Upon entering the classroom, ones first thought could have been that they had walked into the wrong room and was actually joining a cult. The room was exceedingly dark, windows having been closed off with dark burgundy, almost black looking, drapes that hung from ceiling to floor. Deep purple colored mats were lined perfectly from one another on the floor in rows of six while a deep red one sat in the front of them all where Professor Medea currently sat upon. However, one could find their way around the room, for scattered around were a great deal of candles, both lighting portions of the walls, floors, and ceiling itself in a rather ghostly glow fashion. Candles that floated in water surrounded with the stationary candles to light up the particularly extra shiny floor were placed strategically around so no one would accidentally catch fire, while large rectangle like shapes cradling the ceiling with an orange glow gave the final look to the room.
In front of each mat is a parchment already shaped into a long cone to be easily placed in front of you to be read. Of course, the Professor hasn't placed names to face yet, so please come in, complete the task of writing your name on the parchment in a mostly dark room, and become comfortable on one of the mats. Class will be starting shortly!
OOC: Please come in and take a seat on one of the mats [and be familiar with the rules and expectations]. Also, so you aren't referred to as 'that kid' or 'hey you', have your character fill out the name tag so we know who you are. The lesson will begin in about 12 hours or so. Feel free to hang out, but please don't add pages and pages of chatter.
Class has BEGUN! Please don't post a late arrival. Just jump in like your character has been there the whole time.
Nate had to sigh a little. The answers being given by most were not answering the question that the Professor--whose name Nate did not know--had asked. He slowly raised his hand, thinking carefully before he responded, "Are we working with something that usually lives underground, in low-light, humid conditions?" The air did feel a bit heavier in this room compared to others, but that might have just been an illusion of the darkness. Or an echo of his crying from the previous night. Either way....
Nate shifted a little after answering, trying to get as comfortable as possible. Finally, after trying cross-legged, reclining, lying on his back, sitting on his knees, and even considering standing on his head, he decided that lying on his stomach with his chin on his hands was the most comfortable way to be positioned in the moment. His comfort wasn't full, though. There were obviously things lurking in this darkness: he had counted the shadows a few times. Needless to say, his wand was already out, the word Lumos threatening to emerge from his lips. Thankfully, it didn't.

It was only after she made sure Daichi wasn't going to stutter the teeth right out of his mouth did she take out her wand and flick it towards the candles that sat behind them a good ten feet away, making the light shine brightly so it much easier to see HER and Daichi.

Vickers was looking around the room trying to get accustomed to the dimmed lighting, he realized that he had seated himself next to Mo and lifted his head up in silent greeting, then shifted his eyes towards the Professor. Errr why was she looking at him like that? He glanced down at his robes... was there something wrong with it? It looked fine to him, typical Ravenclaw blue robes, did it look blue to her too from where she stood, or more greenish?
He looked back up when she began to speak, what did he think they were gonna learn that day? He looked around the room again before raising his hand tentatively "Perhaps we would be learning about the dark arts or those who use magic for malicious purposes?" Even ordinary everyday magic can be deadly when used by one who wishes to do harm.

Sky had to think about that for a minute. She knew it would have something to do with defensive spells and the dark arts (after all, this was Defense Against the Dark Arts), but what kind of defense against what kind of dark arts? "Are we going to learn to defend ourselves from voodoo magic?" she suggested, sheepishly. Sky thought voodoo was more of a Louisiana thing, but one never knew……

Glad to see that Professor Romanos seemed happy to see him in her lesson, August sat at his mat with a nervous little smile. This lesson would be ok, he was sure of it.
Suddenly the light from the candles brightened and the room turned...less scary; but only slightly. And the first question was asked and Auggie raised his hand. "Perhaps we are studying how to protect ourselves from dark things that linger in the dark?" it was a guess, but the room had been pretty dark.

Alyssa listened as the other students raised their hands and gave their answers. Once she was sure of her answer, she raised her hand and said, "Professor, we are here so that we can know what is the difference dark magic and magic that is used for good. Like for example the reason why the three Unforgiveable Curses were banned from being by wizarding folk in 1717." Alyssa hoped that her answer was correct.
Laci almost jumped up with excitement "Professor! Is it how to protect ourselves from magical objects that go astray and swear to attack and kill us?" She said it in an exuberant tone, one that didn't exactly fit her question.

As Nora listened to the new professor and made herself a bit more comfortable, even though she couldn't say it was her favourite thing to do to stay in the dark, she also noticed she had a slight accent... but where was she from? Well, not her problem, was it?
"Maybe you will show us how to defend ourselves in the dark?" She suggested with a hand in the air. It was, after all, Defence Against the Dark Arts, where dark creatures were involved, who most definitely liked to hang out in the dark.
Messer raised his hand up in the air when the Professor asked them the first question "Maybe we're going to learn how to defense ourselves against the dark and dark creatures?" Its Defense Against The Dark Arts After all.

Jonathan continued writing his name and made sure that the font or the handwriting was big enough for the professor to see. It was quite dark in this classroom.

At first, he didn't notice that someone sat next to him, however when he heard Kurumi talk to Daichi, his head moved and saw Daichi (who was also beside him) and Kurumi (who was next to him). He smiled as a sign of greeting but since the professor was already there, he didn't bother talking that much. After that, he looked at Daichi and grinned. He was still convinced that Jonathan doesn't know him right? Well, they're still playing this game. Jonathan pretended he didn't hear Kurumi calling him. Yup.
Then he heard another familiar voice coming from somewhere near. It was quite familiar since he just heard this voice recently.... his eyes narrowed as he saw Beatrice seating quite close to that area too. What is she doing here?! Jonathan's smile faded and turned straight.
A few moments then, another young boy sat next to him as well. It's Tyler. The Hufflepuff boy he talked to the other day. Well, that was a long time ago already.
Focusing onto the professor as she started greeting the students that came in, Jonathan sat comfortably, like she suggested. Jonathan wasn't really bothered by the dimness of the atmosphere, come on, Slytherins lives in the dungeons. He's pretty sure that that place was not as bright as the other common rooms inside the castle. Even the corridors in the dungeons are dark and creepy for some people. You eventually get used to it.
The professor raised her first question. What will they be learning today? Jonathan thought of an answer to that. He was quite eager himself to know what lesson will they be learning right now. Dark atmosphere with some candles. It could be anything right? The subject is called Defense Against the Dark Arts, this ambiance is quite perfect.
"Professor..." he raised his hand to answer "Are we going to learn about defending ourselves in the dark?" it could happen. The dark is a very scary place to be in if you don't know what to do or how to defend yourselves. "...against dark creatures?" he added. He wasn't sure of that last one though.
What are we going to learn today?, the third year asked herself and looked around. Something with spirits and yoga and errr…. , Gwen thought, but couldn’t come up with anything relevant. This room looked more alike to the one used for Divination. It has to be something weird. ‘How to cast spells on something or… someone without seeing what you are doing?’The place was quite dark. What other reason is there? And um… if you can’t see very well you have to trust yourself and stuff about reflexes. Oh- and the crazy thing with ‘the inner voice’, the Ravenclaw thought, but decided not to say it out loud.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Bring his mat...............He knew that!
For the first time in this room he was glad that the light wasn't so bright. He felt his cheeks burning up in embarrasment before shuffling back to his old place. He didn't see Jonathan smirking at him and even if he did he had completely forgotten about their mind game at the moment. Besides, if what Aurora said was true than Jonathan already knew who he really was. Which was ridiculous of course hehe~
Holding the purple mat in his arms, Daichi moved back to the front of the class and layed the mat down before sitting on top of it.

The moment he sat down on his knees, because that was how he sat comfortable , Daichi was completely startled at the change of light and for a moment he thought that one of the candles had fallen and now there was a massive sea of flames behind them. Uncontrollably, he let out a whimper but curiousity was stronger as he looked back. Nothing had happened to the flames thank Merlin but the room was just a bit brighter.
Breathing out heavily, Daichi looked back around to be staring at the class. It was weird to see the class from the Professor's point of view... They wouldn't laugh at him right? Because Daichi was not a wimp! Only when fire was involved and the great lake but that was it!
"Professor? M-maybe something about cult and..and.. how to keep the dark magic away?" He answered although his voice was softy and the little stutter wasn't gone yet, the Professor should have no problem hearing him for he sat beside her.

Alex thought about the Professor's question. She was a little afraid to respond, but she raised her hand anyway. "Professor, are we going to learn how to defend ourselves in less than ideal conditions?". "Maybe we'll learn to maintain our focus when we are nervous or frightened", Alex said.
With one final glance at her watch, she slightly to herself before taking it off and placing it beside her on the ground. Ira was glad when Professor made the light from the candles shine brightly. She was glad to see that the room did not appear as creepy as when she had entered the class. She was also glad that she wasn't in place of poor Daichi!
And get comfortable? Sure, why not! How could the students be expected to get comfortable in the half-dark, half-bright room, with all the candles and what not and sitting on mats on floor? Then she got the idea.. Probably they were going to do yoga, right? But no.. This was DADA class! So what else can be taught here?
Ira raised her hand up and answered, "Professor, is it something related to absence or less amount of light?" which would explain the reason of the dark room. Then she added, "Or I think, being a DADA class, we will be learning how to defend our self without the sense of sight.. maybe"
Defence Against the Dark Arts was not Hades' best subject. He was rather fond of the Dark Arts. After making himself comfortable, the fourth year raised his hand. "Dark creatures, ma'am?" like Lethifolds. Their mysteriousness was captivating to him.

Tiffany sat comfortably on her mat while looking at the professor as she started asking the first question. She just had to concentrate more at class since DADA was not one of her strong subjects.
That's kind of a open-ended one. She would surely be able to answer it that she raised her hand. "Professor I guess we would learn more about the spells or the ways as our protection if we are attacked by dark creatures," she answered uncertainly. Well the correct answer would be similar with hers, she hoped so.

"Woah. Hello to you too." she chuckled softly as her gaze zeroed in on whoever had just entered the classroom. Certainly an entertaining entrance.
Maybe this class isn't so spooky after all, Janice said to herself, smiling slightly. The professor looks kind...

French accent? Janice was surprised. Maybe this class would be as understandable as last year's Ancient Runes class. She didn't hope so, though. She had never liked DADA lessons from Borr, but this one seems interesting.
Looking at her surroundings, Janice thought that the dimmed light must be part of the lesson, or it's just that Professor liked dark places. After brainstorming what might attack you from the dark, Janice raised her hand to answer.
"Are we going to fight off Boggarts, professor? Although I'm not so sure because Boggarts like dark and secluded places, not spacious places like these." Spacious places? That sounded pretty weird since Janice doesn't use those kind of 'rhyming' words.
Arianna sat comfortably and raised her hand, "Professor, might it be learning about spells that would help us defend ourselves through an. . .obstacle, maybe?" She wondered how DADA would seem this term. She would always get hyped up every lesson. Hope this one would be great.
What were they doing today? Well that much was obvious. They were in a dark classroom with mats and candles lit all over the place. She did not even need to think about what they were doing as it was so obvious by the ambiance in the room. The fourth year redhead rose her hand straight up in the air, "Professor, are we doing some kind of yoga?". Yep... She was so on top of this answer.

Doomed spirits, resurrection, more demons... "Probably not all of those." Or any of them for that matter.

Timidly, Kurumi raised her hand. "Cults?" she asked. The Cult of Walpurgis had just been brought down by the Ministry after all. It wasn't like she was pulling this notion of cults in the wizarding world out of nowhere.
Even Miss Hollingberry had a particular interesting answer in which she, as the Professor, was starting to become concerned for a few of these students. "No, not...exactly."

Because it was very probable. As a matter of fact, this place looked like somewhere one would go to talk to the spirits. Maybe that was why they were here - to communicate with the dead. Though there were the ghosts for that and all... hmm....
..."No, not voodoo." For the love of Merlin...

All those candles and the mere fact that were seated on mats definitely had something to do with today's lesson, she was definitely sure of it.
And the only thing she could think of was.."Professor, are we perhaps going to learn some defense techniques against demons, especially those who dwell in temples?" she answered after raising her hand.
What was with these kids and demons? What Professors or past experiences had they had? "Defense techniques could be possible." Some of it was true.

Medea was beginning to rethink this classroom setting. "Not today, no." Or maybe ever.

There was that voodoo answer again. "No, not voodoo." she said with a shake of her head. Though now, thanks to these kids, she was curious about it.

"Professor? M-maybe something about cult and..and.. how to keep the dark magic away?" He answered although his voice was softy and the little stutter wasn't gone yet, the Professor should have no problem hearing him for he sat beside her.
At least he wasn't silent. That was a good sign. Though this talk about the cult had her shaking her head a little. "Keeping dark magic away is a good answer." For one...don't join a cult.

Vlim said, smiling as well as she could in the room that was reminiscent of learning the Unforgivables.
Finally though, some of these students were a little less...creepy. While the class title was pretty much defined by the girl, the last portion had Medea nodding even more. "Yes, there is some portion about staying calm and alert that ve'll be learning." Whether it was today or the next lesson, she wasn't quite sure.

It would make perfect sense as to why it was so dark in here unless maybe the professor just liked it better this way.
Good, good. She was beginning to think demons was the only answer she was going to get out of a dark room. "You're on the right track, Miss Lockwood.

"Erm, ...does it have something to do with the absence of light? Maybe a dark art that exists and thrives in the actual darkness?" she asked, raising her hand. Now just what that might be, she didn't know, but it was her best guess.
"You're also on the right track, Miss Greingoth." There was that second Greingoth in the class. Where was the first one again?

"Maybe you will show us how to defend ourselves in the dark?" She suggested with a hand in the air. It was, after all, Defence Against the Dark Arts, where dark creatures were involved, who most definitely liked to hang out in the dark.
Or maybe they'll practice the Lumos spell.
"Ve'll be talking a little about it, yes."

"In a way..." she nodded. Oh wait. He added that part about dark creatures. "In...in a way." She'll just leave it at that.

"Yes, ve'll be getting to that." Whether today or the next lesson, it was undecided as of yet.

Taking a deep breath, Medea quickly put her hair up with the tie she had around her wrist before slowly exhaling. Right. Some of these students had questionable minds, but all in all, she was rather pleased with their thoughts so far. One of the students though had her nodding a bit more and her smile grew a little. Those were the words she'd been hoping to hear one of the kids say. While it wasn't the only thing they'd be learning, it was a topic they'd be going over throughout the year.
"Those vere some good answers. Some of them being a bit more questionable then others...but good." She could be keeping an eye on those students. In fact, as she spoke, she wrote a few things down on her parchment. "For those of you who do not know, I am Professor Romanos, and if you haven't guessed already, I'll be teaching your defense against the dark arts class."
"Today though, you von't be really learning anything new per say, but this is mostly for my benefit. It'll be a review of vot you know already, so I know where you all are at during the present time." She'd heard there had been circumstances in the past which halted their learning. "Ve may also be talking about vot some of you had mentioned, and vot Miss Wilson had perfectly suggested. While ve vill be discussing about defending ourselves vithout the sense of sight, ve vill also be touching base vith the other four sense of sound, touch, taste, and smell whether it be in this lesson, or another."
"But today, it's mostly review. I'll try and make it as fun as possible though, which is why ve're sitting on these mats. A few of you mentioned yoga. So, now that you're all comfortable...it's time to move. Everyone, sit up straight, in the lotus position..." And if they didn't know what that was, they could just copy what she was doing. "And while you do that, who can tell me one thing they know about the Dark Arts? Just one."

Oh. Right. None about fighting any dark creature as of the moment. Too early on that one, more on defense they were in now. What they will be doing as Professor Romanos said was a review what they already know. Yup, because something unusual happened last term and because of that, they didn't have a proper DADA lesson. Well..until Professor Schirmer took over the class that is.
Then..they were tackling yoga. Oh? So that was the reason for the mats. They'll be having some stretchings and such eh? Beezus liked that idea. When they were told to do the Lotus position, she followed as Professor Romanos showed them how it was done. Riiiiiight. Like that.
It kinda made her back feel sore because sitting upright was required. "I don't think I'll last too long," she whispered to herself as she tried steadying her body.
When the next question was raised, her hand darted upwards immediately. "Professor, I believe Dark arts pertains to any kind of practice that is meant to do harm," Beezus answered.

Yoga? Awesome!
Since Nora didn't really know what this lotus position was, she watched professor Romanos first, and then quickly recognized the position. Her back straight, she easily curled her legs, but not exactly sure if she was supposed to do anything with her hands. Luckily, she actually liked sitting like that, which only left her thinking of an answer to the professor's question.
What did she know about the Dark Arts? "It can go wrong," she said after raising a hand. "I mean... when used, Dark Magic might not always have the expected result." If that made any sense. "Or not?" Maybe she was just rambling.
