Playing catch up

Alyssa raised her hand."The zodiac is the astrological signs. There are 12 of them. The Western zodiac is based on the Earth's relationship to fixed, designated positions in the sky, and the Earth's seasons".

Lady of Light 02-27-2012 01:13 AM

Evelyn chewed on her lower lip in though. She remembered studying it in her previous school so she raised her hand again. Gosh, she definitely must be looking like a nerd right now since she never was in the habit of answering every question in class.

"Well, the western zodiac is largely a form of divination. It actually involves the construction of a horoscope for a person, based on the position of the stars."

sweetpinkpixie 02-27-2012 01:15 AM

What the Western Zodiac was based on? Kurumi wasn't entirely sure she understood the question and was a little disappointed they were not going to be discussing the Chinese zodiac that she was more familiar with. So...what was is based on? Constellations? But they had already established that...so it that didn't seem like a likely answer at the moment.

Putting more practical notions of Astronomy to use in her brain, Kurumi thought a bit more before raising her hand. "Do you mean fixed designated positions in the night sky in relationship to the Earth and its seasons?"

WhittyBitty 02-27-2012 01:27 AM

Amelia couldn't help but be happy that she had earned more points. She knew a fair bit about the Zodiac and Astrology as they were her strong suit in Divination.

She raised her hand again now. "Do you mean as in the elements that the twelve astrological signs are grouped into? There are the elements of water, air, earth, and fire." She wasn't too sure if that was what he was asking for.

"Both of you are correct and are awarded a point each," Thereos replied. He knew that his next question should be easy for the younglings. "It has been mentioned by several of you that there are twelve signs in the zodiac. What are their names?"

Lady of Light 02-27-2012 01:33 AM

Heh. Twelve zodiac signs? This was easy. Evelyn raised her again. "Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn." The girl ranted off.

At this point, Evelyn started to take notes. Honestly, if she didn't, she was definitely going to forget what they'd discussed.

sweetpinkpixie 02-27-2012 01:34 AM

Not wanting to list off every single sign, Kurumi settled for naming only a few to give other the chance to contribute. More specifically, the fire signs that were more strongly associated with her family. So, Kurumi raised her hand once more. "Signs that are associated with fire are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. Leo falls on July 22 to August 22, Aries March 21 to April 20, and Sagittarius November 22 to December 21."

WhittyBitty 02-27-2012 01:35 AM

Oh, well this question was the easiest for her to answer so far. She raised her hand again. "They are: Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, and Sagittarius."

Holmesian Feline 02-27-2012 01:36 AM

Gideon was staying quiet as Thereos started the lesson, asking various questions on the subject of astrology and the zodiac. The fifth year was paying attention, if anything taking notes instead of answering anything aloud. Figuring he might as well participate somewhat he tried to remember any of the signs he remembered off the top of his head.

"Well there is Aries already mentioned," he started to say remembering the birthday present to Selina last year. "Then Leo," Aunt Kat... " Capricorn," Mum and Dad, " and Sagitarius." That was himself in December. That was all that came to mind though h was sure others knew the rest.

AlwaysSnapesGirl 02-27-2012 01:46 AM

Vashti was never much of a Divination person, and it was more than evident now when she didn't know basically any of the answers to the previous questions. But finally there was a question she was pretty sure she knew the answer to, so she raised her hand. "Their names are Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, and Capricorn."

FireboltAvis88 02-27-2012 01:56 AM

Alyssa quickly raised her hand,"Professor there's Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius and Capricorn." Alyssa took a deep breath after reciting all 12 signs.

TakemetotheBurrow 02-27-2012 02:02 AM

Ella didn't know all the signs, just the few she had heard of or read about. She raised her hand anyway, wanting to make an attempt. "I know of Virgo, Libra, and Cancer and Leo." she said, jotting down any others her classmates said.

"Four points each to those who named all twelve signs of the zodiac," Thereos announced.

"One point to each of you for your answers." He paused and continued. "The twelve signs are divided into four elements fire, earth, air and water. Fire and air signs are considered masculine, while water and earth signs are considered feminine. The twelve signs are also divided into three qualities, Cardinal, mutable and fixed."

"There are seven heavenly bodies known to the ancients and are believed to represent the seven basic drives in every individual. Can anyone tell me the names of these seven heavenly bodies?"

sweetpinkpixie 02-27-2012 02:47 AM

Kurumi cocked her head to the side. She wasn't entirely sure about this one, what he was asking once again, but there were some myths back home revolving around the seven days of the week and the planets that had heavy influence on them. So, giving it a go, Kurumi raised her hand again. "Would those be, the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn? They each influence one of the days of the week, which they were named after. The Sun and the Moon being the more obvious of the seven, Sunday and Monday, whereas the others are derived from the names of gods and goddesses in Norse mythology but have an association with one of those planets. Tuesday with Mars for example."

Vickers raised his hand before replying "Professor, they are the Sun, the Moon, Mercury,Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn."

Lady of Light 02-27-2012 02:53 AM

Evelyn stopped taking notes when the professor asked the next question. Huh. She wasn't sure about this but she was going to give it a try. She'd been doing pretty well..surprisingly.

She raised her hand and said slowly, "Saturn, Jupiter...Mars, Sun and erm...Venus, Mercury and...the Moon."

TakemetotheBurrow 02-27-2012 02:55 AM

Ella didn't know the answer to the next question asked so she copied notes, listening intently to her classmates

Uncle Moose 02-27-2012 02:59 AM

Professor Oakey finally spoke up and raised his hand, the heavenly bodies would be the sun and the moon, while the remaining five are the planets Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. He lowered his hand then asked Why are the sun and moon two of the seven? Why not Earth and Pluto they were decent planets. Why not Earth or Pluto He decided to throw that in there as he had thought about it hard enough.

FireboltAvis88 02-27-2012 03:01 AM

Alyssa raised her hand,"Professor could they be the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Sun, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. They are known as the seven heavenly bodies."

WhittyBitty 02-27-2012 03:02 AM

This was another question that Amelia didn't find at all hard really. She raised her hand. "They would be: the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn."

MysteriesOfFate 02-27-2012 03:04 AM

Finally. A subject that Carigan could excel in. Her mother did divination for her career, she knew she could do this.

"Professor. The seven heavenly bodies are Saturn, Mars, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, the Sun, and finally the Moon." She said with confidence, not even faltering.

"Much thought was placed into your answer, Kurumi. Two points for your efforts," replied Thereos.

"As mentioned earlier by a few of your classmates, the twelve signs of the zodiac are divided into the four elements of fire, earth, air and water. Fire and air signs are considered masculine, while earth and water signs are considered feminine."

Suddenly, Thereos picked up the textbook and held it up high for the students to see. "Today you are going to construct a natal chart. This type of chart is based on the time and location of your birth, and can help you gain an insight to the type of person you are. The textbook is to be used as a reference."

"The first step is to draw four concentric rings inside the circle of your chart. Once you've done that, section it off into twelve pie sections and place numbers in the innermost ring one through twelve."

He walked around the room and watched as the students started drawing.

"Does anyone know why there are twelve slices?"

sweetpinkpixie 02-27-2012 03:46 AM

A small smile appeared on her lips when Thereos complimented her. Thank you grandmother for those little pearls of wisdom and then grabbed a fresh piece of parchment to begin doing this chart...which sort of sounded really really complicated.

She glanced up again when he asked about the number 12. Well...12 constellations...12 months in a year... Kurumi raised her hand again. "One for each month of the year?" she asked, more than a little unsure.

"Let me give you a hint," Thereos announced. He knew that if Kurumi was unsure, then the others would welcome a little nudge in the right direction. "It involves the zodiac."

FireboltAvis88 02-27-2012 03:54 AM

As Alyssa listened to the Professor, she pulled out a piece of parchment and started drawing the Natal chart as he had described, she raised her hand to answer the next question. "Professor do the 12 slices represent the 12 zodiac signs?" She was hazarding a guess since they had been talking about the zodiac signs earlier.
