As you enter the classroom, the first thing that you will notice is that this is no ordinary classroom. There are no desks, nor are there chairs but soft springy grass and a very large tree in the centre of the room.
In the back corner of the room is a small water fountain. The gentle sounds of trickling water has a very calming feel, but please make sure you go to the loo before coming to class. Also you will notice dotted around the room largestonestructures with strange looking inscriptions carved into them.
The room is light and airy thanks to the drapes being opened allowing sunlight to filter through the windows and a gentle breeze is flowing through one of the opened windows.
Professor Jenkins is seated on the grass with his back against the trunk of the tree, casually flipping through a magazine. He lazily flicks his wand at the door and it springs open allowing the students to file in.
“Come in and find yourselves a spot on the grass and park your bums.” he said with a small chuckle. Oliver pointed to a pile of stickers a couple of feet from his right. “Could you also please take a sticker and write your name and house on it and stick it onto your robes.” That would make life easier for him.
ooc: Class won’t be starting for approximately twelve hours. Please just post your charrie arriving and following the Professor's instructions. Also please keep chatting to a minimum or points will be lost
CLASS HAS STARTED!! Please do not announce your late arrival. Pretend your character has been here the whole time.
Nate raised his hand and said "Professor one of the runes is kenaz." Nate said with alot of pride and joy. Well he didn't say it with to much that it could show.

Text Cut: textbook
Gebo
Description:
The Rune of Gebo represents the act of "giving" in all it's forms. The ancient Norse tale of "Brunhild" is a good one to illustrate the meaning of this rune: According to legend, the hero Sigurd fought and killed a mighty dragon and took a ring from its hoard. Venturing onwards, he passed through a magical circle of fire where he found a sleeping warrior wearing shining armor. He cut through the armor and revealed Brunhild, a beautiful Valkyrie (an angelic warrior woman of Valhalla) who had been kept there by Odin until a mortal man was brave enough to rescue her. Sigurd then gave her the ring and pledged his unending love to her.
Gebo represents a unification of two forces for the betterment of both parties. Whether this is in a business deal or a romantic arrangement is of no consequence -- the result and meaning are the same. Positive emotions, acts of selflessness and the giving of gifts are all referenced here.
It should be noted that the legend of Brunhild also carries a somewhat sinister message: As legend has it -- the ring Sigurd gave to Brunhild had been cursed by the wicked god Loki. The meaning here is that while intentions may be noble and emotions may be true -- the hand of fate must be respected: It is always present in all things.
How to Interpret "Gebo"
A gift will be given, or possibly a marriage proposal or an opportunity to put forward such a proposal is on its way. A generous, bountiful person who wishes to enrich one's life, romantically or materially.
A divine gift, the gift of life or of balance. It is important that all parties remain equitable when the gift is given, or that balance which is so important to relationships may be endangered.
On another level, the rune of Gebo may represent sexual union. Depending on the other runes that it appears with, it may mean a fleeting encounter; particularly if paired with Uruz. This will be a very intense encounter and one that can be grown into something more if desired.
Inverted Meaning::
Gebo cannot be inverted.
So after reading the section about the rune she had mentioned to the class, Lily tried to make an answer in her own words. Raising her hand, Lily replied to the professor. "Gebo means a gift from one person to another, any sort of gift." Looking back down at her notes, she copied down all of the different runes in the one section while waiting for more answers.
Taylor raised her hand, "Doesn't Raidho mean wagon or chariot, professer?" She wasn't compeletely sure but she thought that is what it meant..... or she could of gotton them mixed up.... who knows.

Amelia really needed her textbook now. This class made her brain hurt, and she'd seriously feel really dumb if she didn't have her book on her. Actually, she felt stupid regardless.
She skimmed the book's pages now.
"Well, I think Wunjo means some spiritual ideal that can't be maintained in the actual world we live in. So basically what we experience now is nothing in comparison to what we can experience in another world?" She blinked now, not really sure of her answer. .
Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.
Oakey flipped through his text book to one of the two Runes that the Professor said they had missed.
SPOILER!!: Perthro
Description:
This cup shape literally means a vessel -- possibly for casting lots. This rune is one of the more controversial among runic scholars, as the "P" sound at the start does not actually appear anywhere else in early Germanic languages. It is commonly thought that the rune's name, which is now lost to antiquity, was altered over the centuries with the development of more modern alphabets.
Perthro represents a vessel, something to be filled and drunk from. There is also significant evidence that the cup referenced by Perthro is a 'dice-cup', of the kind commonly used in games of chance and fate.
How to Interpret "Perthro"
The cup of Perthro represents fertility, mystery, and all things hidden. The hand of fate, through Karma or divine predestination, is showing itself strongly in one's life. While fate is often complex and impossible to understand, this rune indicates a powerful order and purpose behind seemingly random events. Fate is both powerful and unknowable -- a force which we all must ultimately respect and give way to.
Intense forces of change that work behind the scenes are acting on the individual at this time. While these forces may be seen as positive or negative, the appearance of Perthro most commonly suggests positive forces -- unless of course it appears in a spread with a host of negative runes.
It should be noted that while we frequently view change as either "good" or "bad" -- Perthro reminds us that such black-and-white interpretation may represent an oversimplification of fate. The change referenced by Perthro carries with it an infinite amount of complexity and subtlety. To attempt to categorize change in simplistic terms of "positive" or "negative", is to attempt to understand fate itself: something no mortal can do. When analyzing the meaning of Perthro, one should take care to remember that fate exists at a level that we can never truly know until such time that it is upon us. What seems true may prove false, and vice versa. Only fate can tell.
Other possible literal meanings of Perthro in a reading are the act of drinking or games of chance.
Inverted Meaning::
There may be psychological issues present which the individual may need to explore further. This may not represent a readiness to explore hidden mysteries further, but a burning desire that is not accompanied by the wisdom of experience. Tread carefully, missteps are costly here.
Oakey read it over a few times then finally put his hand up. Professor, Perthro I believe means to leave fate up to chance. the book describes it as a dice cup and dice are commonly used in gambling He paused I think it also means that our fates are unchanging and we'll never truly know ours until it happens. wow this rune had a deep meaning. Oakey wished he chose an easier one to describe.
Staring at the girl again in a rather odd way having a why did you do that look she realised it was a girl she had met one time and seem uncontrolled a bit. Now focusing more on the professor's question she scribbled some down in her note book. Professor, is it ehwaz or yewaz? Because is it meaning a type of animal?" she said confused with the name and meaning.
Louisa furrowed her eyebrows slightly. The meaning? Well, she knew ehwaz rune the most. It had something to do with... err... raising her hand slowly, she spoke, "I think Ehwaz rune, sir, means partnership." Or.. the girl paused, trying to remember rather than cheating opening her textbook and checking it out. "The word ehwaz means horse, though. I think."

He then listened as the professor asked them for the meaning of runes.. He then put up his hand "The meaning of Ansuz is like an ancestral god.. It also means Power of words and naming. Blessings and taking of advice.. Now...what did they mean? Vashti decided to stick with the rune she'd given - Hagalaz - but it took her another few moments to remember what it meant. The meanings were just as hard to remember as the name of the rune itself sometimes - at least for most of them - but eventually she recalled at least some of what the rune meant. As she raised her hand, she said, "I believe the rune Hagalaz means 'hail,' or more generally, the destructive and uncontrollable forces of nature, particularly the weather."

Hmm...another concept Sierra had worked on in the earlier Ancient Runes classes. Good. Ancient Runes was confusing enough without having to worry about completely new material. Now this she could do, this whole 'reviewing concepts already learned'.
With a confident look on her face, she raised her hand. "Ansuz," she said, which was the rune she'd just named, "means knowledge and wisdom. I think it also stands for communication by mouth." So, in that case, someone could say something completely idiotic and still be working under Ansuz? Hmm. She didn't know.
Nate raised his hand and said "Uruz means raw physical power." Nate was slightly guessing slightly not. He wasn't sure if it was physical or mental power. Hopefully he would be right.

Deciding to just keep with the rune she had mentioned previously, Kurumi first glanced down at her text to make sure she wasn't crossing her rune wires with each other and then raised her hand.
"Berkanan literally means birch or birch twig, but it's....runic meaning is growth and fertility." Among some other things, but those were the big two.

Glenn thought back to what had been written in her Ancient Runes textbook. She wasn't going to open it right now, she was just trying to remember.
"Wunjo means a journey and an eventual victory, right?" Glenn asked, from what she had read that is what she had made out, she wasn't sure if that was correct though.

Vickers continued to read up on the Algiz rune, which covered a lot of things, but the Professor was probably after the essentials. He raised his hand again and replied "The essential meaning of Algiz is protection, which covers both the defensive as well as offensive forms. The rune's shape has been likened to the Norse God Heimdal who has both his arms outstretched with one hand bearing his sword and the other his horn. "

Ira noted down everything that was discussed and then wriotten on blackboard
Then when asked a question, Ira raised her hand up and answered, "Ansuz means Authority figure.... or god, a leader, mind and body balance, justice... etc" Ira knew only this much.
Deciding to stick with the rune he had volunteered in the previous question, Kennedy raised his hand in order to explain its meaning. "Laguz means water or lake," it did sound like the Spanish word for lake. "But its deeper meaning is having success in travel, but with a chance of losing something...or someone." He didn't like it so much right now.
Especially with the letter he had received earlier that day.
Shaking his head, Oliver turned away from he girl and addressed the rest of the class. "Very good. The Elder Futhark is a runic alphabet. Made up of twenty four runes. Which in today's talk would mean twenty four letters." He paused momentarily. "Runes were often inscribed into stone, metal and wood. Clay is also used but not until later times. The most famous runic inscription is found on the Kylver Stone, in Gotland Sweden. It is famous because this the only stone structure to have the entire Elder Futhark inscribed into it. Others, like these ones." He gestured to the stone structures in the room. "Are less complete but as you can see they show continuity in the order of the runes. These are only replicas of the originals." Maybe one day he could show them the originals."So as we can see, one purpose of the runes was to write messages."
"Okay, we have established that there are twenty four runes to the Elder Futhark, I would like you to tell me what they are. Just name me one rune person please."
Giving his wand a flick towards the front of the room, words and symbols appeared on the board.
"The other two runes that got missed are 'Nauthiz' and 'Perthro.' So there are your twenty four runes that make the Elder Futhark. Now this is where we will move on from writing messages with the runes to the actual symbols and what they mean." He liked this part.
"So tell me the meanings of the runes. Again just one rune per person please so that everyone has the opportunity to answer."
Zack looked up at the board from the professor to see what had appeared on the board. Hmm....now that is some more work on the paper he said and noted all the runes from the board on his parchment. As he finished writing he heard the professor call out another question. Meanings of the runes? hmm....i do know one. That would be easy! he though and raised his hand "Professor, one of the runes is Dagaz and its translation is Day meaning several parts of the day like Day, Daylight, Dawn, Breakthrough, Radical change." he said and brought his hand down. LOL! That was so easy....hehe....
