Default Arithmancy One: Daily Vibes & More About Personal Year, Month, Day Numbers

After what seemed like months had passed, Josephina was finally ready to hold her first lesson of the term. Of course the leaves were only just starting to change color, so it wasn't as if term was truly that far in, but even so. It wasn't her fault that she had several issues interrupting her train of thought. Pulling her thick brown hair back into a fast ponytail, she went to stand by the door with a parchment and quill, as she waited for the students to come.

The desks were arranged in a typical classroom fashion today - neat rows, with chairs that were definitely far more comfortable than they appeared.

Have a seat, the lesson will begin shortly.

ooc: Make yourselves comfortable. We'll officially start in a few hours. Keep the chit-chat to a minimum. Acquaint yourself with the rules, if you haven't done so already.
Class started. You're encouraged to participate if you didn't post coming in, but please PRETEND as though you've been here the whole time.

Lesson Progression
Brief review. First question.
Daily vibes. Backtrack a moment - what are Soul Urge and Life Path? How do we calculate them?
Explanations. Calculate your life path & soul urge numbers
Quietly reviewing & possibly calculating Personal Year, Month, Day Numbers
So? How do you find those numbers?

THE ACTIVITY! : FYI, as an example, if you're a seven, and you get tagged by a five, then you then have to find a day in October, given your personal month number and all, that would give you a five for your personal day number. Five would then become your new color/number.
Mini Discussion about above Activity and then we're done
Influences of the Soul Urge and Life Path on your Personal Day Number

Josephina contemplating tagging someone else, but mostly she was watching and observing to see if they were actually calculating a new day that would give them the 'tagged personal day number'. It seemed as if many had figured out a shortcut to calculating the personal day number and thus were mostly just enjoying themselves now. Which was good though; they had fun while also incorporating some Arithmancy into the game. See! Whoever said Arithmancy was all boring calculations was sadly mistaken.

A glance at her wristwatch though told her that the lesson was nearly up and so she gave a sharp whistle to grab their attentions.

"Alright then, before we go, let's have a small discussion about the game. You can just stand wherever you are or have a seat on the floor..."
whichever. This wasn't anything terribly formal where they needed to move the desks and chairs back for. "In calculating a new personal Day number, did you notice any sorts of patterns among the numbers?" Preferably something she may or may not have pointed out earlier in the lesson.

Messer was looking around for someone to tag too when suddenly someone tagged him from behind. He frowned. He should had been more careful. And now apparently he's an eight. "Hello, I'm Messer." he greeted the girl. Now, Messer need to find a day. Hmmm.."October 27th." he said.

Messer heard a whistle sound come from Professor Hadley. Was that mean the game was over? DARN! He went to sit on the floor because he's pretty tired from running and tagging. He didn't really notice any pattern among the numbers, so the first year just let the other students answering that question.

Ella took a seat on the floor, smiling happily. She had really enjoyed the game because it allowed her to practice as well as meet some new classmates. Ella raised her hand after hearing the question. "Well Professor, I noticed that there are multiple choices when trying to get to the same personal day number. For example, when I was trying to be an 8, I could use October 9th or October 27th." She put her hand down, not sure if that was what the Professor meant by pattern.

Yes, he had noticed the pattern, despite the fact that he had only been tagged twice. Both hands hit the air with practiced precision. "Professor Hadley, I think there are multiple days that will reduce down to the same Personal Day Number. I think every nine days will repeat the cycle over again of reducing to one, then two, and so on."

Because for him, October 1 would get him a 9, and then October 10 would be the same.

Sierra froze in place when she felt a slight poke on her back. She whirled around to face--some Puffer. She'd never seen him before. Ehh... "A seven," she said. "Alright..."

"Let's go with...October 7," she said.

9 + 7 = 16

...and just as she'd been tagged and figured out a new date, a sharp whistle sounded throughout the room. Dear MERLIN! Was it quite necessary to do that?! Sierra felt like glaring at Hadley, but of course she refrained.

...and then she wanted them to have a seat on the floor? Oh this just kept getting better and better. THE FLOOR! Like a bunch of animals! Or a house elf one...

Nevertheless, Sierra took a seat then raised her hand. "I did," she said. "The number I started with was nine, and each time I was tagged by a different number, all I had to do was match the date to the number I'd been given. For example, I just got tagged by a seven, so I chose October 7. Nine plus seven is sixteen, and then when you add one plus six, you come up with seven--the number I got changed to."

Of course she hadn't always gone the easy route. "Another way to do it is to find two numbers that add up to the number you're trying to reach. If I wanted to get to seven, I could choose a date like October 25, because two plus five is seven. So then I can just add nine to seven, come up with sixteen again, and add one plus six to get to seven," she explained.

Ira turned to see what the sharp whistle was all about. It looked like Professor Hadley had enough of the game and had decided to end it. Finally!

Ira wasn't too tired from the game,to say the truth. because the actual; case was, she was the one who got to tag others, but rarely got tagged herself! So nope, she didn't have had a lot of calculations to do!

Then came the questions. Pattern among the calculations? Were there? Other than the fact that they had multiple choices as some other students had already answered? Ira was too busy tagging and being tagged and calculating to notice any pattern! But one thing she knew and she decided to say it. She raised her hand up and answered, "Professor, I just know one thing.. that there are multiple dates for the same number. That is every number repeats itself after.. 8.. no, 9 days. So this is a pattern, right?"

It was over already? Why must fun things ended so fast? Still panting, Hades sat on the floor with his legs straight ahead of him. "It's like a cycle. The numbers repeat after... Nine days, was it?" he tried to confirm. It must've slipped through his mind while having too much fun.

Amelia pouted as the game was over, but still stood in the middle happily as she listened to Professor Hadley talk to them. She raised her hand as the question was asked about any patterns in the numbers. "Well, it's in a cycle of Nine, so it starts again after each nine numbers. I've also noticed that with the single digit dates, the Personal Day Number is the exact same. Like October 7th is a 7 Personal Day Number, and October 3rd is a 3 Personal Day Number. You can also get the Personal Day Number by adding each digit in the date up. For instance, October 27th would give you a Personal Day Number of 9, because 2 + 7 = 9."

Alyssa was glad that the game was finally over because that just meant that it was back to the lesson proper. She listened as the Professor asked her question, thought for awhile before raising her hand.

"Professor, there was definitely some kind of pattern. I guess it has to do with us using the Pythagorean Method of calculation, which has a series of 9 numbers. Because we originally derived our Personal Month Number using that method of calculation, any calendar day we use that adds up to our specific number in that table will give us our Personal Day Number.

Like for example since my Personal Day Number is 6, I could use the Calendar day 8th, 17th or 26th and I would still end up with a Personal number of 6. The pattern I see here, is that as long as the calendar day number for me added up to 8, I would always end up with a Personal Day Number of 6.
" Alyssa ended her answer, hoping that it made sense.

This is why Kurumi had given up Quidditch. She got distracted too easily. Really, the only sport she was able to focus for extended periods of time on was kendo and that was mostly due to her being trained in it ever since she could stand. Three older brothers and your home being part dojo would do that.

Which one of the dates giving Kurumi a 4 hadn't she used yet? "October...8"

At least, she thought she hadn't used that one yet.

Deciding that she had had enough running around and calculating, Kurumi made her way towards the desks when she spotted the same Hufflepuff from earlier that she had tagged. Couldn't hurt to tag her again, right? "Tag," she chirped before continuing her way towards the safe zone and leaning against it.

Hopefully this would all be ending soon. She was beginning to get tired.
Minerva laughed when Kurumi tagged her. "Ok I know what my day will be it will be the first. 1+3=4. " She knew she was being lazy with that calculation but she was getting a bit tired. She smiled and looked around for someone to tag.

She then heard Professor Hadley and stopped moving. Hmm she thought about the answer to the Professors question. Then she put her hand up. "Well professor since we put all numbers to single digits it is a constant repeating pattern from numbers 1-9."

Sophie sat down on the floor and raised her hand. "Well, since we only have up to 9 numbers, every other 9 days will be the same number we needed." that was pretty simple, wasn't it? Sophie wasn't sure if she had put it in a understandable way though. "I mean, my month number was 2, so if I got number four, for example, the day would be the 2nd, because 2 + 2 = 4." Obviously. "I could think of another day that, if I summed up the numbers, I'd get 2. Like 11th and 20th. Or I could just use the 9-day pattern I said before. 29th should work too, then."

She looked around. Did that make sense? Well, it did to Sophie, at least.

"Yes!" Josephina nodded at the first year. "There are indeed multiple days within a month that you'll get the same personal day number." Every nine days, to be precise. Which Ella semi-picked up given the fact that 27 and 9 were both divisible by 9.

And then when the Slytherin male said something similar about the nine-day cycles. Same thing as before. So she gave him a nod as well.

"Definitely," Fina nodded at the third year. "It's definitely related to the fact that Pythagorean number system uses the numbers one through nine!" It likely wouldn't be the same, after all, if they used the Chaldean method.

Nine-day pattern. Yes. Good, Sophie understood the pattern as well. Fina nodded at the first year before she addressed the whole class again.

"So we have our nine-day pattern with the personal day numbers. One other thing I also mentioned at the beginning of the lesson was that your personal day numbers would have a stronger influence on those days where your number is the same as your soul urge or life path number." She paused, glancing at each of their faces. "As stated in your textbooks, this is because you're adding what is a subtle influence to what is already a stronger influence in your lives. Did any of you come across your life path number or soul urge number in your personal day number for today? If so, then would you mind sharing what you think this means for you today?" If no one had that occur today than she'd just give an arbitrary example.

Ella shrugged as she had not come across either number in her personal day number for today. She raised her hand to let the professor know. "I didn't come across either of them in my personal day number for today, Professor." She then sat quietly, waiting for an example of what that might mean for a person.

Louisa furrowed her eyebrows at all the nerds students that answered that encrypted question. Well. She didn't have a clue of a pattern. All she knew was she was glad not to be flat dead on the floor after all the creeping and shrieking TAG she got from ickle students. Heh.

Listening to Hadley, again, who seemed to speak English again. Louisa's face brightened as she hopped over to her pushed-aside desk and grabbed the parchment that had her calculations on. "Professor, I think my soul urge number and personal day number are the same. Six." Looking down at the description of both, the girl walked closer to the woman, "My soul urge number says that I tend to protect, nurture, and love my family and home." Internal snort. Louisa then moved her eyes down, "And the day number suggests that it is a day to pay attention to work, family, or home."

WHAO!

With a very wide eyes, she looked up at Hadley rather surprised, "I think... I should send an owl home?" Louisa never corresponded with her family basically because they weren't than interested with her magic school but now that those numbers are so creepily matching... she was getting a bit worried.

Minerva thought she wasn't sure.. "Well professor I was trying to find calculations to add to seven a lot during the game. The team seven kept tagging me a lot and my soul and life path number was seven. Does that have any relationship?"

Sophie hadn't come across either of them either. So she just sat quietly, waiting for the others to answer, looking around as they spoke.

Had she come across a 7? It seemed that the 7 was both her Soul and Life number. She couldn't remember! Oops, she thought.

She raised her hand and said, "Sorry Professor, I don't remember if I came across a 7 or not, I was... having too much fun," she said. She was sorry she couldn't answer the question with something better.

Default Brain cells are fried here :dizzy:
There's some good in this world and it's worth fighting for| LOTR|Whovian|Sherlock Fan

Alyssa thought for a moment. That question really sounded complex and after that game her brain was starting to fade out, but she forced herself to think and come up with an answer that made sense to the Professor. So she raised her hand and answered.

"Professor, unfortunately, my Soul Urge and Life Path numbers weren't the same as my Personal Day number today. But, if my Personal Day number was the same as my Soul Urge Number which is 9, does that mean that for today, I should rely more on my intuition, and not allow my emotional needs and the need to help others, to cloud my judgment and prevent me from finishing what I need to do?"

Text Cut: Soul Urge Number 9 and Personal Day Number 9

Soul Urge Number :NINE (9): You are the very soul of compassion. You want, above all else, to love the world and all that's in it. With your high ideals and power to influence others, you strive for universal perfection and universal love. You are deeply intuitive and charitable, often torn by your own emotional needs and the greater needs of others. In matters of the heart and friendship, you are loving and idealistic. In fact, you love of others seems boundless - because it is.

NINE (9): A 9 Personal Day Number is a day to finish up and to use your intuition.

"And if my Personal Day Number for today was the same as my Life Path number which is a 2, does that mean that for today, I should be more patient in what I'm doing and to attend to details more? That rushing through a task today is not a wise choice to make."

Text Cut: Life Path Number 2 and Personal Day Number 2

Life Path Number :TWO (2): Your path will lead you to seek balance and harmony in all that you do and you'll learn the benefits of cooperation and compromise, as well as patience and peacekeeping. Once you've incorporated these traits, you'll move on to the next phase - drawing others together. You were born to relate to others - and make certain that others relate well to each other as well. But be sure to remember not to ignore yourself and your own needs while you're making sure everyone else is cooperating. People with 2 Life Paths are extremely sensitive that they need to be careful not to become the world's doormat. Career/vocation options include jobs that allow you to mediate, negotiate, take care of details, be in a supportive role, or gather facts.

TWO (2): A 2 Personal Day Number is a day to be patient and to attend to details.

Kurumi had been too exhausted from all the running around to have answered the first set of questions after the activity and, well, Kurumi really couldn't contribute to the next bit. Her Personal Day Number had been a 5 and her Soul Urge Number was a 6 while her Life Path Number was an 8. Kurumi idly flipped through the textbook and skimmed over the descriptions a bit. You could make parallels with all of the descriptions in some way really. They were all connected in a sense. Kurumi raised her hand anyway.

"My numbers didn't match up, but my Personal Month Number was the same as my Soul Urge Number," she said with her head slightly cocked to the right. "When we were playing though, I got tagged more by the number 8 than any other number." At least it felt like that to the prefect. "I am not sure of what sort of connections could be made there, but perhaps the pull towards the number 8, which is my Life Path Number, is stronger." That...or there were just a lot of active 8's during the activity. "There are some strong connections with my Soul Urge Number and my Personal Month Number on the other hand."

Today just wasn't a lucky day in terms of the numbers.

Ah good! A brave student who had the same and even volunteered her information! "I think it could very well be intending that you should connect with your family. After all, families are not the world's curse, you know? Most are quite supportive of you, if you're willing to just let them into your life." Of course there were the occasional few bad apples, but yea.

"I think... this means that on days when your personal day number is seven, then you should pay close attention to those days..." It might be the point of something significant in the girl's life, after all.

"If that were the case, then yes, hypothetically, you should pay closer attention to what your life path or soul urge number are saying..." Fina nodded, as the third year went on into some lengthy explanations.

Ooh. Interesting point. "I think that the fact that your soul urge number is the same as your personal month detail is indeed significant. It might prove that this month, for some peculiar reasons, has potentials and energies that only you can feel... some that yes, relate to your inner desires... your motivations, driving you along that path we call... life." Yes, Kurumi was onto something by pointing out that personal month number; after all, just because it might not have been AS significant as the personal year number, didn't mean it was void of value or meaning. There was still potentials and energies.

Right. Example time. "So ... two days ago, on the 15th of the month, my Personal Day number was ONE. Which for those of you who don't know, a one personal day number is significant to being a day to begin things and to focus on oneself. I bring this up because it just so happens that my soul urge number is also one. So what did this mean for myself, two days ago?"

There's some good in this world and it's worth fighting for| LOTR|Whovian|Sherlock Fan

Alyssa quickly referred to her textbook before figuring what the meaning meant before raising her hand to answer.

Text Cut: Personal Day Number and Soul Urge Number One

ONE (1): A 1 Personal Day Number is a day to begin things and to focus on yourself.

ONE (1): You want to lead more than anything and may want to control others too. You do not like being subordinate or taking orders. 1 Soul Numbers are often ambitious, independent, headstrong, and willful. You stay away from teams, committees - and mediocrity. In matters of the heart and friendship, everything is great when the object of your affection/friendship lives up to your expectations. You expect that person to be as charming, clever, and independent as you are. You may seem cold or distant but it is only because you are protecting yourself.

"Professor does it mean that two days ago, you decided to pamper yourself for a change and you did something that you liked to do where you were in control, instead of doing something someone else wanted to do?" Alyssa hoped that her answer at least made sense.

Glenn raised her hand when the professor asked the question, she had read somewhere in her textbook that when your soul urge or life path number matched your personal day, month or year number that the message would be stronger than usual. "Professor Hadley? Does it mean that that day in particular would have an important significance. So, that day it was err- important for you to lead and begin something? " She said.

Zhenya had a small think about what the Professor had said... what did it mean? She raised her hand to give an answer, "Professor, I know the Soul Urge number is sort of like your heart's desire, and because the number one Soul Urge number means you more want to work independently and in the lead. So, you can sort of see how that really works with your Personal Day number of one, as you said it means a day to begin things, focusing on yourself. So it almost seems like having the same Soul Urge as the Personal Day number strengthens the meaning of the Personal Day number," she said.

Sierra thought that one over then raised her hand. Both cases of having a number one seemed to point back to a person wanting to do things for themselves instead of thinking about others. Sounded like a plan to Sierra.

"Well, Professor, is there something you've been wanting to do--for yourself--but you've been holding off on for whatever reason?" she asked. "Maybe the number one in both places meant that the fifteenth was a good day to go ahead and get that done--to do something for yourself, you know."
