Minerva smiled. "Oh that's easy." she pulled Butterfly's book over and opened to Chapter two. "The numbers for each letter are right here." Minerva pointed to the page in the book that showed where all the numbers and letters were located.

Having finished her own calculations, Kurumi smiled when she saw the younger Puff helping the younger Slytherin girl, only it seemed that the poor thing was still a little confused. Kurumi leaned back in her seat a bit and looked at her paper, showing the girl her own parchment as well. "You're almost there, but you don't need to add up ALL the letters in your name, just the vowels," she explained as she pointed to her own parchment. "So, just take the numbers for the U, E, and Y in your first name and the E and A in your last name." The Y in her name acted like a vowel from what Kurumi could tell. "Then keep adding everything until you get to a small single digit number." She pointed to her work again, hoping that the visual would help.

Minerva realized her she forgot to tell Butterfly that in her explanation. "I'm sorry Butterfly that was my fault. I didn't mention to add just the vowels together." Well Kurumi had taken over in helping so Minerva just turned back to her own parchment.

Kurumi smiled and watched as the girl gave everything another try. Good good, only the vowels this time. Except...

"Good, only there is one small little problem," Kurumi said pointing to the Slytherin's numbers. "You accidentally added the number corresponding to the L in your name instead of the Y. That second 3 should be a 7."

Alright Oakey time to get down to the nitty gritty. He opened his text book for extra help if needed and set hi quill upright for it to begin writing. As he scanned the book for more information on Life Path Numbers. He peeked up for a moment to see what it was the Kurumi had written on the board. his quill started writing the data that Hadley had asked for after Kurumi's example on the board.



Oakey peered up from the text when he saw that his quill had finished his Life Path Number equation. It had said "One", Oakey dove back into his book and skimmed it until he found what "One" meant for him.

He read the definition to himself and looked over at his quill who had been motionless for a moment. Then it began to scribble down what Oakey had wanted it to.



Right now to get this Soul Urge Number done. Oakey once again drove his face into the text book and started scanning for more information on the stuff that Hadley had described. His Quill working just as hard as Oakey was reading



Oakey looked up once more when his quill laid itself down. It seems the answer was three. He began skimming for it's definition, once he found it the quill got back to work.


His quill rested itself and Oakey waited for the Professor to check his work. He wasn't sure if he should include the Y in his first name, Oakey raised his hand. Professor I wasn't sure if I needed to include the Y in my name? I did as you said because your name ends in E-Y like mine, but it doesn't seem right.

Kurumi looked over at Butterfly's parchment again and nodded. "Good, now you just need to add the 1 and 2 together," she instructed. "There are only a few double digit numbers where you don't need to do that." She reached back to her desk for her textbook to show her. "So, besides those last three sets, keep adding until you get a single digit."

Life Path? Soul Urge? Beezus was sure they already had that last term. It was a good thing though, they were reviewing with it and not tackling more complicated calculations. She was sure she'd be fine with calculating for it now since Kurumi already helped her with that.

When Professor Hadley told them to start calculating for the said numbers. She immediately pulled out a parchment from her backpack. Then she dipped the quill in the inkwell as she started writing the equivalents of the letters and numbers first.
That way, she wouldn't have any errors when finding the equivalent number to the letters. She shuffled in her seat as she took out another piece of parchment. She'll start calculating the her Soul Urge and Life Path now.

She stared at the parchment for a second. She was not the type who would review their work afterwards. She didn't want to read everything again and again so she decided to just ask the Professor if she calculated her Soul Urge and Life Path numbers correctly. "Professor, excuse me..Can you please take a look at my parchment?" she asked after raising her hand. She'd be looking up the meaning of the number a bit while later.

Sorry was going to jump in to help earlier, but 3G was bad.
 

Alyssa was glad that Kurumi had jumped in to help both Butterfly and Minnie. If she hadn't, she would have. Puffies needed to look out for each other. Glad that Butterfly now had the right calculations, Alyssa sat back to wait for the Professor to recheck her own calculations.

Okay. OKAY...

He had this. Kennedy had his text book open on the desired page and his quill and parchment ready. He scanned the text and then rubbed the back of his neck. It looked like hard work and...to many numbers, but this would be a good challenge. Plus, he did fairly well last term, so it couldn't be too bad this time around, right?



He glanced back and forth to the text book as he began his calculations. It was as if the boy was in some sort of weird number trance and couldn't stop his quill.

After he was done with his soul number calculations he began with the second part.

This was the moment Sierra wished it was appropriate to bang her head against the desk. She loathed Arithmancy, and although calculating these two numbers would be a piece of cake, she just didn't want to do them. Blahh. Nevertheless, she dipped her quill in ink and began:

She put more ink in her quill and began to write down the numbers

Hmmm...calculating these two numbers wouldn't be too hard it seemed to the Gryffindor as he watched how it was done by Professor Hadley and Kurumi. Auggie pulled his parchment and quill closer to him and began to calculate.

So what did that mean? August quickly turned away from his work on the paper and flipped through his textbook to find the number definition. There it was.

A born communicator did seem to describe him at times and August couldn't help but help but chuckle at the bit about illustrating and thinking about the horrible drawing he had done in Divination last term.

Now that Ira had calculated both, her Soul urge number and Life path number, she proceeded to see what they meant.

First, came her Soul urge number. What was it? Oh yeah, number 9. She looked in her textbook and here was what it said:
And then came her life path number. It was 11. She again looked in her textbook for its interpretation, and this was what she found.

So finally she had completed her work!

But the interpretations were way different than what she really was. Though it was flattering enough, it wasn't the truth! She decided to ask the professor, "Professor, at least as far as I know myself, I am not like how the numbers tell about me.. So what does this mean?"

Hearing a small voice asking if her work was correct, Josephina hurried in the direction of the small Hufflepuff. Looking it over, she smiled. "Yes, my dear, you did."

"Much better, dear," Fina said as she passed by the young Gryffindor again.

And then the girl proceeded to calculate her life path, to which Fina looked it over, shaking her head. "It's correct, yes, but please do try to use PEDMAS next time, in reducing each component to a single digit before you add them together." For one, it's a lot easy to add single digits than trying to add two digit numbers.

Seeing a pout in the direction of a Ravenclaw, Josephina hurried over to investigate. Hazel eyes scanned the parchment and almost immediately, she discovered a couple of errors. "Two things, dear. In your first name, you missed a vowel." Because Louisa had a lot of vowels in it. "And in your middle name, the Y does act as a vowel, I believe." So in other words, if you're unhappy with your number, it's probably because it's not yours.

Hearing a question from one of her Hufflepuffs, Fina looked up at Alex and blinked. "Um... well, I don't think the third is really part of your full name, is it? I mean is it on your birth certificate? What do you mean by technically?" Of course it was only two extra numbers in the case of the soul urge number anyway, by adding those two words on ....

Seeing another student waiting for her to check her work, Josephina approached the Ravenclaw's desk and pondered it a moment before repeating once more, "The Life Path is correct, yes, but please do try to use PEDMAS next time, in reducing each component to a single digit before you add them together." But as for the soul urge... "Your soul urge number is incorrect though. You've mistaken the U for a 2, whereas on the Number System chart, it's actually 3."

Oh good, someone who actually knew how to use PEDMAS. Nodding in satisfaction at the first number calculations, Fina frowned at the girl's Life Path Number. For one, the one she crossed out was incorrect, and two, when she redid it, she changed the day of her birth. "Um... Ness? Your addition is wrong no matter which day you were born on. And please, I'm trusting you to use your correct day of birth and not change it to get a certain life path number. That defeats the purpose of Arithmancy." She gave the redhead a stern look, basically telling her to do it correctly.

Hearing someone call her name from across the room, Josephina perked up in shock and hurried over to the young slytherin to hear his dilemma. And as sad as it sounded, "Unfortunately, your calculations are both correct, but I am going to advise you ONCE MORE to use PEDMAS, in reducing each component to a single digit before you add them together." Seriously, she needed to start deducting points for those who DIDN'T use it and still chose to add up those large numbers.

Hearing another request to review her work, Fina strode by the desk of Alyssa again and nodded as she glanced it over. "Much better, dear."

And another student was done. Looking over the girl's work, she nodded in approval. "Perfect." As it should be considering the year of the girl and the fact that this was basic stuff.

Seeing a hand-raise, Fina approached the young Ravenclaw and looked over her work. "The Life path number is the one with your birthday, and yes, that one is correct. The soul urge is the one where you use the vowels in your full name. It's almost correct. You've mistaken the number value for Y in your first name; it should be a 7, not a six."

Passing by another Ravenclaw's desk, Josephina nodded in approval as she checked the girl's work.

And it was back to the captain again; looking it over as he worked on his life path number, she nodded in approval, as she looked to her prefect next to him who was just finishing up....

Scanning over her prefect's parchment, she nodded at his calculations. They were, of course, good. He'd come quite a ways with the subject and she had to admit that she was proud of him.

And speaking of people who came a long way, Josephina passed by the desk of the Ravenclaw Captain next and looked over her work. "Good, good," she nodded in approval at the girl's calculations.

Hearing a rather loud laugh, Josephina turned in the direction of a young boy and went to look over his calculations... good ... good... oh no, wait... "Um.. Your Life Path Number, you've miscalculated that one. Which is why I recommend you use PEDMAS to reduce each component to a single digit before you add them together. As you did with your soul urge. So yea, check that calculation on your life path and you're good to go."


And then onto look at another's work; looking over, she nodded in approval at the second year. Another one who had the same soul urge and life path numbers.

Back to Louisa again, who had decided to start work on her life path. This time though, she was correct, to which Josephina nodded at her with approval.


Hearing another innocent voice asking her to check her work, Josephina strode over to the young second year and looked over her work. "Your soul urge is technically correct. Except well, your surname is tricky with that Y. I'm not sure I would count it as a vowel." She paused contemplating. "But then your life path... you got almost to the end and then when you went and added up the three components, you've made a small adding mistake..." 8 plus 2 plus 3 did not equal 14, after all.

Seeing an older boy making a face, Josephina strode over to investigate the boy's calculations. "What's wrong? It looks correct to me."

Seeing another student was done, she walked over to look at her work and smiled. It was refreshing after all to see so many young hufflepuffs seem to be actually getting Arithmancy. "Good job," Fina nodded.

Walking over toward Minnie as she asked her to check her work, she looked it over.... perusing the girl's parchment. Soul urge looked good... but ... "Your Life path... I'm not sure that I really follow your calculations for that one. As in, I can see your year of birth, but your month and day, seem unclear to me where you included them in the calculation." She smiled gratefully though when the second year volunteered to help the Slytherin in need of assistance.

Not that she really felt she needed to check the Head Girl's work, she walked by anyway, just for the sake of it and scanned her parchment, nodding in approval.

"They're both correct now," Josephina said, passing by a young Hufflepuff's desk. "But you should know that it would probably be easier if you don't write ALL the numbers down for each letter. Just the vowels. This way you wouldn't accidentally add in the wrong number. You can just put a dash or something in place of the number." Just a tidbit.

"You... still ended up with the correct answer, but you do realize you added the I from Kurumi as part of your last name as well... right? So you got an extra 9 in there..." You know, just an FYI. But since 27 and 36 are both multiples of 9, it made no difference. In this case.

Seeing that a certain Paulie Foster had rested his quill to the side, she strode by to have a peek at his parchment, despite him not having raised his hand. She nodded though in approval and then moved on....registering faintly on the fact that he was seated next to a certain Ravenclaw.

Another Gryffindor who hadn't asked, but she glanced over the girl's work all the same and nodded at her in approval when she didn't see anything blatantly wrong with her calculations.




"Thank you, Miss Wheatborn and Miss Hollingberry, for helping out a classmate," she smiled at the girls, making a mental note about their efforts. Now, back to investigating the young Slytherin's work, which it seemed as though the two girls had helped her mostly enough out. At least she knew where to get the numbers from. "It's good, yes, but might I suggest if you don't need the numbers for the particular calculation you're doing, then you don't record it. It'll be easier so you don't accidentally add the wrong number." Just a tidbit.

"And yes, you should reduce your final answer to a single digit."

Hearing another question, Josephina looked over to Oakey and shook her head. "You did it correctly. I don't believe the Y is a vowel in your name, because of that E that's next to it."

Hearing another request to look over her parchment, Josephina went over toward the young ravenclaw and glanced it over. Almost about to say it looked fine, she frowned. "No... your middle name ... in your soul urge number. You've made a minor calculating error there." So in other words, her soul urge number was wrong. "Otherwise, it's good."


Again, though Gideon hadn't asked for her to look over his parchment, Josephina went by his desk and looked anyway. And nodded when she noticed it was fine, thus moving onto the next...

She frowned when she reached the desk of the Slytherin prefect, shaking her head. "No. Your last name... the A ... on the chart, A is a 1, not a 7." That was actually the case on MANY number systems, not just the Pythagorean. So obviously, his soul urge number was wrong. But the life path number was fine though.

Walking by Sierra's desk next, as Fina noticed the girl had stopped writing, she glanced over the girl's parchment and nodded when everything seemed to check out alright and then moved onto to the next...

She nodded in approval at the girl's life path number and then gazed around the classroom for any others who were finishing up. All good, it seemed.


Which meant it was time to move on from the core numbers and onto the rest of the lesson. "Now that we've had that good review of half of your core numbers, which as I mentioned before, they're important to your personal day numbers, because it is when these numbers match your personal day number that you'll feel a stronger connection to those days..."

"In order to find this personal Day number, you'll need to calculate your personal month number. Which in order to calculate that, you'll need to calculate your personal year number. For right now, I'd like you to review either independently or quietly with someone nearby about the calculations for these three numbers, which are discussed in chapters 18-20 of your text." She paused. "We'll reconvene in ten minutes."

Looking up from his calculations, Auggie saw that he had finished just in time as the professor seemed ready to introduce to them the real topic of today's lessons: Personal Day Numbers. So what was all the Core stuff, just a warm up?

Oh well.

Soooo they were working with partners? August listened closely to Hadley before turning in his chair and looking at Kurumi with a mischevious little grin. "Partners?" he asked quickly. He was sure she would agree but it was always better to ask.

Oh. She had?! Kurumi scanned her parchment and, sure enough, there it was, the extra nine. Kurumi giggled a bit and scratched it out on her parchment. "I suppose I was just trying to celebrate the use of it in the Pythagorean method," she replied. A bit of dry Arithmancy humor for you right there. "Thank you, professor."
Hearing Professor Hadley move the lesson along, Kurumi first opened up her textbook to the appropriate pages. First up was Personal Year Number and as Kurumi scanned the page with her finger for instructions, she hear slight screech of a chair being moved beside her and looked up from her book.
What...was that smile for? Kurumi blinked at August several times before registering what he was asking. "Of course," she nodded. It WAS a little weird not partnering up with Treyen for these sorts of things. But, well, ever since the polyjuice disaster, Treyen had taken to sitting elsewhere. At least he and her had fixed that issue. Still, it was sort of sad that she no longer needed to bring her sunglasses to glass to avoid the teeth glare.

Kurumi returned to her textbook to find the instructions. "Ah, here it is. To find your Personal Year Number you add your month of birth plus day of birth plus current calendar year." That didn't seem too bad, and now Kurumi would know when August's birthday was. Har har!

Missing the strangeness of the first glance Kurumi had given him August smiled gratefully as she agreed to partner-up with him. The Gryffindor scooted his desk to sit against the Prefect's and then he plopped his textbook back out in the center of his desk, listening as she read the definition of the Personal Year Number.

"Sounds easy enough..." August grabbed his quill and began to scratch out numbers onto his parchment. "I will go ahead and try mine first."

"Ok so I got the number 9 as my personal year number and it says a lot about dreaming, revising, and preparing for the next 9 years of my life." He then furrowed his eyebrows in concentration. "But it also says to seek to perfect what was begun 8 years ago...I was only 7." he chuckled.

"Ok so you go ahead and start working on your's I guess, and I will look up the Personal Month Number calculation." Auggie flipped the pages of his textbook and finally found it. "So, it says here that we need to add our newly calculated Personal Year Numbers with the reduced calender month number that Professor Hadley has given us." he said with a final nod.

Again not too hard since they had already done the work to get one of their numbers.

Glenn smack a hand to her forehead, "Urgh, of course." She scratched a line through the mistakes and wrote beneath it, the correct number and meaning.


Glenn read over her new addition to her journal and nodded, yes, she guessed it made more sense than her last one. Perhaps the things she related to with number five were just a coincident. Now that she thought hard about it, advertising didn't really appeal to her. Education and Business, that was cool! And Glenn guessed she was pretty organised, with her journal and all.

With what the Professor had said about the Y maybe not counting as a vowel in her name, Glenn decided to make another calculation. She dipped her quill in some ink and started below her old calculation.



No, no, no! That was not correct. "Uh-Professor? I tried taking away the Y and I came up with this?" Glenn frowned down at her journal, that couldn't be correct! She wasn't like that! "I think the Y counts, because I am NOT like that at all."

At the next instruction, Glenn looked around the room searching for a partner. She'd go with Sophie, but she seemed to be making these minor mistakes all the time. It would be cool to work with an older student, they'd know every to know about Arithmancy.

Beezus moved away when Professor Hadley headed to see her work, she wanted her to get a clear look at her parchment for she was sure that it had errors. She was always slow with numbers, as much as she was slow with memorizing incantations. When Professor Hadley pointed out her mistake, her face couldn't help but scrunch into a small frown. See? Very careless Beatrice, she told herself.

Oh well..She nodded at the Professor and reverted her attention back on her parchment. Time to recalculate.

Feeling a bit more careful than a while ago, she rested her chin on her hand which she placed on top of the desk. "Yeah, one plus five is six.." Beezus nodded as she tried searching for errors on her recalculation.

When she couldn't find any more, she took out her Arithmancy book and started scanning through the pages to find the meaning for her Soul Urge and Life Path Number. "Let's see...Soul Urge..is 6.." she mumbled as her index finger traced down the words and numbers on the textbook. "Ah, here 'ya go."

Upon finishing, she smirked. Sure, she considers harmony and home as important things. But..beauty? "No..must be wrong.." The eaglet can't help but comment. Aside from that part, she gotta agree with the remaining part. Yeah, surely she'd fall in love someday and she'd love that person deeply. That was just her. And in friendship. It was also true, she really does treasure her friends and wants them to stay in her life long.

Afterwards, she then searched for the meaning of her Life Path Number.. "Err--what was my Life Path Number again?" she murmured as she rummaged through the parchments on her desk. "Oh. It's 3.."

"Artistic, creative and articulate? Me?" Beezus chuckled. She just can't describe herself as that. But after reading it, she felt like she must live up to it. "Uh-huh..but no dancing.." she added after seeing the 'd' word.

Just as she had finished looking for the meanings, it so happened that Professor Hadley was also done helping the other students who sought her assistance. Beezus listened as the Arithmancy Professor told them that their calculations of the Core Numbers were just the beginning and that their real lesson was all about finding their Personal Year Number. Great, more solving. She thought. She needed a partner for that. She just couldn't work alone. Not when numbers are concerned. Looking around, she said, "Err--anyone wanna partner up?" Wasn't directed to anyone but she was hoping to be partners with someone who had a bond with numbers.

Gah! Kendra sighed in exasperation, her quill crossing through her calculations for what seemed the millionth time, she relaxed, just for a moment, trying to get her head back ready to have another go, and new try. She wondered if every Ravenclaw was smart at numbers, or she just wasn't one? She made a note to look at some famous Ravenclaws sometime in a book, learn more about her house, as she hadn't had much time to yet this year.

She had listened to everything Professor Hadley had told her, yet it still made no sense. Kendra picked up her quill and moved the parchment down, readying herself for another try.

Alyssa turned to Minnie, her fellow housemate. "Uh....Minnie would you like to work with me on this next part of the assignment?" Minnie was smart and Alyssa definitely needed someone with her brains to help her get through this lesson.

"I'll partner up with you!" Glenn smiled and pulled up a chair next to the girls desk, she had brought her journal with her, along with her quill as well. "I'm Glenn," She said, "Would you mind if borrow your ink?"

Glenn had already started her calculation of her Personal Year Number at her own desk. She looked down at the half-finished calculation and swept her hair back from her eyes.

Oi. A badger volunteered to pair up with her. When the girl sat beside her, Beezus moved over to give her a bigger space while her hands slowly pulled her parchment and other things to her side of the desk. "Hi Glenn. I'm Beezus." she introduced herself too.

The eaglet opened her Arithmancy textbook to look for the Personal Year Number section when Glenn asked if she could use her ink. "Sure." Beezus answered as she pushed her inkwell lightly near her. "So err--do you know how to solve for the Personal Year Number? We have to find it first before calculating for the Personal Month Number."

"Nice to meet you Beezus." Glenn dipped her quill into Beezus' ink and continued her calculation, "Yeah, I think I know." Glenn said, looking up from her work and smiling at the Ravenclaw.

Glenn flicked to the Personal Year Number chapter and reread the instructions, she scribbled a her calculation in her journal.

Whatever that meant. She placed her quill down and looked up at Beevus, "Do you need help or...?" Glenn said.

Kurumi watched as August did his calculations and read the description along with him. "I guess...you might need to work out some of your karmic numbers to see what it is that you need to perfect," Kurumi shrugged. She wasn't entirely sure if that was true or not, but that sort of made sense. "Or...did something happen when you were seven?"

Kurumi turned her gaze to her own parchment. Time for her to work with some numbers as well.
Reading the description, Kurumi nodded her head and a small smile tickled the edges of her lips. That...seemed about right.

She looked up as August when he found the instructions for their Personal Month Number. That didn't seem so bad either. "Alright, I'll give that a try then," she nodded, moving her hand a bit further down her parchment.

Kurumi frowned. She did not like how all her calculations were coming up with results about her family. Yes, she knew that her mother was making more frequent trips to the hospital, but her father was constantly assuring her that it was nothing but a persistent chest cold.

So...why were Selina's visions and now her Arithmancy answers implying the opposite.

Trying to cover up her concern, Kurumi looked at August. "And just how am I supposed to spend quality time with my family when I am in school?"

Shrugging all other thoughts off with a graceful roll of her shoulders, Kurumi flipped through her book for the final step of their calculations. "Alright, to find out Personal Day Number, it says you need to add the current calendar day to your Personal Month Number." Once again, that seemed pretty straight forward. Kurumi checked her planner for the date and jotted it down on her parchment. "Seventeenth, today's date," she said with a wink.

Since this calculation didn't seen too bad, Kurumi went ahead and did hers, covering up her answer until August finished his. They could reveal their answers together.

When Glenn dipped her quill on Beezus' inkwell, the young eaglet took the liberty to scan the book for the lesson they were currently tackling. "Here it is. Chapter Eighteen. The Personal Year Number." she muttered as she started reading.

"In summary, the Personal Year number tells you where to focus your energy for each year. The Personal Year Number indicates what you must face and accomplish to live in harmony with the natural flow of the year." Beezus nodded and turned towards her partner. At that same time, Glenn showed her her own calculation. Beezus looked at Glenn's solution then back to the text book and vice versa. "Oh. I see. In order to get your Personal Year Number, you've got to add month of your birth, the date and the current year. Isn't that right?" she asked the younger badger.

Without waiting for her partner's response, Beezus grabbed a parchment, the same one that she had used to solve her Life Path and Soul Urge Number on. "Hmmm..let's see.. It's year 2076." Then she jotted it down and started calculating.

"I've got six.." The eaglet said as she turned to face Glenn. "Can you kindly check if I have any errors?" Because she was never going to review her work.

"Oh, right! Thank you, Professor!" Tayla did miss that one. She went over her parchment again and corrected her mistake.

The Life Path Number remained the same, but now her calculation was correct.


Tayla turned her book to the chapters the professor mentioned.

"Your Personal Year Number is a number that describes what is happening for you, personally, this year..." Tayla read quietly to herself. "The formula for calculating the Personal Year number is..."

Taking her quill again, she decided to practice a little.

"I think that's correct..." Tayla thought.

Looking back at her textbook, she read what '3' meant. "A 3 year is one of the most difficult to comprehend, mainly because while the 3 is supposed to be about fun, socializing, and happiness, people often experience agonizing feelings..." Hmmm... "In a 3 year, creative juices are more freely flowing than in other years..." That sounded nicer. "More than any other year, this is the time to use your imagination!"

Tayla thought briefly about what she had just read and decided to continue with the next chapters. She read about each number and proceeded with her calculations. Tayla could show them to Professor Hadley when she needed to.

"I hope I did all these correctly," Tayla thought and then raised her hand, wondering how to correctly relate all the numbers. "Professor, is there a proper way to interpret the meanings of these numbers together?"

Ira was relieved to know that she hadn't made any more silly mistakes in calculations again. "Thank you professor!" she said and proceeded with the lesson. Okay.. so now they had to calculate their Personal Day, month and year number. Were there numbers like those even? Well, it certainly looked so!

She looked in her textbook and read the chapter quietly. So as the professor had said, for finding Day number, month number was needed. Which in order to calculate that, personal year number was needed. So that meant, her first task would be finding her personal year number. She looked in her textbook for instructions. She started her calculations on a fresh parchment:

She immediately corrected it.

Zhenya was READY for numbers! She dipped her quill back into the ink and began her calculation...
She quickly read in the text book, and noted, that the Personal Year Number represents what would personally be happening in Zhenya's year.

Okay, so Zhenya was born on the 6th of July, and the current year was 2076

Okay - now for the Personal Month Number! She worked out this worked with the year number. So, now to calculate that one!

So, she knew her personal year number was 1, but she needed to reduce the calendar month from that.. okay!
This month was October, therefore her formula was

OKAY - final one! Time to work out her Personal Day Month... She read this number was only the focus of the day, whilst also taking into account the year and month. But anyway...

Okay - so today was the 17th, and her personal month number was two - so they were her numbers

She looked up at the Professor and raised her hand, "I think it is correct... but would you mind checking it please?" she asked, looking back down to it. She loved it when things fell in place, she just hoped it was right.

Now that Ira had calculated her Personal year number, she could move on to personal month number and personal day number. Sjhe looked into her textbook for instructions and started to calculate:

Ness? The Hufflepuff looked up at the sound of her name, and to be honest she was rather shocked to see Hadley standing by her. Since when had Hadley called her Ness?...she usually adressed her by Miss Dixon, not that she minded of course, to be honest she liked Ness more, it made her feel more herself around the Arithmancy Professor.

When people said that Hufflepuff's were good finders, they trully meant it, because Hadley did seem to figure out what Nessie had done rather easily. Correction? Nessie checked her crossed out calculation, hoping that somehow the correction she would have to fix, would make her Life Path number a three, but sadly nope it didn't. She bit her lip, and then redid the whole calculation, because she sort of had to, and this time she wouldn't change her birth date, because she could see Hadley didn't want her to. Also she needed to make her Head of House proud right? She needed to show her how well behaved and clever her badgers were.

Taking out a new piece of parchment, Nessie started to rewrite her calculation.She disliked this answer even more than the previous one, but whatever she gave up. It was better to be truthful than lie to herself right? And even if this meant she wouldn't get to be the dancer she wanted to be...Meh..it was all part of life, and there wasn't much she could do to change it.

She listened to what they were moving onto next and sort of just sat, she didn't pick up a quil, nor did she look at her book. She just sat and sort of frowned. This Arithmancy was just to confusing, and she was at the verge of giving up, but she only stayed because of Hadley. She loved Hadley..she loved her even at times like a mother, and it wasn't like she hated Arithmancy. She just wished she was more cleverly suited for the subject, because it did seem like very exciting, but only once you understood it.

Ira, having calculated all her personal numbers, set to work finding the meanings of the numbers.

First she decided to look up the meaning of her Personal Year Number meaning. It was number 6. She looked in her textbook and it said:
This was the year when she was needed by her family the most? Sop shouldn't that mean that she should be with her family right now? But of course it wasn't possible.. And romantic relationship? Uh-huh! No, she was definitely wasn't thinking about relationships! But one thiong she could do, that was being generous and sympathetic..

Then came her Personal Month number which was 7. So what did it mean?

This certainly seemed to reflect her mindset at the moment. She really wanted to be alone, walking through a quiet forest and humming gently to herself. But unfortunately, even this wasn't possible for her! She possibly couldn't miss her studies!

Then came her Personal Day Number which was 6. It meant that

So that meant, that today was her day to pay attention to her work. She had been doing that. She had attended her classes and was going to do her homework in the evening.

There, she had finally completed all her calculations and interpretations. She then leaned back against her bench, and waited for the lesson to proceed.

Keefer turned to chapter eighteen and began to skim the information on Personal Year Number. It didn't seem all that difficult to calculate. He looked over at Treyen. "What d'you reckon? Should we give it a try?"

Without even waiting for an answer, he began to scribble. His month was 10, his date was 27, and the current year was 2076. So 37 plus 2076... that's 2,113. Wait, are we supposed to use the reduction method? "Treyen, are we supposed to reduce components first? The instructions aren't very clear." He tried that next.

1 + 9 + 15 = 10 + 6 = 16 = 7

"Yes, that's gotta be it. Because if I reduce 2,113... Wait, I still get 7. Is that normal? You try it and see what happens."

Aurora had been struggling a lot with the whole maths thing... she hated numbers... a lot. She'd only just figured out her life path number when Professor Hadley started talking about the personal day number. What? She hadn't even had time to think about her soul urge number. She was writing so quickly that she didn't even notice that she now had ink on the end of her nose from a little splash when she reloaded her quill. She took a deep breath before attempting the personal day number, her brow furrowed in concentration.



Okay... so she was pretty sure she had caught up... Wow... this was difficult!!!! She checked and re-checked all of her calculations, her finger running over the explanations in the text book. Okay... they seemed alright... She put down her quill and started to look up what each of the numbers meant in her text book.



Wow... Some of these things were weirdly accurate... Some of them, however, didn't sound like her at all. But maybe they did, deep down.

oh thanks Merlin, Jezzabelle thought as Professor Hadley had looked over her shoulder and then walked away without a word. She must have done it all right then. Right, moving on....to even more math. She looked it all over in her book and decided to study independently. It was that she like to study alone, she just preferred to do it alone for now.

It seemed easy enough. A lot of work but easy enough. She decided to work on one section at a time. First the Personal Year Number.



Sigh. For what reason would her family need her? She was never needed before. What would make this year so different. And romantic relationships. She wasn't really all that into dating. Balance your needs with the needs of others... Well then, that didn't seem so complicated did it...

August looked as Kurumi looked over his calculation and he shook his head with a confused look on on is face. "I don't really remember what happened when I was seven." Nope he couldn't really think of anything at the moment, he may have to owl his parents about that one.

As Kurumi did her personal month number Auggie read over her shoulder but seeing as her's seemed to have more personal meaning than his, the Gryffindor didn't really bring it up. Family trouble wasn't something to discuss in the middle of class.

Next the Prefect explained to him the personal day calculation, but he had yet to do his personal Month one!! "Hold on just a second, let me finish mine." He said teasing her and quickly doing that calculation.

Personal Year Number + reduced calendar month number = Personal Month Number
9+(1+0)= 10
(1+0) = 1

Hmmm...Auggie liked this one ok. He would be taking control? That sounded nice. When he looked up Kurumi had already worked on her Personal Day number it seemed and was hiding it from him. "I'm not going to copy it." he chuckled. "Fine you can't see mine until it's finished either then." Covering his parchment from her view August continued to finish the last calculation Professor Hadley had talked about.



"Ok Kurumi, you show you calculation firstm because well ladies first." he grinned cheekily.

Aaaand...Treyen didn't even get a chance to answer this particular question, but really, Keefer probably knew his answer was going to be a positive one and that's why he went ahead and...did some calculations of his own.

First, he needed to check what Keefer was saying, which is why he went for the textbook again.

"No, no, I think you did it right. The reduced numbers are the ones we use." He said, nodding as he looked the Captain. The Hufflepuff Captain, of course. "Oh." It was also seven? "Let's see." It was his turn for calculations now...



Eh...okay. That was...yeah. He scribbled on his notes the other calculation Keefer had made, without reducing the numbers...2076 + 10 + 4 = 2090 = 11 = 2. And he blinked. "Well, I get the same number either way." So, did it really matter? The reducing bit?

"For the Personal Month, though, we have to use the previous number...and add it to the reduced number of the current month." Which was 10, because it was October. Got it.



GO OUT TO LUNCH? You're kidding, right? After that Muggle Studies dinner he's been eating less than before!

But...whatever. It was a good thing that Bentley had sent them to sing and tell a story to the Fire Seed Bush, then.

Treyen cleared his throat before moving on to the Personal Day Number. "Okay, for the last number we use the Personal Month Number and add the reduced number of...well, today." What was today? 16? 17? OH. Yeah, 17.



And he laughed. This was extremely correct, considering Arithmancy relied on details, didn't it?

"You try." Because now Treyen was curious.

Anybody want to partner up?
 

As Alyssa waited for someone to partner up with her, she decided to start calculating the her Personal Day Number, her Personal Month Number and her Personal Month Number.

So she first reviewed chapters 18-20 in her textbook, and once she was sure about how to calculate them to get the Personal Day, she started working on the first set of number, the Personal Year Number



Once she had calculated the Personal Year Number, she proceeded to move to the next set of numbers, which was the Personal Month Number



Now for the final set of numbers.



Now she had the numbers that the Professor had wanted them to calculate, Alyssa sat back to see who was willing to partner with her because she would love to help and discuss, someone else's Personal Day Number.

Laying her head on her desk, Nessie remained doing nothing, she didn't want to try the next few calculations, as she felt it make her look silly, but it was when she heard someone standing right next to her that she sort of changed her mind. "Mia!" she said a little excited to see the older badger, that was now sitting next to her.

She gave the girl a little nod. "Yeah sure." Maybe since Mia was quite a clever girl, she could help Ness out with all the things that confused her. "I'm just warning you..this Arithmancy doesn't really agree with me." You know...just to make sure Mia knew, that Ness wasn't the greatest at these things.

Now where to begin, Ness looked back at her textbook and read over a few of the notes. "I think..we have to start with the Personal year number, and then we do the other two...and then after that we discuss..I think" she nodded in agreement with herself as she was sure that, thats what Hadley had said. So getting to work she started scribbling her calculations.

Once she had finished with her first calculation, she checked it and bit her lip hoping it was iright. The answer she got did sort of make sense, but only a little. Twiddling with her fingers she waited for Mia to finish so they could discuss both their first calculations.

Discuss independently or quietly with a partner? Well. A partner it is then. Arithmancy was a difficult subject and discussing it rather than just sinking in its depth alone would be better. Scooting her chair toward the Gryffindor sitting next to her, Louisa started ahead without even taking his permission. "So.. we have to calculate personal year number, then personal month number and lastly finding out our personal day number." She scribbled down those steps on her parchment.



Bringing her Arithmancy textbook to rest on her lap, she started calculating her number. Discussing the result with Paulie later would be daring to say the least. Hehe.

"Err.. balance my needs with the needs of others while being generous and sympathetic." She announced. Well. This number thing was getting a liiiittle creepy considering how true they turned out to be. And how much they indicated to her personal life.

She waited for Paulie to announce his own while working on the personal month number.



"Curl up with a good book and spend some alone time?" Louisa's smile was very bright you could see her shining. Figuratively speaking. "I can do that!" A lot. In fact, she was going to spend most of this term curling up in the library and reading ahead for OWLs' sake.

Again, she waited for Paulie's number to be done. Maybe his number would tell him to start acting like a sixteen years old?



The Ravenclaw twirled the quill in her hand absently. "Well. I don't think my day number's exciting." She sighed and leaned back in her seat, "I can't see my family or home before Christmas. And... I don't think by 'work' they mean study." She could always pretend they did, though. Yeah. She was probably going to do that.

Smiling at the other Puff's enthusiasm, Amelia hoped that it would get her to wake up a little. "Don't worry about it," she said shrugging off Ness's admission that she wasn't the best with this class. "I'm good with it, and besides you are right about having to do the Personal Year Number first." She nodded and then started working on her Personal Year Number:

"I got a number 8 for my Personal Year Number," She told her friend. "So now that we have our Personal Year Numbers, it's time to do the Personal Month one." She nodded now as she turned to a new page on her Arithmancy notebook.

She started working on her calculation now:

Silvia opened her book and looked at the personal year chapter. It seemed simple enough.



Well, she did like her alone time, though she was pretty sure she did not have any legal papers to deal with, and she wasn't sure what she should be cleansing herself of.

She checked her calculations to make sure they were correct. So far Arithmancy seemed pretty easy; it was nothing like some muggle maths.

Alyssa turned to see whether was anyone who still didn't have a partner. At the rate she was going, she most likely would be stuck working on her own for the rest of the class.

It's a little lame..cause im pretty tired >_<
 

This was going to be as fun as Arithmancy could get, but that was only because Mia was so awesome. Ness smiled at her older friend and then looked back at her work.

Wait...Mia got eight too? Ness sort of giggled at that, so the two had things in common after all. "I got eight too, and it said something about us discovering our power and becoming leaders and so on." She didn't feel like rereading the whole thing, so she just said the begining part, which was what she liked about what it had said the most.

Now next thing to work on, her Personal Month numberTo be honest all of this stuff was begining to become interesting especially since she was finally understanding everything, it was good that Mia was there and oddly so she actually didn't have much trouble with the calculations, they were rather easy, even easier than the ones before.

"I got number nine for my personal month number...and you?" she asked with a small little grin.

Taking out more parchment, she got back to work. It was the last calculation she had to do and then she would be done. It wasn't too hard now.

And now she got number nine again..she put her lips into a pout as she thought about her numbers and then waited for Mia to finish.

Asher had some terrible calculating his numbers. He still wasn't even sure if he had done them right. Or maybe he did. That wasn't likely considering he only had his birthday and the Current year written down.

His sister Caroline was always good at Arithmancy. Asher noticed a older girl who seemed to have things together in this class. "Excuse me. Can you help me. I'm pretty much confused. My sister Caroline is good at this. Me not so much. I'm Asher By the way." He grinned slightly though he was nervous.

Alyssa brighened up when she head a voice ask her whether she could help him with his calculations. "Hi Asher, it's nice to meet you. My name is Alyssa and I would be more than happy to work with you. Believe me. You are doing me the favor." Alysssa smiled at him, scooting over to make room for him at her desk.

"What have you got so far? Have you started working on the Personal Year Number? You do that by doing this.

Personal Year Number = month of birth + day of birth + current calendar year

So what is the month and day of your birth? The current calendar year is October 17, 2076."

WHOA.

That was weird. Amelia giggled at the fact that they both had the same Personal Year Number; that was totally weird. And awesome. They'd have the same answers for their calculations now. :33

Amelia nodded at the summary Ness gave for their Personal Year Number. She basically got the point of it down correct, and Amelia was feeling too tired right now to really want to elaborate on anything. She had been up late last night studying for her NEWTs again. She was going to die before the Term was even finished at the rate she was going at; forget actually being able to write the stupid things. D:

"I got the same Personal Month Number," she said now even though she figured that it could go without saying. :33 Now she just needed to calculate her Personal Day Number, and that part of the class work would be finished.

She turned to a new page in her notebook now:

So he wasn't the only one. "I wonder if that applies to everyone, or if it just happened to work in our two cases." Either way, he was going to move on to Personal Month with Treyen.



"I got eight. And look what it means! Just in time for Quidditch to start, eh? That's pretty close, actually." Seriously, scary accuracy.

His amazement still fresh, he focused on the Personal Day Number. He was in the process of flipping to the correct chapter when Treyen beat him there and started reading.

"...which is the 17th, I believe." He glanced at the board. "Yup, October 17. So I would do 8 plus a reduction of 17..." He resumed scribbling furiously.



He scanned the page for the meaning. "A 7 Personal Day Number is a day to rest and reevaluate, a time for quiet solitude, and to meditate." And how did that relate to seizing control and taking charge of life? "Well, at least the Month one was pretty accurate. Maybe I'm supposed to go swim in the Prefect Bath, eh?" he finished, giving Treyen a wink. That bath was too elaborate to be considered a bath.

Asher smiled in relief. Most other students would not have wanted to help him much less be his partner. "It's nice to meet you too." He said with a nod.

Oh What did he have so far? Well...... He looked down his parchment.



He showed Alyssa his parchment paper. He looked at it once more. He wasn't sure if it was done right or what do to next.

Sophie smiled when Professor Hadley said her work was right. Yay math! She didn't bother checking what those number meant, she was happy just by getting the numbers right.

Instructions... more math! Mooore!!! Hooraaaay! Sophie didn't even look for a partner, she just pulled her book closer and faced her parchment again and started calculating.



Sophie stared at her parchment. So many small numbers! Was that even right?? She frowned and raised her hand. "Professor, is this it? Why do I only get small numbers??"

Okay now we're going to calculate your Personal Month Number. To get that you do this:

Personal Year Number + reduced calendar month number = Personal Month Number

So since your personal year number is 7 add that to the reduced calendar month number and you will get your personal month number. I'm sure you won't have problems doing that. If you have any problems with doing that just ask me" Alyssa encouraged the younger boy. She knew that Asher wouldn't be needing her help at the rate he was going.

Oakey starred at what his quill had written on his parchment. It had stopped because he had stopped thinking, he was unsure what to do from here. Confused he looked over to Alyssa who seemed to be helping someone else. Tapping her on the shoulder he asked It's looks like you know what you're doing, could you perhaps point me in the right direction?

That was easy; although Silvia wasn't quite sure how to interpret it. She was too young to worry about financial matters and she didn't have any essays she was procrastinating on. Maybe it was telling her not to be shy and to do something more than just study and go to class? Oh well, moving on...


Now this was easy enough to interpret. Today it seemed was a good day to take a break from studying, though that seemed to contradict her personal month number. Maybe she would spend some time outside later and enjoy the nice weather while it lasted.

Alyssa turned when she heard a familiar voice ask her whether he could help him too. "Hi Oakey. Sure pull up a seat. I don't think Asher will mind, will you Asher?" Alyssa asked Asher as she scooted over to make more room for Oakey.

"Okay let's check your calculations, Oakey. Again, remember I'm no expert. So here's hoping that I'm leading you guys down the right path." Alyssa smiled at Oakey before pulling over his work to review it.

"To calculate the Personal Year Number, we take the month of birth + day of birth + current calendar year

To calculate the Personal Year Number we take the Personal Year Number + reduced calendar month number = Personal Month Number

and to calculate Your Personal Day Number we add the number of the calendar day to the number of your Personal Month.

Okay so let's see, first work with your Personal Year Number, which is April 13 and the current calendar year is October 17, 2076

So add this up:
4 + 13+ 10 +17 + 2+0+7+6 or
4 +1+3 + 1+0 + 1+7 + 2+0+7+6
Remember if you have double digits you need to reduce them to a single number. Try working on this and I'll check it once you're done. Is that okay with you?" Alyssa would have done the calculations for him, but she didn't think Professor Hadley would approve of it. Helping was okay.

Glenn looked over Beezus' work, "No, I think that's correct," She grinned, "If I'm wrong, I'll buy you a Butterbeer next time we have a Hogsmeade weekend."

"SIX (6): This is the year for elderly parents, in which you'll be needed by your family more this year than any other year. It is also a year that requires you to balance your domestic life with your work life, as romantic relationships move to the forefront and you'll be shown many opportunities to get your work life in balance. It is time for you to pay attention to your family responsibilities, nurture and seve thos you care about. Balance your needs with the needs of others, while being generous and sympathetic." Glenn read out aloud, "Ooh, romantic relationships" Glenn cooed quite childishly, then she frowned, "The bit about being needed by your family doesn't sound too good though."

"Should we move onto the Personal Month Numbers then?" Glenn flicked over the page of her textbook and bit her lip, "It seems the same concept, except you add your Personal Year Number to the current month number and hey presto!" Glenn read from the top of the page, "The Personal Month Number represents that month's particular influence within the greater Personal Year vibration. In terms of emphasis, the Personal Year is the most significant number, but the Personal Month Numbers have value too. Each and every Personal Month Number has its own special energy, which infuses that month of the year with its unique opportunities and potential." Glenn read, "So we could work this out for every month?"

Glenn dipped her quill into Beezus' ink and started her calculation.

Glenn read over the definition of her Personal Month Number, "I guess that's talking about Homework then," She sighed and looked over to see how Beezus was doing with her work.


Glenn looked over to see Sophie calling for the Professor, "I don't think it matters Sophie," Glenn said, "The personal day and month numbers will change anyway." She smiled and read in her own textbook one of Sophie's numbers definitions, "It seems like all of yours point to being focused on your self," She said, "You've got something on bravery in there too, I bet that's referring to capture the flag." She winked and turned back to her own work.

Ella looked down at her parchment and realized that two of her calculations were wrong because she had misread where it said to use reduced calendar month number when determining her personal month number. She raised her hand. "Professor, I already found a few mistakes! I'll recalculate and then maybe you could check them?" Then she got to work.

Then, Ella moved on to fix her personal day number.

When she finished, she rechecked her work, worried she had messed it up again. Raising her hand again, she asked the professor to check her work. "Professor, I think this is right now. Do you mind checking when you have a second?"

Lily's jaw dropped again. She had no clue what to do or how to do it so she just started by opening her book. Ok, I think I might be able to do this. Lily thought to herself as she got busy.


Lily put her quill down and stared at her paper and then at her book and then back to her paper. She just wasn't sure if she had done it right. Look at the book, look at the paper. It was frustrating Lily since she had no idea whether it was correct.

Oakey tried to get what Alyssa had just said. He understood some of it, Well, did you get any of it? He looked at his quill which was floating waiting for anything to scribe. It dipped itself into his ink and started writing on his parchment.



He looked as his quill swiped the last bit of ink onto his parchment. I think we need parenthesis he told his Self-Writing Quill. The quill lifted itself up dipped into the ink and swiped towards Oakey. spraying him with ink. He blinked for a moment then looked as the quill layed itself back into his bag. Not understanding what had just happened with his magical quill he took a regular one out of his bag and wrote the rest of it out.


Hmm it seems that it was Five. looking at Alyssa he had a streak of black ink going from one check, over his nose, to the other check. I got Five, let me look up the definition to that. Diving his head into the text he found what he was looking for and quickly wrote out the definition.



Wow, that's kind of spot on as he finished writing. Thanks for the help Alyssa. He smiled, we should move on to the other two.

Oh, really?? It was only when Sophie heard Glenn's words that she decided to see what those numbers meant. She looked down at her book and read.



Well, it sort of made sense... in a way! Sophie smirked and looked around to watch the others.

"You don't?" she laughed, thinking a bit more about the numbers and what they could possibly imply. "It wasn't all THAT long ago." Yeah, she stuck her tongue out, but only a little. Kurumi could remember seven years old almost as if it were yesterday. That had been when...well...when the first person she had been able to call her friend had abandoned her.
"I didn't think you were going to copy," she replied, shaking her head. That would only produce extremely inaccurate results for him anyway. She rolled her eyes a bit when August teased her to go first. Cheeky little brother lion she had adopted here, very very cheeky. She should poke him in the cheek he was so cheeky. But she refrained and instead lifted her hand up from her parchment.

"If I did everything right," which she was pretty sure she had, "then today is a 5, which means it is a day to make a change, network, and promote." Which meant...she needed to be more social? Rally the lions for some sort of event in the common room? Go to the kitchens and hold a baking class? Actually try to find a sponsor for a baking club she was thinking about holding? All of the above?

"You did it right the first time round, Oakey. Are you sure you need help here?" Alyssa teased him before continuing. "Now let's calculate the Personal Month Number where you take your Personal Year Number and add that to your reduced calendar month number.

Then once you have that number, you can calculate your Personal Day number by Your Personal Day Number by adding the number of the calendar day to the number of your Personal Month.
