Arithmancy One: Daily Vibes & More About Personal Year, Month, Day Numbers
After what seemed like months had passed, Josephina was finally ready to hold her first lesson of the term. Of course the leaves were only just starting to change color, so it wasn't as if term was truly that far in, but even so. It wasn't her fault that she had several issues interrupting her train of thought. Pulling her thick brown hair back into a fast ponytail, she went to stand by the door with a parchment and quill, as she waited for the students to come.
The desks were arranged in a typical classroom fashion today - neat rows, with chairs that were definitely far more comfortable than they appeared.
Have a seat, the lesson will begin shortly.

Gideon looked up at Professor Hadley as she came by wondering what was wrong. "Oh...nothing Professor," he answered realizing she might have seen him frown in response to the supposed meaning of his results. "I just wasn't sure of the meaning," he added with a slight shrug assuring her it was really not a problem. It seemed to be fine and she said nothing the second time around after the later calculation.
Finished for now, the fifth year let his mind wander a little until they moved on, the boy listening to Professor Hadley as she talked about the next set of numbers. Gideon looked over what they were, deciding to read through the calculations given by their textbook while they took abreak and finally trying his hand at them with his own information.

In terms of emphasis, the Personal Year is the most significant number, but the Personal Month Numbers have value too. Each and every Personal Month Number has its own special energy, which infuses that month of the year with its unique opportunities and potential." Glenn read, "So we could work this out for every month?"
Glenn dipped her quill into Beezus' ink and started her calculation.

Glenn read over the definition of her Personal Month Number, "I guess that's talking about Homework then," She sighed and looked over to see how Beezus was doing with her work.
Oh? No mistakes? Heh. Maybe she was getting the hang of that subject? Beezus shook her head slightly in dismissal of the thought. She would never be friends with number. It was just impossible. When she heard Glenn tell her that she'll buy her a butterbeer if there were errors in her work, she faced the young badger and grinned. "Butterbeer? Hmmm.. Can I just request ice cream?" she pouted jokingly.
As Glenn read the description of her Personality Year Number, she listened while she also started solving for her Personality Month Number. "Romantic relationships eh?" What was that? A joke? She did not even have any crush, for Merlin's sake! But what got her thoughts hanging was the next statement her new friend said. She'll be needed by her family? Whatever will happen in which her family would need her? Her chest pounded for a moment before she regained control of herself. Beezus shrugged. "I guess so." she told Glenn.

It was a good thing Professor Hadley was allowing them to review independently as well as with a partner because it seemed all those who had wanted partners had already been snatched up, leaving Vashti to work on her own. Which was okay with her. At least it meant she could go ahead and look over the Personal Day/Month/Year Numbers without waiting to find a person willing to partner with her.
She flipped through the textbook pages until she found the correct page. She skimmed it quickly to refresh herself on how to do them then set to work calculating them.

If ice cream wasn't more expensive than butterbeer? "Hmmm..vanilla ice cream ain't that expensive Glenn.." she told the girl. That was, if she'd buy a small cup. But in Beezus' case, even ten small cups just weren't enough. She sighed. Why was she too obsessed with ice cream anyway?
When she saw her partner starting on solving for her Personal Day Number, she also flicked her textbook into the next page. "Your Personal Day Number is found by adding the number of the calendar day to the number of your Personal Month." Beezus read. So, her Personal Month Number was 7 and the date today was..She quickly turned to Glenn as the badger told her about also having 7 as her Personal Day Number. "Why..the number seven seems to be focused in relaxation. Don't you think?" And without allowing her to answer yet, Beatrice continued, "Err--what's the date today again?" Really, she ought and try remembering those important kind of things.

Glenn read over her new addition to her journal and nodded, yes, she guessed it made more sense than her last one. Perhaps the things she related to with number five were just a coincident. Now that she thought hard about it, advertising didn't really appeal to her. Education and Business, that was cool! And Glenn guessed she was pretty organised, with her journal and all.
With what the Professor had said about the Y maybe not counting as a vowel in her name, Glenn decided to make another calculation. She dipped her quill in some ink and started below her old calculation.
No, no, no! That was not correct. "Uh-Professor? I tried taking away the Y and I came up with this?" Glenn frowned down at her journal, that couldn't be correct! She wasn't like that! "I think the Y counts, because I am NOT like that at all."
At the next instruction, Glenn looked around the room searching for a partner. She'd go with Sophie, but she seemed to be making these minor mistakes all the time. It would be cool to work with an older student, they'd know every to know about Arithmancy.
Figuring she may as well check on the last few corrections people made to their soul urge or life path numbers, Josephina heard one girl complaining about how her new number didn't seem to fit her at all. Scouring her paper, she shook her head. "That's because that's not your soul urge number either..." she pointed toward an extra 5 that had appeared from her first name. "See the extra five there."

Seeing a hand go up, Josephina scurried toward the desk of a young claw, and looked over her parchment. The other girl had an extra five and apparently, Fina now figured out where it came from. For this one, was missing a five. "Um... your soul urge number... you missed a digit from your middle name. And your life path number, well, you miscalculated your year... so the number is slightly off."

"I hope I did all these correctly," Tayla thought and then raised her hand, wondering how to correctly relate all the numbers. "Professor, is there a proper way to interpret the meanings of these numbers together?"
Hearing a question about interpreting the meanings, Fina now addressed the students as a whole, pleased that many have started working it out. "Technically. The personal year number has themes which focus your energies for the year. Within that year though, your personal month number will give insights as to the special opportunities and potential. And within the month, are your personal day numbers, which are significant, in particular when the number is the same as your soul urge or life path." Which is why they calculated those numbers in the beginning.

As with next month, in November, it'll be a different personal month number. You see, what you've discovered is that you're at the start of your nine year cycle." Good time and all, considering she just began her first year of Hogwarts. "Our lives operate repeatedly on nine-year cycles, with every year having a number and each number has a meaning. This is the theme for that year, which is also your Personal Year number. The same thing happens monthly, and even daily. And after nine years, you will have finished a cycle, which signifies a certain lesson to have been learned in that time."

Hey Alyssa check this out. Our year, month an day numbers have a pattern to them. He showed her scanning his and her parchment with his index finger. See mine shows 5-6-5 and yours is plus one from mine see. He pressed his fingers next to each of her numbers that showed 6-7-6. I doubt it has any meaning itself, I just think that's pretty cool.

Oakey raised his hand to answer Professor Hadley's next question. Um Professor, to find your Personal Month number you need to add your Personal Year Number to the current month. He looked down at his parchment for a moment For example my Personal Year Number is 5 so you need to add that to The Number month October is which is 10 He paused for a second, then went on. But you need to break down 10 into 1 +0 to get one of the 9 personal month numbers.

Keefer raised both hands. "Professor, I think I'll take a stab at the Personal Year Number. The formula is given by Personal Year Number = month of birth + day of birth + current calendar year. Let me give my calculation as an example. By birthday is October 27, 2060. So my month is 10, my day is 27, and the current calendar year is 2076." That was a tricky part. "So I'd have 10 + 27 + 2076. You have to reduce each part individually first. Then 10 is 1 + 0 = 1; 27 is 2 + 7 = 9; and 2076 is 2 + 7 + 6, which gives 15."
He paused briefly to let this settle in. "You further reduce that 15 to 1 + 5 = 6. In total, I'm adding 1 + 9 + 6. That gives me 16, which reduces to 1 + 6 = 7. After that you look up the meaning for seven in the textbook."
Wow, explaining these things is way harder than he thought. Mad props to Hadley.
But seriously, they should just ask Hadley about those weird calculation methods while she was already paying attention to them. "Professor, Treyen and I are a bit confused on the Personal Year Number. We both used two different methods that yielded the same answer. Basically, I did it the reduce-the-components-first method and got 7. But, then I tried adding the components together first and then reducing. I also got 7. Treyen had the same thing happened. Will it work both ways for everyone?"

Discuss independently or quietly with a partner? Well. A partner it is then. Arithmancy was a difficult subject and discussing it rather than just sinking in its depth alone would be better. Scooting her chair toward the Gryffindor sitting next to her, Louisa started ahead without even taking his permission. "So.. we have to calculate personal year number, then personal month number and lastly finding out our personal day number." She scribbled down those steps on her parchment.

Really, she ought and try remembering those important kind of things.
Glenn placed her quill down, done with her work for the present time. "Well let's just hope your work is correct so that I don't have to spend any money on you at all." She smiled cheekily
Glenn listened to what Beezus had to say, Merlin's Beard! That was funny, both getting the same number, "Yeah, It seems to be focused on relaxation and meditation"She said, glancing at her textbook and the multiple times it is mentioned in it. She answered Beezus' next question, "It's the 17th, 17th of October."

Glenn raised her hand, "You find your Personal Day Number by adding the reduced current day, which is the 17th, and whatever number that you got when you worked out your Personal Month Number. So, using mine as an example. You would split the number 17 into 1 and 7 and add them together to create 8, then add your Personal Month Number to that mine being 8. The answer would be 16 but it needs to be a single digit, so I would split that into 1 and 6 and add the 1 and 6 together to create 7." She gushed, explaining it just a little bit more confusingly than she had intended.

Oh good. She didn't have to pull teeth this time for them to pick different ones to explain. Nodding at each of them of volunteered an explanation, she said simply, "Couldn't have said it better myself."
"Anyway, as I mentioned, we're going to be playing a miniature version of tag. But as this classroom is rather small, I'd like to first of all, push all the desks to the side of the room. The only things you need to keep in mind for this game are your personal year and month number, as you may need them to calculate a new personal day number."

* If you DO get tagged by a different number, then before you can "become that number", you have to find a day in October 2076 that would give you that number as a Personal Day Number.
The Rules:
* Don't God-Mod. If someone tags you, don't pretend like you were touching the desk.
* On the same token, don't be a desk hog either. You have to be out in the open. I'm trusting you guys to be fair to yourselves and to your classmates. And to have FUN with this.
* You have two choices for how to be identified by your Personal Day number. First of all, you can wear it as your avatar. OR you can include it at the bottom of the post. If you don't do either, then I'll assume you're not playing and you won't get participation credit for this activity.
Most importantly, have fun. And of course, if you have questions about the game, you're welcome to PM me them.
The game will most likely run until sometime on Sunday, January 22nd. But it all depends on YOU guys and your participation. I may cut it shorter or extend it.

Alyssa listened as the other students gave their answers. Since there were only 3 questions to answer, and some students had already given answers to all of the 3, Alyssa decided that even though the answers would more or less sound the same, Alyssa decided to still venture her own answer. So she raised her hand and said, "Professor some of the students have already explained how we go about calculating to get our Personal Month number. Well, I found my Personal Day number by adding the today's date which is the 17th to my personal month number which is 7.
Using the number reduction process, I first reduced today's date from the number 17 to 8, by adding 1 with 7. Then I added 8 with my Personal Month number which is 7. That totalled up to 15. Then using the number reduction process, I added 1 with 5 and finally came up with a single digit of 6. That is my Personal Day Number." Alyssa hoped that she made sense but more importantly, that she was correct.
Right after Alyssa gave her answer, Alyssa heard that they were going to be playing a game. As Alyssa listened to the instructions, she started to smile. She loved the game of tag. She just had to remember that this was just a game, and that all this was meant to be fun. So she first hung on to the side of the desk designated safe for someone with a personal number of 6, before she bravely left her safe zone and entered the Free Zone

Ooh! That sounds like fun! It reminded her a bit of the capture the flag game. Glenn pushed her desk to the side of the room along with everyone else. She retied her hair to make sure that it wouldn't fall in her eyes. Older students may think that it was childish to play tag, but in Glenn's twelve-year-old state of mind, this was serious business.
She kept her hand on her desk, hesitant to be the first to be out in the open.

"Hehe.." was all she could say towards Glenn for the moment the badger had the chance to tell her what day it was, Professor Hadley had taken the attention of the class again. When she asked some of Beezus' classmates to explain how to find the Personal Year, Month and Day Number respectively, the eaglet immediately computed for her Personal Day Number.

Kurumi looked up as Professor Hadley explained what they were doing next. Tag? Kurumi cocked her head to the side, feeling a little confused at first, but she pushed her desk to the side of the room and kept her hand on it for a moment.
So, they were supposed to essentially turn everyone in the room into someone with the same Personal Day Number as them? Merlin, with numbers 1 through 9 available, this was going to be nothing but chaos.
Kurumi stepped only a few steps away from her desk and looked around the room. "Anyone else a 5?!" Because, you know, it WOULD make sense to team up. "If so, come over here!"

Oakey headed over towards Kurumi when she called out for anybody else who was a 5. Oakey had thought it strange that he'd team up with Kurumi in this game. She and him had competed against each other twice now, once during the capture the flag game and again in the duel they recently had.

Alyssa figured out Kurumi's idea was a good one, and so although it would mean copying an idea, it still make sense, so Alyssa slowly moved closer to her safe desk but not touching it and yelled out,"Is anyone a 6? If so, let's form a team"
