The glittering night sky is clear and visible through the enchanted ceiling, and the floating candles bedeck the entire hall in a warm golden light. All seems well with the world, aside from the empty plates still waiting for food to appear.

Paulie entered the Great Hall and a smile immediately produced on his lips. Know why? Because it even smelled like Hogwarts. The sixth year stood in the entryway and inhaled deeply. Perhaps part of the scent was to be attributed to the coming food, but still. Good to be back! Yes, indeed.
The glint of the golden and red banners caught his eye, and he was soon on his way to the glorious Gryffindor table. There was an open place, right smack dab in the middle section of the table, so Paulie swerved around two firsties and claimed the seat as his own.
Ma'am? Wasn't that how Selina addressed Dragon Lady? Kurumi sort of wrinkled her nose for a moment before placing her hand on top of her box. She coooooooooould open it up now, but she sort of wanted to wait until more lions had arrived, especially all those newly sorted ones. After all, this welcoming feast was a very big part of their first impression of the school.
Didn't mean that she could totally ignore Selina's eyes salivating all over the box. "Well, hopefully you will be getting something in your tummy soon," she teased.
Kurumi blatantly ignored Selina when she subtlety hinted at the whole cookie dilemma. It was sort of like a war negotiation. One side had something the other wanted and in return Selina would be really cute. So she bat her eyelashes and smiled at Kurumi. But when the girl basically told her that she had to wait she crossed her arms and sat in her seat. "Fine I can take a hint. Its not like I am starving or something. I only had two chocolate frogs, a box of bertie botts, three licorice wands, four pumpkin pasties, a jelly slug and two cauldron cakes today." She could feel her insides aching in starvation. This was some form of torture she was certain.
But she could wait until more Gryffindors arrived. The Gryffindor Captain had some level of self control.... yeah sure she did. So she looked up at Kurumi and joked, "If you want to make your friend starve that is your own prerogative."

Selina smiled at Kurumi who finally wandered into the Great Hall. Took the prefect long enough. It seemed though that she had been held up by the hoard of cookies that Selina knew were in that box. Speaking of which Selina was starving. The whole idea of cookies sounded bloody wonderful at the present moment and obviously, by the size of the box, Kurumi had enough to go around. Sharing was caring after all.
So when she commented on Selina's holding up the fort she nodded and said, "Yes, ma'am. And holding up the fort is a busy job. I'm famished..." Cookies, cookies, cookies, cookies, cookies!
Just then she turned to her left and saw Gideon plop down beside her. She smiled at him and teased back, "Yeah its been ages. Where have you been all these years, Gid?" Then her eyes slowly drifted back to the box.... COOKIES!
Gideon chuckled as Selina turned to him as he was taking a seat on the bench beside her. "Maybe the question is...where have YOU been," he mused with a touch of amusement in his green eyes. He then followed her gaze back to the no-doubt cookie-filled box and shook his head at the way the younger girl appeared to be towards it.
"Easy there Cap't. Ye don't want the newbies to think ye'll eat them if they mess up on tryouts," he teased, the excitement of the room adding to his playful behavior from the train and beforehand.

It was now that Kurumi took a proper look at the tableware. Oh GOOD! Things were clean and as they should be. That meant that she didn't have to worry about the house elves this term and that the kitchens would be open. Yep...she had a really REALLY good feeling about this term.

"Aye maybe not," he agreed with a slight shrug. It wasn't like Kurumi's welcoming nature and gestures towards her fellow students were anything like a wild dog. "First word that came to mind though," Gideon explained with a laugh of his own as she moved on to continue her trail down the table. He turned back to glance at the rest of the table and the people filing in only to spot the shininess of everything.
Thank Merlin the elves seemed to be back to their normal selves, he mused as he picked up and absently examined a knife.
The train ride seemed faster than last term, perhaps the train had caught a tailwind--did trains get those too?
The fourteen year old walked into the familiar Great Hall and as soon as the candle light hit him a huge smile broke out on his face. This was his home as far as he was concerned at the moment. He was with other kids like him for a change and he had made so many friends last year he would get to see again.
Speaking of friends...August had been searching the Gryffindor table for some of the people he played Quidditch with and saw in the Common Room almost daily. Many of them like Josh and Carter had graduated last term sadly but there were two he recognized from this far off that he was super excited to see.
Plopping down across from the two girls he slammed a hand on the table. "Kurumi, Selina! How are you guys?" he asked genuinely excited to see them. "Miss you on the train I was with...." before he could continue he saw a glint of something metallic just below his eye line and had just expected it to be the shine from Kurumi's prefect badge but found out upon further inspection it was from Selina's badge.
O___o
"NO WAY!" he said, shocked. "Selina! Congradulations! You have Carter's old badge?!" He raised his hand up for a high five.

As two more Gryffindors made their way to the table, Kurumi waved and offered each of them a smile. "Welcome back." Hadn't that one boy been with the Slytherin Princess herself? Kurumi hadn't seen her and her hair on the train, which was probably a good thing seeing as that girl also seemed to have it out for Kurumi. She really needed to fix her track record with Slytherins. Well, the she-snakes anyway.

Kurumi looked back at Selina and batted her eye lashes at her best friend in the most obnoxiously innocent manner that she could think of. She even pouted her bottom lip just a bit. "Why, Selina, what makes you think that there is food in this box?" Her eyes then widened and she thrust her hand at Selina, pointing at her in an accusing manner, "You actually ate one of THOSE THINGS?!" And by things she clearly meant chocolate frogs. Kurumi had still sworn those things off. Selina was...out of the pride...or something.

Curious, Tasia leaned forward a little, eyeing the box as if she could see through it. The one that had brought it, Kurumi, said something about tummy-fillings but she had a hand on the top of the box, so Tasia couldn't well take a peak. And she didn't want to look strange by sniffing it.
So she was left wondering as she sat back down, slowly. "No worries." Her attention was on the box for a moment more before she blinked up at the other girl. "You wouldn't happen to be a Prefect, would you?" That, or just an all-around friendly house-mate that remembered everyone's names and their kittens.
That was a talk about kittens in France, wasn't it?
Drumming on the top of the box, Kurumi pondered if she had waited long enough to start charming the contents of her box, but she was enjoying teasing Selina and making her face scrunch up like a sour lemon. But she was momentarily distracted when Tasia spoke again.
"I am," she nodded, her cheeks flushing just a bit. "Selina here is the Quidditch Captain." There, talking about Quidditch ought to distract Selina just a little bit longer, right? As for her co-prefect, well, she wasn't sure where they were. They hadn't been on the train either come to think of it.

Kurumi laughed. That word always reminded her of unleashing something big...like a dragon...
oooooooh...dragons...
Kurumi's eyes flicked back towards the staff table as she tried to figure out which among them was the new Care of Magical Creatures professor. Which one looked the most rugged, outdoorsy, likely to hug a tree? She did see Professor Bentley up there and made a mental note to go and say hello to her a little later...even IF she was seated next to Professor Scary Face Scabior.
With a soft wave, she let Gideon return to his...inspection of the silverware.

Yep, he loved his Gryffindor family.
Kurumi jumped a bit when someone slammed their hands on the table and was just about to tell whoever it was that they needed to be a little calmer because slamming wasn't really necessary, all agitation went out the window when she saw who had done the slamming. "August!" Kurumi smiled, giving the little lion a quick hug. He was adorable enough that he could slam his hands on the table if he wanted to. "I'm brilliant. How are you?!" She DID notice how he had trailed off just a bit, but didn't have time to say anything since his attention was now drawn to Selina's badge. "Yep, you are going to have to call her Captain this term," Kurumi winked.
Speaking of Captain... "So, Selina, how are you going to go about recruiting new players?" And my replacement. "I can help you make a poster or something."

Jezz could have ran, maybe skipped, or possibly danced to the Gryffindor table. Now if only she had someone, anyone to celebrate with! She was in Gryffindor the house she had been hoping for. She saw Kurumi talking to a few people and wanted to run up and ump in front of her and be excited but she didn't. Her polite manner wouldn't allow her to interrupt a conversation. Speak only if spoken to was one major thing on her list of things to do. But oh the excitement was too hard to hold in, so hard to contain.

Scar saw a first year and she could just tell from the elation on her face that she was excited to be here. "Hello, I'm Scarlett Montenegro and I want to welcome you to the best place on earth." She said and spread her arms out to show what she meant.

Out of the corner of her eyes, Kurumi thought she someone jumping more than violently than a leaping toadstool and when she turned her head to see what it was, Kurumi's eyes widened with excitement at the first year in crimson clad robes before her.
"Jezz! Congratulations!" she exclaimed as she clapped her hands together loudly. "Oh, I just knew you were going to be sorted here! Welcome to the pride!" She threw her arms around the girl to give her a hug. Everything was coming together full circle it seemed.

"I know right," Jezz said enjoying the great feeling of coming home. She might have only been there for a little while but she already knew that it would become home. "I am so happy to be part of the pride." She hugged Kurumi back and couldn't believe that she was finally going to get everything she wanted. Great friends and an actual place to call home
Then something caught her attention. The older girl already knew she would be sorted into Gryffindor but how? Why not ask. "How did you know I was going to be in Gryffindor?" Or had she already asked questions like this? Can you say deja vu? She could.

Selina eyed him and pushed him lightly in the shoulder, "Oh shove off you. You know I was here first. So if anyone went missing it was you." Guitar boy was being cheeky once more. Then again she did not always help with this side of Gideon. She always seemed to raise the stakes when it came to their mischief. If they kept their conversation on the calmer side nothing would ever reach the status of playful teasing like it did. But if they did not treat each other the way that they did they would not be the same friends, the same duo, the same couple.
But her eyes eventually inevitably left Gideon's face to return her gaze to the box of wonder sitting in Kurumi's hand. She grinned ear to ear at just the thought of the annual cookies that were sitting in that box when Gideon ruined her fun a little, "I won't eat them at try outs. Eww could you imagine how terrible try outers would taste?" Selina joked.

Her eyebrows rose when Kurumi tried to be coy with her. Everyone and their cousin knew that Kurumi was the cookie girl. She brought the cookies and the cookies had been a recurring theme for Selina since she was a first year. It was an ANNUAL thing so there were cookies in there. She did not even need to say a word. The eyebrow was enough indication that she knew Kurumi was full of dragon dung.
Selina flinched when Kurumi picked up on Selina's mention of the chocolate frog. Merlin, she had meant to keep that a secret! Yes, after three straight years of staying caste of the anti-frog law that was established between herself and Kurumi she had a moment of panic. It was just as revolting going down this time then when they had the episode. But she had bought it and she was not going to waste food. So she ate them.. she but her tongue and ate them. "I-I-I didn't mean too! You of all people have to understand. I panicked!"
Then she smiled at the older student and nodded, "I am Captain. Please to meet you... well actually I didn't catch your name."

Selina snapped her head when she heard a familiar voice say her name. It was Auggie! Oh Merlin, she had missed him over the summer. The pair were the only two third years on the team last year and they had all gotten pretty close during the Pep Rally which was the best way to end the year in Selina's opinion. Vindictus had better do that every year. She was partial to the facepaint and her boyfriend the lion.
She gestured for Auggie to come closer and answered, "I'm great! How about your..." What was he looking at? Did she have something on her robes? No that was impossible because Kurumi was being a butthead and would not share her cookies.
Then he yelled and Selina jumped. Oh it was about her Quidditch Captain badge. She nodded excitedly and replied, "Yeah I know. And well in my book it is Simon and Carter's old badge. But thanks! You gonna be at try outs Auggie?"
When Kurumi noted the name change Selina squirmed, "Ew no. That sounds weird to me. Carter and Simon are Captain. I'm just Selina... that's odd..."
A poster...? A bloody poster? Was she out of her mind? No way. They were Gryffindors not some bloody poster people. So she fumbled and reached inside her robe pockets. After a few seconds of flailing about she finally found what she was looking for, "GRYFFINDOR FACE PAINT!!!"

"Pssssh! Yeah right Kurumi, I don't call you Prefect." he said eyeing her and her box of legendary cookies badge after giving her a quick hug back. He really had missed his friend over the summer. The atmosphere in the Great Hall was electric and it felt great, he looked up at the staff table and saw many new faces. Auggie made a mental note to find out who the newbies were and go and visit them later after the feast.
Back to the important matters though, like Selina's captianship! "So I will naturally be trying out to play again this term." he said nodding as if it was an obvious fact.
Selina then yanked out a jar of....GRYFFINDOR FACE PAINT. "Posters have nothing on face paint. She's right Kurumi." he said giving her a comical appologetic face.

Jade Skidmoore made her way into the Great Hall, looking around for two people. One was her boyfriend, Nikolas, and then her enemy, Selena. She had heard the rumors on the train about the girl being a prefect and she'd rather avoid that girl the entire year that way she wouldn't get in trouble for something that weird girl did.
Anyways, she missed Nikolas a lot, for she only saw him a couple times during the summer due to her parents. She had told the lie to her parents about them not dating anymore and they took it fairly well. Although, she did have good news to tell Nik.
So now, it was the first day of the year again and she was looking forward to having it be better. Especially about how she treated people, which she was getting a bit better at. She even made a new friend, another Slytherin though. Why exactly was she making only friends with Slytherins? She had no idea. The brunette shook the thought off and looked down at the empty table. Her stomach growled and she sighed. Where was the food?

Gideon was brought out of his wandering thoughts and gazing at the clean silverware when a hand was slammed down on the table in front of him. He looked up as he put down the knife to find August had taken a seat across from him and the besties. "Hey August," he greeted with a polite nod. Granted they may not be too close but team mates counted for something right?

SPOILER!!: Auggie and Kurumi
Leaving them to congradualations, his gaze once more wondered until he was hit in the shoulder by Selina. Gideon acted like it hurt, absently rubbing it with his opposite hand as he turned back to her and listened."Whatever you say," he remarked with a tip of his head to the side as he watched her continue her merriment about the impending cookies.
Eww...not a delightful thought indeed, he mused making a face as Selina commented on the taste of try-outers. "Aye...nah too pleasant I believe," he commented in agreement with a laugh. When she began searching for something in her bag all of a sudden, the fifth year couldn't help but raise an eyebrow, groaning before could catch himself at the sight of the face paint.

Kurumi squished her, to coin Lexi's term, cublet a little tighter. This must have been what Lexi had felt like, seeing Kurumi grow into her own. Sure, the two of them had had whatever that tiff was during last term, but that had been resolved and things were back to what they had been before. It felt as if, in graduating, Lexi had indeed passed the reins of student Mamma Lion onto her and Kurumi was determined not to let Lexi down even if the fifth year didn't really like the whole verb form of Gryffindor in Gryffindoring someone.
"Just a hunch," she smiled, releasing the first year from the hug. "Truth me told, I actually see a lot of me in you, back when I was a first year." Merlin, talking like this was making her feel older than her fifteen years of age.

"You didn't mean to eat the chocolate frog?" Kurumi repeated, arching her eyebrow once more. Selina Skylar always meant to eat, it was a habitual action. If she was left in the kitchen long enough Kurumi was sure that the fourth year would eat everything in site and then no one would have anything to nibble on.
Kurumi would let Selina live in her fantasy world...for now.

And now August AND Selina were both eyeing her box of cookies. Yes yes, she would open those up soon enough, but now was the time for people to talk and get settled in. Her cookies tended to be a bit of a distraction from this.
She did have to laugh at August's comment. "You don't, but I have had some call me that," she pointed out. Not the most common nickname for her though. Hollingberry and Dictionary Eater were the more common ones, and neither of those were typically said in a loving manner. Her attention shifted to Selina now. "Selina...you ARE odd though." No denying that one. The girl had actually brought face paint to the opening feast. Not a pep rally. But the bloody opening feast.
Kurumi sort of leaned back aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaway from Selina and her face paint. "I am not going to allow you to paint on the walls of the common room if you are suggesting that," Kurumi said, her eyes locked on the red and gold paints. Hence the need for a poster. A nice clean announcement board where everything was aligned just so was something that Kurumi had been daydreaming about all summer. Selina and her paints would have to fidn another canvas.

Jezz smiled at the girl named Scarlett and couldn't help but beam even more. "I am so excited. I wanted to be in Gryffindor. It almost feels like coming home." She had totally just rambled off things without ever giving her name. So spazz like today. "I'm Jezzabelle but you can call me Jezz."
Scarlett got a wistful smile. "It does feel like home doesn't it?She said with such adoration in her voice. "You can call me Scar. It makes me feel like a rebel." Scar grinned and laughed at her own description of her name.

The fifth year flaunted her robes as she walked towards the Lions table. the mood of the Great hall's always bright and happy to welcome students back into what they can call second home. Tennessee couldn't be happier now that she's totally back at Hogwarts. She missed the castle so much and the FOOOOOD!!! It's the start of term banquet and she found herself a comfortable seat not near enough the front. She beamed at the sight of all the students old and new. Hoping that this would be another great year for her. What best to do there is to befriend new ones or watch people chat.

Logan smiled widely as soon as he saw Jezz. "Jezz!" he said, running up to her and almost knocking her down in the biggest hug ever. "WE'RE IN THE SAME HOUSE!" he said excitedly, spinning her around and laughing, not caring what anyone around him thought. He was way too excited to care!
It felt wonderful to come back into Hogwarts!! The second year Ira entered the Great Hall and was pleased to see that Hogwarts was the same as it was before, only she had grown a bit taller than last term! But this time, Hogwarts seemed a little less intimidating and a bit more welcoming..
It was exciting to see nervous first years being sorted.. She fondly remembered her own. how nervous she had been the last term!
She looked around and headed over to the Gryffindor house table and sat down and waited for the feast to start..
She looked around at the table for any familiar faces and saw Ryan. "Hi Ryan!"

"Well I hope that's a good indication of where I'll be heading in the next seven years I'll spend here." And if it was then that was great. Come on, Kurumi was a Prefect, of course it meant something good to be like her...just a little.

Jezz was shocked to find herself talking to people on second and being spun around the next. When her feet landed right she smiled up at Logan. "We are totally Gryffindor's together!

Why did he dread the ideas?
She rolled her eyes when Gideon rubbed his shoulder like he was actually hurt. He was being silly, but carrying on with their teasing charade she said, "Oh I think you'll be fine." Then she leaned over and kissed his cheek, "There all better." She had important things to attend to like the cookies in the box and how to get the cookies. They needed some super mysterious plan to just sneakily grab the cookie box. Yeah, that was a good idea... now just to get a plan.
Gideon recaught her attention and she said, "Yeah not too pleasant at all." She would rather not think about the taste of those who would try out for her team. Yeah... not a pleasant thought at all... she needed to stop thinking about it.
SPOILER!!: Auggie

All of the older people had the responsibility not them. And yet... it seemed that with each passing year all of the older kids left and they were becoming the big kids. A weird phenomenon- growing older.
She turned her attention back to Auggie and grinned at his enthusiasm, "Good... I'll see you on the Pitch then, sir. It is a date." She stuck her tongue out at Auggie about the last part. It was weird thinking that she would be putting together her team this year.
Selina smugly put her hands on her hips and waved the tube of facepaint, "It is a fool proof plan!"

Selina slunk away from Kurumi as she continued on to question her about the whole chocolate frog incident. She felt like she was in court and needed to escape somehow. Maybe if she pointed out a house elf she could distract Kurumi long enough to run. No that wouldn't work because Kurumi could always find Selina later... Merlin, she was not going to get out of this. But then she seemed to have gotten out of whatever trouble she was in. It was that easy?
After Auggie entered the conversation she snickered at the tube of red she was holding in her hand. This was going to be gold and everyone knew that this was a brilliant plan. How could it not be seen as anything BUT brilliant. It was uniting the house early on like they had united at the Pep Rally and what was a little face paint? Nothing really in the over all scheme of things. "I take that as a compliment and I would NEVER paint the walls to Gryffindor tower... they are already red. That would be a waste of time."
Leaving them to congradualations, his gaze once more wondered until he was hit in the shoulder by Selina. Why did he dread the ideas?
Oh another member of the Gryffindor Quidditch team he had played with last term. "Hey Gideon, how was your summer? Good to be back, eh?" he said with a nod and a grin.
He hadn't really talked to the boy much before but seeing as he was Selina's boyfriend, one of his good friends, they would be seeing each other plenty. Plus he would probably be playing Quidditch again this term.

The reaction Kurumi had and the face Selina made at his comment of calling Kurumi 'Prefect' was absolutely priceless. "Oh so you DON'T want me to call you that?" he shrugged a bit, an mischevious smirk playing on his lips.
Continuing to eye the box that was not cookies but chocolates, August was happily listened as the older girl fussed with their Quidditch Captain about a past incident he would love to hear more about later. Now Selina was wanting to paint the walls of the Common Room?! "Selina, surely you know you can't do that...there are like tapestries on them." They were definately pretty old, were they not?
So now that he was back in the group of his Gryffindor family he was excited to get this term started. "So you guys ready for Gryffindor to take the house cup this term?" he leaned in, not trying to make his voice low. Maybe the Slytherins would hear him. He really wouldn't know what to do if one of them came over to intimidate him but still...heh.

Tenn watched a boy comfortably plop into a seat and grab some juice. That definitely made her thirsty. It reminded her that she haven't had any drink since that morning and her throat is craving for some. She grabbed the nearest pitcher and poured it into an empty glass in front of her. Then she heard a girl's voice calling out for someone. She really have to mingle with more people this year. She definitely needs a life. She again glanced at the other Gryffindors who were taking their seats, soon enough the place will be crowded.
She just busied herself with some of the juice she had poured. Alas. Pumpkin juice, she thought as she let it drench her throat.
