| | |  Charms Introduction & Gripping Charm
The charms classroom was clean and bright and ready for the first lesson of the year and Professor Schirmer was waiting at the front of the class for the students to arrive.
Was she in a good mood? Well she was ALMOST smiling, at least.
The desks are set up in the usual way, no funny business today. Quote: ooc: sorry for the time conversion confusion O_O I do not know how I got it so messed up, I'm totally usually an expert. I blame posting the notice before I was awake.
As usual, please read the charms code of conduct before playing.
Don't worry if you can't join in from the beginning, this lesson will last through the weekend and this first post will be updated as the lesson progresses.
Revision for this lesson cam be found here Questions so far: What should firsties know about charms? What do we know about incantations? How do we make a spell and its effects cease? Why do you think we will want to use Finite and NOT Finite Incantatem as the counterspell today? What do you know about Gripping Charms and what do you think they'd be useful for? The gripping charm you will learn today has the incantation 'Prehenso'. Can anyone guess how the meaning of this incantation relates to its purpose? Can you think of any related English words?

The tingling sensation on his left hand become stronger. He was itching to cast the Finite to his hand but Professor Schirmer said that they still need to test it against the wood. The young badger put his wand down and touch his desk with both his hands. He could feel the different between his two hands. Messer was easily move his right hand but when he was about to move his right hand it feel like his hand was glued to the table. That mean the charm worked, right?

Nate was trying to get the spell said correctly. "Pre-hen-so. Prehen-so. Pre-henso. Prehenso. Yes that sounds correct. Fin-ite no that isn't right. Finite. Now that sounds good. Now I have to practice the wadn movement."
Nate took out his wand and did a twist and tap. Motion he did that again.

He did that until he could get it right. Now it was time to put it all together.
Nate jotted down the notes

After he wrote down his notes he pointed his wand at his hand and said "Prehenso." Nate was getting so excited since this is the first spell he is learning.

Okay. He thought that was enough test. He picked up his wand again and pointed it to his left hand. "Finite!" He tried to retrieved his left hand from the desk but its still glued to it. Maybe the spell didn't work. "Finite!" this time the young badger feel that the tingling sensation on his left hand already gone. He tried to move his left hand again from the desk, this time he can move his hand easily.

Nate after checking off what he did he touched the desk and a tingling sensation went through his hand. "Whoa. This is so cool." Nate said in a whisper to himself. Nate moved his hand back and forth. On the hand he casted the spell on (his left) it felt rougher then normal. "Whoa that's even cooler."

The girl flexed her fingers. For whatever reason, she didn't believe Schirmer when she said it would tingle. But it DID. Schirmer didn't lie. Also surprising to the Sixth year. Why is uncertain.

Selina did not like the whole Hulk grip effect that Prehenso had on her left hand. In many ways it was a fascinating little experiment but Selina was not very comfortable with casting magic on herself. She felt like the only people equipt to do that to her were healers and the nurse. Everyone else could keep their wands to themselves. So Selina put down her quill where she had taken notes on the sensation and then pointed her wand at her left hand, "Finite!" There. All better.

Right. So when her hand felt...well, not NORMAL, but when she was used to the tingling and it didn't feel totally ODD anymore, Ellie ran her left hand along the desk. Which was also an odd thing to do, was it not? To PET a desk?
But this was strictly for Charms purposes, of course. And Ellie would always, usually, make an exception for her favorite class.
She really didn't need to compare. She knew what a desk should feel like compared to how it felt to her hand. She also knew what a regular ball felt like compared to a Quaffle. Still, she set her wand on her desk in a way that it wouldn't roll off, and stroked its surface with her right hand.

Because hugs were cool. And they made people feel better. Just like chocolate. And again, it wasn't edible. Unless you ate the person you were hugging, then that would be a whole different story.

Clearly, it had worked, because her right hand slid more easily across the desk. It was....weird that she had this half spider-y grip.
However, Ellie need not have a super grip hand at the moment. So she picked up her wand again and aimed at her left palm, "Finite."
All better.
Now what were they doing OUTSIDE? Ellie wanted to know. Maybe...maybe...she HOPED...they were charming their own Quaffles and playing Quidditch. Can they gooooooo yet?

Victoria felt a slight tinkling in her left hand. She kind of enjoyed it a bit. But after a while it started to grow, which now starts to irritate Victoria, who cannot stand tickling AT ALL. There’s the good thing though, her left hand is kind of sticking to the surface of the desk, and that’s the way Victoria wanted it to be.
Hoping that this experiment is enough for now, Victoria picked up her wand again with her right hand, ready for the next step of the instruction.

Okay. So that spell wasn't really working for her. Indiana frowned, watching her wand. Would you pleae work? Indy really did want to be able to do this spell. The little second year sighed, before collecting her thoughts. She could do this. She was good at spells. Indy smiled, pointing her wand at her hand. "Prehenso" She tried to say it with as much confidence as she could, because she was pretty sure that she'd be able to manage the spell, if she was a bit more confident. Ooh. Her hand was feeling a bit more tingly now. She mused with a smile, feeling like the spell had worked. Well that was good. She placed her hand down on the wood, sliding it a long a little. Well. She could feel the difference. She understand what they were talking now. She mused, placing her wand down ono the table, before putting her other hand down. Interesting. Definetly a difference. She liked that.

Twisting and tapping his wand he cast "Prehenso" before putting his hand on his desk, feeling the desk with the charm as well as without it on the other hand. The difference was really awesome! He had no idea the gripping charm could work so well. Looking around at the others, he went back to practicing the charm.

Yaay. Indy was SO glad that she had finally done the spell. It made her feel pretty happy. And seeing the difference between her hands now, was pretty cool. She giggled a little, as she moved her hands along the wood of her desk. It did feel really weird. Hmm. The feeling was a little weird, and she didn't really like the tingling feeling either. Gripping charms were a little weird obviously. Indy mused, keeping her hands still on the desk. It felt better when she wasn't moving them. But she was kind of done with this now. She got what the Professor wanted them to do, and maybe she could have a bit of a practice later. Okay. Now to just make the spell finish. "Finite." She smiled, pointing her wand at her hand. The tingling sensation stopped. Perfect.

Hm. That was interesting.
Arya's attention had fully returned to her hand when chocolate was pulled out, intent on practicing the spell a bit more when the woman spoke to the class and had the prefect's attention again.
She gave her wand twirl, rose from her seat and went out to see the gaaaame they would be playing.
