"For those of you who do not know, I am Professor Romanos, and if you haven't guessed already, I'll be teaching your defense against the dark arts class."
"Today though, you von't be really learning anything new per say, but this is mostly for my benefit. It'll be a review of vot you know already, so I know where you all are at during the present time." She'd heard there had been circumstances in the past which halted their learning. "Ve may also be talking about vot some of you had mentioned, and vot Miss Wilson had perfectly suggested. While ve vill be discussing about defending ourselves vithout the sense of sight, ve vill also be touching base vith the other four sense of sound, touch, taste, and smell whether it be in this lesson, or another."
"But today, it's mostly review. I'll try and make it as fun as possible though, which is why ve're sitting on these mats. A few of you mentioned yoga. So, now that you're all comfortable...it's time to move. Everyone, sit up straight, in the lotus position..." And if they didn't know what that was, they could just copy what she was doing. "And while you do that, who can tell me one thing they know about the Dark Arts? Just one."
Lewis muttered "Nox" and placed his wand next to him on the mat once the professor lit up the room a little. Why exactly they were sitting on the floor he still wasn't sure but at least there were no dark, eery corners anymore.
They were going to to YOGA?! Lewis just stared at Professor Romanos for a moment, watching her get into the mentioned Lotus Position. Right. He really didn't think he could do that, even though it looked to be pretty easy when she did it.
Trying hard to get his feet on top of the inside of his thighs while raising his hand at the same time, Lewis started to wobble a little. "Professor?" Okay, that might have sounded like he had a problem, when actually he only wanted to answer her question. "Professor? Magic which is used to inflict harm on somebody or something is called Dark Arts." And with that he finally fell over to his side. Ouch!

Daisy shifted herself into the postion, glad she was flexible as she glanced around at several people struggling a little. Hmmm, she thought, the dark arts. Well, that was quite simple. 'The Dark Arts are very strong, sometimes ancient, forms of magic,' she said, trying hard not to yawn due to the sleepy atmosphere of the room. 'Many forms of the Dark Arts are illegal.'

Hugo sat down and struggled with tangling his awkwardly tall body which had grown over the summer in the position. He wasn't exactly that unfit anymore, considering he had done lots of Quidditch practice at home, buthe did not exactly manage to to the Loadus position so he just sat, legs crossed. He raised his hand to answer the question. "There are loads of Dark Creatures... Like Dementors and Grindylows," he said proudly, remembering reading a lot about them. Dark Creatures had become somewhat of an interest to Hugo in the long and boring summer months.

"Yes, ve'll be touching base with that." she nodded.
Something basic like shield charms. "Could be possible." she nodded, thinking about it for a moment. "Something basic though, yes."
"You're getting onto the right track." she nodded, smiling at the girl before her attention was diverted to the next student answering.
"Yes, in a vay." she nodded.
"Not...exactly, but you're on the right track."
Well now, how cool would that be if it were true? "Not exactly, Mister Greingoth." she chuckled. "Though that vould be fun."
"Perhaps in a later lesson, but not today."
"Yes, that may come up today." she nodded. Definitely on the right track.
"Ve certainly vill." Most certainly. Simple and straight to the point.
"Perhaps in a later lesson, Mister Burn." It's good that it was coming up though.
"It may come up." she nodded. Yup, definitely may come up, depending on where the class went today.
"Ve could be." she nodded, though whether they were or not, the students would have to wait and see.
She was beginning to think some students had misinterpreted her question. "Maybe." she nodded.
Oh, a creative answer. "Not exactly, but good job thinking outside of the box."
Malicious purposes? Sounded malicious just thinking of it. "Ve'll probably get around to all of that today, yes."
She thought about it for a moment. "Maybe in a later lesson." she mused before nodding. Not quite exactly for today.
"Ve might touch base vith that today, right." she nodded before moving on to the next student.
"Possibly." she nodded.
Oh these students and just repeating the name of the class. Medea found it kinda amusing. "Quite possible, Mister Messer."
"I'm sure that vill come up." Whether it was in this lesson or another they were going to have in the following years.
"Quite possible, yes."
"Yes, that could possibly come up."
"Yes, possibly. In a vay."
Oh, another creative answer. Unfortunately..."No, not today Miss Trewhella."
This one was getting onto the right track though. "Possibly."
If only they knew... "Yes. Yes ve vill."
Medea nodded. "Yes, ve vill be."
SPOILER!!: The creepy voodoo and ghost answers
Demons. "I erm..." Huh? She wasn't exactly awaiting that answer, as different as it was. "I suppose that could come up?"
Doomed spirits, resurrection, more demons... "Probably not all of those." Or any of them for that matter.
Even Miss Hollingberry had a particular interesting answer in which she, as the Professor, was starting to become concerned for a few of these students. "No, not...exactly."
..."No, not voodoo." For the love of Merlin...
What was with these kids and demons? What Professors or past experiences had they had? "Defense techniques could be possible." Some of it was true.
"No rituals." she said, shaking her head a little. There was a smile on her face though. If only to keep the concerned look off.
Medea was beginning to rethink this classroom setting. "Not today, no." Or maybe ever.
There was that voodoo answer again. "No, not voodoo." she said with a shake of her head. Though now, thanks to these kids, she was curious about it.
Medea didn't even know how to answer that one. The girl's happy tone in comparison to what she said made the professor quite bemused.
At least he wasn't silent. That was a good sign. Though this talk about the cult had her shaking her head a little. "Keeping dark magic away is a good answer." For one...don't join a cult.
SPOILER!!: The smaller details answers
Finally though, some of these students were a little less...creepy. While the class title was pretty much defined by the girl, the last portion had Medea nodding even more. "Yes, there is some portion about staying calm and alert that ve'll be learning." Whether it was today or the next lesson, she wasn't quite sure.
Good, good. She was beginning to think demons was the only answer she was going to get out of a dark room. "You're on the right track, Miss Lockwood.
"You're also on the right track, Miss Greingoth." There was that second Greingoth in the class. Where was the first one again?
"Ve'll be talking a little about it, yes."
"In a way..." she nodded. Oh wait. He added that part about dark creatures. "In...in a way." She'll just leave it at that.
"Yes, ve'll be getting to that." Whether today or the next lesson, it was undecided as of yet.
"Ve most certainly vill." she smiled, before moving on to the next student answering.
Through an obstacle? "In a vay, yes."
Taking a deep breath, Medea quickly put her hair up with the tie she had around her wrist before slowly exhaling. Right. Some of these students had questionable minds, but all in all, she was rather pleased with their thoughts so far. One of the students though had her nodding a bit more and her smile grew a little. Those were the words she'd been hoping to hear one of the kids say. While it wasn't the only thing they'd be learning, it was a topic they'd be going over throughout the year.

Alyssa quickly wrote down the answers that the Professor had verified were correct before assuming the Lotus position. Alyssa had sat in this position many time before with her mother's parents who were Healers. The lotus position one to meditate and relax ones mind. As she relaxed, she thought of an answer to the Professor's question, before raising her hand and answered,"Professor, from what I know the Dark Arts are magical spells and practices that are usually used for malicious purposes. When someone casts a Dark Arts spell, their intent is to purposefully cause harm and pain to someone."

Jezzabelle shifted just a little and managed to get into the proper position. It wasn't comfortable but it would be fine for her...for now. Her hand shot up into the air, "There are three curses of the darkest nature. The unforgivable curse, I believe they are called." That was what she thought of when she heard the words Dark Arts. It was really one of the few things she actually new pertaining to the subject.

The lotus position? Now what would that be?!, Gwen thought and looked around. Finally realizing everyone else already sitting like that, the third year copied the position. This isn't as comfortable as it looks, she decided and looked back at the Professor. Was this whole yoga thing part of the class?
Oh goodie! First question! Dark Arts... is the magic done to cause harm, she wanted to say, but realized other students already mentioned that. 'Dark Arts are not prohibited', the girl finally said. Why not, she had no idea.

Ira beamed as Professor liked her answer. And her name was Professor Romanos. Alright! So her guess had been correct! That was a good start to the class! And then lotus position? Ira had no problem with that. She was used to doing this as Ira's mother used to daily make her do Yoga.
When asked the next question, Ira raised her hand up and was about to answer, when several others already answered what she wanted to say.. So no sense in repeating the same answers, right? So she thought about it.. What else do I know about Dark Arts?
She raised her hand up and answered, "Professor, use of Dark Arts damages the soul of the person using it.." The professor had asked for any one thing only, right?

See, Ellie could do yoga. She could go into this 'lotus position'. It just....wasn't her thing. Instead, she just sat crossed leg. It was too dark to really tell anyway, right? So why bother?
The Dark Arts? Are......dark....? Arty? Erm.... "They involve curses and stuff....?"
You know, Ellie didn't ACTUALLY want to be here. Arya got a sideways LOOK.

Mortimer looked over to Vickers and grimaced. Really? YOGA? SIGHS FOR LIFE. He was a good boy, so he did as he was told...but didn't LIKE it. Once he was in the Lotus Position he raised his hand and said, "Harmful potions and poisons are considering part of the Dark Arts... like brewing them and whatnot."

Lotus position? I hope this is the only one we have to do. Some of those yoga positions could get pretty awkward. Sky rearranged herself into the lotus position and that about the question asked. What did she know about the dark arts? "They're very dangerous and most of them are illegal," she answered. Not to mention scary…

Oooh. This yoga was all quite nice and relaxing. Indy quite liked this lesson already. Indy moved herself into the Lotus position, feeling nice and relaxed, almost feeling like she wasn't in a lesson anymore. But there was a question to go along with the yoga position. Indy thought for a few moments, before raising her hand. "The dark arts are not very nice." Well. The professor had asked them to tell something they knew about the dark arts. And she did know that they weren't very nice. hehe.

The lotus position? Eino didn't have too much trouble answering that question, because soon enough people began moving and readjusting in their seats. They all mimicked the professor's sitting position, so he did the same. At least if he was wrong it meant everyone else was wrong too and he would feel less bad, but he was confident that this was what they were supposed to do. He was peering at the professor for the correct hand placement, when another question was asked. He raised his hand, regrettably, because it ruined his perfect lotus position, and when prompted spoke. "Some dark magic is categorized as such not only because of their intent to harm but because it suspends personal consciousness and personal agency, such as the art of raising the dead and one of the three unforgivable curses." Casting the Imperius Curse alone was sufficient to earn a one trip to Azkaban. The caster didn't have to harm the target. Necromancy was a similar case; practicing it was enough to be considered dark arts, but the practitioner didn't have to kill or harm anyone to do so. Both of these examples could be used to harm, but so could the simplest spells.

"The dark arts are objects, creatures, or spells that are created with malicious intent." She had already moved into the lotus position easily and was giving Ellie looks too. Was that all the sixth year knew? She definitely needed to be here then. Heh.

Taylor loved her professor's accent. She went into the loctus position when the teacher told them too. Taylor loved doing yoga almost as much as she loved studying or as much fun as hanging with Logan was. She smiled at that thought. She almost forgot her professor was talking so she tuned back in and heard the question. Taylor thought for a bit and raised her hand, "DArk arts is the use of magic to do harm and it is illegal or at least mostly illegal." She wrinkled up her nose slightly a little confused if it is all illegal or just most..... not that she was going to do any of it of course. "It can be from poisions to breeding animals to harmful curses or spells like the unforgiveable spells."

Lotus position huh?... well that's unexpected! Ella positioned herself so that she was sitting just like Professor Romanos. She was pretty excited that today was a review class because a)she was a first year and b)she had never had any experience with magic before Hogwarts let alone dark magic.
Ella thought of what she actually knew about the subject matter and the answer was, not much. "Professor, the people who perform dark arts are quite selfish, only thinking about themselves and what they'll gain...not so much the consequences of the magic, right?" Ella hoped she was on the right track.

YOGA?! Adam had not come to DADA to do some yoga. If he wanted to do that he would've gone to one of his quidditch mates to go an stretch with them in his free time. He looked around an saw that everyone was paying attention an moving themselves around. Well, Adam was in class so whatever he thought he had to do it. He sat crossed legged with his hands on his knees.

Mostly review?! ...but--Sierra only had one Defense class under her belt! She hadn't even learned enough to review. Blahh. Not much she could do about it, though, but at least they were learning something new. The lotus position?! What kind of person wanted to sit in a...
Oh. Apparently, the whole class did. People around Sierra started shifting positions left and right, so in the end, she did, too. The lotus position it was.
Now positioned just as she was supposed to be, Sierra raised her hand. "Well..., when you're casting something like a curse, the person casting has to have a true desire to cause pain," she said, lowering her hand. "When we cast non-dark charms or spells, we have to focus on our intent--but I guess with a curse, you have to not only focus on what you're doing, but you have to have a true desire deep down inside to hurt someone."
There. It felt like she talked forever, but at least she managed to only share one thing--just as the professor had asked.

Evelyn had really looked forward to learning some new spells. That was one of the things she loved. Spells. But..she definitely hadn't signed up for this. Sigh.
She sat down in the lotus position. Anyway, this yoga thing might help her to relieve the stress she'd been in for the past few days.
Uh. One thing about dark arts? Well..it was dark. Duh. But..that probably wasn't the answer the professor was expecting that so she went with.. "Dark arts are used to cause harm." Lame.

Yay, so they would be learning that later! Vlimia knew all about being calm yet alert. Wait - REVIEW?!? First-years had nothing to review! Well, she had the Unforgivables, but she did not want to review that. And yoga. Well, that made perfect sense; review and yoga.
Vlimia reluctantly did the Lotus Position, even though she didn't exactly think it was necessary. And now they were moving on to talking about the Dark Arts. Vlim knew a lot about the Dark Arts... but only one thing? Aww... way to rain on Vlimia's Dark Art Knowledge parade. Despite being rained on (metaphorically), she raised her hand. Once chosen, Vlim said "I know that there are three Unforgivable curses: The Imperio Curse, The Cruciatus Curse and the... Killing Curse." She said the last one in a bit of a rush, since it made her think of her cat... she didn't want to think about it. Maybe listing them was a little over-the-top... but if she knew it, why not share it? At least, that was what her Aunt Ivy told her!

Immediately upon the mention of yoga, Nate felt a surge of awkwardness run through him. Not my idea of defense against any sort of Dark Arts, Professor... he thought, reluctantly sitting back up and getting into a rather lazy Lotus. It was more a simple cross-legged, seated position. That was mentally easier for Nate.
"The Dark Arts," he breathed, closing his eyes as he began to relax a little more, "Are a broader part of magic than we all start off thinking. They include not only curses, but jinxes and hexes as well, all of which Hogwarts students use on a daily basis." At least, he and Jez did. How else is one to duel?

Yoga?...lotus position?
Gideon was completely clueless on what they were to do, maybe even more so then when she had asked what they might be learning considering their surroundings. However at least she was providing an example and the Gryffindor watched Professor Romanos get into 'lotus' position, taking a moment or two before moving to mimic the best he could. One thing down, the other to go.
What was Dark Arts? Not a tough question, its whatever interested dark wizards...Grant for example. Unforgivables, poisons and anything in between. Gideon thought for a few minutes on what was ONE example though, hearing ideas from others and not exactly wanting to copy. "Ye have to have the strong intentions for evil things to do Dark Arts," he answered after raising his hand. Aye...that sounded right for the man that came to mind.

Amelia was not really sure what was going on here with all this talk about yoga and the lotus position. She wished Zayden was here, because maybe he would know what the heck this stuff was. She just imitated the class, and tried to think of something about the Dark Arts.

Aurora frowned slightly as she tried to pull her legs into the lotus position. She achieved it eventually and rested her hands in her lap, concentrating on holding the position.
Hmm... something she knew about the dark arts... She raised her hand, "Professor, the dark arts are more of a problem in some countries than others... because of the way their Aurors work." she said. Or so she thought, anyway... did other countries call them Aurors? Was that statement even right? Maybe... at least she was trying.
