CoMC/HoM: In the Lake The surface of the lake ripples serenely in the warm September sunlight, but its docile appearance is a thinly veiled disguise for the complex and icy cold waters down below. Keep your wand at the ready and one eye trained for any approaching grindylows! Don't forget to swim deep, swim hard, and keep sight of your professors in your search of what has been taken from you.... for your destination is still a good swim away. |
If the students had been worried about the lake being cold...they were right. Big deal. Scabior blinked a few times his eyes getting used to the change. He swam down a bit deeper into the slightly unknown waters as he waited for more students to catch up. |
William had caused a great splash when he dived in but it was hardly noticeable in the darkness of the lake water. He swam after Dash and then kind of floated off to the side, eying his hands with wide eyes as they slowwwwwly grew webs. Awesome. AWESOME. It had been a long time since he had used gillyweed... he'd have to take Seren thank-you flowers later. |
Sweet Merlin, this was cold! Amelia's teeth chattered as she entered the lake, and she felt that she'd never make it. She hated being in cold water, and she wanted to be on land again... which was getting harder and harder the more she transformed. She looked at her hands and saw the webbing getting bigger. Her feet would be doing the same transformation. And it was getting harder and harder to breathe air into her lungs. When it got too hard to breathe and she felt that she was fully transformed, she submerged herself completely and started swimming after Professor Scabior. |
Taylor dived down into the lake. She didn't notice how cold it was. She swam over to where the professor and other students were. |
After the transformation, Hades held his wand firmly as he entered the lake and submerged himself. He saw a girl (Squishy) who was probably a few years older looking like she was freezing. He smirked, these people wasn't used to this kind of temperature, eh? But it was just the right temperature for the former Durmstrang. His body still wasn't used to the warmer climate of Scotland. Just in case, the boy swam nearer to the professors up ahead. Then he realised the atmosphere under here. It was rather dark. No wonder it was named the Black Lake. |
As if TAKING the actual gillyweed wasn't bad enough...this water was COLD. If he got sick because of this lesson, someone was going to PAY. Alex had been healthy for nearly four years straight now, he was not about to break that record anytime soon. His nose, fingers and toes were all starting to get numb with the cold, but he tried to ignore it as he saw up to the professors and the rest of the students. Uggh. Why couldn't they provide cool wetsuits for them too?? |
Minerva hurried over to the lake by the time she got there her fingers had the webbing as well. She jumped in quickly not wanting to many people to see her in that form. The water was cold, but she got use to it quickly. She made sure she could see the professors and had her wand in her hand. |
*SPLASH* Oops, not the grandest entry Kimalia wanted to make. She wanted to do a beautiful swam dive like those muggle fantasied mermaids into the lake but only managed to trip while getting the running start. Oh yeah one more thing.. IT WAS COLD. Well, for about the remaining time it took for her body to fully transform. Okay, Kimalia is now a fish girl and can now follow the Professors into wherever they were taking them with her wand at the ready for any evil fishes coming her way. Just keep swimming, just keeping swimming.. |
She shivered some and swam to join the others as quickly as she could. |
Once under water it took a second for her to become aware of her surroundings. First thing she noticed were her hands! and feet! They were webbed! It was actually pretty awesome she had to admit, but freezing too. It was easy to ignore however as she looked around the lake. Desiree felt the gills on her face, she was breathing water, like a fish! She didn't feel scared anymore, but held onto her wand anyway. Noticing the other students and the Professors a little ways off, she quickly swam towards them. |
SPLASH! First thing Beezus knew she was eating something slimy and running then jumping into the lake and feeling strange things occurring inside her body. Now, she was completely underwater, her eyesight a bit blurry but when she blinked, it had become clearer than ever and as she looked at her hands and feet, it was became webbed. GILLYWEED ROCKS! She swam closer to where the two Professors were, it won't be good if she'd be lost and face a grindylow. She wasn't sure she's even remember the spell to use! |
Blink. Blink. Blink It took Kennedy a bit of time to adjust to the water temperature and to the fact that he wasn't going to actually drown. He waved his hand in front of his face and widely grinned. This. Was. AWESOME. He kept waving his hand, but stopped once he took in his surroundings. It was like if they were in another world. It was incredible. He just had one thing to say; the Wizard world was COOL. |
Taking the near-choking as a hint to take the final leap, Gideon bent down and dove beneath the water's surface once he was far enough off shore. It was probably a good thing he was used to the temperatures of the area having lived here all his life for the water was certainly frigid. Brrrrrr... Adjusting to the cold as the final changes took place, the boy looked around and spotted the professors swimming on ahead and kicked off a few times to start in the direction they were going. Certainly not used to the fish characteristics he now possessed, he nearly over-compensated before getting a better feel of his movements and merely swimming with more graceful moves and deeper breathing. |
*SLASH!* Sky had decided to cannonball into the lake. But yikes, it was cold. Brrr! She looked down at her hands and feet, and saw that yes, they were webbed. Making sure she still had her wand in hand and keeping an eye out for grindylows, Sky started to follow the rest of the class to wherever they were going. |
Jumping into the lake she could only thing one thing. Cold. Cold. Cold. COLD. Jezzabelle watched her hands and feet become webbed and she swam down deep following the lead of her Professors. She found it was easier to relax now that she could think straight amd that after a while the cold was nothing to her because she was numb. |
Ooh! Ira shivered. It was so cold down here. Couldn't the water be charmed to make it a little more comfortably warm? But not wanting to get lost or be alone, she swam fast, revelling in her new-found ability to swim fast. It also seemed that her swimming had become more graceful and smooth than before. So this was the effect of gillyweed. However slimy it tasted, this was awesome to say the least! Keeping an eye out for grindylows, shje swam alongside the rest of the students. |
Freeman was pretty sure he was going to die of hypothermia. In his mind, he knew that students didn't "usually" die during lessons but he wasn't about to bet his life on it. Taking the gillyweed was like swallowing a live octopus--one that was trying to climb back out. He'd first thought he was going to drown, but now he had gills, so it was clearly going to be hypothermia. Freeman twitched his way over to the group of amphibious students. He wondered if it was possible to communicate, since you couldn't breathe through your mouth. Freeman opened his lips into a large 'O' and gestured at the nearest student. "Phbbbbbbtttttttgggggggphhbbbb!" Translation: Does anyone know how to treat hypothermic shock? |
Sophie wasn't just scared now... she was scared AND cold. Not nice. Not nice at all. She was terrified about anything that was underwater and felt she could freak out very easily any minute now. She was trying her best to stay calm though. She liked magical creatures and hoped this lesson would be worth it. When the webs and whatnot were exactly the way they were supposed to be, Sophie started swimming behind the professors. She wouldn't dare to stay far away from them. |
Splash. Amelia dived under and immediately wished that she could go back up. It was so cold in the lake, she was sure she was going to be sick after this. She had no idea why this was supposedly a good idea. But since she'd already ate the Gillyweed she really had no choice but to follow the professors further into the lake. She really should have thought better of attending this lesson. |
Kurumi's vision cleared the moment the lake's waters filled her...erm..gills. She felt that she now knew how a goldfish felt whenever it was taken from its bowl when it needed to be cleaned. Kurumi kicked her legs and allowed her arms to float freely, simply enjoying the feeling of being able to breathe underwater and trying her best to ignore just how FREEZING it was. Seeing the two professors up ahead, Kurumi began to dolphin kick towards them when she was suddenly reminded of Lola. She had spoken with the girl once about their ambitions of becoming a mermaid and well, now, it seemed like that dream was sort of becoming a reality. Lola would have loved this. |
Lewis had just stood before the lake for a while, waiting for the gillyweed to get into his system and finish the transformation. Only he wasn't quite sure when that would be. He had watched when the skin between his fingers had become webbed with great interest. It was only when it had started to become quite hard to breathe that he realized that having gills usually implied that he was now able to breathe underwater. And ONLY underwater. With a quite ungraceful dive into the water, Lewis took a deep breath? under water through his gills. That felt...pretty amazing to be honest. He made a few strokes with his arms, loving the feeling the water felt against his body. Yes it was cold but still, this was pretty cool. Realizing that he was probably supposed to join the professors and the small group of students who had gone in before him, Lewis quickly swam over to them, not quite able to hide the grin on his face. The Giant Squid would protect them. Yes, they were going to be fine! Seeing Kurumi not too far away, Lewis moved over to where she was and just sort of floated next to her, waiting for this whole thing to start, or for further instructions or something. |
As soon as the effect of the gillyweed started to kick in, Gwendolyn approached the lake. Feeling the surface of the water, she tried to encourage herself. So it’s not soooo cold- you can do it…,she told herself, but as soon as she dived in, the girl felt the need to get back up. This is so COLD! You have to be mad to hold a lesson here! Apart from the cold water, the hideous swimsuit, the gillyweed, the creatures in the lake – so, apart from may things- it really wasn’t so bad. The view is incredible, I must say!, Gwen though and scanned the place. Then, remembering this was a class and not a vacation in the lake, the third year decided to follow the students that were already moving- or, better said- swimming. Where are we all going, anyway?, the Ravenclaw asked herself while making sure she had her wand at the ready. |
Harvey jumped into the lake after the others.. quickly feeling the effects of the cold water around his body.. but he just couldnt stop staring at his feet and hands which now had webbing on them.. he then quickly followed everyone else and the professors with his wand at the ready.. He wondered what they were going to be doing here besides shooting spells at the Grindylows with the new spell they had learnt.. he now knew how it felt to have that spell shot at you.. wow.. come to think of it.. that was the first time that he had ever been shot with a spell.. and he had to shoot Mins.. well he wont be doing that to her every again.. anyways he continued to follow everyone wondering where they were going. |
SPLASH! Louisa, the girl that loved the ground and gravity way too much, found herself smiling at the feeling of the herself IN the water. Completely. She found her limbs moving smoothly and very skillfully in the water. But that wasn't all. She could breathe! Right in there! And she could open her eyes without a sting! With a pleased and rather proud smile, Louisa swam after the professors and her classmates. She had no idea where they were heading but she didn't care at the moment, her eyes were scanning the intimidating underwater in amazement. |
