When it came to Arithmancy, Nessie wasn't exactly the most clever student, but she really did enjoy the subject which was why she gave Arithmancy her all. Feeling a little tired, from her lack of sleep, Ness didn't pay her full attention, which was why she kept rather quiet during the questions. It was when they started with the real practical stuff, that she started to concentrate properly. She listened and watched as the professor demonstrated how to do the calculations, and then she attempted doing the sum.Once she had finished she stared at her partchment for a few moments. o__O "I must have done something wrong." she mumbled to herself quietly, because she didn't agree one bit with what her soul number had to say about her. She was far from being any sort of leader, she didn't expect much of her friends or at least she didn't think she did and as for teams, she didn't mind them at all. Then the last bit kind of hit her...that part was kind of true. She did push many people away all because she wanted to protect herself from repeating the same mistakes. She put her lips into a pot as she thought about her soul number in more detail, and come to think of it, it did, only a bit describe her.

Now onto her next calculation, this was even more confusing as they had to use their birthdates instead of using names or letters, which Nessie somehow found easier. Right, focus, Ness bit her lip, picked up her quil and then began with further calculations.Now this was even worse than before, a frown formed on Nessie's face as she read what her life path was. This number five may have suited her just a little, but she wanted to get the number three, that was her destined fate, to be a dancer or something artistic like that. Thats what she wanted nothing else, and whatever this thing was saying about her she didn't agree with it.

Looking up at the Professor and then back down at her partchment, she lifed up her quill and 'fixed' up her calculations."Thats how it should be." she murmured to herself. "No one needs to know I was born two days after." Oops..the Professor didn't hear that right? Nope Nessie was sure she didn't.

Now to somehow keep the partchment away from Hadley, Nessie pouted once again and watched the Arithmancy Professor anxiously.

Grabbing a piece of parchment, Daichi dipped his quill in the ink and tried to calculate his soul and life path numbers.

Daichi FROWNED as he read his soul urge number. This was absolutely NOT like him! the Slytherin held his hand in the air as he called for the Professor. Maybe he had done something wrong. "Professor Hadley!" he asked as he waved his hand a little to get her attention before pointing at his number.

"I don't think this is right... i don't want to control anyone or am i cold and distant. And i joined the Slytherin Quidditch team in my first and second year so...that part about staying away from teams also can't be true" more frowning before he looked up. "And i'm not clever or indepentend.. Kurumi even needed to walk with me when we wanted to ask the groundkeeper about duckies because i couldn't do it alone!"he pouted his lips before he widened his eyes. "Err...y-you did not hear that , right?"

Now THIS was more like it. Daichi re-read the answer to his number and felt a smile creeping up on his lips. "This one looks much better, Professor" He said and placed the quill back on the desk and waited for the rest of the class to be done calculating.

Alyssa quickly reviewed her work. She hadn't realized that the Y in her names were considered as vowels, but she did what the Professor suggested and proceeeded to recalculate her Soul Urge Number.



She then reviewed her Arithmance textbook to see what the Number 9 revealed about her.



Once Alyssa had recalculated and found her Soul Urge Number and what it revealed, she raised her hand to show it to the Professor. "Professor, is my Soul Urge Number correct now?"

For the first few minutes in class, Lily just stared at the teacher with her mouth slightly open, her face full of shock. This was not what she had expected at all. She expected it to be algebra or geometry or something like in the muggle world. However once she saw the example on the board, she understood how to calculate it but was unsure how to use the number once they got to it. So she went to work on her parchment, planning on asking her question later.


Lily couldn't remember which one was which but she would figure it out. Raising her hand, Lily asked, "Umm, did I do my calculations right? and which one is my soul one, and which one is my life path one?" Lily was definitely confused about which was which and why they used these to predict what they did in life or what day was a good day for them... So all she could do was wait patiently for the teacher to check her work, and maybe explain some of this stuff to the class.

Silvia began her calculations.





Both 4s. Well, they seemed to do a decent job of describing her; cautious and organized, always following the rules. But scanning over the meanings of the different numbers in the textbook, Silvia felt like the number 7 described her a lot, as she enjoyed learning and liked to spend a lot of time by herself. But at least she didn't get a number that was completely opposite of what she felt she was like; plus these were not the only two numbers in arithmancy, so if she was lucky maybe she would find a few sevens in her numbers.

With an affirmative from Hadley concerning the soul urge number, Keefer moved on to the life path calculation. He started a new section on his parchment and began to write.



He circled the final number 9. He rifled through his book until he found the appropriate entry for Life Path numbers.

Woah, this was a lot to think about. So how did his soul urge description fit in...?

The Y is a consonant.
 

Treyen blinked at Keefer, repeatedly, as he answered. Well, the Hufflepuff Captain knew a lot about Arithmancy, didn't he? Amazing! He had no idea!

But...they had to focus on calculations now, didn't they? Okay.



So, apparently, he stayed away from teams? That was actually funny, considering he had tried out for the Quidditch team. And, truth be told, he didn't expect anything from his friends...so as long as they were there.

Soul Urge Number, we don't agree.

As far as the Life Path stuff...there might be some rightness about it. Yet if he had calculated this at the beginning of the school year, well, this would've been wrong, especially with the 'optimistic' part.

Justin thought for a moment on the question that had been asked . Then He began to write on his parchment.



Justin looked up and asked, " Professor, I don't understand how to calculate my my life urge nimber. Could you please help me....."

'Use your full name on your birth certificate.'

SNORT.

THAT wasn't happening. But then, who was Hadley to say what her full name was? No one knew save for Treyen so........



And what did those mean? Ellie wasn't copying down the meanings onto her paper. That was laborious and unnecessary. That's what the textbook was FOR, no?

So, apparently, she just liked making people happy, according to her 'Soul Urge' number. How ridiculous, right? When did she ever care if someone else was happy about what she did?

A lot, kinda........Or, at least she cared a LOT about getting those seven OWLs for her mum, right? She even went the extra mile and passed eight in hopes of her mum forgiving her lack of Potions OWL.

Anyway..... Ellie flipped a page and looked at her 'Life Path' number. Leadership. Blah, blah, blah, she was Captain, was she not? The girl was beginning to think the number creepily accurate until her gaze fell upon the word 'bookstore'. As a possible career choice.

She had to bite her lip to keep from laughing.

Travis listened to the teacher and he wiggle his quill between his Thumb and index finder. He probably should be taking notes, but really, he was sure that his brain could absorb enough for the tests to be pretty easy.

Oh, Practice? Is that what they're doing now? A'right.

Trav stopped shaking his quick, dipped it in the ink well and put it to parchment.

He skipped through the pages towards the Soul Urge. One Word hit him before any other... 'Romantic'... "HA!" He laughed loudly, before lowering his head. "Ahem... Sorry" he said almost inaudibly.
Travis Went back over his answers a few times with his quill to make them stand out. That was pretty Simple, right. He didn't really feel like checking them again, so he just started doodling in the corner of his parchment.

Yup, he was gonna draw the Zebra EVER!

Harvey listened as the Professor spoke of what he knew somewhat having done this in his first year.. but he didnt mind doing it again.. he loved the calculations that time round and it was the same again so once the professor instructed them to do so.. Harvey set to work on his calculations on his parchment

Drawing a line after her pathetic soul urge number, and with her pouty face, Louisa started calculating her life path one. Hopefully this one wouldn't suggest that she was an emotionless girl.



Circling number nine, she opened her textbook and stared down at the paragraph connected to her result:

Blink blink. That was... a bit contradicting with her soul urge thing. She furrowed her eyebrows. Those two paragraphs were trying to pass her some kind of message. A complicated one at that, too. She put down her quill and continued to move her gaze from one paragraph to the other, trying to grasp the keywords and connecting them together before trying to fit them in her life.

Glenn nodded as the teacher explained, it made a lot more sense now. Well, at least the activity they were doing at the moment did. Glenn fastened her blonde curly hair in a bun at the nape of her neck so that it wouldn't fall in her eyes and distract her, then got her quill and scribbled inside her parchment journal.


Glenn reread the definition of her Soul Urge number and frowned, Glenn raised her hand "Uh- Professor? Have I done mine correctly? This doesn't sound like me..." She read it a couple more times. Well, She guessed it was just a little like her. Cold and distant though? That wasn't her. While she waited for Professor Hadley, she wrote up her next one in her journal



Glenn smiled when she read this one. She had always loved travelling, much like her father. She also hated routines, Glenn liked doing something different every day, she couldn't stand getting up at the same time every day, to sit at the same desk and do the same work every day. School was different, she learned something new and met new people every day so it wasn't a routine. She was starting to like Arithmancy, Glenn raised her hand again "Professor Hadley, is this correct?"She smiled and doodled idly in the corner of her journal while she waited for the next instruction.

Ella pulled out her quill and parchment and got to work, brow furrowed. Muggle math time! I can do this. Dad was a math wiz! She began calculating her soul urge number first, trying to be meticulous with her calculations.

Hmm Seven Minerva thought and then she read what it said with the number.

She then started on her Life Path.


Minerva raised her hand. "Professor could you check my work?" then she noticed Butterfly looked frustrated. "Could you use some help, is that ok Professor if I help her?"

The Heart's Desire/Soul Urge Number and the Life Path Number, hm? Not too hard. Vashti had calculated them quite a few times before, but she wasn't going to just use her old notes. That made Arithmancy boring, and the subject was clearly anything but. So she picked up her quill, dipped it into her ink, and started calculating.

I want to be the bossor at least have some sort of power in the world. It is difficult for me to comprhend the emotions of others and prefer to stick to business over emotional affairs. I want to feel more important in what I perceive to be the real world.In matters of the heart and friendships, I place business over emotional closeness. I should look for a strong capable mate who equals my ambitions. But I'm usually too busy for romance and true friendships.

Oh good! No minor calculation mistakes this time around. Always a small confidence boost. "Certainly, professor," Kurumi replied, bowing her head slightly as she stood up and walked towards the board, taking her parchment with her. Picking up a piece of chalk, Kurumi wrote as neatly as she could in medium sized numbers on the board.
Dusting off her hands and setting the chalk down, Kurumi returned to her seat.
Picking up her quill again, Kurumi began to work on her soul urge number calculations. First things first, writing down her full name. It was times like this that she was pleased Japan didn't have a tradition of giving middle names - although, she was pretty sure Professor Hadley had marked her down during her first term for not using her full name on an assignment when she had in fact done so. Now, it was a matter of whether or not the Y in her name worked as a vowel or not.

Leaning back in her seat a bit, Kurumi whispered her last name without the Y and with it. No, it had to be a vowel. Without it there her name sounded nothing like what it was. Vowels only, remember that. Just to make sure that she didn't make a silly mistake, Kurumi assigned a value of 0 to all the consonants. Visual cues were always helpful.

Kurumi read over the description and nodded every now and again. It seemed to fit...minus beauty being considered something very important to her. Sure, Kurumi did value it to some degree...but it wasn't in the top five things she thought about when she was making a list of her personal values.

Setting her quill down, Kurumi waited for Professor Hadley to double check her work and for whatever came next.

Minerva could see Butterfly struggling so she finally leaned over. "Butterfly could you use some help?" Minerva pulled her parchment over to show her. Now for the Soul Urge Number you need to find the numbers that go with the letters of your first, middle, and last name. For example mine is:

Now you will add each number in the names together. So add all the numbers in your first name to get an answer, middle for an answer, and last for a number. You want them to end up in single numbers so if get a sum of 15 for your first name you will then add 1+5 to get a 6. Once you get all the names sums you will add those together. So for mine it is 6+7+3 which ends up 16 then I take 16 and do 1+6 so I can get a single number of 7. Does this make sense at all?"
