Minerva quickly moved her wand "Protego!" has Justin said the disarming charm. The spell was blocked. "Expelliarmus" Minerva said doing the wand movement to see if she could catch him off guard.

Laura looked at Jen and smiled. "Maybe your wand is ill." Laura sighed before shouting for the Professor. "PROFESSOR we have an Ill wand here, what should we do, I was thinking maybe taking it's temperature."

Jen looked at Laura "Don't be silly Laura. How about Ill cast pratago again and you use expeliarmus to fdeflect it back at me."
Jen ppointed her wand at Laura.
"Pratago!" A light of magic erupted from the wand and headed straight taward Laura.

You can try and disarm me again Alyssa Oakey said. I'll try the Shield Charm. Oakey had done the Shield charm plenty of times already to have a good feeling with it. What he really wanted to try was the extra wand movement to see if he can improve it just a little. He walked a fair distance away from Alysaa and took what he thought was a pretty good defensive stance ready for Alyssa to cast her spell.

"Okay thanks. This will give me the chance to try the disarming charm again. Ready? EXPELLIARMUS!! Alyssa called out, waving her wand in a circular motion followed with a swift upward stroke. A beam of light immediately shot out and headed towards Oakey.

Alice waited for Maxwell to cast the spell, but surprisingly, when he did, she was a bit shocked. The ball of light came at her with blinding speed and she was barely able to dodge it, the light skimming against her stomach in its haste to crash into the wall. Sparks flew into the second year's long blonde hair as she coughed from the smoke billowing from the burnt plaster. "That was great, Maxwell!" She said in a raspy voice as she cleared her throat, beaming at the boy. She was sure as anything that if she hadn't moved in time, the spell would have hit her square on and she would have gone flying, her wand ripped from her hand.

Now, if only she could cast her charm that well.
The girl steadied her wand, holding it up and moving it in the upside-down interrogation mark, as the professor had instructed. The tip of her wand started to glow as light flew from her wand and toward Maxwell. "Expelliarmus!" she said, and hoped, for better or for worse, that it would work.

With the beam of light headed right for Oakey He quickly swished his wand in the upward arching motion and then added the extra horizontal motion and cast Protego! He watched as blue aura like shield quickly expanded itself and disappeared. The Disarming spell Alyssa had cast finally reached his area but bounced off the invisible (and larger) shield Oakey successfully caste. Nice Try Alyssa! He called across to her.

Glancing from girl to girl, and of course the young boy as well but her attention was mainly focused on who would be his partner, there was that slight pause in which could have gone down either road. Either one would step up, or no one would. "Oh! Perfect." she smiled. And already starting with names.

Hearing that unmistakable loud yell for her, the reason was more of the cause for her sigh than the...person. Although, she did become rather alarmed once she heard the spell leaving the girl's mouth. Throwing up a shield between the two girls, Medea frowned and walked the rest of the way to them. She didn't know what spell that was, but she was pretty sure it's affects wouldn't be that of a shield charm. "Miss Emery." she started, not quite sure where to start. "That was...good, but let's try it again. The incantation is protego. Pro-TAY-goh. And remember the upward arcing flick I showed you. Miss Hyde, if you can try disarm her again..."

ooc: Remember, protego is the incantation for the shield charm. Expelliarmus is the disarming charm.

Sierra grinned wickedly as she saw the girl's wand fly from her hand and scatter across the floor. It was good to see her little 'get them when they least expect it' tactic had worked. The girl was back on her toes right away, though, and her wand was back in her hand. Speaking of said wand, she'd cast the Disarming Charm just as quickly as she'd scooped the wand up. Sierra had been expecting that, though. Weren't they meant to be practicing the Shield Charm, too?

With an upward arc motion, she said, "Protego!" While the shield formed around her, she took the moment to try and disarm her opponent again. Waving her wand in the 'd' motion once again, she added, "Expelliarmus!"

Ariana was upset about her bracelet but didn't let it distract her from protecting herself she quickly shouted out "protego" in what she thought was enough time but didnt do the spell right and was hit, her wand leaping from her hand and her being knocked back just a few feet this time. "crap, why didnt that work!? she asked no one in particular

Justin knew what she was trying to do , but alas , he was too quick for her. " Protego1' he said as he made the vertical motion with his wand blocking her spell. He looked at her and just smiled wide as he could see she wanted so badly to beat him at this game.

Vashti returned the smile. "Nice to meet you," she replied. "I'm Vashti." And now that they knew who the other was, it was time to practice those spells, yeah?

It seemed they were allowed to practice the Shield Charm now as well, but Vashti wanted to practice a bit with the Disarming Spell. She was sure she was due for some practice with it, though practicing the Shield Charm, especially with expanding it, wouldn't be so bad either. So whichever one Amelia wanted to do would be fine with her. "Which one do you want to practice?" she asked.

"Thanks. Do you want me to try disarming you again or do you want to switch positions?" Alyssa was hoping that he'd switch so that she could practice the Shield Charm.

Sky beamed when she managed to disarm Beezus. "Thank you," she said, making sure she had a good hold on her wand. Then she heard Professor Romanos' cue to start practicing the sheild charm. Okay then.

"Sounds good to me." She moved her wand in the required upward arc while reciting the spell. "Protego!" She watched, slightly transfixed as the sheild appeared in front of her.

Maxwell braced for impact, ready for the spell to hit and then last second he remembered 'Wait, we're allowed to use shield charms now' "Protego!" He shouted as quickly as possible and the spell was blocked but the impact knocked Maxwell on his butt. He laughed and got to his feet. "Nice one, Alice!"

Minerva shrugged disappointed that she didn't beat him. "Oh well I guess your to fa...Expelliarmus" she said quickly making the wand movement.

"Right sorry professor." Jen said
she took her wand again
"Protego!" She said as she moved her wand in a flick up.

Holy hufflepuff! she'd beaten him! Justin's wand flew from his hand and the look on his face said it all. He stood there for a moment bewildered about how she had bested him. then he walked over to pick up his wand and he just looked at her still astonished that she had disarmed him. as he stood there he said " Expelliamus. " though his spirit was bruised a bit.

Minerva laughed at his surprise then he went and picked up his wand, but she was ready for any tricks and when he tried to disarm her she jumped doing the wand movement "Protego Sorry Hun., but your going to have to be faster then that."

"Okay, ready?" she said. Silvia pointed her wand one more time at her friend, focused on the spell as much as she could, and said "Expelliarmus." The wand seemed to yank out of the girl's hand and fell clattering to the floor just a few inches in front of Alex's feet. "This may not be as hard as it seems like at first."

"Maybe we should start trying the shield charm as well," she said, when the professor had given the go-ahead to practice it. Silvia followed Alex's lead in practicing the wand movements for the protego spell. "Should we try casting the shield charm by itself first, and then add in expelliarmus once we feel we've got it down?" she asked.

"That's okay. I'm okay." He said while getting himself up from the floor. "Okay. That's sound good to me." But this time he need to react faster or he might ended up in the floor again and that would be embarrassing. Nope. He won't late that happen. One was enough.

When the young badger saw his partner started to back away, he gripped his wand in his right hand. "I'm ready!" he said. He did an upward arching flick with his wand then added the extra horizontal motion "Protego!" he said clearly. Suddenly the shield formed in front of him and he saw it blocked Ella' disarming charm. HE DID IT! He managed to cast the Shield Charm! YAY! Go Him!

Alyssa decided that while she waited for Oakey to decide, that she would practice casting the Shield Charm. Swishing her wand in an arcing flick ending with a quick horizontal slash, she said,"Pro-TAY-goh". A bluish shield appeared before her, expanding sideways as she watched. 'Is it supposed to look this way?,'Alyssa thought to herself. 'Well I guess I'll know when I get the chance to try it out for real.'

Sophie's partner seemed to have disappeared, so she'll practice on her own =P
 

Sophie held her wand and made a upward arcing movemente while casting "Protego!" She saw a shade of blue light coming out of her wand on its way up. "Cool!" She had done that spell a couple of times before (Capture the Flag anyone? Heh) and wasn't having any trouble with it now. Hmmm... maybe she could try to make it stronger, as Professor Romanos had demonstrated.

Letting her shield drop, she tried it again. "Protego!" She flicked her wand upwards, then added an horizontal movement, like in a plus symbol ( + ).

A blue lighted shield floated in front of her and she blinked a couple of times, smiling widely. "Wicked!" Her eyes sparkled as she looked at it.

Vickers knew the shield charm. It was probably the one "fighting" spell he knew, and it was mostly learned out of survival from the awesome fun times that is the American wizarding high school. But given his awkward positioning and general nerves he totally failed to flick his wand--

-- which was sent flying out of his hand from Gideon's spell.

It took him a moment to realize it was rolling on the floor before he scampered after it. "G-Good one!" he chuckled awkwardly, wand in hand and returning to the spot where he stood. He knew how pathetic that was, and deep down he was kicking himself for failing to raise a shield when that was the one move from the entire lesson that he knew well enough. "You... you want to try that again? Or.... or maybe I should try the disarming spell...." he can pronounce it well enough, its just that he's never found himself in a situation where he had to actually cast it against anyone or anything.

Kennedy nodded and waited until Kurumi was ready to resume practice. He eyed the distance and felt comfortable with it. He took his dueling stance, prepared for the disarming spell. It kind of helped that Kurumi counted down to three.

"Protego!" he countered. Kurumi's spell rebounded off his shield and off into the air. He grinned, mostly to himself. For a minute there he had considered trying to perform the wider shield Professor Romanos had told them about, but then decided to go with what he was most comfortable with at the moment.

Without much of a warning, except for a small smiled, he did a firm d movement with his wand and said, "Expelliarmus!" She did see that coming, right?

Zhenya listened to Raven's suggestions and closed her eyes for a few moments to breathe and center herself. When she opened them she pointed her wand at Raven.

She felt much more confident now, because the first time had not succeeded - so it didn't matter if this one did or not. "Expelliarmus!" she said loudly and confidently.

Kurumi smiled as Kennedy deflected her spell - as was to be expected, but she hadn't been counting on him countering INSTANTLY!

Eyes wide, Kurumi's first instinct was to duck and cover, but her wand hand acted on its own, making an arcing movement ending with a quick horizontal slash. Realizing what her body was doing, Kurumi's brain registered the rest. "Protego!" JUST in the nick of time, Kurumi's magical shield went up and blocked his spell. The rush of adrenaline had her ears pounding and she took several deep breaths before speaking.

"A l-l-little bit of a warning would have been nice," she laughed shyly.

Or...was that his way of challenging her to a little duel right here and now? Hmmm...

"Expelliarmus!" she said, countering with her own.

Kennedy smiled sheepishly while he rubbed the back of his neck. "I...thought you were ready," he chuckled. Maybe next time he should say; let's duel? Technically it wasn't a REAL duel, but he liked the challenge. It was almost like a duel the only difference was that they could only use two spells.

WOW!

He quickly did an upward arc flick with his wand and said, "Protego!" She...she was fast as well.

Hehe! This is what he's talking about!

Suddenly more awake and alert, Kennedy backfired with the disarming spell. "Expelliarmus!" Now, he just had to watch himself to not get too carried away and use a different spell than the ones they were allowed to use.

"Sounds good to me", Alex said. She continued to practice the upward arching movement, but this time with her wand. She tried to focus and added "Protego" to the routine. Alex noticed a little something coming from her wand, but did not think that it would stop Silvia's Expelliarmus spell. "Let me know when you are ready to start practicing the two spells together", Alex told Silvia.

A sharp red light had appeared from Zhenya's wand and shot Raven. Her wand was flew away and fell down to the ground.

"You did it! Good job!" She said happily. Then she took her wand and continued the practice.

"Okay. Now I'll attack you and you can practice the shield charm. Are you ready?" she pointed her wand to Zhenya and

"Expelliarmus!"

Since it was obvious she wasn't going to send an attack he would. He did a quick "Expelliarmus." He then waited a few seconds for that to go by. Then he did another quick "Explelliarmus."

Ella watched as Messer was able to produce his shield before she was able to disarm him. She was impressed with the speed at which he performed the charm and smiled at him. "Wow Messer, that was great!" She hoped she would be able to produce the shield in the same manner and as fast as he was able to. "So I guess it's my turn now?" she asked her partner. She held her wand at the ready, looking at Messer with a confident smile. Confidence was key after all, wasn't it? "Alright, I think I'm ready! Try and disarm me!" she called, ready to act.

This was such a mess up. Ness bit her lip nervously as she looked at the two girls standing beside her. What to do? What to do? She honestly didn't know, which was why she was greatfull that someone else seemed to have been needing a partner too. Giving the Gryffindor student, and the Professor a small nod she showed her approval.

Now to get to work, she turned back to the Gryffindor captain and a small smirk lit up on her face. According to Adam, this Selina girl didn't like him much anymore, and according to him this girl had even punched him once, which Nessie thought was rather funny. Well if this girl did seem to have punched Adam, she must have been strong...which meant she must have been good at magic too right?If she was good...this duelling would be rather challenging, but then challenges we're supposed to be exciting..were'nt they?

"So umm..shall we begin?" she asked the redhead a little nervously.

"Thanks Ella." Messer grinned widely. He was really surprised that he managed to perform the Shield Charm before his partner's spell hit him. "Yes. Its yours now." he told Ella.

"Are you ready?" he asked while pointing his wand toward Ella and did the 'D' movement with his wand, he said "Expelliarmus!" A jet of light come from the tip of his wand toward the other first year. His eyes glued to the light hoping that it doesn't vanish into a thin air like before.

She felt the spell hit her and her wand go flying out of her hand in a neat arc towards the Captain. It was hard to be disarmed so easily, but it was for the lesson, no? And she hadn't been disarmed in a while, so that was a nice refresher. Hehe.

"Nice. I say we disarm you once before going back to the shield, since we did it wrong before."

Right. Maybe Kurumi should take back her comment earlier about Kennedy being an inner Puff? Kurumi had to laugh to herself though, thinking back about how they had been last term during Dueling Club all awkward and stuttering through their spells. Now, well, they were going at it with no restraint - besides only being able to perform two spells.

Kurumi tisked softly when Kennedy blocked her spell, but he WAS a snake after all. Ambition came with reflexes...or something. She was just going to pretend that that made sense. This time, she knew Kennedy would throw a spell back, so before he had even finished saying the words, Kurumi threw up her shield, "Protego!" and waited for the spell to hit before pivoting quickly to the right. ""Expelliarmus!"

Justin smiled widely at her. She was much better than him at spells but he'd do his best regardles of that fact. " Alright, Girlie. You asked for it. " he chuckled . Then he started back to the spot he had been standing, when over his shoulder without her seeing , pointed his wand and still able to trace that D motion. He whispered, " Expelliamus."

'You have?' Daisy was pretty sure she hadn't used the disarming spell much before, except for when her brother helped her once. 'I've had a little practice from my brother, but really not much.' She chuckled, 'it takes me time to learn these things, but once i've got them, they stay,' she grinned, looking down at her trusty wand which was probably the only reason she didn't fail every single class. She liked that wand a lot, and was always careful with it.

Daisy gaped at LuLu for a second, but grinned when she saw she was ok. 'I thought I'd used the wrong spell by accident then,' she said, bracing herself for LuLu's turn.

Daisy laughed softly as her wand flew out of her hand as her partner effortlessly casted the spell. 'We're both getting quite a lot better... Do you think we're allowed to do any other spells?' She asked LuLu.

Gideon relaxed and let out a breath as the spell hit its target and he watched Vickers' wand fly from his hand. It was certainly better then pushing the Ravenclaw back himself which was an effect if not focused correctly. "Thanks," he said, straightening to a normal stance as his partner retrieved his wand from where it had rolled.

When asked if he wanted to repeat the action, the Gryffindor meerly shook his head. "Nae...I'm good," he answered not needing to test the spell anymore since it had been successful the first time around. "Ye can work on disarming me this time," he added taking a deep breath and preparing himself for what was to come.

He did feel kinda bad that the shield charm hadn't be allowed at first but now it was. Maybe he would just allow the spell to hit him on premise? Give the Ravenclaw a boost of confidence. He raised his wand slightly in offense but not too threatening since he wanted his partner not to be too nervous when he cast.

It was clear this uuh, fourth, year wasnt going soft on Olivia. She would rather it be that way anyway, because Olivia was one of those kids that diddnt like being underestimated for their hight!
hhmmm, her opponent blocked Her spell, Olivia kept a poker face. She raised her wand and did an upside down "u" shape with her wand. Protego! her shild charm was strong enough to block expelliarmus.

Why was the boy looking at him weird? Lewis had thought that repeating what he was saying was a good thing with this one. He had thought he liked him because of it. What was going on!? Had he done something wrong?! WHY?!

Without realizing it, his lower lip had moved to form a little pout as he turned back to the boy again after listening to the professor. Err, yes. Obviously he wanted to work with him. Seeing as the boy apparently didn't like him when he repeated his words, Lewis settled with just nodding and muttering a "Yeah" into his general direction.

Lewis held up his wand and waited a little, just looking at him. Should he just...go first? They should probably practice the first spell first and then add the Shield Charm. "I'll start, 'kay?" He didn't have anything to lose anyway, right? So, clearing his throat he pointed his wand at the Ravenclaw Prefect and making a "D"-motion with it said, "Expelliarmus!" Hopefully he hadn't startled him with just starting like that.

Alyssa decided that while Oakey was waiting to decide which spell he wanted to do now, she would practice both spells on her own. First she would use perform the Disarming Charm. Pointing her wand at no one in specific, she formed an invisible d and said, "Expelliarmus." She kept practicing that spell a couple of times, her wand movements forming an invisible d and saying "Expelliarmus".

Now for the Shield Charm. She didn't have a chance to perform it for herself yet, so all she could do right now was to practice the wand movements and the incantation for it. She pointed her wand straight in front of her and with a quick arcing flick followed immediately by a quick horizontal slash, Alyssa said the words, "Pro-TAY-goh". Immediately a bluish thingy formed in front of her and quickly expanded sideways to form a wall in front of her. After a few seconds, the 'bluish' wall disappeared and Alyssa performed the spell again.

Concentrating on the incantation and what she intended to do, Alyssa performed the shield charm movement with an arcing flick followed by a quick horizonal slash and said, "Pro-TAY-goh". Again a bluish light streamed out from her wand and formed a bluish wall in front of her.

Jordan rushed over to Ariana, "Ariana, are you okay?" he asked, "I'm so sorry about that!" he offered her a hand up. "Come on, try it again... You'll be fine at it!" he said.

Oakey stood ready. Wand pointed out and fixed it on Alyssa's person. Expelliarmus! he cast at her.

The spell shot from his wand at a blazing speed. The light looked it's strongest yet! Oakey watched as it came closer and closer to Alyssa who wasn't paying attention to him and was focused more on practicing the spells at the Moment. Alyssa! Oakey shouted to grab her attention as the spell was about an arms reach away from her.

Alyssa hadn't realized that Oakey had made his decision and that it was her turn to practice on the Shield Charm as she had been practising on her own. She only heard the words, "Expelliarmus" and Oakey yelling out her name in warning.

Instinctively her reflex actions kicked into gear, and without thinking about it, Alyssa quickly turned around, swished her wand in an arcing flick, followed by a quick horizontal slash and said,"Protego". As like before, when she was practicing the shield charm by herself, a bluish light flew out from her wand and formed an invisible barrier in front of her, expanding out sideways. She saw Oakey's disarming spell hit her bluish wall and bounce off.

"Sorry Oakey for messing around. Thank goodness my instincts took over. I'll pay more attention from now onwards."she called out to him in a way of an apology.

Minerva didn't know what happened. One moment she was laughing about how Justin couldn't catch her off guard to standing there without her wand. "What.. how.. what happened." then she turned to a laughing Justin. "Oh I see how it is." she walked over and picked up her wand as she stood back up she made her wand movement "Expelliarmus"

Nate decided to send another expelliarmus at her just for some extra fun. He pointed his wand at hers and said "Expelliarmus."

"Nice to meet you too!" She made a note of the girl's name now. She'd never met anyone named Vashti before.

What spell did she want to practise? that was a good question. "How about shield charm now?" It was a simple spell and very effective. She was rather fond of it honestly.

It's Okay Alyssa. He called back to her. Try it one more time if you want Oakey was surprised with his housemates quick reflexes. They were going to come in handy during a close duel. Here I go again! Expelliarmus! Oakey had his wand back in his right hand. The stream of light came out and it looked this time that it wasn't as weak as his first right hand casting of the spell.

ZHENYA DID IT! She squealed and jumped up and down. "YAY!" she said.

But wait.. "Attack me?" she looked around, forgetting the spell.
"SHIELD" she yelled pointing her wand at Raven. Her wand flew out of her hand..

Ella waved her hand in the air with a smile. "No problem!" She nodded then, focusing on the task she now had to do. "Okay, I'm ready!" she said, raising her wand in front of her. She watched as he made the d movement and as he began to speak she uttered the word, "Protego!" For a second she saw something appear in front of her and smiled but just as quickly it had disappeared, allowing Messer's disarming charm to hit her and make her wand go flying. "Oh merlin." she said with a sigh. She bent down to pick up her wand and looked at Messer with a shrug. "Must not have been concentrating enough! That was a nice shot though! Mind if I go again?"

Silvia waved her wand and said "Protego." A thin blue mist erupted from her wand, but didn't take any particular form. But at least something happened. She tried again. "Protego," moving her wand in an arch and imagining a shield forming. This time a blue transparent substance came out of her wand again and looked as if it began to form a shield, but then seemed to disappear quickly. For several more minutes she practiced until the result seemed to improve a little, even though it hadn't been perfected. "I think I'm almost ready," she said to Alex. "How about you?"

This time Alyssa was ready for the disarming charm. The moment she saw the stream of light shoot out from his wand, she simultaneously swished her wand in an upward arcing flick followed quickly by a horizontal slash and said,"Protego". Immediately, a blue beam of light shot out of her wand and formed a barrier in front of her. She saw Oakey's spell bounce off her invisible bluish shield, and her wand remained in her hand.

"Good job, Oakey. I could actually feel the vibrations when your spell bounced off mine." She called out to him. "Are you right handed? Because it looks like your spell casting is stronger when you use your right than your left."

What did she say before? Shield?
Since Zhenya didn't know the incantation, her wand flew away and fell to the ground. Okay, Raven need to tell her about the shield charm. She tried not to laugh.

"Hey." she said. "The incantation is 'Protego' not 'Shield'" said her and tried not to laugh. But she couldn't.

"That's okay." she continued. "Pick your wand and attack me, and I'll show you the shield charm."

Only after Alysaa had mentioned it, Oakey had never thought about it. His dominant hand was his left, but he used both hands when it came to his wand. I think my spells are equally powerful in both my hands. Harvey called me Ambi...ambi? Ambi something? It's kinda hard to pronounce.

I'll try one more time with my left hand this time. I'll show you what I mean. Oakey flipped his wand to his scarred left hand and pointed it towards Alyssa. Get ready! He shouted to Alyssa. Expelliarmus!

The stream of light shot out of his wand in a burst similar to his previous one he cast in his right hand. It headed right for Alyssa.

"Not sure", Alex said. "You look like you are closer than I am. Why don't I try to disarm you and you try your shield?". "Ready?", she asked. Alex raised her wand, waved it properly and said, "Expelliarmus".

Sierra stood there, facing her opponent and keeping her Shield Charm firmly in place. She watched with wide eyes as she waited to see what the girl would do. She'd blocked Sierra's charm, as well, so now the two of them stood facing one another, both with a Shield Charm up. Now what could they do? They were only allowed to do the two charms, and when they both had a shield up, there wasn't really much they could do.

Her only hope was to hope the girl's shield wasn't strong enough to hold. With a 'd' motion, she again cast, "Expelliarmus!"

"Tayla," she replied as soon as it was alright with Professor Romanos and the Hufflepuff she was almost partners with. "Third year. Gryffindor."

She took out her wand and readied herself when she noticed the fist Jacques was making. "Er..." she began, not sure what he was up to. "You can take out your wand now, if you're ready."

Justin stood laughing , but knew what she was capable of, " Protego!" he said as he put up the vertical shield deflecting her. " Expelliamus1" he said quickly trying to disarm her again.

He gulped, hoping that this Miss Stone wasn't a Hufflepuff. Why did Professor Romanos paired him with a girl anyway? Hades didn't want to ruin his gentleman image by going hard on a girl. When a voice behind him greeted 'Mr Vaughn', Hades turned around. He was surprised to see that it was none other than the Quidditch captain of Ravenclaw. She must be a tough one.

"Hades," corrected the Slytherin. He didn't like it when fellow students addressed him using his last name. It made him felt old. Since everyone else had started, "Shall we start?" the boy beamed as the grip on his wand tightened.

Shield Charm it was then! Though, now that Vashti thought about it, they'd still be practicing both spells anyway, they just wouldn't actually disarm each other. If they did the shield right, of course. So this would be interesting. "Alright," Vashti said, drawing her wand as she spoke. "Do you want to defend first then, or should I?"

After taking another sweep around the room, Medea paused up at the front where she had been previously standing during most of the theoretical portion of the lesson. Most, if not all, were doing a splendid job with their spells, and even if a few were a bit shaky, they seemed to be doing better after each time they tried. That's what she liked to see.

"Alright. Everyone." Attention over here! She waited until they did so before continuing on. "Ve don't have that much time left in the class and I do vont to get to the portion where ve discussed taking away one sense. You all are doing very vell vith your spells, so I have no doubt that you'll be able to pull this off. I vos initially going to go through each separately, but for now since the lack of time, I'll be dividing you all up. First through fourth years, you'll have your sense of sound taken away, while fifth through seventh years, you'll be blindfolded to take away your sense of sight."

Fun, wasn't it? "Don't vorry. If you don't vont to do this, just raise your hand and tell me. Or if your preference is the other vay around, let me know. As for now, I'd advise you and your partner to take a few more steps away from everyone just for safety. I'll be keeping a lookout in case any spells go off course. So, spread out some more. There is enough room in here."


OOC: I'll give you guys a few hours to spread out, and then we'll get to the dueling portion. ;)

"Oh you mean ambidextrous? You are? I wish I was..." before Alyssa could finish her sentence, she realized that Oakey had sent another spell her way. Without thinking she raised her wand and in and arcing flick followed quickly by a horizontal slash, she said, " Protego" hoping that she was fast enough to shield herself before his spell hit her. Immediately a bluish light shot out from her wand and formed a barrier in front of her, just as she saw his spell hit it. She could still feel it reverberate as it bounced off her shield charm, and sent vibrations up her wand hand.

"Yeah I see what you mean" she called out to him, shaking her wand hand to get back normal feeling to it.

Then she heard the Professor call them over, and stopped to hear what she had to say.

So third years were to lose their hearing? Alyssa would have much preferred to have lost her sight because her sense of hearing was a lot better than her eyesight and she had been known to hear things which others couldn't. But for the sake of the lesson at hand she was prepared to do what the Professor had wanted them to do. So she joined the rest of the first to fourth years and made sure that she had enough space around to move freely.

She spread out her arms and turned on all sides to make sure that she had enough room to move, hopped over whenever someone got close and waited for the Professor to give further instructions.

Ariana took his hand and pulled herself up. "yeah, im fine thanks jordie. yeah let's try that again.. that was dumb.." Ariana brushed off her robes. boy that was embarrassing.

Ariana listened to the professor.. no sence of hearing.. COOL! Ariana Loved a nice challenge! she spear out a little bit more.

Amelia drew her wand when Vashti did and then thought about her question "I can start out." She didn't mind doing it first because she was pretty good with this spell. But then the Professor started talking about blindfolding them and.... oh, great. She wouldn't be able to see what she was doing. Why couldn't they have started sooner? Then they would have had some more time to practise. D:

Alright, so Amelia wanted to defend first. Vashti nodded and was preparing to cast the Disarming Spell but...

...Professor Romanos was now telling them to spread out because they were going to temporarily "lose" one of their senses. And the one she and Amelia would have to lose was their sight.

Oh Merlin. This was going to be hard...

She looked over at Amelia, who didn't seem too pleased by this either. "I guess...we should start spreading out a bit," she said, frowning as she took a few steps away from the rest of the students. Was this a good enough distance?

Lookign at Vashti, Amelia saw that she too didn't look forward to the prospect of having to cast spells without any vision. But she would do it because it was for school and she supposed it was also good practise even though she wasn't really one for duelling unless she had to. And so far she hadn't ever really had to do any.

"Yes, I suppose we should." Sighing, she also went back a few steps. "Okay, that's better."

Kennedy's stance resembled one of dueling, but the smile on his face took its seriousness away. The boy was having WAY too much fun. He had even forgotten that they were in DADA and a bunch of students around.

"Protego!" he said, blocking Kurumi's spell. He flicked his wand, but stopped mid-air when he heard Professor Romanos' voice...



He lowered his wand, but kept his awareness up. It wasn't like he was expecting Kurumi to send a spell his way, but he never knew.

The snake smirked at the idea of having the younger students having there sense of sound taken away, but his smirk quickly fell when Professor Romanos explained that fifth years and up were going to lose their sense of SIGHT. That was his favorite sense...besides tasting. He likes tasting foods.

Oh well, it was for an activity and he could do that...yeah.

He turned his attention back to Kurumi and shrugged. He was up to this, now it was time to exercise his sense of hearing since he didn't do that much. He looked around and took several steps closer to a wall and away from the crowd. "Is this spot good or no?"

Wand at the ready and waiting for Jacques to respond, Tayla heard Professor Romanos giving a next set of instructions.

"Interesting," Tayla said with a grin. In a moment, she wouldn't be able to hear a thing. She spread out as the other students did so and quickly reviewed the disarming and shield charms in her head, flicking her wand a bit as she did so. She wondered if they were allowed to use any other spell, and also wondered how her younger partner was doing.

Just casting these two spells back and forth was becoming a little too predictable. If these spells were really going to hit, Kurumi was going to have to do something to distract him.

Seeing Kennedy move, Kurumi instinctively put up another magical shield and waited for his counter...only nothing came.
Oh, that would be why.

Kurumi lowered her wand when the professor began to speak. Wait...they were going to lose their ability to see? Kurumi supposed that that wouldn't be too bad. Neither her nor Kennedy were able to perform nonverbals, so they would have to say the actual spells. Truth be told...Kurumi was more concerned about her aim and not hitting someone else...

Sure, the professor said that she would be looking out for stray spells and what not...but with an entire classroom full of students...it seemed quite the task to make sure that everyone's spells stayed on track.

This was going to be chaotic...

Turning her attention back to Kennedy now, Kurumi nodded. "Seems alright to me," Kurum replied. When in doubt, they could use the wall to get their bearings, right?

Beezus smiled at the girl's direction. Well.. that wasn't too difficult. Maybe they'll manage practicing with both now since the others were already doing so. She was about to tell Sky that they practice the two spells now when she heard Professor Romanos speak up.

Granted that she was a second year student, that meant she'd lose her sense of sound right? Like she was gonna be deaf for a while. That didn't sound too good, to her at least. She did say the most important sense for her was the sense of hearing and now it was the one that's gonna be taken away so the eaglette really didn't know how to cope up with that.

She thought about telling the Professor that she'd like to transfer to the other group but decided against it after a few minutes of thorough thinking. She'll stick with her own group and maybe that could help her overcome her fear of losing hearing.

"I guess we should spread a bit more.." she told her she-snake partner as she herself moved a bit backwards.

Laura looked at the Professor, she was glad she had been practicing the spells, she looked at Jen and then moved a few paces back, seriously though if she got hurt she was going to go and complain to Professor Hadley, "Jen this could be Vun..fun." Laura corrected herself.

Eep! They were going to be loosing their hearing? Sky wasn't so sure about that. What if something happened during the rest of the lesson? They wouldn't be able to hear any safety instructions! Yikes!

Sky gulped and moved back a little herself. "I think that's far enough…" Oh boy, she could hear the nervousness in her voice…

That was enough? Beezus looked around and cocked her head to the side as she shrugged. "I guess so." There was so much tension in the air already. "We should just wait for further instructions right?" Because well..they were going to start any minute now and losing some of their prized senses would be the worst part. The young eaglette gripped her wand firmly.

"Right." Sky still wasn't quite so happy about loosing her hearing, but worrying about it wasn't going to solve a thing. And she definitely wasn't going to cop out now. Especially since Slytherin needed the points. She took a couple of deep breaths to calm herself down.

She nodded back at her tightening her grip on her wand ''Well once or twice but I'm no master,'' she replied shrugging ''That's great then!'' she grinned back at her

''Nah.. I'm kinda dramatic some times,'' KINDA? HA!!!! She giggled

''Yeah, she said to start the shield charm now,''

Minerva was about to say the shield charm when she heard the professor begin to talk. She dodged to the right to avoid Justin's spell and smiled at him. Listening to the Professor she moved a bit further from the rest of the group giving Justin and herself enough room. Taking away sound. Well as long as she could see him that shouldn't be an issue, right? She looked back at Justin wondering if he would try to trick her while she had no hearing..

Justin followed suit and spread out putting alot more distance between them. Then turning around he nodded for her to begin. He would be on the receiving end of her skill.

Jacques had his wand in his left hand already so when she said he could take his wand out he frowned at her, puzzled, his wand was already out. He released his fist and readied himself "I am." Tayla seemed unsure about dueling with him which was unnecessary and irrational since they were only practicing but that was how women were, no matter the age. Irrationality was what they embodied. Perhaps he should start, he nodded to her and stomped to bring her attention to his feet then flicked his wand hand to begin the incantation, his thought was however cut off by Professor Romanos. He didn't take his eyes from her but it seemed already their little practicing session was over and all the older students would be the main focus.

He bowed to her and walked away finding spot where he could watch the action without being in the way, he was small though so he knew he would be blocked eventually so he shuffled through them. No one would take notice of him there but hopefully no one pushed because he'd just fall

Nate did what the teacher asked by speading out. So he found a spot. He then waited for further directions.

"Okay, sure then." Violet raised up her wand and cried out, "Expelliarmus!" Nothing came out of her wand, but it was a good try. I wonder if she knows how to do the protego spell?. Then, Violet heard the professor give out more instructions for the next activity. So she and Lily were going to have their hearing blocked out? That was a scary thought to think about, but at the same time, it was a good learning skill during the DADA lesson. Violet looked around the room to see how much space she had, and she was content that she was out of harm's way from the other students and a good distance between herself and her partner. Violet looked over at her and smiled nervously with what they were about to do. "I wonder how the professor is going to block our hearing?"she called over to Lily.

As the final few were spreading out, Medea started to move to the left side of the room. Before she started to taking away senses though, she made sure to start with instructions. Would be no use for her to speak when the younger students couldn't hear a thing. "Older students, try and remember where your partner stands as of this moment, and please, all of you, do not move around too much from your spot." She didn't need someone walking into the line of someone else's spell. "Remember! Use just the disarming and shield spells only. Any other spell used vill result in punishment. Last but not least, have fun vith this."

Smiling and moving from student to student, she either tapped each side of their head near their ears with a nonverbal spell to make them momentarily deaf to surrounding noises or she used the more known obscuro spell to blindfold the older students. Once she was done, she hopped up to the dueling platform so she had a better view of everyone in the room, and they had a better view of her.

"Again. JUST the disarming and shield spells." Older students would have heard her. Younger students, not so much. "You may start!" She held two thumbs up to benefit the students that couldn't hear her as a signal to go.



OOC: Use of the Disarming and Shield Charms ONLY.

1st - 4th Years = No sense of SOUND
5th - 7th Years = No sense of SIGHT. You are all blindfolded.

It is alright to be disoriented and not get things right on the first couple of tries. Perhaps your aim is off or you can't say the spell correctly because you can't hear yourself speak. No one is perfect. It is okay. The Professor will be keeping a close eye on things, so please, no fatal injuries. And perhaps no drastic damage to the arena either. It's rather sturdy.

I'll give you a few days to RP, and we'll come to a close on things around the 13th.

What?! She was being placed with the babies?! Sierra frowned at that, but seeing as she apparently had a choice, she raised her hand. "Professor? Would I be able to do this the other way around? Go with the sightless people, maybe?" she asked. She lowered her hand and pointed to her partner. "We both ended up in the same group anyway--first to fourth years."

Messer was kinda shocked when his spell hit Ella. He thought that Ella would managed to do the Shield Charm since she was pretty good with the Disarming Charm earlier. Then his partner said that she didn't concentrate enough. Yeah that must be it.

Then when the young badger was about to answer Ella's question about giving another shot, Professor Romanos said that she's dividing them up so that mean partner time is over? "I guess we should go to where the first through fourth year are?" he asked Ella.

Nate saw his partner. He waited a few moments. Then he was ready to cast the spell. He said "Expelirmus." Nothing happened. Nate started to get a bit confused. He said it right didn't he. Then he thought wait I didn't hear me say it. That's why I can't hear me say it so I just assumed I did it right. But obviously I didn't do it right or else something would've happened.

Not that ending in the same group mattered, if she wanted to lose her sight instead, Medea had no problem with it. "Of course." Aaaaand queue the momentary forget that the girl couldn't hear a thing, much less hear HER speak. Countering her previous spell, she cast the obscuro instead. Blindfolded! "Better?"

Lily stood still as Violet was attempting to disarm. When it didn't work, Lily kinda nodded, but then heard the professor speak up. "I guess we will find out soon." Lily called back before she saw the professor getting ready to speak.



Once the professor had come around and made Lily temporarily deaf, Lily tested it out. "Woah..." Lily said not hearing anything. This is really neat... I can't hear anything. Lily turned towards the professor waiting to be told to go. She could see the professor's mouth moving but couldn't hear anything. Then she saw the thumbs up. That must mean go Lily thought as she turned back towards Violet. Giving her a thumbs up, Lily hoped to get her attention. She then pointed at Violet and then gave her the 1 signal with her pointer finger, trying to tell Violet to go first.

Oh. Good. Now she wasn't stuck with the babies anymore. Fourth years really shouldn't be in the same group as the ickles firsties anyway. "Thank you, Professor," Sierra confidently said, proud to now be a part of the older group, with the more experienced duelers.

...but then a moment later, the whole room went dark, and Sierra heard nothing at all. She waited a moment, hoping the professor would realize what happened, but then she never regained her sight of sound. WHAAAAAA. *insert panic* :whaa:

Sierra spun around then, and accidentally stumbled over her own two feet. Was she even near the professor anymore?! If she'd spun completely around, which she was sure she had, she was now facing her partner, right? Right. Little did she know, but she was facing the exact direction the professor was in. "Expelliarmus!" she said, giving her wand a 'd' motion.

Jen glanced over and saw the disappointed look on the students face. She didn't really care where she was placed. She walked over with her partner.

Oakey stood still has the professor tapped his head twice making him momentarily deaf.

Then Professor Romanos hopped up onto the stage and started giving what might have been instructions. Oakey couldn't hear them though...PROFESSOR! WHAT DID YOU SAY? Oakey shouted unaware that he was doing so. He assumed it was something about what spells they were allowed to use, but wanted to make sure.

Ya, it would make sense if the people who all lost their sight went togeather. She said to the Professer. So her partner wanted to loose her sight, that was cool, Olivia would rather loose her hearing then be blinded anyway.

Olivia suddenly went deaf and paniced for a moment, when she came to her sences, she saw her partner spinning arround. Hahaha Olivia laughed when she cast expelliarmus at the professer just dont loose any points!. Holly Merlin, Olivia couldnt here herself talk! How would she know if she even did! She did not intervene with the spell cause she wanted to see the professers reaction, and diddnt want to loose points.

Had he really missed? Mweh. He shrugged to himself. Sometimes he lost his concentration just like that. Maybe, if he hadn't been so occupied with cautioning her first that he was shooting, he could have hit her while she was watching the commotion. Oh well. At least no one could say he hit her from her back or anything, like she probably expected.

And now it was her tu--she hit him! Not physically, but she didn't even say she was going to cast the spell. The Brazilian tried to hold the wand, of course, but it was of no use and it was gone away in that room somewhere. Nevertheless, he nodded at her for her good work. He wasn't going to smile or anything, of course, because he wasn't pleased that she had lost his wand, but at least he acknowledged it. "I'd, er, better look for my wand." Yeah. There seemed like hundrends of people were in the room suddenly. And he hadn't even watched where it went.

...with all these wands flying around, it was impossible to find his. He had to run from getting hit, of course, or be prepared for people falling over. Then there was the threat of getting hit by a spell of those little brats who obviously thought magic was casting fires. The professor announced it was time to practise Protego, and his wand was still lost. Maybe he should just take that Stella girl's wand, since SHE lost it. Stupid Ravenclaws for being good at magic.

After a few more minutes' search, he finally found it somewhere near the windows. He sighed in relief that it was still one piece and made his way towards Stella, just in time for that... blindfolded game or something of that sort. Such fun.

"So, yeah, we couldn't really practise Protego." He paused, looking around thoughtfully. "But I guess you're good at it too," at least, HE certainly was, "so are we being blindfolded now?" He'd rather pass, thank you. He wasn't going to be bloody blind in a duel, at most, he would just lose his wand and be killed.

Watching all of the older students battle the dummies and (to some) each other, Anna was a bit nervous to go up and try to disarm the dummy by herself. It seemed that everyone was in little secluded groups and Anna was all by her lonesome. She took out her wand at the ready and then noticed that there was a an empty dummy on the other side. She walked over to it carefully avoiding everyone else's spells flying through the air. She looked around as she saw upperclassmen trying to disarm the dummies blinded folded and she saw a few other underclassmen trying to mute their's. She got to the dummy and pointed her wand at it, then she was about the shout by no words came from her mouth... she forgot what the spell was! Oh no! She thought to herself as she looked around frantically for her Professor.

"Oh.. sorry I forgot, I think," Zhenya said, about the shield charm.
She picked up her wand and pointed it at Raven and said "EXPELLIARMUS," and she felt confident about it. But would Raven's shield charm be better than her disarming spell? Probably...

She went to try it again but heard the Professor address them.



She looked at Raven, worried. But she needed to hear! She looked around the room to make sure that they were a good enough distance away from others.

Since he saw nothing come out of her wand he tried again. He pointed his wand at hers and said "Expllimus." He knew he was closer because sparks flew out. Anyways now he waited for his opponent to try again.

Ella nodded at Messer after hearing the professor speaking. "Okay yeah, guess we should." No sense of sound huh? This is scary, she thought. She held her wand up as the lack of sound really started to freak her out. Now what?

I'm ready.
 

Alyssa felt the Professor tap her on the head with her wand and then everything became total silence. She could see people talking because their mouths were moving but she couldnt hear a thing. Alyssa started to panic before she realized that this was part of the lesson.

So she kept a look all around and waited to see who would be sending spells her way.

Nate saw the spell coming towards him. He said "Portegio." He saw that nothing happened. When the spell hit he grabbed his wand from the air. He then gt ready again. He said "Expelliarmus." Nate saw that the spell must've worked because he saw it heading for her wand.
