Post #2 Hovering by the mass of flying squirrels, Vickers was grinning from ear to ear. Just how often would he get to study these mammals up close? Unbeknownst to him his broom started to float further into the gliding masses as he leaned eagerly forward. *FLOP* He felt his broom shake and he looked around to see if it was sput-sputtering like it was about to just drop, but he realized that there was a flying squirrel that landed at the end of his broom. And it just staaaaaaaaared at him. Bug-eyed Wizard meet bug-eyed critter. "H-Hello lil squi--" he started to greet before the squirrel jumped off, using his broom as a launchpad. He gripped the broom hard and tried to steady himself. Darn, there goes a really good close encounter. |
Post 6. However, when she said that it was cute. The squirrel seemingly took that as a mere snide remark for it was trying to get away from her grasp that instant. But it was so cute, she did not want to let it go! GRRRRRR! "Stay..stay..stay," she told the squirrel but still it struggled. She was about to let it go with care when suddenly, another squirrel from her left came darting towards her! EEEEEP! She practically lost balance as it passed her by an inch. Good thing that her reflexes were fast that she had the chance to pull the broom out of the way with all her might. Stupid squirrel, doesn't follow traffic rules. That was when she noticed that she wasn't holding the very cute squirrel anymore. Right, she released it accidentally when she took hold of the broom handle. Tsk, tsk.. "Kyut Squirrel..where are you?" Beezus called out as she flew past the other students and surveyed for her lost squirrel. |
Major Catching up: Post 1 Alyssa was flying on her broom, making sure that she kept alert, because the two times last term that the Professor had sent them to do something like this, he made a gigantic spider appear out of nowhere the first time, and the second time, they had to dodge and hit giant gum drops. Then she heard the rustling of wings and heard the Professor shout out “Squirrels.”Flying Squirrels? Great.’Alyssa thought to herself. Another flying creature but this time there were at least 20 of them. Alyssa knew that they were harmless, but they could still get tangled in your hair or if you didn’t keep an eye out for them, she could end up hitting one of them, which was definitely something she didn’t want to do. So as she saw them flying towards her, Alyssa prepared to avoid them. ‘Just like avoiding a bludger, only these have claws’ Alyssa told herself. She leaned forward on her broom and pointed the handle upwards, deciding that she would fly above them. Her broom immediately zoomed upwards avoiding the first two squirrels that had been directly in her path. Once she reached a safe height, Alyssa leveled out her broom, straightening back and pulling back slowly on the handle. At this height, she would be able to keep a better eye on them. |
Post #1 On Professor Vindictus whistle, Messer took off to the air once again. He was flying around enjoying the fresh air and made sure that he always keep alert to what ever are coming. The Professor said they have to keep alert all the time while they're flying. He never know what will come and get him up here, right? Then suddenly out of no where there were a lot of flying SQUIRRELS!?! O____________O Messer almost hit one of the squirrels but Thank Merlin he turned his broom right on time. |
Post 2 After Nicki had managed to dodge the first few squirrels she kept an eye out for more of them. As she turned around to make sure that there were none flying near her when she heard a scream in front of her. She quickly turned around to see a student headed straight for her. Nicki had to react quickly. She immediately leaned forward on her broom and and getting a good grip on the broom handle, she pointed it up. The broom immediately flew upwards, taking Nicki away from the path of the screaming student. 'Whew. That was a close call,'Nicki thought to herself as she slowly straightened back and pulled slowly on the broom handle pointing it straight in front of her until she was back flying straight parallel with the ground. |
Post 2 Alyssa flew at a higher level until she noticed that the Flying Squirrels were splitting up and some were again heading in her direction, while others were flying directly below here. ‘Time for some major avoiding, Lyssie.’ Alyssa told herself. Alyssa kept an eye on the two that were flying directly in her flight path. She waited until they were almost within distance of her broom handle, then she quickly leaned to the right, directing her broom to the right and swerved to the right to avoid hitting them. She flew by them barely missing them by inches. |
Post #2 Messer managed to avoid one of the flying squirrels but when he was zooming forward, there are a few other squirrels in front of him. Right. Left. Right. Left. He was flying zigzag hoping to avoid that squirrels. He didn't want to hurt them. Out of no where there was one squirrel flying so fast toward him. He dive in and missed the squirrel just about an inch or two. Fiuh. That was close. |
Post 3 Alyssa then leaned forward on her broom and flew forward. When she heard a flapping of wings above and saw a flying squirrel flying directly towards her. ‘Evasive maneuvers, Lyssie. Like RIGHT NOW!!' Alyssa thought to herself. She quickly leaned forward on her broom, moving closer towards her broom handle. The broom immediately sped forward. She then leaned to the right, directing the broom away from the path of the squirrel and turning to the right. She surveyed in front of her to make sure that that there wasn’t anybody or any creature flying in front of her, but when Alyssa glanced back to see whether she had managed to evade the squirrel, to her dismay she noticed that the squirrel seemed to be still flying after her. Alyssa decided that she need to use a different tactic to get away from this specific squirrel. |
Post 5 It seemed to have worked for as the wind blew through his hair because of his movement, Gideon didn't feel the little tell-tall grippers of the flying squirrel. Of course it could have been because it was hanging from his actually robes which blew backwards as he flew but he couldn't be sure. So with a quick glance backwards, he decided to look and see for himself. Sure enough the little fella had fallen off and was now flating on a breeze as it allowed the skin and fur flaps between its limbs to catch the air. "Now to escape further...." Gideon mused aloud turning back to look straight ahead and pulling up from his downward movement. The Gryffindor turning slightly to the left before taking off straight for one side of the pitch. He was still within the vicinity but beneath the most densely populated traffic spots of the flying creatures. |
Post #3 Vickers gripped on his broom handle trying to navigate out of the squirrels' flight path, but with zooming furballs whizzing past his ear every few seconds he started to worry that he might hit them accidentally. Maybe he shouldnt worry about him hitting them..... *WHAP* Vickers lunged sideways on his broom and found himself on its underside. Again. Something hit him on the head. As he struggled to pull himself up, he came face to face with the perpetrator. SQUEEAK A squirrel stared down at him as it rested on his broom. Frowning, Vickers tried to get right side up but just as he struggled to do so a few more flying squirrels descended on the broom's shaft. What is with the squirrels congregating on his broom? "H-Hey squirrels..." the Ravenclaw uttered feebly. Man what great luck being able to literally have these things at the end of his nose. Could've spent a few more hours just watching their every movement.... except his arms was getting tired. "Errr hey little squirrels.... can I have my broom back please?" All three squirrels turned their beady little eyes and stared him down. Who says they're gonna give the broom back to him? *Gulp* |
#7 Silvia zoomed toward the center of the pitch. Many of the squirrels had made it to the other side, so there were fewer to run into. This is sort of fun, she thought, as she ducked to avoid a squirrel. She seemed to be getting the hang of this pretty quickly. Maybe her reflexes weren't as slow as she originally thought; they just needed a bit of tuning up. Silvia began to circle around, as high as the charmed broom would let her go. Then she tipped the broom handle downward, zigzagging a bit. Another squirrel appeared coming from the right, and she quickly swerved out of the way and leveled the broom, missing it by only an inch. That was close. One stubborn and determined hitchhiker and a few less strands of hair were enough for her for one day. Class should be ending soon, she noted, so she made her way closer to the ground. |
Post 3 Nicki flew around trying to avoid some panicked students and especially the squirrels who seemed to know where they wanted to go, but because of the students getting in their way, were getting misdirected. Nicki decided to fly at the current height she was now because it looked like there were less students up here and so far there was no sight of a squirrel. Suddenly she heard a flapping sound coming from the top of her. She looked up and sure enough there was a squirrel hovering above her. Nicki quickly leaned forward on her broom and sped away on her broom. As she flew away, she looked up to see whether the squirrel was following her. Thankfully it decided to fly away in the opposite direction. 'Now that was a close call,'Nicki thought to herself. |
Post 4 Alyssa turned back again to make sure that the squirrel was still following with her. Unfortunately it was. ‘Merlin! Has it taken a liking to me or what? Why doesn’t it go follow somebody else. ’Alyssa thought to herself. Alyssa decided that it was time to ‘lose’ this squirrel. So she leaned forward on the broom and moved closer to her broom handle. The broom immediately picked up speed. Alyssa felt the wind fly by her as she flew past her fellow students. Unfortunately, she could still hear the flapping of wings behind her. ‘Okay time for evasive maneuvers again. We need to resort to drastic measures this time,’ Alyssa thought to herself. She first maintained her speed for a couple of minutes, and when she felt the moment was right, Alyssa tightened her grip on the broom handle and making sure that her thighs were gripping the broomstick tightly and that she was firmly seated and balanced on the broom, she quickly pulled back on the broom handle bringing the broom to sudden halt, while laying her body flat against the broom handle. As she felt the squirrel fly right over and past her, Alyssa quickly straightened back up and leaning forward on her broom, she pointed her broom handle downwards and decided to mingle with the rest of the students. |
Post 4 Nicki tried to steer clear of any of the students and the squirrels who looked like they were just as afraid of the students, as the students were of them. Whenever a squirrel flew near her, Nicki would lean forward on her broom and turn her broom either left or right, speeding off in the opposite direction to avoid colliding with it. So far that decision seemed to work. But then without any warning, Nicki heard a flapping sound near her and she turned in time to see a squirrel flying right at her head. Nicki panicked and instead of leaning forward on her broom and speeding off, she instead leaned forward and pointed her handle up towards it, which resulted with her flying close enough to it, for it to panic and tangle it's claws in her long hair. "Get away from me,"Nicki slapped at it, trying to remove it's claws from her hair. "Get away from me. Let me go. Someone please help me." she called out for help. |
Post 5 Alyssa flew down to where the other students were trying to avoid the other squirrels, when she heard a student call for help. She turned to see the girl struggling to stay on her broom as she tried to remove a squirrel that had its claws in her hair. It was Nicki Granger, Alyssa’s Flying Lesson friend from last term. The poor girl was really a good flyer but lacked confidence. Alyssa quickly leaned forward on her broom and sped towards Nicki. When she reached Nicki’s side, she straightened up and slowly pulled back on the broom handle until she was hovering next to her. “Don’t beat at it or scream, Nicki. You will only aggravate it more. I’m going to try to get it off you.” Alyssa yelled over at her friend. Reaching into her jacket pocket, Alyssa pulled out a red apple. She had heard that Flying Squirrels loved fruit. So Alyssa shoved the apple up the squirrel’s face. Once she got its attention, she quickly threw the apple as far away from both Nicki and herself. The squirrel immediately disentangled its claws from Nicki’s hand and flew away after the fruit. “Are you okay, Nicki?” |
Post 5 Nicki was relieved when someone came to help her. She was afraid that she would never get the squirrel away from her. Then she realized that she recognized the voice. It was Alyssa Potter, the same girl who helped her out with the Giant Spider during their last term Flying Lesson. "Yes I am okay. Thank you for helping me out. I guess we should continue flying just to make sure that we don't attract anymore squirrels." So Nicki waved goodbye as she headed towards the other end of the field where it looked like there were more students and less squirrels flying near them. She leaned forward on her broom and sped closer to the other students and when she reached them, she straightened back on her broom, pulling slowly back on it, to slow it down as she neared the students. Then she leaned to the left and pointing the broom handle to the left she turned a complete circle until she was facing the other end of the field. |
Post #3 Messer was flying peacefully. It seems that the flying squirrels already gone but he felt something weird in his back. It feels like something was crawling there. He was trying to touch his back with his left hand while his right hand still gripping the broom handle so he won't fall off. But nothing was there. Maybe its just his feeling. Then suddenly, the young badger saw a tiny claw in his face. Did he just grew a claw in his head? And he also heard a tiny squek. What was that? He turned his broom but he didn't see nothing. Squek! That voice again. It comes from his head. He reached his head and "SQUIRRELS!" He almost lose his balance because of that. But it seems that he wasn't the only one who was taken back. the squirrel made a loud squek and it also managed to scratch his head. "Auch!" He made a sudden move with his broom. |

Post 6 SPOILER!!: Alyssa helping the boy As Nicki hovered with the other students above the ground, she noticed that Alyssa was trying to help another Hufflepuff boy who looked like he was in the same predicament as she had been earlier, only he looked like he was going to fall off his broom. At the height he was flying at right now, he was most likely going to hurt himself badly if he didn't regain his balance on the broom. Nicki decided that she had to help too. So she leaned forward on her broom and immediately flew forwards towards Alyssa and the boy. When she neared the pair, she straightened back and slowly pulled back on her broom so that she was hovering next to Alyssa but a distance away from the struggling boy. "Listen to Alyssa. She knows what she is talking about." Nicki told the boy. |

Post#4 The squirrels just squeaked amongst themselves, ignoring that struggling Wizard on the underside of that broom. Vickers couldnt really complain. He had an excellent observation spot. Unfortunately its one where if he losses his grip he'd be doing his nature observations from the Hospital Wing. His legs were still hooked at the end of the broom, trying to use them to prop himself back up. That caused the broom to wobble in the air and started to spin around. And the squirrels? They stopped their squeaking. But started to hop in place... HOP HOP HOP And they started to squeak again. More excitedly this time. They got their own personal carousel. How awesome is that? |

She quickly glanced back to see whether the squirrel was following her and when she saw that it had indeed taken the bait, she waited until it got closer to her before she threw the apple as far away as possible from her. She immediately, leaned forward and pointing her handle up, she flew upwards. She straightened back up and once she was flying paralle to the ground, she leaned to the right, flew back way to where Messer was. She turned back one last time to see whether the squirrel was still chasing after the fruit and was glad to see that it was. When she reached the boy, she slowly pulled back on her broom until she slowed down and was hovering next to him. "Are you okay, Messer? Thank goodness you didn't get scratched by it or fall off your broom. Next time always remember, that no matter what happens you need to keep your hands on the broom handle and maintain your balance on it at all times."Alyssa smiled at him before she flew off to join the other students. |

A few second after Alyssa took off, the squirrel flying toward her. Looks like someone was hungry. He was glad that he was free from that horrid creature. Messer didn't understand why some of the girls said that squirrels are cute. That creature was a beast! He steady his broom with his right hand while he bring his left hand to his forehead where the squirrel managed to leave a small scratch. "I'm fine, Alyssa." Just a little scratch didn't hurt him. "Yes, Mam!" He answered her before she flew away. He decided to return flying once more and this time he need to avoid those creatures. |
Post 6 You're running away from a squirrel? A flying squirrel...ok...but still! Not exactly the act of a brave lion that Gryffindors claimed to be. Gideon sighed and pulled back on the broomstick, breaking off his momentum. No running...just avoiding, he mused to himself. Then with a few swift turn once more he was facing the area with the most students flailing around dealing with the little buggers. He narrowly dodged to avoid a squirrel that nearly collided with him as it flew from a classmate's broom in escape from the younger student's own manuevers. At least this one didn't manage to cling to him in passing. |
post 2 Laura looked around as she tried to avoid the flying squirrels it was a good thing that she was too busy or she would have told the Professor that squirrels weren't suppost to fly, as she swerved to avoid one she realised she had flown into another. "Someone get this thing off me." Laura screamed, seriously didn't the boys in the school know they were suppost to protect girls, that was their jobs make sure the girls didn't get hurt, well the next boy Laura saw would get a good telling off from her, she didn't care who he was or when she saw him. |
