gwen much about her summer, since they have visited each other a lot and written to each other while Ariadne had been stranded in Muggle France. Somehow, the only person she had been allowed to contact had been Gwendolyn, which made sense, really.
'So, tell me something I don't know.' Ari grinned, eager to find out what Gwen had been up to.
Kurumi laughed and scooped a few vegetables on her own plate, nibbling on her chicken as she did.
Jezz laughed as she grabbed some of the chicken and mashed potatoes with a few more pieces of broccoli and some carrots. "My parents really didn't have to trick me into eating anything. I love to eat almost everything." She added some more pumpkin juice to her cup and dug in.
The Kurumi said something not to really her but it made her think. A name for a baby house elf. "Why are you naming a baby house elf exactly?" Drat, there she went again getting into business that doesn't involve her. Her manners were slipping being away from home and she hadn't really been gone that long. "How about Aditi, if it's a girl? It means free." She took a sip of pumpkin juice and thought about boy names, "Or Tait for a boy?"

“Good…” Daisy bit off the “G” and suddenly got the feeling someone was watching her. She looked up and around still chewing the cookie bite and noticed the prefect watching her. She smiled, tight-lipped of course to make sure that no food was showing and swallowed. “Good cookies,” she said holding the cookie up in salute.
She then went back to watching the other student with the wand, taking another bite of cookie.

Good enough that Daisy didn’t say more and just enjoyed herself with Tenn’s cookie. “Hey,” she said as she watched her friend nibble the cookie away.
”Hmmm what?” Crumbs tumbled down her chin. “Oh…” she smiled sheepishly and then noticed the chicken legs next to Tenn’s arm. “Chicken!” She put the cookie down and leaned across Tenn to grab the plate. “Here,” she said putting one of Tenn’s plate. “Have one. “ She put one on her plate and then put the platter down in front of them. Merlin, she was hungry! She’ probably could eat the Giant squid, tentacles and all.

As soon as she got closer to Ari, the girl heard the remark about the Eagles. ‘Haha…’, she said mockingly as if it weren’t even funny, but then added: ‘Actually yeah…’
TUN TUN TUN TUN---MIND BLOWN.
Ehem-hem- moving on: ‘You are not sociable? Then what am I ?!’, she mumbled, more like to herself. Happy that Ari didn’t start with the proper stuff like ‘how are you’, or ‘how was your train ride’ and blah blah, Gwen decided not to bore her with her annual speech about the first years.
‘To your surprise… I’ve got plenty of news’, she started saying, but than made a short pause, just to dramatize the moment a bit. ‘Aaaand starting with the least interesting thiiiing…’, the ravie announced, just like in a muggle show. ‘I met a Hufflepuff on the train.’Dramatic pause.
‘Then, I finally found that spell for my cat’, Gwen smirked. And I’m going to try it as soon as possible!‘I also think I’m going to talk to someone about the whole healer thing.’ And the pictures, she remembered, but decided to postpone telling Ari anything about her recent discovery.
Turning her head to the staff table, Gwen listened to the Headmaster’s speech. ‘Don’t…DIE?!?’Psh.‘Sooo-‘, she went on talking. ‘Got any news?’
Helga sat down at the half empty table, the crystal clear sky night sky looked beautiful on the magical ceiling. As Helga stared, the hall began to fill up with the students who had went home for the holidays. While Helga looked at the smiling facesin there robes, she knew her home was where she sat.

Thea sat, TOTALLY ON HER OWN, at the very crowded Gryffindor table. Moodily stabbing at her meal with a fork, Thea rested her chin into her palm. She tossed back her dark hair. If she was honest, Thea hadn't been to keen on coming back. she knew how many students said that Hogwarts was their 'home' or whatever, but Thea totally did not feel that way about the castle.
Reaching a hand down, Thea dropped a bit of the fish that was on the large plate next to her onto the bench beside her. Thea's large, fluffy cat snatched it immediently and began to purr. She had no idea if pets were allowed in the Great Hall, but then again she was also nearly sure that Maleficent wouldn't get thrown out..
Picking at her salad, the third year blew out, making a stray piece of hair flutter slightly. Thea has considered staying on the train when it had arrived. She wished she had stayed there, with her eyes closed and head leaning against the cool glass of the window listening to the wild rain and the wind outside. Unfortunately, no such luck. She had been ousted from her slumber and made to exit the train. Boo.

Maxwell noticed a girl he hadn't met before, he found it odd every time he met an older gryffindor he hadn't met. "Hello, I don't believe we've met. My name is Maxwell Rookwood." Maxwell said extending his hand. Even though most people didn't shake hands in England Maxwell still found himself doing it, being raised by an american.

Hah!
What was that now? Was the girl who tried to kiss her brother challening her with a long name game? Giving the girl a twisted smirk, the little dark haired girl snorted rather loudly. ''That was lame, you know?'' And she was NOT weary. Ruler though...the prefect girl had a point there. Lea Carter was a born ruler!
Giving Kurumi a fake smile, she glanced back at where the older girl she had poked was sitting. ''It seemed to me she needed a replacement.'' an evil smirk appeared on her face again, she was at her halfway to unholster the wand again when Kurumi denied her attempt of kissing her brother. As she put the wand back in its holster again, she seemed to calm down a bit. ''Really?'' then she asked crossing her arms ''What were you trying to do then?''

Lea's sharp dark brown eyes did not miss another older girl staring at her. Hmmm...what? Did they have a problem? The little girl did not know and shrugged the idea away anyway. She just stared back at the girl for a few moment or so before....

...turning to face this girl. Another older girl who seemed all angsty from head to toe. Was this house full of angsty older girls who would always try to tell her what to do? After eyeing her a bit, Lea narrowed her eyes at this girl too.

Maxwell laughed. " 'Mr. Rookwood' that makes me sound like my grandfather. I'm just wondering why she hasn't contacted me? or where she is, on the up side my dad was at the platform. My real dad, it was strange but great. i guess it's just mixed emotions." Maxwell said with a nostalgic smile. "You know that she'll turn up sometime soon," Jordan smiled. "Your real dad? That must've been kind of weird for you wasn't it?" he asked, "It wouldn't be a worthwhile year if we didn't get into some sort of trouble would it?" he laughed, remembering the failed gillyweed mission and the courtyard duel the previous year.
