The glittering night sky is clear and visible through the enchanted ceiling, and the floating candles bedeck the entire hall in a warm golden light. All seems well with the world, aside from the empty plates still waiting for food to appear.
What was that now? Was the girl who tried to kiss her brother challening her with a long name game? Giving the girl a twisted smirk, the little dark haired girl snorted rather loudly. ''That was lame, you know?'' And she was NOT weary. Ruler though...the prefect girl had a point there. Lea Carter was a born ruler!
Giving Kurumi a fake smile, she glanced back at where the older girl she had poked was sitting. ''It seemed to me she needed a replacement.'' an evil smirk appeared on her face again, she was at her halfway to unholster the wand again when Kurumi denied her attempt of kissing her brother. As she put the wand back in its holster again, she seemed to calm down a bit. ''Really?'' then she asked crossing her arms ''What were you trying to do then?''
Lea's sharp dark brown eyes did not miss another older girl staring at her. Hmmm...what? Did they have a problem? The little girl did not know and shrugged the idea away anyway. She just stared back at the girl for a few moment or so before....
...turning to face this girl. Another older girl who seemed all angsty from head to toe. Was this house full of angsty older girls who would always try to tell her what to do? After eyeing her a bit, Lea narrowed her eyes at this girl too.
''Ha? I have had no problems taking it with myself, though. Nothing and no one stopped me...officially.'' she smirked a bit then the smirk turned into the usual twisted, arrogant one. ''Unless you come to me with an official rule of that, it does not interest me. And since i see nothing official with you, i think i am fine with my magical stick.''
Prue raised her eyebrows at the younger girl. Though she'd never really spoken to Kurumi, she knew that Kurumi was one of the nicest people in Gryffindor, and definitely her favourite prefect. This girl had an attitude problem, and she already knew that the next few years would be quite long years... unless she changed... that was a preferable option! Or maybe avoiding her, though running into her again would be inevitable.
Internally sighing she sagged her shoulders, running a hand through her hair hoping that Seji would be coming soon... where had he gone off to anyway? In the mean time she'd just have to attempt not to show her dislike of the younger girl, so smiled politely at her, and then at Kurumi. "Something interesting always happens here..." she trailed off, though she sort of did mean that Lea was the interesting thing as she plucked up one of the hovering cookies, taking a small bite. Kurumi was brilliant at baking! "Do you think anything interesting will happen again this term? By the way, the cookies are brilliant... best I've ever had" she told Kurumi, ignoring Lea's existence for now.

Reason: Wanted to mention cookies... love cookies!!! *goes to find cookies now*
"Hi Maya!" Ariella responded. "I know, I'm starving, too. It should be here any minute now." She stifled a yawn, noticing how tired she was. "But I hope it's here soon!" Noticing she had a pen in her hand still from the train, she stuffed it into her robe pocket. "So are you excited to be starting at Hogwarts? Do you play any Quidditch?"
Maya had just turned to clarify with Ariella what quidditch was, when Kurumi stood and called out for everyone to take their seats for the headmaster's speech.
Maya dutifully quietened down and looked on attentively as the headmaster made his speech.

When the speech had finished, Kurumi clapped and her eyes brightened when food appeared before them. About time for her cookies to make an appearance as well, right?
Kurumi stood up and opened the lid to her box, waving her wand over it as an ERUPTION of house pride shot forth from it, covering all those present at the Gryffindor table with glitter and streamers in crimson and gold. Following soon after was a parade of Gryffindor cookies danced in the air around the table, free for anyone to pluck and nibble on if they so desired.
"Welcome new and not so new lions," Kurumi chirped, clapping her hands together loudly. "Enjoy your meal and remember, just like the Headmaster said, eat your vegetables!"
Clapping as the speech finished, Maya looked on as the contents of the huge box Kurumi was carrying were revealed.
WOW. Maya screamed and giggled like a 5 year old on bonfire night. She had only found out that she was a witch that summer when she recieved her letter inviting her to Hogwarts. Before that had known nothing about witches and wizards. It had come as a great shock to her when her dad had told her that her mother was a witch. Growing quiet for a moment Maya wondered how her dad was doing without her, all alone in their cottage. She made a promise to herself hat she would write to him first thing tomorrow. Perhaps she could send it by owl like how she recieved her letter. She'd have to ask one of the older students how to do it.
Turning back to Ariella, Maya asked "Quidditch, no I don't play, that's played on broomsticks right? I don't even know how to fly!"

Another firstie was sorted, this time into Ravenclaw. "So Maya," Daisy started deciding to try and keep her mind off of food. "Where do you harken from?"
Maya grabbed herself some lasagne before turning to speak to Daisy, "You weren't joking the food gets here fast!" she exclaimed, piling some food onto her fork and taking a bite before answering Daisy's question. "Oh, I'm from South England but, my Dad's family are swiss, that's where the surname comes from." she said, taking another bite of the lasagne. Yum this food was good. "Er, so where are you from?" She asked.

"Just call me Tenn, hope you won't forget it," she said starting to feel a little hyper again. "but if you all you have to do is to count until ten."
Finishing up her lasagne Maya turned again to Tennessee apologising for mistaking her name. Thinking again of writing to her Dad, Maya thought about asking Tenn whether it was possible to send a letter by owl. Was it a stupid question? Maya bit the bullet and asked Tenn anyway, if she never asked she'd never find out. "Er Tenn, I was wondering, can you send letters by owl from here?"

Ah, time to eat! Logan looked at all the food around him and blinked. WOW. That was a lot of food! Without hesitation, he began piling his plate with all the food that looked most delicious (which was basically everything) and began eating. Amazing!

"Oh my gosh, you should definitely try it!" she said excitedly. "Yes, it's played on broomsticks. With chasers and beaters and seekers! It's loads of fun!" Ariella said, taking a breath for air. She tended to talk abnormally fast whenever the subject of Quidditch was being discussed. "Well, you'll learn how to fly in flying class. Professor Vindictus is...." She paused, trying to find the right adjective to describe him, "Quite the character. But he's a great teacher!"

If he was a seventh year and wearing heels into classrooms then Kurumi was afraid of what he was like as a first year. Attending classes dressed as a pink rabbit?
The thing with Lea was, as Josh had explained to her on the platform, that she had essentially grown up non-magical, so all this was very new to her. Not just new, but unknown, just like Kurumi herself had been when she was a first year. So, as odd as it sounded, she sort of related to the slightly shrewd first year.
She did notice Tennessee looking at her, and she offered her a smile. Maybe Kurumi could take her baking with her in the kitchens sometime.
Kurumi smiled again when another student was grabbing cookies out of the air and...from their friend? Or sister...or...something. Kurumi wasn't too familiar with either lions to know for sure.
She did smile in appreciation when the other girl chimed in to try and get Lea to stop poking people with their wands before shooting another look back at Lea. If she was anything like her brother...this would be interesting...
Kurumi laughed and scooped a few vegetables on her own plate, nibbling on her chicken as she did. "You know, my father use to tell me that these were trees," she laughed, popping a piece of broccoli in her mouth. Probably his weird attempt to make her eat them. Not that she really needed some story to make her do so, she liked broccoli just fine.
Drumming on her goblet of pumpkin juice, Kurumi began to think about what Nimma had said. A name for the baby house elf..seemed like something that all the lions should think about together. She was sure there were a lot of creative minds here. "A name for a baby house elf..." she said, not really to anyone in particular.
Ariella couldn't help but notice her fellow Gryffindor and acquaintance, Kurumi, talking to some other Gryffindors across the table from her. She opened her mouth to say hello before her thoughts got to her. She Oh, Merlin. She probably doesn't even know who I am. She took a deep breath, waited until Kurumi was finished talking, and gave her a wave. "Hi Kurumi! How was your summer?" she said with a smile.

Lame? Well, Lea was entitled to her own opinion, but Kurumi wasn't about to argue with a first year about this stuff. She felt ridiculous enough being accused of kissing Josh to be honest. But then the little lion surprised her. Was she...calming down a bit? Kurumi had been denying the whole kissing thing from the start, but perhaps third time was the charm?
"I wasn't trying to do anything," she said simply. Which was true. She wasn't. All the initiative had been on Josh's behalf. "Your brother just wanted to tell me something and to give me his old tie." If Lea asked about what it was that Josh had told her, she wasn't sure if telling her that she had been told that Lea grew up non-magical and that Josh had specifically asked her to look out for her - she might not take too well to that request.
Her eyes became slightly cross when Lea and the older girl began to bicker. Yep, just like Josh to not take well to people telling them what to do. "If you want, you could discuss the matter with our Head of House. I am sure Professor Bentley wouldn't mind."

The Kurumi said something not to really her but it made her think. A name for a baby house elf. "Why are you naming a baby house elf exactly?" Drat, there she went again getting into business that doesn't involve her. Her manners were slipping being away from home and she hadn't really been gone that long. "How about Aditi, if it's a girl? It means free." She took a sip of pumpkin juice and thought about boy names, "Or Tait for a boy?"
"Father just liked making everything seem less serious and magical than it really was," she laughed. "It was his way of keeping magic alive in the home despite mother being so against it." Even make-believe games were frowned upon by the woman and was why Kurumi had to hide under the covers to read her book of fairy tales by flashlight. "He still does."
Kurumi looked back at Jezz and smiled. "Well, I was told that house elves cannot name themselves, so a witch or wizard has to give them one." Which pleased Kurumi because she really didn't want to keep calling it an it. "Oh, those are both very nice sounding names. Does Tait have a meaning?" Kurumi wasn't entirely sure, but she thought that the house elf was a little boy. Just to be safe, perhaps gender neutral names would be best.

I've had an interesting summer, but I couldn't keep in touch with anyone, I've practically lived like an average Muggle for months.' she admitted.
'Anyway, what's new with you?' Ariadne asked, trying to cover the sounds made by her starving stomach. Luckily, the headmaster's speech started shortly, which meant food would be there soon. Keeping quiet during the speech, Ari moved her hands excitedly at the news (for her, at least), that they would be celebrating 1000 years of Hogwarts. Wicked!
'So...Bentley's our new Head of House?' she asked Kurumi, after the general noise had died down and people, herself included, were helping themselves to Kurumi's delicious cookies.
"Welcome to my life," Kurumi laughed in response. Kurumi had to quite literally hang up her wand during the summer and almost forget that she was a witch. "Well, not all that much I suppose," Kurumi replied with a small shrug. She wasn't really sure how up to date Ari was on her social life, but Kurumi also didn't want to bore her with things she had already heard or things that she wasn't interested in. "I'm excited for OWLs this term, but that really isn't too surprising I suppose."
Peeking back up at the staff table, Kurumi smiled in Professor Bentley's direction before looking back at Ari. "Yes, and I was very surprised when I received an owl from her over the summer regarding my continuing to be a prefect. I had no idea that Madam Donovan was retiring." Which now left the school without a librarian. Sadness. Perhaps Kurumi could help in some way. She did spend enough time in there for it not to be too much of an extra strain.

I visited friends in France and London before returning home to Japan for the remainder of the summer. Spent some time studying for my OWLs as well. How about you?"

Ugh! Nessie was starving. She practically salivated over the food. Trying not to appear to be too eager she started piling her plate full of steaming food. Throwing her earlier fear of piggyness to the side and took a large bite of a roll and moaned at the flavor. Yum! She really missed the school food while away on summer break.

Grayson came to sit at the Gryffindor table, the house he was placed in. He sat down looked around and decided to appeased the hunger beating at his stomach. He scooped food unto his plate and began maneuvering through it all.
He was to begin his adventure at Hogwarts as a fourth year. His parents thought the change of scenery would help him. He had had a bad experience two years before and didn't seem to be readjusting at the same school. He was pleasant outside of school but became a completely different person when he was at school.

"I'm Kurumi," she continued with a small head bow, offering him the cookie she had just grabbed.

Soon enough he saw her talking to Logan... so he'd also been sorted into Gryffindor! With a small grin he slowly walked up to her, covering her eyes with his hands as he sat himself beside her, not saying a word.

Alex had put a few of her favourite things on her plate. Being as wise as she was, she only planned to have a little portion then have a big dessert. Alex always thinks of the best plans. She looked up the table for the mash potatoes and noticed it was by Logan. "Hey Logan could you pass me the mash potatoes please." Alex asked kindly smiling.

Prue glared at him slightly before she laughed. Watching him she also started putting a bit of food on her plate. Not much this time though, she'd eaten too many sweets on the train to have a proper appetite! She froze for a second, turning hopefully towards Ravenclaw table. Abby still no where in sight. "Nup, but she'll show up sooner or later. After all she can't have missed the train I think, she was over on the platform already" plastering a smiled on her face she tried to make it look like she wasn't worrying, but now she couldn't stop herself from fidgeting.

She laughed at the way he glanced at his plate before answering. It was kinda cute. Why did first years always act so adorably during the Start of Term feast? "Yeah, I love it here, and the food is brilliant, not to mention Kurumi's cookies" she stated, plucking another one out of the air and nibbling on that one. "Though my sister still hasn't shown up... who knows where she is... chances are she's already in the library studying for classes!" she said shaking her head. Abby was a weird kid.

Septimus sat quietly at the Gryffindor table. He adjusted his new glasses on his face. He was still getting used to the new feeling of seeing everything through a set of lenses. He was excited to finally be back at Hogwarts, but his face didn’t quite show it. He was deep in thought, as usual. He found he was often stuck in some kind of trance. He pondered this as the feast went on around him.
Kurumi looked over her shoulder, pushing some of her black hair out of her face and brushing her bangs so that they didn't poke her in the eye. "I am pretty sure that something interesting will happen this term," she laughed, jabbing her thumb towards the staff table. Professor Scabior was blowing pink bubbles for Merlin's sake.
"Ariella, hello," Kurumi smiled back. She remembered the girl from the few times they had spoken in the common room as well as Quidditch tryouts. "Summer was fantastic. I visited friends in France and London before returning home to Japan for the remainder of the summer. Spent some time studying for my OWLs as well. How about you?"
Laughing was becoming even more natural than ever before, "Well I like your fathers way of keeping things magical." Jezz really didn't want to go into her family dynamics so she let the things related to family drop.
"Well Tait means cheerful. Or maybe Tarun is means young," Jezz eat a little more as she thought about some more names that could work. "I don't know. I'll just write a lot of them down and slip it into the kitchen. Maybe one of mine will be picked." Oh she hoped it would be because that would just make for the best first year ever. She took a sip of pumpkin juice.

"Logan you're such a boy." All the food on his plate. Jezz laughed as she ate some more. "You never told me what your favorite color was."

"And thank you," she nodded when her cookies were complimented.

He pondered this as the feast went on around him.
"Pink bubbles?" Prue questioned. Seriously, were all the staff at this school loosing their minds? Oh why did she have to ask, the chances were that yes, they had already lost they're minds! "Things can never be normal here can they? Don't worry about it, they're so... addictive... every time your handing them out I try to leave and then get trapped and keep taking a few. Your great at baking them... plus they're cute! I'm sure you've got the most house spirit of anyone in our house!"
Turning to a boy who was sitting a few seats down she waved, hoping he noticed her. "Hi!" she said excitedly... maybe the cookies she kept eating were too much... too sugary. Oh well. Despite the fact that he did look like he was thinking she continued. "How are you? I'm Prue by the way" she said with a smile.
Seji noticed how Prue was fidgeting and looking around now that he mentioned her sister. Wait a go Seji, you just ruined all hope of having a proper conversation... he tried to give her a comforting smile... what was he supposed to do in a situation like this anyway? With a deep blush forming he gave her what was meant to be a comforting hug, pulling away quickly and looking down at his food. "She'll be fine Prue" he said, without looking up at her, hoping no one saw the way he blushed.

Merlin, she was hungry! She’ probably could eat the Giant squid, tentacles and all.
Before she could even say anything her plate already has something in it. Daisy had placed some chicken. "Thanks, Daisy," she said as she watched the chicken on her plate. She might just as well eat it now before the content off it start to pile up. She was about to poke the chicken with her fork when Lea spoke again.

...turning to face this girl.
If the girl's stare could only pierce then Tenn would have said Ouch! Those dark brown eyes were so fixed, nevertheless she loved her sapphire ones.
Tennessee stared back avoiding the urge to poke the young girl back just like what she did with Tanya. What on Earth is wrong with her? She's completely mental. Still she continued to answer back Kurumi and now Daisy. Ha! Tenn didn't want to waste her energy, their prefect would deal with it. Instead she just turned to the food on her plate and started eating. All this fuss is distracting her and she had been really starving. She poured some pumpkin juice on her now empty glass and once in a while continued to glance at them.

People had been enjoying their delightful meal probably except for one. She turned to Maya when she asked her about sending letters. "Yeah of course," she nodded. "That's the actual way of sending letters her in Hogwarts. Not that i have tried any other. I use it in sending letters to my parents for the past 5 years and it's pretty great. It's faster than snail mail i guess," she said as she tried grabbing up some pudding and putting it in her plate. Then she wondered, "Are you a pureblood, Maya?" Coz if that's the case she won't have any problem with her parents dealing with all the fuss of a bird delivering letters.

Logan chuckled. "Yeah they are brilliant!" he said nodding a bit. "So, Prue, tell me about Hogwarts." he said smiling at her.

Sipping some more on her pumpkin juice, Kurumi's violet eyes scanned the table and noticed another new lion that she hadn't seen before scooping some food onto his plate. "Congratulations on joining the pride," she smiled at him, offering him a friendly wave and plucking a cookie out of the air to hand to him.
"I'm Kurumi," she continued with a small head bow, offering him the cookie she had just grabbed.
Grayson looked up to see a girl, a very pretty girl with the most interesting eyes ever. He smiled and waved back at her."Thank you. I take it you're a lioness in this pride. A rather pretty lioness." he replied.
When she handed him a cookie he had seen her snatch from the floating batch."I like this pride." he said before accepting it and taking a bite out of it. It was really good."I heard about the food here but I didn't know it was this good." he remarked before he popped the rest in his mouth.
