DADA Lesson One

Defense Against the Dark Arts Lesson One

Upon entering the classroom, ones first thought could have been that they had walked into the wrong room and was actually joining a cult. The room was exceedingly dark, windows having been closed off with dark burgundy, almost black looking, drapes that hung from ceiling to floor. Deep purple colored mats were lined perfectly from one another on the floor in rows of six while a deep red one sat in the front of them all where Professor Medea currently sat upon. However, one could find their way around the room, for scattered around were a great deal of candles, both lighting portions of the walls, floors, and ceiling itself in a rather ghostly glow fashion. Candles that floated in water surrounded with the stationary candles to light up the particularly extra shiny floor were placed strategically around so no one would accidentally catch fire, while large rectangle like shapes cradling the ceiling with an orange glow gave the final look to the room.

In front of each mat is a parchment already shaped into a long cone to be easily placed in front of you to be read. Of course, the Professor hasn't placed names to face yet, so please come in, complete the task of writing your name on the parchment in a mostly dark room, and become comfortable on one of the mats. Class will be starting shortly!

OOC: Please come in and take a seat on one of the mats [and be familiar with the rules and expectations]. Also, so you aren't referred to as 'that kid' or 'hey you', have your character fill out the name tag so we know who you are. The lesson will begin in about 12 hours or so. Feel free to hang out, but please don't add pages and pages of chatter.

Class has BEGUN! Please don't post a late arrival. Just jump in like your character has been there the whole time.

"Good.....!" Beezus froze at the spot. She had just opened the door into their Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom. She knew there'd be changes since the Professor was also new but she hadn't expected it to be this new. The room was...dark. But there were candles and other glowing things around which made it feel a bit..spooky.

Regaining herself, she bowed at the Professor whom she found sitting on a red mat that was facing a some few purple mats. She immediately figured they'd be sitting there. "Err--hello Professor Romanos," Beezus greeted hesitantly. Somehow, she was feeling quite scared. The room kind of emitted a scary aura.

With another small bow, she headed to a mat on the front but farthest left of the Professor. She placed her backpack down and observed for a moment.

Then she noticed a piece of parchment in front of her and when she looked around, so were on the other mats. Maybe it was for attendance? She raised her hand, "Excuse me Professor, but are we going to write our names here?" she asked as she raised the parchment.

DADA...

Of course a new Professor is teaching this subject again. It has been like that for decades now and Jonathan is used to it already. His father told him stories about his professors, well never ending changing of professors, teaching the subject in his time. This subject really is cursed. He's just hoping this teacher could stay on for long. It would be a big deal if it did happen.

Jonathan walked to the DADA room and looked at all the floating candles. The room was really nice to begin with. Different than the previous terms. Jonathan entered and found himself a seat somewhere in front. It's always a habit of his to sit in front when he likes the subject. That way he could really listen. "Good day Professor" he greeted.

He saw the table with the parchment in it. Were they suppose to write their names? Well, since the professor is new. He took his quill and wrote his name. Jonathan Kim on the parchment.

DuckyLinJi 01-12-2012 01:59 PM

This room was in one word...creepy. He had wondered what the new DADA Professor would be like but now that he saw the classroom he wasn't so sure.

The lesson at the Lake had been freaky because he couldn't swim. NOW he was really in panic. Didn't they know he was scared of fire?! oh right...they didn't...

Standing in the doorway, Daichi tried to act cool but failed as he knew he would loose points if he ran away. Biting his lip in nervousness, he stepped inside and tried to avoid looking at the fire. It were just candle lights but he knew how dangerous they could be. He had witnessed it when he was seven.

"H-h-h-hello Prof-professor" he stuttered, cleary not liking this and it was shown on his face. Now looking for someone he knew, he saw beezus and Jonathan sitting on one of the mats and he sat near them. Not smiling, not waving, he didn't even say an hello. Just staring in front of him as he eyed the fire, desperately wishing himself out of this classroom. And he didn't see the parchment laying in front of him to write his name on.

Glad that she finally had her first Defence Against the Dark Arts class for the year, Nora walked happily to the classroom to find... not exactly what she was expecting.

What in the name of Merlin's sparkly hat has happened to the classroom?

With wide eyes about to pop out of her head, Nora made her way to the closest mat and made herself comfortable, but not before looking at the new professor. "Hello, professor." As soon as she got used to the weird and creepy atmosphere in the room, she noticed the piece of parchment, which only meant she had to write her name on it. Rummaging around her bag, she finally found her quill, which looked way out of place in that room, given the fact it was a pink flamingo feather, and she neatly wrote her name on it.

MudInMyBlood 01-12-2012 02:17 PM

Hannah felt oddly at home in the room. It was almost relaxing to her. Not that she was a creature of the night, but she couldn't deny that it did have a calming effect on her. She looked around to find that there weren't many students here yet. She glanced towards the professor. She was raised to speak when she entered a room so she gave her a nod and a quick hello. "Good day Professor." Then she went and found a seat in the front. Then she went and found a seat in the front. She had a feeling that this would be a class that she would excel in.

Oh goodie! Finally a normal class!, the girl thought while walking along the corridor. After Care of Magical Creatures, Herbology and others, DADA was for sure an improvement. ‘Hello Professor’, the Ravenclaw said as she entered the classroom.

*blink- blink*

Am I in the wrong classroom? Is this even a classroom?!, Gwendolyn asked herself, but finally realized she had nothing to worry about. Finally walking towards what had to be the middle of the classroom, the Ravenclaw took out a quill and wrote her name on a piece of parchment.

Ira walked towards the Defense against Dark Arts class, clutching her bag on her shoulder.

When she entered the classroom, for a moment it almost seemed like she was in a wrong room. The dark room, the candles, the mats... theses did not signify DADA! Definitely something new was going on! Then she remembered that they had a new professor this term for DADA. So was every DADA class going to be so.. so creepy?

Anyways she entered and sat down on one of the mats. But before that she remebered to greet her new professor, "Hello Professor! Um.. I'm Ira Wilson" She had to introduce herself right?

Then she saw the parchment on which some of the students who had arrived earlier had written their names. She figured it was kind of attendance-cum-introductory sheet. So Ira too took out her quill from her bag, and wrote her name on the sheet.

And then she sat down and waited for the lesson to start.

New year, new professor. Selina was excited to actually have a fluid lesson with a present professor. It had been a few years since she had a DADA Professor who was going to be in their classroom everyday. When Selina walked into the classroom she was shocked at how dark the room was. She scanned the room for a professor until she found her. The classroom was set up very oddly. She wasn't sure if she ought to feel nervous about entering this room. Selena had decided it was best for all pets to remain where they belonged - in the dormitories, sleeping. And now, Selena kinda wished she was the one in the dorms sleeping instead of being in the DADA room which was really creepy. And weird. Especially with the floaty candles. Didn't the professor know that it was a fire hazard of some sort? Then again, there were charms to fix things all the time and stuff.

"Hello... Professor," Selena said slowly as she gave the professor a slightly nervous smile. New professor every term, it seemed. Eh, no worries, right? This one would be nice... hopefully, maybe all the candles and stuff were just things to throw them off a little bit - it made sense that way.

Kurumi hurried into the classroom and stopped in the doorway when she saw the way it was set up. Yoga mats? Candles? Were they going to practice meditation? Learn how to harness the power of their chakara to fight against invisible demons or something? Kurumi blinked a few times, trying to let her eyes adjust to the darkness of the room before taking a few timid steps into the classroom.

"Good day, Professor Medea," Kurumi said with a faint smile as she set her bag down beside a mat next to Jonathan. Oh, look who decided to wake up and leave the common room! "I hope your cats are all doing well." Especially the drooling one. Kurumi really liked him. Kurumi then sat down and folded her legs under her, legs underneath her thighs, and rested her body on her heels.

"So, you woke up on time?" she teased, glancing at her...cone? She supposed she was supposed to write her name on that, so she took out her quill and wrote her name and year on it.

When the notice went up for DADA class, Gideon had made a note of it. With a new professor, one could only hope that she stayed and the curse that had once been upon the subject had not returned to stay. He made his way down to the classroom with everything he needed for class slung in his satchel and stepped inside once he reached it. The Gryffindor did a double take at the darkness but when registering the lights he knew it had to be it.
Guess we go dark today unlike last terms brightly lit windows.

“Hello Professor,” he greeted as he spotted her while navigating the room. Spotting Kurumi and Selina already there, he smiled and took a seat on a mat near them. Finding the parchment and having a clue what it was for, he took out a quill and wrote his name before placing it.

Hearing his name being called, Daichi looked away from the fire to look around. Seeing Kurumi sitting in front of him he tried to answer her question but found that he couldn't. His face was pale although it couldn't been seen thanks to the light and his hands plucked on his uniform. His eyes became watery but he blinked to keep the tears from falling.

Was he okay? No! He wanted to get out of here. He was scared. Scared of the fire. He wanted his mother or someone else to hold him! Or even better, make the fire go OUT!

Silvia stepped into the classroom for her first DADA lesson to find a room in mostly darkness, and mats where the desks should be. This is very... strange, she thought, though kind of cool at the same time. It looked as if the room had been prepared for meditation, not for a school lesson. Well, it was called Defense Against the Dark Arts after all, and the room was dark. She wondered if all DADA classes would be held like this , or if this was the exception; either way, definitely not what she had expected. She took a seat in the center of the second row and looked around. Noticing that several of the students had written their names on the paper in front of them, she pulled a quill out of her bag and wrote on her paper:

Silvia Talbot

Silvia wondered what they would be learning first.

Magical Soul 01-12-2012 03:05 PM

Her least favorite. And most lousy subject that gave the girl the creeps by merely reading about it. Louisa was bracing herself when she followed the line of students and paused at the door that opened wide to a... gloomy, candled room. If OWLs weren't due this year, if Louisa wasn't a curious student, and if she didn't feel so crossed and had negative energy from Joao, she would've left without bothering herself into this apparently creepy lesson.

She walked in, tagging with whoever was in front of her. "Goodday," she mumbled to the professor, wherever she was lurking.

Sitting carefully on one of the carpets, Louisa kept her legs underneath her instead of crossing them, basically because that kind of position allowed you to jump and run away in case any attack happened. With this cult like room, Louisa was almost sure that one of the evil spirits would haunt them sooner or later.

With trembling hand and squinting of the eyes, the girl wrote her name.

Daichi, Kurumi and a bit of Jon-Jon, I suppose.. xD

Gaaahhhhh..GULP. She was feeling a lump on her throat as she continued looking around. It was such a scary sight. And then she remembered a certain friend of her who said that he really loved that subject. Honestly, would Mordred really like this kind of atmosphere? She asked herself mentally.

Just then, a few more students entered the classroom. She did not know who were there and she didn't want to talk because she was still feeling creepy until she head a certain voice. Kurumi's and it was talking to someone beside her? When she looked sideways, she found out that Jonathan Kim was beside her and Kurumi on the other side.

Beezus was about to greet them when Kurumi inquired about Daichi. He was there too? And yeap, he was. For when she turned around, Daichi was exactly seated behind Jonathan. She looked at him. He seemed pretty scared too. "Feels like we're in a horror movie setting." she couldn't help but comment yet in a very hushed voice.

Well...it was about time this school got a Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. Sierra had a private defense tutor, but at the same time, this school really needed some proper defense classes. They'd had a good one last school year, but it was good to know there was a permanent professor in the spot.

Walking into the room, Sierra felt like sighing a deep sigh of relief. She didn't, but she felt like it. This room felt like home--like the dungeons. She liked the fact that it wasn't overly bright and colorful. With a pleased smile on her face, she passed by the professor's...err, mat. "Hello, Professor" she said, and then made her way to her chosen mat and sat down. She pulled her quill and ink bottle out her bag, dabbed her quill in the ink, then wrote:

Sierra Greingoth

Oi Oi Jonathon lalala

Tyler had been the first to arrive but he waited outside the classroom until others came because inside looked really scary and he didn't want to sit in there alone with the probably scary professor, so instead he waited for others to arrive.

When enough students were seated he made his way in and sat behind an older Slytherin boy [*coughJon*]. Even if he was a Hufflepuff, he could still hang out with Slytherin people right?

He filled out the paper in front of him and then stared at the boy's back, wondering if he would feel it, if he decided to use his wand and poke him in the back.

If she hadn't already been peering into the room to see who was sitting where and if there were any changes that needed to be made before they began, Medea probably wouldn't have noticed this girl enter the room. No greeting? T'was fine with her. She seemed to be on task anyhow.

"Good day." she greeted happily, smiling even more now. Either the girl didn't like the setting or she was having a bad day. Whichever it was, she got an extra bright greeting.

Slytherin 4th year

"Good morning." she nodded to the girl that just passed by. Good, good. They needed more confidence in this room. All the uneasiness swarming about was making even HER nervous.

And there was another sneaky one that entered the classroom. One that had an interest in that older boy's...back. Oh Merlin, did someone stick a parchment on the kid's back that said 'kick me'? The kid better not kick him.

August wasn't quite as nervous as he was before talkign to Professor Romanos about his first Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson and had put on a brave face as he opened the door to the lesson. He could do this!

WHAAAA?

Um where was he? The Gryffindor squinted as his eyes adjusted and saw that the room had no desks but many mats that had some students on them already. Ok well at least he was in the classroom. Walking further into the room he finally saw the Professor at the front of the class. Wow she really didn't like to be found quickly, did she? Her office was a test to that.

Auggie walked towards her, stopping by the parchment cone and quickly scribbling her name and then offered her a greeting. "Hello Professor Romanos, I'm excited for you lesson today." he flashed a small grin in the candle-light and then scampered off to find a mat close to the front.

Zhenya walked into the class with a smile on her face. She was quite excited for her first DADA lesson. She walked in and took in the scenery of the room. She wasn't sure what to make of it but it seemed to ignite her curiosity as she walked up to the professor "hello professor, I hope you're well. I'm Zhenya" she said.

She got out a quill and wrote her name neatly on the parchment
Quote:

Zhenya Burron - second year Slytherin
and went to take a seat on one of the mats.

Or maybe it was the fact that she could practically feel the stunned expression. Yes. Feel. "Good day." she greeted in return with a smile on her face, whether the girl could see it or not. "Yes, please do write your name. It'll help me greatly."

Beezus merely nodded as the DADA Professor answered her earlier question. She didn't have the guts to say anything else. She was still observing and she was rather getting more and more scared as she observed.

Although still feeling crept out, the young eaglet pulled out her quill from inside her bag and with a few blinks due to the not so dark classroom, she managed to write her name on the parchment.

Daisy walked into the classroom, a little surprised at what it looked like. Had she been a first year, she would have been very confused, and would've assumed she got the wrong room, and would have left, but it was half-full already, and teachers at Hogwarts often changed the classrooms. Shrugging slightly at the weird decor, she walked in furthur and saw everyone sitting on mats, name labels in front of them for the Professor to see. She took a mat near the centre of the classroom and sat on it, reaching forward to write her name on the parchment.

Squinting slightly in the darkness, Daisy wrote her name neatly
