...until it seemed like that had been one of his worst ideas yet. Great. The Skrewt took offense to the candy-throwing as if they had been bombarding him with sweet bombs. Shoooooot.

"Sorry, sorry Mr. Skrewt," he squeaked, holding his hands up in a surrender-like gesture. He simultaneously took a step back, hoping he wasn't stepping on anyone and also hoping that the kids got the message to move back too. "The candy was supposed to be a gift for you, Mr. Skrewt. Ignore that bowtruckle there, too. It's not mine."

The Skrewt could EAT the bowtruckle for all HE cared.

"Laura......!" William called out, his voice getting higher with nervousness at the sight of the girl standing like THISCLOSE to the fully-grown skrewt. "Laura, it's not a creature of sufficient intelligence to understand you. Now get back over here THIS INSTANT."

Or by Merlin he was going to pull the car over pick her up and CARRY her back to the castle. Damn HUFFLEPUFFS!

"Oakey," William turned his head and growled at the boy, having heard every word the Hufflepuff had just said, "We already know about the underbelly. I literally JUST went over that." He rolled his eyes and held out his hand toward the kid.

"Give me your wand and I'll show you how you really handle a skrewt." He made a snapping motion with his fingers. Come on, kid. Help the professor out.

When the Professor started moving back a bit, Amelia quickly followed suit, not wanting to get her toes stepped on. It was also an excuse to step farther away from the creature.

When he asked a boy for his wand, she held hers tighter just in case it turned out he didn't have it on him. But he did, so it was okay. She sighed in relief.

Hey is that the same thing that we fought in the pathways? I mean the same exact skrewt. Doesn't he look familiar He whispered to his younger housemate. We should tell them about it's underbelly. shouldn't we? We'll everyone except Williamson, he would know wouldn't he. He's the COMC professor for Merlin's sake.

Ella felt herself get bumped and jumped suddenly, afraid the skrewt had somehow broken through the wall of prefects in front of her. She was relieved to see Oakey there instead. "It-It's okay, Oakey." She whispered, not wanting to disturb the skrewt. The small badger simply nodded at his question about the skrewt as she thought it probably was the same frightening creature from the pathways. Then when he asked about the underbelly, she simply pointed to the Professor, indicating he knew and had shared.

SPOILER!!: Williamson

Ella couldn't help but frown at Laura who seemed not to care about the seriousness of the situation. She hoped she would listen to Williamson and get back. Then Professor Williamson had asked for Oakey's wand and Ella was surprised but extremely relieved. She wanted desperately for the skrewt to be gone and she wished she had a notebook in hand so she could take notes on how Williamson would accomplish the task.

Laura looked at the Professor, what was he so scared of anyway, the Skrewt was lovely and it seemed harmless, so it could shoot fire but well so could fireworks but they weren't dangerous as long as you used them rightly so why would a Skrewt be dangerous.

Laura sighed at the Skrewt and whispered. "Sorry MR Skrewt, but the man wants me to go to him and if I don't listen then he might take house points of me, so I best do what he say." Laura then looked at the Professor giving him a cold hard stare before walking upto him, nope she wasn't going to go behind him or anything she still wasn't scared of the creature. "Professor why are you scared?" Seriously the Skrewt was lovely.

I didn't carry any with me today Alyssa. I think my luck is finally changing. he whispered back. Not a bad thing has happened to him for over a month. "Yes, for real," Williamson repeated, almost rolling his eyes as all his patience had been used up when a bowtruckle had attacked his hand. He snatched the wand away from Oakey with a crooked grin and flexed his stiff left hand, hoping the bowtruckle bite wouldn't hinder him from using the wand.

Now that William had a wand, he did not hesitate in turning it on the still chattering Hufflepuff, Laura. "Laura, for the last time, the only thing I'm SCARED of is having one of my STUDENTS get EATEN by a SKREWT!" No he wasn't even scared of THAT but he sure as hell didn't want to have to do the paperwork involved with a student injury!

So that explained why he cast a good loud, "SILENCIO!" on the Puff, tilting his head toward the girl's preferct, Arya. "I apologize for silencing your classmate, Ms. Lovegoods, but the girl endangers herself and everyone else each time she opens her mouth. Somebody please restrain her."

Then he took a step forward, toward the blast-ended skrewt, and raised Oakey's wand. "Okay guys, what we're going to do here involves a little teamwork. That's right: teamwork. When I count to three, I want everyone who has a wand and knows the levitation charm to cast it with me. We're directing the charm AT the blast-ended skrewt, no where else, and we're going to get it up in the air and turning over so it's on its back."

They were going to send the skrewt belly-up in the air, in other words, and then William was going to deal with it from there. "Ready? The incantation is Wingardium Lev-i-O-sa with a swish and a flick." He looked around at the students and gave them all a reassuring nod, his own face showing nothing but the utmost confidence.

"On three, now. One.......two........ THREE!"

He didn't want a student to be eaten by the skrewt!? O___O Ella's eyes grew wide and she shivered a little, hoping that one of the prefects would grab Laura before anything dangerous happened to her. She didn't want to see her hurt!

Surprised to hear that Williamson wanted the students to help, she tried to shake off her nerves so she could participate. Alright...it's fine...it's only a skrewt. A skrewt that farts FIRE...no, it'll be fine. Just concentrate.Ella wanted desperately for the skrewt to go away so they could get on with the lesson danger-free so taking a deep breath, she raised her wand and waited for the count, going over the incantation in her head.

When Williamson said three, Ella spoke as confidently as she could. "Wingardium Lev-i-O-sa!" With a swish and a flick, she hoped she had done it correctly.

Alyssa watched as Oakey handed his wand over to Professor Williamson. Alyssa was glad that the Professor had a wand even though it wasn't his and hoped that the wand would work with him. But she then realized that now Oakey was Wandless!! She slowly moved closer towards him and was glad to hear when Oakey told her that he had not been wearing his lucky charm for over a month and that it seemed that his luck was holding up. Alyssa smiled. As long as he kept believing that he didn't need it, she was perfectly glad to support him into thinking so. "I'm glad to hear that your luck is holding up. Hopefully the jinx has finally worn off but right now since you gave your wand to the Prof. and you don't have one, would you mind if I stood next to you? I know I'm not as good as the Prefects or Professor Williamson, but I will try to protect the both of us with my wand, if anything does happen. I'll help watch your back." Alyssa whispered to him.

Then she heard the Professor instruct them to point their wands at the Skrewt and cast the levitating spell."okay here goes,"she whispered to Oakey.

Standing up tall, Alyssa took a second to concentrate on the spell before yelling out,"Wingardium Lev-i-O-sa" and with a swish and a flick of her wand, directed the spell at the Skrewt.

There were several things that Selena Zabini-Riddle did not like about this lesson. One was her pygmy puff almost being eaten. Two was weird stuff attacking them. Three was LOSING HER CANDY (which the professor OWED them all now) and the last was the stuff being there and not EATING the candy she had thrown. What a waste of SUGAR. Selena drew her wand and listened for instructions, her eyes were trained on the pile of candy. All that candy and sweets just... there... not doing anything. Her poor beloved candy.

Hehe... student got silenced. Selena tried not to let a giggle escape her, really she did, so instead she listened to the professor's instructions.

"Wingardium Leviosa," Selena said, performing a swish and flick motion that she had learned WAAAAAY too long ago. Would they get their candy back now?

Quick Quotes Quill 03-18-2012 05:51 PM

Some of the students found the creature lovely… some of them thought it was creepy… and Gwen had no idea if the creature was as dangerous as some feared. It was just some sort of an animal, after all. Wait a second- where did the bowtruckle go??? Everyone seemed to be very focused on every move of the skrewt, and no one knew where the other one went? Or did just Gwen not see it go away?

Right. At least one thing she could do- cast the spell. After all, she wanted to use it to hang William in the Whomping Willow in her first year at Hogwarts… Anywaaay---Pointing her wand at the skrewt, Gwendolyn glimpsed at the Professor, then tried to pay attention to cast the spell in time. ‘Wingardium Leviosa’, the young Ravenclaw said loud and clear.

Now what?

Lady of Light 03-18-2012 05:55 PM

HUH!? WILLY was scared that a student might get eaten by a skrewt? o_O

Evelyn backed away a little more, trying to get as far away from the creature as possible. She was a little happy to hear him say that it would be teamwork. Good. At least, she got to do something..something that would distract her from that scary looking skrewt.

So, with a swish and flick of her wand, she said with confidence, "Wingardium Leviosa."

WhittyBitty 03-18-2012 06:58 PM

Amelia nodded as she listened to Professor Williamson tell them exactly what they were going to do. At last she was a total expert at this spell by now, having learned it years ago.

Raising her wand and pointing it at the skrewt, she waited for the count and then with a swish and flick called out, "Wingardium Leviosa!"

Oakey slapped his palm to his face. He didn't want his own wand to silence a Housemate! I mean it was Laura and Laura did have a big mouth and well this would be the second time she was silenced but not with his wand! Oh the inhumanity! Why was he always involved with shutting Hufflepuff's up.

The plus side to this was that Professor Williamson could use his wand perfectly. Also Oakey was right to use Wingardium Leviosa in the Pathsways back then, when the Skrewt launched itself onto Professor Jenkins. You just needed 10 or 15 more students to actually get a result in lifting it into the air.

Alyssa would protect him?!?! Oakey felt perfectly safe behind a Professor who had no trouble using his wand, maybe even better than himself. Oakey had a small smile on his face, he was enjoying this lesson way to much. I'll be fine Alyssa, thank you though.

As soon as Williamson got to three Oakey said Wingardium Lev-i-O-sa with the rest of the class pointing his finger at the skrewt. He knew it would do nothing, but he was enjoying himself to much now not to join in with the rest of the class.

Nerida looked over at the Puff who was silenced...Yikes...She raised her hand, she had remembered Wingardium Leviosa from when her brothers had taught her, and the Charms Professor of cousrse. One...Two...Three, Wingardium Lev-i-O-sa! She remembered how her sister had said it one Wingardium Leviosar, that was a great laugh.

Vickers gripped the wand in his hand a little tighter, having to wonder if a spell would even work on a Skrewt given how spells would technically bounce off of it. With a tiny shrug he made a careful aim between the Skrewt and the ground on which it stood, then uttered the spell with the wandstroke "Wingardium Leviosa!"

Weasley174 03-18-2012 10:46 PM

Laura looked at the Professor, oh when he lifted the silence spell of her the first thing she was going to do was complain about him to her head of house, surely there was a rule against professor casting a spell on students and because of that even though she had a wand she wasn't going to help the Professor, nope well she couldn't anyway because she couldn't say the spell.

Laura hoped that the Professor wouldn't hurt the Skrewt to much because well it wasn't meaning any harm, she stared at the Professor wondering when he would take the spell of her so she could at least talk again, well if the Professor cared about the students he wouldn't cast spells against them, so Laura was sure he was lying there.

"It's totally fine, Professor, I understand." A dismissive shrug rolled off her shoulders and she reached to grab a hold of the younger girl, and bring her back behind herself and the professor as instructed. Since she was sorta Arya's responsibility. The prefect had been around enough dangerous creatures to know that things like not following instructions got people hurt.

Plus she apparently wasn't against Puffs getting silenced this term.

Her gaze, which had been drifting between the little badger, the professor, and the skrewt settled on the girl for a moment longer. "I know the skrewt doesn't seem dangerous, but he kinda is. Stay behind me and listen to the professor else you'll get someone sent to the infirmary." And Arya did NOT want to take a trip there for any reason. Hence her repeating WWW's words.

Then she turned her full attention back to the creature in front of the professor and gave a practiced swish and flick in it's direction, casting nonverbally.

Now that the Professor had a wand, Daichi felt alot more safer than before. His shaking hands flicked his own one out of it's holster and it slided in to his hand and he rubbed his eyes with the sleeve of his Slytherin robe to get the water out. Sniffing, he decided to help out as well.

He did NOT step away from the Professor but stayed beside him like a lost puppy even when he moved. Just as he raised his wand, Laura was silenced with the silencio charm and he gave a quiet giggle. Right, leviosa... he had had this spell when Professor Desco...that dude with the difficult last name was teaching Charms.

"W-W-W-W-Wing..wingard-d-dium Levi-o-osa!" The Slytherin stuttered as he swished and flicked his quivering hand. Nothing happened on his part and he lowered his wand. "I-i'm sorry Professor..." he apologized. He just simply could not concentrate well. Hopefully the others could do it.

Laura was now really annoyed and wasn't thinking when she stood on the Prefects toes accidently on purpose as she grabbed hold of her and pushed her behind them, this was the problem with loads of Giants in one area they were mean, the Professor was the biggest Giant and the meanest of the lot, she was going to call him Professor Meany when she could talk again.

Laura would have appologise to the Prefect for standing on her toes but well she couldn't so well hopefully they wouldn't realise that she did it on purpose and so she wouldn't get into trouble though she would wait until she could speak before complaining about being forced behind them, though she decided to listen to her Prefect and hide behind her until the creature left, Laura was starting to think she might have to read up on them, to see why everyone was so worried.

Kurumi watched as Professor Williamson silenced Laura. That was the second time that the Puff had been silenced this term and THIS time no one could blame Kurumi for it. Sure, Kurumi had been more than a little trigger happy this term with her spells and she atoned that to her emotions being haywire. At least Arya didn't mind. Or, if she did, she hadn't said anything to Kurumi about it.

Before getting to the spell herself, Kurumi flashed Daichi a quick smile. There...was always something about him and fire... So, hopefully to make him feel a little better, Kurumi positioned herself next to him before she swished and flicked her wand. "Wingardium Leviosa."

BLAST-ENDED SKREWTS! 03-19-2012 04:40 AM

The Skrewt swung it's stinger around a little bit more...enjoying the looks on the students' faces. It shot fire out and bolted towards one that seemed to think it was a friendly creature that wanted to be pet and loved or something...what was wrong with this child and why hadn't the professor taught it some manners and how to handle such a dangerous, but fiery, animal.

It was just about to wiggle around to shoot the clueless student in the face when it felt a tingling sensation in its toes. It moved its head from side to side frantically as it saw the ground getting a little further from it. Was it growing taller or what....and then it saw all of the wands pointed at it...and now the professor had a wand and not a bowtruckle...about time...

The Skrewt began wiggling its legs under it as it raised up...this was ridiculous and scary...and the last straw...it wiggled in the air so that it's back end was facing the group of students and it started shooting out fiery blazes towards the little huddle. It really hoped to burn a few students if not burn their eyebrows off...that would teach them for pelting the innocent animal with objects and then levitating the poor skrewt...these students needed to learn some manners...

The Puff felt sorry for Laura. But she had been chattering a bit too much.

Jory raised his wand and aimed it at the Skrewt. When the Professor counted to three he joined the class to cast the spell. "Wingardium Leviosa!" he said giving his wand a swish and a flick and dodged just in time as the creature began shooting blazes towards the group.

Alyssa peeked out from behind the Professor as was glad to see that their spell was working. The Skrewt was slowly being raised and she was about to cheer up and down with joy, when she noticed that the Skrewt was wiggling itself into a position where it's fiery end was facing towards....THEM!!! "LOOK OUT EVERYBODY, DUCK!!" Alyssa yelled out in warning before grabbing Oakey and the Professor at the same time and diving down to the ground for cover and covering her head.

THREE!"

Still safely behind Professor Williamson, Stella's eyes had widened as he'd suddenly gotten angry at the littlle Hufflepuff who had tried to reason with the skrewt earlier. Skrewts don't really eat people, do they?, she wondered, going back to everything she knew about the creatures as she tried to remember if they were carnivores. All she could remember was that their weak spot was their underbelly, and that it was better to stay away from their back end. At least, she'd rather not get singed, explaining why she was going to stay safely behind the professor unless anything got too close to the pygmy puff enclosure. She still wasn't about to let all those pygmy puffs get incinerated. But she had poked her head out when the professor had asked everyone with a wand to help him levitate the skrewt. She wasn't sure what exactly that was supposed to do, but she poked her wand hand around him as well and, making sure no other students were in the way, cast along with everyone else. "Wingardium Leviosa!"

It had seemed like it was working. At least, the skrewt was rising off the ground, but it also had started wiggling ominously. Any ideas that it was just an innocent baby skrewt went out the window, and she'd ducked her head back behind Professor Williamson as she decided she didn't want to see what the creature was going to do. Wiggling dangerous creatures were bad. Very bad. And then she'd heard Alyssa's warning, and threw herself to the ground as the younger Puff had grabbed the professor and her housemate whose wand the professor had borrowed, curling her wand arm close to her to protect her wand from flames and accidental breakage from hitting the ground.

The girl was stepping on her toes as Arya moved her behind herself, but right now she didn't care. There was a DANGEROUS CREATURE right in front of them, and coming even closer thanks to her. If they got injured because of her Hadley was going to hear of this. She probably was going to anyway.

Why was it seeming that all of their attempts on the creature were just seeming to make things worse? Her eyes widened in alarm at both the fire and the students dropping to the ground and taking the professor with them.

HEWASNOGOODTOTHEMDOWNTHERE!!

Dropping her levitation spell, she flicked her wand in a quick and practiced upward arch. "Protego!" The translucent shield formed around her instantly, and with the horizontal movement of her wand that followed, extending around as much of the class as she could cover.

Kurumi and Selena both got LOOKS once the shield was up, looks that, while not panicked, clearly said they needed to get rid of the flames fast before her shield weakened from the attack.

sweetpinkpixie 03-19-2012 09:23 AM

It was a war zone. A bloody war zone where it was raining fire and people were tackling others to the ground. They had been told already to NOT panic and Kurumi couldn't help but roll her eyes at it all. With Professor Williamson, erm, preoccupied at the moment, Kurumi took another bold step forward so she was even with Arya again and began an upwards arching movement when...

Oh good, Arya and her were on the same page. Assessing the damage, it was obvious that all this fire wasn't going to be a good thing and risked the entire area burning down - maybe even a tree or two since some of the flames were creeping up some leaves, Kurumi twirled her wand in her fingers and simply nodded when Arya looked at her. It was that prefect ESPN ESP thing they had going on.

"Aguamenti," Kurumi chirped, thrusting her wand at the various locations that were burning, putting out the flames and saving a tree or two. Pausing for a moment, Kurumi pointed her wand at the blast-ended skrewt itself when an idea came to mind. "Professor, I know you are....um...indisposed at the moment..." Because someone just tackled you to the ground. "But...do you think casting Aguamenti on the blast-ended skrewt could prevent him from shooting more fire?" Because that would be super helpful and then they could get a little closer and deal with all this better.

And no, that was NOT the cue for everyone to start casting Aguamenti all over the place...especially not AT the creature.

DuckyLinJi 03-19-2012 11:52 AM

Daichi admired the two Prefect's Arya's and Kurumi's courage as they helped trying to get things in order. The young Slytherin wanted to be brave as well but his fear for fire was stronger. His eyes never left the skrewt as it rose up in the air and ...turned towards them...

Even when Alyssa shouted the word DUCK he didn't respond. Normally he would try to see where the cute ducky was like in DADA but this time he looked in trance, as if his mind was not here but his body was.

As the Skrewt shot fire towards them he continued to stand still and upright unlike the people who were ducking for cover. The fire hit a few trees and a blast landed a few feet to his side. He hadn't even noticed it anymore and stared blankly in front of him.
