The months flied by in gush of leaves and when Edvard was prepared and ready to hold his first lesson of the term they were entering October. The leaves had taken on a fuller red or brown and yellow colour as the storms started to pick up and the first snow was hanging in the air. Edvard couldn’t help that he had been a bit preoccupied up till now with fixing the observatory and hosting his challenge.
Clad in magnificent space coloured robes he took up his place at the front in his oak desk with the evening Prophet stuck under his nose as per usual at the start of a lesson. It was Edvards way of getting into teaching mode. The desks are arranged in a typical classroom fashion today with neat rows and parchments on each desk. Make use of the parchment. On the black Professor Roslund has written in his curvy distinctive hand writing.
Quote:
Welcome to another term of Astronomy!!!
Please take a moment and write your name, house and year on the parchments and they will magically turn into name plates.
Opening the Prophet on the first page Edvard engaged himself in the latest news after the cult of Walpurgis throw down, apparently there had been a ball at the Ministry.
Occ:Make yourselves comfortable. We'll officially start in a few hours. Keep the chit-chat to a minimum. Class has started! Acquaint yourself with the Rules, if you haven't done so already. All Astronomy classes are set at night after dinner.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Eh? Not a place to start a business? On the contrary! it was a PERFECT place to sell! The classroom was filled with teenagers and one of them even wanted to buy a pair for real cough Lewis cough. So naturally, the Slytherin wanted to say he was wrong but then noticed the look the Professor gave him.
He had never seen that look before and Daichi didn't like it. Thinking about Slytherin's house points he quickly nodded his head. "I-i'm sorry , Professor" He didn't want him to dislike him! He actually liked the man!

Sitting back in his chair after giving out the slippers for free, Daichi listened to the question but he was a little too flustered that the Professor had just gotten some backbone that he didn't really heard it. So he decided to wait this question out.

The slippers and robe were keeping Keefer nice and toasty. Why had no one ever thought of this before?
Why did they study it? He raised both hands. "Because it's cool, of course!" Seriously, all those massive distances and huge planets were mind-blowing.
Maybe he was looking for a bit more than that, though, so Keefer continued. "And also because it gives us insight into how our universe works. We can get clues to the past and possibly unlock the future."

Vlimia shuffled her feet in the ridiculous yet cozy duck slippers. At least the special Astronomy cloak was cool. Ooh! First question! What did she know about Astronomy? She raised her hand hesitantly. "Umm, there are eight planets in our solar system; the four inner planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars, and the four outer planets are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. There are also some dwarf planets in the solar system, the most well-known ones being Pluto, Eris and Ceres." Vlimia said, once she was chosen. That was just about all she knew, except that most of the planets were named after Roman gods, if not all of them. She didn't exactly know what all the gods symbolized, though. Venus was beauty and love, Mars was war or something, Neptune was the sea or water and Mercury was travel. These were pretty well named, in her opinion. Venus was a pretty planet, Mars was red like blood and anger, Neptune was blue like the sea (duh!) and Mercury travelled really fast across the sky.

Ella looked down at her robes and slippers and smiled, they were quite comfy and perfect for the chilly October evening. She raised her hand and scrunched up her face, thinking about what she knew of astronomy. "Professor, astronomy is the study of the stars right? I mean you use a telescope to locate and study different things in the night sky..." Ella wasn't sure if this was correct but that's what she associated with astronomy.
Pointing at his own robes he continued "Many of you are probably like Tayla wondering why I've given you special astronomer robes. Daisy huddled in her robes and slippers, grinning at the fact her feet were nice and warm. She hadn't been to all of the previous astronomy lessons in her time at Hogwarts, but she could sure have a shot at the question, after all, there wasn't anything to lose, and she could get some house points. 'Because it's important,' she said, raising her hand, 'so we can look up at the stars and understand, not just see. Plus it's fairly awesome to have a lesson at night time, and it also helps us with other subjects, like divination.'

Kimalia having sat quietly, with the parchment by her side with the required entry she raised her hand to answer the question, "Astronomy is important, as the stars above us detail our past and help guide others since some may use the stars to help navigate their way around."
"Good evening Aurora. Luna is doing well. Last I saw her she was curled up in front of the fire place sleeping happily." Professor Roslund greeted. Aurora had helped him on the platform until Althea had arrived to aid him.
"Good to hear." said Aurora and then the lesson started and she was scribbling down notes as fast as she could think. Astronomy confused her greatly... though she was fairly sure she knew that it was the study of stars...
Sophie was just standing there, smirking and feeling cool with her new Astronomy robes. She didn't know a lot of things about Astronomy, but it was worth a try. She raised her hand. "Professor, I think Astronomy is when we study stars and constellations and..." she stopped to think for a second "planets!" Yeah, that was about all she knew. She did like looking at the sky at night, so she thought she would enjoy these lessons a lot!
Ira took the astronomy special robes and the soft, fluffy footwear from Daichi. "Thanks Daichi!" she said to him. That felt.. good?! Yes it felt nice, but at the same time, Ira found it weird that they were getting first the horrible looking swimsuits in CoMC class and now these robes in Astronomy class? Still, it felt kind of nice to wear them! So she followed suit, and wore the robes. How come they were the right size for her? That was certainly a good sign!
Then Ira listened as Professor Roslund started with the lesson. Oh? So theses robes and slippers were special treats for all of them.. okay..
And then started the common pattern classes! Learning the basics of astronomy. Oh she knew this! Ira raised her hand up and answered, "Well, Professor Roslund, last year, we had been taught about how the lunar changes affect the plant growth cycle.. " or something like that! Ira added to her answer, "Also, it is said that future can be predicted based on the movement of the stars and planets in the sky. So astronomy helps in that."
Kennedy was happy with these robe and slipper arrangements, now, hopefully he wouldn't fall asleep from all this comfy-ness. Of course he wouldn't, he enjoyed Astronomy too much to ever sleep during a lesson.
He snuggled the robe to him and thought about the question. He learned so much last term that he didn't know what else he could learn. Perhaps there was MORE. This thought, gave him a chill of excitement, so with a small grin on his lips he raised his hand. "It's to gain knowledge of what surrounds the Earth and how it affects our planet in a daily basis," he said. "For example, how much the moon influences plants, humans and other things on Earth." That was just one example, but babbling about other things would probably take a lot of time to describe, so he stopped.
Raising her hand, Louisa answered, "We need to study Astronomy, sir, because of the absolute mutual cycle of affection in the universe." A fancy way to say everything affected everything. "Planets, stars, comets and everything else outside our planet has an effect, even if it was a small one, on us and our magic in particular."
... oh and, "However, Astronomy has nothing to do with duck feet." Stressing on the last two words as she shot a pointed look at Daichi who was basically the reason they were wearing those silly slippers.
Kurumi giggled and scooted a bit as August joined her. "N'aw, I thought today we'd try to discover a new planet or other intelligent life in the universe." Dream big or go home, right?
All joking aside though, Kurumi had really enjoyed stargazing with August. They should go back and do it again sometime - even if she knew that they wouldn't get so lucky a second time.
"Oh of course, comets were just our start." He chuckled as he reached into his side bag pulling out his textbook and parchment for notes. He was definately more interested in the subject this term after the excitment of the other night.
Team Goldberry for the win!

After smiling brightly to Professor Roslund again August looked at the new robes with a small smile. They were a bit flashy for him but he would gladly accept the gift and he took off his school robes, then donned the new ones.
They were warm. "Thanks Professor, these are nice." After he had put on the robes he quickly removed his shoes and received the new slippers from the student passing them out. They were going to be cumpfy now weren't they?
Now for the first question. August went back and sat at his desk next to the female Gryffindor Prefect and then raised his hand. "Professor Roslund, I think that it's important for us to study Astronomy because its not just important that we know about our own planet and how things work here but for us to understand the Universe as best we can and to see how things out there can effect us."

"Well, if the moon has cycles maybe the cycles can determine when to pick up a certain ingredient for a potion, because the ingredient would be ready to be used during the time of the cycle. You wouldn't want to have a certain ingredient an put it into a potion when it's not ready for use. That could cause a disaster, sort of." Adam raised his hand.
He then looked at the robe he was wearing. Hmm, it was class rules but it was a different look of robe.

Giving the Professor a warm smile back, Eva thought about the question a bit more deeply then other questions. She had never studied Astronomy. The only thing she did related to the subject was sometimes see the stars at night. But Eva did know stuff about it but she wasn't exactly sure it was true or not. Raising her hand like some others in the interesting class, she said Well, I've never studied Astronomy but I do know a bit. You study astronomy for a reason. Astronomy is a natuaral science with the study of celestial things such as planets, stars and comets and others. We also study it because it can cause effects for us here on earth such as maybe plantation." As she puffed a bit at the end she normally didn't say those types of stuff as it was normally stuck in her brain and didn't come out.

Zhenya had a quick think about Astronomy. The subject meant so many different things to her, and for her - there were many things she had learned. But the main thing was, she though, raising her hand "Professor, among many reasons for learning about Astronomy, they can mostly be categorised under the heading Celestial Body. We study planets, stars and the moon. Well, that was what we studied last year - I'm not sure about previous years. And also in that, we looked at how moon phases affected our moods and emotions as well as our magic, plus our incredible joint Herbostronomy class taught us how the moon influences what goes on in the ground," she said.

"Aye professor I have," Gideon answered with a nod as the professor refered to their conversation in his office earlier in the month. It had certainly been an eyeful that was better then anything even the smaller charmed telescopes or the one at home captured. "And it seemed to be in complete working order," he added remembering the worry the older man had had and not sure if he had gotten to check it out fully himself.
When Professor Rosland began class, he looked to where he had been pointing to showing the robes. That's a new idea, he mused to himself as he got up to grab a robe that would fit him, slipping it on over his uniform. He forgoed the slippers hoping they werent madatory before turning his attention back to the man as he went on with the first question of the lesson. Gideon himself mused over an answer though remained quiet for now, simply listening to what his classmates gave curious, especially if a certain first year decided to speak up.

Amelia thought that she looked a little strange in her Astronomy robes and slippers, but she was just going along with it. In all honesty it was still better than the DADA lesson where they had to use different yoga positions.
She raised her hand now to try to answer the question. "Maybe we learn about Astronomy because we aren't the only celestial body in the galaxy. And it's good to know about the other planets/moons/stars etc around us. AND how they impact us here on earth." She also had to admit that she liked stargazing because everything looked so pretty up there.

Lily looked up from her desk once the professor began to speak. What do us, first years, know about astronomy. Lily knew the answer to this one so she raised her hand before answering, "Astronomy is the study of the night sky-the stars, the planets, various phenomena that appear in the sky." For once Lily actually liked her answer, and hoped that the professor would agree. He seemed like a nice person, after all, he did give them new robes and duck slippers.
Glenn felt very comfy in her Astronomy robes and duck slippers, they were much warmer than wearing their normal robes and they kept out the cold October breeze. She felt like she should be tired, but she wasn't, she usually spent until this time reading or working on her homework in the common room anyway.
She thought hard about the professors question,"Professor, do we study Astronomy because of the stories of the constellations and how the stars have helped us before we had compasses, we could look at particular stars and they would always point in a certain direction?"
Free robes? Selina was all for that idea and the forth year knew how late astronomy usually ran so it was probably wise to throw the slippers in. She took a set and threw the robe and slippers on. This was a much warmer set than their usual Mary Janes and thin black robes. Once they were on she settled her eyes back onto Roslund who posed his first question. Selina rose her hand, "Professor aren't there instances when the moon pattern affects magic? We learn about astronomy to further expand our knowledge on our magic.". Maybe...

Minerva put up her hand. "Professor we learn astronomy to know the universe around us. To know the planets and stars that make up are universe. In a wizard sense we learned last term that Astronomy can affect our moods and magic. We also learned how Astronomy can affect plants as well."

"The planets have different kinds of magic, and they assist wizards when we make potions and certain spells" The waning and waxing moons would be an example, but Olivia chose not to get carried away.
The others seemed to be talking about things other then astrology, so Olivia guessed the class wasnt like the others. But just incase, Olivia said something about astrology anyway! "And the position of the plantes also has an effect on our birth dates"

"Good evening Elise! My summer was quite splendid. How was yours?" Professor Roslund asked curiously. Watching the young Ravenclaw put on the robes he saw that she almost disappeared in them. Making sure he didn’t laugh he called out to the second year "Elise do you want me to make the robes a smaller size?"
"Good evening Zack. Don’t forget to fetch a robe before we begin." He greeted the young lion boy who was the only one so far who hadn’t given him a polite greeting.
