Logan took a broomstick and walked to the others. He stood to the right of it...wait...that was the left, right? Wait no...right...left...right side, right?! He blinked and looked at the others. OH. He was on the left side. He blushed slightly and went over to the right side. He needed to learn his lefts from his rights...he then looked at the professor for further instructions. So far he made mistakes in every class. Ahaha. He wondered what D.A.D.A would bring... |
Vickers was standing off to the side gazing dreamily at the clear blue sky. But on hearing the Professor speak he blinked away the daze and moved to grab a broom, standing so that he was to the right of it. |
Vindictus was about to open the box of cookies from Kurumi when he noticed several students pick up brooms. Did they not understand that he said to go stand by a broom? He let out a very loud grumble of disapproval. "For those of you who managed to not touch a broom with your hands and move them, I thank you for listening and following my directions," Vindictus began and he started to pace up and down the makeshift aisle he created between the broom rows. He listened to Travis's question and addressed it as he continued with the directives. "Regardless of which hand is dominant, please place your right hand over your broom. Make sure that your hand is open and your palm is centered over the broom handle. Then in a firm voice say 'Up!' " Pause. "When done correctly, the broom should move upwards into your hand. As soon as the wooden handle hits your palm, grasp the handle. Remember that you must use a firm, commanding voice or else the broom won't respond. Begin!" |
Taylor held back a yawn as she place her right hand over the broom and said "Up" firmly. The broom flew up and she grasped the handle. EVen though Taylor is a second year she wanted to take the flying class. |
This was going to be an easy lesson for Izzy. She had ridden a broom many times before and would have no problem commanding the broom up. "Up," she said a bit firmly, but a bit lazily. It wouldn't be a problem with her broom. The only problem was that it wasn't her broom. It was a school broom so it just sat on the ground. "Up," she said much more firmly and stronger the second time. The broom jumped upwards into her hand and she grasped it firmly. Perfect! |
She put her hand over the broom,"Up!" She felt the broom come into her hand and she grabbed it and waited for further instuctions. |
Just about every year, Alex had a least showed UP to the flying lesson, and every year he found himself questioning that decision. He still hadn't managed to make it more than 10 feet off the ground without feeling light headed and nervous, but he was bound and determined to fix that. He wanted to be on the Hufflepuff team someday. Just...ONE game on the Quidditch team. That was all he needed. Alex glanced down at the broom at his side and sighed. He still didn't understand WHY they couldn't just bend down and pick it up before mounting it. It took about five seconds and seemed faster, especially if you had a stubborn broom. Still, he wasn't about to get Vindictus angry. Angry Vindictus scared him. Clearing his throat, he held out his hand. "UP!" he commanded. It instantly flew into his hand and Alex couldn't help but smile in relief. He shouldn't have been surprised...he'd gotten to this point nearly every time he tried to get on a broom. It was ascending that was going to be a bit more of a challenge. |
Logan felt an excited feeling shoot through him at the professors constructions. He stuck his RIGHT hand over his broom and cleared his throat "UP!" he said, but the broom did nothing. He sighed and tried again. "UP!" he said. Nothing. "UP! UP! UP UP UP UUUP!" he said. Still NOTHING! He growled under his breath. He took a deep breath. "Up!" he said with a more firm voice. It went up into his hand and he smiled. There we go! |
Oh Gideon was glad he had followed Vindictus' instructions to the letter, having been witness to him react badly in answer. Thankfully he remained relatively calm as he mentioned not having told anyone to actually pick up their brooms, just a little pacing but that wasn't hurting any students. Moving on towhat they were to do, the boy raised his hand from his side and hanging over the handle where it lay. "UP!" he commanded clearly, the broom responding easily enough. Once it was within reach, he grasped it in his hand's hold. That wasn't too hard, the Gryffindor looking back to the area between the rows where the professor still resided. |
Kennedy looked down at the broom. Hmm. Then he wondered if it would be as complicated as it had been the first time he tried it. That was what felt like a long time ago when Feenella taught him how. After that, he didn't have many complications with it. He shook his head, ridding himself of his thoughts and concentrating on the broom. He had to be firm about this. "Up!" he said, firmly. This time he didn't close his eyes, but did slightly flinch when the wood made contact with his hand. It worked! |
Though Harlow managed to make the quidditch team, she knew her flying skills weren't the best. Standing next to her broom with her right hand hovering over it she took a deep breath, "UP." she commanded and the broom shot up into her hand with more force than she thought possible with a broom. She yelped and promptly dropped the broom to nurse her bruised hand. |
Simple enough thought Oakey. He's done this millions of times with his Foster Father. Up! but nothing happened, Up! nothing again. He looked down at his broom to see if maybe it was defective. Up! he tired once more but nothing happened. He looked around to see if anybody else was having this problem. It didn't seem like it. He starred down at his feet then the broom and noticed that he was standing on the wrong side using his left hand. How embarrassing he blushed then quickly switched sides as if nobody would notice. Up! he tried one last time and the broom went right into his right hand with no problem. |
But what if the broom wanted to choose a side? didn't It get a say? Travis wanted to voice the question, but thought better not to. It was the first time in a while that Travis had been able to hold his tongue, instead of random outbursts. So it was an accomplishment. Yah, Go Trav. Trav made sure his feet were firmly on the ground in case the broom felt like hitting his hand and flying off. Cause that would be a big no no. "up." he said softly with his hand over the broom. However, nothing seemed to happen. Other people were getting it on their first try... maybe his broom just had an attitude. "Up!" he said again, but 5 times louder. This time the broom rose rapidly. Trav flinched and closed his hand quickly, but he'd closed it too soon, and the broom hit his knuckles. "Ouch... that wasn't nice Mr. Broom!" he said angrily as he held his closed fist against his chest in pain. Trav then realized that he had gotten extremely aggressive. "I'm sorry Mr. Broom, I shouldn't raise my voice." Wait. Remember what daddy said, 'no conversing with inanimate objects' "Up" he said once more, this time let his had stay open until he actually felt the wooden handle hit his hand, and closed it. Success! |

Mo watched the other students with WIDE EYES. He was scared. Especially when that one girl got hit with her broom. Pete's sake... this was DANGEROUS business. He should have worn a helmet or something. Gulping loudly he put his hand over the broom and after a moment of near hyperventilation he spoke loudly and clearly, "UP!" ... and nothing happened. Bugger! Furrowing his brow he squared his shoulders and glared at that broom. HOW DARE IT NOT OBEY HIM! Placing his hand over it once more he tried again, "UP!" OOOOOH! He saw it TWITCH. He was sure of it. A small smirk formed on his lips as he nodded his head determinedly and once more said, "UUUUP!" BAM. This time the brooom did as it was TOLD. Yeah. Mortimer owned that bloody broom. Beaming he gripped it tightly and looked to the Professor for the next set of directions. |
O______o No one told him this was a class for new riders. Oh, well. What else can he do? He was already here. Sneaking out just will lose him housepoints or worse, detention. Hand over the broom, Hades smirked as he glanced at the lying stick. "Up!" he summoned with a commanding and firm voice. As he realised the broom started to move upwards, he quickly grasped it before it went out of control. Nothing much from a rather experienced flyer. Wonder what they were going to learn today. |

But, but, but hadn't he corrected himself... wasn't that the whole point of going to the correct side of the broom and calling "up"? Not wanting to anger Professor Vindictus he gently placed the broom back on the ground. calling Up! while starring at Vindictus the broom shot into Oakey's hand no problem. |
SPOILER!!: Vindi When the word 'Begin' had boomed, Beezus immediately shifted and stood beside her broom, placed her right hand over, making sure that her palm was centered on the broom handle and said, "UP!" Instantly, the broom flew upwards into her hand. The young Ravenclaw grinned and looked at the Professor. She was hoping to ride her new Firebolt soon. |
"Now mount your brooms and place both hands on the broom handle. Make sure your hands are comfortable as they grip the handle firmly," Vindictus continued and walked over to where Travis was standing. "Those who are left-handed should have their left hand on top." And he resumed his pacing. "Don't grip the broom too hard. If you look at your knuckles and they're turning white, then you're gripping it too hard. Relax your hands until you see the color returning." He stopped and turned to face the class. "Would anyone like to share with the class how to steer your broom once you're in the air? Please remember to raise your hand before speaking." |
Taylor mounted her broom and put her left hand before her right hand on the handle. She gripped her broom so that her knuckles weren't white. Taylor didn't want to demostrate so she stayed quiet. |
Gideon mounted the broom as he had for as long as he had flown on one, the action quite natural to him by now even just by being a fifth year and spent 4 such years taking these flying lessons. His right hand was on top since it was his dominant hand as he placed them both around the broom's handle. However with the question being asked, he raised his hand so that he could answer. "Ye would control or steer the broom with the movements of yer body," he remarked at first starting his reply. "To go right or left, ye lean in that direction, leaning forward to simply fly straight ahead. " |
Sophie got a hold of the broom when it came straight up to her hand. She mounted the broom, placing her right hand before the left hand. She was kind of nervous but didn't hold the broom too tightly, as Professor Vindictus had told them. |
Oakey mounted his broom then raised his hand. Professor to steer a broom one would simply need to turn in the direction that you wish the broom to go. Turning left makes you the broom go left as does going right. Leaning back helps you go up while pointing down descends the broom. Oakey may not know his right's and lefts but you can't deny that he knows how to fly a broom properly. He was going to fly his heart out in this class today to make up for that small point loss. He was going to make 3 times as many points today. |
Following Vindictus' additional instructions, Beezus mounted her broom and gripped, though not too tightly, just enough the broom handle. A minute from now, they'd be flying! She listened however when Gideon from Gryffindor house gave his answer on the Professor's question. That was right, body control was also broom control. She raised her hand to give her idea. "I agree with Mr. Gert Professor, and also.. we must remember to maneuver slowly so as not to lose balance and when leaning forward to do it slowly or else we'd be rocketing." she hoped her answer hadn't gone overboard. |

Once the feeling had returned to her hand she stood over the handle of the broom. She stuck her right hand out, "Up." she said in a more reasonable tone. The broom jumped up into her hand as she closed her fingers around the handle. That was more like it. Quote:
She raised her hand, "Don't you just lean right or left." She stated. |
