Captain Keefer Quote:
Ella nodded when Keefer suggested a subject to discuss. She didn't really know anything about pygmy puffs so she figured that was as good as any topic to start with. "I think that's a great idea." she said brightly. Happy that he decided to carry on the conversation, Ella listened with a smile. As he talked about the Puffskeins, Ella became quite curious. "What's a Puffskein?" She had never heard of it but was able to add some comment about the pygmy point. "Oh yeah, pygmys are those little people right? Well it makes sense then that these puffs are called pygmys because they are small as well. Probably they average much smaller than most magical creatures just like pygmys average smaller than other cultural groups." Ella finished her sentence with a sigh, having talked quite quickly because she was nervous. It wasn't easy being partners with an older boy, let alone the quidditch captain! |

"Sounds like a plan," Gideon answered. "I already thought on that when I named mine and hoping its not a girl for then Doyle surely doesn't fit." He guessed though that he'd have to simply modify it if he found out it was different. |
Text Cut: Ella "Hey, Barnabus! Or perhaps Baranabus-ina?" A poor attempt at feminizing the name. "Well, however you would make that a girl name if it's a girl," he said, laughing at himself. In response to her Puffskein question, he pulled out his copy of Fantastic Beasts and began to read some sections. "A long-tongued custard-coloured little furball that makes a calming purring noise. These pleasant creatures are often kept as pets, particularly by Wizarding children. As scavengers that will eat anything from leftovers to spiders, they are very easy to care for." He let her see the picture. "They have super long tongues that snake around the house and even up your nose when you sleep!" And... How does she know so much about pygmies? he wondered as she expounded quickly. "Yeah, that could definitely be it! I like that idea. Would you like to move onto a different question?" |

With Aristotle on his shoulder, Tristan once more took a seat to begin their thinking. "What do you think pygmy puffs eat?" he asked. They appeared to be somewhat vegetarian, though perhaps they were onnivores? They could always just attempt to feed the animals a bunch of stuff. It seemed likely that they shared eating habits with puffskeins. |
She sat the text book aside with a sigh,"Anyone need a partner?" She asked quietly. |

Taylor took the list and read through each of them carefully. She wrinkled up her nose at number 8 on the list but resisted saying that they should take that one off. Tay thought about it for a while and finally said, "What about grass, or maybe leaves?" She looked around her, "Or hay....." A rat ran across the barn floor and Taylor held back a scream, "Or maybe.... as disgusting as it is........rats?" |

While she let Taylor decide what she wanted to test feed her Pygmy Puff with, Alyssa looked at the list and then checked her pockets to see what she had. She made a face of disgust when she felt something wet inside her pocket. She pulled it out and discovered that it was a quarter of her tuna sandwich. "Yuck what is this doing in my pocket? Oh well here goes." Alyssa broke off a very small piece of the sandwich and fed it to Nerfball. It sniffed at it for a couple of seconds before its long tongue flew out, grabbed the piece and it swallowed it whole. "Okay. I guess that's a yes to leftover tuna sandwich" |
You guys are doing awesome!!!1 Williamson smiled to see the barn humming with the activity with all of the students working creatively and cooperatively. He stood up and removed Nerf from his shoulder, moving around the semicircle of hay to collect all the nametags. They would serve as a nice form attendance. Once that was done, he moved around between groups, listening in on their planning and plotting. Looked good so far, but perhaps it was time to move the lesson along? He returned to the center of the circle and clapped his hands together loosely, magnifying his voice with his wand. "ALL RIGHT, everyone, let's reconvene here on the hay, sitting next to your partner and your puff. Why don't we go around and have one person from each group say who you worked with and what you came up with. We'll explore the best ideas or most popular questions in today's lesson, as well as do a few fun pygmy puff-owner activities." He nodded and looked to the first student group for answers. |
plus Ro to the Ro.... SPOILER!!: Kurumi Vickers nodded his head thoughtfully at Kurumi's reply "Good point. The Tournament could've been the primary reason for coming up with these exotic creatures, after all they had dragons specially brought in. I could imagine Headmaster Dumbledore having to get clearances for that. Imagine the paperwork that went through in the Ministry." he laughed then after a beat added "But I cant shake the feeling that Groundskeeper Hagrid was just incredibly fortunate that when he had a disastrous breeding incident the Tri-Wizard Tournament was there to.... not cover it up, but at least make best with an incident that could've been really bad for Hogwarts. Impecable timing as it were." he added smirking. Boy would he wouldve wanted to be half as lucky as Hagrid. Then Professor Williamson spoke and had them move towards the hay. He glanced at Kurumi and angled his head for them to find a spot there, then carried Hendrix towards their new seats. |
"I guess we have to get back to report to the Professor, Taylor. We can work on this again later."Alyssa suggested to her. Making her way back to where the Professor was standing, she waited for Taylor to join her. |
Justin looked to Minerva. they had to go back to the hay where the professor was and show their findings....Although they had not gotten very far in their quest. " Come on, Min. we need to go back up to the Professor. " he said. |

"Professor, Vickers and I discussed the issue of whether pygmy puffs are an exception to the Ban on Experimental Breeding. There are other cases of magical creatures being created and having no punishment, such as Blast-Ended Skrewts, so we tried to reason what may have happened." She paused to take a breath, there really was no point in going into the Blast-Ended Skrewts since the subject matter was pygmy puffs at the moment. "A few things that came to mind were the fact that pygmy puffs are not technically a new species, but are only miniature versions of an existing creature - Puffskeins - creating a new breed and not new species." A rather nice little loophole there. "Also, Puffskeins only have a Ministry rating of XX, which means that they are harmless and may be domesticated. The ban Scamander wrote seems to be written in such a way to prevent witches and wizards from crossbreeding species that could result in a creature thats unpredictable or impossible to control, but Puffskeins do not pose this threat." Kurumi lowered her hand now and glanced at Vickers. Hopefully that had been an acceptable summary of their discussion, taking out the details that were not directly related to pygmy puffs. "Assuming that these things are considered in the review process, it would seem that pygmy puffs fall under a different category and the ban does not apply to them." |

...and yes, It. Although..."Who's--..." She just trailed off, though. The next question was being asked, and besides she didn't know any Muggles with the names Addams anyway. Muggles and their weird names. Whoever heard of a parent naming their child It. Did the kid have three heads and nine arms or something when it was born? Ten fingers on each hand maybe? A body full of hair?! She was imagining the worst cast scenario for whoever this It Addams was. She was glad It didn't get an invitation to come to Hogwarts... Quote:

SPOILER!!: Gideon and WWW Oakey was glad the Gideon was just as much into this investigation as he was. Hmmmm, maybe if we compared them to.... Oakey would have finished his sentence but was cut off when Williamson spoke up once more and told the class to gather round and stick with their group. When it came time for the Oakey/Gideon team to speak Oakey looked to the Gryffindor who stayed quiet. I guess it was my idea to figure out the genders of these things. Oakey thought to himself. Professor, Gideon and I thought we'd try and find out how to tell what genders they were. Now for the disappointment. But we couldn't figure it out between our two Pgymy Puffs. If we studied more than just the two little guys or girls, what ever they are. We might be able to figure out some gender difference. |
Keefer looked over at Ella. He doubted that she would be brave enough to speak up, so he decided he would. He raised both hands. "Professor, I'm Keefer Marius and this is Ella.. I never caught her last name, actually!" He should've thought about that before he spoke up. Oh well. "We decided to talk about where the pygmy puff got that pygmy part of its name." "We started from the fact that these creatures are bred from Puffskeins. Those are usually bigger than the pygmy puffs we see here, though that is not conclusive scientific evidence as you asked for." Although, they must have at least thirty different specimens here, so it was likely a valid conclusion. "So we think the pygmy part is meant to refer to their small size. We support this hypothesis with the additional fact that the word 'pygmy' also refers to little people. It makes sense, then, that these puffs are called pygmies because they are small as well. Probably they average much smaller than most Puffskeins and other magical creatures, just like pygmies average smaller than other cultural groups." Had they been scientific enough? Who knew. But at least he had tried to present their discussion as such. |

even if she wasn't on the team. She listened carefully as Keefer read from his book about Puffskeins, even taking some notes so she would have the information in case she ever needed it again. She thought that they sounded a lot like cats...well except for the whole long tongue thing...that was freakish! She made a disgusted face when he told her they might even go up their owners nose! "Ick! No they don't! Is that real life?" She asked, wide eyed. Ella was about to talk about the next question she was curious about-food-when she head the Professor address the group. Quote:

He chuckled when the Pygmy puff tried hiding on his neck. "I'm not sure what gender it is, want to find out?" And NOT by finding its...yeah. Maybe comparing Kent and Violet. There had to be differences between male and female pygmy puffs, right? He examined both puffs and came to a small conclusion. "Violet is smaller than Kent," he said, observing both creatures. "And violet has traces of eyelashes. Maybe a female trait?" he said, looking at Selena. Kennedy turned his attention away from the puffs when professor Williamson began speaking... |

She said, "Um.. I'm really not sure as to what we are actually supposed to do? Find answers to the questions written on the board, perhaps?" But then for that, they would need to use the library, right? So what did they have to do exactly? She recalled the instructions again and saw the list she had written down. "Fine, lets choose a question and try to answer it.. You choose!" Ira said to Zhenya, while petting her own pygmy puff Viola. "See these are the list of questions.." Text Cut: Questions |

Alyssa raised her hand and shared with the class what she and Taylor were doing. "Professor we decided to work on What the Pygmy Puffs ate? We came up with a list of what we thought the Pygmy Puffs would most likely eat and decided to feed it bits. If they rejected it then, we know that they didn't eat it. If they liked it, then we left it on the list. Text Cut: List of Food that Pygmy Puffs might eat We first started feeding my Nerfball bits of some leftover tuna sandwich, which he or she seemed to love eating and he or she is still alive, so I think that they are okay with eating that. We were going to start on the next food to feed it when you called us to report back to you." |
