I suppose that's just first-year jitters though," she added with a small laugh. "It's overwhelming for me too", Alex said. "I'm muggle-born so everything is a first for me. Sliding open the door, Maddy asked "Is it alright if I sit here"?.

Losing Rose in the crowd, Mikey quickly hurried onto the train and tried to save them a compartment. It didn't really much matter to him if it was empty or with a few people already, just as long as they were in a compartment. Pulling his trunk behind him, the nerdy Ravenclaw dodged through the people of the hallway. Seeing no empty compartments on this cart, he walked upon one with just one person in it. Might as well join them.
Sliding the door open, Mikey asked, "Can I join you? I lost my friend in the crowd and well, the other compartments are filled,"

It didn't looked natural to her but maybe it was the glare on her glasses that was making his hair look like that. "Come on in." she told him. She understood that the compartments were full. She just got lucky with the empty one that she found.

"Cool Nice to meet ya Im Maddy" she replied, also to the boy who had just entered the compertment. She noticed that the girl had an Amarican accent, very close to Maddy's Canadian one. The trunk she carried was small enough to slide under the seat so thats what she did. She could pull something out if need be. As for her owl cage, she set it on the seat. Only her owl Jinx was already at Hogwarts. Another thing Maddy noticed was the girls bag "Thats a nice bag you"ve got there".

Figuring she should probably explain why she had just offered this girl a seat in their compartment, Melanie introduced them.
"Alex, this is Silvia. Her and I met a bit ago on the platform. Her dad helped me get my two-ton trunk in here."

She thought she had heard some other students say something about a food trolley that patrolled the aisles. She rummaged through her bag until she found her small coin purse.
"I think I might try and find the trolley, I heard they have all kinds of weird magic candy," she said to her compartment-mates. "Maybe we can share some Bertha...Potts...oh, I don't know what any of it's called," she finished hurriedly, aware that her half-blood was showing.

Mikey hadn't noticed that someone else had joined the girl before him. she must have been pretty swift since he hadn't noticed her entering, or even walking down the hall. No matter, at least the small girl had company. Though Mikey did feel a bit awkward since he was older than both of them. "Oh, thanks," he smiled, taking his wand and shirking his trunk a bit for more room. "I'm Michael, or just Mikey for short," he said to both the girls.

Originally Posted by Mandana It seemed like that whole discussion over the summer hadn't escaped from his mind but Matt couldn't help but chuckle at it, honestly the whole moving into his new apartment was definitely amusing and it happened to take a bit longer than he originally thought it would. Well, that was thanks to the distractions. But there weren't a problem with those. "They were but I still would rather move them myself, magic can be useful for many things however I don't need to rely on it to move boxes or trunks for that matter." Just because he was of age, he wasn't about to just start using magic for everything. But he didn't want to be starting some sort of an argument over that, it would be rather pointless and honestly the last thing that he wanted at this point was to start some kind of ridiculousness over something stupid. As soon as the topic of discussion had turned to the thought that there might have been more new transfer students and first years then he had seen before, he couldn't help but furrow his brow slightly in thought; it was rather interesting. "Well I'm not going to complain about that per say, merely because there's more of a chance to see some of them end up in the house that in going to win the House Cup." Ah yes, this topic had returned but it was funny and he just enjoyed having this little competition with Stella since it had never failed to amuse him.
He smiled as soon as his girlfriend had commented on his sketches, well he just started to understand that he was actually quite good but most people who had seen them had seen them had all said the same. "I know you do. But now I have another painting that's hanging up in the kitchen at my house, my mom asked me to come up with something since things were pretty boring but I ended up working on my patronus since I've only seen it a few times." That definitely had been an interesting painting and he really liked it just because it meant a lot to him. "True and you know what, that wouldn't be much fun; I don't think Hogwarts would be the same for me without having you here." Definitely a thought that he didn't want to deal with, not now. Stella couldn't help but grin as Matt laughed at the mention of moving in to his apartment. Especially as she remembered liking havign him to herself for the few hours she'd been able to be over there before Talia had forced her to come home. Plus, it had reminded her of the day after that, when he'd given her her birthday present, which was also something she liked to remember. Especially as those memories might be what kept her going in a year. "True," she commented as he'd spoken, "But you weren't dragging my trunks along the train corridor, were you?" She couldn't help but still tease him a little, even if she didn't really mean it. Trying to do things without magic was good. Just because they had that extra ability didn't mean they could always take the easy way out after all. She'd learned that quite well from her father, especially the few times she'd gotten to visit her grandparents when she'd been younger. They hadn't been against magic, but she would have felt bad using it. If she'd been able to. There had been a few accidental slips, but once she'd started school, the trips had all but stopped. She remembered learning to do things without magic though, and it was nice learning that Matt shared that belief.
Of course, then things had goen on to the little competitive streak they played with occasionally, and she giggled. "There is. I'm looking forward to a lot of new Ravenclaws," she replied. She wasn't going to back down, not when it was amusing getting him to react. Especially as she knew it didn't really mean much. He wouldn't be with her if he really wanted Slytherin to win at all costs, and she smiled again as he went on to respond to her compliments about his sketches. "You did a painting of your patronus?," she asked. "Will I get to see it sometime?" She couldn't even remember if she knew what his was, but then, he didn't know hers either. That wasn't really one of the things they talked about, but she still wanted to see the painting. Thoughts about that got pushed back as he'd spoken again, however, and she got distracted. "I'm definitely glad I got to come," she whispered, smiling a little as she leaned over again and gave him another soft kiss on his cheek. She really was, especially as she definitely would only have memories if she hadn't been able to transfer. And even those would have been way less nice. Also less complicated, but she'd come to terms with what had happened early last term. It had all worked out for the better after all.

Her forehead crinkled up now as she stared at the boy who was still laying down looking extremely comfy. "What's so funny?"She questioned, her nose now in a squished shape. Was he laughing at her? Well, she'd be offended if he was because being funny wasn't her intent.Maybe he was laughing because she was being cute? Or..maybe he was laughing at something that had nothing to do with her? Val was hoping for one of the last two though she doubted it. Okay, yeah she couldn't deny she lived in pretty nice places. "Well...yeah..they are but, you know what they say the grass is always greener on the other side...besides New York isn't all it's made up to be!"Crowded. Extremely expensive place to live at too. He was smiling at her and she sent him a weak one back, a toothless one just a slight curve of her lips. Oh.So it WAS a prize? She pulled a face, "Oh how lucky I am."Her tone was drenched in sarcasm. The prize that was a teenage boy as her friend, a friend she was sure she wouldn't have much in common with. She still held no complaints though, she just liked giving the boy a hard time. ESPECIALLY him? "It seems someone has an ego."She stated in a "matter of fact" tone. She wasn't referring to herself or anything for the record, world! He was grinning though, a goofy one at that which made the brunette snort. [B]"Cute face."[./B]It came out sarcastic.
Oh gosh now he was deciding to be all smart with her. "I wasn't using it based on the definition, just as a way to shorten your name!" Did she even know he had a cheesy sense of humor? No. Did she even know if he liked corn or not? NO. It was just a way to shorten his name! Silly boy. "You should blame your parents for giving you such a strange name! They just had to have known that some day someone was going to call you Corny!"It seemed obvious to her! Yes, she was pushing the blame on his parents for giving him a horrendous nickname but she'd do anything to get the blame off herself! Heh. She watched him cross his arms now, making a face. "Oh gosh, don't POUT over it it."So sensitive. Goodness. It was just a nickname.
Valentine? "I've already heard that one!"Yeah, heard it back in America when she had been younger and a girl had picked on her over her name. She had gotten in trouble AND had chocolate milk spilt on her while at lunch. (Val's first sign of magic.TEHE!) "Besides, Valentine is just the male version of my name anyway so it's not too bad!"Of course, she wasn't a male or anything but it could be worse, right? Heh. As Valentina asked what was so funny, Cornelius gave a shrug and a friendly smile, "I just think you're funny." And that's the only information he decided to tell her, quickly moving on with the conversation, as she mentioned that someone had an ego, something that got his eyebrows to raise. "I wouldn't say ego," he decided with a bit of a grin and a shrug of his shoulders, leaning back into his seat as he took another bite of his apple. "Just a healthy level of self worth." Cornelius gave out a bit of a laugh at his own words. "I could say just the same about you, Valentina."
When Val pointed out that he had a cute face, sarcastically, Cornelius decided to ignore the sarcastic edge to it, and instead, grinned from ear to ear. "Valentina!" Cornelius accused with playful surprise, eyebrows raising. "We've only just met, and here you are, throwing your compliments in my direction!"
Cornelius followed his mocking with a warm-hearted laugh, assuring the girl that he was joking with her and not truly accusing her of flirtation. "Let's not bring my parents into this," Cor complained jokingly as she mentioned that the blame was on his parents for giving him a name that could eventually be nicknamed with Corny. "Let's agree to disagree," he prompted with a small smile, taking yet another bite of his quickly-disappearing apple. "I have mixed feelings about Corny," he admitted with a soft, exaggerated sigh. "Though it sounds like I love corn, or have a cheesy way about me... I can't help but think there's a bit of a ring to it." He dropped his head as though in shame.
In the next moment he had brought it back up in a flash, allowing his eyes to meet her own once more. "You've already heard Valentine?" he repeated with obvious disappointment in his features. "I'll just have to think of something better then..."

"I don't get what I did that was so funny but I'll take a compliment."Val said before crossing her legs and moving her arm on top of the arm rest as she watched her new friend sit in an obviously much more comfy fashion. The brunette eyed her dress for a few moments, regretting it for a slight second. It wasn't exactly to easy to sit in a comfy position when one was wearing such things. She wanted to look nice though, she had to look nice! She wanted to make a good impression on people, darn it! So, she didn't regret it for long. Her head tilted to the side a little bit, resting the side of her forehead in her hand. Aha. He was going to deny her claim of him having an ego. She laughed, knowing she herself would have said nearly the same thing. "Mhm, confident and not arrogant then, I see?"Val couldn't make a proper judgement just yet so she'd take the boys words for it, for now anyway. Yeah, he was most defiantly right there. Her hands went up in defeat, "Alright, you got me there! People like you more if you're confident though! Self loathing is totally annoying."And often she herself found it to be a bit attention seeking, especially when girls her own age did it. Sometimes it seemed a bit like a cry for attention as if they were fishing for compliments. It annoyed her.
-_-
She had met a comedic genius it seemed, a comedic genius who apparently ignored sarcasm when directed at him. She just rolled her eyes, playing with her side braid once again. "Take it as you will."Even though it was MEANT to be sarcastic.
Let's NOT bring his parents into it? Her brows raised, as if she had been faced with a challenge. " But what if I want to bring your parents into this, Cornelius?"She questioned. LOOK AT HER! She was going against this boy's wishes even if he was joking and surely annoying him already. Valentina felt a bit proud of herself as long as she didn't annoy the boy to the point where he actually left then she'd feel bad. It hadn't gotten to that point yet though, thank goodness plus he seemed to have a good sense of humor. It seemed like Cornelius could take jokes....as long as it wasn't at his name. Agree to disagree? Heh. Well then. She just nodded, "That works." Mixed feelings about Corny? Valentina couldn't say she had been expecting him to approve of the nick name to begin with. "Do you really think I was intending to give you a normal nickname?"Heck, was it even possible to give him a normal nickname with his name? Mixed feelings weren't BAD feelings though. "At least liking corn is a good thing! It's healthy!"She made a thumbs up with the hand her forehead hadn't been resting on as she laughed. "Besides, a cheesy sense of humor isn't exactly a bad thing either."The laugh grew even louder, WAY louder actually as he bowed his head in shame. "I win!"Her hands went up now as if she had won something before clapping them together. She was going to call him Corny if he liked it or not. DEAL WITH IT, CORNY!
She nodded at his next question. "Mhm. You know I met one guy earlier, and he gave me a real creative nickname. Bond Girl. "She hit the spy pose with the fake gun for a second before dropping her hands. "Apparently I have a Bond Girl name."She didn't know how but she did and it kinda excited her.

Cornelius watched as Valentina explained the benefits of the 'Corn' part of his name, mentioning that it was at least healthy. And then, as though afraid he wouldn't believe her words, she gave him a thumbs up to further convince him. Cornelius let out a large laugh immediately, unable to help but be completely amused with the way this conversation was going. And a thumbs up! A thumbs up! His laughter quieted down just to hear her explain that a cheesy sense of humor wasn't necessarily a bad thing, and gave a shrug as he settled back into his seat, small chuckles still erupting from his lips.
But it was then that her own laughter filled the air and he looked up just as she announced that she had won, something that got his own laughter to pick up once more. As Val began to clap, Cornelius erupted into a fit of laughs, falling over onto multiple seats once more and shaking his head, amusement in his features as his laughs quieted down once more. "You have not won, Valentina," Cornelius complained, flashing her an amused smile.
Cor laid back along the seats, turning his head to look at the girl as she explained that she had already met a guy that nicknamed her 'Bond Girl', something that provoked her to bring up her hands in a spy-like manner, obviously enjoying this new name. His eyebrows rose. "Bond Girl?"
He scrunched up his nose in slight distaste. "No offense to whoever nicknamed you that, but... I think I'll come up with my own." He flashed her a grin.

"No, I suppose it's scary for everyone, especially the first-years. Everyone gets a little nervous at the beginning of a new school year though, or at least, I always did," Melanie replied to Alex.
"I'm nervous too," said Silvia. "And both my parents and grandparents were magical." Quote:

With that thought, Melanie grabbed her purse and entered the corridor in search of snacks. "I think I saw the food trolley right up front," she informed as Melanie headed out.
Meanwhile Silvia reached into her bag and took out a few owl treats. Her barn owl Ptolemy was resting quietly in his cage on the rack at the other end of the compartment, but she didn't want him to be left out once they got their snacks. So she carefully stepped on the seat so she could reach him and slipped the treats in the cage, then returned to her seat to await Melanie's return.

He scrunched up his nose in slight distaste. "No offense to whoever nicknamed you that, but... I think I'll come up with my own." He flashed her a grin. "You know, I'm glad you find me so hilarious."It came out natural before she herself chuckled some more. Jeez, wasn't she a box of giggles today? She blamed Corny. This was most certainly all Corny's fault. She looked stupid and giggly and probably extremely annoying and she was going to put all the blame on him. He could take the blame or he could not, which was what he probably would do but she was still blaming him.He was laughing too though so things seemed to be good. She actually wondered if anyone on the outside heard their laughter.
He was funny too though and she'd admit it without shame. He, himself wasn't funny but more so his views on things, the way he acted. It was different than how Valentina acted and maybe that's what made it so funny. Maybe.
And he was still laughing? Know what that did? Made the Italian laugh even harder. She was crying now actually, crying from laughter just simply over the fact that he was still laughing in such a manner. It stopped suddenly though, hearing him state that she had not won. Oh no, he couldn't say that she defiantly won. She wiped her eyes for a split second before raising a brow. "I have too won!"She argued with him. She was going to call him Corny forever and ever and ever and that counted as victory. Corny needed to see that. "Mhm!"At his question. "You know, like the really attractive girls in those muggle spy films? Wait, are you pureblood?"OH. OH. She should have probably thought about that first before making a mention of her nickname and possibly looking like an idiot if he didn't understand it. "Well, I like it and it's my nickname so that's ALL that matters, mhm! But if you find a better one I'll be more than happy to let you call me that!"She pressed on. She doubted anything could be better than getting called Bond Girl. |

So she carefully stepped on the seat so she could reach him and slipped the treats in the cage, then returned to her seat to await Melanie's return. Melanie awkwardly pushed the compartment door open with her elbow, trying not to collapse the teetering pile of candy she was cradling in her arms. Grateful that the door closed by itself, she tipped the junk food onto the closest empty seat, not sure how much longer she could avoid being clumsy.
"I got some of everything!" she announced, grabbing a licorice wand and gesticulating towards the pile to imply that they could grab whatever they liked too.
She settled back into her seat as she unwrapped the foreign candy. "I ran into the Hufflepuff quidditch captain on my way back. Keefer...something or other. He seemed nice; helped me carry all this stuff back here," she said before taking a bite of the licorice wand. It tasted like...licorice. Kind of anti-climactic for her introduction to wizard-world candy.

She doubted anything could be better than getting called Bond Girl. Cornelius's laughter only picked up as Valentina's did, their laughter seeming to bounce off one another's and build until the slightest traces of tears developed in his eyes. Still letting out soft chuckles, he brought up his free hand to absentmindedly wipe any tear that had fallen, refocusing his attention to the girl who was now arguing with him. "Okay, fine, you have won Valentina," Cor agreed with mock reluctance, listening as she then began to explain this other nickname. "No, no, I'm half muggle, and I get the reference," Cornelius explained as he once again sat up, finding it difficult to finish his apple laying down. "I just don't like it as much as I'll like the one I'll come up with," he announced with a proud grin, unashamed of his opinion. "Again, no offense. I understand that it has it's appeals," he gave another shrug as he took the last bite from his apple, finishing his chewing as he threw the apple's core across the compartment and into the trash bin. "But mine's gonna be better."
He thought for a moment, once more leaning back into his seat as he began to consider the options. "Valentina." He let the word sit for a moment, thinking continuously. "Valen...tina." Cornelius glanced up at the girl in question, as though evaluating her face would make the process easier in some way. "Val...Len...Ti...Na." "Not Val...it's too obvious."
..... "Na would just be too little."
..... "Len...Ti...Lenti? No...Tilen? No..." "Lenny...?" He grinned.

Conrad had wandered up and down the entire train twice now, and hadn't found an open seat with any Slytherins. He'd have to take what he could get, apparently. After a little more searching, he found a compartment occupied by three girls eating what appeared to be an inordinate amount of sweets. None of them looked like Slytherins... but all that candy... "Hello," he said, poking his head in the door to the compartment, I can't find a seat anywhere else; can I sit with you? |
