The surface of the lake ripples serenely in the warm September sunlight, but its docile appearance is a thinly veiled disguise for the complex and icy cold waters down below.
Keep your wand at the ready and one eye trained for any approaching grindylows! Don't forget to swim deep, swim hard, and keep sight of your professors in your search of what has been taken from you.... for your destination is still a good swim away.
Nicki quickly ran into the lake and started swimming after the others. Once she had caught up with them, she looked around to notice that they were actually swimming among some ruins. It was so beautiful that Nicki almost forgot to keep an eye out for the Grindylows that were definitely lurking around.
Then she saw them. They were swimming around below them, using the darkness to hide themselves. One even waved at her!! Nicki kept her hand close to her wand holster that was strapped to her right thigh as she swam along with the others.

Alyssa quickly ran into the lake and started swimming quickly to where she saw the rest of the students had disappeared in the lake. Thank goodness she was a champion swimmer and surfer because she was going to need her skills now to catch up with the rest. Once she reached the spot, she took a deep breath and did a surface dive, immediately swimming down quickly into the depths of the lake. It was only after swimming for almost a minute did Alyssa realize that she didn't need to hold her breath. 'Duh! Lyssie. You ate the Gillyweed you can now breath.' Alyssa took her first underwater without the aid of any scuba gear or oxygen tanks and it felt good. Swimming with strong strokes, Alyssa quickly caught up with the rest of the students.
Now that she had finally caught up with Professor Williamson who was swimming last, Alyssa looked around her. There were indeed underwater dwellings in the Black Lake. Then Alyssa saw a movement from the corner of eye. She looked and saw a creature that looked like a Grindylow. Then Alyssa noticed that there were actually more of them, hiding in between the dwellings and rocks, trying not to be noticed. Alyssa checked to make sure that her wand still securely holstered to her right thigh and within reach of her hand.
Out of the mysterious depths of the lake came a small, horned water demon. It hovered out of wand range of the group of humans but remained within sight as it leered at them and bared its sharp, green teeth.
The demon wiggled its long fingers at a few of the girls and continued floating just out of range, intent on watching the humans.
Messer was enjoying the fact that he can breath underwater all thanks to the Gillyweed. He was swimming, swimming and swimming then out of no where there were GRINDYLOW!
But the water demon just stand there doing nothing that mean he didn't has to jinx them but still that creature scare him so he swam a little faster toward Professor Scabior. Its more safer if he was swimming near him.

Nicki loved swimming in the lake. As long as she kept an eye out for the Grindylows, she felt safe. It was definitely nice to be able to breath under water. She kept close to the other students especially Professor Scabior just in case the creatures decided to attack them. He would definitely protect them.

Alyssa swam along with the rest of the class. Enjoying the view of the underwater world but keeping a wary eye on the shadows lurking among the plants and ruins of the underwater dwellings. The Grindylow were definitely out there and who knows maybe even the Merpeople and the Lobalugs. Alyssa made sure that she kept a constant vigil while enjoying the experience of swimming among the plants and the underwater ruins in the Black Lake.
Laura was trying to ignore the water demon and so she was thinking about something else, she then saw the Professor pointing to follow him and so Laura decided that she was going too, he seemed to know what he was doing.
With every breath she needed to inhale, Melanie worried she would drown. It was definitely a new concept: relying on a slimy hunk of plant to allow you to breathe underwater. Looking around at the fellow students, she watched their gills -that was a disgusting concept- move slightly as they gleaned oxygen from the water. She fought the urge to touch her own neck, knowing she would likely vomit into the water if she did.
Trying to distract herself by focusing on the scenery, Melanie took in the various rock formations and towering kelp. As she was looking around, a flicker of movement in her peripheral vision caught her attention. Turning her head in that direction, Melanie noticed a...creature of some sort. It was sickly looking, skeletal almost, and by the way it was eyeing the group Melanie could tell it wasn't friendly. Maybe that's a Grindylow, she thought, a lump rising in her throat as she watched the horrid thing wiggle its fingers at them longingly.

Is that a classmate beside you, or a Grindylow?
She looks around making sure a Grindylow isn't behind her and then goes to catch up with the class.

Yikes! It was getting darker the deeper they were going into the lake, and Sky was starting to get a little scared. Wait… was something coming at her? Just keep going she thought. Maybe it'll leave you alone if you're moving…

Gideon continued swimming in the lake water, the water that was thankfully begining to warm. Or at least he was getting used to the chill. At first it wasn't hard to see beneath the water's surface, the fifth year easily making out the older men guiding them down wherever they were going as well as the other students of various ages swimming around him. But as they got further and further and deeper and deeper, it was getting quite dark.
Why do I have a bad feeling about this, he mused himself as he paused, his eyes darting around. They had mentioned the various possibilities of creatures in the lake and one couldn't help but be aware that they could be around anywhere. Okay...standing...well floating wasn't helping and he was aware of the shadows that were once friendlies getting further and further away. So with a few strong kicks Gideon took off swimming once more hoping he was still going in the right direction.

O..Oh no.. she tried to sigh but it didn't come out really not all.. The lake was dark, cold and she terrified that a grindylow would be at her feet if she looked down, not the best feeling nor place.. she looked around at her feet and hands even the thought of grindylows was scary..
Now, Ira was beginning to become a little more frightened! It was becoming darker and darker in theses waters.. and Merlins knew where the professor wanted to take them, and that too, for non-educational purposes! Was it even so necessary?
Ira even considered going back, but wasn't too prepared to face Scabior's wrath! So tired and doubtful, she continued to keep besides her classmates. No, she did not wanna get lost here!
"Oh no! Oh no! Oh no!" this was all that Sophie could think at the moment. She wasn't liking it while she could see, now that it was getting darker it was going to be so much worse! There wasn't anything else she could do but swim close to everybody else and not freak out. Because freaking out would make everything get worse! If that was any possible... "Oh no! Oh no!"

As it gets darker Minerva starts feeling her anxiety kick in. She started feeling her heart race, she coudn't even make out people near her. She just kept swimming forward hoping to get to where ever soon. She really wanted to use the light spell on her wand, but wasn't sure if they are allowed and to afraid to lose points she decides not to.
Kennedy followed the group, but in a brief moment he paused for a bit. He had a sinking feeling that something was staring at them. Maybe it was just him being overly paranoid again. It always happens.
Ignoring it, he kept swimming. As they went deeper in it began to grow darker as well. He wasn't the type to be scared of the dark, but knowing that there were creepy creatures down here wasn't comforting. Kennedy sensed something near him and hoped to Merlin that it was a student or even Mr. Henry.
As Eino proceeded further into the lake, he was still skeptical about encountering grindylows. He wasn't afraid of them, no; he didn't want to hurt them. If merpeople could domesticate grindylows and have them as pets, then why couldn't wizards? That's it! Eino would have to find a merperson, preferably a mermaid, and request some insight and knowledge in the domestication process of grindylows. First, he was going to have to learn mermish. That would be difficult, but maybe he would be able to find a few books in the library. Now that that was solved, all that Eino had to worry about was getting lost in a dark lake, without even knowing which way was up, and a ticking clock on his gillyweed. Follow the bubbles, just follow the... there are no more bubbles. All there was left was searing cold water and endless darkness.

Even William started feeling nervous about the darkening of the water as he swam after the last of the students, who just happened to be Alyssa Potter. Weird. He couldn't see the hand in front of his face, but he COULD, fortunately, see at least a little of the wake left behind the group he was following.
No more grindylows were being sighted. Yet.

Jezzabelle wanted to cry. Oh how she wanted to cry. It started to get darker and it was getting harder and harder to see. She couldn't tell who was next to her or who was behind her, above her, or below her. She kicked and kicked hoping that she was at least still with the group.

No one is going to die today, Max reminded himself. They were completely safe. The professors wouldn't have brought them somewhere dangerous for a class. No way.
While Max wasn't scared, a chill went up his spine as they descended deeper into the lake. The sensation of the gillyweed had creeped him out enough for one day, but the low visibility brought forth even worse anxiety. As he swam, he trailed close behind Eino, almost getting kicked in the face a few times - but at least he could feel the water pressure to know where he was going. He found himself consciously checking to make sure he still had his wand. In the excitement of everything, it would not be good to lose that, especially after the grindylow sighting in more visible water. Of course even more creatures lurked below.
On top of being nervous about not being able to see things around him, it was still very, very cold. He hoped the other students were all still okay.

And then everything got darker. Kurumi had to resist the urge to take out her wand and cast Lumos to help her see. They had not been instructed to, so it was probably a bad idea. Who knew what sort of creatures in the deep they would attract if they all swam with their wands lit like a little army of underwater lanterns.
Still, Kurumi couldn't help but wonder where Mr. Henry was. They had discussed in class how he protected against grindylows, so shouldn't he be with them right now?
Trying to calm herself, Kurumi swam onward, continuing to dolphin kick the entire way.

Speaking of seeing...where was Professor Scabior? Kurumi had, erm, sort of lost him and the wake was becoming harder to see as well.
Lumos? Please? Professors?

Alyssa turned to see whether Professor Williamson was okay. He was right behind her. She decided to slow down, so that the Professor could catch up with her. Being the last person wasn't exactly safe for him either, even if he was the Professor and could defend himself better than any of the students. It was dark here in the lake and Alyssa wished that she could use her wand and use the LUMOS spell to at least have some light down here but she suspected that it might draw the Grindylows out and that's not what anyone wanted. So she contined to swim in the dark with the others.

Jezzabelle felt something come up beside her and she prayed it wasn't a demon of the deep. She wanted to reach out to whatever it was and get and answer but she decided against it. Instead she squinted and looked really hard. It looked like a student. Who would swim next to her anyway? Kurumi? Oh if only she could speak. At least it wan't something evil though. She kept going and hoped that eventually they'd stop and do what they needed to do and then go.

Eino was fairly certain that had been no sounds for the past several minutes, but now he heard something. He looked around helplessly, trying to see where it came from but nothing but darkness was in sight. Eino continued onward, and so the noise. Eino slowed down, so did the noise. Eino sped up, so did the source of the sound. This was worrisome. Eino kicked his legs and continued. He sure hoped it wasn't a grindylow following him, trying to grab his toes and nibble on them. He looked over his shoulder and he couldn't see anything. He couldn't stop to check either, that was probably what the grindylow wanted. For now, he just swam, hoping for the least worst, because, let's be face it, there was no best case scenario.

Okay now, who was turning down the lights? Kimalia was having a difficult time making out the people in front of her now, should she swim faster? Ugh, if only she could do wordless magic, but nope she had to keep swimming.
